Soulmates are inherently amatonormative and it's so wild how many people refuse to acknowledge that and instead go around trying to "make it more inclusive" which mostly just leads to then forcing aspec characters into a amatonormative narrative.
#text#aro#ace#aromantic#asexual#aroace#amatonormativity#soulmates#soulmate aus#Like no allowing QPRs into ur soulmates stories does not fix the core issue#you just put QPRs into a amatonormative role that the story relies upon#no saying friends can be your soulmate isn't inclusive it's still putting aspecs into an amatonormative structure#Soulmates at their very core are inherently amatonormative. they do not work if they aren't#you trying to force aspecs into the mold of soulmates will never fix the main issue.#it's not that there are no aspec characters in soulmate content its that the world around soulmates is inherently against aspecs in general#it's not that Aspecs don't show up. it's the fact the universe itself is inherently hostile to the idea of aspec people#it's the fact that the reason aspecs dont show up is because it goes against what the soulmates trope dictates to be true#the soulmate trope erases us from existence completely. because no matter what we will never fit into it's ideal narrative.

LIPS, MIND, HEART. KNIGHTS, VIOLENCE. CONVICTION.
some. kind of idea. I might try and tackle next year. tragically, I need to do research on the medieval economy lmao
the first knight is the youngest of the pair, eager for war glory. the priest is thinking of murdering him on his return. the eldest brother is thinking of deserting the army en route for a coastal fishing village where no one will know his name.
the statue with all the swords is our lady of sorrows, traditionally fashioned with seven swords. I've decided to do three on each side and the seventh held in front instead of the usual 3 on one side and 4 on the other split I see so that it matches that other panel's sword/hand position :)))
⭐ places I’m at! bsky / pixiv / pillowfort /cohost / cara.app / insta / tip jar!
#generic medieval tag#komiks tag#for the non catholics and the 'i forgot everything in sunday school' crowd: lips/mind/heart = sign of the cross#anyway more importantly. knights and religion and war violence do not exist independently of each other. blood on EVERYONE'S hands#the poetic chivalric knight is still part of the same structure that the historical knights were etc etc. and that's interesting!#fun interdisciplinary dialogue or whatever. much to chew on

a support group for people with “unconventional” daemons. jeff with his flounder he has to carry everywhere in a huge tank. lois with her poison dart frog everyone is afraid to touch. sam with their elephant that’s the reason they can never go higher than two stories in most buildings.
#and then they all start dating#it’s a metaphor for people with traits society considers undesirable or some shit#his dark materials#daemons#dæmon#me and my bullshit#i think way too much about the societal implications of daemons#dæmon au#look but the servants of oxford all having dog daemons implies that hiring bias does exist based on the form people’s daemons settle into#so naturally i think that different societies would form biases against people with certain kinds of daemons#and we all know how inaccessibility is deeply baked into a lot of government structures#regardless of the fact that lots of people out there need those accommodations to survive#idk it just seemed like a neat idea

found family is about radically redefining what family means and subverting established roles and structures within families. it's about allowing ourselves the freedom to build those relationships ourselves without the pressure of preexisting frameworks. it's NOT about "this one's the mom and this one's the dad" and recreating the nuclear family and to act like that's what it is and to then claim that found family as a media trope is reductive or normative is complete horseshit to me.
the terminology isn't always applicable and you can argue that it or some of its cliches are overused. and certainly you're welcome to have your own personal definition of what family is. but suddenly it's like the new tumblr zeitgeist is "found family is reductive and cringe" and it's baffling because what you MEAN is that forcing fictional characters into nuclear family roles is reductive. to suddenly decide that found family is "mom and dad and siblings :)" and thus normative and reductive and somehow bad is an insult to everyone who has nontraditional families without typical familial roles in real life. and i'm tired of pretending otherwise. that's all.
#not to mention that nontraditional families that DO mimic existing structures can also be radical#but of course i understand the criticism of that phenomenon in fandom is that it often is a warping of characters#what i've been trying to get at is that found family ≠ nuclear family and if i see one more person#equate the two in an effort to complain about found family and how we need to like destroy it or whatever#i'm actually going to go apeshit#'they're not family can't they just be close friends' sure. but can't those also be the same thing?#my close friends are family to me. they aren't my siblings or whatever but they're my family. why is that suddenly going over people's heads#op#found family

Sinners is everything. It’s a period piece. It’s a horror movie; a vampire film, and a folk horror, and a horror noir. It’s an action-thriller, and a bittersweet tragic love story, and a dark coming-of-age, with three endings, each genre with an emotionally satisfying conclusion. It’s written with such historical accuracy and honesty and attention to detail it might as well be a true story. The man who played Old Sammie lived the real thing.
#yeah fun and heart-squeezing fact: Buddy Guy? the man who played Old Sammie?#he lived the story Ryan Coogler told#in an interview piece Coogler went to meet Guy—wanting him in the film—they shared the script and then Guy told his life story#being a sharecropper growing up and moving to Chicago to become a musician#Coogler didn’t know that before but broke down hearing it bc minus the vampires? this was Guy’s real life#I find it chilling Coogler wrote a movie so real that it ends with a man who lived it. in real life and in character.#(it’s also. Black artists who respect and influence each others work. Coogler wanted Guy bc he grew up listening to that music#and his dad loved Guy’s work. Guy hasn’t been much for movies but his grandkids love Coogler’s films which inclined him to sit and listen#and then Guy decides to be in Sinners. tying it all together in such a thematically appropriate way. artists who inspire artists.#it’s the continuum of creation. it’s the spirits of ancestors and descendants all existing together)#also shoutout to the story structure; we got three endings for our three protagonists and all of them are perfect and devistating#Smoke and Stack and Sammie all have an ending in a different genre and they’re all satisfying and tie together#in a way that doesn’t detract but enhances the story#sinners#sinners 2025#sinners (2025)#Buddy guy#Ryan Coogler#sinners spoilers#(not really but mentioning Old Sammie and the ending—y’know)#my post

I’m 100% supportive of people becoming obsessed with a background character in something but when people start saying something is bad because those background characters don’t get any character development we gotta slow down a little
#not all people in stories are actually characters#they are not individuals but rather something that add the the landscape and helps set the stage#like sorry you’re obsessed with a guy who’s only purpose is to further the plot but pls remember all plots are contrived#someone made it up whatever that character did isn’t real and someone decided they do that it doesn’t just happen#one of my favorite types of characters is characters who are actually setting#my all time favorite example of this is in Toni Morrison’s A Mercy#the husband is introduced and given a full backstory and then in the first couple chapters he dies#because he as an individual didn’t matter the point of him being there was not to be developed#the point of him being there was because his initial existence is the only reason the actual characters interact#if this doesn’t make sense do not tell me I’m high and scared so im thinking about narrative structure and plot devices to calm down

Please Reset Your Save File :)
idk what came over me but here take this forgettable au wingdings undertale ARG ass image
speaking of being a mystery image with secrets to be unlocked, i’m gonna refrain from yapping. do the sleuthing yourself I believe in you
ok…. fine….I cant resist…. BUT DO THE TRANSLATING YOURSELF IM NOT DOING EVERYTHING FOR YOU
Ill start by explaining my proccess cause it was quite eventful!
The jumping off a cliff towards something was inspired off of this tiktok :D

Thought it worked GREAT for a character who was so dead-set on his goal he destroyed himself in the process of achieving it… And thats all I had in mind, Wingdings reaching twords his goal (a star/the player) and the rest I just went along with as I drew
I didn’t intend on the background being black, was just a placeholder, so once I finished the line art I fiddled with the color. thought some sort of “blue screen of death” would go well with the themes of what happens to him since he is IN a game. so the universe literally restarts (resets :3) itself to get rid of a glitch (him)
My theory currently is that his goal was to become some sort of player/gain the ability to reset, and once he did that, the game saw him as an error/glitch, so got rid of that- bro IS Turbo from wreck it ralph
After that whole idea- I was looking at some references to replicate the text and it made me go “OOOHOOO” when I saw the QR code like “oooo I could make my own and have some fun with that…” and so I did- and decided to link my original idea for that!
Reference:
I had fun making some differences in the wording to fit the situation
In the end, 2 silly illustrations that are fun to flicker between!

talking about the actual drawing though:
The cliff Dings is running off of has echo flowers because I SWEAR those are important. trust.
Him not wearing gloves is meant to depict how little he cares for his own safety in his last days. I did the same thing in my IM SANE amv!
The “star” having an eye is meant to show how its both the player, and seeing the stars/surface that Wingdings is reaching for.
The wingdings font covering Dings’ face/eye socket is meant to symbolize that perhaps he feels defined by his inability to communicate like other people naturally can.
“Ths Stars, They Cry Out Your Name” is my favorite thing in this… from Wingdings’ perspective, the only thing that matters, that understands him, that TRULY values him…is THE STARS. its like this goal that he has that will make him feel valued. Getting to the surface = being “worth it” But truly, the stars are the PEOPLE that care about him. Asgore, Alphys, Sans, people that are genuinely concerned over his obviously deteriorating mental health- they CRY out his name, not “call” like I had originally planned.
“66%” hehehehhe funy gaster numbr
ok and last thing- Im gonna cry remembering this dialogue from the official Clock App

its so important for this AU, PLEASE
#undertale#forgettable au#undertale au#forgettable au fanart#undertale fanart#wingdings is the bane of my existence#wingdings i hate you#I spent way too much time deciding what I should put on that qr code#thought of making a google slide presentation from wingdings’ perspective#but that wouldve been way too much work#and probably contradict things that will be revealed later…#IT WOULDA BEEN COOL#But I valued the ‘they cry our your name’ too much not to include it SOMEWHERE#sooo#ALSO IM GETTING SO MUCH BETTER AT DRAWING SKELETO ANATOMY???#maybe having an undertale hyperfixation wont have so many lasting consequences on my art after all#give me lots of opportunities to improve my skeletal structure!

With great power comes with great need to make skin creatures
HELL YEAHH

#mushyrt#asks#svsss#tw: body horror#y’know unironically it’s been such a fun way to practice animal anatomy#because they specifically have to be ‘skin’ creatures#I’m sometimes forced to take a deep dive into these animals#since photos of these species being featherless or hairless just don’t exist#of some of these*#so I have to extrapolate based off of skeletal structures and other biological features#Octobing#sv creature

not to ramble about iwtv but i think a lot of people who balk at the unsavory parts of gothic fiction are people who have either 1) never truly had to face an onslaught of the macabre in their own life 2) have not actually sat with the discomfort of the darker parts of existence or simply not learned or had to learn how to process truly twisted emotions within themselves. and i bring this up in relation to iwtv because i see a lot of people pointing out 'problematic' parts of the book or bemoaning which ships are more or less toxic. and it's like it's a cow farm there's gonna be cows on the cow farm.
yeah anne rice wrote some weird shit and some of it is definitely unnecessary, most of those elements were corrected in the show. but a lot of it is just gothic fiction. you don't get to have sexy vampires, romanticism and tortured yearning without the inappropriate attachments, the true face of grief and the blurred lines between violence and eroticism which has evoked great interest in humans for centuries.
#iwtv#interview with the vampire#lestat de lioncourt#louis de pointe du lac#claudia de pointe du lac#claudia de lioncourt#i saw a lot of people on tiktok complaining about how claudia is described in the books#and when i started reading i expected something way worse#and it was like...nothing#it's uncomfortable at points but that is...the enTIRE PREMISE#she's not supposed to exist like that#they trapped an eternal soul in an unfinished body and it's wrong and inappropriate#but alSO i think some ppl just have lost understanding for descriptive language in gothic text#bc modern publishing often pushes for more basic sentence structures and less flowery prose#so when ppl read shit that does have the more classic style and is VERY descriptive w strong words they're like whAt#and it's like bro it's poetic u gotta be less literal

Okay rereading tgcf now and the Xianle arc is genuinely making me frustrated for Qi Rong. He's terrible, obviously, but like. Xie Lian says it himself:

Traumatized from being abused by his father from birth. Ostrazised by all the nobles for it and bullied by the kids. Never disciplined by the King and Queen bc the Queen felt bad for him. His only friend and apparently the only one to expect anything from him was his perfect cousin, beloved by all, who was like... Two years his senior?
Genuinely the only person who made any effort to actually raise him after his mother's death and not just appease him when he had very understandable behavioural issues (bc CHILDHOOD PTSD) was maybe ten at most when he came to the palace?
Oh also his mother fucking died protecting his perfect cousin's mother. Leaving Qi Rong with further trauma and the Queen with further guilt about punishing her nephew
Also this

#tgcf#qi rong#xie lian#xie lian's mother#idk I've just been thinking a lot about qi rong lately#you go you funky horrible ghost break those cycles of abuse by loving your own cheap son in your own weird way#like obviously i dont blame the xies for not getting him therapy or smth bc therapy didn't even exist#but dear LORD that child needed structure and safety and they SHOULD have been able to provide that much

atp i genuinely doooon’t care if the old guard two is the worst thing put to film i just want to see the best character of all time (andromache the scythian) and her loser henchmen and everyone’s favorite girl nile freeman again
#its not even funny anymore WHERE IS ANDY AND NORIKO!!!!!!!!!!! it was supposed to be the year of dyke drama 😞😞😞😞😞😞#like given the way they structured the first movie the second would have to be almost wholly original and differ a lot from the comic#like andy cant go thru the shit noriko puts her thru so im guessing the script would switch her out with nile getting tossed in the ocean#but that doesnt really work with norikos comic characterization (trying to get andy to see her point by making her go thru what noriko did#isnt something quynh will gaf about if andy isnt one of the immortals. andys become thr ‘vermin’ noriko hates!!!)#and given the end of the movie everyones chill with copley so joe and nickys whole subplot cant exist anymore…. idk maybe theyll switch out#copley with moose?? idc as long as we get their stupid car conversation tbh makes me laugh#honestly given the changes that would have to be made they probably just made a stupid movie and don’t want to release it. but I DONT CAREEE#its not exactly like the first one was that good i still mute it in preparation for every cringe needle drop like its a lame movie but its#genuineeeeee fun like i seriously do not care netflix give me my movie!!!#the old guard

Hate it when j&h adaptations give Jekyll a female love interest, like bitch, he HAS a love interest who is introduced on the first page, and his name is MR UTTERSON THE LAWYER.
#well technically it's “gabriel john utterson' but those are the first 4 words of the book#my random stuff#dr jekyll and mr hyde#jekyll and hyde#and on a more serious note-#it tells me that the adaptation understood nothing about the novella#because the queer subtext* is almost domtext#*and yes i say subtext as opposed to coding because#Stevenson's purpose was to oppose the repressive victorian social structures#and the unspoken social codes and unnecessary laws surrounding what people could and couldn't do#and; yeah sure there were plenty of those for straight relationships#but doubly so for queer ones#queerness is SO important to this novella even though it's never overtly mentioned#edit: just saw a post that reminded me of this one and I'd like to add:#adaptations that give jekyll a female LI seem to make her ONLY a love interest without any development#and usually they only exist to get raped or killed by Hyde#it's. not great.

I love how a well-written romance is so often structured as a mystery. A person starts with a certain idea about another person, and over the course of the story, they uncover more evidence that gives them a fuller picture of who the other person truly is. They learn about layers to the personality and backstory that give the other person more depth. They learn how the other person's personality meshes with theirs. Even the third-act misunderstanding fits the mystery structure--it looks like they've uncovered the final secret to the other person's identity, which is that they're not the worthy person they seemed to be, but then discover that they misinterpreted that evidence, or the other person takes steps to apologize and repair the level of trust. When the mystery is resolved, they've reached a full understanding of each other and know they've found a partner they can trust their whole future to.
#also comedy works along a mystery structure#so a romantic comedy is like a double mystery#two different types of mystery clashing with each other and causing hilarity before the truth is finally revealed#if nothing else this batb diversion will spark some interesting romance thoughts#this came to me because i've been slowly rereading beth brower's 'the q'#and i just hit the scene where quincey gets to observe arch outside of work for the first time#just a lovely moment of revelation#and i think that's the one thing that story does really well#and the author in general is very good at applying this mystery dynamic to all her character dynamics whether romantic or platonic#i rarely find myself able to believe in the strength of her characters' bonds that are supposed to exist before the story started#but the developing relationships are so good because of this endless uncovering of mysteries deepening the bonds in a very compelling way#adventures in writing
