🔥 have any thoughts on the “enemies to lovers” trope and its use or perception in storytelling?
it is my fav for ships sorry idc im a basic bitch i truly dont care like its sexy to me im sure i can pull some pretentious nonsense as to what this type of dynamic gives me even at a subconscious level out of my ass but like. idk what would qualify as a hot take. ig as much badly written garbage is attached to it (as with every other trope) ppl who try to be fringe and condescending about it make me roll my eyes lol. especially if its ridden with “oh those silly women and their cliche and overrated enemies to lovers dark romance 🙄” or lame psychoanalysis lmao. ofc ppl r very drawn to a dynamic that has conflict embedded into it like this bc it tends to be interesting for a story. two characters with drastically opposing ways of viewing and interacting with the world in a fundamental way will result in some kind of meaningful parallax and lead to a relationship with a lot of dynamism. it is a good vehicle for dealing with two characters as foils and parallels too and lead to a potentially interesting synthesis. theres also that feeling of them knowing each other very holistically or whatever. like ofc its popular all this makes for v fun interactions and dynamic on the surface
i also wont be trite here with “u guys only want defanged enemies to lovers that doesnt even qualify as that” bc ofc my preference tends to lean towards when its more brutal and #edgy or whatever but to be frank with u everything has been said and i only give a shit when ppl cry about shit being #problematic and idc if u like the version of it where its just office rivals hating and bickering w each other lol like sure i can see how it echoes the feelings i described above. i dont particularly care about treating these tropes as very strict labels and monoliths like we r at a point where i dont think we can restrict the definition of this by virtue of how it is in popular culture now and how the label functions in practice

"Day of the Jackal: Why Eddie Redmayne Couldn't Resist Returning to TV".
"I had massive trepidation," Redmayne tells emmy, but reading Ronan Bennett's scripts convinced him to join Peacock's adaptation of the classic thriller.
by Benji Wilson, for Television Academy, June 4, 2025.

In Frederick Forsyth’s classic thriller, The Day of the Jackal, the titular “Jackal” is a master of disguise. So when it came to casting Peacock’s TV adaptation, the first requirement was a lead actor who could transform .
“We all knew that Eddie Redmayne was a fantastically talented, ferociously intelligent actor who had chameleon-like qualities,” says director Brian Kirk (Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones). "But we were most taken with what he did in The Good Nurse; he was playing very aggressively in a contemporary space. And he was playing a character who was inherently unknowable and very dangerous — perfect for the Jackal.”
“With Eddie, it’s not just what you can do with prosthetics and how you can change looks, but also his physicality, his gait and all of those things,” says executive producer Nigel Marchant. “He has that ability for you to empathize with him, but then he can also play very, very cold. You believe he could be an assassin that can kill people. So, we were thrilled he came on board. It's an iconic role. We've got an iconic actor for it.”
In the last decade, Redmayne has played a transgender pioneer in The Danish Girl, a genius diagnosed with motor neuron disease in The Theory of Everything (for which he won the best actor Oscar), a gentle and eccentric wizard in the Fantastic Beasts film franchise and a psychotic serial killer in the Netflix film The Good Nurse. What he hadn’t dabbled in, at least since 2012’s Birdsong (a 2012 BBC limited series available on Netflix), was series television.
“All of it was slightly new to me,” Redmayne says, speaking from his home in the U.K., “because I hadn't done TV for a good decade.” But Redmayne, who was educated at Eton and Cambridge, is a fast study. “In that time, I'd watched friends work in television and seen shows like Succession and The White Lotus and become a massive fan of this ‘golden age.’ So I was always curious a bout how the system worked.”
Back in 2023, three scripts entitled The Day of the Jackal, written by Ronan Bennett, arrived in his inbox. “I had massive trepidation because I admired the original movie, but when I started reading them, I loved the fact that they were modern," Redmayne says.
Producer Christopher Hall (Showtrial, Bloodlands) explains how the series differs from the movie: “We're making 10 episodes, so it's a much bigger, richer canvas. It's the Jackal’s backstory; it's his personal life. In the film, you didn’t know who the Jackal was, even to the last frame. He’s on a mission to carry out a single hit, to kill [French President Charles] de Gaulle, but the Jackal himself is always a mystery and a cipher. Obviously, we play into that, but we do answer some of those questions.”
Bennett — whose latest show, MobLand, is on Paramount+ — has a very particular view of the world, according to Hall. “When you talk about AI writing scripts, I don’t think AI could come up with Ronan Bennett. He’s an original and a one-off. Look at [crime drama] Top Boy. He has that piercing intelligence and a particular worldview that’s really interesting. If I were to encapsulate his worldview, it’s that everyone has both good and evil in them. The Jackal is ultimately a sociopathic killer, but there’s something that we warm to in him enormously.”
In this series, the Jackal echoes classic action heroes, and for Redmayne that was part of the appeal. “This is a genre that I love, you know? The Bournes, the Bonds and those ’70s thrillers like The Parallax View — but it was never necessarily a genre that I thought would come my way.”
He says his success in roles such as Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything had sidelined him from consideration as a gun-toting action hero. “Sometimes people go, ‘Oh, you’re the sort of actor that always transforms,’ and I really was never that actor. I just got cast as Stephen Hawking and had to play a real person, and suddenly it’s that cliché that after something successful you get sent more of the same thing. It was, ‘You’re the guy that plays real people.’”
Ironically, playing the Jackal required multiple transformations, personas and prosthetics — but it was undoubtedly a move away from introverts in tweed jackets. “I love that he’s a more physical character. He’s a peacock,” Redmayne says. "I love that every time you see him, he’s wearing something different, going somewhere different."
Playing the Jackal required Redmayne to portray several different roles: He speaks German as a janitor who roams silently through the 30-minute, wordless opening scene; he plays an urbane family man back in his Cadiz villa with his wife, Nuria (Úrsula Corberó, Money Heist, Snatch); he jousts and parries with Bianca Pullman, an MI5 operative played by Lashana Lynch (The Marvels, No Time to Die).
He also had another role on this production: executive producer. Being an exec on a TV show is often a trophy title, but Redmayne was a committed and passionate fan of the original story, and of English actor Edward Fox, who starred in the 1973 film. So if he was going to be an EP and the star, he wanted to do The Day of the Jackal justice.
“Control freakery,” is how Redmayne describes his character type, adding, “There’s a control freakery to the Jackal that perhaps bled into my producorial role.”
Tumblr media
In film, the director is usually the control freak, the person in charge. But The Day of the Jackal runs 10 episodes with four different directors using different cinematographers and multiple noncontiguous locations. (A second season has been greenlit.)
"That was all new to me, and I wanted to understand how one found the continuity, or who was overseeing the whole thing," Redmayne recalls. “The answer was: There were tons of eyeballs on it, but it became clear that for Lashana and I, we were the continuity — we were the tissue between it all.”
According to Corberó, being that connective tissue meant a lot of hard work for Redmayne during the shoot. “I was a little bit worried about him, because he was carrying all the pressure. He was shooting every day, spending hours putting on all these prosthetics. It was hard work. I remember, at like 9 p.m., he was texting me asking, ‘Should we rewrite the scene for tomorrow?’ So we were having a lot of conversations.”
Corberó says Redmayne is demanding of himself and of other people. “But the craziest thing is that at the same time — maybe it’s because he’s British — he knows how to do it in an elegant way. He’s charming. And he fights for you. I know that I’m in this show because of him, because he was the one who insisted, ‘We need Úrsula for this.’ I will always be grateful to Eddie for that.”
Corberó’s role in the drama is a new one, but a vital one. As the Jackal’s wife, Nuria, she adds a home life, a backstory and a modicum of compassion to a character who in the book and film is just a stern-eyed shadow. “Nuria is the Jackal’s weakness,” she says. “It’s good for the viewers to see him being a very bad man, like super professional and dangerous, but then just being afraid of his wife. I think that’s what humanizes the Jackal.”
Humanizing the Jackal was the intention from the outset, Redmayne says. “The archetype of the empathy-less assassin whose blood runs cold couldn’t work in this version.” Television demands character depth. This new telling of the Jackal’s story offers explanations for why he is how he is. “We have him as a family man with a military background. Is he also sociopathic? I believe there was a juncture in his life from which point he has held those two things at the same time,” Redmayne says.
Part of the puzzle that Bennett’s scripts unlock is the Jackal’s logic of empathy. How does he square his love for his young child with the brutal demands of his job?
“He had assumed he would be alone all his life, and that’s how he was always going to function,” Redmayne says. “And yet when he meets Nuria and is floored by her charisma, you know that it’s an Achilles heel. When we meet him, he’s made a huge amount of money, he’s married with a child and he wants this to end. He’s lied to his wife from the word go but thinks he can wrap it up if this thing ends, so they can start a new life. And that’s his weakness as an assassin. We’ve been leaning into their love for each other and his love for his kid. That’s really important, and I hope that, again, what slightly differentiates the piece is that you’ll believe all that and you’ll care.”
The Day of the Jackal is executive-produced by writer Ronan Bennett along with Gareth Neame, Nigel Marchant, Sam Hoyle, Sue Naegle, Brian Kirk and Eddie Redmayne. The series is a production of Carnival Films, part of Universal International Studios, a division of Universal Studio Group.

megapost of commentary on the watcher dlc that ill keep editing multiple times below the read more hehe
Tumblr media
HOLY FUCKING SHIT THIS IS THE BEST TITLE SCREEN ART EVER. the nice blue and purple ooough.. and what are those glittery moth things. they remind me of the way the batflies get turned into white pixies in the random buff mod
i always stare at the cutscene art so much bc it looks so nice and yet so simple. the parallax and blur effects make it so much more than just cutscenes. god i love the cutscene artworks
spent a lot of time fucking around (going up and turning back at the industrial complex region) and died to rain bc i didnt really see much point in saving just yet. oh well
i also completely forgot about the echo vision. which im gguessing, like saint, i have to find an echo. oops
Also Also one. annoyed that i cant eat meat and two. Why are there king vultures. AND why is that industrial complex region supposedly not behind a gate A N D why does it look like a bottomless pit though i think it isnt bc it doesnt have the famous pit gradient. god i miss the screen peek mod
i also just realized there are no batflies nearby?? rain world without batflies. can you fucking imagine. how
ITS THE SECOND DLC WHY ARE THE SHELTERS STILL THESE SHITTY BOXES. MAKE BETTER SHELTERS!!!! RAAAAGH
Tumblr media
release me wench!! (i injured them and am awaiting the once present scavs to come back for some reason) -> i died lol
ok well i explored all pipes and it seems the only way is to go to the IC pit apparently. wack. i dont remember whether downpour named the starting regions or not. i wonder if i could go back up the intro ledge with a squidcada
ah. it really was just a named starter area. always cute when they do this thing of using an out of bounds part of a vanilla room as part of a 'new' region
went straight to chimney canopy since ic doesnt have an echo and im assuming this is a future timeline where pebbles is dead or collapsing. also the echo sent me to a room that wasnt rot-infected before yet it is now. dunno what to make of that
Tumblr media
eww. what the fuck is this pulsating thing. if i can ill bring it to a shelter and see if it hatches or something bc apparently it tastes bad. also why are there so many bugs everywhere. good lird <- brought to a shelter and slept. nothing happened. i gguess theyre just rotted? or have bugs in them? they only exist in areas with a lot of bugs so..
ok. everything is rotten and a lot of regions are lost to rotten pipes. and the mysterious echo replaced all the others and theres fucking bugs everywhere. nasty! its not even blue rot, its the purple rot. i dont remember what campaign has the purple rot tbh. rivulet i think? it keeps sending me to the same place and im getting annoyed at the back tracking, but i also think the echo doesnt want me bothering it apparently?
Tumblr media
OOOOOOOOO
oh god the lizards are rotting.
torrential highways! i can inside the little wagons! awww
Tumblr media
FINALLY a different shelter. get real
oh wow. straight up portals. inchresting. hello coral caves
AETHER RIDGE LETS FUCKINGG GOOOOOOO <- i forgot about the annoying wind mechanic. nevermind
Tumblr media
WHAT IS THIS CUTE THING???
OH MY GOD YOU CAN EAT THEM NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! theyre so cutes..
ah. i believe ive been poisoned
Tumblr media
gonna give this thing the time of its life
ok well clearly theres these purple signal hotspots that need Something to be done to them but other than that i feel very clueless. gguess ill just fuck around anhd find out. tomorrow. im tired
my spiky slug guy simply despawned from my shelter. rip lil dude
Tumblr media
huh. at first i thought they were like batteries, but then i thought they looked like test tubes and. well
Tumblr media
speared this guy to see if they were unkillable like those damned frogs but erm? poison spear? and they didnt die either lol <- ok well they survive one hit but not two. and the one lizard i hit with the spear died so cant really say if its poisonous or not
Tumblr media
i thought the yellow ring meant i already got the echo in the region but its absolutely the contrary and i was going crazy in rusted wrecks for no reason. theres always this one stupid obvious thing i get wrong. sigh. also there were so few rooms with a sand ground which is kinda sad.. i hope the snowy ground region has the same or more amount of rooms
badlands has been the most impressive so far though the moths are an absolute pain in the ass. i saw a scav use a spore puff though which is really cool. i never saw them do that even in downpour or arena, i wonder if its part of the dlc <- also i immediately lefft bc i found the echo in the first like 7 rooms lol. will go back later. heat is not my element
Tumblr media
oh god what have i done <- food. yummy but also gross. ew
Tumblr media
whoag.. floating whale.. also why did the echo marking in the map icons disappear. am i nearing the end?
Tumblr media
go, my flying horsies
oh wow that was actually the intended solution to get to the other side. fucking awesome <- nevermind, you can grasp their whiskers apparently. neat either way
im atop the right(if there is another one?) tower in this pink region and im convinced theres literally no other way to get up here. i had to do trickshots off vultures bc there really seems like no other way. considering i was meant to grab the whiskers there i can only guess there HAS to be another way but. how on earth???
what the hell is the deal with this echo girl. whats up with her. is anything gonna make sense ever
Tumblr media
WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME!!!! WAAAAAAUUUGHGUAAAGH
ok read the wiki and i dont have the karma for that. also i started today at 11h in the save and am kinda pissed i dont know where to go. eventually found the portal to unfortunate development though but im still annoyed i couldnt just make new portals -_-
Tumblr media
there seems to be a rotted leviathan in the walls and somehow the pips indicate Something will happen at the end of the cycle.. scary
went to the left side of outer rim for absolutely nothing apparently. must be some kind of end game thing. but i do like the sandy part of the region quite a bit! i wonder what all the green glitter is though.
machine riser started playing help. scary. scared
ok theres fucking nothing in these towers apparently. well there was one of those waypoint markers that i cant do anything about but i had to just jump off bc the cycles are so small. annoyed rn
not sure if its a glitch but it seems slugcat is getting used to eating the rotten fruits? sometimes they faint sometimes not, but the times they do the stun seems to take less time. inchresting <- nevermind, eating rotten popcorn it just seems the stuns are uncommongly faster. sometimes
Tumblr media
dude. that's where i already am. what
Tumblr media
IVE ALREADY BEEN HERE WHY. WHYYYY. i dont have enough 'ripple' for that!!!! ughhhh. i am gonna mouse drag and do whatever i want this is so annoying
welp apparently ive explored the entire region already and didnt get anything from it. i guess all i can do now is go to other echo-marked regions apparently.
ive gotta say that while all the regions have been neat the fact that youre just a cowardly survivor is really really boring. this wouldve been fine if it was the first dlc but like, this really has been a walking simulator more than anything. i dont think ive really been enjoying it. there isnt any history for any of the regions (that i know of so far) so they really are entirely disconnected and hard to care about :/

9. Do you write smut?
Yes, I really enjoy it for so many reasons
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
Oh, I like crossovers. I think the current one with Matrix can be called crossover and it’s the craziest
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not YR
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
They requested but never sent me a link so idk :(
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No, but I would like to!
14. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I have one WIP that already is 30k long, about Wilhelm’s and Simon's alternative first meeting
Another one about a university trip.
And the current one, Parallax.
I really want to finish the last one and the trip au. They seem fun
15. What are your writing strengths?
Idk, really liking the process? haha
I've been told that I can immerse people in a scene. Make them feel, sense. Light, textures, tastes, scents.
16. What are your writing weaknesses?
Easily getting stuck in a loop of self-sabotage, thinking that my ideas can just stay in my head, there is no need to write fanfics at all
17. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
Yes, I think I’m going to use Spanish for Simon one day. In that WIP about their first meeting I mentioned above, it was a few lines already
18. First fandom you wrote for?
K-pop
19. Favourite fic you’ve written?
Million Miles an Hour, I put a part of my soul in it
~~~
I think everyone did it. So if you see it and you want to participate, you can add me as the one who tagged you!
The Ragnarök in G Minor playlist
So! Now Ragnarök in G Minor (part 19 of 20 in my Iron-Blooded Orphans post-canon fanfic series Wishing on Space Hardware) is finally posted in full, I thought I'd share the full list of songs quoted at the end of each chapter. Mainly because I used a draft of this post as a way to keep track of all the YouTube links I needed and, well, it'd be a shame to let it go to waste.
This will contain some spoilers for WoSH overall, since where applicable, I'm naming the characters the songs relate to (along with the chapter titles, which are attempts to sum those characters up in a single word). Thus, a cut, to save anyone who wants to dive into the fics unspoilered (I am completing the series with fic #20 in a week's time, so now is an excellent time to do precisely that, if you're up for joining me for 650,000 words of complicated feelings about one of the best shows I've ever had the pleasure of watching).
The spider clock with its eight hands were almost in sync as Xizzle anticipated the most famous, intellectual, and pivotal whatershed of music: Kiss! The band from a tiny backwater planet was about to play in a momentous concert and Xizzle had to time everything perfectly for the light year jump or he could be off for days, even longer if his calculations were off by a random integer.
The two foot tall weevil looking creature waddled up to his scorpion shaped spaceship, the stinger rotating until the self replicating energy gave enough fuel, and he warped across the universe at a breezy speed.
In the midst of black space and white stars going past like parallax scenery, he pulled the breaks after seeing the puzzle in front of him with an impromptu asteroid field collected debris from a green and pink UFO of spilled psychedelic material. With time on the line and nary a different route, Xizzle used the ship's pincers to avoid the giant rocks and put together the trippy junkpile in a jigsaw puzzle of connecting parts. Satisfied with the result of a space van, he chucked it aside and traveled through the galactic highway to earth.
Vrenf o'clock, he had to rock! He came closer to the Milky Way and fluttered his wings in excitement. A concert of a lifetime in his way and the blue planet coming closer as he slowed down the acceleration. His confidence changed to confusion as the planet was there but there were no humans at all. He checked the solar system's calendar and his worst fear came true: he was too late and arrived after the End.
Xizzle threw a tantrum, jumping up and down in rage over that earlier traffic jam, but it soon gave way to sadness over missing a spectacular event. The loss of humanity was also a bummer he shrugged. He paused, reflected, and accepted this tragedy and was about to dial the clock back.
"Hold it."
Xizzle heard a strange, echoing sound but he looked around to see nothing. But the sound came back and he looked behind him to see four figures.
"I see you've seen the utter demise of our mystical, magical planet," said an ethereal Paul Stanley. "Fear not, my little alien friend."
"You probably got a lot of questions," Peter Criss continued, "but I don't think your species is ready to know the secrets of humanity and 70s rock n roll."
"So let's stop talking and get out there and play to a new audience," Gene Simmons yelled with boldness.
Ace Frehley merely laughed like a rock n roll clown.
With newfound zest for music, Xizzle traveled back to his planet and brought Kiss with him, playing the farewell tour of earth and the Come in Peace Tour of this new world. The people were pleased and clamored with vibrating lubrubs.
"Are you ready to rock, people of Gylfrinax!"
The weevil aliens rejoiced in this up close concert, Mozarts and Bachs to them all, and we're proud to have these giants play radio friendly pop rock songs. Time waits for no man. But for Xizzle, it brought a pleasant gift.
The Doors of Eden review: A gripping alternative biology tech-thriller
By Jacob Aron 2 March 2020
You never quite know what to expect from a new Adrian Tchaikovsky novel, but you can safely assume it will involve sentient creepy-crawlies. The British sci-fi and fantasy author memorably brought a civilisation of intelligent spiders to life in the award-winning Children of Time, but his latest book, The Doors of Eden, takes this idea one further, uplifting species across the whole of Earth’s evolutionary history.
Or rather, histories. Tchaikovsky’s world-building is some of the best in modern sci-fi and now he has made an enchanting multiverse of parallel Earths.
The main narrative starts small with two young women on the hunt for cryptids, mysterious animals like the Loch Ness monster, but expands to encompass MI5 agents, a chain-smoking trans mathematician and a shadowy businessman. All of them are drawn together to face a coming crisis: things have increasingly begun to cross over from other timelines, putting every universe at risk.
Interspersed throughout the book are vignettes of these other Earths, each taking a branch of evolution as their jumping off point. It is impossible to pick a favourite, though highlights include a species of mudskipper-like fish that upload their minds into ice-bound supercomputers and a world in which descendants of cats rule over primates through a souped-up version of the Toxoplasma gondii parasite.
As a sci-fi premise, it isn’t entirely new – reading The Doors of Eden, I had echoes of the Long Earth series by Terry Pratchett and Stephen Baxter, along with the Neanderthal Parallax trilogy by Robert J. Sawyer – but Tchaikovsky’s combination of techno-thriller and alternative biology had me hooked.
It is a book brimming with ideas, taking in climate change, Brexit and English nationalism along the way, but it never feels overstuffed. One twist towards the end of the novel even managed to send a shiver down my spine and put a smile on my face at the same time.
     "One day, you'll be gone." The deep, echoing voice tells the lantern, and he screams. In fear, in pain, in frustration, he didn't know. He's in a void in his mind, the large glowing monster stalking around him, the only source of light in this godforsaken darkness.
     "Stop!" Fireclaw snaps, eyes raw and irritated, face damp and stained from crying.
     "There's nothing you can do!" The monster taunts, and the Levanixian screams again, "Stop it!"
     He feels sick, like he's going to puke, and he feels numb, like he doesn't exist. His eyes feel like they're on fire, his vision is blurry, breathing shallow and ragged, hiccuping time to time as he cowers down again, covering his head with his forepaws. "Stop," Fireclaw begs weakly, voice hoarse from the ordeal. "Please, Parallax. Stop."
     "There's a way to stop it," Parallax starts, voice low as he stalks closer to the broken lantern. "But you're too afraid," the entity curls around Fireclaw, thin tail lightly gripping the tom as the beast leans over his shoulder. "It's rather interesting that fear has kept you alive, yet fear will be you and your love's undoing."
     Fireclaw snaps at the smallest mention of Sinestro, forming a weak construct based in rage instead of fear, lashing out against Parallax with a hoars yowl. The entity de-matieralizes immediately, before forming again behind the lantern, a safe distance away. Fireclaw looks around in a panicked rage before his eyes land on the beast, just sitting there watching him, an unamused expression on his face.
     "Why are you doing this?" Fireclaw asks, tone begging for answers. "Why are you so obsessed with tormenting me? Breaking me?"
     Both lantern and entity were silent, Fireclaw lowering his head after a while. He'd cry more, but he's got nothing left to give. Parallax continued to stare silently at the Levanixian, still seemingly unamused. When next Parallax spoke, his tone was different. Calm, almost remorseful, and not as loud or menacing. "I'm trying to help you."
     Fireclaw shivered, taking a shaking breath, eyes watering but unable to cry. "None of this helps," he whispered. "How is this help."
     "You'll grow numb to your fears," Parallax explained. "You'll learn to accept them, embrace them, instead of push them away, instead of fighting them."
     Again, both fell silent. Parallax could feel red bubbling up in his aura. If he were the entity Nekron, he'd surely see it instead.
     Fireclaw took another shaking breath. "I don't want to die," he told the entity, who sat unphased. "I don't want to lose Sinestro, I don't want to change, I don't want to grow old. I don't want things to change. I want everything to stop- I wish everything would stop," Fireclaw rambled, voice picking up in speed and volume, before he snapped his head up, his ears pinned to his head. "I wish you would stop!"
     "When you accept me, I will stop." Parallax told the lantern, now annoyed. "Or, you'll just become numb to my methods."
     Fireclaw once again screamed in pain, hands on his head as he arched his back in pain or in frustration, or both. Parallax resumed stalking slowly around the poor cat, returning to the menacing tone he had before. "Nobody can save you, Fireclaw. Scream and beg all you want, there is no escape from me or your fate!"
     The cruel grin was back on Parallax's face, claws clicking on the non-existent ground each step he took. "Time will not stop no matter how much you pray for it to, and neither will I!" Parallax lunged, pinning the Levanixian to the ground under a massive clawed hand, a pained, frightened, weak cry ripped from the tom's chest.
     "Sinestro!" the lantern sobbed weakly, eyes shut tight and head turned away from the beast above him. Parallax snarled, and Fireclaw cowered, raising his hands in a pathetic attempt to defend himself from a strike. "Help me!"
     "No!" Parallax roared, making the orange feline shake and whimper. "Sinestro can't help you! Not this time!" and that had pulled another sob from the cat. "Nobody can save you from me!"
     "Get out of my head!" Fireclaw cried, trying now to free himself from Parallax's hold. Useless, but, he can't be told by this beast that he didn't try.
     "No!" the entity roared again, tightening his grip upon Fireclaw and making him wheeze. "You'll never be free of me, Fireclaw! Even if Sinestro rips me from your soul himself, I will always be here, in the back of your mind, repeating our wonderful little song and dance every night until the day you die!"
     And Fireclaw screamed again, a sob following, though this was different. This one echoed faintly, and the tom felt something soft and warm and comforting below him and sunk his claws into it. He tried to cling to it as if his life depended on it, but shrieked in fear and despair as Parallax ripped him away from it. Parallax was off put by the echo, knowing exactly what it meant.
     Will fading, Fireclaw turned to clinging to one of Parallax's claws, rubbing his head against it in a weak, desperate attempt to make himself feel safe, feel some degree of comfort. He was crying again now, having regained enough stamina for that.
     "Just because Sinestro can do something doesn't mean you can." Parallax taunted, knowing that'd make Fireclaw cry harder, and it did. "You're weak, just as your mother said. No backbone. Overreacting. Always worried about things that shouldn't be worried about. Things you can't change."
     Fireclaw had no energy to fight or scream for help anymore, he just clung to Parallax's claw and sobbed, sometimes begging for Parallax to stop, other times begging for Sinestro to save him from this demon.
     "You'll leave this universe and it will carry on without you," Parallax told Fireclaw, ignoring the tom's sobs. "Isn't that terrifying? And imagine, nobody will remember you when you're gone! You have, and will never have, a legacy. You're twenty years old, and have done nothing worth while for your home. Pathetic!"
     The Levanixian's sobs have become weak, and he feels as though he's going to fall asleep. There's a warmth he feels on his face, like he'd buried his face into a pillow or blanket, and instinct has him rubbing his face against Parallax.
     "You're a disappointment to everyone you know." The entity continues to taunt. "Nobody you know truly cares for you, especially Sinestro." And Fireclaw is crying with renewed energy. Parallax gives him just a small moment before he's thrown the cat across the void, swiftly following.
     "You will lose everything and everyone you love!" The entity roared, sliding to a stop above Fireclaw. "If not by my hand or the hand of time, but by your own! And I will make you watch as I ruin your life! You will watch as I use your claws, your fangs, to rip the life from Sinestro!"
     If nothing else broke him, that did. The thought of Sinestro dying terrified him as much as his own future and death did. Fireclaw screamed again, curling up on his side, knees tucked close to his chest, hands covering his ears, form shaking.
     "Stop it," the ginger Levanixian begged weakly, shaking, his voice having the faintest echo. "Stop it, please. No more."
     "I will never stop. When you're on your deathbed, I will be there. I will make you question every choice you've ever made, I will make you fear every last second of your life. Your last breath will be laced with fear, and then your light will fade." Ironic, Parallax speaks of light fading as he himself fades away, giving way to pure darkness.
     "Fear is everywhere, Fireclaw. And so am I."
     The silence that follows Parallax's last words is nearly as deafening as his roars, and Fireclaw lays there, shaking and crying in the darkness and silence, but things start feeling more solid.
     Slowly, Fireclaw becomes aware of himself, of his surroundings. He doesn't feel as numb anymore, and the floor isn't hard. It's soft, warm, and if he could smell right now, it'd smell of gentle spices and woods of some sort that he couldn't think of the names of in his state, but would know he knows. Dry and earthy and familiar and comforting.
     A familiar voice shushes him gently, and Fireclaw is now aware of two arms around him and a form in front of him, his face pressed into the soft cloth covering it. He's now aware of a hand rubbing gentle circles in the fur at the base of his skull, close to one of his ears. The other hand gently scratching his back, just between his shoulder blades.
     He tries to speak, but his breath is so shaky that whatever he was trying to say is rendered incoherent by his breathing. He's hushed gently again, and there's words that follow, the voice so familiar and gentle and comforting that Fireclaw can't help but listen. He buries his face into the form in front of him, trying to get as close as he possibly can, and he feels the arms on him gently tighten as he shifts.
     The tom hears noise, but can't process it. It's quiet, that's all he knows, and it's followed by a gentle, kind, feminine voice. Familiar, just like the voice of the form in front of him. The two voices talk, but Fireclaw can't understand anything. His mind is mush, and it makes him uneasy.
     He feels a weight on his forehead, just between his eyebrows, and it stays there for a few moments, before shifting. It's a comforting gesture, and it works. Between the hand on his back, the hand on the back of his head, the smaller hand that is now on his shoulder rubbing small circles with the thumb, and the weight on his forehead, the Levanixian's breathing levels out.
     "Sin-!" Fireclaw manages to choke out, before his breathing picks up again. Sinestro gently shushes the cat, and he nestles his face into the soft turtleneck sweater that Sinestro was wearing.
     "I'm here," Sinestro says gently, but is immediately followed by a loud, deafening "ALWAYS HERE." from Parallax, echoing in Fireclaw's ears only. The exhausted cat flinched with a pained and frightened whimper, hands moving to cover his ears.
     The Levanixian feels a hand cover his own and gently rub small circles, and notices that the hand on his shoulder had moved. It takes a while before Fireclaw relaxes again, his hands falling from his ears and his eyelids heavy with exhaustion. He hears Sinestro say something, gentle and worried, but he doesn't have the energy to care what the worried Korugarian had said.
     Fireclaw didn't have the energy to protest as Sinestro moved to sit him up, propped up with pillows against the headboard. He also didn't have the energy to fight being made to drink, though he was thankful for it after. Once he drank, he started to regain some energy, able to think easier and process things.
     After a few moments, and a few more sips of water, Fireclaw is once again nestled up next to Sinestro, head buried between himself and Sinestro's chest.
     Soranik runs her fingers through Fireclaw's fur, sometimes pausing to scratch behind his ear before continuing to comb through the thick dark ginger fur. "It was Parallax again, wasn't it?" she asks gently, and Fireclaw weakly nods. The young doctor gives her father a worried and sympathetic look, and he sighs softly before once again resting his head atop Fireclaw's.
     Sinestro kisses the feline's forehead again and then rests there, closing his eyes as he holds his love close. Soranik sighs and gives Fireclaw's shoulder a gentle pat. "I'll see you later, buddy." the doctor says before standing up. "When he's more alert, I want you to bring him to the medical center. I need to make sure he's alright, at least physically."
     Fireclaw had no response, but Sinestro gave a hum in agreement. Before Soranik left, she gently tossed the blanket that had been shoved to the side and the floor over the two, getting a quiet, genuinely appreciative "Thank you" from her father.
     It wasn't long before Fireclaw had drifted off to a light state of sleep again, but Sinestro remained awake and by his side, holding the feline close and watching over him as he slept.
honor
from Stellar Parallax, Chapter 4: Unfortunate Things
“What, accept the risk of death every time we do something stupid and go to the fucking spirits with grace and dignity and honor, and accept it when our loved ones get offed fighting someone else’s war?” Nihlus scoffed. “Some do. Cid’s dad did. Venari… he already had issues with Spectres, and losing a rookie and his niece to one bullet didn’t help.”
leave
from The Unlikely Adventures of Bitchface and Go F*ck Yourself, Interlude I: Rolling in the Deep
And in the icy crush of the deepest ocean – besides the trenches, but no one spoke of the trenchfolk – lurked the abyssals, blind, carnivorous, and bloodthirsty when hungry. They were always hungry. The midnight merfolk did their best to keep them in their hellish abyss, but sometimes a few slipped by, leaving unspeakable carnage in their wake.
leak
from Between a Rock and a Hard Place, Chapter 20: Dissent/Descent
My room was exactly as I’d left it, save for the rumpled covers — had Dad been sleeping in there? Guilt settled heavy and sour in my gut. Curling up beneath my faded comforter did nothing to banish it as I found myself surrounded by whisky and cigarette smoke and echoes of laughter I’d never hear again. I was just going to rest my eyes, but when I opened them again, the only light in the room was the sliver that leaked beneath the door from the hallway.
combine
from Blinding Neon, Shades of Grey, Chapter 8: Match in the Powder Barrel
Kaleb’s threshold for bad is much higher – he’s been on the force longer, seen more violence than the three of them combined, knows the depths of human depravity and cruelty. Frankie braces herself for the worst as she slogs down the flooded hallway. The smell of blood hits her before she even reaches the door.
heat
from Between a Rock and a Hard Place, Chapter 19: This is Everything I Never Wanted
Silence. The damp summer heat closed in around me as the air around us fell still again. Watching. Waiting for the same answers I’d begged for year after year.
mirror
from Stellar Parallax, Chapter 2: Red Fish, Blue Fish
“You survived because you’re lazy?” Ashley seethed. Jane heard her grunt quietly as Alenko most likely mirrored John’s hold. Fuck them. “You ditch work,” Jane spat, “then you cower back here and do nothing while the geth butcher everyone else! Do you know how many good men and women I lost in this attack? How many of them I had to put down again myself?”
The Empire starts building their own robots and deploys them during their battles against the Resistance in outer space, but they are too ineffective and faulty to last long. After Overlord Master is defeated and the his spaceship docks, a surge goes through the entire ship, activating the brothers Pointy, Crusader and Splendor and granting them sentience. Light of Aether - Original Story:
This story does not exist yet. Not outside of a large document, that is. It is about the life and struggle of a society of alien cyborgs, inspired by five different franchises (Metroid, Transformers, Astral Chain, Tron, Warrior Cats). The original idea was actually a Transformers x Sailor Moon crossover my cousin and I came up with, and then we just took the parts we contributed to it and made it our own thing. She created a magical girl story, I wrote about cyborgs and space and war.
In the end, I might never publish anything about it, but my OCs still exist and bits of them they carry over to all the other franchises as well, such as their names, their personality, their concept and more. And I intended for the main character to have an over-the-top name, because I found it funny and I really don't want to change it. It is ridiculous, but I love it.
Top 10 Trends in Architecture Website Design for 2025
Tumblr media
Introduction
In an industry as visually and conceptually rich as architecture, a firm's website is more than just a digital presence—it’s a reflection of its design philosophy. As we move into 2025, the expectations from an Architecture Website Design are evolving rapidly. From immersive technologies to AI-powered interfaces, modern architectural firms must embrace cutting-edge design trends to stay ahead. Here are the top 10 trends that are defining architecture websites in 2025.
1. Immersive Visual Storytelling with 3D and AR
Architecture firms are embracing 3D visualization and Augmented Reality (AR) to offer visitors a tangible experience of their designs. Integrating WebGL-based 3D walkthroughs or AR previews directly into the site allows users to explore buildings virtually—an invaluable feature for both residential and commercial clients. These tools not only impress but also communicate spatial design in ways static images never could.
2. Minimalist and Brutalist Design Aesthetics
In 2025, Architecture Website Design is leaning heavily into minimalist and brutalist visual languages. Minimalism focuses on space, clean typography, and intentional use of white space—echoing architectural design principles. Brutalism, on the other hand, uses raw aesthetics, asymmetry, and grayscale tones to project authenticity and edge. When executed well, these styles enhance user experience while aligning with a studio’s design ethos.
3. AI-Powered Personalization and Smart Navigation
Artificial Intelligence is not just transforming building design; it’s reshaping how users interact with architecture websites. AI-powered personalization tools analyze visitor behavior to present relevant projects, blog posts, or services. Smart navigation adapts in real time, offering predictive search, voice assistance, and tailored content paths—making the browsing experience seamless and intuitive.
4. Mobile-First, Responsive Interfaces
With mobile traffic surpassing desktop across most industries, mobile-first strategies are essential in modern Architecture Website Design. In 2025, responsive layouts are expected to be paired with progressive web app features—offering offline access, faster load times, and push notifications. These interfaces ensure architects remain accessible to clients anytime, anywhere.
5. Sustainability-Centric Design Elements
As sustainability becomes a core focus in architecture, firms are reflecting this commitment through their digital presence. Websites now highlight sustainable practices using green UI palettes, eco-icons, and sections dedicated to energy-efficient projects. Even subtle animations are used to visualize metrics like carbon reduction, recycled materials, or solar energy use—aligning design ethics with digital storytelling.
6. Cinematic Scroll and Microinteractions
Microinteractions and scroll-based animations are turning static websites into cinematic storytelling platforms. As users scroll, parallax effects, dynamic project transitions, and interactive background elements create a fluid narrative. These features make Architecture Website Design more immersive, encouraging longer session times and better engagement with the portfolio.
7. Integrated Project Showcases with Real-Time Filters
Gone are the days of static galleries. Architecture websites in 2025 showcase dynamic portfolios powered by AJAX-based real-time filtering. Visitors can sort projects by category, location, size, or material. CMS integrations like headless WordPress or Strapi enable teams to update the site easily without sacrificing performance or aesthetics.
8. Advanced SEO and Core Web Vitals Compliance
A beautiful website is of little use if it can’t be found. In 2025, Architecture Website Design prioritizes Core Web Vitals—Google's performance metrics around loading speed, interactivity, and visual stability. Advanced on-page SEO strategies include schema markup for projects, optimized alt-text for high-res visuals, and AI-generated meta content that boosts discoverability.
9. Voice Search and Conversational UI
With the rise of smart devices, voice search is transforming user behavior. Architecture websites are now integrating voice-enabled search bars, AI chatbots, and conversational UIs that assist in navigation, lead capture, and answering FAQs. These features enhance accessibility for differently-abled users while modernizing user interaction.
10. Cloud-Enabled Collaboration and Client Portals
One of the most impactful trends is the use of cloud infrastructure to enable client portals. These secure spaces allow clients to view project progress, timelines, or documents. Built using technologies like Firebase or Supabase, these portals bridge the gap between client communication and real-time design updates—making Architecture Website Design a collaborative platform rather than just a portfolio.
Conclusion
The future of Architecture Website Design is driven by interactivity, personalization, and performance. In 2025, firms that adopt these trends not only stand out visually but also deliver value through user-centric digital experiences. By investing in the right technologies and design strategies, architecture firms can transform their websites into powerful business tools.
baby you're a haunted house
read it on AO3 at https://ift.tt/i43myna by magnolia_cowboy The Spectre's newest host, former Green Lantern Hal Jordan, secretly visits the Watchtower, thinking he has the place to himself. Unfortunately, his ex-coworker thinks the same. “Bruce?” Bruce stiffens in his chair at the sound of the voice. The constant echoing of his name means it can only be one person. “Jordan,” he growls out, standing from his chair. He hovers one hand over a weapon at his belt, ready to incapacitate the man if he makes a move. “Spectre,” he corrects himself. Hal Jordan is dead and has been for a long time. “What the hell are you doing here?” Words: 3111, Chapters: 1/1, Language: English Fandoms: Justice League - All Media Types, Justice League of America (Comics), Batman - All Media Types, Green Lantern - All Media Types Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Categories: M/M Characters: Hal Jordan (Green Lantern), Bruce Wayne, Aztar | The Spectre (DCU), Parallax (DCU) Relationships: Hal Jordan (Green Lantern)/Bruce Wayne Additional Tags: Angst, Mutual Pining, Friends to Enemies to Lovers, Sparring, Denial of Feelings, Developing Relationship, not really friends, questionable benefits?, Spectre!Hal Jordan, Late Night Conversations, Attempted Seduction, start of batlantern situationship..., Title from a Gerard Way Song read it on AO3 at https://ift.tt/i43myna
