Raising Kids with them - Overwatch Heroes
Featuring: Cassidy, Mercy, Moira, Roadhog, Junker Queen Warnings: Moira. A/n: this isn't exactly the official setting for each character - but this is fanfiction so we're gonna ignore it lol Navigation Overwatch - MASTERLIST Consider becoming a member! <3
Tumblr media
Odessa Stone (Junker Queen)
She wouldn't be into having kids at first - thinking that something so small would make her weak.
It does - but she refuses to admit it.
You both decided adoption was probably the best option - adopting a sweet baby girl.
I think Dez would be all about teaching her kids to fight.
Even before they've learnt to walk.
"C'mon kiddo! I was fighting at your age!"
Sometimes you would find her playing with your baby - making it look as if they were both boxing.
It was quite a funny sight.
You'll come home from work and find them watching wrestling or something.
Probably swears around your kid.
Your babies first word is probably 'cunt' or 'fuck'
You're usually the one to take your daughter to school, but on the off chance Dez does - the rest of the parents are scared of her.
The kids adore her though.
She'll struggle doing stuff like diaper changes at first - as anyone would
~~~
As your daughter gets older - she grows into a mini version of Dez.
She wont call her 'mom' - instead calling her something silly like 'cunt' or 'fuckwit'
Dez gets a real kick out of it - and does the same.
Dez would be a little disappointed if your kid didn't want to fight, though she'd still be supportive - even if she didn't really understand.
Cries on your daughters wedding day - but tries to hide it.
"I'm not crying cunt, you're crying"
Tumblr media
Mako Rutledge (Roadhog)
I think Mako would be really good with kids-
Big brooding dad & cute tiny daughter combo type vibe
Maybe she's really talkative, and he just listens.
He'd let her put clips in his hair and paint his nails.
It's giving Gru when his girls are doing ballet.
He's always the one to hold the kids when needed - since he barely has any issue.
His hands are just so big.
Even if you had like - 4 kids he would have no trouble carrying them all.
You were grateful that you could have some time alone sometimes, as Mako is a very competent father.
'crane's hand back while driving when kid opens snack' dad
Your kid might pretend to wear his shoes - and they can barely even stand properly in them, let alone walk.
Tumblr media
Moira O'Deorain
Does not want kids.
Only agreed because you would make a face at her whenever you saw a baby.
test-tube baby fr
Literally will not go to another doctor about her kids health.
Does she know anything about kids? No.
Does she think she knows more than the QUALIFIED children's doctors? Absolutely she does.
MIGHT agree to taking your kid to see Angela - if you're not too keen on her doing science on your kid.
HATES being called mom.
She's fine with your kid just calling her by her name.
This was weird on the first day of school - most parents thinking your kids other parent wasn't in the picture.
She was fine with that idea - meaning that you 'left' your old partner for her. Narcissist.
~~~
Your babies first word was definitely her name.
but in the cute baby way.
'Moiwa'
When your kid gets a little older, maybe they'll ask about Moira's arm.
"This is what happens when you smoke"
Your kid will never even THINK about smoking ever again.
It isn't until they're 30 that they realise that wasn't true.
Prefers to keep her kids away from science - as much as it was important to her.
She'll barely talk to you about it either - which may be hard if you're also a part of Talon.
Having to bring your kids to work with you is definitely SOMETHING.
You'd prefer for them to be with you rather than with Moira, though.
Your kids are NOSY, so you have to bend the truth a little bit.
Just to make sure they don't view their mom as the ruthless geneticist that she ACTUALLY is.
"Why is miss Amelie blue?"
"She didn't eat her vegetables"
Tumblr media
Angela Ziegler (Mercy)
BIG on consistent check-ups.
Sometimes she'll do them herself, but she prefers the professionals.
She doesn't specialise in child care, but she does make sure that your child is going to the best doctor in the field.
Definitely enjoys shopping for baby clothes.
Works with baby on lap - letting the little guy play with her fingers.
Aeroplane noises while getting the baby to eat.
does NOT let the kid eat candy until they're like 10.
This was hard for you - because it meant you couldn't have candy in the house.
Secret stash of sweets hidden somewhere in your car.
One in Overwatch HQ too.
ALWAYS prepared.
Baby needs a snack? She's got cut up grapes in her bag.
Always has wipes and diapers.
"Hey babe? Where's their bottle?" She's already retrieved it from the drying rack.
Tiny first-aid kid in her bag at ALL times.
~~~
If your kid wants their ears pierced at Claire's. ABSOLUTELY NOT.
Angela is panicked at any idea of infections - especially when it comes to your kid.
Your kiddo is made to wear clip on earrings until they qualify to be pierced by a professional.
Will always make sure places are baby safe before you take your kid there.
~~~
She's calm 90% of the time - she just cares about general safety and health.
Matching onesies with your kid.
Chilli and Bingo core :)
Angela would LOVE doing Halloween costumes for your kiddo.
They're always so CUTE.
If she has the time, she'll put together matching family ones.
Tumblr media
Cole Cassidy
Baby carrier dad.
Like he'll just carry your baby everywhere.
Gets upset when he has to put the little guy down.
"We're just fine over here. No need to pull us apart"
Your child definitely prefers him to you - which you're fine with.
It's just so cute seeing them play together.
I'd say he's a girl dad - the type to teach her how to shoot, or play football with.
9 times out of ten, he'll fall asleep while reading her a bedtime story, so he always just ends up sleeping in your daughters bed with her.
The two of them cuddled up on the tiny mattress - he's holding your little girl so protectively.
~~~
The moms at the nursery you take your daughter to all think Cole is hot.
Too right.
They just need to learn to keep their hands to themselves.
Your kid is very protective of him - and your relationship.
If you're married, she'll be like;
"Daddy, show her your wedding ring!! Isn't it nice?"
It makes Cole chuckle every time.
Cole didn't even need to shut the women down - your kid was doing all the work for him.
~~~
Definitely the dad that all of your kids friends like
"Your dad is so cool!"
He's always invited to their little tea parties and stuff.
Yes, he will put on the crown and princess dress.

Relationships: Angela Giarratana/Amanda Lehan-Canto Summary: “I wanna get drunk and smash his car with a golf club.” Amanda chuckled, a lump in her throat, “Then eat cake. Or shove my head in a wall or something.” “Don’t do that.” Angela scolded gently, “It’ll fuck up your pretty face.” Amanda blinked, “I can’t tell if you’re joking or flirting with me.” “Depends,” the brunette shrugged, “are you into it?”
or, an AU in which Amanda desperately needs someone to be her pretend-lover, and Angela forgets the part about pretending.
thank you @babychosen for keeping me sane, and @shesmore-shoebill for keeping me writing <3

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~°~❦~°~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
     “Alright the event this Friday, what’s everyone wearing?” Courtney said, putting her legs up on the table in front of her.
    You were lounging around the studio with almost the entire Smosh cast in between shoots.
    “Exactly what I’m wearing right now?” Angela lifted her head from Amanda’s lap and gestured to her sweatshirt.
     “Very funny,” Courtney said.
     “Honestly same,” Shayne agreed, looking up from his phone.
     Courtney shot him a look but secretly you agreed with him. It wasn’t that you didn’t care about the YouTube event Smosh was going to, it was just that you weren’t exactly excited about it. You kind of had a history of embarrassing yourself at things like this. Like last month when you tripped in your impossibly tall heels and landed in the lap of a very unhappy old man. In his defense, you had spilled wine down the front of his dress shirt.
     “As long as there’re no heels involved, I don’t really care what it is,” You said.
     “You people have no sense of style,” Courtney faked disgust.
     “Speak for yourselves, this chain begs to differ,” Ian walked into the room, pretending to model the outfit he was wearing.
     “He wears one chain and suddenly it’s ‘his brand’,” Amanda joked.
     “Hey laugh all you want, but this thing’s a magnet for the ladies.”
     Everyone burst out laughing and Ian mocked offense.
     “Well I for one think you look great,” you smiled at him and he beamed back at you.
     “Besides,” he continued, “I have to look good ‘cause my ex-girlfriend is going to be at the event this Friday. I bet she’s bringing that perfect boyfriend of her’s too who ‘has a real, important job’.”
     “Wait, the same girlfriend who broke up with you at the last event?” Damien asked.
     You hadn’t been at Smosh yet then, but you’d heard the story multiple times.
     “That’s the one. And now I get to show up a year later, still without a date.”
     “If only you had a girlfriend you could bring, but oh wait, that’s right—” Shayne teased.
     “That’s right,” Ian agreed
     “I’ll be your date,” you burst out.
     You didn’t know what made you say it. Maybe you sympathized with having embarrassing moments at classy gatherings. Maybe you just felt like helping your boss out. Or maybe, just maybe, it had something to do with the fact that you may or may not have had a tiny crush on Ian when you first started working at Smosh.
     But that was a long time ago…ok maybe months ago, and something you’d never admit aloud. You were just offering to help out a friend. Right?
     “Really? You’d do that for me?” Ian asked you.
     “Sure! No one has to know it’s our first date—or not-first-date. We can tell your ex we’ve been dating for months.”
    “That actually might work,” Ian grinned at you.
    “Ooh, I can pick out matching outfits for you guys!” Courtney interjected.
     “No,” you both said in unison.
     “Well, I’ll pick you up on Friday at 8:00 for our not-first-date,” Ian looked at you, his eyes gleaming.
     “See you then,” you tucked a strand of hair behind your ear.
     “Actually you guys will see each other in like 45 minutes for TNTL,” Amanda said.
     “Right.” You said.
     After this Ian left the room and you turned back to your friends who were all looking at you as if they knew something you didn’t.
     You took in their scheming stares. “What?”
₊˚ ✧ ‿︵‿୨୧‿︵‿ ✧ ₊˚
     The rest of the week passed fairly quickly with no more talk of the event except for Ian asking your advice on what to wear—which everyone seemed to think so adorable for reasons you couldn’t understand or just refused to entertain.
     And suddenly, just like that it was Friday and you were answering your door to a nervous-looking Ian holding out flowers to you.
     “Since it’s our ‘first date’,” he winked at you and you rolled your eyes at him, a smile blooming on your face, “I thought I’d bring you these.”
     “Thank you,” you said, “and you look great!”
     And he did. His maroon suit fit him perfectly and you couldn’t help but notice that it did end up matching the light pink dress with a crimson belt you chose.
     “And you look…wow.” He admired you and it took all of you not to blush at his words.
     He took you to his car, and insisted on opening your door for you since it was a ‘first date’. You looked over at Ian from the passenger seat and thought how you were surprised at how much of a gentleman he could be. Your goofy, laid-back boss definitely had a romantic side and would make some girl very happy someday, you thought.
    By the time you arrived at the event, you and Ian had barely said a word to each other. Which was odd, to say the least, seeing as you never really felt awkward around him or anybody at Smosh.
     “You ready for this?” Ian asked you as you stepped out of the car and headed toward the building the event was held at.
     You answered by taking his hand in yours and smiling up at him.
     You walked into the venue together and took in the layout. A makeshift stage had been set up for guest speakers at one end and as for the rest of it—cocktail tables scattered throughout the room, lights hanging from the ceiling and trailing down the walls and onto the refreshment tables lining the edges of the room, and hundreds of people, some who you recognized and others you didn’t, mingling and eating and—in the case of your friends—waving at you and Ian.
     You two walked over to them. Everyone took in your fingers intertwined.
     “Can’t keep your hands off her?” Angela teased Ian.
     “I uh—”
     You thought you sensed a faint blush on Ian’s cheeks as he tried to respond.
     You interrupted. “It’s a fake date, remember? Would you prefer we stood 8 feet apart at all times?”
     “So,” you turned to Ian, “where is this ex of yours?”
    “Yeah, now that you mention it, I haven’t seen her yet,” Damien said.
    “And anyone could spot her curly red bush—I mean hair—a mile away,” Shayne joked.
     “Maybe she’s not here yet,” Ian said, and then to you, “let’s go get some drinks.”
     He led you over to one of the refreshment tables, and as you were walking, you saw her.
     A tall, gorgeous woman in a tight green dress stood about 20 feet away from you. This had to be her, you thought, looking at her auburn curls done up in a twisted updo that made your simple bun look…well, simple.
     You nudged Ian, “Found your ex.”
     He looked over at her, his brow furrowed, and then recovering quickly he looked back at you.
     “Yep, that’s her.”
     “Well, then let’s go introduce ourselves as a couple.”
     “No,” he said quickly, and then added “I mean, no not yet. We don’t want to seem too desperate.”
     You looked at him curiously but figured he was probably right.
     You had a new idea.
     “Then let’s give her a little show.”
     “(Y/n), what are you—”
     You dragged him more into his ex-girlfriend’s line of vision.
     “Ok, now kiss me.”
     “What?”
     “She’s looking, kiss me.”
      He looked at you like you might be crazy but he also had a look of determination on his face. Determined to impress his ex, you figured. He leaned in slowly and suddenly his mouth was on yours, kissing you quickly. It was awkward at first but as you pulled apart and looked to make sure the woman was still watching you—she was—you thought that it hadn’t been altogether bad.
     “That was, um, thank you for…that,” Ian said, breathless.
     “Sure,” you said, “anything for a good vengeance plot.”
     “Oh, be careful,” Ian said suddenly,
and you looked around, confused. “Old man two o’clock.”
     “Ha ha, very funny,” he elbowed him in the ribs remembering the horrors of last event, but you were grinning as you did so.
     “Hey, ouch!” He laughed, “We’re supposed to be in love remember?”
     And so that’s how you spent the rest of the night. Making sure she could see you when you touched Ian or pretended to laugh at a joke he made or leaned in close as if you were whispering something in his ear.
     As the night went on it became easier and easier to pretend to be a couple. You hadn’t talked to Ian’s ex yet—he always had some reason for not going over to her. But you thought you’d done a good job of making her think you were dating.
     And the truth was, you were enjoying yourself. You were having a great time, spending hours with Ian.
     Like now, as you looked in Ian’s ex-girlfriend’s direction before saying to Ian, “So, since this is a date I guess I should do this.” You wrapped your arms around his neck. “And tell you how gorgeous your eyes are.” They really were, you thought as you stared into them.
     Ian leaned closer to you, planting a kiss on your jawline. “And since it’s a date I guess I should tell you how you shine brighter than all the lights in the room and how I’ve never seen anyone more beautiful.”
     “And I should pull you closer,” you added, grabbing his lapels.
     “And then maybe I would tell you how much I wanted your lips on mine. Again,” he said.
     He leaned farther towards you and your lips met his. He kissed you, really kissed you this time. He was gentle at first, but then his hands were in your hair as he kissed you harder and you leaned into it, kissing him back.
     “For a fake date this sure seems pretty real.”
     You broke apart, looking up and finding Courtney standing in front of you smiling.
     Your voice came out more breathy than you would have liked. “We were just—Ian’s ex is right there and—”
     “She’s not even over here,” Courtney said looking between you too. “See?”
     You looked around you and realized she was gone. How long had she been gone? You let yourself imagine what it would be like if this was a real first date. Would that be so bad? Was it bad if it already felt real?
     Courtney left you guys with a cryptic smile before walking over to a table with drinks on it.
     “So,” you started, “I—”
     “I’ll be right back,” Ian said, then quickly walked towards the door at the back of the venue.
     You stood there for a second. Was he avoiding you? Just leaving after you’d shared a moment like that? Was the kiss that bad?
      You walked back over to the table where all of your friends were standing and chatting.
     “Hey! Where’s Ian going?” Courtney asked you
     “Bathroom?” You guessed.
     You scanned the room. There was Ian’s ex again. Now she shows up, you thought wryly.
     Courtney followed your gaze, “You know her?”
     You looked at her, “That’s Ian’s ex-girlfriend.”
    “No, it’s not,” she said.
    “What? Yes it is.”
     “Here,” Shayne pulled out his phone and a moment later showed you a picture of your boss with his arm around a short woman with red hair, “that’s Ian’s ex.”
     You were shocked. “But then who’s she?”
     “That’s a question for Ian,” Angela said, pointing towards him. You saw him walking towards you and you met him halfway.
     “Ian? Who’s the woman in the green dress?”
      He looked taken aback by the question, and putting his hands in his pockets, he said, “What do you mean?”
     “Well, apparently you never dated her.”
     “Um, about that” he started, hesitating, and then taking a deep breath he answered you. “I don’t know that woman. I’ve never seen her in my life.” He admitted this in a rush, looking for your reaction.
     “Why did you tell me she was your ex-girlfriend?”
     He looked down, almost bashful. “My ex isn’t at this event.”
     You took a step back, in shock, “Then why did you need me to be your fake date?”
     He looked at you intently, “I didn’t…need a fake date, I mean.”
     “But—”
     “I did, originally. But then I found out my ex wasn’t going to be able to make it because her and her boyfriend both have the flu.” He started to smile, then stopped himself, coughing, “Which is really too bad.”
     Another time you might have laughed, but now you stopped yourself, rolling your eyes at him.
     “So you lied to me?” You asked him, hurt.
     “I didn’t mean to—
     “But if you knew your ex wasn’t coming, then what’s this?” You gestured between the two of you. You were asking yourself just as much as him.
     “I may have—withheld the truth—because I,” he cleared his throat, “I may have wanted to go on a date with you.”
     “What?” Of all the answers you were expecting…
     “I think you’re great (Y/n), and I’ve wanted to ask you out for a while but I never quite knew how, and then you offered to be my date to this thing and it was going to be perfect—even if it was fake—and I couldn’t bring myself to tell you the truth. I’m sorry.”
     “So yes, I lied to you. But I meant what I said though,” Ian said softly, “about you being beautiful and about wanting to kiss you.”
     You thought back through the night, taking all this in. All the fake moments that apparently weren’t so fake. For either of you, you realized. Because you had enjoyed being his pretend date, even if at some point you stopped pretending.
     “I just wish you would have asked me to be your real date. I would have said yes you know,” you told him.
     “Really?” He was definitely blushing now and you grinned up at him.
     “The night’s not over yet, we could still make this an official first date,” you said.
     “(Y/n), will you go out with me?”
     “I’d love to Ian.”
     He began slow dancing with you even though this most definitely was not a slow dancing event.
     “Ian!”
     As you looked into his eyes, though, and you saw the way he was looking at you—like he’d been waiting for this for a long time—you couldn’t ignore how perfect this moment was and you let him sway you.
     “Not bad for a first date, Hecox,” you joked.
     “Here’s to many more?”
     “Definitely.”
     He kissed you, your first officially real first kiss, and you couldn’t have been happier.
     Cheering erupted and you looked over where all of your friends were standing, whistling and clapping at you.
     “Still think it’s a fake date?” Courtney called to you.
     You looked at all the people around you, some of which had begun to stare at your display. You looked at Ian looking at you like you were the only girl in the world. You looked back at your friends, still waiting for your response.
     “I think nothing’s ever been more real.”
with you, there's no pretending
word count: 2165 chapter: 1/? Ever since freshman orientation, when Angela first noticed Amanda sitting in the gym bleachers, she’d been head-over-heels in love with her.
Angela was going to kill Arasha.
Earlier that week, Arasha asked Angela if she could interview her about playing Grace Chasity in their high school’s upcoming production of Nerdy Prudes Must Die. Arasha eagerly volunteered to write this article for her journalism class, hoping that Angela’s insight would help her assignment stand out. Angela knew her friend had been working all year to impress her teacher and secure the position of Editor-in-Chief for the next school year.
Just for fun, Angela made her best friend beg, playfully acting stubborn and difficult about the request—much to Chanse's amusement, who had a blast recording the whole thing and laughing at the two of them. In the end, Angela agreed, and the girls made plans to meet at their favorite local coffee shop on Saturday.
That morning, she took Spork to the vet for a routine checkup, which, thankfully, hadn’t taken longer than anticipated. After making a quick stop to drop him off at home, Angela arrived at the coffee shop just in time to find a table near the back before the usual afternoon rush filled the place. She sat facing the door so Arasha could easily spot her when she arrived, then mindlessly scrolled on her phone to pass the time.
Out of the corner of her eye, Angela noticed a girl with long, wavy brunette hair enter the coffee shop. She looked up, expecting to see her friend rushing over to greet her. But instead, in her place stood Amanda Lehan-Canto.
Ever since freshman orientation, when Angela first noticed Amanda sitting in the gym bleachers, she’d been head-over-heels in love with her. She remembered leaning over and whispering (a little too loudly judging from the pointed looks the kids in front of them had given her) to ask Chanse who the new girl was.
“Who are you talking about? There’s like a million people here,” Chanse responded, wildly swiveling his head around trying to figure out who Angela was referring to.
Angela slapped his arm and pointed discreetly to the girl a couple of rows above them, “Over there, idiot!”
“Oooooooh, someone’s got a crushhhhhh!”
“Stop it! Could you be any more obvious?” She sunk further into her seat, “Do you know who she is or not?”
“Nope, but I could find out.”
Later, Angela learned her name and that she’d just moved to Los Angeles from Boston. Despite Chanse’s insistence that Angela should introduce herself and befriend her, Angela just hadn’t been able to bring herself to do it.
That was almost four years ago, and even now in their senior year, Angela was no closer to Amanda than when she first laid eyes on her. Even when they’d been in the same AP Psychology class sophomore year, Angela had always been too nervous to say more than a few pleasantries. She didn’t want to come off as overly eager or that she was scaring Amanda away.
Angela admired Amanda from afar, how she greeted a table of friends with hugs and a “How are you?” and how freely she chatted and laughed with the baristas. The coffee shop seemed to brighten with her presence.
But then Amanda turned and met Angela’s gaze. Shit, she’d been caught staring. Angela tried her best to recover, her face reddening. She turned in the other direction, pretending to search through her tote bag for something. She fumbled with her AirPods and pulled out a book, quickly flipping it open to her bookmarked page.
“Hey! Angela, right?” Oh no, Angela recognized that voice. She glanced up at the girl speaking to her. Thank goodness for all those acting classes that taught her how to mask her emotions. She hoped her face looked calm and nonchalant, but also friendly and inviting. Oh, and maybe cool and suave as well. Honestly, Angela would take anything over looking overwhelmed at the fact that her long-time crush was now talking to her.
“That’s me!” Just be cool.
Amanda sat down in the seat across from her, and that’s when the panic really set in. “I’m Amanda. We had AP Psych with Mr. Hecox together.”
“Oh yeah, that’s right!” She prayed that her voice wouldn’t embarrassingly start cracking, “His class was definitely an interesting one, especially with the random dark jokes he’d thrown into the middle of his presentations.”
Amanda chuckled lightly at her comment, and Angela felt her smile widen and her shoulders loosen. But when there was no indication of her leaving, Angela got nervous again.
“Sorry, I don’t mean to sound rude, but is there a reason you sat down? Not that I mind talking to you. Not at all. It’s just, um, I’m meeting my friend, Arasha, here in a little bit—oh, you might know her from Journalism then. Since you’re the Editor-in-Chief this year, right? Well, so you probably know that she’s writing a piece on the school’s musical, and she asked to interview me. So, I don’t think you can stay here for long. Oh my god, I sound super rude right now, don’t I? Shoot, I swear I—,”
“Angela, breathe,” Amanda leaned forward and placed a hand over hers, interrupting her rambling. A thousand questions began spinning around in her head. Can she tell I’m freaking out? Is my hand abnormally sweaty? Am I making a fool of myself right now? Is she this touchy with everyone? Why. Is she. Touching. My hand?!
So much for keeping it cool.
“Did Arasha not tell you? I’m actually filling in for her. She messaged our class on Slack this morning asking if someone could take over because she woke up super sick,” Amanda explained.
“Oh shoot, maybe I missed that text from her,” Angela opened her texts with Arasha and briefly scrolled through to check even though she knows for certain that this a certified Arasha prank.
angela: you’re kidding me arash no way you’re sick
Immediately, Angela got a response. She could just picture Arasha’s smug face.
arasha: oh yeahhh i’m totally sneezing up a storm rn
angela: arasha lalani more like arasha lie-lani
arasha: lame but you’ll thank me later now go have fun on your date! but not too much fun ;’)
angela: NOT A DATE i hate you sm
arasha: you’re welcomeee
Amanda raised an eyebrow playfully, “Everything good with Arasha?”
“Yeah, everything’s good,” Angela fumbles with her phone again, shoving into the pocket of her zip up hoodie without even turning it off.
“Okay, good.”
“Good.” Oh no, did I just make it weird?
Amanda pulls her laptop out of her purse, “Ready to get started then?”
“Let’s do this thing.”
Amanda readied her fingers over the keys and looked over at Angela, ready to take notes like a professional journalist. “So, what can audiences expect from your performance as Grace Chasity in Nerdy Prudes Must Die?”
“Soup,” Angela answers cheekily.
“I’m sorry, soup?”
“Yep, soup! I mean who doesn’t like soup? A classic chicken noodle? Or a butternut squash soup?” Angela gasps animatedly, “What about a garlic tomato bisque? With a grilled cheese?! Come on, how could anyone hate soup?”
Amanda chimes in with a grin, “Broccoli cheddar though? Very divisive, I will say!”
“Ugh! I do secretly love a broccoli cheddar!”
“So do I! But have to ask again, Angela, what does this have to do with Grace Chasity?”
“You’ll have to wait and see. I will say though, Grace’s preferred soup is definitely dirty.”
Amanda laughs, “I feel like you’re purposely trying to confuse me now.”
“Gotta sell tickets somehow, Amanda!” She winks, to which Amanda laughs again. That sound, the resonance of it, settles into Angela’s chest and fills her with a blooming warmth.
As the interview progressed, Angela’s initial jitters fade away. Each question Amanda asked felt less like an interrogation and more like a conversation she’d have with friends. By the time they reached the final question, she realized she’d very much enjoyed Amanda’s company.
“Alright, I think that’s everything,” Amanda closed her laptop and slipped it back into her bag. “Thank you again for doing this interview with me. I know I’m not who you were expecting, but I’m glad I got to chat about the musical with you anyway.”
Angela shook her head bashfully. “Of course, it was no problem.”
They both gathered the rest of their things and stood up, though Amanda suddenly moved in for a hug. Angela returned the embrace, even though she was still a little shell-shocked from the whole afternoon. Note to self: Amanda’s a hugger.
“Shit, I’m sorry,” Amanda pulled away. “I always forget not everyone’s down for physical touch, and then I go and make it uncomfortable by hugging you.”
“No, it was alright. Don’t worry about it,” smiled Angela, reassuring Amanda. Neither of the girls said anything after that, leaving them staring at each other in awkward silence for a little too long. At least, it was awkward for Angela, given the whole “I’m in love with you” part. She really hoped she wasn’t smiling too much like an idiot. Maybe she should stop smiling. No, that would be off-putting as hell to randomly stop smiling. Maybe she should say somethi—
Amanda cleared her throat, “It was nice talking to you. I hope to see you around sometime.” Phew.
She waved to the retreating Amanda, “Yeah, I’ll see you around.” But there was still a voice inside her that urged her to say something more. This is your chance, Angela!
“Wait!” Angela called out, causing Amanda to turn back around. “You should, um, get my number. You know, just in case you have any more questions while you write the article.”
“Sounds like a plan,” Amanda handed Angela her phone with an amused expression. Angela carefully entered her information on the new contact page and passed it back to Amanda before saying a last goodbye and letting Amanda walk out.
Angela blinked a couple of times, hoping to snap back into the present. It didn’t help—she was too dazed from the whole interaction. Amanda Lehan-Canto had just talked to her. Holy. Shit.
After collecting herself a little more, she hopped in her car and drove home. Every moment of their conversation replayed in Angela’s mind: the answers she had given, the stupid jokes she had cracked, the way Amanda had sounded when she laughed. She pinched her arm over and over again to prove to herself that this all really happened.
As she pulled into the driveway, her phone lit up with a notification from her group chat with Chanse and Arasha—it was unfortunately named “ANGELAAAAAAA!” after the way her friends often called her name in disappointment.
arasha: your location says youre home angela spill how did it go
angela: wtf are you stalking me
arasha: that’s beside the point
chanse: explainnnn pleaseee
arasha:  i set ang up on a date with amanda lehan cantooooooooo
chanse: A DATE?!
angela: NOT! A! DATE!!! it was an interview that arasha FLAKED ON
arasha: semantics
chanse: HOW DID IT GO
angela: it was chill she asked me about nerdy prudes and i gave her my number in case she had follow up questions
chanse: you gave her your number???? damn ang is finally make some moves took you long enough
arasha: YOU’RE FUCKING WELCOME MAN she would still be sitting on her ass pining away if it weren’t for me
angela: jeez it was just a casual thing calm yourselves
chanse: why don’t you text her and say you forgot to mention something earlier just to get the convo rolling
angela: um bitch i’m tryna play it cool here don’t wanna seem too eager plus i just realized i didn’t get her number…
chanse: angelaaaaaaaaaaaaaa dude you fumbled that big time
arasha: i put in so much work to make that happen and you fucked it wasted effort
chanse: you idiot i cannot believe you
arasha: you got no game fr
angela: Y’ALL I WAS PANICKING CAN YOU BE A LITTLE MORE GENTLE
chanse: no you don’t get a pass for this arash do you have her number
arasha: nah we text on slack also it would be hella strange if ang had her number without asking directly
chanse: ugh true i guess
At this point, she had made it up the stairs and into her bedroom. Frustrated with her friends, Angela tossed her phone onto her bed before promptly flopping down and burying her face into the pillows. And then, she screamed. So loud and so long that she barely heard the “ding” of a new notification.
Angela rolled over and felt around for her phone, already groaning at what she expected to be another annoying message from her annoying friends.
unknown number: hey this is amanda
Her eyes widened.
unknown number: i realized way too late that i never gave you my number so i thought i’d shoot you a text so you could saved it too :)
Angela threw her phone again and went back to screaming.
a lil author's note: i started this amangela high school au a longggg time ago, practically when this blog started because it's one of my favorite tropes to mull around in my mind. funnily enough, this first chapter was written for the smosh girlies week back in feb, but i deleted the whole thing because i hated what i wrote, so the first draft has been lost to time. then, i wrote it again and abandoned it again. it wasn't until my wonderful friend @babychosen asked me about it recently that i decided to revisit it and finally finish it for all y'all to enjoy! this is for @babychosen, @unknownteapot, @poppyfamily, and @shesmore-shoebill. thanks guys for always yelling about amangela with me <3
The Outsiders Prompt Fic #12- I didn't know where else to go
This is for @ramennoodlezzzao3 who requested prompt eight with Ponyboy. Sorry for the wait, I hope you like this. I wrote it sleep deprived after work and it's unedited so I apologiz wfor any typos.
Tap. Tap. Tap.
When Curly first hears the tapping on the window he thinks it’s his beloved Princess Chunko, aka the raccoon he’s been feeding and attempting to train for the past six months ever since Tim told him off for feeding her- the poor thing was a single mom who worked two jobs and Curly wasn’t heartless. He wasn’t about to let his girl down, ok?- and Angela said you couldn’t teach a raccoon tricks because ‘they aren’t like dogs, dumbass’. Shows what she knows. Curly’s managed to almost get Princess Chunko to shake his hand on command (she’ll do just about anything for leftover fries from McDonald’s), and she’s only bit him like, three times.
However, when he pulls back the curtain (thank god Angel’s sleeping at her new boyfriend’s place tonight because she would be beyond pissed to get woken at one in the morning) it’s not his beloved furry princess he sees, instead it’s his beautiful, very human and also male princess.
Right. He’s gotta be cool about this. Smart. Suave. Pony’s never come here so late at night before. Curly isn’t exactly at his best right now- he’d been planning to shower in the morning so he still smells like the desperation of high school and whatever boozy concoction Ma had thrown at him earlier- but he isn’t gonna like, turn Ponyboy down if he’s come here for a hookup. He’s not that stupid.
Except when he throws open the window he catches sight of the pure misery on Ponyboy’s face and all impure thoughts fly out of his head. (Ok, maybe not all of them- he’s a simple man and Ponyboy is Ponyboy and he’s also right there-  but  Curly is again not heartless so like 98% of the impure thoughts are banished. Maybe 97%.)
“Hey Ponyboy!”
Pony runs a hand through his hair. He sighs, and the sound is so tired it could give Tim a run for his money.
“Hey Curly, can I-” his eyes get shiny but he blinks hard and they’re normal again, “can I come in?”
Curly doesn’t bother answering, just grabs his best-friend-maybe-boyfriend-but we-haven’t-had-that-talk-yet-but-also-kiss-and-stuff under the arms and half drags, half lifts him through the window. Curly thanks his unlucky stars that Angel’s mattress is under the window because this was not an elegant maneuver, and Pony landed right on top of him. Like, right on top of him. Curly isn’t exactly complaining because this close he can see the freckle near Pony’s hairline and smell his toothpaste and whatever shampoo he uses, but Pony also completely knocked the wind out of him, and Curly’s is also a fifteen year old boy and attracted to Ponyboy so if Pony doesn’t move soon a different problem is going to make itself known and Curly cannot let that happen or he’ll have to jump off a bridge.
He shoves Pony off of him as gently as he can without being soft, and leads him over to his own side of the room. Angel will already be pissed enough that he was on her side of the room, nevermind the fact it was just to open the window, and Curly doesn’t want to add fuel to the fire. Sure, he loves making Angela angry but she also took a razorblade to his favourite hoodie last week and Curly isn’t willing to risk her ire right now. Things with the boyfriend she’s currently staying with are slowly but surely falling apart and Angela going through a breakup is a dangerous creature. Even Tim steers clear of her as best he can during her anger phase, and then they both decide to be a little nicer when Angel moves on to grief.
Pony sits next to him and Curly wonders if he should’ve put a bottom sheet on his mattress, then banishes the thought because it’s stupid and because he doubts there’s a bottom sheet anywhere in the house- angel bought her own and guards it viciously. Still, he can’t help the anxiety bubbling in his chest. Pony is in his room, sitting on his bed. In all the time they’ve been hanging out he doesn’t think Pony has ever been in his room. And they’ve certainly never been alone in his room- or in Ponyboy’s for that matter since Sodapop Curtis is the world's most annoying cockblock and one of these days Curly is really gonna slug him.
Fortunately- or unfortunately, he really isn’t sure- Pony seems oblivious to Curly’s internal turmoil. In fact, he seems kind of oblivious to everything, staring blankly at the wall and biting his lip hard enough it might start to bleed soon.
Rude, Curly thinks, if someone’s gonna be biting ponyboy’s lips tonight it should be him.
It’s kind of worrisome though. It;s not like Ponyboy’s the more, well, present even on a good day, prone to daydreaming and getting all focused in a way Curly doesn’t understand, but this seems different, worse somehow. The misery is still written across Ponyboy’s face, but there's an undercurrent of anger there too, and beneath that, fear.
“You good, man?” Curly’s never been great with emotions, never understood his own or wanted to help with others. He wants to help Pony now though, he just doesn’t know what to say. “You uh, you need anything?”
“No- yes- I dunno.” Ponyboy shakes his head, curling in on himself, and no, nope, if he bunches up it’s like he gets even more stuck in his own head and Curly refuses to let that happen so he yanks him until Pony’s head is resting against his shoulder, his arm around the guy’s admittedly very nice shoulders. “I didn’t know where else to go, I just- I couldn’t stay there. Not tonight. Can I stay with you?”
“Of course,” Curly agrees immediately. There’s a whole host of reasons why and he’s sure some of them are good but the only important one is the thought of Ponyboy Curtis sleeping in his room with him, “why though? Didya finally get tired of Sodacan cockblockin’ us?”
He waggles his eyebrows suggestively, expecting Ponyboy to roll his eyes but snicker like he usually does when Curly makes a suggestive joke, but instead he just sighs, his eyes getting all sad again.
“In your dreams Shepard,” he says, “but nah, it’s nothing like that, just…Darry and Soda are fighting.”
Curly blinks. That’s what Ponyboy is upset about? His family fighting? If Curly got sad anytime people were fighting in his house he’d have died of heartbreak years ago. Shit, Ma hadn’t gone a day without swearing at them in years, and Tim had told him just this morning he was a waste of space. Last month, he and Angel hadn’t spoken for over a week after she tattled on him to Tim about his plan to get into Buck’s race fixing scheme.
Then again, the Curtis family- even their gang- wasn’t much like his own. They weren’t soft exactly, but they weren’t cold neither, which was something Curly had got used to at a very young age. Ponyboy on the other hand…well, he doesn’t have much ice in him at all.
“They’ve been mad at each other for days, and tonight it’s like they just blew up,” Pony continues, “like a match in a powder keg. They’ve been yelling off and on for hours, and everytime they start to shout it gets worse. They hardly even noticed when I left.”
“Darry won’t be pleased you ran off,” curly points out. He’s not good at emotions but he is good at being practical, at least when he’s trying to think like Angela, and he knows Darry Curtis will be mad if Ponyboy comes home late or not at all. Curly thinks the guy needs to lighten up a bit. One murder wrap when Pony didn;t even kill the guy shouldn’t mean he needs to be supervised 24/7. Darry needs to lighten up.
Ponyboy rolls his eyes.
“Shit man, you sound like Two-bit. I left a note alright? And if they’re really that worried they can get over themselves and come and find me.”
“What are they arguin’ about anyway?”
That was apparently the wrong question to ask because Pony’s face shutters again.
“That’s the whole problem! I dunno! I can’t figure it out and I listened to them argue awhile. It got real personal real quick, whatever they started arguin’ about probably isn’t why they’re mad now.”
“I’m sorry man,” Curly says, and he is. Rarely is it that he feels any sort of sympathy for other people’s issues, but Ponyboy curtis is not just anyone. In fact, he’s maybe the best person Curly knows, and he doesn’t deserve his house to feel like Curly’s does. The Curtis’ are supposed to be better than that. Ponyboy is supposed to have better than that.
Curly knows there isn’t much he can do. There never is, and with his penchant for fucking shit up he’s rarely trusted with even meaningless things let alone important ones, so he’s not usually armed with the skills to help anyone. However, in this situation, Curly knows what to do because it’s something he wished for every day or his childhood, and something that was never really provided to him no matter how hard Tim sometimes tried.
Tonight, he can keep Pony safe.
“You can stay here,” he promises, scrubbing a hand through Ponyboy’s hair as an excuse to feel how soft it is without grease in it, “whenever you want. Just show up.”
“Really?”
“‘Course.”
That earns him a smile, a real one, the kind that makes Ponyboy sort of glow and Curly kind of want to kiss him and combust and jump out a window all at the same time.
“Thanks.” Pony murmurs, and Curly feels himself grin when Pony settles his head back on his shoulder, exhaustion returning.
Curly lets himself grin as he maneuvers them so that they’re squished together on his lumpy single mattress. It’s not the most comfortable position- Ponyboy is half on top of him and not in a fun way, his bony elbow jammed into Curly’s ribs, and his hair tickling his nose, but Curly wouldn't change it for the world.
Ponyboy is already gone when he wakes up the next morning, but that’s alright, Curly expected it, just like he expected the call that came when he was making breakfast and the light that has returned to Pony’s eyes when he sees him at school.
The Curtis house isn’t supposed to be like his own, and it isn’t. Ponyboy wouldn’t ever look this relaxed if it was.
Even still, Curly reasons, it can’t hurt to keep his window unlatched. Just in case.
Nightmares
Eddie Diaz x GN! Reader
Taglist | Request | Wattpad
Main Masterlist | 9-1-1 Masterlist
Summary: Nightmares have never been a good thing, especially for Eddie.
Warnings: Mentions of Death
A/N: I wrote this before the most recent episode (Shh! No spoilers), so… But if I knew I would have wrote it in. Maybe in a rewrite.
Words: 1.2k words
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was about 11 o’clock at night when I was awakened by my phone. I didn’t know who could be calling me at this hour, especially when everyone knows I have a deposition for a very big case tomorrow. I leaned over, grabbing my phone off the nightstand.
This must be important. I didn’t even think to look at who called before answering. “Hello,” I spoke into the phone, my voice still groggy from just waking up.
“Y/N? It’s dad,” I heard Christopher say through the phone. I quickly sat up after hearing his words.
“What’s wrong with your dad, Chris?” I asked in a slight panic.
“There are crashing sounds coming from his room, and-“ Christopher was cut off by a loud scream coming from somewhere in the background. “-and he keeps yelling like that. He locked his door, and I can’t get in.”
I moved out of my bed and quickly changed into some clothes. I was putting on my pants, with my phone sitting between my shoulder and ear, as I started to speak again. “Okay, Chris. I want you to go to your room and stay there. I’ll be there soon,” I said calmly.
“Okay,” I heard Chris say back, through the phone. And with that, the phone went silent, for a second before I heard a door close. I now knew Christopher was in his room, safe from whatever his father had going on. “Please hurry, Y/N.”
I grabbed my keys and left the house. “I know. I am,” I spoke, getting in my car. “I’m on my way.”I heard a slight “okay” before Chris hung up the phone.
Tumblr media
10 minutes was all it took for me to make it to the Diaz house. I quickly turned off the car and ran to the front door. Using my key, I opened their door and made my way in.
As I walked through the house, I walked past Christopher’s room, finding Christopher with his head sticking out. “Go back in your room, Chris. Let me calm your dad down, and I’ll be back to put you back to bed.” I placed a kiss on his forehead and made my way to Eddie’s door.
Before I could knock, a scream was heard from the inside, along with a loud crash. I placed my fist against the door and knocked. “Eddie?” I asked in a motherly voice. It was silent.
I tried the door, but it was locked, so I knocked again. “Eddie, open the door.” Once again it was silent. That was, until the sound of a lock unlocking was heard. I took a second before going to open the door again.
When the door opened, allowing me in, I walked into the room, and the sound of someone sobbing was heard. I maneuvered my way through the room before finding Eddie sitting against his dresser with his chest to his knees and his face rested in his arms. I walked over to Eddie, sitting down next to him.
“I’m sorry,” Eddie said through his tears.
I slowly rubbed his back to comfort him. “What happened?” I asked.
Eddie was quiet for a second before he began speaking. “You all we’re dead,” he said softly, choking on his sobs.
“Who?”
“My friends, family… you,” he mumbled. He looked up at me with tears running down his face. I suddenly felt myself begin to tear up as I listened to Eddie speak. “The most important people in my life, gone. And this isn’t the first time.”
“What do you mean?” I asked, looking at Eddie, curious by what he meant.
“I mean that before I would have dreams of losing someone, but now my dream was of everyone. We were all having dinner together when the building collapsed… I was the only one to make it out.” He paused.
I patted his back again, allowing him to let it all out. I looked at Eddie with a sad smile as he stared down at the floor. “Everyone else was gone, and there was nothing I could do,” he said a little louder.
I waited a second before saying, “Well, that was all a dream. I’m here. Chris’ in the other room. And all of your friends will be there when you get back to work. You’re not losing us.”
“Well, what if I do? What if I lose you like I lost my friends in combat?”
Now I knew what this was about. He wasn’t just having dreams about us, but about them too. The people who he fought with. The ones who had his back when he was in war. I didn’t know much about Eddie’s war life, but I knew that he found family within those people like he did me and the 118. So, I could understand why this is so hard for him.
“You won’t loose us. We will always be with you, whether it’s physically or here,” I said, pointing to Eddie’s chest, where his heart was. He sniffled, and his sobs began to slow.
“Come on. Let’s get off the floor and into the bed,” I said, helping Eddie up. We slowly moved towards the bed.
As Eddie laid down on his pillow, I began to notice something shimmering, in my peripheral vision, under the glow of his lamp. I turn and see a photo frame on the floor with broken glass surrounding it. I walked over to the broken frame, bent down, and picked it up. It was a photo of Eddie, Chris, and I at the park. The photo had a white scratch through the middle, maybe from when it fell, and the glass broke. But that didn’t stop the smile that went across my face.
“Y/N?” I heard from behind me. I turned back to Eddie. He was looking up at me with pleading brown eyes. It was almost like looking at a sad puppy. “Don’t leave,” he said. I once again gave him a sad smile before setting the photo down on the dresser and getting in the bed with him.
We laid in his bed together. I held him with his back to my chest. My arm laid across Eddie’s side and our legs were intertwined with each other’s.
A knock at the door made Eddie and I turn to find Chris standing in the door frame. “Dad, are you okay?” He asked, earning a smile from Eddie. He groans, shifting under my hold. “Yeah, Buddy. I’m okay, now.” I smile as I watch the small interaction between the two. “Can I sleep with you guys, tonight?” Chris asked. With a chuckle Eddie and I responded with an “Of course, bub.” and “Yeah. Sure you can.”
Christopher was ecstatic. He tried his best to speed walk over to the bed, and when he finally made it towards us, he got in, curling up under Eddie. I turned around so that I could lean over to turn off the light and got comfortable once more, holding Eddie in my arms. The thought of us all together made me smile. And hopefully, this makes Eddie realize that we do love him, and that we would never leave his side.
“I love you, dad,” Christopher said, sleepily.
“I love you too, bud.”
Hello!
Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to five other writers 🥰
I've been writing fanfic for a long time, so choosing only five isn't easy! I've decided not to go with my best-written or most popular fics, but rather with the five I had the most fun writing.
1. The Second Breakfast Club [LOTR] (co-authored with my sister, @lisafer)
Lord of the Rings high school AU inspired by the John Hughes film. Silly as hell, but kinda witty, too, as it echoes Tolkien's story.
2. St. Aulë's Fire [LOTR] (co-authored with my sister, @lisafer)
Legolas and Gimli have been together for over five years now, but things change when they move in together. (Sequel to Second Breakfast Club)
3. Triptych [Banana Fish]
Ash/Eiji/Shorter gets off to an angsty start in this fic, which is nestled into the canon timeline.
4. Dear Boss (A Confession) [Banana Fish]
Ash gets a letter from his lieutenant, Alex, where his subordinate confesses to having feelings for Eiji.
5. Heartache to Heartache [Banana Fish]
In Vietnam, Max Lobo discovers that his best friend Griffin is in love with him. When Griff asks Max to consider it, he does.
BONUS: Just Say Yes [Banana Fish] (work in progress)
(Extreme canon divergence/AU; 5 years after BananaFish) Eiji was never injured and continued pole vaulting all the way to the Olympics, but now he wants to be a photographer in New York and needs a green card. A fake marriage to Ash Lynx seems like a great shortcut.
you could practically smell the obnoxious scent of the outside and tobacco as you saw dallas winston walk up to your booth. he arrogantly slid himself into the red seat, the material making a crack sound from the worn down leather.
“so, what’s a shepard doin’ ‘round here?” he finally said, leaning over the table and looking you deep in the eyes.
to be fair, you weren’t very quiet, like your siblings. you often acted out because, who can compete with a gorgeous sister, a rowdy brother, and another brother who’s as tough as nails?
everybody’s eyes were usually on you, even dallas’, but whenever you caught him staring, it felt different compared to others’ eyes.
and you hated it.
“get lost, will ya? ‘m tryna enjoy my coke without some hood blowing smoke in it.” you said.
“jus’ tryna be nice” dallas murmured, stubbing out his cigarette rudely on the white table, stained with coffee and various condiments and now, a circular ash mark.
your eyes followed his every move, watching how he looked at you and twiddled his thumbs a bit when silence fell over the two of you.
“you call interruptin’ my peace ‘nice’?” you asked, narrowing your eyes at him.
his eyes darted across your face, maybe trying to spot some string of insecurity or flaw he could pull.
“‘s tim around?” he asked, looking around the diner.
“naw.”
“what about that kid, uhm.. what’s his name,” dallas snapped his fingers as his mind worked, “curly?”
your eyebrows scrunched, what did dal care if your brothers were around? maybe you should’ve said tim was around.
“curly’s in reformatory.” you blankly stated, tracing your finger around the rim of the coke bottle. you pouted as you felt the body of the bottle, feeling the liquid already starting to grow warm with how long this interaction was. “what d’you care?”
he turned his head back to you, eyes squinted and lips parted in a way where he almost looks offended that you would ask him that.
“i was going to ask for a night or so with you, we could head over to the dingo or a dandelion field or whatever you broads like. y’know, be a gentleman.”
“you could buy me another coke. ‘s already lukewarm from how long you’ve been talking outta your ass for.” you scoffed at his request.
“is that how a lady asks?” dallas snorted, already pulling out another cigarette from a hidden carton in his jacket.
“is that how a gentleman talks to a lady?”
he looked at you. you weren’t a pushover, he had to give you credit for that. he tapped his cigarette while his eyebrow cocked upwards, asking for a light. you simply tapped your bottle on return, silently telling him that if he were to get a light, he’d have to buy you a soda first.
he sighed, pulling the cigarette out of his mouth and craning his neck to look behind him at the fearful two old ladies who had been staring at you both the entire time, probably to ensure that you didn’t vandalize the place or hold any customers at gunpoint or steal candy from any babies.
he looked back in your direction so he could snatch the bottle, earning a small ‘hey!’ from you and waving it at the lady, asking for another drink.
“there. y’happy?”
you shrugged and slid out of the booth, grabbing your bag and walking towards the exit of the diner.
dallas just looked back at you, not even sparing another glance at him. did he find you hot? yeah, very much. but did you also get under his skin? of course.
the only thing that could kill dallas winston is you.
Romeo & Juliet [Part 2]
Tumblr media
Pairing: Jacob Black x OC!Swan
Word Count: 1616
Part 1 Part 3, Part 4
Author's Note I changed a few things to better fit the story. Jacob will be a year younger than Bella. Bella's friends are semi-different than how they are portrayed in the books/movies. Sam and Leah were never in a relationship. Imprinting on children is not a thing. Hope you enjoy the story and sorry it took so long to write the second part of this.
Sloan and her sister used to be best friends. They were two peas in a pod, but ever since the move to Forks, her strange fascination with the Cullen boy, and the start of her relationship with Edward, their relationship has dwindled.
Bella became more distant and secretive. Sloan understood that a relationship meant change and less time for the two of them, but she didn’t think the relationship would take priority over everything. Bella was in love, that was certain, but she left no time for friends or family. Edward was her world. There was no place for anyone else. Not their dad, their mother, Sloan, or even herself.
Sloan did miss the relationship they used to have. Tranquil car rides to school, mindless arguments over their favorite classic literature, and the late-night talks they used to have. Sloan never realized how meaningful those things used to be until they were gone. It all went away as soon as Edward came into their lives.
Their eighteenth birthday came and went, and Bella was more frantic than ever. The reason? Sloan had no clue. Sloan didn’t know much about Bella these days. She does know Bella was quiet after her birthday party at the Cullen’s house. Something happened, and whatever it was rocked Bella. The days that followed were marked by an absence of the Cullen family, and it barely went unnoticed by everyone except Bella. Bella felt lost without them, but most importantly Edward. Unfortunately for Sloan and her father, they would both come to realize the extent of Bella’s dependence of the Cullens.
Sloan tried to be empathetic towards her sister. She had never been through a breakup herself, but normal heartache does not leave a person lifeless and empty. She had imagined how their first heartbreak would entail, watching sappy romance movies and eating ridiculous amounts of ice cream, it was nothing like this. She had never imagined a boy would leave her sister like a lifeless doll.
Bella would mindlessly stare out her window, day in and day out, as if waiting for Edward to save her from her isolation. It was a lost cause, however, as he and his family moved away and Bella was left with the memories of what once was.
Every night in the Swan’s residence is plagued with the screams of her sister. A good night’s rest was a luxury now and both Sloan and her father felt the effects of the lack of sleep.
“Bella.” Sloan began as she found her sister in the same place as when she left her. “Do you want to go hang out with our friends? We’re going to La Push again. They miss you.” Bella had completely shut down after the breakup. She resembled a lifeless doll waiting for a child to find it and play with it. She spent her days waiting for Edward to come back.
“I miss him.” Her voice was barely a croak. Her lips bleeding slightly as she had not drank the water Sloan had left on her desk.
Sloan sighed. Edward was not worth this. “This isn’t normal, Bella. You need help.” She’ll need to bring up therapy to her father. Bella couldn’t keep living this this. Maybe a change a scenery would be helpful as well.
“I need him.”
“No you don’t.” Bella liked to believe in soulmates. It was a frequent topic of arguments between the two. She believes there is one person for everyone and finding that person is magical and sacred. Sloan should’ve known that Bella would’ve considered Edward as hers.
Sloan didn’t believe in soulmates. The idea that out of thousands of people there is only one that is just right. That seems implausible. “Are you sure you don’t want to go?” Bella stayed silent. Sloan walked out of Bella’s room silently, closing the door on her way out.
“How’s Bella?” Mike asked as they unloaded the cooler filled with refreshments. Eric and Jessica went ahead and found a respectable spot, while Angela went to snap a few pictures of the ocean waves.
“Not good.” Sloan mentions. “I don’t think staying in Forks is helping either. Maybe there’s too many memories of him.”
“He really messed her up, didn’t he?” Mike has never seen anyone take a breakup as hard as Bella. He had seen tears split over the loss of a relationship or an occasional screaming match between old lovers, but never something like that.
It made him reevaluate the relationship between Bella and Edward. They were too attached. Too obsessed with each other.
He remembered a conversation he’d had with Bella when her newfound relationship became public. He warned her about the way Edward watched her, as if he were a lion eyeing his prey. It may have come off as disdain. He had liked Bella before Edward dug his claws into her, and maybe the disdain part was true to some extent, but Bella had to know the way Edward stalked her when she wasn’t looking. If only he had voiced his observations more.
Sloan nodded. She really needed to have a conversation with her father. Bella needs help that they are not qualified to give. Mike and Sloan went silent as they carried the cooler to the beach. Jessica and Eric had placed the inflatable pools in a half circle. All three of the inflatable pools were heart-shaped. Angela thought it would be a better idea than bringing a beach blanket.
They watched the waves crash onto the beach as they spoke about their aspirations for the future. High school was coming to an end. Much faster than any of them had anticipated. There was a whole world outside of their small town. Were they ready? Were they prepared? They had no clue, but they’ll take it one step at a time.
The group of friends didn’t see the sulking boy wander closer towards them. The conversation ended abruptly as a familiar name was called out: “Sloan?”
They all turned to the boy. “Jacob?” Sloan hadn’t spoken to Jacob since he and his father came to watch the game with her dad. They were both busy with friends and school. They hadn’t found time for each other. “Are you okay?”
“Not really.” He stuffed his hands in the pockets of his shorts.
“Do you want to join?” Sloan offered, “We were just about to crack open a few soda cans and talk about our deepest, darkest secrets.”
The others laughed, and even Jacob cracked a smile. “I don’t want to impose.”
“Not imposing if you’re invited.” Mike chimed in.
“Come on.” Sloan motioned for Jacob to join her. “We brought extra, and it would be rude if you didn’t help us finish our snacks.”
Jacob joined her awkwardly, snacking on the chocolate-covered strawberry Sloan offered him.
“We were just talking about summer plans. Do you have anything planned yet?” Summer was months away, and their graduation was on the horizon. They wanted to do something memorable and fun.
“Not yet.” He admitted. He would probably do the same things as always. Hang out with Embry and Quil, and take care of his father.
“We were thinking about planning a road trip after graduation.” Angela said, “Would you like to join? We wouldn’t want Sloan to be the fifth wheel.”
Jacob was taken aback by the invitation. They didn’t know him on a personal level, and yet they were so kind to him. It might’ve had something to do with him being friends with Sloan.
“Yeah, you should come, man.” Eric said.
“It’ll be fun.” Jessica replied.
Jacob didn’t know what to say. “I don’t know. Maybe?” He needed time to think.
“When we come up with a game plan, we’ll let you know, and then you can decide.” Sloan placed her hand on his shoulder. “There’s no rush.”
Jacob nodded before the conversation shifted once again. Sloan’s friends were nice. They made him feel welcomed. They included him in their conversations, even when he had little to say.
As the day turned to night, the group of friends plus one started packing their things. “See you at school, Sloan.” Jessica waved goodbye as she entered Mike’s car. “It was nice meeting you, Jacob.”
Jacob nodded. “You too.”
“Let me know when you make it back home, Sloan.” Mike said.
“I will.” She replied as she and Jacob entered her car. They watched as her friends drove off.
“Do you want to talk about it?” She interjected.
Jacob began, “I have this friend—well, I had a friend—Sam, and he disappeared for a while. He didn’t tell anyone where he was going. He didn’t call anyone to tell us if he was okay. He came back today, and it was like he was a complete stranger. I could barely recognize him.”
“We’ve known each other all our lives, and he changed so suddenly. He said it would be best if we weren’t friends anymore. That it was 'safer' for me to stay away. What does that mean? Is he in trouble? I want to be there for him. Why doesn’t he want me to be there for him?”
“Jacob,” Sloan said, reaching for his hand and gently rubbing it. “Sometimes people want to get through their problems alone. It has nothing to do with you, but more with him. Maybe he feels like a burden and doesn’t want to pile his problems on you. Maybe he needs to take some time for himself—find himself. Maybe one day he’ll explain everything once the dust settles.”
“I just want to be there for my friend.” He says, “I never thought we would go on without each other.”
