Rainbow High Littles: Indigo Bailey, Pt. 1
All right y'all, I said we'd do this so let's go. I was originally going to make this all one entry, but I decided to break off the hair discussion as a separate post, since this one was already way too long before I even got to that point XD Will link Pt. 2 once it's published.
Tumblr media
Krystal Jr.: What the heck are we doing all the way over here? Krystal Sr.: We need to collect a delivery to take back to Rainbow Heights--a sister! KJ: I thought I was your sister? KS: No, you're a younger version of me from an alternate point in our shared timeline. We just say you're my sister so it's less confusing for everyone else. KJ: If I'm you from the past and we're both in the same place, shouldn't that create some sort of temporal paradox where you cease to exist? KS: The normal laws of physics don't apply in the doll universe, dear. It's best not to think on it too much. KJ: Okaaaaaaaaaay. But this one is NOT us, right? KS: …Probably not? Indigo: ((Maybe stop talking and let me out, please?))
Sooooooooo yeah, Indigo. Where to begin? For starters, I think the vitriol that's being dumped on these poor Littles is completely out of proportion to what they actually are--tiny dolls meant for small hands to play with. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. I can see how they would be less appealing to adult collectors used to a more sophisticated product from this brand, but I personally will do my best to judge her by her own merits.
First impressions: I think she's cute! I pulled a few of her braids back with a rubber band to make her face more visible, but otherwise straight out of the box she's good to go.
Tumblr media
Krystal Jr.: Are we a family? Are we clones? Honestly folks, it's anyone's guess. Indigo: Is she always this snarky? Krystal Sr.: Don't worry sweetie, it's just her being a tween, we grow out of it eventually. I: We? KS: It's complicated.
More detailed discussion of clothes & accessories under the cut--
Let's talk about the dress and that reviled plastic bodice. Honestly? I don't mind it! I can't speak for the rest of the line, but in Indigo's case at least it's clear there was some effort put into her overall design. I was especially delighted by the skirt portion of her dress, which is made of a lovely little textured woven fabric featuring a butterfly design, with a coordinating tulle ruffle trim. There's even an underskirt made from a plasticy fine-weave fabric. Both the main skirt and underskirt are sewn (that's right, not glued--there are STITCHES) to the base of the plastic top portion of the dress.
Ok so, no one loves plastic doll clothes. I get it. Not a fan myself. But for what this is, considering it's all one piece, I'm impressed by the amount of detail, and how well it reads as 'normal' clothing. The midsection has a sculpted raised texture that closely mirrors the design of the skirt fabric. The collar section is painted a lighter contrasting shade of purple that compliments her shoes (all the adult collectors who whine about lack of painted detail on molded plastic pieces, here you go), and the ruffle around the armholes compliments the trim on the skirt. Everything is held together neatly at the back with a piece of velcro at the top of the skirt.
Given how difficult it can be to sew fabric doll clothing in this scale that actually looks good, I think the plastic top is a fair compromise to increase ease of use for smaller hands.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The shoes! I was pleasantly surprised by the level of detail on these. The butterfly motif from the dress is carried on here, with sculpted decoration all the way around the tops and even on the soles. This was absolutely unnecessary, but I'm so happy they did it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Indigo's official height is listed as 5.5 inches, which lands her somewhere between an old school Kelly doll and the closest MGA equivalent in my collection, a Dream Ella Extra Iconic Mini. I believe Magic Mixies Pixlings are also of a similar size, but I don't have one to include in this comparison.
Tumblr media
Indigo's pet is...a thing that exists. Her product description says it's a 'magical fox'. Sure.
Tumblr media
Ok folks, that's it for pt. 1. We're going to take a closer look at those braids in pt.2

Magic Mixling Review: Deerlee!
Guess who got her hands on Deerlee?? I did! I couldn’t find her anywhere in my area, nor any of my neighboring towns. After ordering her twice on Amazon, I finally got her (the first time was another Unia). She was the one I was most excited for too.
Tumblr media
Here’s Deerlee with all of my other deer-esque dolls. Monster High Isi Dawndancer, Monster High Gilda Goldstag, Zelfs Talleen (she’s not technically a deer….but I wanted something else in the picture) and Manny the moose Zelf.
Tumblr media
Here she is!! She’s super cute. She has a bunch of cute (I think plum) blossoms all over her, including her antlers.
More of her and other deer dolls under the cut!
Tumblr media
As with almost all of the Pixlings, she has sculpted clothes (including gloves) and a “swimsuit” with the same theming. The knots on her top/boots/back of gloves remind me of pankou knots (I’m not sure if that intentional or not). It does bother me that her little tail is on the side. I need to make her a little tail like Winter and Unia.
Tumblr media
Here are both sides of her shoes (she has hooves sculpted on the front).
Tumblr media
The bottom has more plum blossoms, petals, and the Moose Toys logo.
Tumblr media
Her hair is super soft by the way. It feels just as soft as the other Pixlings. She also still has some pixelization (but again, it’s not as distracting as Mattel’s printing). Her blushing on her nose and one side of her upper lip is a bit off, but not too bad. She also has a very cute assortment of freckles and petals on her face.
Oh! And her ears are fully sculpted to her head, they’re not separate pieces.
Tumblr media
An oddity with Deerlee is her neck peg. It doesn’t seem to have any paint on it and it is very visible when she lifts her neck up.
Let’s briefly compare her to some of her deer attributes to other deer-like dolls (as I don’t own many of these and I do deeper dives into them on my other Pixling posts).
Her and Gilda both have deer-like ears sticking out of the side of their heads, pinkish hair, face spots, and light tan/gold skin (the darker tan on Deerlee is very similar to Gilda’s skin tone). Her antlers are much more like an antelope than those of a deer.
Tumblr media
Gilda’s horns have more in common with Enchantimals: Gabriela Gazelle’s.
Tumblr media
Let’s compare her to someone who has more deer features: Isi Dawndancer.
Isi actually doesn’t have attached antlers, and her ears are placed higher on her head; she does have lots of freckles/spots on her face though. To make up for the lack of antlers, she has some of the COOLEST FEET EVER! Take a look Deerlee!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cute little hoofies!!! She’s actually the only one of these bipedal deer dolls that (were created) to have hoof feet.
Monster High had another deer-like character: Fawn, but she never received a doll. She has deer ears on the side of her head, no antlers, face freckles and she has HOOF FINGERS!!
Tumblr media
Ever After High’s Dragon Games’ Deerla (a smaller pixie doll, ancestor to their Enchantimals’ line) has similar design elements to Isi, Fawn, and Deerlee:
Tumblr media
Her skin tone looks very close to Fawn’s, she has freckles, and deer ears on top of her head (like Isi’s).
-I still can’t get over the two pairs of ears design choice-
……her antlers look really odd, like they have a main antler shape in there, but they added a bunch of random swirls to them as an afterthought.
Deerla passed down her golden ears, antlers and second pair of ears to her Enchantimal cousins.
Tumblr media
Danessa Deer is one of the main cast of Enchantimals. She is about the height of Deerlee, has a similar skin tone to Isi, and once again has freckles.
Tumblr media
Danetta Deer (-they seriously just took the two ‘s’s in her name and changed them to the next letter in the alphabet-) is on a much smaller Enchantimal body and basically looks like a smaller version of Danessa with a cuter face (in my humble opinion).
Tumblr media
Rainey Reindeer has some impressive looking antlers. She has the lightest of freckles and she looks close to Deerlee’s skin complexion. Honestly, one of the cuter Enchantimals (maybe because her ponytail hides her human looking ears).
Tumblr media
Nope, I lied. Queen Delilah has the most impressive looking set of antlers sculpted onto her head (for the Enchantimal line anyways). -someday she will be mine- She is eight inches tall. A tiny bit shorter than the Ever After High Pixies which were 8.5 inches tall, but she has more articulation: her knees! Not even Deerlee has that!
She looks to be the same color as Rainey and parts of Deerlee. Of course she has the freckles too.
The last Mattel line I’m going to look at are the Monster High Frightmares. Specifically the two “deer” looking frightmares: Fawntime Fallowheart and Meadoe Flurry. -two more deer dolls I desperate wanted but never bothered to buy when I had the chance!!-
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They are 6 inches tall, have molded on clothing and down turned ears just like Deerlee! Their arm articulation is pretty limited, but they could move at the hip and neck. They have the cutest little molded deer tails!! And their bodies are giving me nostalgia for my G2 My Little Ponies. I think only Fawntime has freckles (and some unique branch eyebrows) and Meadoe has only powdered lavender/ periwinkle skin tone so far (and the most badass looking fantasy antlers). Okay! Onto MGA’s deer doll offerings.
-my holy grail- Novi Star’s Doe A. Deer! She has flocked legs (and I thiiiiink that’s all…which is a choice).
Tumblr media
Her body is mostly white and her dress looks like something Fawntime would like to graze on, she doesn’t have any freckles (just some dot eyebrows, Gilda would be pleased), I don’t believe she has a tail, her ears look to be the same, but her antlers are wonderfully large.
Na! Na! Na! Surprise had a female and a male deer doll: Myra Woods and Donnie Ranger.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both have the littlest of freckles, super detailed clothes (seriously, Donnie’s look amazing) and plastic horns stuck to their hats (both seem to be new sculpts too). For some reason, Myra’s sleeping bag’s antlers are set under her ears.
Okay! Onto another Moose toy!!! Zelfs!!! I have already said how much I love posing my pixlings with my Zelfs, but they are so cute together. Deerlee seems to like gossiping with Talleen and Manny.
Tumblr media
Both of them have ears stuck to the tops of their head like Isi and the Enchantimals. There were two more deer themed Zelfs: Dorthy-doe (who looks a bit more like a pink Jack-a-lope than a deer) and another reindeer to join the herd: Rein-Doe. Both lack face spots and have different horns than Deerlee (although Rein-doe looks very similar - he even seems to have a flower theme too).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I had wanted to compare her with one of my Zelfs that had downturned ears (as what hers immediately reminded me of). Hmm, it actually looks like the Zelfs (this is Flitter by the way) had a little indent in there and Deerlee had thicker chunkier ears.
Tumblr media
Anyways, not as deep as I usually go for over-views on dolls, but I’ll take some more photos of her after I give her a proper tail and paint some of the detail on her shirt and gloves. Did you guys have a favorite deer themed doll? Any of these on your want list? Did I miss any play line deer dolls?? She was super cute, and while I would still love for the line to give us knee articulation, more dolls with fully removable clothing, and the option to buy the dolls without the potion bottles (which are fun, but I am not going to be playing with them again). I look forward to trying to find the dragon and the fairy pixlings.

Doll review: Rainbow High Michelle St. Charles
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Base doll:
Michelle is such a beautiful doll! I love her face sculpt! I'm not sure if it's unique to her, but her screening fits it so well. I love her eyes, I'm so glad that Rainbow High has more brown-eyed characters now. Her eyeshadow is also super cool. I love how it's metallic instead of glittery, like most RH dolls. I also like the little bit of dark brown eyeshadow above the silver, it adds more depth to her face, which I like because RH dolls tend to have very flat faces. Her lipstick is also super pretty and I love her lip mould. I like how there is a bit of paint on the corners of her mouth that accentuates the sculpt. Her super long nails are very fun, but mine have a pretty scrappy paint job, especially on her right hand. There's also a bit of chipping on her eye paint, but it's not too bad, and she was the only one at the Target I went to so I'm not too bothered about that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Outfit:
I love Michelle's outfit! Her dress especially. It's kind of 60s and retro-futuristic, which is super cool. I'm not in love with her jacket, but it balances out the orage in her hair and dress. I just don't really like how it fits. The sleeves are a bit too long and the hood is way to small to be worn, which makes sense because of her giant head, but it just looks kind of weird and I wish it wasn't there in the first place. But the jacket is important, because without it her hair and dress start to blend together into one orange blob. I love the cutout in her dress, It's super cool. And her SHOES! Her shoes. I can't believe shoes like these are on a PLAYLINE DOLL. They look amazing, but I have not tried to take them off and I don't think I will be able to. I'm fine with that because I'm planning to leave them on anyway, but they would be a nightmare for playing and restyling.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Accessories:
Michelle came with a phone, a phone case, a pair of earbuds, a drink, a makeup pallete, a pair of sunglasses, two coathangers, earrings, a belt, and four hairclips. My favourite is the phone, it's just too cute. I love the case as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Overall:
Michelle is a beautiful doll with a very strong and cohesive outfit. I'm not even bothered that she only came with one because the one she came with is so great. Her accessories are super fun and she was definetly a great purchase.
Rating: 9/10

Haven’t been able to update about it here bc I’ve been a bit busy bUT!! My Eve and E-Male (and extra webmaster) dolls arrived last week
:-D
Tumblr media
Will post some detail shots and a review under cut :-)
So first off, Webmaster and E-male both have their original face slips and Eve doesn’t, however Eve and E-male also both have an extra thin shiny plastic screen cover inserted into their faces, which neither this Webmaster nor the one I got originally have. I have yet to try and take any of these out as their head plastic is very inflexible, but I will be trying!
Tumblr media
Getting E-male has also allowed me to finally see what his tattoo is, and it’s a blue mail box baybeee!! Very very cute.
Tumblr media
Next, I found out Eve’s jacket can actually be unbuttoned, which is super cool!!! And her shirt underneath is also very cute, and I love that they have that detail there at all! It easily could’ve been sewn on, and I wouldn’t have thought anything of it. However I won’t be unbuttoning much as the coating to make her jacket shiny is old and somewhat flaky, and it’s a bit hard to get the button out and back into the hole. The bags on her hands ARE sewn on, however.
Tumblr media
Lastly, I discovered a… very interesting height difference between E-male and this Webmaster…
Tumblr media
I’m not sure if this is a production difference between webmasters or a constant as I have not taken my other WM down to check, but I plan to do a separate post with a side by side comparison of the two, as the paint on this WM is a bit more flecked off, so that will b coming in the future as well!! :-D
I’m so so excited to have these guys and am looking forward to getting to display them along with the others I plan to add to my roster. Wahoo!!
(ID in ALT for all)

Silly request but could you do a review on the Substitute Doll? This is only partially a joke
Tumblr media
The substitute doll is probably just meant to be representative of autotomy in Pokemon or something, but I do appreciate that it's well-designed despite that. It looks very vaguely like A Pokemon, all right, but it does a good job of not actually resembling any one specific species (I guess if I had to pick one it would be Bulbasaur, but it lacks the bulb and has different markings). I feel like nowadays GameFreak would just make it resemble Pikachu or something boring like that.
The other thing the substitute doll has going for it is that it's cute as well. If some wild animal threw this thing at me as a distraction I would 100% fall for it no questions asked. Good design even if it's a bit nonsensical in-universe.

the main thing that didnt hit for me w barbie was "can we please have a NORMAL barbie?? she's just like. a normal person. not perfect or extraordinary" bc when i was growing up w barbie, she always was a normal woman. she was pretty and smart and capable, but she was a normal person. and i guess a big disconnect there is that i grew up with the animated movies.
maybe seeing her make mistakes and be selfish and scared and hasty and mean (watered down, dont get me wrong), as is necessary for a halfway decent protagonist, made her less of a monolith in my mind. i saw her fall on her butt ice skating, and be an awkward confused teenager in a kinda lame garage band, and get laughed at and bullied by others but come out okay. it was the style at the time to make your protag clumsy or unskilled as a starting point (so that theyd have SOME flaw, SOMEWHERE to grow).
it's the same thing for the whole body type deal. i know she's a plastic fake doll. i didn't associate my body with hers until well meaning adults told me to, and even then it's like comparing yourself to a cartoon character.
don't get me wrong. i am only one person with one life experience. and i am so so grateful for any improvement and any discussion that leads to a better experience for someone else.
i just dont personally relate with considering her so literal

Ch209 (p4), The queen of tragedy
⚠️ Long post ⚠️
You might be wondering where that heading comes from. I'll get to that in a bit....
So, we are back to recent events, where Finny and Doll fight over Snake, each one claiming the other is the enemy. Both parties are involved in deception; he wonders why they helped him but lied the entire time. Out of the circus troupe, he seems to have been closest to Doll, and she never told him the truth about the circus. He also becomes particularly close to Finny, who immediately likes his snakes, but Finny doesn't inform him about the true fates of his circus friends. Then there're our earl and Sebastian, who lead him to believe the circus members are still alive and just on the lamb.
Tumblr media
Why would the people closest to him all lie to him?
Then we get a couple scenes before his and Finny's assignment begins.
Tumblr media
But this flashback switches from what Snake is recalling... to what a reaper is reviewing. Born March 15 -- the Ides of March -- to an actress named Sarah Kemble. More on her at the end. Death on December 9, 1889, from blood loss.
Tumblr media
The expression on this (new to us!) reaper's face makes me wonder what he's thinking. He says "no additional remarks", but I believe he's thinking some additional thoughts.
Tumblr media
He must realize there's something odd about Doll, who is holding Snake's body and grieving over him. Doesn't he realize she's a bizarre doll? Has he not taken note of the blood transfusion equipment in the room down the hall? What about all the veins popping up all over her body? Hasn't he been informed about the search for Undertaker and his moving corpses?
Does he not yet have info from Othello regarding Layla/Al? We have to keep in mind that this is all probably happening around the same time that Ronald and William are taking Layla/Al into custody, so this reaper might not be fully informed and so might not know what all signs to look for.
Besides, Ronald is sent to Norfolk ahead of the impending deaths, because there was word a bizarre doll is stationed there. He just has to figure out which person it is. Ronald can't tell who the bizarre doll is just by looking, so he has to wait and see who starts acting like one.
This reaper apparently isn't sent to investigate FOL Orphanage, suggesting HQ didn't have similar intelligence regarding a bizarre doll there. If he's not looking for one, he might not bother to take much notice of Doll's appearance or the medical equipment.
Everything is happening at about the same time:
Mey-Rin and Ran-Mao are heading to their next meeting spot while Polaris makes his report to real Ciel and Undertaker. Heathfield is arrested, and the legal investigation there is still underway.
Ronald and William are dealing with Layla/Al, with the intention of taking her back to HQ for examination. Baldo, Lau, and the others are still planning their getaway; they have not yet escaped the sanatorium.
Othello is probably at HQ, working out the finer details of the transfusion machine he has just recently confiscated from the underground facility at Bath. Beyond that, the dove he sent back to HQ might be the only call for help he's requested to deal with Undertaker.
And this reaper is (as far as I can tell) just responding to the assigned task of collecting souls from Snake, Susan, and the head matron. He really might not be in the loop about Undertaker and his moving corpses... just yet.
This gives an easy setup for him to go about business as usual and leave Doll to her grieving. If he doesn't confront her and just leaves, she can ask Undertaker to turn Snake into a bizarre doll -- even if it's just to be her companion. Undertaker would see old goals of revenge in Snake's cinematic records and could potentially turn him against the Phantomhives, through creation of his "episodes" by cherry-picking the memories and goals that would compel him to seek that revenge again. If that happens, we could get Snake confronting our earl and Sebastian... where Sebastian fulfills the implied threat he makes (to Baldo, about any servant who turns against their master) in ch51.
So, there's that.
Then we have a couple other things to discuss: the current date and Snake's mother.
It's December 9, 1889. This works great with my Mother3 theory, which states the contract should end before our earl is officially 14 years old. December 13, 1889 is the eve of that birthday, and it's also a Friday the 13th. This is highly symbolic because of when his father is born and when his paternal grandmother dies. I'm sure there are absolutely zero coincidences in this.
We will go back a few days (again) for the start of our earl's and Sebastian's assignment in Brighton, then we will catch up to December 9th with them. During this time and soon after, they will receive word about the other three assignments, as word trickles in. Or perhaps they are bombarded with all the reports in quick succession. Then we've got another four days for them to finish not just their own assignment but also their contract. Perhaps their assignment finishes around the same time as the others. If so, they have three or four more days to address whatever they have learned.
Now onto Snake's mother. She's based on a real person, or a combination of a few people in a notable family. My own initial research pulled up a Fanny Kemble, who was a British actress who lived in this time period but was too old to be Snake's mother. She bore a daughter named Sarah (Kemble) Butler, but Sarah wasn't an actress. Fanny was well known as a former actress and an abolitionist -- who separated from her husband (Butler), partly over disagreement about slavery -- and returned to the stage, where she renewed her focus on the works of William Shakespeare... performing public readings of his plays.
Discussing the chapter in Discord, I got word -- from @mjmj2994 -- about a Sarah (Kemble) Siddons who was an actress, though she was from the mid-18th to early 19th century. Her mother was also a Sarah Kemble. Turns out that Sarah Siddons (née and a.k.a. Sarah Kemble) was an aunt to the Fanny Kemble I'd found! Small world, eh? Anyway, Sarah Kemble/Siddons (wiki article here) became known as the "queen of tragedy" for her portrayal of Lady Macbeth and other Shakespearean tragic characters -- including numerous cross-dress performances as Hamlet himself. Even though Yana-san would have to change the timeline to fit our Sarah Kemble, this is most likely the historical reference for her. Here's more information about the Kemble family line and their extensive involvement with the acting industry.
Our Snake comes from an esteemed family of actors, and I suppose we are to assume he's an issue who was so quickly covered up and forgotten that he was perhaps never even named. Who was his true father? And how did he come to have such strong snake-like traits? We might never know.
Now we wait to see if this reaper does anything about Doll. And then onto our earl and Sebastian in Brighton!

If I had a nickel for every movie I saw in March of 2024 about lesbians, cars, and dead guys, I'd have two nickels.
Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.

Opening and reviewing my first Australian Girl doll
Tumblr media
She spent more than a month in a box, making her way halfway across the world to her new home, and now here she is! I'm so relieved that she arrived safely. It was the longest I've ever had to wait for a doll, and through much of her journey I didn't know where she was or when she would be here.
I don't want to drop too big of a spoiler, but listen to this........ she was so worth the wait, and the money. This doll instantly won my heart with how exquisite she is in every way.
Australian Girl dolls were specially made for Australian children, by Helen Schofield, a grandmother who loved dolls. She created the brand when she couldn't find an age appropriate doll that was locally available or good quality. So she created these dolls to help children feel pride in Australian culture, while teaching them about friendship and empathy. There are five girls to befriend--Amy, Jasmine, Emily, Bronte, and Matilda, each representing a different region of the country, ethnicity, and lifestyle.
The company itself has quite high standards. They strive to reduce waste in their product packaging, and they use a factory in China that treats its workers humanely and does not use child labor.
Tumblr media
If you've been around my blog for a while, you know how much I love collecting diverse brands and types of play dolls, especially international dolls. Also, this one will be extra special because I actually have an Australian grandmother--she's also a doll collector, and I'm looking forward to showing her my new doll the next time I see her.
After the cut, I'll show you who she is, and talk about why I chose her. I'll compare her with similar-sized dolls as well, and have her do some dressing up.
Before we get to the unboxing, let's check out the little goodies included with my doll.
Tumblr media
First is a little pamphlet explaining why the dolls are special, but also represent real girls growing up in Australia.
Tumblr media
There's another pamphlet about how to care for your doll.
Tumblr media
All of the dolls come with a fun freebie: this cute pair of thongs.
Tumblr media
Another freebie (a $30 AUD value) is this very sturdy doll carrier with pockets for accessories.
Tumblr media
I also bought a pair of sneakers for my new girl. I figured her feet would be a bit larger than my other dolls, and these are cute, so she now has three pairs of shoes to wear.
Anyway. Enough of the small stuff. Let's let her out of the box.
Tumblr media
It's Amy from Adelaide!
I chose Amy after three entire years of being indecisive and going back and forth on exactly which Australian Girl I wanted. They're all equally adorable, so I picked Amy because her personality seems very sweet, and I love that she has mixed heritage. According to the Austrlaian Girl dolls website, Amy's family tree is a mix of Aboriginal and Dutch on her mother's side, and English and Indian/Fijian on her father's side. Very representative of modern Australia!
Tumblr media
I have no regrets. She is perfect!!! Just the most charming little angel. I am officially WOWED.
Tumblr media
I'm seriously impressed at the superior quality of her construction. I understand why she was priced a bit higher than similar dolls. She is, from head to toe, beautifully made, with so many sweet details. Her dress and shoes are also impeccably made and feel very durable.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Her hair is flawless. It's a Kanekalon wig with loose curls, in a gorgeous shade of brown. Her eyes open and close. She has both painted and attached eyelashes.
Tumblr media
She has a gap between her big toe and the next toe, so she can wear her sandals and thongs.
Tumblr media
Her elbows are dimpled and she has subtle blush color on parts of her skin, including elbows and hands.
Tumblr media
She has a crease across her palm.
Tumblr media
She has articulation at her shoulders, hips, and neck. Her limbs, head, and shoulders are vinyl, and she has a huggable soft tummy. I don't really have a strong preference for either cloth torsos, vinyl torsos, or half and half like Amy. They all have pros and cons. This specific construction is nice in that she can wear low-neckline clothes without showing a cloth body, but it does make her harder to repair in case she has to be fixed.
I have a pretty good idea of what she'll be wearing when she's ready to change out of her pink party dress.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first photo shows her in a dress I made. The second is a Maplelea dress and hat. The rest are all American Girl brand clothing, except for the shoes. Amy can comfortably wear most stretchy clothes by AG and similar brands like Our Generation, but her feet absolutely will not fit AG, OG, or Maplelea shoes.
Tumblr media
The exception to the clothes is some of the tighter pieces. This AG shirt did not fit well. Amy's shoulders are a bit more broad than smaller dolls, and so without some extra give this is too tight.
Tumblr media
Amy is 20 inches/51 centimeters tall. Here she is next to my Our Generation doll Jordana. I'm using an OG doll because they're actually available locally in Australia. Whereas American Girl dolls, which I usually use when I compare brands, have to make an overseas journey. So it's only fair that I consider any Australians reading this now who are wondering how Amy compares.
Tumblr media
Amy is tall, but not the tallest doll in the family! Here she is next to Fernanda, my Karito Kids doll, who is about an inch taller although slimmer. Karito Kids dolls are in fact just slightly skinnier than American Girl dolls, so they have a much easier time sharing clothes.
In conclusion, I highly highly recommend this doll. She's absolutely sublime! I'm so thrilled to have her here, and I'm looking forward to having lots of adventures with her.
Obviously I'm far from Australia, but my Amy will still live her life as if she were in a suburb outside of the city of Adelaide. I've been looking at pictures of the geography of the state of South Australia, and there are some places in the mountainous parts that look pretty similar to the desert southwest where I live. So Amy will have no idea she's actually in the USA. Don't tell her the truth!

G3 Hissfits Review Part 2
I covered Toralei in the first post, now time for the werecat twins!
Tumblr media
First up: G3 Meowlody. She has a super sweet face and a new face sculpt (both her and Purrsephone do).
Tumblr media
She looks a bit different than her animated counterpart.
Despite her G1 counterpart being the colder one, G3 switches it and has Meowlody be the sweeter (and a LOT MORE naive) of the two.
Tumblr media
Taller boots, no extra body stripes, her hair is longer, and she doesn’t have the bracelet.
Tumblr media
She has a lot of separated clothing pieces. I was certain the tube too was going to be attached to her shirt underneath (which snags REALLY easily on the Velcro). Her skirt is a call back to her G1 doll, but I wish they would not have mixed the red and pink colors again.
Tumblr media
Here are her accessories. A yarn ball earring, a studded earring and a cute little bell necklace (I love this).
Tumblr media
Her boots are really cute! Look at the cat ear buckles and the little yarn ball shoe-laces. I love these more than her animated counterpart’s.
Tumblr media
The bottom of shoes have “Meow” for Meowlody and a cat laying down on the other. Now Purrsephone’s turn.
Tumblr media
She is totally my favorite. I love her outfit, her boots, her hair style, the colors they used for her, her face sculpt. So good. She is much friendlier than her G1 counterpart (who was already the friendlier of the two in G1), but is more serious and snarky Meowlody.
Tumblr media
Her animated counterpart has more white stripes, more detailed shorts, her boots have more paint on them, longer socks, and her sleeves are a different colors and wider.
Tumblr media
Here are her clothing pieces (a bit less than her sister’s). I quite like all of them and their limited color pallet.
Tumblr media
Her jewelry! Lots of simple hoops and then a cat paw with claws necklace.
Tumblr media
More cute boots. I like the little cat head front and the stripes in the back.
Tumblr media
The soles have “purr,” short for Purrsephone and another cat laying down (to match her twin).
Tumblr media
Yup, no extra body stripes, which is a shame. They also don’t have toe claws (boooo) like Clawdeen/Toralei/Catty and they have the exact same tails as Toralei (I was hoping that they would flip one of theirs so they could hold tails like their G1 counterparts). Their tails are not removable. Their body type is the exact same as Cleo’s (minus the bandages), while Toralei has the exact same as Clawdeen’s.
More under the cut!
I wanted to switch some of their clothing around to see if I liked it better.
Tumblr media
First I switched their shoes to see if having shoes that match more of their color scheme would make me like Purrsephone’s outfit more. Ehhhh……no.
Tumblr media
Then I switched their skirt and shorts…I don’t hate it!! Meowlody is trying to convince her sister to keep the red skirt.
Yup, they miiiight stay like this after I wash out their hair. Or I at least need to make a black skirt for Meowlody.
Now onto a quick look at the accessories the Hissfits pack comes with:
Tumblr media
That’s a lot of pieces!
Tumblr media
Many of these molds we have already seen, but they’re still cute and coordinated with what the dolls are wearing.
Tumblr media
More snacks!!! I like the little details they put on these. On mine, the stickers on the tuna and the water bottle will NOT stay on.
Tumblr media
Their paperboard poster. It’s even signed by the band mates and is not too terribly pixilated.
Tumblr media
They have three detailed hangers.
Tumblr media
The guitars got flipped molds of each other (so why couldn’t they do the same for their tails?!?). They are very light and very hollow, but have colorful fronts.
Tumblr media
My Catty (she’s still in the middle of getting a full head of micro braids). Is trying on the band’s merch and the shirt fits great! She might not give back that boa.
Tumblr media
Another look at the gym bag. It has so many details on it!! It has the Hissfits cat logo on one side (and a gold feather).
Tumblr media
And it’s curled up tail on the other side?!? I love that detail!
But my surprise favorite accessory was: the caboodle!
Tumblr media
It looks like a miniaturized Gorganizer!! It has all the sculpted detail! The top tray comes out and it snaps shut (but, the plastic hinge joint already has wear).
And finally, I wanted to do a quick comparison of both generations of werecat twins.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I really don’t know why they made them purple. :/ I would have enjoyed more stripes, and mirrored tails.
I appreciate the extra personality in G3’s face sculpts. And the lack of glue head (these ghouls need a LA’s Totally awesome head dunk).
G1 is more cohesive in their outfits though. My G1 Purrsephone is so wonky, hahaha. I wonder if Meowlody’s sweeter style and personality was inspired by the bows on G1’s shoes. They make it look like she’d be the sweeter ghoul (nope!).
Tumblr media
Anyways, a very quick and slightly rushed review of these long awaited dolls because I COULD NOT WAIT!!

i interrupt your regularly scheduled feverish octoposting to bring you a doll post again
today’s doll is faboolous pets cleo, who target had clearanced for half price. i got her for 12.50. this is my first cleo de nile! now with her, i have at least some version of all of the main 5 ghouls. there’s future cleos i’m waiting for that i was more excited for than this one, but because she was on clearance i decided to go for her
Tumblr media Tumblr media
once again i’m at home, no stands so back to using the star jar. here’s the front and back, without any accessories. without them, i wasn’t fully sold on this cleo, but as you’ll see later this whole look is carried by the accessories
Tumblr media
here’s all the accessories she comes with
-tut, her g3 pet
-hissette, returning to make her g3 debut (thank god)
-one selfie stick
-phone
-hissette bag
-two shopping bags
-to-go coffee cup
-tiny, easily losable ring
Tumblr media
obviously, the standout here is hissette. she’s actually wearable, and one of my favorite pets we’ve seen. glad to see her return after g3 has dogified so many character’s pets (including cleo)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
one of my favorite details on this cleo -both her and hissette have matching mini crowns
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
quick face card. this cleo has rainbow eyeshadow, which i think realizing, made me understand the vibe this doll was going for a bit more. she’s rainbow, and she has all of the colors. still would’ve liked i red lip i think, though.
Tumblr media
shoe check. holy shit these slay. the cat heels are you kidding?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
where this cleo really comes together for me is when she’s holding *all* her accessories. i feel like the outfit is so plain, but all of the accessories are so over the top that she needs to be posed with them to really sell this look. i’m particularly obsessed with the selfie stick
excited to take her back to the other ghouls when i go back to school from spring break! (and reunite her with frankie <3) dux doll post over, here’s the obligatory .5 shot

So as I’m looking at the dolls my coworker got me, I noticed that the Clawdeen they got me looks different compared to the one I got when they first came out.
Which isn’t a problem at all, I actually find it so interesting so I’m gonna talk about it lol.
Tumblr media
My original Clawdeen is on the left and the one my coworker got me is on the right. You can definitely tell there’s a difference just by looking at them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On the new doll- Her face is overall slimmer, her eyes are a darker shade of brown and her pupils are rounder rather than being kinda cat-like, her makeup is darker and bolder, and her skin tone and hair are slightly darker than the original doll.
This doll was made in Indonesia, I have no idea where my old doll was made because I didn’t think to check when I got her and that box is long gone in the trash lol. But I’m guessing it was either made in a different country or this newer doll is just an updated version of her core doll.
Either way, I like the new doll way better than the original!
It’s like they fixed everything that bugged me when she first came out lol. Her OG doll has always given me more Howleen vibes, but not she looks more like Clawdeen to me.

acne studios rtw spring 2o23, paper dolls .
“the palais de tokyo venue was carpeted a light pink, and here and there shell-covered candelabra stood at attention among a maze of beds covered in matching satin duvets and pillows. kylie jenner perched on one of the mattresses and the british rapper little simz on another. we were all guests at a wedding. acne studios’s johnny johansson said he’d been thinking about his own nuptials nearly 20 years ago; he’d been having regrets about his outfit, it was too safe.”
“his memories gave the acne team cause to produce their most dressed up collection since the swedish brand began showing here in paris 10 years ago.”
“‘weddings are kind of kitsch,’ he pointed out. surely, the pink satin bed sheet dress qualified. ditto for the pastel bows trapped between layers of lace and tulle, and the gingham suits with bra tops worn over the jackets, each cup boasting a blooming rosette. all that sweetness met its opposite in thrashed leather blazers trimmed with metal spikes.”

So I got two Decora Girlz dolls to test out, since hey, I'll support any brand attempting to bring J-fashion into Western dolls and they're quite cute. Luna reminds me of emo fashion that I admired as a kid mixed with decora elements. Decora herself looks a lot like actual decora kei outfits I've seen when browsing pictures for oc references.
The faces aren't my favorite, but the outfits are cute and the hair is well rooted. They come with a lot of stickers. I stole the clips for my own hair, because I wanted them lol. Not that anyone asked for my opinion. I'm considering getting the other Dolls since my birthday is coming up. But I gotta conserve room on my shelves so I'm not entirely sure. Still, I'm happy with my purchase.
