Hello! I’m just here bc I’m a little confused on what you meant by Smythe drawing out “each individual asset” when she was making comics? Now, granted, I can see that it made her file ginormous, but me personally as someone who knows nothing about making online comics but is really wanting to get into it (and also as someone who has a ‘too many layers’ problem myself), is there a way to avoid using too many layers?
My current way of making comics has been to draw the panels individually and then format them (which I know is terrible management wise and also messes with the quality) but I honestly have no other idea of how to do it properly, and seeing how stunning Lore Rekindled looks, I don’t know how you would manage to put all that lighting effects and little details on the same layers. (But also I may be thinking of it wrong so I’ll let you talk qwq)
Ah I can actually give you a visual breakdown of what I meant by that!
Tumblr media
So in this you can see there are a TON of layers, and not even all of them are visible because some of them are stuffed into FOLDERS that have been left closed. BUT if you look REEEEALLY carefully-
Tumblr media
^^^ These layers right here? That's specifically Minthe from this panel in Episode 61:
Tumblr media
(the unique pose here makes it real easy to tell that this is the corresponding panel, you can see the matching body shape with the dark shading that's clipped to the base layer below it!)
So what this means is that Rachel didn't draw all her characters on one base layer, she drew every single character in every single panel separately. Now of course, she could merge all these layers together as working on separate layers helps make it easier to work on elements that collide separately (like one character being 'underneath' another character like Hades is here) but because she has all of those clipping layers with the shading already added in, she likely didn't merge them afterwards because that would actually create MORE problems (because if she merged the Minthe layer in with Hades, then the shading for Minthe that she painted outside of the lines would show up on Hades and then she'd have to erase it which is just a bunch of extra work).
You can also tell all these characters are on their own layer because the layer thumbnail EXCLUSIVELY shows those characters. A layer will show as much canvas length as it needs to cover what's in that layer, so if the thumbnail is only showing one character, that means there's NOTHING ELSE on that layer. If there were more elements on this layer than just Minthe, the layer thumbnail would look more like this:
Tumblr media
Now let's compare it to Rekindled's layers! I'll use a completed page to make it fair as we use a lot of extra layers in the post-production phase where we add the texture effects and glow and all that fun stuff, plus I'll even make it a more complicated page like that big nymph explanation spread from Episode 51:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So I'll break it down to make this make more sense:
BG 2 Copy (technically this is supposed to be BG 1) - Basically the panel shapes, what I'll do is mark out the panels with flat blocks and through that we'll add background elements in a clipping layer (usually done by Banshriek). Often times they'll do multiple layers to make the process easier and then merge them all together in the end. With these shapes operating as panels, it means I can just auto select the whole layer, invert the selection, and easily erase whatever's outside of it (such as the lineart and base colors that I put down afterwards). I could just use masking layers like I did in [AFTERBIRTH] but I find this way works better for the process of making Rekindled.
BG 2 - This is where we add objects / foreground elements. So stuff like furniture, interactables, anything that needs to be kept separate from the larger background to make it easier to work with. This can also include "floating" panels that need to be above other panels, such as this:
Tumblr media
All of the backgrounds are then nested in a folder for organization purposes (we also sometimes use clipping layers on top of those folders to apply extra effects over anything contained within that folder without affecting other folders, that's a common technique that Banshriek applies)
Then we get into our Characters folder:
BASE - This is where I do the majority of my work, all the characters in every panel on a page are flatted into this layer. Sometimes I do have to create separate layers to, again, make it easier to work with overlapping characters, but usually those layers will be merged before I go into the shading process. I simply shade on a single layer by using the lasso / magic wand tool to select my area for painting, the flat colors make it really easy to do that. Sometimes I need to create a secondary shading layer if I've put down dark colors that start to bleed into the lighter colors, but again, I merge when I'm done into a single shading layer. We also sometimes employ an Add (Glow) layer into the clipping set if we need a glow effect that's exclusive to the characters and doesn't travel outside of their base colors.
There's a (leaves) layer here that I used for the dryad because I needed the leaves to be above the base layer, after that I selected the leaves elements so that I could erase the lineart in the layer above it where needed.
Tumblr media
LINEART - It's lineart, enough said haha That said, I do think Rachel actually uses clipping layers for her lineart in places, it seems to be visible in some of her process videos where you can see the lineart present in a clipping layer, and that would explain why there are panels where the lineart suddenly 'cuts off' and doesn't travel outside of the base layer, like so:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
GLOW - This is where we do an Add (Glow) layer that isn't restricted to the base layer, it's where we add all the fun lil' glow and sparkle effects over the characters !
The CLOUDS layer is, like the leaves, a background element that needs to be above the base layers rather than constricted to the background.
Above the Characters folder you can see what I mentioned earlier where Banshriek has added more post-production effects that are exclusively clipped to the contents of the Characters folder. This means the effects / blend modes do NOT affect the background layers or anything above it.
The BLUR (Overlay) layer is something we just started doing over the past several episodes, it's a technique I actually picked up from 66 of City of Blank where I merge all the layers into a new visible layer which I then apply a Gaussian Blur to at around 60% and then set to Overlay (and then I adjust the layer opacity until it looks right, usually around 25-35%), it gives it a bit of a softer "dreamier" vibe in the final colors and really helps unify everything!
CANVAS - This is an Overlay layer which is also set to an opacity of 25-35% where I go over the panels with the Add Canvas brush from the Kyle Webster set, unlike the Canvas overlay texture in CSP I can actually choose the colors I want to use which means I can match the canvas texture color to the mood and environment of the scene (ex. I'll use a very light blue for scenes in the Underworld). Not only does it give it that signature texture from S1 of LO, but it also helps balance out the effects of the BLUR layer.
The SKETCH layer sits on top of everything and gets turned off once all the base layers and lineart are down, and ofc the SPEECH folder is just where all the text is kept.
I know everything I just laid out is a LOT but ultimately it's how we operate, it works for us! But it also begs the question of why Rachel operates the way she does because a lot of it seems extremely unnecessary and more likely to bite her in the ass (the more layers there are, the bigger your file size gets, the risk of drawing on the wrong layer increases as well as the risk of posting a panel that's missing elements because the layer was left turned off by mistake, etc.) And it's more so concerning with how she operates with her assistants because if she's still using this many layers when collaborating with other people, hooo boy. Though based on what I've observed of what her assistants contribute, I get a lot more of the sense that she circumvents this by having the artists do the flats separately and then importing them in as separate assets that she then just imports into the page and places them where they need to be. Still not a great workflow IMO because it's what's led to a lot of the issues of characters "floating" rather than feeling like they're actually in the environment-
Tumblr media
-but that's still an issue that could be solved by Rachel just taking more time to actually flesh out the backgrounds and lighting to give more of an impression of the characters actually existing in the space. Like that Hestia panel could easily be fixed by just giving the background a bit more detail and putting actual shading underneath her (and lighting from whatever direction it's coming from).
Either way, regardless of whether or not Rachel's process is productive or not, I hope that breakdown helps explain how we do it in Rekindled! Learning how to manage layers is definitely a skill that can be tricky to harness, but once it "clicks" there's a lot you can get away with. Ultimately how you do it is up to you, but my best piece of advice to offer is to just be open to other types of workflows because you don't know how much you might be shooting yourself in the foot doing things the hard way when there are often way easier and more efficient ways to get the same job done. That's basically the vibe I get from observing Rachel's workflow, it seems like she's still using methods that she thinks are working for her (and probably did work just fine for her when it was JUST her) but could be vastly improved for her and her team if she'd just get over the initial hump of stepping outside of her comfort zone. Would probably make for a better comic too LOL
I hope that helps! Good luck! ( ´ ∀ `)ノ~ ♡

Oh boy, my model and rig for Xeon are finally done! I've got a lot of info in this post, because dang it's been a journey haha.
Over the past month and a half I've built this lad, rigged him, put him into VRChat, made a 2D background to showcase him, and shot him out of a rocket in spite. Well, not really, but oh man sometimes I wish I could have. *wheeze*
The Xeon rig and model features a new rigging system, a better model, better organization, and a whole host of improvements over my last model of Medea. And dang, I'm excited to dive into em!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
First up is the lil fun showcase. Using the new rigging system, I did lots of fun poses! And I'm super happy with how the toon shader looks too. For his model, I focused on refining the topology and making the weight painting better. Noodle arms also helps a ton too! These improvements really helped get it looking as not 3D as possible hahaha.
Keep reading for more of the behind the scenes stuff!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes, this is a 2D background! Way back in the day I used to make backgrounds to showcase my finished models... but I kind of strayed away from that. With Xeon though, I decided to get back into making backgrounds, and instead of doing it in Blender- I drew it!
This is the first ever one I've publicly published, and only one of 3 I've ever done. I first laid out the perspective in Blender and the lined/colored it in Clip Studio Paint. The model of Xeon was rendered in Blender on a separate layer, then I dropped him in the CSP background.
There's defintiely some wrong things with my 2D background, but for the first colored one I've done, I'm pretty happy with it. Its all about practice, and as I gain more experience I hope to better refine the Blender perspective to 2D pipeline.
Tumblr media
This time for Xeon, I wanted to massively push my rigging skills. So with the help of Rigify, I've done just that. The rig for Xeon features a very advanced and customizable rigging system that allows me to pose him in so many different ways.
Oh and also, noodle arms and legs! That was a thing I've been meaning to add to my characters for so long, I just haven't known how to. But now with the new rig I can do just that!
As you can see below, the rig is also very user friendly. It's definitely complex, but it should be a lot more standard and a lot more user friendly.
I can't wait to add this rig to all my future models as well!
That's all I have for ya'lls today, I hope you all enjoy him!

As someone who makes fanvids and AMVs, I spend a lot of time looking at media in unconventional ways--cycling the same clips over and over again, jumping around in a non-linear fashion rather than watching straight through in chronological order, etc, etc. Usually, this is in service of getting shots to line up with the music or finding that one snippet that perfectly illustrates a lyric, but it also means I spend a lot of time engaged with the source material at a level of repetition and detail that most viewers do not indulge in.
I thought nothing would be able to top that level of granularity, but then I started making text post memes by juxtaposing media screenshots with clever and witty posts made by strangers on the Internet. Instead of watching the same clips over and over again, I was now watching specific individual scenes shot by shot, searching for the perfect frame to pause and screenshot. Suddenly, I was engaged with the source material on a whole new level, staring at stills I have never really looked at before, despite having watched them in motion a billion times already.
This was especially true of Madoka Magica and even more true for Rebellion, where the animators had lovingly incorporated whole new levels of detail I had never encountered before--some of them so complex and intricate, they could only be fully appreciated as stills, either because they were only on screen for an instant or because there was so much action/other stuff going on in the foreground that drew my eye when I was watching casually or for plot. (As much as I love subtitles, they did not help with this, since their presence meant my eyes were also naturally drawn to the bottom of the screen as well instead of focusing on the background.)
I started documenting my PMMM observations here on Tumblr, partially because it was low-stress and informal fun, and partially because this site has such excellent and convenient image hosting (for now, anyway) that it's really easy to discuss and compare multiple images at a time, which I think is more effective than reams of text at proving my points.
When I look at a screenshot, I have two major questions in mind:
1) What am I looking at? 2) What does it mean?
The first question is one of observation and identification. This part is usually straightforward, but can be more complicated if the animators are drawing on an element of Japanese culture that I'm not already familiar with. The answers to this question vary considerably depending on context, but they're usually not a source of tremendous controversy among the fandom; they are fairly objective, with a definitive right or wrong answer.
The second question, however, is more complicated and subjective. This is where analysis and interpretation come in--of the shot itself, the scene in which it occurs, and how it fits into the installment/series/franchise as a whole. It's entirely possible for different people to have wildly different takes on this, and multiple readings can and do exist simultaneously.
In my meta writings, I usually attempt to answer both questions: first, by pointing out details that I think are interesting, and then by offering my interpretation of them. Rebellion in particular is so visually dense that it's possible to randomly pause at any scene and find something new; no matter how much I watch it, there is always more to analyze.
To be clear, I don't think that watching Rebellion frame by frame is inherently better than watching the whole thing straight through, just that different perspectives and insights are possible. In this sense, both Madoka Magica TV series and Rebellion are inherently fractal in nature, with meaning multiple levels and layers regardless of scale. Unlike real-life fractals like the Mandelbrot set, however, there is a clearly defined limit to this--I doubt once you zoom into the pixel level there is anything to find, but hey, you never know with SHAFT.
I generally prefer to work with material that has already been released rather than stuff that hasn't, but I try to ground my predictions in my observations as much as possible--by which I mean, consistent with the show's themes and motifs on both a macro and micro level. That in itself doesn't guarantee that they're right, but I like to think they are plausible, which is all you can really hope for with that sort of thing. And of course, all my analyses and predictions tell you as much about me--how I see the world and what I value--as they do the work itself.
I used to joke that I was working on an honorary master's in media studies and Rebellion in particular, but after looking back at my output over the last six months, I'm not so sure that's a joke anymore...

tsukumo ryo for the character ask meme :3

BINGOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
In all honesty. When I first watched Third Beat I was so jawdropped by him and what he's doing and it made me irrationally scared to the point where I forgot about taking screenshots (i usually do so for future reference). and a month after I still caught myself thinking back to i7 because to me it was just another anime but HE was one of the characters that made me stay. He made me want to know what happens next So Much that I spent hours on wikis and websites searching more info on how to access more stories besides the anime. I AM SO NORMAL ABOUT HIM
and when I continued thinking back to him I found myself with the following thoughts: "evil. so hot." and "wow. he's like. proper disgusting. im intrigued!!!!" and by lords. when i first drew him on emotion it felt like an electricity jolt to my brain. I was never the same since. and I went back to rewatch Third Beat. and I read third part and fourth part and.
It's always a stage play and he's performing for everyone. If nobody's paying attention to him, he will point all lights to himself. But not in that way, pay attention in a different way. Love him, like him... If nobody likes him, then everybody shouldn't. If he is bad, then he should be the worst. If he wants something, he will get it. There are so many cracks within his fragile ego facade. And the only ones for him, the only ones he could peel this wrapping for, even if for a bit, are Riku and Momo. (and ZOOL in pt6)
I project onto him and make many headcanons because I can relate to a lot of his characteristics that CAN BE VERY MUCH MISSED BY THE AUDIENCE WITH HOW QUICK AND SUBTLE THEY ARE. or maybe im just catching myself in the "he's just like me fr" and starting to make things up You never really know with this sort of stuff.
There are two Ryous for me -- the bastard evil guy I want to impale and the Canonly Childhood Traumatised and coping with it in the worst ways possible (which is a recurring theme for characters in i7). I do feel like he gets a lot of hate because people (rightfully so) don't wish to delve deeper into his character because he serves as a good plot device even in his "irredeemably evil" state. I think that another layer of "sinister" gets placed on top considering that He Can Get Worse. it's always possible with the kinds of situations that a lack of regulation and help can bring and He Did Get Worse (ex: balcony scene)
The bastard evil guy is a good flavour of Ryou too because of the situations he can put others in. He's silly, unpredictable, evil, remorseless, sadistic, and absolutely unhinged. hes probably good in bed because of that but please disregard this whole sentence right now. everyone else is wrong and right about him because of how little we get of his screentime that is really about himself but THERE IS SOOO MUCH SO MUCH.
re: aesthetic, gender, design. awooga. 2/3 of my fave colours (orangeish yellow and purple), fave hairstyle (middle part), fave eyes (dead inside), fave frame (look at his back!) I WANT TO STEAL HIS GENDER. I LOVE THE murderous aesthetic I love the playhouse wife aesthetic i love the "i want to be the spoiled child" thing hes got going on . i love his outfits i love his expressions i love his moves i love HIS DESIGN. I FUCK WITH IT SO HARD PLATONICALLY WJAT AM I SAYING AT THIS POINT
Anyways. that was like. a fraction of my thoughts i just scrolled back up and realised ive been torturing you with my elder-scroll worth of text wall

On the note of that last reblogs tags i think we need to stop this trend of taking one part of somebodys story as a representation of the whole story. I think, instead of seeing someones problematic art and saying "oh they must have been a raging racist and a terrible person all the way down" we should take a moment to step back and ask "what happened after?" and even "why did he believe these things? What was the sociopolitical environment he was in? And how did that change when he was confronted with reality?"
Like, lets use dr suess as an example. He was a liberal democrat who opposed war and fascism during a time when anti-war wasnt a popular position at all and antifascism was only popular because it was the ideology of america's war enemy. And he supported japanese internment and drew some pretty racist cartoons. I completely understand why the second thing is bad, don't take me for an idiot or a defender of such actions, and im not saying you have to forgive that wholeheartedly and koombaya with him in whatever the afterlife is if you believe in that stuff, but I am saying that it's disingenuous to act like that was where his story ended regarding his racial views.
If you ask yourself why an anti-war, antifascist liberal democrat would be racist, you get a few answers: maybe he was an asshole, or maybe something about his sociopolitical environment was causing him to believe that racism was compatible with his political views. Either way doesnt change the outcome of said racism, but the latter posibility can be reached and changed if it's handled right, which is worth pursuing.
If you dig a little deeper into the why of his particular case, you'll find this quote: "But right now, when the Japs are planting their hatchets in our skulls, it seems like a hell of a time for us to smile and warble: "Brothers!" It is a rather flabby battle cry. If we want to win, we've got to kill Japs, whether it depresses John Haynes Holmes or not. We can get palsy-walsy afterward with those that are left."
Awful thing to say about an entire race of people. Makes you a bit sick to your stomach, doesn't it? But if you step back from your initial emotional response and peel back the layers here, you'll find that underneath the racism and prejudice, of which im not denying there is, he's basically saying "I think there is a direct enemy of freedom and liberty that needs to be squashed in order to protect others." Whether or not he was right or wrong doesn't change that that was what he thought and believed, which is a pretty liberal democrat position (even before the party switch) misdirected to an entire group of people whom their place in the war was not the fault of their race.
Dr suess was the type of racist who can be reached. It actually doesn't take a lot to do the reaching itself, the main work comes from whether or not the person is willing to accept that they were wrong and put in the effort to change their ways. Which, if you just end at that terribly disgusting thing he said about Japanese people, you don't see how he actually felt and acted at the end.
Do more digging and you'll find that when the war ended, he was confronted with the realities of japanese internment and how he once cried support for such a terrible practice. These people arent nazis by birth, they're just people being generalized with the actions of their government. Many were born and raised multi generation american citizens being treated like war criminals in their own home when they had nothing to do with the nazis overseas. (Sound a bit familiar regarding the social treatment of individual russians these days? That's a post for another day though)
Dr suess wasnt stupid, its also disingenuous to act like prejudice is a failure of intellect. He was a real smart guy, and after being yanked out of his bubble he completely overhauled his views and disavowed his previous statements and racism. And you also have to remember that he wasnt a politician, he was a childrens book author who did the occasional political cartoon. His power over these systems one way or another was always pretty minimal, but he did do what he could in his position: he wrote another book basically saying "I was wrong, and I'm deeply sorry. I see why I was wrong now" which was Horton Hears A Who. The one with the famous "A person's a person, no matter how small" line that was about remembering the humanity of those you're too disconnected or different from to see right away.
If you think thats too little too late, that's your opinion and you're entitled to it, but at least hold that opinion after knowing the whole story. And maybe don't end the judgement of people, especially historical figures, conveniently where the most rage bait can come from. Like I said, I'm not saying you have to love him and forgive everything he ever did just because he realized he was wrong and changed his ways, but I am saying that if you're going to judge somebody, you do in fact have to judge their whole character and not just the cherry pick the parts that make for the most outrage. Framing someone like dr suess as a full stop racist just isnt accurate unless you're talking about a very specific timeframe in his life. It's more complicated than that, regardless of how you feel about the racism itself, which isn't my place to tell you how to feel about.

Do you like to outline your fic first or create as you go?
Depends. When it's a one shot, I usually have the broad strokes of what I want to do, maybe a specific scene in mind, and usually pants it from there.
But for longer stuff, like Mortal Shell or Adagio in Green, those get outlines. In fact, Adagio now has one of the most extensive outlines I have ever done for a fan fiction. I drew diagrams and floor plans. The notes and ideas have their own notebook.
Like, look at this. This is just a small sampling of my layers of notes and outline and shit that I am doing to try and keep track of everything in Adagio.
Tumblr media
I love this fic but boy howdy...
Do you want to write something outside of fan fiction? If so, what about?
I have an embarrassingly large number of story ideas that I want to write and they're all fantasy/urban fantasy because I am nothing if not predictable. Whether I actually finish one of them or not well...
The only one that's really made it past the outline stage and is a partially written rough draft. It's called "A Box Full of Void" and I started writing it when I was in a really, really bad way. But it's weirdly hopeful and cathartic, despite the spooky themes and existentialism. Basic plot summary:
Cecil "Rabbit" Downs and his friends live in the city of Hollowfort. It's a normal city. Until it's not. It starts with a sinkhole opening up in a local cemetery, disturbing hundreds of graves with a hole that disappears into the black earth. And then things get worse. A theater is trashed, a construction site collapses, animals go missing or are found dead in awful ways, and there are eerie sightings all over the city. And then a body gets up at a funeral and attacks a priest. Things are going very, very, VERY wrong in Hollowfort. But Rabbit and their friends aren't looking to be heroes or save the day. They just want to survive.
And it's NOT zombies, before you ask. Or aliens. Anyway, it's got a little bit of body horror, a little bit of gore, and lots of my purple prose metaphor bullshit that I use to try and describe things beyond the scope of human comprehension. There's a little bit of romance, but mostly a lot of darkness and weird, slightly philosophical talks about mental health, the nature of "good and bad", and some weird dogs.
I've got a bunch of short stories too. I keep meaning to submit them to places but I either forget or chicken out at the last second....
Is there a favorite trope you like to write?
Looks at my Bad Things Happen Bingo. Looks at you.
Non-Consensual Body Modifications.
Especially if there's mad science, torture, medical horror/trauma, and painful transformations involved.
Again, I am nothing if not predictable.

for the ask meme, murderbot? ^^
! Thanks for the ask :D
I might have to muddle through this one since it's been such a long time since I first read tmbd but I will try my best! Some I couldn't answer because I just drew a complete blank kjdhfkd
My first impression: I sort of thought it would be a fairly like . . . chill? character like Data from star trek. Down to earth, interested in engaging with humans, etc.
My impression now: I think murderbot is such an interesting character. It has a lot of layers to it. One being "overwhelming social anxiety and anger" and another being "strong sense of right and wrong" and "desire to do the job they originally had but better with the freedom of no longer having a government module." My favorite part is that, despite being rough around the edges, murderbot is almost more personable than data despite not at all being designed for it. Also, it considers itself separate from humans with no interests in becoming more like a human.
Favorite thing about this character: I like how pragmatic it is without sacrificing the whims of its humans. Murderbot sort of builds it into the plans like "4 minutes to unload, 10 minutes for them to talk to the other human for no reason, 10 minutes to refuel," that sort of thing. (Even in its emergency planning.) All while being completely oblivious to its own needs (like talk to ART for 10 minutes for no reason) and getting frustrated with itself when it does stuff it doesn't understand the reason for.
Least favorite thing: Keeps accepting its death is inevitable before it's even inevitable yet!! Wish it would stop that >:(
Favorite line/scene: I appreciate when it gets a chance to do normal security work well. For me the whole series is a big mess of problems it has to fix just to go back to doing the two things it enjoys (serials and security work).
Favorite interaction that character has with another: First scenes with ART with the bickering while they watch serials together.
A character that I wish that character would interact with more: I'm a simple man, I just want more ART/murderbot interactions.
Another character from another fandom that reminds me of that character: Aizawa (BNHA) has a lot of important character traits in common with murderbot I think.
Favorite picture: Everything made by @tenowls

And here’s another thing:
I haven’t been nearly as active on here the past almost-a-year as I’ve been in years prior to that. And I am working on changing that, but there’s a marked difference, and it plays into how much I’m reblogged and my posts passed around, compared to in prior years. And I’m aware of that, but I’m trying to do better about being AWARE of that.
Because I’m not oblivious to how my own posts have impacted fandom over the years, for I am a vocal and persistent....person. Yeah, let’s go with that word. And its not like I think most of my posts were wildly off base now or anything like that - I like to think I’ve always been fairly good at making known when I think I made a wrong call or said something I didn’t mean or regret after thinking about it. But I am in a space now where I’m a lot more particular about how accurate or nuanced I am about various takes, especially ones that dig into the heart of the themes and stories that drew me to a lot of my fave characters in the first place.
However, lengthy, earnest rambles about thoroughly informed takes on every angle I see to a particular character interaction or story - when I tend to see a LOT of angles, and actually try to as my goal - let’s be real, these kinds of posts just do not take off and garner notes and reblogs to the same degree that punchy soundbites, aggressive defenses or accusatory call-outs about others in fandom do.
Not to mention...as much as shitposts or tongue-in-cheek jokes that are the extreme opposite of nuanced.
Sooooo.....its a bit......naive, sure, let’s go with that word, for me to expect that the posts I’m trying to be more thoughtful about these days, actually outpace the shitposts or un-nuanced jokes. And if I actually want the former to be more representative of my views than the latter, well, it doesn’t work to act like both kinds of posts are innately predisposed to be met with similar receptions.
All of which to say this is just kinda a personal blog maintenance post about how where my actual posting interests lie right now and why I’m trying to be more about the former than reactively posting stuff along the latter lines. And its A-Okay to ask me to clarify my position if the take I seem to be sticking with is decidedly lacking in the Nuance Department.
(Don’t get me wrong, I’m not taking a Vowing of No More Jokes or like, changing my sense of humor, lmfao, and I’m not saying that asking for clarification is always going to reveal a different layer or position. I’m one hundred percent interested in walking back that Dick and Talia stance to add more thoughtful dialogue to the conversation about them, but I’m equally clear that nah, that Jason post from the other day represented me accurately the first time around, even with tongue-in-cheek jokes included.
Its a case by case basis and thinking that yeah I definitely get it wrong some of the time doesn’t innately mean I’m gonna be like yeah no, mea culpa every time I get pushback. So....that’s not going to be A Thing. Just saying: This isn’t a promise that saying “I don’t like what you said” is gonna get me to disavow whatever I said that you don’t like, lol, it just means that if you’ve got a specific point of contention, I do want to take a second look at stuff I said to make sure I actually like what I said there, even in hindsight.)
Anyway, personal blog maintenance post was posted. Here endeth the post.

Ok so here was that outfit I was talking about.
Tumblr media
(Ignore his face. I messed up on the line-art on his face. In the 0.1% chance that Ateez sees this I apologize in advance.)
So anyway, let's break down what we're looking at here. This was an outfit that one of the Ateez dudes were wearing the other day while performing their song 'Cyberpunk'. Or at least, this is a drawing of him wearing the outfit. Since the group often has some intense choreo, and the suit was all black with various layers, it was a little confusing to understand what was going on until I drew it.
(That being said, I almost definitely got some details wrong, because I couldn't find out what the back of the suit looked like.)
For starters, anything shaded in with pencil is some sort of regular fabric, and anything coloured in with the marker pen is some sort of reflective-ish type of material. maybe leather, I dunno. Probably leather. It better not be that pleather stuff or else— (has to stop myself from going on a tangent)
Anywho, the base seems to be some pants (not too loose or tight) and a very low-cut tank top (relatively tight). However, there's an additional piece of fabric that goes over the chest of the tank top, effectively giving his chest more coverage. Not sure if this is only attached at the front, or it is it's own piece with a back to it.
Then we got these interesting-shaped shoulder things that seem to be holding up his plain emo wrist-warmers. Except his wrist-warmers are more like arm-warmers, going from the middle of his fingers to above his elbow. Strangely, the shoulder things don't seem to be tightly fastened around his arms, though? Perhaps they're attached to the tank top.
There is this thick leather-ish... belt? at the waist, somewhat high up, but not too high. Honestly I don't know if it's a belt, because it doesn't have buckles or any visible seam or zipper at the front.
Now for the coolest part of the outfit: 2 layers of a non-symmetrical half-skirt type of fabric, hanging from the sides of the top of the pants. These skirt-like fabrics also have straps of leather-type material, kinda like someone repurposed some old belts.
And of course, shoes. To be honest the shoes were pretty normal so I don't know what else to say about them. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Yeah, looking back, the outfit wasn't as complex drawing-wise as I thought. For some reason I originally got the impression that the top was made out of a lot more pieces of fabric. However, there's still aspects that are confusing me (like how those shoulder things didn't slip. Or how the leathery pieces hanging from the skirt-like fabric didn't become a tripping hazard. And most importantly: do his pants have pockets).

1K followers special
“how they’d non-verbally ask for a kiss”
fandom/s: 僕のヘロアカデミア // boku no hero academia (bnha)
includes: several characters
your name is shortened to y/n, gender neutral reader
notes: thank you for 1k!! aaa i can’t believe im really at 1k. inside of my head, i still think i’m at like what.. 200 followers? this milestone means a lot, thank you! also, there’s no proofread since it’s literally 3am here haha, will edit in the morning!
-
izuku midoriya
— BLUSH
as soon as he wants a kiss, his skin will heat up, and there’ll be a very obvious blush dusted on his face
izuku’s only worried about what to say, and the total approach. worried that he’ll come off as a total creep, and that he’ll scare you away. basically, he’s thinking about every single possibility of things going south. just thinking about it gives him a rather extreme case of butterflies in his stomach, the freckled boy doesn’t know how to convert his wants into words
lucky for him, you’ve noticed. he’s been pacing back and forth near your place for five minutes straight, and his terrible attempt at sneaking subtle glances at you only make his cheeks turn redder.
he’s totally embarrassed that he was standing around, staring into who knows what for the longest time, but he’s glad that you’ve noticed. at least he has his decent share of kisses now!
shotō todoroki
— BLUNTNESS
shotō’s incredibly blunt, and i mean that with all of my heart. he doesn’t really have an idea on how to dial down his bluntness, i mean.. no one has tried to socially correct him until his first year at UA. but, i may say that his bluntness does comes in handy at times.
he’ll tell you what he wants the moment you’re free of any sort of conversation, pointing at his lips with a certain look on his face. it’s practically a telltale of what he wants at that exact moment, and shotō won’t allow you to leave until you do plant a kiss on his lips. it fills him with satisfaction.
or, he might as well just say it, “give me a kiss first before you go,” “may i have a kiss?” “y/n, i want a kiss.”
he has no restrain so, you probably have to start getting used to it. it might look like he’s not the type to outwardly say stuff like that, but you’ll never know what to expect with shotō todoroki. you actually find it quite endearing
katsuki bakugō
— DEMANDS
well.. sorta. he really hates having to say the exact words that would have you all over him in a second, just because he can’t imagine himself living another day if he said ‘give me a kiss’
katsuki will stand infront of you, his eyes narrowing into slits, his glare’s intense. this action might’ve scared any other person away, anyone that wasn’t you anyway, but it only drew you closer. this action alone was actually really layered he only rolls his eyes when you ask him what he wants “you know what i want.”
he hates it when you ask him to say the ‘magic’ words. but in reality, that’s the only way he could get kisses pressed all over his faces until he’s satisfied.
but eventually, you decide to drop the entire teasing act, giving in what he wants without a thorough interrogation. but you must say, katsuki asking for kisses non-verbally is quite the sight. it’s new, compared to his usual self.
hitoshi shinsō
— BODY LANGUAGE
oo okay, let me explain. you know that thing where someone would lick their lips if they wanted a kiss? he’ll do EXACTLY that.
hitoshi’s great with speaking with body language, and his eyes too. one glance from hitoshi will have you hauled into another room for some sweet kisses. you’d assume that it was some sort of convenient attribute to his quirk but.. nope. it’s just hitoshi shinsō being an absolute magician. his actions managed to get you all flustered jadjsmdk
he’ll also do this thing where he runs the back of his hand along your back, whispering your ear in a very collected manner, even though his heart beat might say otherwise “you know what to do,”
hitoshi will rarely express what he wants verbally, because his body language and eyes speak a thousand words. but if you literally can’t get the hint, he’ll just say it upfront.
denki kaminari
— CHEESY PUNS
let me just get one thing straight, denki gets SO nervous just thinking about kissing you. i mean, it’s not in midoriya’s way for sure, but the idea alone is a total dream to him. however, he doesn’t know what to say in the moment? so, he says all of these puns he found online he’s not so suave
“kiss me if i’m wrong, but do i have a water quirk?” “i can’t taste my lips, would you do the honors?” “i heard kissing is a language of love so.. would you like to have a conversation with me?” PLEASE HELP, he’s nervous. he’s basically spouting out the first thing that comes into his mind. you’d think that he wouldn’t be nervous, but when he’s in an actual relationship with a HOT ASF PERSON, then he’s going to be nervous
he doesn’t look nervous sure, but it’s the way his hands start shaking, it’s a sign that he doesn’t want to mess up with asking for something like kisses. but don’t worry, he does become a natural.
“kissing is th—” “okay, denki. come over here.” and he does gradually get less and less nervous about asking you. however, it’s his thing to ask kisses with those ‘lame’ puns of his. it’s endearing. and you’d assume that there was something wrong if he didn’t start things out with a ‘lame’ joke. it’s his trademark!
neito monoma
— ELUDING
he’s always eluding on something. he could just outright ask you to kiss him, because he’s not ‘cowardly’ to chicken out and use subtle techniques on his s/o
BUT.. he really likes to pretend that it’s YOU that needs the kisses more than him, even though neito was the one asking about it first. “y/n! i think you need a little favor right now,” he’ll say before kissing you quickly, “y/n, you look like you need a kiss. it can’t be helped.”
you do catch on his little scheme though, because he’d NEVER ask you outright that he’d want a kiss, even though he most likely could. “neito, it looks like you need the kisses more than me.”
he’ll scoff and pretend that he doesn’t know what you’re talking about, even though he knows very well that he’s doing it as an excuse to get kisses from you, without saying the magic words ™️ bug him about it though, and you might get him to oblige. considering how you have him wrapped around your finger
eijirō kirishima
— GRABBY HANDS
the only one that actually asks you out right, stretching his arms out to you “kiss!” he smiles, ushering you closer.
at first, he tried to signal you by taking kaminari’s advice (which was a horrible choice) and that was using body language. eijirō tried this method, and he ended up licking his lips a little too much to the point that you decided to buy him a tube of lipbalm. the explaining bit wasn’t so fun. so, eijirō decided to not follow kaminari’s advice, and chose to follow his own ways instead, a way that a lot more natural to him.
it’s quite adorable, i mean.. how could you not drop everything and give him a kiss when he stretches his arms out to you, the expression on his face pulling you closer for him to garner kisses from his loved one <3
the grabby hands is something he has grown accustomed to, but that doesn’t mean he’ll shy away from saying the magic words ™️

Tumblr media
When Spencer had gone all the way from Virginia to Arizona for a case that had yet to upset the rest of his team, he didn't actually expect another person to upset him as much as the authors of the crime themselves.
The other person was known as the genius of the team, another "version" of him, except that he was in Arizona, with a slightly different rank.
He didn't think badly of him at first, he appreciated the fact of having another person similar to him, which meant that he didn't have to explain the terms he'd use to someone else, he could talk without complications.
He’d usually have to pause in his lecture to explain some stuff, but he didn’t feel like he’d need to do it with him.
"Arizona's genius, y/n y/l/n. It's nice to meet you all. I heard there's another genius here. As much as I'd like to have a nice chat, killers are on the loose, so, eventually, at the end of the case."
The way he had talked was completely fascinating to him, even if he wanted to, he couldn't draw his eyes off him as he talked.
The first words had completely convinced them, and he really felt like he could have a correct interaction with him.
It wasn't everyday that he'd had the occasion to meet another mind similar to his.
This happened to be quite relieving considering the complicity of the case, and it would be much faster for everything to be answered as they'll be two.
"No, he's not that type of guy! Look at what he did, especially at the third victim!" He yelled.
"We have all reasons to think he could be like that, I didn't say it definitely is, but it could be." Spencer argued, pissed off by his words.
"The M.O you just described doesn't really fit, something is missing, and none of what you said makes it right."
"It's the closest thing we have, it's that or we completely start from scratch, as if it's "wrong" to you."
"I don't think it's only to me, and it's better to try to start again than continue with what we have and possibly launch into a wall because that wasn't right. Okay, that's going to take time, but might as well get it right."
"When I expected for the case to go smoothly, I didn't come all the way for this, since when are you so annoying?"
"Oh, now I'm annoying? I'm just doing my job, and you're the one acting offended. So," He paused, as he gathered papers before walking away. "If you excuse me, I have to catch the ones doing this, instead of wasting time. Come back to me when you're in a better mood to work correctly." Y/N said, as another coworker of his approached Spencer not long after he had left.
"Um...I doubt that'll make the situation better, but he acts like that, sometimes. It may seem that he's not going to work, but don't worry, it's mainly so he can...get himself back in the right head space." He explained. "Don't try...get pissed off at each other too often, none of our unit chiefs will be happy with that."
"He could have been less...like that."
"It's just y/l/n being himself, 'can't do much about it. Anyway, let's get back to work, and try to get better you two, at least till we wrap the case."
"Trouble's around." Derek chirped to JJ.
"This case is going to be...fun. Let's hope we at least get to have a distraction."
"Oh, don't worry JJ, we'll have one. They're not done fighting. Definitely not."
"Do you think they're gonna make up and become friends, or yell at each other until the end?" Emily asked.
"A mix of the two. They'll kinda hate each other, but not enough to resist having a conversation between geniuses." Garcia answered.
"True. It's not every day that the both of them get to talk with someone that understands their stuff." Derek pointed out.
"Let's hope that we'll get to see some animation in between work."
*
*
"Are you here to yell again or try to have a calm conversation?" Y/N asked, as soon as Spencer entered.
"I don't get why you're directly attacking before I get to say anything." Spencer protested.
"Just in case."
"Okay, do you have something against me or what? Because I can't work if you keep being angry all of the time."
"I'm not angry." He answered.
"Then I'm a clown if I can't even read your face. It's written on your forehead that you are, you're literally an open book." Spencer closed the door, having a slight feeling that the conversation would possibly get louder.
"I thought you weren't supposed to profile the people you work with, no? I'm not your coworker, but we're working on this case together, so don't profile me unless I ask, which will never happen."
"I don't get you."
"What is there even to understand? You're the one I don't get."
"It's you that I can't figure out. I just can't stand you right now."
"Unfortunately, I'm afraid you'll have to calm your nerves till we finish that case. Because I'm not wasting twenty minutes explaining what is there to "understand" about me." He spit back, glancing at Spencer.
"I can't keep talking with you if you act like that."
"I'm not a cute puppy in case you haven't figured that out. I'm not going to be nice just for you, especially when you point out that I'm not how you like to be talked."
"I didn't specify anything."
"Didn't you, doctor?" He focused on the last word, raising his eyebrows.
"Damn it." Spencer walked up to him in a snap, glancing at him for a split second before suddenly taking in his face in his hands as he roughly kissed him.
Not even one of them expected that it'd just take a single argument to let the pressure out.
They were just kissing each other, like that. Spencer was the one who started it, not even wondering if he'd return it or walk away, but turns out that y/n had been the one to take the lead after that, as he gripped his hair, slamming him against the wall.
Nothing really mattered in that moment, they didn't even think about the others possibly walking in, all they both needed to do was to let out of all the frustration contained since this morning.
It wasn't quite only anger, but also because they had both wanted each other, in their own way.
As much as Y/N was afraid to admit it, he did imagine it, slamming him against the wall, even if he wouldn't be strong or even courageous enough to do that.
Spencer did imagine gripping his jaw, especially after he walked out in fury, he was so upset about him that all he wanted was to kiss him to let him know what he felt.
He didn't want to admit it, but he hated it whenever someone raised his voice at him, he needed to do that to calm himself, in some way.
If they weren't in some police station, their shirts would have already been on the floor, the layers of clothes between them were more than infuriating as they tugged at the other's shirt.
And even when they stopped for a moment to breathe again, it didn't take much for their lips to link again after a short glance.
Spencer quickly flipped y/n the other way so he'd be the one against the wall, and to his surprise, his face quickly gained another tint.
He caged him in with one arm against the wall, gripping his chin with the other, as y/n tugged at his hair again, not knowing where else to put them.
Things went fast so quickly, they didn't even think about what they'd do, they just went with the flow.
What they forgot to think and pay attention about, was that they weren't alone in the place.
Literally all of the people working at the station were there, and could possibly start to look for them.
They really didn't care about it, none of them broke the kiss to point it out, it was just four walls, them, and their mixed feelings.
"I still can't stand you." Spencer said in between when they briefly broke the kiss.
"Me neither." He blurted out.
As one of them probably guessed at some point, their inattention cost them when they didn't even hear the lock of the door over their breaths.
"Hey, we found…" JJ walked in, stopping in the middle of the sentence.
The door kept itself open, as the noise of the outside drew in, causing them to break away as both of their eyes were wide open.
Spencer's hair was a mess, strands going everywhere, which would need to be at least fixed with his hand for him to be presentable.
Only the back of y/n's hair was messed up as he was against the wall most of the time.
Both of their shirts had a few buttons out, although, y/n's was the closest to being on the floor if someone hadn't come.
By the time they had begun slowly walking away from the other, she had definitely just seen them making out.
"...something." She ended the sentence, not quite knowing what to say after witnessing the event.
"Oh, uh...we'll uh...meet you in just a sec." Spencer said.
"Right. Okay." JJ responded, closing the door in a hurry.
"I hate to say this to you, but I think we're screwed." Y/N pointed out once she was gone.
"They'll definitely be able to tell from the look on her face and ours when we'll get out."
"Yeah, we should have…done it elsewhere."
"It's a bit late for that."
"You're the one who started, you should have at least chosen another place genius."
"I have to admit it but, true."
"They'll definitely figure out you're the one who started, you basically entered after me."
"I hate you."
"No, you don't. You just don't like me." He corrected Spencer, as he opened the door to walk out, walking out of the room.
It didn't take much for some of their coworkers's eyes to lay on them as they entered their vision.
Spencer discreetly approached y/n after Hotch began talking, making sure the attention was elsewhere.
"I'm going to show you how much I 'just don't like you' when we're out of here, you're gonna see."
"Deal."

Told you guys I’d ramble in due time.
I absolutely adore Bravely Default 2. It came at a really bad time cos I can’t waste 70 hours on a jrpg, but well, it’s too late to be concerned about that now. And as is tradition with me obsessing over a new game / show / whatever, you’ll basically find a fullblown review disguised as ramblings right under the cut. Be aware that I’m gonna talk about EVERYTHING, so spoilers are a given. Some maybe even for the previous Bravely Default games.
Also, if you wanna talk about this game in any capacity, hit me up, I’m DESPERATE to talk more about it.
Just for reference on how long this is gonna be, I made a voice recording while driving to remember all the points I wanna make, and that recording is almost 2 hours long. I did cut it down but still, this is gonna be a lot.
I’ll start off with the things that actually bugged me about the game, since there are only 3 things that really bothered me. First of, I really don’t like that you can name Seth. He has too much personality to be a self insert and player integration is not that big of a part in the game that this decision can be justified. It wouldn’t bother me that much if it didn’t leave a bad mark on the ending. First of all, we were robbed of Gloria desperately shouting for Seth, which makes the impact work less, and it’s just so prevalent that the name can’t be said because you have all the normal sound design going. If they’d just let the credits still play I wouldn’t have batted an eye, but because every other sound comes in it’s so obvious they’re just silently shouting in this scene, which makes it look silly. Like I said, this decision is more a detriment than an addition, and it’s a shame it casts a shadow on an otherwise heartfelt ending.
Speaking about lost potential, the other thing that really bothers me is the lost potential in certain plot points and character conclusions. I mainly mean Adam and Edna here. Both of them have been built up to be these formidable foes but they just, die. If it was just Adam I’d be fine with it, since you expect Edna to backstab him and be the actual big bad of the story, but I cannot fathom why they dropped Edna this HARD. If not Edna herself, I don’t understand why we don’t get more of a reaction from the Fairies and especially Adelle. I mean, Edna was her sole reason she left for her journey in the first place, then Edna dies and that’s it? No part where she grieves for a second? No concern from the others about Adelle? Mind you, I haven’t finished all the Sidequests, so maybe there actually is one in which this is addressed, but I think even just a Party Chat after Bad End 1 would have been sufficient to show how Adelle suddenly feels about the loss of Edna. It would have made Bad End 2 / The Secret Ending even more impactful, because, yeah, of course, you kinda know Adelle isn’t going to turn her back on fairy kind, but one of the reasons she doesn’t leave is because if Enda didn’t get a happy ending, then she shouldn’t either. It would have been amazing foreshadowing if she showed this sentiment before this scene happened. Other than that, it’s a shame that we know so little about Edna, or rather, how she became “bad”. I get she’s supposed to be corrupted by the Night’s Nexus, but how did it even come to this? It can’t have been a gradual thing, after all, Adelle says Edna was always good natured and then just disappeared one day. Really would have loved seeing more of that plot point.
Ok, last gripe I have, some choices in the soundtrack and sound design. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love the OST, and I will get to that, but damn, whatever Revo used for the lead instrument in Wiswald hurts my ears. It’s a really good track, but I always have to turn down my volume because these high pitched sounds physically hurt. And for sound design. Dude, the Night’s Nexus is the least threatening, nightmare fueled abomination that ever existed. I get that its growl is kinda supposed to be layered with Edna’s or sth, but it, it just sounds silly. If they went the route of just swinging between different voices or began distorting it from phase to phase, it would have been fine. But the choice they made really made an otherwise creepy design just absolutely silly.
Ok, enough jammering, on to the good stuff. Like I said, there’s going to be a lot, so I’ll try to be brief in each aspect.
Gameplay
I honestly like the new battle mechanics more than the old ones. This individual, turn based system feels way more dynamic and it’s easier to strategies in battles. Because nothing made me more angry than setting up for a heal and the enemy suddenly being faster than me and killing my healer. Now it’s easier to plan ahead a bit.
I also found myself experimenting more with the jobs. Not sure what it really is, but none of the party members leaning more towards certain types of jobs and the job leveling being way faster probably helped.
And I know some people get up in arms because the boss sometimes can be a real pain in the ass (looking at you pope dude), I still found it very interesting getting around counters or even using these counters as a benefit. As an example, I made Adelle my main physical fighter and gave her lots of counter abilities to help her profit from being countered by enemies themselves. Now, she can attack enemies, get countered, automatically evade that counter and earn a BP at the same time. Made a lot of boss fights way easier and fun to exploit.
Music
Ok, I will try my best to be really, really brief, because in my recording this part takes up almost 40 minutes. Anyways, Revo might have just become one of my absolute favorite composers ever. I don’t know what kind of magic he used, but I initially wasn’t that impressed with the OST, but every time I listened to it, I just fell in love harder and harder. Before getting into specifics, I wanna highlight the two things that made me love this OST overall. First of all, this soundtrack almost seems like a refinement of BD’s. While losing some of that fairytale vibe, it sounds even more fantasy now. And in contrast to the original, this almost sounds more balanced? Like, BD’s OST felt high energy throughout, BD2’s on the other hand manages to find a good balance between high and low energy pieces. Like, the character themes or battle themes are absolute hype, but the overworld themes are a lot calmer and easier to listen to while exploring. Second big point that makes this soundtrack amazing is that Revo is an absolute god at using emotional progression/storytelling and leitmotifs in his songs. And heck, do I love myself my leitmotifs. You’ve got some obvious ones, like the final battle theme in which all the character themes and other leitmotifs are integrated. Then you got some maybe more subtle once, just like how the overworld themes are just the main theme, just a lot calmer and using the lead instruments of the towns of the areas.
But my absolute favourites gotta be the character themes and the main theme. I love how fitting the themes for the characters are and in general, each of them is such a bop. At first I prefered Elvis’, because I sure am a sucker for jazzy vibes, but over time Adelle’s became my fav. It’s just something about the trumpets, and how the theme almost sounds a bit melancholic and bittersweet, that drew me in. And considering her story, mostly her bad end, that the bittersweet tone really fits.
Then there’s the main theme. Just like BD’s it shouts “triumphant anthem” and it definitely gives you a very familiar vibe, but I’d argue it has even better emotional progression. Heck, the first time I heard the music start up in the reveal trailer, I didn’t have to look at the screen to know this is gonna be a BD game. Also, the credit song version had me weeping at the true end. I’m someone who’s very easily affected by music (if me shouting about soundtracks on this blog wasn’t proof enough) and just hearing that ending song, getting the after credits scene, just for the second credits to start as a freaking duet. Dude, at that point I just started sobbing, I’m not gonna lie. Just this little part showed how much Revo knows how to put emotion in a song and also write it in such a way that he can elicit strong, emotional reactions from you too.
Story
People have been complaining how the story is too boring and kinda disappointing in comparison to the last one, but I just think the games tried to accomplish different things here. Since the BD series is a celebration of old, classic jrpgs, “cliche” storytelling is a given. Though, BD did throw a lot of meta stuff in there too. BD2 in contrast just feels like a direct execution of that initial idea. It feels familiar, it feels comfy and it feels safe. Except for the little things with the endings and then overwriting the Nexus’ “save file”, BD2 doesn’t really get that meta, which is totally fine. It doesn’t try to reinvent or innovate anything, it just wants to be a fantasy story, that might be cliche, but still fun and enjoyable in its own right.
I’d also argue that the pacing is a lot better than the old game, because with BD I sometimes found myself skipping through scenes to get on with the story. Not that this game didn’t have me rushing through stuff as well, but I found it kept my intrigue way better than the original.
Characters
Next to the music, this is the part that I absolutely love the most. While, yes, they did lose a lot of potential with some characters, mostly with the villains, the main cast is just so much fun. I love these 4 dorks so, so much.
I honestly can’t stand how much people compare them to the original cast. Yes, ofc, I’ve been doing my fair share of comparisons too, but calling these four a more boring version of BD’s party physically hurts me. Because except for some initial impressions, the Heroes of Light are completely different from our beloved Warriors of Light.
While yes, Seth and Gloria give off strong Tiz and Agnes vibes at first, they both grow into such different characters that they’re not really comparable. I think this shows with Adelle and Elvis even more. I do understand how people could compare Adelle and Edea, since they’re both the feisty girl type, but I can’t understand how people can see Ringabel and Elvis as the same character type. While those two are the “suave” party members, they act so differently from another. And that’s honestly apparent the first time you meet them.
Anyways, I love these 4 so much.
We technically don’t know a lot about Seth at all, but they manage to pull so much out of just the fact that he’s a sailor, that it makes him really endearing, really fast.
I was kinda disinterested with Gloria at first, because again, the initial impression was Agnés2.0, but she grew on me a lot. Gloria is way more hard headed and honestly sassy in comparison to Agnés and I absolutely adore it.
Elvis. Elvis, my man. I love this fantasy scottosh wizard so, so much. He’s such a ridiculous character but so endearing at the same time. You got all this dorkiness, with him setting himself on fire as a student, him doing god knows what for a good drink or just laughing danger and prejudice in the face. But then you got his super empathetic and caring side. Mind you, most of his wise moments come from quoting Lady Emma, but still, as much as he’s hopeless with certain social situations, he’s actually still really good at reading the room and playing things smart. He’s a smart and powerful idiot, which makes him a danger to everyone and himself, and I love him for it. (I also can’t believe they called him Lesley I MEAN COME ON)
And then there’s Adelle. I liked her from the start, but I didn’t think she would stick out to me. I think now she’s my favourite character. Not even talking about all the stuff that happens in chapter 3 and onward, because these story threads are awesome in their own right, but there’s just something about her personality that’s interesting and appealing to me. Like I said, I’m not surprised people compare her to Edea, I did too at first, but while Edea walks very close to the line of a Tsundere, I was really surprised that Adelle is, well, not a Tsundere at all. Yeah, of course she’s putting Elvis down a lot, but that stems more from her preventing his ego from going to his head than her being all embarrassed. No, Adelle is actually really well adjusted when it comes to communication. While it’s hilarious that she and Elvis met with her chucking her shoes at him, the two just got along well right from the start. Adelle in general has this really open and helpful personality, but also doesn’t shy away from putting her foot down, even if that sometimes comes out as an embarrassed sputter. She’s also the mother hen of the group. She looks out for the other three and gets concerned about them real fast.
I dunno, Adelle just really grew on me over the course of this game, and then her kinda being paired with Elvis too, as partners and as partners, makes me like her even more. Because as much as I like their personalities individually, I like their character dynamic even more. I honestly love the relationships between all four of them a lot. You really feel them grow closer as friends and all the little character sidequests just always made me really happy.
Conclusion
You might not believe me, but I really held back there. This could probably have been 3 times its length. As much as I love this game, it’s of course not perfect. It struggles and flails in some parts a lot and it certainly has some aspects that might turn people off. But for me, it was just a very familiar and comfy game that didn’t necessarily deliver anything new, but that told its story in such a way that it still got me excited to keep going. The soundtrack is absolutely amazing and the conclusion of the story actually got me to cry. While not groundbreaking, this game is highly enjoyable and leaves you absolutely satisfied at the end.
Also, I would like to iterate that I am desperate to get more content about this game, so if you wanna chat about it, hit me up.
Anyways, anyone else felt like having a fever dream when everybody in chapter 2 started talking fantasy scottish? Cos I sure did.

Love your drawings how do you make them?
Thank you for the compliment! I haven't done a digital drawing tech/process update in a while so this is going to be so long, sorry in advance! HUGE disclaimer: I have a steady income and like buying art supplies so my setup is NOT broke art kid friendly. However, I do have worthwhile and sometimes free suggestions!
Software: Adobe fresco and photoshop (I get them for free through my job as a graphic designer, don't come for me). More affordable options I like are CSP (one time purchase), Procreate (I've never used it, but I can't leave it out), and Krita (free!). All of these are awesome and let you do a LOT, including animation!
Hardware: Huion Kamvas 24in on an articulated monitor arm (college graduation gift to myself). In the past I've used a Wacom 13in (bought secondhand from a friend for super cheap), a surface book laptop/tablet (very generous Christmas gift from parents), and my iphone. Finding affordable options for hardware is more difficult than software, but if you have the money for it, looking for a drawing tablet on a secondhand site like ebay or facebook marketplace is worth your time.
Other drawing supplies: a random drawing stylus for my phone, a scanner, a sketchbook, pinterest, colorhunt, unsplash, dafont, and my gigantic 4gb folder of textures on my laptop. I also signed up for this freebie thing from creativemarket (and haven't been charged any money yet so that's cool) which will send me stuff like new digital brushes and cool textures to download. It's definitely more graphic design focused than illustration, but I'd still check it out if you're interested. :D
My art process in bullet points, for pieces I actually spend time on:
Sketch my idea in my sketchbook or phone, sleep on it, then actually start drawing the idea the next day
Make a tighter sketch from the loose sketch I drew the night before while using a million references from pinterest (for really funky poses) or unsplash (for scenery and background ideas) so I'm not drawing completely from my mind/memory (this is important because your mind is prone to remembering things wrong. Always always always use references)
Completely skip over actually lining my art and instead clean up my tight sketch until it looks okay enough
Fill in flat colors using a textured brush (gasp) while sometimes using color palettes as inspiration
Render colors with more textured brushes (plain hard edge circle brush users fight me /j)
Shade in a cel style on top of the rendered colors with a bright mid tone purple/blue/pink set on multiply at 50%
Clip a layer on top of my "lineart," color all of it a dark blue or brown, then start coloring different parts of it with various colors (ex: for a diamond sword, I'd color the edge hitting the light with a bright blue/green/pink. For the edge in shadow, a purple/dark blue/brown)
Forget to sign my name, close the drawing program, then have to reopen it
This is SO LONG, but I hope this gives some insight! If anyone has more questions, let me know. :)
P.S: I have so many art resources saved in my browser that I kind of want to make a whole separate post for it. Let me know if that's something you'd like to see! I might just make it lol

Nobody really asked for this but uhhh... I kind of needed it 😶😇😂 Please excuse me for being self indulgent for this one time! ❤❤❤ But most of all, please enjoy! 😘
The Pillarmen (separate) with an s/o on their Period...
(Under the cut for length!)
Tumblr media
(Warning! This contains content all surrounding a Woman's menstruation cycle and all the absolute joys that come with it 🙃 like: graphic descriptions of pain and blood, more blood and lots of blood. Viewer discretion advised! In other words, you have been warned...)
Kars:
• Chances are, Kars will always be long prepared for your periods monthly arrival.
• Even in the time when you were first getting to know each other, he picked up on your cycle patterns quickly.
• The first time you confided to him you were on your period he was prepared then too, pulling out a fresh pack of pads for you seemingly out of nowhere.
• The way you reacted, he'd swore he had just pulled a rabbit out of a hat.
• From then on he knows exactly when it will happen, he's done all the calculations and has the date marked on his desk calendar.
• When the day comes, he'll have a box of stuff already waiting for you by the bed; a hot waterbottle, some chocolate, pads/tampons, a bottle of Motrin, you name it.
• It's no surprise that even if you happen to be late or early he'll still be prepared; heck, he'll take one look at you and know.
• If you're cramping or feeling bloated and icky he knows some good teas to help you with that too.
• Kars is also prepared for the emotional and intensive side of things when you're undergoing your cycle.
The door creaked open quietly, a tendril of light cutting through the dark as the wrapped head of Kars poked into the room, ruby eyes settling on the lumpy form quivering under the pile of blankets covering the bed.
He had heard you crying from the hallway one his way back to his Office.
The Pillarman's lips came together, however, he didn't hesitate for a moment as he stepped further into the room. "My dear," he spoke, approaching the bed. Your shaking form visibly tensed right up. It was obvious you hadn't even heard him come in. "Is your back giving you grief again?"
You had started just a day ago and of course things were carrying out as usual; cravings, back pain, nausea, all things he expected.
What he didn't expect was your answer, which was a wet sob, words muffled as the blankets moved; a shake of the head was his only coherent response.
He only frowned, the bed dipping with a low creak as he sat down on the very edge right at your back where you laid curled on on yourself under the covers.
"Your stomach then? You feel nauseous, is that it?" He pressed.
Another shake of the head, his sharp ears strained to hear the watery response from underneath the thick layer of blankets, leaving Kars with no choice but to finally peel away the barrier covers between you and him. Your very red and very wet face was finally revealed to him, your lips knotted and quivering as you sniffled.
Your state was only worrying him further, it was plainly obvious you had been crying for some time and on top of things, you weren't even looking at him.
There was an unmistakably guilty look to your watery expression.
"What is it then?" He asked, a huge hand plucking the stray hair from your soaked cheeks and eyes. "What's wrong? I need you to talk to me, dear."
His pressing only made the tears come much harder, his hands instinctively going to your back and rubbing softly.
"I'm sorry, Kars..." came the staccatic whimper.
He blinked twice, "For what?"
"I ruined the sheets!" You cried, hugging yourself tighter. "I... I laid down because--because my back was hurting again and I f-fell asleep and when I woke up it was just... all over the place!"
Your Husband listened to you quietly, suddenly coming to the realization that the bed had indeed been stripped of the sheets beneath the blankets; you were only laying (probably not very comfortably) on the thin white plastic mattress cover. His eyes drifted to the far corner of the room where the ruined fitted sheet and the thin matching over sheet had been simply balled up into a big lumpy wad and thrown there.
"You ruined your pants as well then," he hummed, remembering that you had been wearing a particular pair; your favourite fuzzy lounging pants with the stars on them.
A nod was his only response this time.
Kars let out a sigh, leaning down to lay his head on your shoulder. "Oh, my sunshine, it's alright. We have plenty of sheets, one ruined cover is nothing to me."
"I--"
"I know you didn't mean to." He cut you off, already knowing what you were going to say, his gentle ministrations unceasing. "It was an accident, I would not expect you to have control over something like this. These things happen. We can always get new sheets and buy you more pants and undergarments."
It relieved you to know he wasn't upset with you over this, or worse disgusted by the prospect of your mess, and you found yourself letting out a shakey breath you didn't know you had been holding.
The covers peeled away and you nearly yelped as you were suddenly hoisted into his arms, the Pillarman carrying you right out of the room without another word.
"Wh-What are you doing?" You squeaked, your confusion making the remainder of your tears ebb a little more.
"I'm taking you to get cleaned up." He answered without missing a beat. "No doubt you're probably still soiled, so you're going to take a nice hot shower. I'll leave you some fresh clothes and replace the sheets while you're in there and then we can crawl into bed and watch that program you like."
"I-- I thought you had work to do tonight." You said, watching him owl eyed as he set you down gently on the toilet and began to putter around the bathroom, pulling towels down from the cupboard and turning the shower on.
He hummed, "Oh, my work can wait until the morrow. My duties as your Mate come first, you know."
You felt a quivering smile tugging at your lips as he peered over his shoulder with a soft smile, cocking an eyebrow at you.
Kars was undoubtedly the only one in your life who could sweep up the shattered remains of a problem and fabricate it into something treasured.
He was the only one who made a this week out of every month truly bearable.
Esidisi:
• Growing up, Esidisi had been around the Women of his tribe and his Family a lot.
• He's definitely prepared for something like this and even upon first getting to know him, you could talk to him openly about it.
• These kinds of things don't faze him in the slightest; you're a Woman and as long as you're healthy there was no issue.
• Esidisi will almost always be able to tell whenever your monthly cycle is approaching, being an intuitive man and all.
• He knows your behaviors and habits and he can easily spot your telltale signs leading to your period, like: any erratic sleep patterns, a shift in your overall mood, your eating habits taking a sudden change, any ofd facial acne popping up, etc.
• He'll definitely be prepared for the day it does hit because he makes sure to go out and do all the necessary shopping prior.
• When your period does hit, it basically hits both of you.
• If you get emotional, he gets emotional; when you're in pain, he's in pain.
• Half of the ordeal might just consist of both of you crying and holding each other.
• The other half of it consists of him doing his very best to help you feel better and alleviate any discomfort you happen to feel.
• However... his methods in doing so are very unconventional.
You did your very best to lay still as the calloused pad of a thumb swiped along bare skin, just under your navel, where you lay; leaving not only a trail of paint but a ticklish sensation that nearly made you giggle.
However, it was easy not to laugh while feeling nothing but waves of uncertainty and mild irritation rolling over you amidst all this.
The deep timber of Esidisi's voice thrumming out the tones of a mantra in some language you couldn't identify did little to comfort you as you laid there before him on the bed. You were dressed only in your underclothes and already painted with several other sigils along your body as he finished the one directly over your womb.
The room was dark, save for the light of two candles, one at each bedside table, allowing you to see him partially where he stood over you in the shadows.
His eyes, normally two sapphires glimmering, shined like rubies in the dark; animalistic and a reminder that he was something indeed inhuman.
You weren't really one to believe in rituals, especially not while you had some Motrin in a bottle downstairs that would fix up your prediciment just fine, but your Husband insisted on this instead.
You were starting to regret telling him you were still cramping with every sigil he drew and every stone and flower placed particularly around and over you.
"Esidisi," You whined. "Is this really necessary?"
The Pillarman's rythmic chanting fell to an abrupt halt at your words, his eyes fell on you incredulously.
"Of course this is necessary!" He cried. "You want the pain to stop, don't you?"
You grimaced, "Well, yes, but I just think this is..." teeth dug hard into your lower lip as your Mates brow came together, full lips twisting and arms folding over his chest as his gaze burned holes into you, awaiting the end to that sentence.
What could you possibly say that wouldn't hurt his feelings?
That is was a bunch of hoo-hah?
That he didn't know what he was doing or how a Women's body worked?
That the ancient medicine of his people that he was still using was something long outgrown in today's society?
That it most definitely wouldn't work and it was a waste of time?
"This is, what?" He pressed, chin raising as his foot began to tap quietly on the floor.
You could feel sweat sticking uncomfortably to your skin, or perhaps that was just you suddenly becoming increasingly aware of the feeling of the oil on your body he had slathered you with prior, as you fumbled to finish.
"Er... that is is... a little.... much?"
A bare brow cocked as he echoed you. "Much?"
"Well, I mean, you've painted at least 13 symbols on me now and you've smudged the air with so much sage my head hurts and the crystals and the flowers and... just the whole shebang here..." your hand went up to guesture to everything that was laid out, things both on you and on him.
His attire was something close to ridiculous in your eyes; he was even more naked than usual! Dressed in nothing but feathers covering his nether region and his usual hat, he stood before you covered in swirls of orange paint all along his body rather than just his cheeks.
"Isn't this just a little much?" You asked, unable to stop the frown from tugging on your lips.
Esidisi blinked owlishly, "Well, how else am I supposed to banish the evil spirits from your uterus and alleviate your pain?"
It had greatly surprised (and upset) him to find that the medicines and practices he was weaned on as a child had faded away into non-existence along with the name of his people.
Apart from Kars, who had taken to (ugh) more "modern" practices with those placebos and chemicals made in labratories, there didn't seem to be a soul out there who knew how to properly do these things!
Esidisi wasn't going to let you suffer or be harmed in any way shape or form, not when he knew how to stop it. He had learned early on how to cleanse the womb and heal it of any harmful curses or diseases that would happen to plague you. His Grandmother had been the one who had taught him and he had spent his youth putting them to much practice.
If you thought that this was much, you were definitely going to be in for a surprise for when you became pregnant one day; he planned to preform regular hour long sessions daily then.
You couldn't stop yourself from sighing, a hand reaching up to give a light slap to your cheek as you groaned.
You would just have to explain to him what really caused all the pain of menstruation. "Honey, there's no evil spirits--"
A finger pressed to your lips, stalling anymore words from falling from them. "Shh, beloved. You mustn't keep disrupting the ritual." The man chided softly, leaning down to press a dotting kiss to your brow as he swiped the final line of paint over it. "Now just lay there and let me handle this. Trust me, you'll feel better in no time."
Your lips turned downward as you watched him step back to fetch his singing bowl, sighing softly to yourself as you adjusted the bouquet of herbs and flowers that he had pushed into your hands.
It was hard to get comfortable when you could feel the mint leaves he had scattered in your hair scratching against your scalp and the orange peeling he had stuffed it on your bra was an entirely different matter all together.
You supposed that somehow it could've been worse and you had to be content that this was relatively harmless all in all.
At least the hollow ring of the singing bowl and the continuation of his mantra would put you to sleep while he carried out the rest of this ritual...
Wamuu:
• Admittedly, Wamuu knew very little on the concept of Women and their monthly cycles; until you came along into his life that was.
• He knew how it worked of course and that it indeed happened but embarrassingly, he had sort of... forgotten about it in a way.
• Really, you supposed you couldn't blame him. This wasn't exactly something that was part of his everyday life, growing up with only 3 other Males the majority of it.
• The first time he happened to smell blood off you, it sent him into a panic and he immediately thought that you were hiding an injury from him; demanding to know where it was so he could treat it.
• Embarrassed, you tried to be discreet and prod him gently in the direction of what was happening. However, every code word for it just seemed to fly over his head; inevitably confusing him further.
• "It's high tide." "What? Beloved, we do not live by the ocean." "Er... the blood moon has risen?" "The blood moon isn't supposed to appear for another few months. And it is daytime, beloved." "Uhh... It's shark week?" "Why are you talking about a T.V. program at a time like this?"
• Finally, after a long, LONG session of going back and forth like that, you had no choice but to scream that you were on your period.
• Wamuu's beat red face and his impossibly huge eyes will be an image forever burned into your brain.
• After that, even though he wasn't exactly an expert on such matters, Wamuu did his best to at least be attentive to your needs.
• He does his best to understand your patterns and the entirety of what exactly you go through.
• He's always checking in on you every so often, sheepishly asking if you're feeling ok or if you need anything.
• Just say the word and He'll get you pads or food or water, perhaps even a distraction like a movie...
The wet sounds of sniffling hitting his eardrums was what caused Wamuu to be roused from his deep and comfortable sleep, the Warrior blinking in the dark of the room and instinctively raising his head to locate the source.
"Beloved," He breathed, eyes falling onto your form. You were also awake, your back to him and sitting on the edge of the bed, curled in on yourself. His lips fell into a frown as you continued to sniffle, now trying to stiffle the sound upon realizing that he too was awake now.
Wamuu slowly pulled himself up into a sitting position, "what's wrong? Why are you awake?"
It was still the dead of night, just a little past 1AM, he couldn't think of a reason for you to be awake and crying other than the possibility of you having a nightmare.
" 's nothing..." you hiccuped, scrubbing your eye. "Go back to sleep."
His frown only deepened, scooting across the bed to get closer to you. "No. What is it? What has you so upset?" He pressed, an arm encircling around your quivering form. "Did you have a nightmare?"
A particularly harsh sob cut through you as you shook your head, burying your face in your hands as if trying to hide from him, "No! Go back to sleep!"
Chartreuse eyes softened considerably, the massive man only hugging you closer to his body as he chose to press further.
"If it's not a nightmare than what is it?"
"Oh, you'll laugh!" came the moan.
"I will not laugh." He replied, quite matter of factly.
"You'll--... You'll be angry!"
His brow knitted together sternly, one huge and warm hand wrapping around your much smaller one, uncaring of the fact it was wet with tears.
"I will not be angry. Please, just tell me why you are awake and crying, my love."
You fell silent, save for the staccato of your hiccupped breaths, Wamuu waited with all the patience in the world.
"I--" you paused, swallowing thickly. Your expression contorted in an almost painful manor, a hand slamming over your eyes as you only began to sob harder than before. "--I want... CHICKEN NUGGETS!"
The Pillarman blinked in surprise, that confession had completely taken him off guard. You were crying over food of all things? At 1 o'clock in the morning?
Realization washed over him, making him frown deeper for only a second as he suddenly remembered the fact that you had started your monthly menstrual cycle yesterday evening.
You must've woken up craving and hurting, of course those things would drive you to cry helplessly like so.
If anything, the Warrior was relieved it was nothing serious.
Wamuu smiled softly, only hugging you tighter to him. "Will chicken nuggets get you to stop crying?" He asked softly, carding his fingers gently through your awry bed-head hair.
You coughed, sniffling as your whimpered response rose up from your throat painfully. "Yeah,"
He nodded, "Alright. How many do you want and what kind?"
You sniffed a few times, managing to calm down enough to tell him what would suffice enough to satisfy your hankering. Wamuu pulled on a simple hoodie and some pants as you talked, he even asked you if you wanted to come with him but you declined, not really in the mood to go very far.
He put the Television on for you, turning it on to a program and kissed your head, telling you he'd be back with an order of nuggets, a drink you liked and perhaps something sweet to enjoy after.
You felt guilty for troubling him with something like this, it was even worse that it was at an ungodly hour in the morning but Wamuu didn't care about those things, what mattered to him was your comfort, your happiness and your needs met...
Santana:
• Much like Wamuu, Santana isn't very much educated on the subject of menstruation and your cycles when first getting to know you.
• However, he could tell immediately that something was happening to you even before your cycle started.
• He mentioned that you had a stronger smell to him, like your hormones were given a signifigant boost. He claimed he could also see that you looked a little softer somehow.
• After sitting him down (a little embarrassed) and explaining to him what was going to happen soon, the dots connected for him and he understood.
• You were his Mate afterall and he followed his natural instincts to care and provide for you.
• He doesn't really like letting you out of his sight when it does happen, preferring to keep you close to him and he'll help you out in any way you need.
• You have to be specific with him though. If you send him to the store telling him that you need tampons, he might just come back with the entire isle of boxes in tow.
• This whole thing is always a learning experience to him, even though he can't undergo the same thing he does his best to understand and at least be attentive.
"Oh c'mon..." you groaned, practically begging now as you curled in on yourself on the bed. "Kick in already!"
You had taken that Motrin over 10 minutes ago and still nothing was happening, your back was still aching and your stomach was cramping.
It was impossible for you to move now, you had laid down and there was no way in Hell you were going to get up again until all the pain was gone.
However, you were very much regretting not having the foresight to grab your heating pad on the way here, at least with that it would make it bearable but alas, it was all the way downstairs.
You couldn't even get up without fear of fainting or worse; ruining your pants.
Another wave of nausea shot through your gut, curling up in an icky tendril to your throat straight from the pit of your hurting stomach. All you could do was try to breathe; breathe, ride out the pain, hope it would be over soon and try not to vomit because of it.
A litany of begging was now falling through your lips like a prayer, pleading for anyone or anything listening to make it stop. Tears were beading at the corners of your eyes threatening to fall as your spine felt like it was being twisted, rung out like one would a wet rag.
"Please, please, please stop." You grit, hands turning to fists. "Please, please make it stop."
Little did you know your pleas didn't go unheard.
Santana watched you from the doorway where you couldn't see him, peering in with a thoughtful frown and a tilt of his head. Each quiet moan and whimper made his hands instinctively grip the door tighter, fingers digging harshly into the wood.
You were having a hard time. You were in a lot of pain and he hated to see you as such.
With only a moments thought, the Pillarman knew what he had to do, taking off quickly down the stairs; his feet barely making a sound on the steps.
Your back was hurting, he could see it in the way you kept trying to roll onto it. You used a strange device to help, one that emanated heat with a click of a button. His eyes scanned the living room for the familiar blue fabric with the white chord.
He snatched it off the couch, tucking it under his arm as he went into the kitchen next, finding himself opening and closing cupboards and doors without really knowing what he was looking for this time.
You had already taken one of those pills and he was certain you said something before about having to wait a couple of hours before you took another so that was out of the question.
The bright colours of your waterbottle sitting all by itself on the kitchen counter caught his eye. He didn't know how long you would be up there resting so maybe it was best to put it by your bedside for when you needed it. He also grabbed a couple of snacks from the cupboard, simple wrapped treats you enjoyed here and there.
He put the bottle under the tap, making sure to only stop until it was filled right under the brim with cold water.
Water... hot water. The red-head blinked, humming softly to himself as the gears turned in his head.
Your stomach had been obviously giving you grief as well, it didn't go unnoticed by him that you were clutching it; trying to curl in on yourself. You had something you used to help that too, he had seen you fill it up a few times before.
Waterbottle and heating pad under arm and snacks clutched to his chest, he went back upstairs. He went right past your room and straight into the bathroom, prying open the closet and digging around for the strange rubbery sack he could clearly see in his memories.
He pulled it out triumphantly, the object limp in his grasp like a pelt as he turned on the tap. He waited until the water was hot enough to make steam rise up from the sink before plunging it under to fill and corking it.
His arms now completely full, he shuffled back to your room with the goods; pleased his little scavenger hunt was successful.
There you lay, right where he had left you; from the look of it you definitely hadn't improved.
You were so consumed with your own discomfort you didn't even hear him or see him.
Santana approached the bed quietly, setting the waterbottles (both hot and cold) down on the nighttable with the snacks before fumbling with the heating pad, plugging it into the wall.
The massive hand being laid on your side startled you somewhat, eyes popping open with a shudder before being greeted with the sight of your one and only Mate standing over you at the bedside with a frown.
"Roll over." Came the quiet command, his hand pushing you further onto your side and slipping something familiar underneath you before easing you onto your back again.
"Santana, wha--" was all you could manage out.
Santana clicked it onto the medium setting, reaching for the hot-waterbottle next and holding it up for you to see. He draped the wiggly rubber sack over your stomach, an audible "bloop!" sounding from inside as your arms instinctively curled around it with a sigh; already relishing in its warmth.
The bed dipped as he crawled in next to you, the Pillarmen kindly pulling the blankets up around you both as he curled into your side protectively.
You could feel the heat seeping slowly into your back, the pain starting to ebb somewhat and the heated weight over your stomach was soothing; it all left you near to deliriously blissful.
You realized belatedly that he had brought you all of these things without you even having to ask, you turned your head with a sleepy smile, meeting the gaze of the red-head. He was so sweet you swore at times your heart would melt.
A hand reached up to tangle in his mane of wild hair, "Thank you, honey..."
The Pillarman nuzzled into your neck, almost purring at the gentle touch. He had made you better and that was enough to leave him content for now.
"I will always take care of you, my Mate..." he murmured, smiling softly as you closed your eyes and slowly fell asleep. It wasn't long after that he did the very same...

Cap-Ironman RecWeek: What-If Wednesday
Time for another installment of @cap-ironman rec week! Today’s theme: AU’s.
I know AU’s in different settings are half the reason most people read fanfics, but they’re not really my thing on the whole. AU’s where different choices are made, or different events transpire? Absolutely. Coffee shops? Not my cup of... you know.
So, here’s my AU recommendations for mostly “turn left” scenarios. This time with an under-the-cut break so I don’t take over everyone’s timelines (sorry about that last post). Also with some summaries truncated for length.
Alone Like This
Author: GotTheSilver
Word Count: 7,452
Summary: Steve, post waking up, runs away from SHIELD, and Tony's the one who tracks him down.
Why You Should Read It:
First off, GotTheSilver’s been consistently and regularly putting out solid Stony since 2012 and not only are they not stopping, they’re only getting better. This writer doesn’t get nearly the fanfare I’d expect in Stony circles for someone who puts out this much good stuff, and here’s hoping this post can be a part of changing that.
While I am always a sucker for enemies-to-friends-to-lovers, there’s something to be said for stories where Steve and Tony hit it off right away. And watching these two very different people look at each other and see the same sense of being lost, then finding each other again is... excuse me, there’s something in my eye, ignore me.
Second Chance Lives
Author: raeldaza
Word Count: 43,872
Summary: Tony's gonna die of palladium poisoning anyway, why not join a pointless expedition to recover Captain America’s body? And after, well, why not dedicate his last few months to making sure an American hero settles into his new life? What else is he going to do, get drunk at parties?
Why You Should Read It:
This writer doesn’t write a lot for the MCU but when they do, dang.
“Tony is the one helping Steve acclimate to the new century before Avengers 2012″ is a whole genre of Stony fanfics that scratch an itch I didn’t even know I had before I started reading fanfiction, and this is one of the best ones out there. It’s got it all - Steve poorly coping with his PTSD, Tony poorly coping with his immanent mortality, some breathtakingly poor communication between the two most emotionally stunted men in the MCU, and a cat named Roomba. What’s not to love?
Should You Choose to Accept It
Author: elwenyere (look, you’re gonna be seeing a lot of them this week, sorry-not-sorry)
Word Count: 27,106
Summary: After a terrorist attack and a field operation gone wrong, the Avengers realize that Nick Fury's secrets are just the start of a much bigger mystery. Steve and Tony try to keep some things from each other as well, but that can't possibly affect the mission — right? Mission Fic + Getting Together (or Mission: Getting Together) that mashes up elements from Iron Man 3, CA: Winter Soldier, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season one, and Mission Impossible 3.
Why You Should Read It:
You can see my post yesterday for singing El’s praises, but what I really liked about this fic was how how damn creative it is. The CAWS/IM3/AOS mashup is everything I wished the actual MCU gave us and more, with well-developed characters and an exciting story to put them in. And because it’s El, you know the banter’s gonna be on point, the way the characters care for each other is gonna be emotionally constipated but touching, and the pacing’s gonna be exciting enough to draw you in and keep you there. Also, this fic doesn’t have nearly enough kudos so please go read it and fix that or I’m gonna have to try to hack AO3 and that’ll just be embarrassing for all parties involved.
What Happens In Vegas
Author: sabremc
Word Count: 161,951
Summary: “What the hell, Tony?” Rhodey demanded brusquely.  Tony winced and drew the phone away from his ear.  “You’ve got cops and Feds all over the hotel.  I’m watching you perp walk out of the police station on repeat on CNN.  They’re saying you tried to bribe Stern?  Fox News has you selling weapons on the black market, and God that picture they’re using is the one from Bali in ’09.   You look like shit.  They wheeled Stern out and put him in an ambulance, by the way.  Got some paparazzi swearing you decked the guy.  Now they’ve got ‘copters following it like he’s OJ.”
“Yeah, don’t worry, Sourpatch, I’ve got it covered.   Uh, though, I should probably tell you that, purely in the interests of national security and the greater good, I kind of had to fake marry that stripper-gram  you sent.  Thanks for that, by the way,” Tony added quickly.
Why You Should Read It:
If you’re deep enough into Stony to see posts like this on Tumblr, you probably know sabre’s what we in the business call a “big name author.” They’re prolific, they’re popular, and most importantly, they write words good (technical term). Seriously, sabre just keeps cranking out high quality stuff over and over again, raising the bar for the rest of us like a jerk (not really. I’m not bitter they write stuff so good I wish I’d thought of it first. Not at all.)
I never read stripper!Steve or stripper!Tony as a rule, but this came so widely recommended that I broke that rule and boy am I glad that I did. This is also the only fic on this list that’s a true-AU, with Steve being a non-powered vet from Afghanistan who left his army career to help Bucky and is stripping in Vegas to raise money for a prosthetic arm. He’s booked to do a private show for Tony, shenanigans ensue, and now they’re fake-married. This fic’s got some top-of-the-line banter and character development, but I particularly love it for its rich setting. Sabre paints a Vegas not just with strip clubs and blackjack tables, but KISS-themed minigolf, romantic dinners on the Eiffel tower, gaudy hotel lobbies, and making out on giant ferris wheels. It’s such a richly developed playground for the characters to play on, and through it, Steve manages to find a life for himself he’d given up on, and Tony finds multiple ways to show his kindness and depth of feeling for Steve. I know the word count’s long for this one but trust me, you’ve gotta read this fic.
Wait & Sea
Author: Lenalena
Word Count: 53,244
Summary: In which Tony and Steve get sent on an undercover mission aboard a cruise ship to make contact with Hydra. In this AU the military has kept the discovery and defrosting of Captain America a secret, so Steve and Tony have never met before. Yet they are to pose as newlyweds....
Why You Should Read It:
This one’s old and popular enough to be considered one of the “classic” Stony fics, and for good reason. Lenalena doesn’t write too often and not as much as they used to, but the fics they have up there are an absolute delight.
This is another fic that I skipped a bunch of times for being outside my comfort zone, but when I finally read it I saw why everyone’s so wild about it. In this story, Steve’s defrosted a bit earlier and not revealed as Captain America. He and Tony are sent undercover to sniff out Hydra shenanigans on a cruise and, because it’s fanfiction, they’ve got to pretend to be a married couple while onboard. There’s tons to love about this fic, but the things that bring me back to reading it over and over is first, Tony’s kindness and the way he’s attuned to Steve’s feelings, which... God, just inject “kind, observant Tony” straight into my veins, please and thank you. This is also another really rich setting for a story, and Lena knows how to fold the the hokeyness of the cruise into the seriousness of the mission and the depth of feelings Steve and Tony are finding for each other in a really beautiful, layered way. It’s funny, it’s heartfelt, it’s steamy, it’s gripping... why are you still reading this here? Go check it out for yourself!
Ashes to Ashes
Author: dirigibleplumbing
Word Count: 51,582
Summary: After regrouping following some surprise time travel, the world's heroes and sorcerers come up with a plan to protect the Mind and Time Stones by taking them into space in opposite directions. The result involves a lot more time loops than Steve would like, but at least they're getting a second chance to stop Thanos. (As well as a third, and a fourth...) And if Steve takes the opportunity to try to reconcile with Tony, too—well, they have the time, and Steve's going to make the most of it.
Why You Should Read It:
Dirigibleplumbing’s another name in Stony fanfics that does not get nearly as much fanfare as they deserve. They’re consistently a really creative voice in Stony fanfics and I always look forward to their stories showing me something new. Go read all their fics, I need more people to geek out with me over them.
I tend to limit myself on Steve-and-Tony-mend-things-after-Civil-War fics not because they’re not good, but because they’re so heavy, and also the Sokovia Accords have five hundred layers of crap in them that no good fic could possibly hash out well. This one, though? When you add in the Infinity War/End Game fixit? Poetry. Art. Music to my ears. DP wrote a really engaging, twisty story where it’s hard to predict what’s coming next, in spite of it literally being a pseudo-Groundhog day scenario. The characterizations are great, the story is engaging, and the feelings are big and sad and eventually happy. Go read it, you’ll love it.
I have tons of other recs for this category but this seems like a good place to stop for today. Tomorrow’s Alternative Media Thursday, and I’ve got some real gems I’ve been saving for that day (aaaaand possibly a self-rec or two ;)
