trans people do not need to pass as cis before their identity/gender is taken seriously. sure, it’s great for some to be told that they pass, as it can feel amazing to be told you are seen the way you identify but that isn’t the case for all. some may prefer to be seen more feminine/masculine (just like cis people do) and that’s okay!! they should still be respected!! it’s the same for nonbinary folk and anyone that doesn’t fit as ‘man’ or ‘woman’, they don’t have to look androgynous or the way you expect them to.

PSA for feminine peeps (regardless of gender ID)
hey look at me. look at me directly in the eyes (or if you hate eye contact pick up a stim toy to focus). you do not have to have any "masculine" traits, not one, to be cool or redeemable or worth anyone's time. you can be the sensitive, weak one who loves animals and wears their emotions on their sleeves and dresses femininely and likes sewing and baking and sweets and the color pink and only girly movies and music; you can want to have or be around kids, you can be a family or romance oriented person, you can giggle and snort laugh over every little thing and cry over every other little thing, WITHOUT ANYTHING TO "BALANCE IT OUT" OR WHATEVER. you don't have to make up for it. what i'm saying here is that when people go "oh this person is weak and stupid because they can't fight or be strong", "this person is a baby they cry too much and just want everyone to be friends how stupid", "this person is shallow because they only care about romance", or whatever, and say they need masculine traits to make them a "real"/"interesting" person or character, they're being jerks. You have merit and you matter and your interests matter. You're not shallow. Being yourself isn't shallow. Loving what you love isn't shallow.
if you have masculine traits too, that's great!!! if you like masc stuff organically, that's pog!!! But if you aren't like that, don't force it!!! You are still a rounded person and your dreams and hopes and self expression are still beautiful and nuanced and worthy!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the barbie (2023) experience as an afab non binary person is just [reconnecting with your femininity and love for pink bc you couldnt when u were younger bc being too girly will get u made fun of] [feeling guilt bc u dont identify with being a girl but girlhood is so inherently beautiful and magical and no experience is truly like it] [healing the inner child in you by allowing yourself to enjoy dolls and pink and maximalism] [unapologetically letting yourself wear pink and be stereotypically girly in a society where being non binary means you have to be presenting androgynous 24/7] [getting your grown-up heart shattered and then put back together again by your inner child using sparkly glue over and over in the span of two hours] [realizing that no matter what you do you have somewhat experienced girlhood and it shaped you to be the person you are today and you will never get to erase that experience or truly disconnect yourself from it] [appreciating and understanding your mother in a way that you thought wasnt possible without experiecing motherhood]

right so i need u lot to know that when i write crowley as a woman-shaped being it’s not because i’m heterosexualifying her relationship with aziraphale, it’s because
1. she’s the trans character of all time
2. it’s really interesting and fun to write a character with a different gender presentation to their usual one. opens up different possibilities for their character oftentimes
3.there’s enough people writing them both as man-shaped beings, mostly with dicks, so why not mix it up a bit?
i have specific plans to write fem!az and man-shaped crowley and fem!az and fem!crowley together when i’ve got the time for it too so watch this space

what makes Cinder such a compelling 2012 not-like-other-girls protagonist is that she is surrounded by Other Girls, and she loves them. Iko and Peony are the most stereotypical teenage girls obsessed with pretty clothes and boys and pop culture and she would die for either of them in a heartbeat. Iko rolls in with makeup smeared all over her plastic face and Cinder is like "ayy girl slay!". she knows that she is JUST like other girls in all the ways that matter.

I'm very happy that Eddie in Deadloch is straight (so far, that we know). It seems that straight women can't be butch, it seems that it is the domain of lesbians and that no man would ever be attracted to a masculine straight woman.
And then, when a straight woman cuts her hair and wears jeans and shirts, people tell her things like "you look good with that lesbian hairstyle" or "your mom looks a bit like a lesbian".
It is impossible for a cis straight woman to be butch. It is not desireable, it is not conceivable. If they are cis and straight, why would they be butch?
Cis straight women can wear trousers, and have short hair, they can wear sports bra, but they should always keep it femme somehow, ideally by not wearing it all at the same time or by behaving in a feminine way. They should always look to please the straight men around her in whatever form they (the men) find desireable.
Straight men shouldn't like butch women, what are they? Sissies? Who will rule that house if the woman looks like that?
So I'm very happy that Eddie chose a masculine name for herself, that she chose a masculine self-expression and that she likes men. It's a rare representation. As such, people assume she is a lesbian (even the lesbians). And when it has been proven she's not, it is confusing, as Vanessa pointed out: "you are not anything".
Indeed, what is a butch straight woman?

but fr outside of my contracted madness i absolutely refuse to give joe alwyn gold rush like how is that song at all related to their relationship the lyrics clearly spell out a relationship that either never existed or only existed in implication and fantasies and maybe-maybe nots and its so bitter and yet desperately soft in the bridge where it almost projects a sense of envy, of wanting to be them as much as you want them. It continues an interesting oft ignored lyrical trend of taylor wanting just as much to be her lover as to have them, envying their easy charisma (you were flush with the currency of cool/i was always turning out my pockets) or quiet dignity (your integrity makes me seem small) dating back to her earliest songs (the kind of flawless i wish i could be). Theres a projected self hatred and yearning to be better that twists itself into both romantic and sexual lust for her partners thats so fascinating and speaks to how all of her songs regardless of who theyre about are also an act of self reflection on who she is and who she wishes to be.
#barry.txt#taylor swift#putting this in the tags as a form of self protection but make no mistake this is a gay thing to do especially in gold rush#which through simple context clues is Obviously About A Woman or maybe even women in general#whivh is a totally seperate post on how taylor constructs and uses gender identity in her music#her girlhood and femininity are earnest but also so carefully constructed and so high effort and kind of desperate#shes a deeply self concious and obsessive person who never looks comfortable in anything ever unless shes#onstage or like. by herself in loose jeans and a tshirt#i think thats one of the things that subconsciously irritate ppl when it comes to her shes constantly and clearly putting in effort#to appear As The Celebrity Taylor Swift and struggles not to self censor or overperform in interviews (when she gives them)#especially present in pre 1989 interviews where the interviewers really didnt have to respect her or worry abt how they frame her#if they didnt want to. Like the fearless era rolling stone interview where she almost has a meltdown over her mom buying eggnog instead of#milk. That whole interview is strange looking back not just bc of the weird misogyny but also because of what it does share#taylor is....weird. She has a strange and desperate vibe and always reacts slightly too much and uses slang poorly#shes media trained and has learned how to socialize but you can feel her discomfort whenever she doesnt have a guitar in her hand#idk these tags have once again gotten so unweildy. i just find it interesting that she finally feels some level of comfortable#in sharing that construction w us in songs like mirrorball and mastermind and imo gold rush#and scene#should i write this up and put it in the swiftieism zine#i should write something and put it in the swiftieism zine
