Internalized shame is the fancy word for us feeling bad because we're comparing ourselves to unreasonable standards. It's okay to prioritize your life and spend the time where it makes sense to you, even if that doesn't match the Instagram/ lifestyle magazine images you see around you. The week I filmed this, I spent 8+ hours outside in the sunshine, 30+ hours hanging out with my kids or partners, 4+ hours reading in the bathtub, and of course about 30 hours working and almost 60 hours sleeping. Will I eventually clean the house? Sure. Am I feeling any regret at all for spending my time on the things that matter to me? No! Not a bit.

Who can relate?

I have 4 teenage children (19,16,14,13). Wake up in the morning on a scheduled day off to find my kitchen like this! This seems to be a daily occurrence and they are constantly wondering why I am tired or in a bad mood, or even why things are taken away from them for a while. AKA Video games, phones, free time to go shopping, etc...

Don’t you just love when you’ve been so depressed that you haven’t cleaned in a while and then just a random day you feel like you have to tackle it all and you start deep cleaning and then you just slowly start getting depressed again in the middle of cleaning and now you have a bigger mess than what you started with because same.
