What if when ghosts - including Danny - enter that form with a ghostly tail it means they have to consciously be aware of their own physical appearance.

For actual ghosts it's not that big of a deal since most of them already have the disconnection from humanity that comes with death. Many of them have either been dead too long to remember what a human form should properly look like while others just straight up don't care, and for most, it's just subconscious and they don't have to really think about it.

But Danny's a little anxious about it.

On one hand, it means that he gets to play some really great pranks on Sam and Tucker, but on the other hand, it also means that most people end up terrified and starkly reminded that their local superhero is, in fact, just one of the many ghosts that he fights.

But I'm not talking huge differences in appearance - nah, I'm a fan of unnerving, pre-eldritch Danny.

So in the heat of the moment Danny slips up and his arms may appear just a little too long, his teeth a little too sharp, his body distorted just enough to make your hair stand on end. His eyes reflect in the dark and his Lichtenburg scars stand out a little too starkly against his bloodless pallor. His suit loses that hazmat sheen and dulls to a smokey charcoal black, looking far too tight, stretched to its limits against muscle and bone, fused with his skin.

His hands get a little too big and his victorious grin stretches a little too wide across his face.

Sometimes, in the heat of battle, if you get a little too close, you can see something reminiscent of burn scars crawling up his neck and across his jaw, wrinkling his lips and creeping higher with his anger. The flesh, web-like and raised, but just as colourless as his complexion. Scars that only those who'd been saved and clutched tight in Phantom's arms have ever claimed to see.

But only sometimes.

Most of the time Phantom isn't even scary in the traditional sense - just the extreme Uncanny Valley sense. Most of the time Phantom is sarcastic and quick-witted and almost charming. Most of the time.

Nowadays Danny's got a better grip on it. It doesn't happen often.

But when it does, the Fenton's claim that it's proof of Phantom's deceit, hiding his sinister nature and deceiving Amity Park. It's something his parents never fail to use to try and prove just how inhuman he really is.

Fun fact, I hc Walker as 6’6ft so I tried to convey him having to duck the doorframe as he goes apeshit.

I've been reading up on a ton of side effects that come with electrocution for my fic and it's been making me think about how some of the things can be used as a way for Danny to hide when his powers messed up early on, or I guess it could go hand in hand with a lot of the issues he had.

Like of course Danny would have trouble holding things like beakers and glass, muscle spasms, joint stiffness, nerve damage, tremors, dizziness and loss of balance. All of which can explain why he would trip and fall, and struggle to hold things. Who would immediately point at a struggling child that's recovering from electrocution and say intangibility! Because that sure wouldn't go well. Everyone knows he gets bullied, the bruises are easy enough to explain away and it's not like anyone would question him further on it. Especially with his loss of balance and clumsiness, it's an easy explanation.

Being alert all of the time in case a ghost attack? Simple, PTSD and anxiety (let's be real he definitely has those, probably all of Amity does at this point.) He wouldn't have to explain the accident because obviously, his brain blocked it out, he doesn't know why he was in the lab in the first place. Sam and Tucker are just as traumatized, watching their best friend almost die, no need to push for all of the details with traumatized kids when it's clear it was an accident.

His grades dropping? Well Reduced cognitive abilities, specifically verbal recall and attention span, on top of his Adhd that's a recipe for disaster. Can a heavily traumatized 14-year-old with a neurodevelopmental disorder really get punished for a drop in his grades? At the very least it explains why they have dropped and takes away the suspicion that he's out fighting ghosts, who would suspect that when he's clearly struggling with the effects of the accident.

Danny pulling away from his family? He's depressed and filled with anxiety and PTSD so why would his parents question it, the dark circles are just from long nights filled with nightmares and the inability to sleep, their baby boy wouldn't be sneaking out to fight ghosts in his condition. His self-destructive behaviour was the reason he's avoiding them, he needs to learn to come to them and accept help, for now they'll just leave him to it with small pushes and reminders they're there.

He gets uneasy around them because they always had their inventions and equipment with them obviously!!! He had just been involved in a huge accident involving one of their inventions, it's no wonder he gets so nervous when they malfunction and go off around him.

I have a hc that Jazz eventually gains a sentient shadow spirit similar to Bertrand and Johnny’s shadow (click for clarity)

The Shadow’s Abilities:

1) They’re able to shapeshift and change forms. This has limits. It cannot imitate non-living objects, they need to watch its target for a long time to be able to mimic it successfully, and it doesn’t have the ability to perfectly mimic a form. Something will always be wrong

2) Their true form is a swirling blob. Their eyes aren’t always visible but when they are, they’re green

3) They’re able to create portals. These portals need exact coordinates and an idea of what the location looks like, but they’re pretty versatile. The shadows can also hold items within its mass, with no known limitations

4) They can hide in any shadow! Jazz sometimes sends a little part of it to hide within the shadows of the people she loves so she can be alerted to any danger

5) When entering the shadow, there is a space where Jazz can see everything that the shadow sees

6) It can change its size

7) It usually hides within Jazz’s shadow, but occasionally, it will spread itself out in order to intimidate enemies or just to play with its surroundings

Fun Facts About the Shadow:

They go by they/it

It is as old as the Big Bang, since that was when light was first created and thus, shadow

It is one of the Ancients, however it is not one of the ones that sealed up Pariah Dark bc while they’re powerful against humans, they’re actually really weak against other ghosts

It is very friendly! They love humans but is deeply afraid of scientists and anyone who has a strong scientific curiosity towards it

It was captured by the GIW in the first few years of the organization being created

It likes taking the form of a dog/canine most of all

DP AU/HC where Jack and Maddie completely lose interest in Phantom once they discover he’s half-ghost-- because their interest lies in studying ghosts and Phantom is like a mutt at their purebreed Westminster Ghost Show

He has been skewing all of their data for years now. The Drs. Fenton have to start from scratch on so many things. They have so many documents to edit. How dare this HALF-ghost child get in the way of their important research

This scenario made even more ridiculous if they’ve also found out that Phantom is Danny. Even when ghostly, he can’t win his parents’ attention over ghosts.

Obsessions

For ghosts, Obsessions are what they exist for, it's their last thought before they die. Or in other words, their obsessions are more like sentences that they believe in heavily rather than a single concept. Ghosts can control which aspect of their obsession they fulfill and the way that they fulfill it.

For example, Danny's last thought before he died was to 'help people discover the unknown'.

While it's more satisfying for a ghost to fulfill their Obsession to the fullest, it makes them more vulnerable to being manipulated if someone else figured their sentence out. That's why it's taboo to ask a ghost what their Obsession is.

The Ancients are known for very little, even what they're known for is completely different/misleading than what their Obsession actually is. Same goes for the ghosts Danny usually encounters. Even the Box Ghost is careful about it (it's not box, it's being respected for a job that protects precious things. That's why he ends up being into boxes and wrapping paper. And when his daughter gets born, his Obsession wraps into being respected as the best ghost dad)

For Danny, his circumstances has forced him to latch onto 'help people' as his main aspect (and on occasion, simply 'help'), and fulfilling it by protecting Amity Park, his friends and family from any danger. He can fulfill his Obsession in other ways without any violence, and he casually fulfills the second half 'discover the unknown' with his interest in space and his exploration of the GZ.

His desire to be accepted at NASA is what fulfills his Obsession completely

AU where ghosts attain the right to exist after a pro-ghost propaganda censorship law means that Paulina’s 200k Phantom x Reader strangers-to-lovers slowburn gets deleted and Casper High get so collectively mad about it that they literally riot in the streets. Danny is saved from corrupt government forces by the power of weird prose about his ghost-eyes and Y/N’s inability to just hold his damn hand. It’s like if My Immortal permanently altered the course of human rights activism. 

When it first gets deleted Tucker calls Danny at like 6am yelling about how it’s gone- and on the one hand, the GIW having the power to enact laws like that is kind of terrifying. But on the other hand, it’s So Funny that the first thing they did with that ability was get rid of some teenage girl’s Phantom fanfiction. (“I mean, if you think about it, that’s as ‘pro-ghost’ as you get.”)

-he knows spanish and french (and esperanto bc of wulf)

-fuck it, he probably speaks like japanese or smt bc he was fighting a ghost that didn’t speak english or he was trying to research a ghost but the only things on it were in a language that isn’t french/spanish/latin

-probably didn’t get into different languages until Vlad insulted him in french/spanish and danny only learned it so he could understand and insult back

-then he got really into languages

-he definitely swears in different languages under his breath

-yells things at ghosts in different languages to throw them off guard so he can attack

DP hc that Danny trolls YouTubers. Those that make exaggerated obviously fake videos to entertain kids. He'll go up to them while they're filming and do something absolutely impossible, then just leave. The YouTuber who knows they didn't stage anything freaks out, but nobody ever believes them.

Phantom's hazmat suit doesn't look anything like the one Danny wore before the accident.

Many high-level hazmat suits are made from rubber - which doesn't make sense if Danny died from the electrical shock in the portal. BUT, it turns out that while rubber is a great insulator for electricity, like most things, it's only effective to a certain point. You can still get hit by lightning while wearing rubber. Danny got hit with enough energy to tear a hole between dimensions - which would be way more than his suit could handle, hence why he died. Plus the Fenton's didn't have proper access to ectoplasm until after the accident so they wouldn't have been able to make a suit better suited to withstand any kind of energy from the Zone.

Now, I like to imagine Danny's zap to have been more like a lightning strike than a regular little electrical shock. Lightening produces enough energy that it can even heat the air surrounding it and people who've been hit by it can suffer severe burns - internally and externally.

Rubber shrinks when exposed to heat. I have personally never liked the whole concept of Danny's suit looking the exact same before and after, just with the colours reversed. Like, it's not far-fetched to assume that the Fenton's made their own suits, including Danny's. It would mean that Phantom looks the exact same as their son in his hazmat suit, just with a different colour scheme - which is way too on the nose for me.

So, I propose that the Fenton's hazmat suits look more or less like regular ones, just colour coded and a bit more tailored to their wearer - so not as baggy and a bit more fashionable.

But Phantom's suit is skin tight - shrunken and fused to his skin after the immense heat endured at his death. It doesn't look like the Fenton's design and it doesn't look like your first idea of a hazmat suit.

Phantom's suit is tight enough to be mistaken as his skin - until you get up close and can make out a perplexing hexagonal pattern that's unique to the Fenton design

The soles of Danny's shoes melted from the heat and now Phantom leaves no footprints in his wake.

Phantom's skin has an almost pearlescent glow - not nearly as bright as the other ghosts. Lichtenberg scars are caused by bursting blood vessels and the glow that seeps from beneath his skin is almost enough to conceal the spidery scars that creep along the left side of his face, over his lips and the bridge of his nose, disappearing into his hairline and beneath the collar of his suit.

His suit is the colour of charred soot and ash - a stark contrast to his pristine accessories and colourless hair. When he flies in the dead of night, high above the streets of Amity, he almost looks like a shooting star.

So, yeah, I’m giving Walker three dogs that turn into Cerberus and love him very much. Despite Walker retiring them after hiring Bullet, there are occasions where he does bring them out to catch the worst and most elusive prison escapees or criminals.

So eons and eons ago,, ghosts were left to drift aimlessly on earth and the GZ without guidance which caused general mayhem for both the living and the dead. It was chaos. But a ghost who had lived in that Chaos and Disorder had died with a deep Obsession with CHANGING THAT

Enter: King Lark who’s ascension to Power was earned all post mortis. He was Obsessed with keeping Order and for a long time this aided him in his quest to unite the restless dead. BY HIS SIDE his faithful friend Thraal who handed the technical side of his rule. To help him rule Thraal made him the the crown and ring

They implemented Rules to the ghost zone that prohibited ghosts from crossing over to the mortal realms. And for a long while it was going pretty well

Except even after tightening his iron fist hold on everything in the GhostZone his core would ache to Fix the source of chaos (the continued existence of living things that would keep making more things that would also die) and so to rectify this he was all like oh yeah ok so if I kill every living thing on earth then no more problem :) WHICH IS BAD

and the ancients who were kinda pretty chill with everyone being chill in the GZ absolutely drew the line at fucking up the balance between the realms so they were like eeeehg put him in tha box. AND THEY DID

And now his friend Thraal (who over the years has been treated less like a dear friend and more like a Thrall) who had always had a sort of Obsession with following Lark (now pariah dark) like a good little sheep- has been going a little crazy waiting for Pariah to get out of his timeout box

DP AU/HC where Danny just kind of loses interest in space the moment he sees the Ghost Zone

Like the GZ is this giant, endless expanse of portals and infinite realms. There’s so much potential to explore, and it’s all at Danny’s fingertips. All he needs to do is pick a direction and fly. 

It’s also not as empty and lonely as space (at least not in its entirety). There’s life (ironically), ecosystems, people. Entire worlds to visit and learn about, and people there with stories to tell.

I just really like the idea of Danny as a kid being enamored with exploring space-- but then learning there is a place filled with even more wonders, and it’s a place he feels he belongs. Especially once Danny becomes king, and the Ghost Zone becomes not just something to explore and discover, but a responsibility that he takes with pride.

I think it makes for an ironic sort of reversal. Interest in the cold blackness of space before his death-- and interest in a realm teeming with spirits, a “life” of its own, after his death.
