Another Arcane AU so soon after my last one? Yeah i have poor impulse control and an obsession with Arcane/LoL rn

Tentatively titled: The Ethics of Experimentation

Kk so like after the whole cannery explosion and Vi stumbling off, Powder cries herself unconscious before Silco can arrive, changing things.

Silco still saunters up, but upon seeing an unconscious blue haired child, he just shakes his head, spares one last glance at the dead Vander, and walks off with his men.

He still informs Singed of where Vander's body is, figuring the child was either dead or run off by that time.

Only, when Singed arrives to collect Vander's corpse, Powder is still there, sitting up against Vander's body. Waiting for Vi to come back. Because Vi wouldn't just leave her here, right? She's going to come back. She has to.

Singed stalks up, fairly intimidatingly because that's just how he is, but Powder doesn't flinch back - much like another undercity orphan had, years ago.

Anyway, cue Powder being raised by Singed instead of Silco - switching one unstable father figure for another, much worse, one.

Powder, like before, doesn't heal properly from her entire family's deaths and Vi's betrayal, and still grows into the intelligent yet unstable Jinx but with even less morals than before.

Because let's be honest, Singed is not a man of morals and he would not be able to instill such things into a child that he's essentially raising into another him.

Also because Jinx is literally watching him mutate animals and people and Vander pretty much every day. Slowly watching what was once your father figure turn into a monstrosity would only send her spiralling further into madness, faster.

Silco, of course, recognizes who the kid Singed adopted right away, but he doesn't do anything because Singed is like the only competent doctor down in the undercity, and who cares if the man adopts a kid that once belonged to Vander? The man is still as ruthless as before - if not moreso.

Plus, Singed having a protégé means the man has a weakness to be exploited, and that there's going to be a competent replacement should the doctor die.

Jinx still has her bombs and whatnot but like she also has extensive knowledge on chemistry and human/mutant/most animals bodies.

(also Singed does know it was Powder's fault for the explosion that caused his most extensive scarring, but in Jinx's own words: Powder's dead. And Jinx isn't Powder.

he's honestly just relieved that the kid doesn't mind his unethical experiments and is in fact quite happy to participate in a few herself)

Do you have any fame aus or anything else that inspired you for the dear reader series?

no fame au's, unfortunately :( i am a BIG fan of fame au's, however, so i do have some recs! but the inspiration for dear reader was largely just me listening to my music and forming an au around it - one playlist turned into two, which turned into seven, which turned into 16, etc - and then i had a full au plot in my head😭

but for recs!! i bookmark pretty much every fame au i read just because i love them so much. they're definitely my niche i just cannot stop putting these people on red carpets - and it's always been this waySDKJF

you'd be paranoid too (if everyone was out to get you) by harrowhark is a catradora fame au (popstar!catra) and it was one of the first fics i ever read on ao3 and literally changed my brain chemistry. now this was like 3-4 years ago, so it's been a while since i've read it, even though when i was in my shera hyperfixation i re-read it like six times i think - if you ARE a shera fan, i would 100% recommend this one, i still remember how incredible it was! did it inspire the dear reader-verse specifically? no, they're very different in terms of plot/characters, but i feel like if i'm talking about fics that inspired me this one's essential😭

everyone wake up new jinx album just dropped by Drindrak is similar to the first one in that it is a fame au that just made me love the trope so much, even though it is much more crack than angst, unlike you'd be paranoid😭it's an arcane fic where jinx... becomes a popstar? except it's like, set in runeterra and vi is still in jail and all of that. like. I DONT KNOW HOW TO EXPLAIN HOW MUCH I FUCKING LOVE ITSKDF i swear i just love a good crack fic every now and then, and this did it WITH fame?? i love. and so yeah, looking back on it, i actually do think it inspired dear reader a bit in the way that jinx was absolutely chaotic (will i ever stop on the jinx nico parallels? i wrote a goddamn solangelo timebomb au already but i'm still going to be pointing it out)

he was seen on occasion (pacing the rocks, staring out at the midnight sea) by stargirltv is a solangelo fame au!! and i know that i already rec'd it. but like. you have to know how much i LOVE this fic and though, once again, the plots are pretty different - but also similar in the sense of the character dynamics! so yeah tbh i'd say i probably did, unintentionally, take a lot of inspo from this, just because i do love it so much, and it was one of the only fame au's for solangelo that i had read (i've read much more now, ofc, seeing as i stalk the fame and social media tags like a hawk)

and then the last thing i feel like i have to mention when talking about the inspiration for this fic is the book, red white and royal blue. i think i mentioned in the first chapter of talk your talk's end note that this entire au?? started off as a rwrb crossover in my head. nico's age was calculated with alex's in mind. will going to college at nyu was because i originally planned for alex and him to idk meet at a class or smth. cecil was originally a law student (another ironic thing for a child of hermes, and yet i ended up making him work towards cyber security lmfao) just so he could somehow become friends with alex. i was fully emerged in this universe where somehow these friend groups collided, and i fully orchestrated nico as a popstar just so that they'd have double the fandoms to go crazy about it. so does it really have to do anything with rwrb in terms of plot?? no, but alex and henry are entirely to thank for this!!!😭

i know that i kind of took a bit of a strange route for a popstar au in talk your talk so it doesn't really match the usual trope? like person is already famous -> meets someone, either famous or not -> fight to get together bc of the press -> some sort of leaked photo of them -> they choose each other in the end. and dont get me wrong, i will eat up that trope any day, but i do really like what i did with talk your talk! i love any form of fame au, and so it's always just fun to see different spins on the common tropes :)

Been a while since my last Arcane AU, huh? Lol, enjoy this mess I've tentatively titled Chempunk Atrocities.

Anyway starts off big AU territory - Jinx never fires Fishbones at the council building.

Oh, she was poised and ready to, but she falters at the last second, with Silco's words echoing around her mind, because she's crying and she shouldn't cry, she's perfect.

Jinx ends up running off into the Undercity, even as Vi calls out for her to come back.

K, so, another au bit - i headcanon Renata and Silco as having at least met one another (if not done more *eyebrow wiggle*), and Silco exchanged quite a few favours and scrapped shimmer formulas with Renata. And one of those was that, should he die, Jinx was to be taken care of, and not in the most permanent way.

So, Jinx, running on adrenaline and guilt and grief, runs for a safe and familiar place - one of Silco's hideouts. She'd avoided The Last Drop with everything she had because for sure stepping into that place would have fucked her up even worse.

She hides away and buries her feelings by tinkering and building and inventing - but she doesn't leave the hideout and she doesn't heal.

No one's sure if she's even alive anymore by this point. Not even Jinx is sure she is alive.

But then Renata kicks down the door to the hideout and drags Jinx back out into the undercity, into the new nation of Zaun.

A nation that needed a leader, as Silco was dead and keeping that secret would only last so long.

The nation needed a figurehead, needed someone strong to run it, and Jinx fit most of the profile the ChemBarons were searching for.

Daughter of the last leader, ridiculously strong, and feared throughout both Zaun and Piltover.

And with Piltover dropping any charges against Jinx, for the sake of a peaceful transfer of power to Zaun, she was their best bet.

Only, everyone knows that Jinx isn't exactly stable.

But her stability had nothing to do with this, or so Renata claims.

After all, Jinx would have to have some sort of council, some sort of sounding board, and who better than the ChemBarons already in power? They would hold the real power. Jinx would just look like the leader. A true figurehead, in all the ways it mattered.

Anyway, queue Jinx being forcibly shoved into her father's shoes, forced to lead a country she had no qualms about sending to war mere months before, and it only makes her mental state worse.

The pressure of the ChemBarons weighs heavily on her shoulders, cracking her already fragile psyche.

And the worst part is that they made their pressure seem like something Silco would want - they play on her grief and rage and hurt, all to line their pockets more.

And Renata. Renata is, somehow, even worse. Her words drip with a poisoned honey, much like Silco's had, and she sets herself into an almost motherly role to Jinx, all while understanding that this is only going to make Jinx irrevocably worse.

Renata pulls and pushes and takes - but she rarely gives.

And Jinx, who would have garnered the nickname of the Loose Cannon and who would have healed at least somewhat from her fathers death had she been left alone for just a little longer, craves for more.

She needs those fragments of praise and acknowledgement, even when she understands, fundamentally, that Renata is merely using her to further her own goals.

And just when Jinx feels like she's drowning in a sump of her father's and Renata's creation, when she feels herself beginning to give more than she has, Piltover comes knocking with an invitation for the High Baron Jinx - but no one else.

A fancy Piltie party, to celebrate two whole years of Zaun's freedom.

And Jinx accepts. Because to not accept meant she was snubbing those snobbish pilties who gave her nation freedom, and that might make them revoke said freedom.

Oh, Jinx would make them fight for it, but even she knows that being the High Baron has only weighed down on her - Jinx would lose. She would lose pretty much any fight that came her way nowadays.

Because what was the point of winning? She'll just end up back in this too clean office, breathing its too filtered air and begging for scraps of attention and praise from her.

Even death was preferable to this.

Maybe, being away from all this would clear her head a bit.

Maybe, it might help her live again.

Arcane AU idea:

Set like six months before Episode 1.

There's a big decrease in loyal enforcers and the council notices so they make a new initiative. A Junior Enforcers Program.

Anyway Vander hears this, thinks it over, and submits his kids into the program. He just wants them to have a good life, okay. He wants them to not have to steal to get by and he wants them to not go hungry. This is their one chance to make it topside and have a better life than he could ever give them.

So the kids, despite hating enforcers with a passion, go and take this test to see if they'd be good enforcers in the future.

But only Vi and Powder pass.

So with great reluctance, the two agree to at least try.

First day there they meet Caitlyn. Caitlyn, who just wants to make friends with similar interests to her. Caitlyn, a bit of a loner because no one else in the program wants to talk with the heiress of an old elite family.

Cue Vi and Powder, two of the few undercity kids in the program.

Caitlyn looks at this pink-haired tomboy and thinks "Yeah, I want that one" and makes it her mission to befriend and possibly date her.

She wins Powder over easily enough by giving her sweets and food, but Vi is hella suspicious of her because topsiders always screw them over.

Anyway a comedy of miscommunication happens where Vi tries desperately to figure out why Caitlyn is trying so hard to talk to them. She comes up with wild af theories.

When in reality Caitlyn just has a big ol lesbian crush and is trying to suss out if Vi might like her back.

(Powder of course knows, but she's enjoying the drama too much lol)

Arcane AU of episode 3 onwards.

A kind of role reversal of Vi and Jinx.

After Vi, in her anger and grief, hits Powder, Powder runs away and is found by Marcus.

Marcus was expecting to find the elder sister, to lock her away and throw away the key because no matter how much he tries he can't bring himself to kill an innocent. And instead, he gets an armful of sobbing nine-year-old.

He can't just leave the kid. He knows that this is one of Vander's precious children. And Marcus made a promise to his mentor, to Grayson, to not involve the kids. He'd even made a deal with Silco to not involve innocents.

Though Silco already messed that deal up. Marcus had seen the children alongside Vander at the end.

If Marcus leaves this kid, she'd die. Silco was ruthless. He'd get information about her sister out of her and then kill her.

Although, by this point, the sister was likely already dead at Silco's hands.

Well, that makes his decision a bit easier.

So Marcus brings Powder to Piltover, and is the one to break the news that Vi, to his knowledge, is dead. Powder, now completely orphaned, agrees to stay with Marcus and his wife.

After about a year (during which Powder properly grieves and actually has time to cope with the death of everyone she's ever loved) she expresses an interest in attending the Academy when she's old enough.

On Powder's 12th birthday, Marcus surprises her by getting her a spot. Viktor, seeing this little kid from the Undercity (just like him), begins mentoring her. Eventually, he lets her help him and Jayce with HexTech.

Powder flourishes under their tutelage, and helps them develop HexTech further than they could imagine.

But then everything changes, when Jayce's good friend Caitlyn brings her something to look over. A gauntlet with a familiar design.

Powder and Caitlyn head into the Undercity to investigate.

And Powder's whole world comes crashing down around her.

Vi, feeling horrible regret after hitting Powder, can only watch as her sister runs off, scared. Of Vi.

She's left standing in the rain and smoke, surrounded by her dead family. Mylo. Claggor. Vander. All dead because of Vi. Because Vi wasn't fast enough or strong enough or smart enough to save them. And now she can add another name to that list.

She's effectively killed her own sister. Powder wouldn't survive on the streets. Her sister would starve to death or be murdered or worse and it'd be all Vi's fault.

Because she's a bad omen.

First her parents and then Mylo and Claggor and Vander and now Powder, all dead because of her.

She collapses and screams and sobs because everyone she's ever loved is dead and it's all her fault.

And then Silco walks up.

Silco's poised and ready for a fight, because this is Vander's Little Prodigy, and he knows that she'll fight until her last breath.

But she doesn't fight.

She just kneels there, hands gripping her head tightly, crying.

And Silco seizes his chance.

This broken child is the prize of her second-hand family, the last remaining vestige of Vander.

He cannot let this opportunity go.

Silco manipulates her; whispers honeyed poison into her ears; twists her vaunted 'good heart' into an unrecognizable mass of hatred; turns Violet into Omen.

And it's oh so easy.

Arcane AU idea:

so like a year or two pre-episode 4, Jinx messes up big time on a job. Silco, in a fit of anger, casts her aside. He regrets it once his anger is gone, but by that time Jinx has already dipped and set up shop somewhere else.

Anyway, cue vigilante Jinx being a petty little shit towards Silco and his men, and really messing all his plans up.

And Ekko sees this Jinx and is like, Powder? Because she's being slightly less lethal and a bit more like her old self. Like, they don't exactly work together but they do sometimes end up targeting the same Shimmer warehouse lol.

They also know the location of each other's bases. Jinx takes an injured Ekko back to her base and then later Ekko ends up bringing Jinx to his base.

They have dinner together at Ekko's every Friday by an unspoken agreement.

So, when Caitlyn busts Vi outta jail, Jinx isn't as mad as canon, and she and Vi actually get to talk out their feelings.

The fact that said talk happens while Vi is fighting Sevika isn't important. What's important is that they reconcile, and Jinx doesn't think Caitlyn is going to take Vi from her.

lmao just after cait frees vi, jinx bursts into silco's office all like "you lied to me?!" and silco has no idea what she's talking about because it's been like two minutes since the first vi v sevika fight. sevika hasn't returned yet.

jinx just screams at him for a few minutes before she dips again after realizing that he legitimately does not have a clue about what happened to vi.

anyway silco is very confused about the whole interaction, up until the injured sevika comes back.

he just goes "oh that's what she meant"

[OK so I have a ridiculous amount of Arcane AU ideas thought up. So I'm gonna start posting them.]

AU where the Vander v Silco fight/attempted homiecide/messy divorce happens like a week before the bridge incident. Silco isn't even fully healed when he hears of the peaceful bridge protest going horribly wrong, but he rushes off to see if everyone (cough, Vander, cough) was okay.

And on that bridge he stumbles upon two recently orphaned kids about to be shot by an enforcer. He saves these kids by killing the enforcer with like a scalpel or whatever that he stole off Singed. He then notices the two dead people nearby who look like these kids and despite how cold-hearted he tries to be, his heart wrenches at the sight of the eldest kid just completely breaking down (so much like Vander had all those years ago-)

So he takes these two kids back to Singed's lab, his home-base at the moment. As he walks plans form in his mind, and he notes uncomfortably that most of them centre around manipulating the shit out of these kids.

And yeah he'll do it, but like it takes him maybe six months to get irrevocably attached to these two little demon spawn, and most of those plans are thrown right tf out.

Silco at first manipulates them to hate Piltover with a passion, but he ends up caring for them like his daughters. He's not a good man or father, but he tries his best. The three trauma bond and form a codependency on each other.

They love each other, don't get me wrong, but it's toxic. Their entire relationship is hella unhealthy.

Silco projects himself and the Vander he loved on them a lot, leading to them being different from their canon selves.

Well, Powder ends up much the same just with less psychosis as she doesn't accidentally kill her entire family.

Vi however is different, and not in a good way. Silco twists her good heart into pure hatred for the topside and for Vander + his supporters, and exacerbates her battlelust.

So you have Powder, Silco's youngest daughter and demolitions expert, and Vi, Silco's eldest daughter and right hand. Both can and will fuck you up, and if they fail Silco will not. Everyone in Zaun knows them, and knows to stay out of their way.

Anyway TL;DR it's an AU where instead of Vander taking Vi and Powder from the bridge that day, it's Silco.

Bonus:

lmao just imagine sevika defects from vander, expecting to do something worthwhile at silco's side, and the first thing the man orders her to do is teach Vi how to fight properly.

so sevika is forced to teach this 14 year old how not to fight like a drunken brawler.

but then powder also wants to join in so now sevika has to show a 9 year old how to punch without breaking her fingers.

all while silco watches.

the unsaid threat of if you hurt them too badly i'll eviscerate you hangs over sevika's head like a guillotine.

Junior Enforcers AU Part 2:

Vander leads Vi and Powder into the testing area, and the judges look at this tall imposing man and the tough looking pink haired kid and just go "OK so just the one?" and Vander shakes his head and ushers out this adorable tiny blue haired girl from behind him.

The judges are super confused but like, the program is open for anyone 10 and older (even if this little kid doesn't look older than 7). Chances are the girl's just gonna fail anyway, no harm in letting her try, right?

So the judges present an academics test. Vi does decently well with an 85%, while Powder breezes through it and gets 100%.

A fluke, clearly. Just a smart kid, surely.

When Powder only gets a 50% hit ratio on the strength and fighting test, the judges feel vindicated. They were right! Shes just a smart kid. If the girl was any indication of the undercity, then Vi would likely get a similar score.

But Vi somehow manages a 100%, which should have been impossible. Okay, undercity kids are just a bit weird! Surely, on the next test they'll both fail, right?

After all, the undercity doesn't have access to firearms.

Right?

So they present a shooting test. Vi once again scores decently, 6/10 targets hit, earning her a place in the program.

But Powder. 10/10, all bullseyes.

The judges are dumbfounded. How had she managed to do it? She's clearly never held a real firearm before, based on her stance, but she did perfectly. And she didn't cheat, that was obvious enough.

They let her into the program, making her the youngest there. They can't let a prodigy like this just rot in the undercity! Who knows what would happen to her there!

And, once she's old enough, they'll offer her a place at the Academy. Surely, a kid as smart as Powder would jump at the chance to invent for the betterment of Piltover, right?

"Jinx?!" Ekko literally stumbles off his hoverboard, as the blue-haired girl comes into view. Jinx hadn't been seen on a job for nearly a month by this point. People were speculating that she'd died or something!

Jinx grins at him, "Well, well, well, look who it is! The Boy Saviour!" Ekko reaches for his bat, his eyes narrowing. Jinx frowns at him, hands twisting against the straps of her bag.

He draws his weapon, "What are you doing here? Guard duty?"

Her eyes roll, "Oh put that away, will you?" She drops the bag hanging off her shoulder and begins rifling through it. "I don't work with Silco anymore." Ekko blinks. Had he heard her correctly? Did she just say she doesn't work for Silco anymore?! How. Why. No. No, he clearly misheard her.

Ekko shakes his head, "Wait, what? What did you just say?"

Jinx quirks a brow, "I. Don't. Work. With. Silco. Anymore." She says, as if speaking to a child. "Geez, get your ears checked. I hear Mundo's been hanging around the lower sumps." Ekko shivers at the thought of the large purple man. Dr. Mundo was not a doctor, regardless of what he says. Especially considering his way of treatment. And by that, Ekko means the lack of. Mundo would just kill you.

"No thanks." Ekko mutters, sheathing his bat. "If you don't work for Silco anymore, why are you here?"

Jinx looks at him like he's stupid, "I'm going to blow this place up, Little Man. Silco had his shot and he blew it." She wiggles her fingers in a shooing motion, "Shoo, shoo. Go get your rebels outta here. This place is about to be ashes in…" She looks down at her bag, "Well, five minutes or so." She taps something in her bag, "Uh… make that three minutes. My bad." Something in the bag begins ticking loudly. "Oh! That's not good. Well, see ya li'l man!" She darts off in a panic, leaving the bag behind, and Ekko is quick to do the same, radioing his team as he goes.

If Jinx says it wasn't good and she's speaking of a bomb, then there's gonna be a hell of an explosion, and they needed to be clear of this place yesterday.

Petty Vigilante Jinx AU

A bullet lodges just above her head, and Jinx groans.

Blowing the shimmer warehouse up was supposed to take care of all the goons as well, but clearly something went wrong. Stupid Boy Saviour probably gave the thugs too much of a warning.

Another bullet impacts next to her arm.

'At least these guys are shit shots.'

"Can you at least try to aim correctly?!" She calls out, drawing her modified pistol out. Now that she's not under Silco's watch anymore, she could do all those stupid and dangerous mods on her weapons that he had forbidden. This current model should make her bullets explode on impact.

Hopefully.

There was about an 80% chance for the gun to just explode.

Jinx cackles, "Here's hoping this doesn't blow up in my face!" She darts out of her hiding spot and fires into the smoke. She hears a grunt before an explosion. "It worked!"

"You little rat." A familiar voice hisses, and Jinx nearly groans again. Just her luck.

She turns with a too-wide grin, "Sevika! Darling! It's been ages!" The older woman is glaring at her from just inside the ruined warehouse, her cloak torn and covered in ashes. In fact, she appears to be literally smoking. Was she on fire at one point? Jinx giggles, "Looking a bit toasty there!"

"I'm going to fucking kill you!" Sevika launches forward, and Jinx dips and weaves around her surprisingly sloppy punches. Did the explosion rattle her that badly? Oh, her head is bleeding. Probably concussed then.

"Hey, whoa! Calm down now!" Jinx says, as Sevika backs her up against a wall.

Sevika sneers down at her, "You should've just died like your sister!" Jinx twitches, studiously ignoring the way just mentioning Vi had summoned her ghosts.

"Low blow." She mumbles, glaring up at the woman. Sevika grabs her by the throat and hefts her up.

"If it wasn't for daddy dearest, I'd kill you right here, right now." Sevika hisses out between clenched teeth, "But I've got orders to take you alive." She grins, " 'course, he didn't specify how alive."

"Ominous!" Jinx quips, "But I'm afraid I have dinner plans. Maybe next time?" Sevika pulls back her mechanical arm. "I'm guessing that's a no?"

"What do you think?"

Jinx smiles, "I think I've stalled enough." She holds up two pulled pins, letting the grenades fall to the ground. "See ya."

The moment Sevika drops her in an effort to protect herself from the perceived oncoming explosion, Jinx scrambles up the wall behind her. She looks back down at Sevika, just in time to see her grenades explode in a shower of glitter and nails and smoke. With another giggle, she runs off.

Bonus Silco scene:

"How hard is it to find a single teenage girl?" Silco growls, glaring at the leaders of his many gangs.

"Sir, she blew up the east division factory. The entire warehouse is ashes." One of the leaders, a man with dirty blonde hair, says with a frown. "She also shot several members. Sevika was there, but Jinx pulled a grenade on her."

A glitter grenade, sure. But the grenade had nails in it. Sevika wouldn't be walking for another month, and she was still coughing up glitter.

The man continues, "She seems to be more unstable than before. And she seems to… well, hate us. A lot. It's almost on sight, you know?"

"Of course." Silco scowls. He rarely regrets things, but he regrets telling Jinx to leave and never return in a fit of rage. And it certainly seemed like Jinx had built a grudge over it, with the way she was targeting his shimmer factories. "If you spot her, follow her. I want to know where she is hiding out." He eyes his thugs seriously, "Do not harm her. If you hurt her, I will kill you. Understand?"

"Yes, sir!"
