Marvel Announces "Blood Hunt" Tie-In Series

Marvel's "Blood Hunt" event kicks off in May 2024 and the publishing company has announced three tie-in limited series as well as an anthology tie-in. Spinning out of Jed MacKay and Pepe Larraz's main Blood Hunt series are Black Panther: Blood Hunt, Union Jack The Ripper: Blood Hunt, Dracula: Blood Hunt, and the anthology series Blood Hunters.

In Cheryl Lynn Eaton and Farid Karami's Black Panther: Blood Hunt, the recently exiled and even more recently turned vampire T'Challa returns to Wakanda. T'Challa will struggle between his desire to protect his people from his new brothers and his own thirst for blood. "Threatening his legacy as king as well as his deep connection with the Panther God, T’Challa reluctantly embarks on a quest from the vampire overlord to find an ancient power. In the process, he’ll unearth long-buried secrets about Wakanda’s own secret history with creatures of the night." (Marvel Comics)

Black Panther: Blood Hunt #1 (of 3), featuring a cover by Andrea Sorrentino, goes on sale on May 29, 2024.

Cavan Scott and Kev Walker's Union Jack The Ripper: Blood Hunt, finds Joey Chapman, aka Union Jack, as a one-man vampire killing machine, with his trusty Webley pistol, a medieval longsword, and grenades. "Union Jack’s solo mission will place him at war with a specific brood of vampires targeting his homeland, all led by a mysterious villain known as the Hunger!" (Marvel Comics)

Union Jack The Ripper: Blood Hunt #1 (of 3), featuring a cover by Ryan Brown, goes on sale on May 15, 2024.

In Danny Lore and Vincenzo Carratú's Dracula: Blood Hunt, teams up Dracula with Brielle Brooks, aka Bloodline, daughter of Blade. These mortal enemies may find their interests briefly aligned.

Dracula: Blood Hunt #1 (of 3), featuring a cover by Rod Reis, goes on sale on May 8, 2024.

Blood Hunters is a four-issue anthology series that will spotlight various characters and their adventures during the "Blood Hunt" event. Mark Russell and Bob Quinn's story shows Hawkeye joining with a group of civilians. Christos Gage and Javier Garrón's tale has an-Wolf and J. Jonah Jameson having some father-son bonding time while fighting for their lives.

In addition to the one-shots, Blood Hunters will also feature a multi-part story from Erica Schultz and Bernard Chang in which Dagger, separated from Cloak, who is m.i.a., is in search of new allies to form the Blood Hunters.

The June 18 entry makes me realize how hunting to consume life happens through luring.

The old Count in a letter where he addresses Jonathan as "My friend", lures Jonathan into his house with the enticing job offer, and traps him in, to be kept in a tight space for a time until he's ready to be fed on. To renew his youth, to live and keep feeding on life.

Renfield does the same with the animals. He puts sugar on the threshold of his window so flies can be lured in his cell, keep them for a while, until they are ready to be consumed (and then the spiders that eat flies, and so on). To negate the effects of aging, to live and keep feeding on life. Zoophagous means life-eater (ζωή+ -φαγία)

Her white nightdress was smeared with blood, and a thin stream trickled down the man's bare breast which was shown by his torn-open dress."

Top right: "Her face was ghastly, with a pallor which was accentuated by the blood which smeared her lips and cheeks and chin; from her throat trickled a thin stream of blood; her eyes were mad with terror. Then she put before her face her poor crushed hands... and from behind them came a low desolate wail".

Bottom left: "She shuddered and was silent, holding down her head on her husband's breast. When she raised it, his white night-robe was stained with blood where her lips had touched, and where the thin open wound in her neck had sent forth drops."
