I’m still thinking about how Annatar seems ready to rip off people’s arms straight from the socket every time they have the audacity to touch him. He is SEETHING at the disrespect, like what do you mean you are touching a maia?
It gets funnier if you play the line from Galadriel in S1E2 on the raft in your mind (when one of the humans try to see her ear): “Remove your hand from me, sir.”

Okay I'll talk about my "standard Gil-Galads" in another post but I also have one very niche AU Gil-Galad I've been meaning to write something about: Fin(arfin)-Galad. Because, think about it. The timeline doesn't exactly work, but Finarfin comes with the host of Aman and decides to stay in Middle-Earth afterwards. And there's so much there.
Finarfin finally following the footsteps of his family, late and last, as always.
Seeing Beleriand in ruins, the wreckage and graves of four of his children, and still decides to stay. And no one understands why.
Is it because he feels responsible for what's left of the Noldor? Does he feel shame for leaving his children alone to face the darkness? Is there nothing in Valinor for him after the devastation of Alqualonde? Does he have some of the Noldor ambition and fire in him after all?
Finarfin was once easy to read, but he isn't anymore. He takes his feelings and reasons both to his grave.
He takes a new name, and speaks so little of his past that over time, most forget who he is, and begin to assume he must be Orodreth's son, or something like that.
Sometime in the Second Age, Fingolfin is released from Mandos, and Finarfin, who has always been exactly where Fingolfin thought he was, is nowhere to be seen.
The Noldor of the First Age remember Finarfin as the prince who stayed behind, but he ends up becoming the longest-reigning and most successful Noldor King in Middle-Earth.
He builds his own realm in Lindon, he gets to see his daughter married and with a child of her own, the remnants of his brothers' lines survive in Elrond and Celebrimbor.
He makes Elrond his heir, though he knows Elrond will never take the crown. There's an understanding between them– king and herald, both doomed to live half in the visions of foresight they have.
Is he happy there? Does he know?
And in the end he dies recklessly, in fire, charging into a hand-to-hand fight with a mad god.
Just like his brothers.
(Or his son)

Elrond: I think I might have just killed Gil-Galad...
Galadriel: What? Oh, good for you I guess.
Elrond: You're not mad?
Galadriel: Gil-Galad is fine, Elrond. This is the tenth time you've almost killed him.
Elrond: Um... It is?

(green // blue means two main options, red means i need to think about it more)
The main details I'm figuring out right now are
does Celebrimbor still die at Eregion - I don't think he's getting captured/tortured, but he could still die in the battle. On the other hand, he could probably survive by using Narya & Lomion using Nenya, but that would definitely have repercussions further down the line
how does Idril's deal work - I'm currently thinking of Idril exchanging the location of Gondolin for her family's guaranteed safety, because it seems in character for Reverse Idril? But on the other hand, even if I limit it to immediate family at the time of the oath (tuor, turgon, earendil) then idk where turgon dies? Maybe Maglor can kill him but that seems kind of random
where and how does Turgon die
how does Prince Elrond's character even work
how does Numenor still fall when factoring in Prince Elrond - I'm thinking that the morgoth death cult gained enough traction during the time sauron was there that even after Elrond kicks him out, the cult still sticks around and reemerges later? The Fall still happens, but they never go to attack valinor and there's a good deal more Faithful (maybe 40-60%?)
#silm#silmarillion#not art#reverse gondolin au#basically elrond is giving me a Lot of trouble here#i tacked an extra 30 years onto the FA (so the SA dates are mostly shifted up by 30 years to balance it out; hence elros being king in SA 2#this means e&e were adults during the Fall of Gondolin and the war of wrath and all#so instead of 'kind as summer' elrond of the last homely house in rivendell#we have gondolithrim veteran/dragonslayer Prince Elrond of Imladris Stronghold#and later the Bastion of the Faithful of Numenor#ironically enough he turned out way more feanorian when not raised by feanorians#instead of sirion e&e's defining Childhood Trauma was the gondolin kinslaying#in which mae and aredhel duel to the death while screaming at each other about fingon's fate and the Oath#and argon and elenwes deaths on the helcaraxe#also elwing fully died trying to protect them in this one#and then e&e were like 20something and sons/grandsons of two Lords durign the FoG so obviously they ended up fighting there too#and then again at the war of wrath#and by the mid SA elrond has already lived through so many wars he's running rather low on hope#so Prince Elrond still tries to be kind but is also substantially more willing to threaten people if need be#after eregion he founds imladris as a haven but also an impenetrable fortress#he saw the fall of gondolin and he knows that rivendell couldn't last forever#but he believes he can make it last long enough to defeat sauron first#or at least push him back so that the refugees of eregion can rebuild and survive#meanwhile celebrimbor takes up the last homely house role#but yeah Prince Elrond is pretty interesting#he intervenes more with numenor bc hes watching them self destruct and knows (bc foresight) exactly what would happen#so he tries (eventually in vain) to prevent it by disowning and exiling ar pharazon#and later exiling sauron around the time of the burning of nimloth#but it's too late and the morgoth cult already gained enough traction#on the other hand there's a lot more Faithful led by tar-miriel

do you think the galadriel caught a whiff of Sauron's naturally bad smell when he was Halbrand and assumed it was a human thing?

So I don’t think Rings of Power will do that theory about Celeborn actually being dead and getting sent back Glorfindel-style, BUT: if they did, that sounds like it could be a pretty horrific thing from his POV?
The horror of being returned to a world you don’t recognise, prince of a kingdom that no longer exists. Every soldier you see reminds you of those you couldn’t save; every bright banner recalls those of yours you saw trampled into mud.
You have no scars from the orc-blade that once struck you down. Your skin is untouched by the dragon-fire that killed you. You sit alone for long, long hours, staring at your unmarked body, wondering why, wondering if your death is something you’re meant to make amends for.
Galadriel backs away from you, calls you a deceit of Sauron’s sent to torment her. You don’t really have any way to convince her she’s wrong and part of you starts to think, maybe she isn’t. Maybe you wouldn’t even know.

I don't know how much we know about Osanwë but I'm pretty sure that it can be used to convey memories as much as thoughts. So here's a headcanon:
In the first age, elves were looking for a way to honor the dead and make sure that they were never forgotten. So it became a tradition that, if someone saw an elf die, they would share that memory with the dead elf's family so that he would always be remembered.
Those memories would also be "given along" the generations and parents would share the memories of the last moments of their relatives with their children as soon as they thought them old enough to deal with, you know, seeing someone die.
This results in Elrond remembering the death of almost every member of the house of Finwë even if most of them died years before he was born. The only people he doesn't remember dying are Maedhros, Maglor, Celebrimbor, Fingolfin and Finwë himself because they died all alone.

Do you have any headcanons for Mairon and Melkor (separate) accidentally killing their s/o, bonus if they are human and they are just gone for eternity.
I just need some angst to function

ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ ·⊰ ꒰❀꒱ 𝒎𝒂𝒊𝒓𝒐𝒏.
ʚ He never thought that his efforts to finish what his master, the former dark lord, had started would cost him his very heart. Perhaps he would have rathered that. His heart being ripped from his chest rather than the sight of your pupils dissipating and your eyes dulling, the scream that wrenched from your lungs and the way your body collapsed to the stone floor
ʚ Mairon was well aware that the power required to form the one ring would be immense and he was willing to sacrifice everything to ensure its creation. What he didn’t know was the one ring would not only drain him of his power — but yours as well. And unfortunately, you were not as powerful of a maia as he was.
ʚ Whilst he forged the final touches and encrypted those cursed phrases along its underside, he ignored your little peeps and soft calls of his name. When you told him that you had an easy feeling. In fact, he went as far as to tell you that you were simply overreacting
ʚ But it was only when he finally uttered the spell that would pour his power out into the ring that he realised the horrifying truth — your strength, the little power that remained within you would be snatched up as well. Despite his weakened state and trembling knees he tries to push himself to you, only just managing to get his arms around you when your legs had given out
ʚ Mairon was frantic, clinging to your quickly disappearing warmth as he watched the life drain from your eyes. He was desperate, muttering a horrified ‘no’ over and over again as he watched your life be taken by that damned ring. Even when you stared up at him with such soulless eyes, he could not bring himself to accept what he had done
ʚ “Y/N, no, please — please.’’
ʚ Had he truly lost you too? The last being that he had any sort of connection to? The last person who he felt anything for?
ʚ Mairon could do nothing but hunch over your form that day with a harrowing cry that tore through each and every crevice of Orodruin. He cradled you in his arms for hours, lips against your hair and promising that he would ensure your death was not in vain. Perhaps that’s what further drove him to accomplish his goal
ʚ It was a fit of rage. One he couldn’t quite overcome. But when he finally pulled himself from the storm of rage that clouded his eyes and he now witnessed a familiar crimson on his palms — his claws. Not to mention the look of utter horror on your face before you fell into him, a hole torn through your clothing just as one had been ripped through your very chest. He knew that there was no going back
ʚ Melkor always considered himself to be slow to anger. While he does seem to have quite the temper, the majority of the time it is quite the act. He pretends to exude anger so that he frightens those before him. But to genuinely drive the dark lord to anger is a fool’s ploy. Nor has he ever genuinely been angry at you. Perhaps irritated or possessive, but never rageful towards you. And even the incident of your death was not brought on due to the anger he held for you
ʚ It was during the war of wrath, towards the end of it. Melkor was well aware that his army outside the iron barriers of Angband was quickly depleting, that his defeat was nigh. What wasn’t helping his already gruelling mood was your worry. Of course, you were anxious. Should the Valinor’s Host succeed you knew that your lover would be dragged off and flung into the void. There would be no more trials, no more appeals, he would be gone forever. Which is the very reason you attempted to coax him into admitting defeat, in hopes that the valar would take mercy on him should he show remorse for his actions
ʚ It seems that it was all it took for him to lose it and before you knew it a cry tore from your throat, just as his clawed hand tore through your chest and impaled your heart. You looked up to see the storm in his eyes and the look of hatred on his face. You couldn’t even process what it was that he shouted at you, only that you would die here. With not so much as a gentle embrace but rather a look of utter hostility
ʚ When Melkor eventually came to, he foolishly ripped his hand back out in shock — causing blood to gush from your wound further as you fell forward onto him. He was in shock, to say the least, as he held you. The music stopped, the dissonant tune that was associated with his presence. Everything went silent, deafening. He could say no words. He could shed no tears. Instead, he merely felt your warmth fade and listen to the beat of your wounded heart come to a standstill
ʚ When the host tore through Angband, all they found was Melkor on his throne. Without his crown, without the prideful stature, he wore like a medal. All they found was a broken vala clinging onto the lifeless body of his beloved.
