Viktor was dying. At no point did I read shame in what he felt towards his own body. It was frustration. He was dying. He wasn't trying to rid himself of something embarrassing; he was trying to survive. I feel like Jayce's line highlights the fundamental disconnect between Piltover and Zaun.

Zaunites aren't fighting for a better life because they're ashamed. They want to make it to tomorrow. That's all Viktor wanted. To not have his life cut short by his illness, to go on another day so he could continue his research, to keep living. But he was met with pity and shrugs, so he took matters into his own hands. Jayce might've loved Viktor flaws and all, but actively dying is not a flaw. Being sick is not a flaw. Being in pain every single day is not a flaw. You can admire Viktor for working through it all, for the strength of his character, for his grit and determination in the face of adversity.

But he was broken.

His body was betraying him and Jayce would've lost him a lot sooner had Viktor just shrugged like everyone else did. He didn't have time to be ashamed of his disability. And he never was...

He was dying.

What are your thoughts on Hirsch?

i do genuinely respect him a lot (the fact that a bunch of the show was improvised is both horrifying and kinda amazing, standout examples being ford himself being written on the fly and also the last mabelcorn being written in a day) and love that he's insistent on the importance of found family and platonic affection, and that he's furious when people devalue family relationships if they're not directly blood related

but also a bunch of his ford takes are pretty iffy (even if he's gotten somewhat better about him recently) and he's pretty "two steps forwards, a bunch of shuffles back" about treating the abusive relationships he writes cos it was like "oh he's talking about it normally for the panels--" and then that charity stream was basically a cannonball to any goodwill he built up

also god damn he's bad with writing romance and picking side ships in general (tad/woodpecker guy is the most 'picked random names outta a hat' shit), especially when he's fully aware that it gets fans sidetracked from the main points he's trying to make with the series

Jumping off my other post, I will admit that the whole "Izuku forgot about the river" is something that seemingly came out of nowhere for me.

I never understood it.

I get that we haven't seen him talking about it, but how is it acknowledged that Izuku is an "unreliable narrator" and he doesn't talk about all of his feelings... but then when he doesn't mention the time at the river, he has forgotten about it?

He doesn't mention some things, but that doesn't translate to he forgotten anything.

It's like not mentioning your favorite color all the time and people assume you don't have one or you don't like that color anymore.

In fact, episode 7/chapter 9 alone proves Izuku doesn't forget anything, especially from their past. That episode has him narrate their childhood except for when we get to the river scene, but that was because to show Katsuki's POV on that day and why he started to resent Izuku.

It's not that Izuku forgot that day. It's just he saw it differently from how Katsuki did.

While Izuku saw he was helping out a friend, Katsuki saw it as someone thinking he was weak.

I don't know, I just never got the thing about forgetting the river when Izuku clearly is the last person to forget anything. Especially, when it comes to Katsuki.

It's just emphasized a lot with Katsuki because it was the day he begun really resenting Izuku and soon later regrets it.

It's definitely just a fanon thing. And just me, but some of the things the fandom does agree on when it comes to Izuku, I don't get.
