“I have absolutely no pleasure in the stimulants in which I sometimes so madly indulge. It has not been in the pursuit of pleasure that I have periled life and reputation and reason. It has been the desperate attempt to escape from torturing memories, from a sense of insupportable loneliness and a dread of some strange impending doom.”
Over the weekend I purchased this book ‘Edgar Alan Poe The Complete Tales and Poems’. So far I have read a couple of poems. My current favorite poem is Tamberlane. I interpreted this poem as cold, melancholy, yet heartwarming. Poe has become one of my favorite authors since I was in High School. I remember reading The Black Cat during class. After reading it, I instantly fell in love with this literacy work. Since that day I have followed Poe’s work. Thankfully, I found a book with the full collection of Poe’s work. I am happy and prepared to be consumed by Poe’s tales and poems 📚
Edgar Allan Poe went hard when he said " Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary, Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore."
"Misery is manifold. the wretchedness of earth is multiform. Overreaching the wide horizon as the rainbow, its hues are as various as the hues of that arch- as distinct too, yet as intimately blended....How is it that from beauty I have derived a type of unloveliness?-from the covenant of peace of simile of sorrow?"
