forever hilarious to me that tennis is promoted as this prestigious highbrow big-brain sport when most tennis fans these days are like. yeah this is my favorite player. yeah i don't know why they're like that. yes they are stupid. no i will not choose somebody else.

#wta tennis #atp tennis #i feel like the era of...shall we say 'federer-esque' players is waning #which i think can in part be related to the loss of the one-handed-backhand #as the sport moves more toward a necessity for fitness and athleticism players do not put as much emphasis on 'art'#which imo is fine! i think the 'art' of tennis is too protected in some ways. which i maybe will expand on later.#but i think it's too much for the tags of a (mostly) silly post #but yeah you can hear a lot of commentators touch on it #i know nadal even said something abt it recently(ish)#but i think as tennis is gradually less associated with this abstract 'image' (e.g. the obsession with federer's 'grace' and 'class')#players are coming in thinking 'this is a physical battle and i am going to win' and very much leaning into the *competition*#which not to say that they're ignoring/denying the mental aspects at all because i actually do think many players are very strategic/aware #and in truth i think many tennis players ARE actually very smart #but i also think it's less apparent because more and more players are able to just hit the shit out of the ball and call it a day #which leaves you with the occasional shot/point/game/set/match etc where it seems like they don't know what the fuck they're doing #but you think about most sports which evolve in phases #it's very normal for certain player profiles to become more or less popular as the landscape of the sport changes #or as new techniques/strategies are developed #or as new communities/populations become interested!#extreme example but think of like. high jump's fosbury flop. that was one guy!#one guy who changed the entire fucking sport! so it makes perfect sense that tennis is continuing to evolve #given how many unique players have come and gone #and how much the sport is changing externally as well as internally #anyways. this got out of hand but i love sports and i love tennis and i love my brainless players.#this whole post was inspired by rewatching sabalenka v boulter and aryna completely missed an overhead by like five feet. lol #love her <3

“This is what I came up with when I wanted to do some form of 2P play in this work. At that time, I was just creating Reala, and we decided if he should have the same abilities as NiGHTS, we should try having the two of them play against each other. Right now, this is probably the only game in the world where you use two 3D Controllers. It might be a good idea to try using this mode instead of rock-paper-scissors. In reality, we spent most of our time working on the main story, so it’s not that deep, but I think the strategies that are used under limited conditions make it interesting. Spinning around in one spot is strong, but if you do that, you’ll get hit by a dash. If you can move from your opponent’s sight once you think you’re being targeted, or if you can read what strategies your opponent will use, you should be able to become much stronger. It isn’t an airplane, but has the same feel as a dogfight.”

I’m watching a documentary my friend recommended to me called the law in these parts, which is about the history of israeli military law in palestine, and like. jesus christ they were literally just doing lebensraum. the same low density suburban development that plagues north america, the same plan of fascist expansion eastward done by nazi germany was done in palestine, with the justification that these residential settlements built for settler civilians were actually military outposts and therefore legal under international law. it’s literally just lebensraum

#I wonder about the context of the justification as like a strategic exception to international law #like is this an essential strategy of fascism (/colonialism) or rather one we see emerge through the context of history #the nazis obviously did this prior to international law but those laws were written in response to nazi strategies iirc #I’ve seen people make the connection that suburban development in settler colonial states in general is a fascist practice #and like I was inclined to agree but didn’t fully get the scope of the argument #but this is making it click into place for me #again premised on the foundational argument that fascism and colonialism are synonymous processes that cannot be separated from one another #which is the strongest definition of fascism I’ve encountered so far in all of my readings

Example:

#paper mario the thousand year door #video #Koops was the MVP for Prince Mush especially #In addition to Shell Shield I could also use his Power Shell to get rid of Mush's clones when he cloned himself #But the partner was cooked if he targeted them while powered up #I ended up just using the partners as meat shields lol (except for Koops)#It's more important that Mario stays alive #I appealed in the video because I tried to hit him with Supernova when I got his guard down for 15 points of damage each time #And I had to spend the other turns building up star power #There's probably a more normal strategy for this fight but this is what I slapped together in the moment #I should have brought some Power Punches or something 😅#But oh well it worked #I beat him first time 😎 It did get a little hairy near the end though haha #And I did use the Simplifier badge #I suck at superguards okay he would’ve beat my ass if I didn’t use that badge #Whacka was tough too but I got lucky getting a level up right before him #These two new fights were very fun and unique #And it makes me very happy that the current Paper Mario developers can make great fights in the TTYD battle system :D #Please keep cooking 🙏

There’s this impression that gamers are these gatekeepy, “git gud you fucking casual” nerdbullies but in all my years of playing video games I have met very few gamers like that (if a gamer is an asshole, it’s because they’re an asshole, not because they’re a gamer). In general, if I’m stuck in a game and reach out, people will respond with legit excitement that they can show me how to do something. The exception to this is Final Fantasy Tactics fans who, when someone comes into the room sobbing that they were killed by Chocobos/Dorter/Wiegraf/Time Mages/Wiegraf/Chocobos/Wiegraf, just sort of pat the person on the shoulder and go “I know, buddy. I know. It doesn’t get any better. I’m sorry.”
