💖, 🤩, and 🤲!!
💖 What made you start writing?
Not to sound too earnest or whatever, but I've wanted to be a writer since i was probably eight years old (my parents were both journalists, I loved telling stories, etc. etc.). In terms of fanfiction, I had things I wanted to see happen to characters I loved, and since it didn't happen in the show I was watching, I'd have to do it myself!
🤩 Who is your favorite character to write?
It's a lot of fun fleshing out Peg Hunnicutt, I'm ngl. But writing Hawkeye can be so special because he's clever and writing him makes me clever too, dammit. Or at least, makes me feel more clever. I also just love writing CJ Cregg, for literally no particular reason except I adore her.
🤲 Would you please share a snippet of a wip?
Sure! This is from the 'subverted noir' AU I started writing for M*A*S*H the other weekend:
Peg fiddles with Dr. Pierce’s stethoscope, which hangs off his desk, letting it trail through her fingers like a string of pearls, pitching her voice low as she looks up at him through her eyelashes, “I understand you’re quite the crackerjack surgeon, Dr. Pierce.” He blinks, noticing the shift in her voice, but all he says is, “You don’t look sick.” “I’m not looking for a surgeon for me. It’s for my husband.” “He has something wrong with his heart?” Dr. Pierce asks, and she smiles, because he’s like a bloodhound catching a scent, his eyes lighting up. Of course, he tries to hide it – no doctor wants to show it when they’re interested in a case – but he looks like he’s been presented with an interesting puzzle. She keeps her wording ambiguous, her heart starting to pound again. “You could say that.” “Well, fixing broken hearts is my specialty. It ought to be since I’ve broken so many myself.” He grins at his own joke. “Your conquests aside-.” “Look, Mrs. Hayden, trust me when I say that there’s nothing I’d rather do than take on a tricky case. But without a case history, with a consultation, without a patient, I just don’t know what you want me to say.” “I’m asking for your help.” “I don’t take patients by mail order. Or any order, for that matter. If you want, send your husband. I’ll gladly slap him on the rack and give him a lube job, but I can’t cure what I don’t know.” “That’s fine. I don’t want you to cure him.” “Come again?” “I want you to botch the surgery,” Peg says, her heart pounding so loudly in her ears that she can barely hear what she’s saying. Dr. Pierce stares at her, unblinking.

🥺 Is there a certain type of moment or common interaction between your characters that never fails to put you in your feels?
Look, I am a simple creature; if there is any level of fluff, I am onboard no questions asked. I wouldn't call it common, in my fics or overall in Sparxshipping writing anymore, but there are little scenes sometimes. And maybe even fluff isn't the right word, just that part when someone finally lets their guard down and they're honest and soft to the other one for the first time. I want it injected directly into my veins.
✨ Give you and your writing a compliment. Go on now. You know you deserve it. 😉
Legit the one I was hoping not to get lol. Umm...so as much as I bag on my old fics and teen Liz's writing, I'm very proud of myself for sticking with it and not giving up. It's made me a decent writer, it's given me awesome friends, and - somehow - it's inspired other people to write/draw/create amazing things?? It's a cycle I'm proud to be a part of, no matter how small my role is, and it wouldn't have been possible if I hadn't started writing when I was younger.

🛒 and ✨ for the fanfic writer asks <3 hope you’re having a great week!! ~ Chai
Thank you dear Chai, I want to have a sip of chai now 🤣
🛒 What are some common things you incorporate in your fics? Themes, feels, scenes, imagery, etc.
Hmmm there are many, my couples start off in a n unhinged sort of toxic way but they develop, they always do. I tend to write a lot about male abuse which many people don't care about. My main male characters are always like a coconut.
✨ Give you and your writing a compliment. Go on now. You know you deserve it. 😉
Nothing much really I'm certainly not a writer's writer but I do enjoy the stories I create, I read them in my free time just to watch my characters grow into a better person. So the plot development is one thing I enjoy about my fics.

🥺🤡 for the fanfic emoji asks!
Thank you for asking! :D I do so enjoy excuses to ramble, and I hope I've answered properly -- my brain is a bit mush tonight, alas.
🥺 Is there a certain type of moment or common interaction between your characters that never fails to put you in your feels? Especially when writing, I am a huge sucker for Doing Emotions Poorly, which occasionally means outbursts but for me is much more likely to involve significant looks or touches and doing everything possible to avoid actually talking. I love me some emotionally constipated idiots and their problems, whether romantic or otherwise. Give me a look of significance exchanged onscreen without dialogue, and it's exceedingly likely I'll spin something off that because it means something and I must explore. Watch me wallow happily in that time and time and time again. Maybe this is part of why I’m drawn to doomed ships; they seem to lend themselves to these sorts of moments. (I also enjoy writing the mourning of lost chances and the attendant morass of feels more than I should, whether that’s because someone is dead or gone or whatever. I hope that makes sense lol.)
🤡 What's a line, scene, or exchange you've written that made you laugh? Recently? I laughed entirely too hard at “A fucking crossbow,” while I was writing who shall i say is calling?, because while it seemed like an excellent displacing-grief-through-snark sort of line, it’s also just … yup. Yup. A fucking crossbow indeed. (Poor Aemon.) I still don’t know if it was supposed to be funny or not in context, but it amused me. I don’t honestly know how much I write that would be funny to most people, as opposed to me being easily amused or cackling diabolically in anticipation of people reading and swearing. The closest I’ve probably gotten to humour in the last decade is a Tumblr-prompted Musketeers AU, which isn’t at all what I’d have written of my own volition, except the prompts kept rolling in and, well, snowball. (I know I've laughed at my own snark before, but I don't think much recently-written has gotten there. Yet. Must fix that. Maybe once work gives me back my brain ...)

Fanfic Emoji Asks
Hello Pepsi~
😅 What’s a story or scene you’ve created that you’re a smidge embarrassed exists?
Answered Here :)
❌ What’s a trope you will never write?
Probably anything ‘Highschool AU’. I am not against the trope, per se. But I have less than zero interest in it personally, and am too old at this point to find it appealing. I prefer environments that take place outside of High Schools and other schools myself, and have no real desire to delve there as a concept or otherwise.
Thanks for sending in! :)

🧠 Tater and 😬?
🧠 Pick a character, and I’ll tell you my favorite headcanon for them.
My most consistent Tater headcanon is that he and Vanessa, the reporter from Channel 7, eventually get together. I like the idea of them together, and in fic I've used Bitty's proximity to Vanessa (via Tater) as a device to get him integrated into Providence's professional community.
😬 Which of your fics would you be most horrified for friends, family, or coworkers to stumble upon?
All of them? Nobody in my real life knows I write fic and while I know there's nothing to be ashamed of (I have definitely mentioned reading fic to my husband and people in my book club), I think there would be a lot of judgement ("Why not write something you can publish professionally?") or just lack of understanding of what fic is. Like, I'm pretty sure if I told my running partner about my fic (which I have been tempted to, many times, because we talk about everything and it's hard not to talk about WIPs when I'm trying to work out a plot point) she'd think it was a little odd and then accept it and be supportive. But it's hard to just throw that out in conversation, you know?
However, I do have a WIP that I would be pretty upset if a particular relative ever found, due to its subject matter.
Thank you for the asks!

🥺, 🤡 , 🤡 hard mode: not making fun of the darkling, 🛒, 🦅 as if i do not know the answer
Fanfic Emoji Asks
Is there a certain type of moment or common interaction between your characters that never fails to put you in your feels?
Inevitably a character lashing out in some way because of trauma and the other one seeing through it. (Or not seeing through it!)
What's a line, scene, or exchange you've written that made you laugh?
afshfhggjf these parameters are mean! It also made me realize that (unless making fun of the Darkling) I don’t really do much humor! These are the only vaguely silly things I could think of, and they’re still not like particularly funny?
This is from a random Fate Kotogil drabble I wrote for a prompt:
Tumblr media
And like I guess(??) some of the dialogue in my Hellsing roleswap AU (swapping out Integra with Seras) is at least meant to be a little wry but like there’s still a lot of not funny-ness going on ahaha
Tumblr media
I guess honorable mention to the one line I gave Nikolai where he calls Alina the entirely literal light of his life.
What are some common things you incorporate in your fics? Themes, feels, scenes, imagery, etc.
I already did this but trying to think of other stuff… I think I write meaningful handholding/offering a hand a lot? Any sort of characters making half hearted jokes to not really deal with the situation. Or saying something as a joke but they really really mean it. Idk I’m a sad banter enjoyer.
In fanfic I think my main tendency is to be like “well this thing happened in canon let’s sit these characters down and make them fully react to and talk about it”
Imagery and motifs are hard bc I try to shift that according to whatever source material I’m writing for and its respective imagery.
Do you outline fics or fly by the seat of your pants?
LOL so as you know I am an outliner! But I’m much less formal about it for fanfic. I usually just have a bullet point list to go off of. Or random scene ideas. And then when I start working on a scene in earnest, I’ll start blocking out events in a way that ends up kind of blending with drafting anyway, because I’ll get more detailed ideas as I go, specific actions, dialogue beats, etc.
I would’ve taken a screencap to elaborate but I’ve already gone through and revised over all of my detailed outlines like that atm, I only have very vague bullet point notes and that’s fairly self explanatory I think.

🤯🥺📚
Thank you so much for asking, my darling Ridea! I appreciate you.
🤯: What's a genre you struggle with as a writer (ex. romance, action, etc.)?
Action. Writing action scenes is something I really struggle with, which is not great considering most of my original work is fantasy and that always has wars.
🥺: Is there a certain type of moment or common interaction between your characters that never fails to put you in your feels?
This is such a basic answer, but love confessions. The moment the characters realize they're in love with the other person, and then when they tell them? IN MY FEELS.
📚: Would you ever want to turn writing into a career?
Yes! I've wanted to be an author since I was nine years old, so getting published is the end goal. That being said, I have had some of my poetry published, so I'm halfway there.

I'll ask after that secret number 8!
I only remembered secret number 8 because I saw your wip here! I'd started this one based on the same prompt, then lost said prompt and stopped working on it 😅
Instead of a snippet, I'm just dropping it all here - maybe that way I'll feel inspired to finish it?
———
It’s a full house for dinner tonight and, really, that should have tipped him off.
Bruce sits at the head of the table, smiling softly as he watches over everyone’s antics. Damian is regaling Dick with everything they saw at the zoo that day (Danny had been so happy to see Delilah the purpleback gorilla again, and her new little additions to the troupe, too!) and how well they are implementing the grant the Wayne Foundation had gifted them. Tim, Steph, Cass, and Duke are all engaged in a thumb-war tournament which Danny has no interest in participating in. It just wouldn’t be fair on them.
Danny loves that look. The one where Bruce’s eyes crinkle when he thinks none of the kids can see him. It oozes love and it makes Danny’s heart, his core, ache.
It’s been a little over a year since Alfred found him on the street and managed to wrangle him back to the manor to stay—even after the whole biting thing when he realised how rich they were.
A little over a year here and Danny’s starting to feel like family.
Starting to feel like he might, just maybe, like to make it official.
“Danny,” Bruce says, drawing everyone’s attention. Danny starts at his name, but Bruce’s voice is warm and calm, and his shoulders lose their tension almost immediately. “Danny, I have something I would like to tell you.”
“Uhhh…” is all Danny can croak out, eyes flicking back and forth between Bruce and the rest of them. Smooth. Looking good, Danny.
Except… they’re all happy. All smiles, all relaxed body language, all radiating calm and love and acceptance. Well, not Damian—his face is as thunderous as it always is—which at least means it’s nothing too out of the ordinary.
“Danny, first of all, I just want to impress upon you that this is in no way something you have to do. You are under no obligation to join us and, no matter what, you shall always be welcome with us in the manor.”
Wait, what? Danny squints at Bruce, trying to parse exactly what he’s saying… Is he—is this them asking to adopt him? Do they want to make it official, too?
It’s been a little over a year and of course Danny has imagined calling Bruce ‘Dad’. Of course he’s imagined being part of the family, of course he wants to make it official!
He can’t help the beaming grin or the bright and bubbling “Yes!” already waiting on his lips. All Bruce has to do is ask, all Danny needs to hear is—
“I’m Batman.”
The smile freezes on Danny’s face.
His lungs stop working, his heart stops working, he stops working, he just—
“And I’m Nightwing,” Dick smiles, breaking the awkward silence.
Danny’s eyes snap to him, and then down to Tim when he admits to being Red Robin. Duke is Signal, Steph is Spoiler. Damian begrudgingly tells him he’s Robin, but Danny can barely hear it over the ringing in his ears.
“I’m Black Bat.” Cass cocks her head, almost looking concerned. It always felt like she understood him the most. Whenever he was feeling low, too in his memories, or stewing after a nightmare, she was always there, ready to card her fingers through his hair and never mention his tears. It makes his heart ache to think of it now. “It’s okay, Danny.”
It’s meant to be reassuring, but how—how can it be okay? How?
Danny’s spent a little over a year with them. A little over a year with Batman.
Batman, who works with the Justice League, who works with…
A little over a year.
Just under 16 months since he escaped.
“Danny? Are you alright?” Bruce asks
Finally, his lungs kickstart and suck in a shuddering breath, only for everyone to drop their smiles.
Didn’t take them long, did it? Now that their ruse is up, there’s no kindness in their eyes, they’re just… cold, calculating. Evaluating.
“Why?” Danny gasps, his fingers tingling, his heart in his throat.
Just under 16 months since he—has he escaped? Or was this just another one of their experiments?
"I... I trusted you, why—" Danny chokes back a sob, gritting his teeth as his shoulders shake. Why? Why would they do this? "I was happy here, with you. I thought... Weren't you happy?"
"Danny..." Bruce is looking at him, eyes narrow and eyebrows pinched, in some cruel facsimile of confused concern and all Danny can think is how much of an actor he is. How well he can play the part of a doting father. How much he made him want that.
"I don't understand, why..."
"I'm sorry we didn't tell you before, I can imagine that it comes as a shock. We shouldn't have lied to you, Danny, but—"
"Stop it!" Danny slams his hands down on the table and pushes himself up on wobbly legs. Even standing, he feels so small. Smaller than Bruce, than all of his adopted siblings. They crowd above him when they all stand, too. "Just stop it! Why are you doing this, why are you still pretending? Stop it!"
It was easier, with Danny's biological parents. The knowledge that they'd do anything to get him on a lab table, to open him up and see what makes him tick, to rip him apart molecule by molecule, had always been there. He knew they hated ghosts. He knew they hated Phantom. He knew they hated him. It was easier because it was something he'd known all his life. When he died, when he became a ghost, he knew what to expect from them. It hurt, of course it did.
But it was easier than this.
"Danny, I'm going to need you to take a deep breath. You're having a panic attack and you need to breathe."
"Breathe?" Danny laughs, the sound harsh and choking, too high pitched in his hysteria. "You're joking, right? Or is this just more of the—the experiment?"
"Danny, please, we don't know what you're talking about, you—"
"You don't know? You're Batman! You work with the Justice League, you work with—" His words choke off as his stomach churns, bile rising in his throat. His whole body itches, screaming at him to leave, he can't go back, he can't, he can't, he can't!
Bruce takes a hesitant step forward and Danny scrambles back, his feet catching on the chair behind him and sending him careening to the floor. Where are the agents? Why aren't they swarming in, ready to apprehend him, strap him back on the table, carve him from the inside out.
"Please, Danny, calm down. We don't—"
Danny stops listening. His back hits the wall and he pulls his knees into his chest, his shoulders dipping down as he begins to sob. His heart throbs inside his throat, too painful to swallow around. Tears fall hot and heavy on his face.
Sure, he could run. He could phase out through the wall and he could be out of Gotham in a couple of hours. He's escaped the GIW once, he can do it again.
But that was before Batman knew who he was. Before he had the World's Greatest Detective on his tail.
Before he...
He really thought this would be different, you know?
He wanted to make it official.
"Why did... Why were you so nice to me? Why did you make me like you? I really—I really liked you. I-I thought we could be a family."
"Danny, we are a—"
"Don't lie to me!" Danny snaps, but the force of his anger leeches all the fight from him, and suddenly all that's left is a bone-weary tiredness. There’s a lump in his throat that hurts. There’s a line down his chest that burns. "I don't care. I don't care anymore, I don't. Just... don't make me go back there. Please."
Is it futile? He thought he knew how the GIW operated by now, the depths that they would go to achieve their results, but this... this was a whole new level of pain that Danny thought he had left behind him in Amity.
"We're not going to make you go anywhere, Danny, you're safe here, I promise."
"Safe? Safe? You must have—" he takes a deep breath, tries to stop the quivering of his voice. It’s all starting to make sense, now.  "The reason you're telling me who you are is because you must have told them everything already. I know the Justice League—I know you're working with them, which means the ex-experiment is over now, and they're coming to take me back. And I can't go back."
"Danny—"
"I can’t!” Danny glares at Bruce with all the rage he can, fingernails digging into his skin. “I’m not going back!"
"That's right, you're not going back, Danny. I won't let that happen." Bruce crouches down in front of Danny, his hands open and raised as if he's trying to say he's not a threat. "I don't know who you're talking about, and I'm sorry about that, but I can promise you that you’re not going back there. We will keep you safe."
Danny pulls himself closer, tucks himself further into the wall, eyes flickering all across the room waiting for that tell-tale flash of white as the agents start to swarm.
He should take his chances now and run, he should go, he needs to go!
The rest of them, his brothers and sisters of a little over a year, are spread out, giving him and Bruce some space. The same concern colours all of their faces. Why are they still pretending?
Steph is chewing on her thumb.
Danny liked Steph and her brash confidence, her jokes. She's been promising to paint his nails for months now, they've just never found the time. He was going to go for green and black, or maybe a galaxy theme, depending on what she felt comfortable doing.
He likes them all.
"You were supposed to be my family." His mouth turns down at the corners and his voice shakes like a child. "You were supposed to—why? Why would you—I don't understand why you would make me like you..."
"This isn't an experiment, Danny," Bruce's voice is steady, soothing. "I promise."
"But you work with them and—"
"Who do I work with?"
"The Justice League."
"Yes, I do, but we—"
"And the Justice League works with them. The GIW." Danny trembles with the name, clutching tightly onto his hoodie. "I'm not going back there, Bruce."
Danny doesn't miss Bruce's look over his shoulder, nor Tim's nod in return. Tim turns slightly to the side to hide his movements, but Danny bets he has his phone in his hand, probably letting them know they can take him now. Guess this is it, then. They'll be here soon, and he'll be gone.
"Kill me."
"Danny? What do—"
"If you ever had any kindness for me, if you ever cared, kill me. Please, Bruce. I can't do it again."
"Danny..."
"End me now. Take my core out and break it, please, before they get here."

Oh baby you knew I was coming
Yunho ❤️ because we've been talking about this
I'm not surprised you picked Spider-Man but I *am* surprised at your idol of choice for it...
*****
"Please?" your boyfriend begs, brown eyes wide and pleading. He looks both ways, then leads you down a darkened alley, not really waiting for your answer to the question that he'd just caught you off guard with.
"Really? That's what you want to do?"
Yunho nods as you laugh. The earnest expression on his face is killing you. You love your big nerd so much.
"Ok, come on."
With a wild grin, Yunho kisses your cheek, then starts to climb up the fire escape ladder behind him. When he's just high enough, he leans back to hang by his knees, facing you upside down. His mouth hovers just over yours.
"Got the right height on the first try? Have you practiced this?" you tease mercilessly, giggling as your boyfriend grasps the back of your head to pull you in for a kiss. It's clumsy, the two of you bouncing off each other a bit, him licking your chin by accident at one point, but then you find a rhythm, and it occurs to you that there are worse things than dating a Spider-Man superfan. 💕

For the fic writer emoji asks (hope I'm not repeating any!): 🙋‍♀️, 🛠, 🎉
No! Not repeating any, thank you for these 💜💜💜💜
🙋‍♀️ Do any irl people know you write fanfic?
Yes, actually, lol. One or two IRL friends, I think. And my family - they're pretty chill about it, lol. They know I write, but they don't have my username. (I know I'm kind of lucky that way, but my dad and I watch mash together so of course it comes up! Plus with the MASH Fanzine I wrote for, it felt a little silly to keep it to myself.)
🛠What tools/programs/apps do you use to write?
95% of the time I use Word. I mean, I switch back and forth between Word and GDocs, but it's 95% Word, because I've been freeloading the Microsoft subscription by hopping from institution to institution that provides it for free 😬 I also use the notes app on my phone, a family tree generator called Family Echo, and I use Milanote but only for planning plane crash.
🎉 What leads you to consider a fic a success?
When I'm happy with it... and when it reaches the people I was hoping it would reach! (Okay, now that the philosophical answer is out of the way: I adore comments. I am a slut for comments. A fic with lots of comments? Success.) But a fic is really a success if I have an excellent time writing it, tbh. Self-indulgence ftw

🦅 Do you outline fics or fly by the seat of your pants?
Outlines, baby! I try to get major plot points worked out before I fully commit to a long haul fic. It makes stuff a lot easier for me because I will forget the genius idea I had to tie things together at 2 in the morning, no matter how much I promise myself I won't. But that doesn't mean everything I outline makes it in. Let's bring up my favorite (and messiest) example, the Roll Here In Our Ashes outline (spoilers I guess too if you haven't read that in like a year, lol):
Tumblr media
Certain beats I thought about including didn't make it to the final chapter- instead of Bloom considering how she was an oops kid in Ch5, she's more focused on how easily Daphne adapted to being royalty, while she didn't. The sparring scene in Chapter 6 didn't make it either, because I didn't want too many scenes in that chapter (and it got split into 6 and 7 anyway). So, TL:DR - I outline, but if stuff needs to change I'll change it.
😬 Which of your fics would you be most horrified for friends, family, or coworkers to stumble upon?
Ha, my coward answer is any of them, because the thought of most people knowing I still write fanfic is terrifying.
My real answer...is a sparxshipping fic I wrote in 2011. I am avoiding saying the exact name of it because it is really, truly terrible. I was at the age where I thought I was 'mature enough' to write darker themes, but I was not and I refuse to even skim it and see how badly I fucked up! It'd be embarrassing if people from my family or work found my current fanfiction, but at least it's well-written. The same can't be said for 2011 Liz.
EDIT: Just a fun update for y'all, I went back and did skim the fic in question, and I then had to go back, re-read and edit it because it turns out 2011 Liz used words no longer acceptable in 2023. So that was fun. It was very bad, there are plot contrivances that made no sense, guns were used for some reason???, and I think I owe all Sky fans an apology for fucking with his character so badly.

🔪 Used as Bait, Parting Words Regret, and Defiant Whumpee, ✏️?
🔪 Fuck, marry, kill with tropes!
I want to marry Defiant Whumpee so I can have that one all the time, fuck Used as Bait because yes, fantastic, and kill Parting Words Regret. That one isn't always for me.
✏️ What is your fave fic from another writer?
That is... super hard to say. I love everything @lifblogs has written, I'm a big fan of the loving polyamory in @ashleybenlove's fics, @howtowhumpyourhiccup has amazing whump and grasp of the characters, and @lilliths-httyd-blog has amazing execution of different headcanons. All these writers have written tons of fics, so it's so difficult. I can't pick one. (And sorry. Just listing who I've been reading lately.)

Fanfic Emoji Asks
Hello There :D :D
🛒 What are some common things you incorporate in your fics? Themes, feels, scenes, imagery, etc.
I'm really big on atmosphere, and fanfic has a unique place where the people reading it have a decent grasp of the characters beforehand. So I can put some extra emphasis on place setting without having to go too far into say, how a character looks. I still describe looks and the like; but if I want the atmosphere conveyed really well, then I'll do my best to focus on describing scenery.
When people are in certain places; there's a unique element to all of them. For instance, I had a lot of fun describing a club in this little drabble here (Shameless self promotion). Situations change greatly depending on person, time of day, feeling. Emotional awareness.
When someone is bleeding, there might be a smell to it. When there's pain, it's going to be experienced by the person in varying degrees. I like to try my hardest to really put the reader in the moment. What's the air like? How is a character reacting based on the type of character they are? One of my favourite things in stories of any kind is when I'm reading, and I can say, feel the dust in my mind in an old bookshop the characters exploring. I can hear the soft wind, imagine the state of the character. Etc.
I'll end up getting thematic quite often, and I have a real weakness for banter. My characters will have a lot of dialogue sometimes because I'm good at it and like it when there's lots of back and forth. You can learn and experience a lot through character behaviour, and I like to put some emphasis on that too.
I have some common tropes I like, or things characters do. Depends on how G-Rated we're talking here, because when I'm writing mature or explicit work you'll definitely notice common themes I tend to fall back on in all of those. I try to change it up because not every pairing or setting is the same, but some stuff gets. Repeated. Depends on the situation, though. Heh.
Thanks for sending in!
