The medieval era was one that adhered to formal styles, even in hairstyles. Long-grown hair on men was seen as a symbol of great dominance, power and fertility. Headwear was an intrinsic part of medieval fashion, used to signify social status. CC links under the cut.

8: ZODIAC CONSTELLATIONS The ancient Greek Zodiakos, or Zodiac, is a division of the celestial sphere into twelve equal parts; each one containing a specific group of stars with a mythic association called a constellation. Ancient Greeks used the constellations for sailing navigation, time keeping for seasonal agricultural practices like planting and harvesting crops, mythic storytelling purposes, and astrology practices. Hellenistic Astrology, taking influence from the Babylonians and Egyptians, sought meaning in the zodiac signs and how they influenced a person’s character based on the position of the sun when they were born. They also used this practice for divination, providing guidance and predictions for the future. Let’s take a look at the twelve Zodiac constellations and their mythic tales. 1.) Aries (March 21-April 19) represents the flying golden ram sent by the gods to save the royal children Phrixus and Helle from sacrifice, and whose fleece later becomes the quested prize for the Argonauts. 2.) Taurus (April 20-May 20) represents the bull which Zeus transformed into to seduce Europa, and is linked to the Cretan Bull and the myth of the Minotaur. 3.) Gemini (May 21-June 21) represents the twins Castor and Pollux, sons of Zeus and Leda, known for their inseparable bond and heroic deeds. 4.) Cancer (June 22- July 22) represents the crab sent by Hera to distract Hercules during his battle with the Hydra, later placed in the sky by Hera as a constellation. 5.) Leo (July 23- Aug. 22) represents the lion, representing strength and kingship, associated with the Nemean Lion defeated by Hercules. 6.) Virgo (Aug 23- Sept 22) represents the maiden, often linked to the goddess of agriculture and fertility, such as Demeter or Persephone. 7.) Libra (Sept 23- Oct 23) represents goddess of justice Astraea, daughter of Themis, who carries the scales of justice. 8.) Scorpio (Oct 24- Nov 21) represents the scorpion sent by Artemis or Gaia to kill Orion 9.) Sagittarius (Nov 22- Dec 21) represents the centaur archer, often identified as the wise and skilled Chiron. 10.) Capricorn (Dec 22- Jan 19) represents the sea goat Aegipan, who aided Zeus in his fight against Typhon. 11.) Aquarius (Jan 20- Feb 18) represents the cupbearer of the gods, Ganymede, who was abducted by Zeus and placed among the stars. 12.) Pisces (Feb 19- March 20) represents the two fish, Aphrodite and Eros, who transformed to escape the monster Typhon.

web of wyrd: the outer numbers and their potential meaning for your year ahead
tw: mentions of death/suicide
the outer rim of the wyrd web foretells the themes of our year ahead. today i will be covering some basic topics that people tend to wonder about the future - that being said, these are basic premises; in no way does one number mean a single thing. each number can mean different things - multiple things. your lack of a number correlated with an experience below does not mean to minimize your experience with the topics (e.g., you had a child but don't have the number, you lost someone important to you but don't have the number, etc.) these are simply my observations (also observations are not destined to be true, they are simply possibilities / increased odds).
Tumblr media
indicators that are important for love/relationships
5 (the institution of marriage -> getting married)
6 (meeting an important life partner)
13 (double edged sword looking at the death card - signifies change in relationship status OR it could be a new beginning in a relationship)
19 (renewing vow for preexisting love)
21 (a new phase in a relationship)
22 (a new beginning in the relationship)
indicators of having a child
1 (connecting a new spirit with the physical realm)
2 (a symbol of fertility)
3 (another symbol of fertility)
8 (the flower chain - an umbilical cord - connects two beings)
10 (again connecting a new spirit with the physical realm)
12 (the hanged man is sort of in cephalic presentation, which is the position babies are born in for most vaginal births)
14 (a promising sign for people who struggle with fertility)
19 (it's literally a kid on a pony on this card lol)
21 (the completion of a cycle - full 9 months of pregnancy might even have a late birth compared to due date)
22 (a new adventure - parenthood - begins)
indicators of career change
1 (good for starting your own business)
4 (stepping into a leadership role)
5 (moving up the ladder in your career OR going back to school to study)
6 (having beneficial coworker / business partner OR doing what you love)
10 (new job opportunities OR getting a raise or big bonus)
13 (a big change in what you previously were doing)
16 (changing career path completely and finding a new way of earning money that you pervious hadn't explored)
17 (finding a new job after struggling for a long time to find one)
21 (getting a raise)
indicators of loss
2 (the end of a life cycle and seeing the reality of change/time)
9 (the image of age)
10 (the end / a shift in a life cycle)
12 (peaceful but unexpected loss - this is not always a suicide indicator)
13 (the death of a beloved relative - you'll probably struggle with their death/passing)
16 (a sudden/tragic death)
20 (peaceful and expected loss - typically sick/elderly individuals in your life)
21 (the end of a life cycle)
indicators of moving/traveling
1 (the magician has all his stuff laid out in front of him - he is packing or unpacking)
7 (could indicate a moving truck OR travel in general)
9 (moving out on your own OR going on a long term trip)
13 (leaving a home you've lived in for a long time OR taking a life changing trip)
19 (going somewhere you never have been before)
21 (again going somewhere you have never been before OR moving after living somewhere a long time)
22 (moving somewhere far away OR going on a trip with short (spontaneous trip) notice)

A/N :Okay, I think you've been waiting for this one! Hopefully it’ll take my mind of the fact that we were all simping for a person that takes the cringeat nudes
* This is bad
* This is really, really bad
* You watch Ares — Kronos now— in full possession of his body, two inky black voids staring back at you, mouth quirked up in a sadistic grin.
* Your hand tightens around your scepter, eyes flicking to Annabeth, Percy and Grover
* ‘Right now the priority is protecting the children.’
* You tap the ground twice, concentrating on space and time itself wrapping around you ementating a force field, you watch the familiar purple hue begin to take shape, electricity whirring, but before it can reach its crescendo, Kronos waves it’s hand and immediately the field disappears.
* ‘What?’
* “You dare use my own powers against me child?”
* Of course, Kronos was the titan of space and time, your powers won’t work on him.
* And your despair…is nothing compared to what he’s endured, to be cut into tiny pieces at the hands of your own children.
* ‘Hades.’
* But before you can kneel you’re pushed into the ocean, off of your home turf, and ankle deep into unfamiliar land.
* “And there will be no hitting the ground thrice, this is between you and I godling.” He hisses, roaming over you with a keen eye. “You’re just a godling, but I can smell it—the powers of fertility course through your veins.” He licks his lip, as if he’s already imagining devouring you whole.
* ‘What can I do in this situation? Annabeth? No, she’s only got that knife, Grover? No, he only has tin cans and they’re all gone anyway, Percy—‘
* Yes, Percy is the right option. He has a good weapon, and he’s talented too, the sea is his home turf and in the original he beat Ares.
* ‘But even so he’s no match for Kronos.’
* He’s only a twelve year old boy, he needs more time to develop into a hero.
* ‘But I can give him power.’
* A fertility god can grant someone the right to tap into their power, a near limitless supply. You could give that to Percy-
* “Why should you sacrifice yourself for someone else?” A voice whispers in your ear, snapping you out of your thoughts.
* Goosebumps rise down your spine and along your arms.
* “And why should you run from battle?” Another voice calls, you recognize this voice.
* ‘It’s Persephone's voice.’
* “Look at him child, look how he trembles. He needs you, to stay in that body, he’s still not strong enough to inhabit a god’s body while his soul is in Tartarus.” She whispers.
* And sure enough, Kronos is heaving, he has a cocky expression on his face, but you can see the strain across his face.
* ‘He can’t keep this up for much longer.’
* “Descendant of the gods, close your eyes and borrow our power.”
* ‘Well I’m screwed either way.’
* You close your eyes, and for a moment there’s total darkness, and then all at once four eyes open in front of you.
* Green. Purple. Gold. Pink. And Red.
* Staring at you as if appraising you on a pedestal, and then there’s a sound.
* It feels like the howl of wind, the sound of a box unlocking, and the sound of a bird chirping.
* You open your eyes, your body encased in a blue sheen.
* “Aren’t you tired of bending to the will of the gods little godling?”
* ‘I’m tired of you disrupting my sleep for three years.’
* You feel flowers grow out of your skin, encasing your arm, but it doesn’t hurt.
* “Don’t you want your revenge—“
* You raise your hand, the ground beneath him automatically raising as well, as large as any cliff.
* “—you could join me—“
* ‘First he was going to swallow me whole, and now it’s that I can join him huh?’
* You swipe your hand to the side, opening dozens of portals, a bright blue light leaves your scepter traveling through the portals and striking Kronos.
* “—we could rule Olympus together—‘
* ‘The jerk is still talking.’
* You twirl your scepter, transforming it into a bow and arrow.
* “—you will regret this!”
* “Shut the hell up!” The words leave your mouth like a siren’s screech, ichor curling out of his ear as he winces.
* You aim your arrow for his heart and shoot.
* The arrow becomes engulfed in blue light, like a blazing inferno, like—
* ‘It looks like hell fire.’
* There’s a scream and you avert your eyes as Kronos reveals his true form, when he’s gone Ares is left behind.
* Simultaneously whatever power you felt rush into your veins is now gone, leaving a very sore, fourteen year old behind.
* You wade through the water, holding a bleeding and fatigued Ares in your arms.
* “Wh-where am I?” A cough rips through him and you shush him.
* “It’s fine, I’m here now.” Golden light emanates from your hands, and you watch his wounds begin to close.
* “Well who would have thought.” He mumbles to himself.
* “So are you free later tonight?”
* “I’m fourteen you freak.” He gives you a toothy grin.
* “Give me a call in ten years then?”
* Before you can ask if he can get the hell out of here and to Olympus he’s gone in a crack of thunder. Disintegrated to dust before reorganizing into golden light.
* That looks familiar.
* You turn to them, to the two shocked children and the satyr who are staring at you with slack jaws.
* They want answers.
* ‘Well damn, me too. What the hell was that?’
* Before you can organize a single thought, you’re surrounded by policeman.
* ‘Well shit.’

Tumblr media
The Theme 🎁
The 49th Wedding Anniversary comes soon before the huge milestone of the 50 years together, and it's usually represented by various symbols that I added to the prompts: Zircon, Orchids, the color Purple, and luxurious gifts. The main theme of this year's event is GIFTS, the act of giving the partner something material or abstract as an act of selflessness, that can have various meanings and various reactions.
Like all the prompts, it’s up to you to follow the theme or not, consider it just as a general theme that you could build your entries around. I chose some prompts that might fit this theme, that are about gifts as physical objects or as ideas for situations or alternative worldbuildings.
How? 🖼
You're encouraged to join with your preferred creative media or challenge yourself with something new! Fanfictions, drawings, comics, poetry, collages and photo edits, moodboards, anything you like! More in the RULES below.
Like all Ship Weeks, this is a fandom event to share love and creativity related to a particular couple, so be sure to engage with the entries and support all the artists and writers that chose to join! Reblog, leave likes/kudos and comment on the artworks to keep the fandom alive! 💜💖💕💜💖💕
Tumblr media
Day 1 • 18 January (Anniversary!)
Flowers: Orchids are symbols of love, beauty, refinement, fertility, strength and resilience, and mature charm.
Surprise gift!
Handmade by the other
Young, poor and happy together
"I've got a loving wife and a couple of kids at home, that'll do me!"
Day 2 • 19 January
The color: Purple can evoke spirituality, mystery, royalty, imagination, compassion, fantasy, wisdom, creativity and sensitivity.
A kinky gift 😏
Concert tickets
Radio interview
“When you love something, you protect it with your entire life. Right now, my guts tell me to do the same.”
Day 3 • 20 January
Gemstone: Zircon zircon is a talisman of travelers. They count on it to lead to a shelter and show the right way. Plus, it is able to protect from injuries. Women used the gem to ease childbirth, drive away evil spirits, enhance health, get wisdom, and attract good luck.

Torn between options
Dreaming and daydreaming
"You remembered something I’d mentioned a million years ago!"
Day 4 • 21 January

🔥 TAG your work APPROPRIATELY! This includes all potential triggers and smut. On Tumblr you can include the appropriate warnings at the top of the fic followed by a "keep reading” cut (you can add it in desktop version AND on mobile by writing :readmore: in a new line!) Also be sure to tag the rating of your fic, the genre and the themes of your story, enough to help the readers!
✨ If you’re still unsure, HERE’s a useful guide on how to tag your works!
Tumblr media
As a reader... 📖
If you’re a fan of John, of Johnica or simply like to read fanfictions, positive interactions are always much welcomed! Support the authors by leaving likes, a comment (even a little one!) and sharing their work. On AO3 you don’t need an account to leave Kudos and Comments! (Unless the author has willingly prevented guests to comment). To leave a comment on AO3 you simply have to choose a temporary mail and set your email to get a notification for an eventual reply.
If a work is not tagged appropriately, you can reach out to me via DM and I’ll warn the author. If anything makes you uncomfortable, simply close the work! Do not engage by leaving nasty comments or messaging the author!
🔥 IMPORTANT!!! 🔥
During the event, if any of you/your entries gets hateful comments or messages towards you, your entries, the Johnica ship, the event or other creators, please DELETE the hateful comment/message right away with no interactions and let me know! This is no place for haters, just for creativity and love. If you see a hateful comment on other works do not engage, instead leave a positive comment to the same work and support the author! 💜
Realistic or not, remember that fanfictions are, by definition, FICTIONAL and not meant to be a documentary! There are lots of things we don’t know about John and Veronica’s private lives and don’t want to go in too deeply, gossip or speculate about them, so feel free to fly with your fantasy and let your creativity flow! 😊💖 Most of all… have fun, respect each other and support each other’s works!

Phaerimm
Tumblr media
Image © Jake Probelski
[Sponsored by @coldbloodassassin. The phaerimm are theoretically one of the foundationally important monsters in the Forgotten Realms setting, being tied closely to the Netherese, the sharn and other bits of lore. But they always struck me as kind of boring. They're yet another magically gifted aberration that views humanoids as slaves and cattle. And their stats seem to get more pared down and less interesting with every edition. I went back to their first mechanical appearance in AD&D 2e for inspiration.]
Phaerimm CR 12 NE Aberration This creature floats in the air, looking something like a flying sea anemone. It has a circular maw with eyes dotting its rim, four arms with clawed hands, and its body tapers into a long tail, ending in a stinger.
The phaerimm are strange aberrant creatures native to a deadly desert world in another galaxy. Phaerimm have not mastered planetary travel, and are found on other worlds typically as the descendants of captives and experimental test subjects enslaved by wizards looking for alternatives to celestials and fiends. It may be that the phaerimm sowed the seeds of their own calling, as they can be summoned through magic much more easily than other aberrant creatures. Most of these itinerant phaerimm are interested in converting other planets into worlds more like their own, and seek powerful magic items and ritual spells in order to drain the vitality from ecosystems and render them deserts.
Even a newly born phaerimm is a powerful magic user, and they use their spells preferentially over their formidable physical talents. Phaerimm are spontaneous casters, but can convert some of their spells into spell-like abilities to make them easier to cast and harder to counterspell. The vast majority of phaerimm are sadists, which can be used against them; a phaerimm will often make suboptimal tactical choices if it has an opportunity to spread more pain. Phaerimm are slavers, and view enslaved or magically controlled minions as utterly disposable.
The phaerimm are simultaneous hermaphrodites, able to both fertilize the eggs of other phaerimm and be fertilized in turn. Phaerimm courtship is more akin to a business exchange than anything romantic, and the eggs are kept in suspended animation until they can be inserted into a host—mammalian creatures are preferred, but anything living of Small or larger size can provide sufficient nutrients for the parasitoid embryo. Phaerimm keep their incubators secure, stocking their lairs with galleries of floating, insensate victims, each one growing a new horror inside.
An adult phaerimm is about twelve feet in length and weighs six hundred pounds. They fly magically, and are practically immobile in an antimagic field or similar effect.

Callable (Ex) A phaerimm is treated as an extraplanar outsider for the purposes of calling spells like planar binding. Flight (Su) A phaerimm’s fly speed is supernatural in nature. Implant (Ex) As a full round action, a phaerimm can lay an egg in a paralyzed or helpless target. The egg gestates for one week, whereupon a young phaerimm bursts from the host, killing it. While implanted with an egg, a host is unaffected until the final 24 hours of incubation, during which time it is treated as suffering a -10 penalty to all ability scores (minimum 1). A successful remove disease or similar effect against DC 23 removes the pellet, as does a successful DC 25 Heal check performed over the course of 10 minutes. Regardless of whether the Heal check succeeds or fails, it deals 1d4 damage to the host. Paralysis (Su) A creature stung by a phaerimm must succeed a DC 24 Fortitude save or be paralyzed for one minute. After this duration elapses, the creature must succeed a second DC 24 Fortitude save or be paralyzed for 1 week. While paralyzed, the afflicted creature floats five feet off the ground. Prepare Spell-like Ability (Su) When a phaerimm regains its spells, it may choose to prepare one of its known spells of each level above 0th as a spell-like ability with a caster level equal to its Hit Dice. 1st and 2nd level spells may be used 3/day as a spell-like ability, and spells of 3rd level or higher may be used 1/day. Spells A phaerimm can cast spells as an 11th level sorcerer. A phaerimm does not gain other sorcerer class abilities, such as a bloodline, unless it takes levels in sorcerer.

Some context for the 1890s
I thought it might be fun to look into the period when Dracula was written and set in a little more detail.
Key facts
In 1897, the population of the UK was just under 40m - so about 60% of what it is today. (By contrast the US population at the time was just 21% of what it is today). Only about 6m of them had the right to vote - about 40% of adult men.
With a population of 6m, London was the largest city in the world and would be for another 20 years.
Tumblr media
Politics and imperialism
The British Empire wasn't yet at its peak, which would be at some point between 1913 and 1922 depending on whether you define it by land or population. This was the time of the Scramble for Africa - in the 1890s alone, Britain colonised the countries that are now Uganda, Zanzibar, Malawi, Botswana, Zimbabwe, parts of Sudan and parts of South Africa. (Ish - matching 1890s borders to modern ones is tricky).
All the same, the sense of effortless British dominance was fading, because countries like Germany, France and the USA were starting to catch up. In 1896, the book 'Made in Germany' by Ernest Edwin Williams was a bestseller, bemoaning that cheaper German goods were crowding out British ones in shops. (It's available for free online; just google it if you're interested.) Here's 1890s Berlin:
Tumblr media
Britain was only just emerging from what the Victorians called "The Great Depression" from the 1870s to early 1890s. The wealthiest and most powerful country in the world didn't always feel that way to the people living in it.
Alongside anxieties about Britain's place in the world, the other major political topic which dominated the 1890s was the question of Irish Home Rule - essentially whether Ireland should be allowed its own parliament and responsibility for domestic affairs while still remaining part of the UK. The Second Home Rule Bill passed the Commons in 1893 but was defeated in the Lords. Here's 1890s Dublin:
Tumblr media
Society
Less than a percentage of the British population would have been people of colour. The 1921 census showed just 75,000 people born in India - 1897 wouldn't have been much different. All the same, the University of Oxford - i.e. one of the most elite institutions in the country - had its first black student as long ago as 1873.
This was a period of growing rights and freedoms in the UK (starting from a very low base). In 1891, children under 11 were banned from working in factories; in 1893, education was made free and compulsory for children up to age 11; in 1882, the Married Women's Property Act allowed married women to own and control property in their own right. Many socialist and trade unionist organisations were founded at this time, including a precursor to the Labour Party.
Tumblr media
A social concern at this time were the "surplus women" - there was perceived to be a relative excess of women compared with men, prompting fears they wouldn't be able to marry and would have to work. Women were about 40% of the labour force.
If a man and a woman got engaged but the man then broke it off, the woman could sue him for "breach of promise" as this was considered a binding legal contract. The woman could break the engagement with no legal penalty. (You might recognise this as the basis for several Jeeves and Wooster plotlines).
The fertility rate was falling fast - from an average of nearly 5 children per woman in 1880 to 4 in 1895 (this would fall to 2 by 1930). Around 1 in 5 children died before the age of 5, and around 1 in 200 births resulted in the death of the mother.
Daily life and prices
There were only a handful of cars on British roads - so when Mina says she and Lucy "drove up to the house", she means by horse, not by car. But there were ~25,000km of railways in the UK, compared with about 17,000km today.
Tumblr media
The rise of the railways and people actually getting days off meant that this was the golden age of trips to the British seaside. Train fares were a penny per mile, meaning that London to Whitby cost about 20s or a week's labour for a solicitor's clerk, with the purchasing power of £64 today.
As a full-blown solicitor, my guess (though it's only a guess) is that Jonathan is earning about twice that. A female teacher's salary was around £75 a year or 28s a week. A housemaid would earn just £10 a year, though she would get bed and board as well.
Tumblr media
The first edition of a novel cost about a shilling and reprints cost even less - as little as a penny or two for the cheapest books. Literacy was nearly universal in the UK.
Also available for a penny were magazines like the hugely popular Tit-Bits, which was the first periodical to sell over a million copies in the UK. It consisted of short, mostly human interest snippets of information, as well as short stories. Lucy and Mina probably wouldn't read Tit-Bits, but Mr Swales might.

Warnings: language, angst, mentions of night terrors.

A/N: As mentioned in my post earlier today, I have completed my do-over of the chapter I released yesterday. I am much happier with this version and it will definitely make next chapter feel like a natural continuation rather than whiplash. Have a great day, Saskia.
P.S For all you Placebo fans out there, how good is their cover of Tears For Fears’ Shout? I was literally squealing with joy this morning
Sandman Masterlist
--------------
There’s a croquet knitted blanket on the ground before you.
The colours are bright, mismatched, verging on garish. But you love it. It’s reminiscent of the one used at picnics that you shared with your grandparents during your youth.
You can almost taste the tangy prawn cocktail crisps and the tropical squash that came in those straw-pierced pouches on your tongue as you think back to those simpler times.
You turn to gaze out across the wilderness behind you. You're atop a mountain. Where you are, there is a grassy plateau that is a perfect place to rest and appreciate the view.
You kneel down to unlace your chunky walking boots and pull one off before planting the now sock-clad foot on the woollen rectangle. The other boot follows as you stand in perfect flamingo style. You then sink into a cross legged position and survey the landscape properly.
Craggy obtrusions punctuate the rolling vista. They are made of a type of rock that tells you that they were formed by volcanic activity. The shapes themselves are inspirational yet also a touch intimidating.
You look further still and see a coastline. Blue on blue, as sky sits upon sea. It is miles away but just being able to see the horizon is pleasure enough. It is uncommon for you to see an uninterrupted skyline. Your city is a confinement of tower blocks and ringed suburbs of houses.
In comparison to the rocks and water with their dominating natural splendour, you cannot help feeling exceptionally tiny and insignificant.
But you know how important it is to feel that way sometimes. To be humbled by things that are greater than yourself. To appreciate the power that Mother Nature has over all things. It was a comfort to know that if humans pushed their boundaries too far, she would step in and take care of it.
You shift your focus to the details closer to you. The soils here are fertile. There are swathes of wildflowers and grasses supporting all manner of trophic levels, from the tiniest beetle right up to the most majestic bird of prey.
You spy one of the latter mentioned in the distance as it soars in the slipstreams. Its white-feathered underbelly winks at you as the bird spins into a dive.
It disappears into a cluster of butter coloured gorse and you feel a pang of sorrow when it resurfaces with something brown and furry in its talons.
The circle of life. You justify internally, before remembering that the hunt you just witnessed was not actually real. You were most definitely tucked up in bed, not soaking up sunshine in this rugged countryside.
Despite the comfort of your lucidity, your sadness persists.
You can't help but draw a parallel between the images and your recent decisions in the real world.
The sudden and unexpected snatching away of a way of living.
You were the raptor.
Eyelids close as you try to screw the lid back on the jar of memories.
"Just a dream," you say. "No need to over analyse."
When your eyes open again, you notice a book has appeared beside the blanket. Its cover is pristine, spine un-creased, pages devoid of pressure dents.
An invitation to stay a little while longer. One that you couldn’t ignore even if you wanted to. The temptation was too much.
Reaching for the volume, you flip it over, pausing as you notice a few pieces of desiccated grass on the multicoloured surface you are sitting on. You brush the strands off with the heel of your hand.
You begin by inspecting the blurb. Tracing the pads of your fingers over the illustrated borders. They were full of jewel toned flowers. Drawings of cream coloured ribbons had been threaded lazily between the pictures and offset the darker palette nicely.
The passage of text had done its job and hooked you right in. You open the book gingerly and find the first page.
You read. For how long, you cannot tell. Time never felt the same in dreams as it did when you were awake.
Then, you see something in the corner of your eye. A few paces away, stands a person.
The glorious sunlight backlights the sharp lines of a figure into a perfect, angular silhouette. It’s dressed head to toe in black, a colour match to the crown of messy hair that flutters ever so slightly in the breeze.
It was the same man as the one from your bedroom.
You’re a little taken aback but you go with it.
"We have to stop meeting like this."
His face is quirked by a crooked smile.
"Like what?" His voice sounds muted and wobbly compared to when you imagined him in your bedroom, like there’s a wall of water between the two of you.
"In my dreams, of course."
His eyes flick around, processing your surroundings with speed.
"You are quite certain that this place is fiction?"
"Of course I am. There is no way that a spot this beautiful and sunny would be this empty in the real world. And I’ve definitely been here before when I’ve fallen asleep. It's one of my favourite dreams."
"It's an admirable choice."
You tilt your head to the side slightly in surprise.
"Oh, so you're no longer arguing with me about the status of my subconscious?"
"You are correct."
You smile triumphantly. Your dormant brain finally appeared to be listening to reason.
Your playful tone persists, "Wonderful. I'm going to return to my book now. Please feel free to stay if you wish."
You look back down at the tome. Your index finger tracks down the page as you search for the last sentence you remember reading.
But within seconds your eyes are pulled upwards once more by a movement in your peripheral vision.
The man is now standing over you.
"I'm afraid I can't let you do that."
The book falls to rest on your thighs.
"Really? And why is that?"
"It's time to wake up."
You pick up the volume again and hold it up in front of your face.
He calls your name. Your lips purse at his tone; you feel like you're back at school, when you were scolded for reading a book under the table in maths class.
"You have to return to the waking world.”
You lower the object a fraction so you can look him in the eyes as you deliver an assertive response.
"No, thank you."
Your barricade of pages is put back in place.
You speak again, "This is my dream. I am in control here and I want to stay."
The man sighs softly. He speaks again but not to you, "Humans are so stubborn."
You concentrate harder on reading, hoping that ignoring him will make him acquiesce.
But then his left hand is on yours, the other easing the book from your grasp.
Your mouth drops open.
"Umm, rude."
His impassive face is infuriating.
"Please can you give that back?"
"I could, however there would be little point."
You get ready to query his cryptic statement but the reason soon becomes clear.
The words begin to fade from the cover. One letter at a time until it becomes a blank block of card-bound paper.
You don't have to check inside to know that the pages would be completely desolate too.
"Fine." You throw your hands up in defeat and push yourself to a standing position. You situate yourself right in front of him.
"Do you realise how annoying you are?"
"It has been inferred," he deadpans.
"You're funny too, you know... for a figment of my imagination."
He speaks your name again. "I am real."
"As you keep saying. But how am I supposed to believe that when I'm clearly not awake right now?"
"Do you remember what transpired in your bedroom?"
The absurdity of your imminent response is not lost to you. Humour glistens in his ocean eyes as you rattle through the list.
"You appeared, I told you that you were attractive, we argued a bit, you blew sand in my face and then I found myself here.”
He nods in agreement.
“I used the sand to make you sleep. To dream of this place. The only reason you are here is because I made it so and now, this dream has served its purpose."
Your voice becomes a whisper, "What is that supposed to mean? What purpose?"
"You'll find out soon enough.”
If it wasn’t for his comforting smile, you would have found his words a little disconcerting.
“Are you ready to wake up?”
You fiddle absentmindedly with the hem of your shirt.
“Yes.”
He waves his hand and speaks in his wistful voice.
“This dream is over.”

Give Thanks to the LORD, for He is Good
1 Thank the Lord because he is good. His love continues forever. 2 That is what the people the Lord has saved should say. They are the ones he has saved from the enemy. 3 He has gathered them from other lands, from east and west, north and south.
4 Some people had wandered in the desert lands. They found no city to live in. 5 They were hungry and thirsty. They were discouraged. 6 In their misery they cried out to the Lord. And he saved them from their troubles. 7 He led them on a straight road to a city where they could live. 8 Let them give thanks to the Lord for his love and for the miracles he does for people. 9 He satisfies the thirsty. He fills up the hungry.
10 Some sat in gloom and darkness. They were prisoners suffering in chains. 11 They had turned against the words of God. They had refused the advice of God Most High. 12 So he broke their pride by hard work. They stumbled, and no one helped. 13 In their misery they cried out to the Lord. And he saved them from their troubles. 14 He brought them out of their gloom and darkness. He broke their chains. 15 Let them give thanks to the Lord for his love and for the miracles he does for people. 16 He breaks down bronze gates. And he cuts apart iron bars.
17 Some became fools who turned against God. They suffered for the evil they did. 18 They refused to eat anything. So they almost died. 19 In their misery they cried out to the Lord. And he saved them from their troubles. 20 God gave the command and healed them. So they were saved from dying. 21 Let them give thanks to the Lord for his love and for the miracles he does for people. 22 Let them offer sacrifices to thank him. With joy they should tell what he has done.
23 Others went out to sea in ships. They did business on the great oceans. 24 They saw what the Lord could do. They saw the miracles he did. 25 He spoke, and a storm came up. It blew up high waves. 26 The ships tossed as high as the sky and fell low in the waves. The storm was so bad the men lost their courage. 27 They stumbled and fell like men who were drunk. They did not know what to do. 28 In their misery they cried out to the Lord. And he saved them from their troubles. 29 He made the storm be still. He calmed the waves. 30 They were happy that it was quiet. And God guided them to the port they wanted. 31 Let them give thanks to the Lord for his love and for the miracles he does for people. 32 Let them praise his greatness in the meeting of the people. They should praise him in the meeting of the elders.
33 He changed rivers into a desert, and springs of water into dry ground. 34 He made fertile land salty because the people there did evil. 35 He changed the desert into pools of water and dry ground into springs of water. 36 He had the hungry settle there. They built a city to live in. 37 They planted seeds in the fields and vineyards. And they had a good harvest. 38 God blessed them, and they grew in number. Their cattle did not become fewer.
39 Because of disaster, troubles and sadness, their families grew smaller and weaker. 40 He showed he was displeased with their important men. He made them wander in a pathless desert. 41 But he lifted the poor out of their suffering. And he made their families grow like flocks of sheep. 42 Good people see this and are happy. But the wicked say nothing.
43 Whoever is wise will remember these things. He will think about the love of the Lord. — Psalm 107 | International Children’s Bible (ICB) The Holy Bible, International Children’s Bible® Copyright© 1986, 1988, 1999, 2015 by Thomas Nelson. Transiting Mars enters Capricorn
Thursday, January 4 - Tuesday, February 13, 2024
A planet is said to be in its exaltation when it occupies a sign/house which it doesn’t rule, but which nevertheless tends to bring out the best in the planet. Mars is exalted in Capricorn - can you see how Mars’ energy and drive can benefit from Capricornian discipline, patience, and goal-orientation?
This, to me, is a great way to start a new calendar year - especially after Mars’ completion of moving through Sagittarius, which due to difficult aspects was basically Mars flailing around ineffectually. Mars will not flail around during its stint in Capricorn - it will define a possible goal early on, and rise to every challenging occasion.
How this might play out in Mars’ areas:
Physical strength - if our New Year’s Resolution was to “get fit,” it’s less about bodily vanity and more about how being physically strong helps us in every way. We know that “Rome wasn’t built in a day” and we apply that patience and persistence here.
Energy levels - this can be a problem area due to Cap’s tendency to “burn the midnight oil” and work until it drops, without getting adequate rest or refreshment.
Sexuality - another potential problem area due to needing to be in control and not wanting to let go. But also a considerate and thoughtful lover, traditional and steady.
How we go after what we want - we have a plan!! We aren’t always crazy about letting other people “help” us out, mostly because we want to keep in control. We’re able to stay on task.
Overall Mars moving through Capricorn will be a much smoother time than Mars going through Sagittarius. We can get a lot accomplished. We’ll be able to teach Mars some patience, which is a very good thing. Allow for a day or two on either side of the following aspects.
Tuesday, January 9:
Mars/Capricorn sextile Saturn/Pisces, 4°05’
Mars/Capricorn (4°12’) sesquisquare Uranus Rx/Taurus (19°12’)
We have a pretty good idea about where we want to go, but there are roadblocks which frustrate us. Sort of a “delayed opportunity.”
Friday, January 12 - Mars/Capricorn trine Jupiter/Taurus (5°50’). An early payoff? Even if you lose, you win. A time to take a calculated risk.
Sunday, January 14 - Mars/Capricorn (7°43’) semi-square Pallas Athene/Scorpio (22°43’). Some of our plans don’t work out. Shrug it off.
Thursday, January 25 - Mars/Capricorn square Chiron/Aries (15°51’). The stereotypical manifestation would be putting in long hours at the office, to the detriment of one’s partner. Try not to be so focused on your goal that you hurt others.
Saturday, January 27 - Mars/Capricorn conjunct Mercury/Capricorn (17°17’). This, believe it or not, is the 3rd of three conjunctions - the first was back on October 29, at 11°54’ Scorpio; and the second was on December 27, at 24°21’ Sagittarius. Some idea you had way back when (1) has gone through a few revisions and (2) is now finally ready to be acted upon.
Monday, January 29 - Mars/Capricorn trine Uranus/Taurus (19°05). Material (Earth) independence and self-reliance. The Moon is in Virgo earlier in the day, giving us an Earth grand trine to get things done.
Tuesday, January 30 - Mars/Capricorn square North Node/Aries and South Node/Libra (19°20’). Getting in our own way. We may be so caught up in our plotting that we ignore a simpler solution - or, we try to manipulate people and situations when they don’t suit us, instead of negotiating with them.
Wednesday, January 31 - Mars/Capricorn trine Juno Rx/Virgo (20°33’). Productive partnerships. Can also indicate a good time between the sheets; possible fertility.
Thursday, February 1 - Mars/Capricorn (21°35’) semi-square Saturn/Pisces (6°35’). Frustration leading to a “null” result. Our timing is off - Mars is the gas pedal and Saturn is the brakes. Take some deep breaths!
Friday, February 2 - Mars/Capricorn inconjunct Vesta Rx/Gemini (21°52). Distractions, inability to focus; sexuality issues where one partner is just not “in the mood.”
Monday, February 5 - Mars/Capricorn square Eris/Aries (24°12’). The most difficult aspect of the transit. It’s important to have a healthy outlet for anger and frustration. (Ms M always advises “clean the bathroom” when these happen.) Don’t let your anger spoil what you’re trying to do.
Wednesday, February 7 - Mars/Capricorn sextile Neptune/Pisces (25°58’). We started Mars/Capricorn with a sextile to Saturn, and we’re ending it with a sextile to Neptune. If we’ve tried to use the energy well, we have a vision of how our efforts will benefit us over the eons to come. The mists and fog clear for a bit.

OK here is the order I /think/ these should be..
Tumblr media
I went back through all the days and re-identified the stones that came out on each day. Some are different from what I originally identified them. I am not 100% certain on every choice, as some ended up being placed there by process of elimination. Moss Agate and Fluorite could possibly be swapped with each other. I almost put down Carnelian and Cherry Quartz the other way round too.
If you would put them in a different order which ones would you swap?
Amethyst; day 12 Intuition, calming, accessing wisdom, bringing peace, healing.
Green Aventurine; day 5 Good luck, optimism, freshness, gratitude, blessings, heart space.
Citrine; day 20 Abundance, joy, positive energy flow, friendships, wealth, fertility, power.
Carnelian; day 15 Fertility, potentiality, creative power, vitality, sexuality, manifestations.
Dalmatian Stone; day 14 Fun, inner child, optimism, joy, playfulness, light-heartedness, youth.
Howlite; day 24 Relieves stress, overcomes grief, assists with getting a good night's sleep.
Red Jasper; day 18 Vitality, grounding, strength, stamina, passion, creative energy.
Opalite; day 23 Transition, success and achievement, communication, friendships, verbalising feelings.
Rose Quartz; day 16 Love, gentleness, emotional healing, stress relief, romance.
Tiger's eye; day 17 Balance, courage, good luck, inspiration, focus on true passion.
Fluorite; day 9 Removes fear, releases and heal anger.
Black Obsidian; day 7 Psychic protection, cleansing, clearing, magic, safety, power, maintaining.
