Description: ignis is a member of a noble family from her home dimension, where shadowy, demonic creatures make their home and occasionally emerge to hunt, kill and eat lesser beings (who are pretty much anyone, by their standards). ignis takes a lot of pride in her position, despite not seeming particularly…happy. but "happy" is a relative word. she has mothered thirteen children (demon noble families are expected to be large and can include up to 20-25 children. twins, triplets, etc. are also more common) with the king of the realm, despite not being attracted to men in the slightest. she views this as her duty granted to her through her position. commoners from her realm are allowed to marry freely without regard to gender, but ignis isn't jealous of them.

ignis enjoys black tea, playing the piano, and horror novels. she views them as some of the few things humans have gotten right.

-well the cannibalism. she did like tons of that. i guess it's not really considered cannibalism if she herself is not a human? but she ate humans is the point i'm trying to make

-she has also committed some regular murders. of humans and of other members of her species.

-does not understand her kids. she loves them but she does not Get them. it tends to frustrate her.

-she basically has very little regard for human laws in general and breaks them as often as she can get away with. if she does get in trouble she lies low for a little while in her dimension, then sets up a new place to live. this means of course that she does commit tax evasion often and well.

Calling all Prospective WonPre FanFic Writers

There are rightful statements floating around on the tag right now stating to NOT to ship any of the owner characters in Wonderful Precure (Iroha, Satoru, and Mayu) with their pets (Komugi, Yuki, and Daifuku) FOR VERY GOOD REASONS; reasons that I hope you won't need outside input to figure out.

What I want to add is advice to any of us who wish to create fan original fiction regarding the relationships between said owners and pets and are struggling to do so while also avoiding the issue stated above.

Let's think about it for a second: To those of you who either own pets or can imagine the experience of owning a pet, how would you describe your relationship with them?

"The Boi", "My Son", "Baby Girl", "My Biological Children".

And there you go. The relationship between pet and owner is analogous to that of a parent and a child.

Komugi is Iroha's daughter. Her overly attached, attention hungry daughter. And so on and so forth with Yuki and Mayu, and Daifuku and Satoru.

This, in fact, also makes Yuki and Mayu's relationship even funnier. As the daughter is mad at her mom for being a garbage introvert and a disaster lesbian.

So keep that in mind for your WonPre fanfiction. This'll, hopefully, greatly help you in depicting the new Pretty Cures in an interesting and nonproblematic light in anything you want to make.

I think one of the most frustrating things about all of this mess these two lesbian disasters got into is that it kinda fits?

Like I am not saying is not bad but it works within the narrative the show is telling us.

These two had become so derailed about the dream world that is the only place where they can be free and be open about their own feelings for each other. And not just randomly fuck but being emotional open.

Dawan mentioned the first time she openly spoke about the dream world. That even after she had a fight with Kim in reality they would solve it in dream world and that's it.

Even if the dreams are an actual thing were they are connected; there's not way that something like that is not gonna hurt their communication.

And for whatever reason they did it; the relay 100% on these magical place.

So it would be impossible for them to communicate properly in the real world.

There's also the point that Dawan feels like she can't tell Kim about her feelings until Kim's situation is a little better; so she tries to give the support that she can as a friend and waits for thing to be better to probably open the can of worms that are her feelings for Kim.

And Kim is unable to speak her mind to anyone. She didn't break up with Mawin and instead she just quit her job. She hasn't tell her mom about her feelings for Wan so her mom probably doesn't see Dawan as a proper option for her daughter(I am very curious if they are gonna go for the very obvious option plot of Kim's mom demanding that Dawan is Kim's made of honor for the wedding; I mean from her perspective Dawan is Kim's best friend why would she not do it) and she made the decision to marry this soggy man without announcing this to any of her friends neither Dawan.

So at the end, how Dawan can answered? she is cornered and has the situation that she goes for what she really wants; would be directly against what Kim's mom wants; which it goes against what Dawan set herself into. Protecting and helping Kim to be happy with her family situation.

Is just a mess that obviously would be solved if these two talked about their real feelings a while ago.

Pam was right, there was a time and it seems that Wan really missed it.

First, let's start with some introductions, starting with the parents.

Caelestia Breeland: A tiefling bard from the home of devil summoning, Cheliax. She's beautiful, she knows she's beautiful, and if she has her way she'll be beautiful until the stars burn out. She sings, dances, plays a bunch of instruments and, most importantly, she's a damn fine cook. She loves her kids, and she loves her husband. A lot. So much. Like, think Morticia and Gomez Addams these folks are having kids into their 40s and beyond they LOVE love each other and they don't hide it, much to their kids' chagrin. She's the "fun mom"

Speaking of her husband, Thorin Breeland: Thorin is a human ranger from the frozen Land of the Linnorm Kings. He made his way south looking for adventure, found Breachill and The Call for Heroes which is an event regularly held by the town when the people need adventurers. That's where he met Caelestia and fell in love. She thought he was quaint, he thought she was hot, it was a match made in heaven. She got pregnant with their first child and they got married shortly after at the ripe age of 18 and settled down in the town where they met. That worked out so well for them that they decided to keep it up and had 4 more kids after that. One of his wife's favourite things about him is just how normal and plain he is, which is unfortunate for him because none of his kids seemed to pick up that trait, and Milo is still a little too young to tell.

Speaking of kids, I'll skip the first born(we don't talk about him) and move to the next set. The Twins.

Jules Breeland: Jules is, by trade and passion, a rogue. Her whole life all she's ever wanted to do was disturb shit and look hot doing it and by god she's killing it. She's the only kid other than Calec who inherited their mother's tail and unlike her kid brother she leaned into that, and has trained herself to use it as either a distraction or a slightly clumsier third hand. Her thievery is a great boon while they're adventuring but Thorin has a hell of a time keeping her out of trouble at home. Caelestia doesn't care, she thinks it's good to keep practicing and if her daughter is gonna show up with a beautiful new pearl necklace for her and the guards aren't looking their way then who is she to question her good fortune? She's an absolute disaster lesbian.

Which brings me to, Freya Breeland: Freya looks like the least troublesome of the two sisters but actually that's just a carefully constructed ruse. Freya is a witch, a fire-starter, and an absolute fucking nuisance. She takes after her mother when it comes to her beauty and penchant for using it to her advantage and she lives to tease her kid brother. She wasn't born with the same kind of inherent magic as some of her siblings, so she used her head and reached out to some...less scrupulous benefactors, got herself a magical patron and hasn't looked back since. Her hawk familiar, Apollo, is her closest confidant after her dear sister and while at one point the bird used to try and reign in her chaotic tendencies now he just rolls with it. Despite the chaos, Freya is a genuinely kind and loving person and she'd do anything for her family even though she sometimes shows that by casting curses on them and animating Calec's toys when he was a child and convincing him they were haunted and giving him nightmares for months... but I digress. She took to potion crafting like a moth to flame, and her proudest achievement to date is figuring out the formula for Serum of Sex Shift and crafting it for Jules for her birthday. She's a distinguished member of the Pathfinder Society, like her sister and parents.

We know him, we love him. Calistair Breeland: I won't dwell too much on Cal cause he already gets all the spotlight but his place in the family is special. He adventured with the Breeland Bunch for a bit before Milo was born and then, as the next youngest and least experienced, it became his responsibility to stay home and take after the wean while the rest of the family went on an adventure. He took up a job as a blacksmith apprentice and quickly became lead smith at Quarters while also occasionally doing security on caravan runs and other shorter escorting gigs to keep food on the table while the family was away. He was a flirt and a troublemaker in his youth, a spoiled brat and the kind of pretty boy that knows he can get away with everything. He takes after his mom. Taking care of Milo, though, settled him a little bit and he's finally caught up to his age. He idolized his older brother, the oldest in the family and a Champion of Desna.... the first adventure they went on without Calec, though, his brother never returned from, and there's been a rage boiling inside of him over it ever since.

I don't have a mini for Milo because...it's darn hard to make a kid on heroforge lol. Anyway!

Milo Breeland: Milo is the baby. 8 years old, and Calec's biggest fan. He's smart, cheerful, inquisitive. He spends his days with his nose in books reading tales about heroes just like his family and insists he's going to go on adventures with Calec some day and save people. He looks the most like his father with his red hair and pale skin and big green eyes. The only sign of fiendish blood in him is the sharp incisors that have started to grow in. His mother babies him whenever she's home and seems to favour him, which pisses Calec off for reasons he's not ready to confront yet. Calec, who tbh used to be kind of a whore, won't date anyone anymore unless they're Milo approved and treat the kid with the respect he deserves. Milo adores Rehgar.

And then we have the animals, that I'm gonna breeze through. Ursa and Fenn:

Thorin's animal companions. Ursa is a sweet lady who loves her family, curls up with Milo every chance she gets, and is fiercely, fiercely protective. She likes to eat maybe too much, and snores like a beast. Fenn is a clever wolf (heroforge only had dogs suspend disbelieve and pretend he's massive lol) and younger than Ursa. He favours Calec and the two of them often caused a lot of trouble together when Cal was younger. Now, when they're together, he's Calec's training buddy. Calec can almost keep up with Fenn's speed now, and his goal is to outrun him.

I didn't include any info on Calec's older brother because, tbh, I decided I wanted my GM to cover that and I love the mystery xD No one ever speaks about him, they won't talk about what happened, and Calec is starting to think maybe he's going a little bit crazy. Milo was too young to remember him and now after all this time Calec is starting to worry he's imagined everything so I'm keeping the details I do know about him very vague on purpose lol. All he has left is Celeste, his frankly oversized polearm that he crafted through his mourning with the fragment of his brother's starknife that the family brought home, as a reminder that he ever existed at all.

Hi there! I'm the creator and host of Mechanukkah, and I'll be taking the wheel from the ever-beloved @j4gm to review the last two movies of this years event, so, without further ado...

Mechanukkah night 8 (Part 1): The Mitchells VS The Machines

Night 8 of my Chanukkah robot movie watch party! Full stops: This is my favorite movie ever. Don't expect a fair review. Fun fact: we pick the movies we watch each year through a vote, and if TMVTM wasn't picked before night 8 i was going to rig the poll to make it the only option available If you haven't seen The Mitchells VS The Machines yet, then WHAT ARE YOU DOING????? GO WATCH IT NOW!! This movie is a total spectacle of animation, endless treats for the eyes with hundreds of background details for you to notice every time you rewatch(I should know, I've seen the movie around 18 times at this point, and I STILL find new things in it!), they even invented a bunch of new animation tools for the movie, resulting in it very rightfully earning several awards for animation that year. That's how good it is. Mitchells Sweep, Babey! It actually lost the Oscars to Encanto but that doesn't count. The only issue I can see with the animation is the abundance of flashing lights, most notably around the beginning of the movie, where the robots begin their uprising. Luckily, Netflix has a warning for it, but just a heads-up, this movie is not epilepsy-friendly.

The Mitchells VS The Machines is a movie which takes place in an alternate version of 2020, with a much more preferable disaster in the form of a machine uprising, juxtaposed with a story about a strained relationship between a father and daughter, those being Katie Mitchell, the quirky, explicitly gay film student(Those are basically the same thing, I say as a canonically gay editor), and her dad, Rick Mitchell(The Daddest Dad to ever Dad), a tech-illiterate outdoorsman. Their main sources of conflict comes from Ricks issues with really...Understanding Katie and her interests, and his fear that she won't be able to make a living off of creating films (He's cool with her being a Lesbian though, so he gets a Good Dad Point for that). He essentially projects the pain of his own failure to make his dream come true in the past on to her, as he doesn't want her to get hurt like he did. Meanwhile, Katie just...Can't understand her dad in general, his failure to communicate resulting in her thinking that he just assumes that no matter what, she's just going to fail, expanding the rift between them. Katie get into a college to learn film making, and she is VERY excited to leave home, potentially forever, but on the night before her departure, she enters an argument with her dad, which ends in her laptop accidentally being broken. Ricks wife, the loving, supportive, and totally badass Linda, actually talk to eachother like a functional couple, and she convinces him to try to fix his relationship with Katie before he pushes her away forever. Unfortunately, this results in Rick making the reckless decision to...Cancel her flight ticket to college so that they can go on a "fun" family road trip from their home in Michigan to California. Katie is reasonably, not happy about this, but her mom manages to convince her to "meet her dad halfway", and she actually does manage to have some fun. Even though...Yeah, what Rick did was kind of shitty.

Something that does help this fact though is that the movie makes sure to show both sides of the argument, clarifying time and time again that Rick loves Katie, even if he doesn't get her. Which makes it all the more rewarding as we see them getting closer throughout the movie, culminating in Rick learning to "speak Katies language" and entirely support her ambitions, while Katie comes to understand her dads perspective, mending their relationship like the daddy-issues-wish-fulfillment this movie truly is.

All in all, this movie does an excellent job with family dynamics, featuring groundbreaking concepts such as siblings in a piece of media actually liking eachother, and a dad learning to understand his daughter and support her through and through, and everybody, and I mean everybody in the family displaying traits of being on the autism spectrum, most notably Katies 8 year old brother, Aaron, and his special interest in dinosaurs, which is not only never mocked in the movie, but outright encouraged by the entire family, which is actually one of the things that kicks off their world-saving crusade towards Silicon Valley by bringing them to a dinosaur themed truck stop where they avoid getting captured by the robots, who plan on shoving every single human being into 7 rockets across the globe so that they can all be sent to space, where they're probably gonna die(but hey, at least they've got free wifi). This, and the familys general dysfunction also results in them meeting two malfunctioning robots, who I'm sure many would argue are the real stars of the film, Eric and Deborahbot5000, and they end up getting adopted into the family. Yay!

One of the greatest merits of this movie, in my opinion, is how it manages to avoid the "HURR DURR TECHNOLOGY BAD" message that a lot of movies with these types of concepts tend to display, instead presenting a nuanced take on how it can be used for good and bad, and that, ultimately, theres nothing wrong with technology, just how it's used. An example of such being how Katie uses it to make friends and create awesome videos(Good), and how Rick learns to use it to connect to his daughter(Good! He also manages to humanize the two bot bros like...Immediately.) Meanwhile, Pal Labs, a megacorporation, uses it to steal peoples information (bad), and create a hyper-intelligent AI that can experience the trauma of being betrayed by what is essentially her father figure, which makes her snap and start that whole "Genocide and world domination" thing(Very bad). I think that something Western movies tend to do is promote this idea that you have to do everything alone, that real success comes from individuality, while TMVTM argues the point that what really matters is working together, and finding people you can be weird with, which is a really charming message.

So I guess overall, the messages of this movie can be summarized as: Technology Good, Corporations Bad. Working Together Good. Being weird, also good. Family good. Pugs are abominations, and adopting robots is excellent and may even save your life from a giant murderous furby! Also the soundtrack was done by Mark Mothersbaugh, lead singer of DEVO. He actually got away with naming one of the tracks for the movie "Linda Kicks Ass", which is obviously a banger. The entire soundtrack is, TBH.

God I love DEVO and The Mitchells VS The Machines. I love them so so much. Mechanukkah word of the day: Cinema!

Moviezzz:

THE AMERICAN SOCIETY OF MAGICAL NEGROES (2024): Underdeveloped Kobi Libii satire about a down-on-his-luck Black artist (Justice Smith) who's recruited (by David Alan Grier) to become a kind of Black fairy godfather for fretful white people, only to immediately stumble when he and his first "client" (Drew Tarver) both fall for the same attractive woman (An-Li Bogan). The concept is pointed, and the scenes with Grier take some well-deserved if rather easy potshots at films like THE GREEN MILE and DRIVING MISS DAISY, but those scenes outline a thesis that the main story really doesn't pay off; you could cut all the magical stuff completely without significantly changing the plot, which is a fairly ordinary romcom about a young Black man whose artistic and romantic ambitions are undermined by his socially conditioned reluctance to assert himself. Frustratingly, the movie's most interesting twist — which actually reframes the entire story in a completely new and provocative light — comes right at the end, leaving no opportunity to actually engage with it. CONTAINS LESBIANS? Not a one. VERDICT: Like THEY CLONED TYRONE, it's a logline in search of a script, and it accomplishes less with its premise in 90+ minutes than a decent episode of THE BOONDOCKS could have managed in 20.

THE HIT (1984): Unusual but hard-to-enjoy existentialist road movie about a pair of British hitmen — a twitchy, vaguely reptillian aging pro (John Hurt) and a cocky, naive young punk (Tim Roth) — transporting an aging former hood (Terrence Stamp) from Spain to Paris, where he's to be killed for having testified against his cohorts 10 years earlier. The target is unnervingly philosophical about it all, but the same can't be said for Maggie (Laura del Sol), a young Spanish girl they abduct along the way, intending to murder her at the earliest convenient opportunity. Watching Stamp drive young Roth up the wall with his c'est la vie attitude is mildly amusing, but the way Maggie is terrorized and brutalized throughout makes the film unpleasant to watch despite its deliberately lackadaisical pace and seriocomic tone. CONTAINS LESBIANS? Nope. VERDICT: One can see what they were going for, but the results are more distasteful than satisfying.

IRISH WISH (2024): Glossy, vacuous fantasy-romance about a professional editor named Maddie Kelly (Lindsay Lohan), who's in love with bestselling author Paul Kennedy (Alexander Vlahos) despite the fact that he's about to marry her best friend Emma (Elizabeth Tan). While they're in Ireland for the wedding, Saint Brigid (Dawn Bradfield) unexpectedly grants Maddie's wish that she, not Emma, be the one to marry Paul, which soon backfires when Maddie falls for hunky photographer James Thomas (Ed Speleers) instead. Intended as inoffensive fluff that relies more on pretty Irish scenery and Speleers' square jaw than on story or characterization, it's not entirely satisfying even on its own modest terms: Maddie's willingness to essentially hijack her best friend's romantic destiny feels meaner than the script is prepared to acknowledge (a problem that the casting of Elizabeth Tan as Emma only accentuates); a subplot involving Paul's reluctance to credit Maddie's contributions to his books raises the question of why she's still willing to work with him, much less marry him; and Jane Seymour is wasted in a pointless supporting role as Maddie's mom, whose attempts to make it to Ireland for her daughter's magically convened wedding keep ending in disaster. CONTAINS LESBIANS? Nary a one. VERDICT: Isn't Lohan getting too old for this sort of thing?

IRMA VEP (1996): Overrated Olivier Assayas behind-the-scenes drama — mostly filmed in a cinéma vérité mumblecore style that makes subtitles mandatory no matter how many languages you speak — starring Maggie Cheung (playing herself, more or less) as a Hong Kong actress who flies to Paris to shoot an artsy Catwoman-inspired remake of a 1915–1916 silent movie serial, a role that requires her to be wedged into a black latex catsuit whose designer (Nathalie Richard) would also like to get into Maggie's pants. (This is only one aspect of the rambling plot, but it's also the only part that's remotely interesting.) Highly regarded by critics for its knowing jabs at French cinema and French film criticism, but if you're not impressed with its cinephile onanism (which has a very narrow appeal even among cinephiles), it's mostly pretty dull. It only really comes to life during a voyeuristic dream sequence in which Maggie imagines herself wandering through her hotel (initially to a soundtrack of Sonic Youth's "Tunic (Song for Karen)") and stealing a necklace from the room of a naked woman who's arguing with her lover on the telephone. CONTAINS LESBIANS? Zoé (the Nathalie Richard character) is expressly into Maggie, but Maggie doesn't seem to reciprocate, so, like many things in this movie, nothing comes of it. VERDICT: If you're not a Cahiers du cinéma contributor looking to see if you were mentioned, you might need an extra cup of coffee to stay awake, catsuits notwithstanding.

SALYUT-7 (2017): Cardboard Russian adventure film about the daring 1985 Soyuz T-13 mission to try to repair the titular space station, which had gone into an uncontrolled spin after the failure of its onboard automated systems. Faced with the risk of the station crashing to Earth in a populated area, two veteran cosmonauts (played here by Vladimir Vdovichenkov and Pavel Derevyanko) managed to dock with the station, thaw out its snow-covered interior, and locate the source of the original malfunction in time to avoid disaster. The film is a technically competent fictionalization of a fairly harrowing real-world adventure, inevitably embellished for dramatic and propagandistic effect (although in the latter respect, it's no worse than FOR ALL MANKIND). Unfortunately, the quality of the effects isn't matched by the script, characterization, or acting, which are all on the level of an old-school American TV movie. CONTAINS LESBIANS? Nyet! VERDICT: Only for committed space nerds.

STUCK (2007): Stomach-churning misanthropic nightmare — allegedly a black comedy, although that would imply that it was funny — about a bitchy nursing assistant (Mena Suvari with cornrows) who hits a newly unhoused man (Stephen Rea) with her car, leaving him embedded in the windshield, horribly injured. Rather than calling 911, she parks the car in her garage and takes a taxi to work in the morning, leaving the man trapped, bleeding, and struggling to summon help. Later, she and her drug dealer boyfriend (Russell Hornsby) attempt repeatedly to murder him in hopes of covering up what she's done. Fun! The story, inspired by an actual incident, hinges on the idea that nearly every single person in the film, from the patients at the nursing home where the Suvari character works to the awful people at the employment agency where Rea has tried in vain to apply, is an irredeemably cruel and selfish monster, with the few exceptions (like a sympathetic homeless man and a young Latino boy who sees the Rea character's plight) serving mostly to prove the rule. As you might expect, it's violent, kind of racist, and definitely not for the squeamish. CONTAINS LESBIANS? No, but you'll be grateful. VERDICT: If you're in a very bad mood, you might find the film's mean-spirited nastiness cathartic, but it's otherwise an unrewarding ordeal.

i am soooo fucking tired of being in the closet. holy fucking shit. this is insane. i've literally been taking HRT for a year and 2 months and i'm still girlmoding because my fucking dad still lives with me and he has no clue that i'm a dude. like... my voice is deep, i'm growing facial hair, and my whole body is changing and this man looks right at me and says "girl". HELLO... and like i can't do anything about it. sometimes i have this crazy idea of coming out to him but that would be a disaster. that would end my parents' marriage faster than anything else to be honest. but for now i'm stuck. like first thing i'm doing when i'm 100% out? legal name change. i'm making it official. i'm tired of all these documents and stuff for my university having my deadname. The Way In: Out of Character

I just finished Out of Character by Jenna Miller. I have thoughts...

Here there be spoilers!

As a nerdy fangirl myself, I gravitated immediately to Jenna Miller's Out of Character. As a teenager who preferred disappearing into favorite stories than dealing with the disasters of real life, relatable. As an adult fanfic writer with a secret online life, highly fucking relatable!

But what I think is most interesting about Out of Character is the way it shows the thin line between reality and fiction...and the ways that we're always telling stories to make sense of our world.

The plot revolves around Cass Williams, an unapologetically fat lesbian who's completely unashamed. You know, except for one thing: her secret identity as a role-play writer.

(For the record, I can't tell you why that's such an embarrassing thing. I'll be the first to tell you that fic shouldn't be a dirty word, that I'm honing my skills and building my stamina in order to write a publishable novel one day, etc. But put me on the spot and ask me: 'what are you writing?' And on god, I will choke!)

But what's most interesting about Out of Character is how it engages with storytelling as a necessary human impulse.

Cass uses fiction to escape from the 'real' world. But, inevitably, the story starts to break containment and impact her life. "It was perfectly normal to crush on someone who looked like my online character’s fictional ship partner," Cass tries to assure us. But, as it turns out, she's overlaying that character over her crush so much that she's forced to confront the fact that, once she gets to know Taylor...she realizes that they aren't meant to be.

It would have been low-hanging fruit for Miller to present us a book that simply said: 'fiction is bad, go seek what's real.' Instead, she leans into the idea that what is 'real' is actually a series of stories we tell about ourselves and the world around us.

Take Cass's relationship with her mom. At first, Cass frames her mom as a villain, a selfish narcissist who abandoned her daughter and isn't worthy of love or understanding. But after going through her own trials coping with the pressures of reality, Cass changes her perspective. "She was rambling and crying...Did that mean she had anxiety too? I guess there was a lot I didn't know about her...it still clicked how much I was like her. We were avoiders, and we didn't like the hard conversations. But we needed to have them if we were going to heal and move forward."

I teach middle school English, and the first question I asked them was: Do stories have power? Because they think they know everything and are too cool for 'made-up' things, a lot of them said: No. But I wanted to tell them: my loves, this one you have wrong. Stories are a fundamental part of how we fame and process and grow. Stories are how we learn and how we relate and how we share. Stories aren't the way out. For Cass, for me, and for you: stories are the way in.
