Thanks to @penguinteen for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review
✩💰💎Review:
Lewis’ debut novel is a thrilling must-read that is entertaining to no end!
“Thieves’ Gambit” follows 17-year-old Rossalyn Quest, a master thief  who plans to run away from her notorious family to leave behind her life of crime. Things take an unexpected turn, however, when her last job goes sideways, leaving her mother’s life in the balance. In a desperate bid to save her, Ross enters the Thieves’ Gambit, a legendary, yet dangerous competition in which the world’s top teen thieves go head to head for the ultimate prize—a granted wish for anything in the world.
There are no dull moments in this book! Lewis’ high stakes, fast-paced storyline made it impossible for me to put it down. I was endlessly entertained and engaged by the series of heists Ross had to complete in the tournament, the cinematic feel of Lewis’ writing, and the backstabbing, lying, and cheating amongst competitors amidst the chaos.
As much as I loved the novel’s plot, I loved Rossalyn Quest as a protagonist even more! Caught between her dream of a normal life and staying loyal to her family of thieves, Ross’ internal conflict is complex and relatable. Her fierce love for her mother is admirable and I found myself rooting for her to win the wish the entire time! The only thing standing in her way is her struggle to trust others. This layer of intrigue only deepens when her fellow competitor Devroe Kenzie begins to break through her walls with his charm and persistence. I adored their partnership and couldn’t help but audibly scream when it turned into something more.
“Thieves’ Gambit” is full of love and betrayal and I could not get enough despite the ending absolutely destroying me. I need book two immediately and hope that Lionsgate Studios moves forward with the development of Lewis’ debut so that I can see it on the big screen!

If anyone is curious about my living shield whumpee....
Living weapon whumpee ask game!
What is their weapon of choice? (Or do they prefer fighting barehanded?)
What pronouns do people use for them? How do they feel about it? Would they change it if they could?
How much autonomy are they given?
Do they groom themselves? What details about their appearence are chosen by other people?
How obedient are they? Are they defiant or more compliant?
Do they have a comfort object?
How do they dress to go on missions? Do they have an uniform?
Do they have a workout routine?
Are they enhanced in some way? Like drugs/metal transplants/magic to improve their capacity?
Are they a favorite? Are they precious or replaceable?
Are they stealthy? Or perhaps bulky, odd or othersie eye-cathing?
What is their name? Is it a number? Do they have a nickname? Who uses it?
Do they have multiple handlers? Which one is their favorite? Which one sets them less at ease?
Do they have a favorite food? How often do they have it?
Did they have a life before this?
Do they have a person they care for? Is it someone they are supposed to protect or is it in spite of orders?
Do they have a squick in their job? Something that bugs them (like blood under their nails) or pisses them off?
How do they wear their hair?
Do they have a good aim?
Do they have survival skills? If they are on their own, can they find food, take care of themselves?
Would they survive a battle royale situation, like the Hunger Games?
Do they have any disabilities? How does it impact them on their job?
Are they loyal? Do their superiors trust them to go off on their own and come back, or are they kept on a tight leash?
What makes them relaxed?
What makes them nervous?
Do they have any nervous habits?
Can they blend in on a civil and normal environment? Do they know how to use a phone/buy groceries/whatever is normal in your setting? Can they get by lowkey or would they catch attention?
Do they have a non-fighting related skill, such as writing, doing math, drawing or speaking another language? Was it taught to them? Did they learn it themselves?
Can they endure torture? Is there a method that immediately breaks them? Are they good torturers?
How are they doing?
I will try to send an ask to everybody who reblogs this, so everyone can get at least one 🫡 you can try sending an ask to who you reblogged it from, too!

i think this is the last one for this book for right now
just to be completely clear, i appreciate the strategy devroe used, like getting the most capable person to like you and choose you and trust you and using it to your advantage is a perfect con and he executed it perfectly
my issue is that in the next book he’s going to be forgiven because of some BS like ‘he actually liked her and he didn’t mean to hurt her’. i just want ross to hate him or at least just not want to be around him and for him to own what he did, like let him be a liar and let him only have wanted her because he wanted to win please

Or a ring you can't touch when your master purposely leaves it unattended.....
There's something delicious about the means of escape being just out of reach.
The key to the cell hanging on a hook in sight of the bars. The lock to the chains being tied on a string around their neck. A knife that could cut the ropes, sheathed at the captors belt. The weapon that could help them fight wrenched from their grasp or beyond the reach of their fingertips. The anger that would overpower the fear never making it to their frozen muscles.
And what happens if they do reach it? What happens if an ally comes to their aid? The means are right there, they just have to seize them. Can they do it? Can they make it? Or will it taunt them for longer than they can bear to admit?

Okay so - the origin of the Autobots and Decepticons. I’ll admit I’m mostly pulling from the wiki, since the Allspark Almanac is very long and there’s a lot of lore thats scattered around a lot of different places. So this is what is commonly understood.
(Also this is over the course of millions of years. Transformers long ass timescale basically)
The Autobots and Decepticons are the modern factions, but in Cybertron’s past they’ve had several wars. There is some lore on how this came to be, but the important stuff if that a group called the Protectobots eventually came to power through a coup d’état.
Eventually Nova Magnus came to power, and started what was known as “the great purge” in order to eliminate all “undesirables” including knowledge of their past. They were stopped by another faction known as the Destrons led by Devros, who won the war and came to power around 1 billion years ago.
The Autobots emerged as a sub-faction of the Protectobots, encouraging them to expand into other planets and eventually other systems around 700 million years ago, founding the Autobot commonwealth. However, Destrons started to feel like they were doing all the work defending the commonwealth and not seeing the benefits. This ended eventually, likely from these tensions.
As tensions grew, a subfaction of Destrons, the Decepticons, rose to prominence around 70 million years ago and were led by Megazarak. By that time, the age of expansion was over and the Decepticons wanted to return to it - advocating to bring Cybertron itself to life to become a juggernaut of conquest. They’re vaguely implied to be very imperialistic while Autobots focused more on art and science.
When Megatron ousted Megazarak as leader, tensions reached a boiling point and the Great War began. We don’t know how long it exactly was, only that it lasted for millions of years and by the time animated started it’s been at least one or two million years. Long enough for there to be a new generation thats never seen war, at least on the Autobot’s side.
Jump forward a lot, a new combiner group were named Protectobots and it’s noted this name has negative connotations in modern times, which also tells us a lot about what we should think of them.
So basically both factions were originally political groups on Cybertron, but there’s always been something of a divide between the civilians and war frames that got more pronounced over time - which matches the g1 clips we see in the first episode, since the g1 backstory for the war was that the Autobots and Decepticons have always been fighting for control over Cybertron.
However, this divide became MONUMENTAL after the Great War, which was the largest of the Cybertronian wars, and now they’re basically completely different societies and co-existence is inconceivable to both groups from what we see.
I find this interesting compared to TFP, where Optimus Prime wants there to be peace super badly and the divide between them is a much more recent thing (relatively speaking).
Anyways - thanks for giving me space to infodump :) and I’m not any authority lol, especially since so much lore is scattered and almost none of it is in the show. Honestly, I think most Animated fic writers pick and choose what to use because of just how unexplained it is lol.
I’m loving the TFP x TFA stuff you’ve already done, it’s a lot of fun to contrast such different stories against eachother!
omg thank you for explaining this to me!
and im glad you enjoy my crossover au, ill use all the info you dumped on me to better flesh out this au, thank you!

Excerpt from this story from Inside Climate News:
On a clear, hot summer afternoon along the Bogue Chitto creek at Walker’s Bridge Water Park in southern Mississippi, Noah Devros dives into the murky water with a flashlight and cheap plastic dive mask. He emerges holding a small turtle.
Devros is a graduate student and researcher from the University of Southern Mississippi, and he’s working to tag and inventory the Pearl River map turtle, which in July was listed as “threatened” under the Endangered Species Act. The rule effectively makes it illegal to harm the animals in any way.
Armed with these new protections, this turtle could be the catalyst for halting a huge and controversial engineering project upriver in Jackson, Mississippi, known locally as “One Lake.”
Devros weighs and tags the map turtle before placing her back into the sand.
“They’re really charismatic,” said Devros, adding that the species is important to the local ecology; they eat invasive clams and clean the water by consuming algae.
The Pearl River map turtle, named after the one place it calls home and the maplike details on its back, relies on the running waters of the Pearl River basin in Mississippi and Louisiana to eat, nest and live.
But upstream, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has put forward a plan to reduce flooding from the Pearl River in Jackson. The plan—one of four flood-control proposals being considered by the agency—would dredge and widen a section of the Pearl and build a new dam across the river, creating an artificial lake spanning roughly 1,700 acres.
Scientists and environmental groups warn that One Lake would be devastating for the map turtle, flooding beaches the species depends on for nest-building and wiping out food sources along the Pearl’s riverbed. Critics also say the project could have far-reaching economic impacts beyond Jackson, threatening tourism and other industries downstream.

Hounds of Terra Lore Overview
Ok, I've been trying to get more of this stuff written down, so here's a crack at that. This is just bullet points and timelines, though I am trying to improve my writing skills enough to throw together a short story down the line.
Tumblr media
The Hounds of Terra are a successor chapter of the Brazen Claws, established as part of the 23rd founding in late M37. They were granted the world of Euros IV on the furthest reaches of the eastern fringe as a chapter homeworld. The intent with their founding was to secure the region and allow for the withdrawal of other imperial forces. The Quintand Gamma subsector the world resides in was key in keeping more easily secured worlds supplied, even if the subsector itself was not good for much more than raw resources.
A lieutenant of the Brazen Claws serving within the deathwatch, Devros Avidon, was selected to be the chapter's first Chapter Master, as the High Lords desired a seasoned commander to be appointed so far from terra. Besides Avidon, a handful of squads who survived the Brazen Claw's assault on the Eye of Terror but believed their chapter destroyed were directed by the administratum to the newfound chapter. Undetected in these veterans, the taint of the warp had twisted the fine details of their geneseed.
Over the next few decades, the chapter's apothecaries were more and more confounded by the decline of the chapter's geneseed. Eventually discerning the cause, the chapter command fiercely debated what was to be done. The chaplaincy eventually won out, arguing that as no marines had turned to chaos, this was merely another test the chapter must endure, pushing themselves as far as they can bear in service to Him on Terra.
The apothecarium and forges of the tech marines together forged the new path for the chapter's aspirants. The mutations had destroyed the function of the Sus-an Membrane and Omophagea, as well as put the Betcher's Gland and Larraman's Organ into an overactive state. In addition, the geneseed was no longer receptive to the standard pool of aspirants, the apothecarium finding that women were more receptive to the chapter's geneseed than men. Among more mundane medical complications, his made it so each aspirant would have to endure their throat being burned out from inside before they could be fitted with corrective augmetics. Any aspirant deemed to not have endured as they should is denied augmetics, forced to succumb to their injuries.
This means that the entirety of the modern chapter is equipped with augmetic vocoders where their voice boxes once were, with the standard rite of passage for an aspirant elevated to full marine is to allow them a few days and the aid of a tech marine to customize their vocoder's sound. As a result, the common euphemism for promotion out of the scout company within the Hounds of Terra is for one to "earn their voice."
As a marine of the Hounds of Terra weathers multiple campaigns, they develop a network of scar tissue from nearly any wound. Over time, this will impede the marine's motion, requiring amputation and replacement with augmetics. By the time a marine is granted the rank of Veteran, they are likely to have replaced two or more limbs.
In the lead up to the great rift, the Hounds of Terra lost their homeworld, driving the chapter to the stars. As the eye of terror spread and darkened the light of the astronomicon, the Hounds crossed paths with the remnants of another Iron Hands successor, the Twilight Hawks. The Hawks had fallen prey to the predations of chaos, losing most of their chapter and their fortress monastery to a slaaneshi uprising.
Given the unprecedented circumstances, the Twilight Hawk's first captain, Tetys, agreed to have the remnants of his chapter be integrated into the Hounds of Terra, benefiting from the Hound's resources, while the Hounds were able to stabilize their chapter's geneseed with the careful introduction of what reserves the Hawks had.
The acquisition of primaris modification further improved the stock o the chapter, although it also caused a crisis within the chapter's ranks. An argument started by lieutenant Duskova escalated into a shipboard engagement, resulting in the self destruction of the strike cruiser Adamant Shield.
At present, the chapter is doing what it can to support the imperial forces out in the eastern fringe, whilst also seeking the means to refit the chapter flagship into a vessel truly worthy to hold the title of fortress monastery.

Book Blurb:
The high-stakes sequel to Thieves' Gambit, for fans of Jennifer Lynn Barnes and Ally Carter.
It's been six months since the end of the Gambit. Instead of winning an impossible wish, Ross has the threat of her family’s execution hanging over her head. Devroe, the only person Ross thought she could trust, could wish the Quests into oblivion at any time. Shockingly, despite his betrayal, Devroe is still making a play for Ross’s heart as the two work together pulling jobs for the Organization. But Ross has learned her lesson: A Quest can only trust another Quest.
When Ross finds herself at the center of a power struggle within the Organization, she sees her chance to change her fortunes. As a new deadly Gambit develops for control of the criminal underworld, Ross strikes a risky deal to guarantee protection for herself and her family.
In this final clash, Ross will square off against a ruthless opponent who will stop at nothing to seize power, and in their corner will be not only Devroe but his mother, who wants to destroy the Quests at any cost.
The new Gambit takes Ross and her crew into the intoxicating casinos of Monte Carlo and across treacherous snow-covered slopes in Antarctica as Ross competes against Devroe in a fight for her life. Loyalties will be tested, backs stabbed, hearts broken. May the best thief win.
Review:
The sequel to Thieves' Gambit filled with deadly cons, heists, betrayals.... and a dash of romance. Picking up after the events of the first book, Ross is still bitter over the betrayal of Devroe... the boy she fell in love with who just happens to have stolen her wish from her and whose mother wants to kill Ross and her entire family. Ross is now forced to work with Devroe for the Organization... and despite his betrayal Devroe is determined to win Ross's heart. Ross wants nothing to do with Devroe and will do anything to get away from him... despite his flirty texts and him telling her he'd do anything for her. When Ross finds herself in the middle of a power struggle in the Organization and she has to find a way to guarantee protection for her family and herself.... Ross will have to find a way to work with Devroe if she wants to succeed,.. but that means spending time with him and possibly forgiving him. Can she find it in herself to open her heart and trust him again and can she fid a way to protect her family... or is this just one big losing gambit on her part? This was definitely a fun sequel to the first book and despite the tempo feeling a bit different I did enjoy the heists and the stakes in this one. The shining part of this book for me was the dynamic between Ross and Devroe, and Ross and her team. The ending wraps up nicely and it's the kind of ending that could just end the series here but it also could open up to new adventures for Ross and her team. It's a fun series to read overall and I think if you like heists and team/action reads with romance, definitely give it a go.

I don’t know if PB is necessarily scared of portraying polyamory where ReaperStang and Dassius are concerned. He just doesn’t take Dassius seriously and I get why. Dassius strikes me as an accidental thing, a fire unintentionally fueled by having Darrow gush over Cassius every damn chance he gets (for the sake of their characterizations, I think, rather than any deliberate attempt to queerbait), an unexpected development in what was intended to be a straightforward rivalry driven by jealousy and insecurity. And more often than not, PB treats them, in–world, like the joke he clearly sees them as.
But I def agree that it was a missed opportunity. Imo, this series begs again and again and again for polyamorous twists, to the extent that the narrative literally serves them on platters, and I wish PB recognized that, seized these opportunities as much as the others he’s openly discussed, that he ran with some of these polycules, one of them, any of them, lol. Let the creative process work both ways where romance was concerned, y’know? Input and output.
I understand the apprehension towards creating potential love–triangles and I do appreciate how RR emphasizes the value and importance of non–romantic love, but there’s just so much wasted poly–potential in this series, it makes me uber–sad.
Petition to let Darrow have male–wives, plz.
(In a certain fic, he just might 😉)
listen I like mustang and darrow as much as the next person but don't you think..... perhaps..... just the once..... darrow should kiss cassius

anyway i have realised that i would probably rather die than be vulnerable with someone because of the chance that they could use that against me and i know that the betrayal wouldn’t get me it would be the pure embarrassment like you had the chance to play me and you did?? kill me now please

They made davros walk because he was bad disabled representation. I still love that devros was a wheelchair user as a fellow disabled person. He had one arm and no legs and he is blind.
AND HE STILL MADE THE DALEKS.
Granted, this one must have been a prototype But he was disabled when the main Fleet came out.

my day was good thankyou love 🤍
honestly i loved thieves gambit, however i wish it was less romance, i loved the book from its action and tasks they had to complete, but i wished it showed rosalyn to be less interested in a potential boyfriend, yk? not that theres anything wrong with that, but imo it pulled away from the plot a bit
also the author completely missed the chance to make it wlw, as rosalyn and noelia had much more chemistry than rosalyn and devroe, as r+n could have been enemies to lovers with a misunderstanding whereas r+d were competitors to lovers, also i feel as if there is a greater bond between rosalyn and noelia and they are two strong independent women 😼
but honestly its a very good book, i will definitely buy the 7 husbands of evelyn hugo and some of the others on your list, its time for me to stop reading books with straight couples and wishing the girl would just leave and get herself a girlfriend 🤞
have a lovely day/night grace!! <3
I’m glad that you had a good day! <3
Books that focus on the romance aspect kind of ruin it for me too. I’m not someone who is big into romance books either, so just seeing a romance pull away from the plot of a book just leaves a sour taste in my mouth
AND THE AUTHOR HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO TURN IT INTO A WLW?!? That’s just criminal. Enemies to lovers will always have a special place in my heart, especially with a misunderstanding!!! ‘Crier’s War’ is just like that! People want to see powerful women with powerful women!
When you do get the seven husbands, you’ll have to let me know what you think of it! Books with straight couples are a hard read already, but I really do hope that you enjoy my recommendations! <3
Thank you love! I hope you have a good day/night as well 🤍
