happy (late) new years everyone! i hope everyone had a great start to the new year. i'm ringing it in by recommending some of my favourite nalu fics of 2023! hope you enjoy!
Spring by bumblebeehugs Natsu and Lucy take a break from walking on the way home from a mission.
Summer by bumblebeehugs Natsu suffers from the summer heat for the first time - everything is Lucy's fault, according to him.
Autumn by bumblebeehugs Happy takes a moment to observe his two best friends.
Winter by bumblebeehugs Lucy has the worst morning known to human kind, until Natsu comes to her rescue.
i would say all of this, but i don't wanna ruin the moment by luckymio As he sat on his bed, only the sounds of his fingers clicking against the controller, the monsters in his game groaning, even though the game was paused, and the flipping of pages, he realized that he couldn’t remember a time where he wasn’t in love with Lucy. It had always been him and her, Natsu and Lucy, them. Always them.
night drives by luckymio Those nights were magic. For him, they were magic. Lucy’s face in the side mirror, her eyes gentle, slightly dazed, and trained on the blurry houses and apartments. She would sing softly, close to a whisper, her voice almost drowned out from the sound of tire against pavement. But he heard it, because he never focused on the music, because he only focused on her.
Wise Men Say by Irrelevan in which Natsu is sick and Lucy finds out that she doesn't mind taking care of him actually.
tolerate it by Nostromo13 Jude has watched his daughter grow from the sidelines of newspaper articles and Sorcerer Weeklys, only catching glimpses of her life through her guild and her career as an author. After reconnecting with her, he now has to see where he fits in his now 25 (technically 32) year old daughter's life. Set in a timeline where Jude didn’t die during the seven years.
Time passes by quickly (When you belong somewhere) by Nihilistic_Nomad It’s rather intriguing, how much a person’s life can change in just one year.
Happy Endings by bumblebeehugs What Natsu knew about families had been an ever-changing subject for as long as he could remember. Yet somehow, he found himself free from these wonders one day.
My heart is heavy (With fearful wonderings) by Nihilistic_Nomad It’s always in the quieter moments that her mind wanders.
Gave him her heart by bumblebeehugs Lucy worries about what to get Natsu for his birthday, not knowing how ridiculously easy it actually is.
Impossible Love by natsudragneelswh0re "Someone once asked me what it felt like to love you. They might as well have asked me to describe the taste of water." -JL
a thousand red roses by natsudragneelswh0re Natsu and Lucy come back from a mission that puts pressure on not only them, but also their relationship. There only seems to be one option to resolve their conflict, but the 'only option' seems to be different to either party.
The days inbetween by bumblebeehugs Lucy falling asleep somewhere and Natsu carrying her to bed.
Cymorth by Nostromo13 Following the Alvarez war, Natsu has to come to terms with a new reality.
ready (for a misunderstanding) by ssukidesu When Bisca and Alzack have another baby, a passing comment from Lucy turns Natsu's world upside down.
a dragon's habits by Poteto Natsu is a dragon and as such he needs to have power, a hoard and… what else do dragons do? Why, they kidnap princesses of course!
Marry The Sea by Nostromo13 Usually Natsu felt like he knew everything when it came to Lucy. He knows she loves him but now it's come time to propose and he's not so sure if marriage is something she wants.
Call Me By My Name by StaleCupcakes524 "You're..." Natsu took in the sight of her as his eyes widened. The pretty brown eyes he'd already been watching, supple pink lips that had released those wonderful laughs, braided golden hair that reached near to the ground, and long, pointed ears poking past the strands. "a fae," he finished. She nodded, ears twitching nervously. "Do not tell me your name."

Throwing some fic recs into the mix since I keep seeing the posts from others and wanting to join in. Below, you'll find 10 fics that I'm excited to recommend, in no particular order!
get a clue! by @monsterhunting [Stranger Things, Stoncy]
This is a delightful Valentine's Day fic featuring oblivious Steve, which is one of my favorite kinds of Steve! The pining is real, but the fic is lighthearted, not lingering on the angst of it all, but rather focusing on the positives. Steve's friendship and back and forth with Robin is great, but his interactions with Nancy and Jonathan are even better. It's a great time!
Don't Make Me by @idridian [Halloween Ends, Corey/Allyson/Michael]
You do not understand how badly I needed a fic like this after finally seeing Halloween Ends for the first time. That movie took over my whole brain for a hot minute and I was worried there would be nothing out there to sink my teeth into afterwards. But this fic. This fic was there to give me everything that I needed after the movie. "Allyson Corruption Arc" might be my favorite tag ever. It goes without saying, but there's a darkness to this fic that wraps around you while reading it. The relationship with Allyson and Corey is EVERYTHING! I just. This fic is beautiful and I love it!
To Run The Dog by @pterawaters [Stranger Things, Stoncy]
I love me some fic where Stancy crush hard on Jonathan and want to date him together. This is a really lovely AU where Steve and Nancy are married and keep seeing Jonathan running by their house with his dog. The way they want so badly to interact with him, and the friendship that ends up developing once they get the chance, is wonderful. The characters still feel like themselves despite not having gone through the same things as they do in the show, and it's just. Really enjoyable to read!
my body's aching and my time is at hand by whateverislovely [Criminal Minds, Reid-centric]
Gosh, this fic hits me right in the feels. There's something about sitting with a character who is feeling so low and feels like they can't talk to anyone (even though they know deep down that they could but it FEELS like they can't). Spencer desperately needs someone to see that he's struggling, but it's hard when there's so much going on at the same time. I don't even know what all to say, this fic just really gave me the angst and hurt/comfort (emotional and physical) that I revel in.
The Babysitter by @stevethehousewife [Stranger Things, Stancy, Dusteve, uhh... more]
A fic inspired by my favorite horror comedy movie ever? With Steve as the titular babysitter? But not evil? AND it's A/B/O?? Yeah there are many, many reasons I love this fic. The descriptions of Steve feel like they came right out of the movie in a way that made them so easy to see in my head. But it changes enough about the story that it doesn't feel at all like a straight up rehash of what you've already seen. AND it combines some of my favorite ships, with a Steve who is just the best ever. I freaking LOVE THIS FIC SO MUCH!!
close my fist around something delicate by inlovewithnight [Ted Lasso, Keeley/Roy/Jamie]
All that I wanted for these three was for them to realize that they have feelings for each other. That they can make a relationship work, if they just try. And dammit, this fic delivers! While also adding in some great angst and hurt/comfort (physical and emotional). I didn't realize quite how much I wanted to see Jamie hurting and being stood up for/protected by the people who care about him, but boy did I! This fic is really lovely, it sucked me in and didn't let me go until I finished reading.
Both Hands Holding on to the Wire by @stevethehousewife [Stranger Things, Stobin]
This was one hell of a gift to get in a smut exchange, holy moly! It focuses really well on Robin's confusion over the thoughts she starts having about Steve after accidentally walking in on him changing. The whole concept is handled respectfully, taking the weight of it all very seriously. Robin and Steve's friendship is so good, the way they can just BE with each other. It's got the angst I adore, a Steve who is an absolute sweetheart, and a Robin who is so much more like her season 4 self than season 3 (which is a huge plus for me personally).
The Hourglass by @pterawaters [Fargo s5, Dot & Gator, Dot/Wayne/Gator]
A shorter fic here, but no less wonderful! It's exactly what I needed after finishing the latest season of Fargo. Getting to see where their lives might have gone, if Dot had been able to take Gator with her when she ran away. If he had wanted to go. It gets me emotional every time I think about it. I love love love this fic!
Wednesday by @stevethehousewife [Stranger Things, Stoncy]
I will recommend this fic forever and for always. It has everything: hurt Steve! Time loops! Season 3 Steve being thrown back to the worst day of his life and forced to relive it over and over until he gets it right (hint, it's the Halloween party in s2). I fucking love this fic! I've lost count of how many times I've reread it, but it might rival the number of time loops Steve lives through (okay maybe not quite that many, but you get my point). It shows Steve a side of Jonathan he didn't get to see the first time around. It gives him the closure he probably didn't realize he needed. I just. Adore this story!!
An Oath Broken, An Oath Kept by @urisarang [Love Between Fairy and Devil, Chang Heng/Dongfang Qingcang]
This fic is so mean in the best way! Both of them are so hurt, physically and emotionally. And then Chang Heng is forced to hurt DFQC even more, which only makes it that much BETTER. It was the perfect gift to receive for the Flash Made Them Do It exchange. I laugh every time I see the a/n (the word count minimum was 300 words. The word count on this fic is... a lot more than that). And it's just as fun to reread now as it was to read it the first time around. I want to draw hearts around it!

Any good friendship drama recs? Just finished Sassy go go, though it’s truly not the best it reminded me why I love friendships the most 🥹
I love friendship k-dramas!
Great Friendship K-dramas:
Your House Helper: Soft and quiet drama about three women and healing (bonus: cute golden retriever!)
Laughter In Waikiki: A group of friends open a home stay together! This show's humor is ridiculous so you have to be ready to dumb laugh.
Racket Boys: I really shouldn't be allowed to put this on the list because it's still on my to watch list! But I KNOW it's about a middle school badminton team and the gifs look sooooooo heartwarming! You can tell there are a lot of great friendships! Dang I need to watch this soon!
Tumblr media
Reply 1988: A classic about a group of neighborhood friends and their coming of age stories. (To be fair I think all of the reply series are about friendships.)
Hospital Playlist: A medical drama centering around five friends who met in collage. This show has tons of great slice of life and the female lead is GOALS.
Fight For My Way: Four friends from high school live and work in the same apartment complex. This is the perfect rom com. AMAZING friends to lovers.
Be Melodramatic: You knew this drama would be on my list because of course it is!! A group of friends living and working in the creative world. Slice of life, romance, almost perfect script and one of my favorite kisses ever!
Thirty Nine: Just a heads up that I didn't finish this drama because the setup was just too sad but it's about three women who are thirty nine and what they are going through.
Hello My Twenties: Super fun show about five girls who are roomates in college. Very bingable!
Twenty Five Twenty One: While this sports drama focuses on a romance it also has amazing friendship scenes. I love the two ladies together so so much!
Uncanny Counter: This fantasy drama about super heroes is a bit more like found family but I don't care! It's so good and and the characters relationships with one another are amazing!
Because This is My First Life: A contract marriage rom com focusing on three best friends and their lives and romances.
Weightlifting Fairy: While this drama is mostly a coming of age rom com, there are a lot of fun friendship scenes.

Faatima, pardon me if you’ve already posted/been asked this before, and I know you’ve already answer this in part when talking to me before, but I’d love to hear what ur top fave Pakistani dramas are, with as much or as little detail as you’d like! 🩷🫶🏽📜
i don't think i've ever gone into detail with specific recs so this is a good opportunity to do so omg ty hiba 🥺
daam (2010) - two women from starkly different class backgrounds are friends and attend medical school together. maleeha (upper class) takes on an almost paternalistic role with zara (lower class) by handing her down clothes, incorporating her into her friend group, etc., despite zara's own self sufficiency outside of her financial situation. the role maleeha plays in zara's life is one zara is eternally grateful for, but maleeha never seems to move past a recognition of her own self-importance. so much so, that when maleeha learns zara may have feelings for her brother, junaid, she feels used and threatens to revoke all of the assistance she has been giving zara's family for years. it's a hard-hitting exploration into the impact of class stratification on friendship and the inherent biases that color upper class pakistanis' interactions with lower class pakistanis. and i enjoy the realism of forgiving people for their transgressions but not necessarily moving backwards in time to reforge the bonds you once used to have (no eng sub)
jackson heights (2014) - an ensemble focused drama set in jackson heights, new york. it's a wonderfully vivid depiction of a variety of working class pakistanis and one that manages to remain down to earth while nonetheless highlighting hard hitting issues, particularly emotional, financial, and physical abuse. it's hard to describe but one thing the drama does really well is not valorize its abuse victims. they aren't saints for riding out the horrors of the violence enacted against them. they're only people moving through the world like anyone else. there was a tendency in pakistani dramas of this era to dramatize the idolization of the west via the lens of unattainable romance, but this drama is far more successful in portraying the realities you have to come to terms with when you uproot yourself from your homeland and start from scratch and work a menial job. in that sense i think it's a triggering drama in a lot of ways, but never gratuitous, and very thoughtful as to its themes and conclusions (no eng sub)
raqeeb se (2021) - this play is very cryptic in a lot of ways (standard fare for screenwriter bee gul) but it does a great job at adhering to realities without necessarily fetishizing them. the storyline focuses exclusively on the intergenerational trauma of two pairs of women connected by one man. maqsood is from a gaon and once tried to run away with sakina, only for someone else to be killed in the process. as a result, sakina had to stay behind and raised a daughter ameera with an abusive husband, while maqsood was married to hajra and moved to the city where they had their daughter insha. years later sakina flees from her husband's abuse and takes her daughter to the only place she knows: maqsood's. but what's interesting about this setup is that maqsood and sakina's love story is so well known in the former's household that maqsood's wife hajra bears sakina and her daughter no ill will. she takes them in, cares for them, and shoulders their grief, all while her daughter insha watches in bewilderment. it's an incredibly captivating story in the face of so many others that would rather use love and men to sew seeds of revenge and malice between women. ultimately, ameera and insha are used to explore how women can forge their own histories and choices despite the duties and blame their mothers were bounded to by tradition (no eng sub)
sar e rah (2023) - most pak dramas in the past decade have been unforgivably long (a below-thirty episode run is unheard of now even though we used to wrap up stories in little more than twenty episodes pre-2014ish) but we're slowly seeing the rise of the miniseries, and this drama is a stellar recent example. each episode centers on a different character struggling with a societal issue. rania takes over her father's taxi driving business when he gets sick despite concerns that it is no job for a woman. dr. muzna adopts a child but subsequently deals with her husband's rejection bc he sees it as an exposure of his impotence that he has not divulged to his own mother. rameen faces familial accusations of shamelessness bc she is a tik tok star and fights to maintain her right to an inheritance when her brother seeks to disown her. sarim is a trans man brought up with love and acceptance from his father but rejection and bigotry from his step mother and step brother. and maryam is a working woman forced to take a stand for herself when constantly underestimated and even falsely accused due to workplace misogyny. it's altogether not a perfect but nonetheless significantly forward thinking drama despite societal standards, and saba qamar (rania) connects all of these characters together masterfully in a major call to action (full eng sub)
dil na umeed to hani (2021) - the central focus of this drama is human trafficking and child labor. allah rakhi and jamshed are childhood friends from the same village who are quickly made to part ways due to extenuating circumstances. allah rakhi is married off to an older man who sells her into prostitution, while jamshed runs away from home after suffering abuse from the adults in his life. the drama mainly follows both characters in their adult years, when allah rakhi finally attempts to escape the prison of the brothel, while jamshed works at a shelter for sex trafficking victims. there's also another younger character, naseem, who dreams of becoming a national women's cricketer despite being faced with her father's misogyny and the threat of human trafficking herself. this is overall an incredibly raw and painful story so novel in its attempt to highlight certain societal issues that it was nearly banned from broadcast in the country. yumna zaidi and wahaj ali are breathtaking in roles that are essentially the culmination of all of their years of hard work on more niche indie projects, and their characters' reunion towards the end of the drama will send any viewer into tears (partially eng sub)
these are probably the most well-rounded dramas that i feel really proud of recommending. while romance is a present element in some of them it's never the central element and i don't feel unnecessarily harsh in saying that our portrayals of romance still have a really long way to go to the point that i wouldn't necessarily rec any drama where romance was the focus lmao.. like i have my guilty pleasures (i rewatch humsafar often for mahira khan and fawad khan's chemistry alone despite its severe issues) but they're mostly me being willing to indulge in garbage for the sake of a) an actor's skill; b) a lead couple's chemistry; or c) a female character whom i would protect with my life despite her being trapped in the shittiest narrative imaginable
that being said, some other dramas i have also enjoyed over the years:
kuch ankahi (ongoing) -> great ensemble cast and exploration of several issues with a balance of comedy and subtlety. sajal aly and bilal abbas khan are also phenomenal in the lead roles and probably share the best on-screen chemistry of any of their peers at the moment
yunhi (ongoing) -> the set-up is a bit cringe, but the ideas it's ultimately exploring about hypocritical perceptions both diaspora and homeland pakistanis have of each other is really interesting and the tone of the drama is very calm and down to earth rather than overly dramatic or melancholic
fairy tale (2023) -> this is the only ramadan drama i'm going to put on here lmao but it's recently gone viral bc frankly despite all of its flaws (not owing to any weird societal views, only investment in plot points and side characters who are frankly uninteresting) the chemistry and comedic timing between the two leads is genuinely insane. it's a bit cliched from time to time but they really do have me smiling silly every day even though the drama's over like look at them look at them look at theeeeem
chauraha (2022) -> it's very common in pakistani media that a girl is either kidnapped or stockholm syndromed into loving a man so i really love this one bc it shows a girl get kidnapped and refuse to romanticize the situation while also remaining adamant as to her own independence rather than allowing societal pressure to force her into marrying someone to save her image
jo bichar gaye (2022) -> period drama about the events that set the stage for bangladesh's separation from pakistan. largely applauded for not romanticizing or skirting over pakistan's transgressions in alienating and harming east pakistanis/bangladeshis
dastaan (2010) -> period drama about a woman's experience before, during, and after partition. noted for its commentary on women in this era and how they faced resounding sexual violence, whether from hindu, sikh, or muslim men
o rangreza (2019) -> the pak drama version of that one essay excerpt about how the daughter ridicules her mother by establishing camaraderie with her father. a really interesting insight into how pakistani daughters can sometimes be so disgusted with their mothers' culturally curated subservience that their attempts to gain independence are also built on internalized misogyny
durr e shehwar (2012) -> a bit of a dated drama in that it recounts the experience of a woman through the early years of her marriage and the patience it took for her to win over her husband and his family. i'm sure there would be complaints now about how this drama romanticized that patience despite all of the pain and isolation the female lead suffered but i also think it's largely cathartic bc it doesn't chastise women in similar circumstances
badshah begum (2022) -> is this drama good? no. does it have anything productive to say about mob mentality and tribalism in rural pakistani villages? no. are any of the female characters truly independent and strong in the best sense of the word? maybe only one. but the ost is a banger and the performances by everyone are genuinely phenomenal so i'm putting it here anyway lmao
yaqeen ka safar (2017) -> this drama shot sajal aly and ahad raza mir to superstardom and marriage which has now unfortunately ended in divorce. but at the time their chemistry was phenomenal so while i have nitpicky issues with the plot i do enjoy the drama for the development of their relationship alone like it was pretty sweet
humsafar (2011) -> obv i said above that it's garbage and i stand by that but the chemistry between the leads here really was unprecedented for its time and has remained largely unrivaled in the industry. i also am able to rewatch for mahira khan's portrayal of khirad alone and some of the dialogues are so [clenches fist]
zindagi gulzar hai (2012) -> another super flawed drama but i really enjoy the portrayal of a female lead who struggles with coming around to the idea of marriage and baring herself to someone else bc of the trauma of growing up with a severely neglectful father. it's just real to see a girl freak out about her agency and about admitting to feelings she may have bc she is terrified at the thought of being vulnerable and weak. like that's literally me

My Favorite Non-Fantasy Rom-Com K-Dramas
This may be my hardest list to compile since I tend to prefer my K-Dramas with some fantasy elements to them. What can I say? It helps with the escapism.
The dramas featured on this basically can’t have any fantasy or sci-fi elements (I’ll give leeway for fictional regions though). Basically, no time travel, robots/ai, magic, universe hopping, ghosts, Gumiho, vampires, etc.
Business Proposal
I’m starting off with a K-Drama from this year that I fell in love with! It’s on Netflix and it’s 100% worth the watch, it’s also got great re-watch-ability!
This is about Kang Tae-moo who, in order to appease his grandfather, agreed to go on a blind date. He was supposed to meet Ha-ri's best friend, Yeoung-seo, but she enlists Ha-ri to scare him away (like all of her other blind dates). On the blind date, she is shocked to discover that the guy her best friend was supposed to see is the CEO of the company that she works. Despite her best efforts to chase him away and even after being exposed as not Yeong-so (though she still doesn't reveal who she really is), he decides that she's perfect to play the role of his girlfriend so as to stop his grandfather from setting him up on blind dates.
This is a hilarious drama with plenty of romantic fluff. It's basically a rich guy-poor girl romance, both the main lead couple and the second lead couple will deliver plenty of laughs and romantic fluff. This is pretty much just a wonderful light-hearted romp with wholesome friendships between the individuals in both couples.
Tumblr media
Shopping King Louie (aka Shopaholic Louis)
I really wasn’t kidding when I said that I'll always recommend this show. This drama is a very light-hearted show that's just heart-warming. Really, my only complaint is the love triangle that they tried to shoehorn in, but honestly it seems like most things have love triangles.
Anyway, this is a super adorable and sweet show about a 3rd gen. chaebol heir who is super sheltered and ends up being thrown into the “real world” with amnesia while going to visit his grandmother in Korea. He’s taken under the wing of Bok-shil who is in Seoul in search of her younger brother Bok-nam as she finds Louie wearing her brother’s clothes and thinks that somewhere in his forgotten memories he'll have clues to help her find Bok-nam.
This show is just pure romantic fluff that’ll have you smiling and feeling soft. Louie is a loyal and protective puppy to Bok-shil and she’s a saint, their friendship and romance is just so soft and wholesome. This show also has a great OST (in my opinion) and I loved the song choices that they made (especially when it came to the ones that were used as episode titles).
Tumblr media
Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo
This is a cute sports related drama where both leads are in some sport. The male lead is a swimmer and Bok-joo is…well a weightlifter. This drama has two of my favorite tropes, being “met as kids” and “friends to lovers.”
There’s a wholesome friendship between the romantic leads, with them being really supportive of one another. There’s also the great friendship between Bok-joo and her friends.
Even if you’re a person doesn’t really like sports related stuff (like me), this show is still 100% worth watching! It’s really hilarious, cute and heartwarming ❤️
Tumblr media
My Strange Hero
This is a K-Drama about a young adult going back to the private high school that he was expelled from due to allegations of bullying (which he wasn’t guilty of). He’s there planning to bring down the school’s corruption and enact a good-guy kind of revenge. There, he meets his high school crush who is now his teacher.
I’ll admit that I was hesitant to watch this for a long time because I do not like romances between student + teacher. That being said, this didn’t feel wrong because they were both adults and it was handled well (in my opinion).
This drama is funny, heart-warming, inspiring (to me, as someone who wants to be a teacher) and cute.
Tumblr media
Café Minamdang
Another Seo In-guk drama and a recent one at that! I almost said “I’m honestly not sure if this really qualifies as a realistic kdrama” and then I remembered that this list is only meant for non-fantasy/sci-fi dramas and realism isn't relevant at all, so this counts!
This drama is based on a webtoon (which I haven’t read). It’s about a profiler turned con-man/shaman named Nam Han-jun who is trying to find and catch the elusive serial killer known as “Gopuri.” He works alongside another friend of his who also used to work in law enforcement as well as Han-jun’s younger sister who used to work for a government intelligence agency of some kind. Originally working apart from law enforcement, Nam Han-jun and his squad end up working with law enforcement and Han-jun end ups falling in love with the female detective, Jae-hui, for whom the case is also personal to.
I personally enjoyed this show, I found it to be absolutely hilarious and I checked Netflix religiously to watch the next episode when it was airing (it's fully released now though, so you don't have to wait to watch the next episode). I don’t know what others thought of it and I honestly don’t care because this is my list and I can recommend what I want. I’d personally recommend it if you like your rom-coms with some thriller or mystery elements! I’d also recommend it if, like me, you like Seo In-guk! He was the reason why I wanted to watch it in the first place and he didn’t disappoint!

True Beauty
Another high school-set drama makes it on this list. I honestly wasn’t sure if I’d like this show, I was worried that it wouldn’t live up to the hype, but it definitely does!
This K-Drama is also based on a webtoon and it’s basically about a girl who changes schools due to being mercilessly bullied due to her looks (specifically her bad acne). Before changing schools, she turns to online makeup tutorials and eventually become good enough to be happy with how she looks. Once at new school she makes good friends and ends up in a love triangle.
This drama has some of my favorite tropes in it and it’s the first drama to ever give me “second-lead syndrome.” It is cute, hilarious and fun to watch (it also has a great cameo scene with the characters from Extra-ordinary You). This show has some of my favorite tropes in it, but saying which ones would spoil it, so I won’t say! I would definitely recommend this if you happen to like school dramas or if you think you’re even marginally interested in watching it!
Tumblr media
Romance Is A Bonus Book
You’ll probably see me recommend this a fair amount, which is strange because I honestly never thought that I’d end up watching this show in the first place. This is because I don’t typically watch what are known as “noona romances” (for those who don’t know, these are shows in which the romance is between an older woman and a younger male). This show definitely sold me though! If you want to dip your toes into Noona Romances, I would say that this is a good place to start as the romance between the leads is soft and cute and the age gap is only about 5 years I think? Don’t quote me on this though lol
This drama is about Kang Dan-i who has been divorced for a year and supporting her only child, she's essentially homeless and struggling to find work. She's been hiding her divorce and struggles from her best friend since childhood, Eun-ho, and has been working as his maid/housekeeper (though he doesn't know it). She eventually decides to lie about her education level in order to get a temp. job at the publishing house that Eun-ho works at.
This drama features some of my favorite tropes, such as "met as kids" and "friends to lovers." I really loved the relationship between Eun-ho and Dan-i, especially the way in which they're super supportive of each other and are always cheering each other on. ❤️
This is a heart-warming drama that will leave you feeling warm and cozy. I often compare it to curling up with a good book and I will stand by that analogy (even though I definitely need to find new/different ways of phrasing it).
Tumblr media
The King’s Affection
The first and only historical drama you’ll be seeing on this list because I’ve only seen 2 and the other one has fantasy/sci-fi elements because it involves time travel. For full disclosure, I actually haven’t finished this show yet. ^^; I’m currently on ep.15 of 20 though, so I’m getting there!
This drama is a gender-bent drama in which the female lead, Dam-yi has to assume her twin brother’s identity and role as the crown prince after he is killed in a case of mistaken identity (that identity being her own). Due to this, she becomes guarded and out of necessity ends up distancing herself from others within the kingdom/palace who do not already know her secret. Despite this, she ends up falling in love (again) with her 1st love who is now her teacher, Ji-un.
This drama is more high-stakes than most other dramas that I watch. This is definitely something that I’d recommend to anyone who likes more drama in their K-Dramas as it has government and royal family “shenanigans” (murder, espionage, bids for power, etc.). Amidst all of this though, the main leads have plenty of cute, sweet moments. I especially love the role reversal in this drama, particularly with Ji-un being in the stereotypical female romantic scenarios (ex. tripping and being caught by the male lead, except in this show’s case it’s the female lead!)
This is only the 2nd gender-bender drama that I’ve seen and I definitely “rate” it higher than Coffee Prince for a couple reasons, not the least of which being the fact that Ji-un handles the reveal infinitely better than the male lead in Coffee Prince. Basically, Ji-un is a good bi/pan boy and I stan him not caring either way about the gender of the person he loves because he just loves who they are as a person. ❤️ I stan this and I need more of this!! ❤️

Semantic Error
This a cute BL drama and sadly the only one on this list as I haven’t gotten to explore the genre very far yet.
This is a cute, short drama based on a webtoon of the same name. I’m not kidding when I say this is short, it’s about 3 hours long altogether, you could finish this in less than a day!
The premise of the show is that Sang Woo, a computer science major and very logical individual who is by-the-book, is part of a group project for one of his classes. The other members bail or don’t contribute and he decides to remove their names from the project and present alone, leaving them to get bad grades. One of these students is senior Jae Young, a design major. Due to what happened, he has to do another semester before transferring. Jae Young is on a mission to find Sang Woo and get revenge/payback and ends up discovering that Sang Woo is looking for a design artist to help him make a game, so the two end up working together.
This drama features the tropes/themes of “opposites attract” and “enemies to lovers.” It’s a funny, cute drama and the OST is really good!
Tumblr media
Descendants of the Sun
This is low on my list for a few reasons (even though I really don’t make my lists with any ranking system or specific order). The main reason this drama ended up being last-ish is because I found it to be a bit slow in places and I felt like the will they-won’t they to be dragged on a bit too long. I’ll be honest though, that could just be my ADHD talking lol
That being said, this drama has a place on this list because it got me interested in K-Dramas and it was the first K-Drama I recommended to my best friend that she ended up liking lol
To summarize the show very briefly, this drama is primarily about the romance between a female doctor and a guy who is the leader of a special ops. team in the military. At first it doesn’t work out, but they get closer when the female lead is sent to the fictional war-torn region that he happens to be stationed in along with some other doctors. There’s a second lead couple as well, comprised of a female military doctor and the main male lead’s best friend and 2nd in command.
This drama has some great comedic moments and “bromance” moments and while it is largely realistic and doesn’t have any fantasy or sci-fi elements, it does have that funky 4th wall break at the end of the last episode which will 100% cause you to do a double-take.

If y'all are like, 'hey yo cang lan jue was so good but everything else is shit, I wonder why that is' then have I got good news for you beCAUSE
The showrunners were reportedly inspired by early Tangren productions, which I totally believe from the themes to the romance to the score. Early Tangren has some really good stuff (a lot of which involves Hu Ge) but I'd like to present my own personal bias:
Chinese Paladin 3 (仙剑奇侠传3)
Tumblr media
It's got those similar themes of love, destiny, duty, and waiting (so much waiting), and the soundtrack is an absolute banger. And it's only 36 episodes because early Tangren knew how to do good pacing.
Chinese Paladin 1 is also very good, but CP3 is my childhood so it holds a special place in my heart. And if you're wondering why there's no CP2, that's because the CP franchise is a game series and only 1 and 3 were adapted (we don't talk about 5).
(Apparently they're remaking CP1 for some godforsaken reason and we all know it's gonna be shit.)

Do you mind if I ask, what are your top 5 (or top 10) favorite moments from any anime (can be series or movies)? Sorry if you have answered this before.....
Oh wow I’ve never had to think about my top anime moments before. This is exciting! Off the top of my head and in no particular order I’d have to say :
In Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood when Ed was fighting Father by himself and everyone was calling his name to cheer him on….chills.
Another top moment for me (not necessarily my favorite but the emotions stuck with me for a while) was the last roll call in Assassination Classroom. I don’t think I’ve recovered from that to this day.
There’s so many moments in Fairy Tail (the anime that got me into anime): when they came back after being stuck on Tenrou Island for 7 years, Natsu beating the twin dragons for Lucy, fairy tail winning the grand magic games, Lucy reuniting with the guild after they all went their separate ways.
In Haikyuu when they were up against Shiratorizawa and they needed one more point to win. Man the animation for that was godly. With Ushijima holding down Tsuki and Hinata but the other teammates fighting to lift him up definitely a favorite anime moment of mine.
Gintama also has a lot of memorable moments for me. Just a few off the top of my head is the ladies absolutely kicking ass during the Courtesan of a Nation arc, when Gin found out his teacher was still alive, when everyone came together to fight Utsuro
In Eighty Six when Shin and Lena (and the entire squadron) officially met for the first time I cried my eyes out.
Attack on Titan had a lot of moments but the one that made me decide to stick to watching it was the sealing of Wall Rose. The animation, soundtrack and voice acting made me officially love this anime
In Demon Slayer, the fight between Uzui and Tanjiro vs Gyutaro will always be epic. I don’t know if any other animated fight could top that for me personally.
Again these are just a few moments that came to the top of my head, there’s probably more but this post will be too long lol. Thank you for asking such an awesome question!

Her Feet Beneath Her Petticoat, romance
Tumblr media
Her Feet Beneath Her Petticoat by Angela Acker
In her first London season, Elinor Carstairs enchanted the Earl of Ashby, but her father's death forced her to leave town before any intentions could be declared, leaving the Earl nothing to remember her by except one lost shoe.
When Elinor becomes a ward of her aunt, she is treated like a servant, forced to serve as a maid to her nearly identical cousin, Isabella. Elinor remains hidden away while Isabella goes into society, and her cousin attracts the attention of none other than the Earl of Ashby--who believes her to be Elinor. Isabella will do anything to continue the deception, and Elinor is forced to keep her true identity hidden as her cousin romances the man she loves. But as the Earl grows more suspicious, Elinor's lost shoe may be the key to unraveling this question of identity.

Book Recommendation
Tumblr media
In this haunting, lyrical fantasy set in 1930s Chicago, a talented ballerina finds herself torn between her dreams and her desires when she’s pursued by a secretive patron who may be more than he seems.
Growing up in Chicago’s Little Sicily in the years following the Great War, Grace Dragotta has always wanted to be a ballerina, ever since she first peered through the windows of the Near North Ballet Company. So when Grace is orphaned, she chooses the ballet as her home, imagining herself forever ensconced in a transcendent world of light and beauty so different from her poor, immigrant upbringing.
Years later, with the Great Depression in full swing, Grace has become the company’s new prima ballerina—though achieving her long-held dream is not the triumph she once envisioned. Time and familiarity have tarnished that shining vision, and her new position means the loss of her best friend in the world. Then she attracts the attention of the enigmatic Master La Rosa as her personal patron, and realizes the world is not as small or constricted as she had come to fear.
Who is her mysterious patron, and what does he want from her? As Grace begins to unlock the Master’s secrets, she discovers that there is beauty in darkness as well as light, finds that true friendship cannot be broken by time or distance, and realizes there may be another way entirely to achieve the transcendence she has always sought.
Coming 2.21.23 from Del Rey Books. Preorder here!
Fans of fairy tales, Beauty and the Beast, Death and the Maiden, ballet, Phantom of the Opera, dark romance, best friendship, Chicago, historical fantasy, magic, and music will like this book. Check it out :)
