Time Loop or Time Travel?

Trying my best to remember all the beautiful things I’ve read by you, but best to take the opportunity of this game and ask! 😂

RWRB Doctor Who AU is time travel of a sort, but it's probably more accurately categorised 'time fuckery' 🤣

SC 50 First Dates AU isn't a time loop fic, but my brief attempt at writing a David POV prequel sure fucking felt like one, which is probably why it languished forever 😜

I have a couple of AUs that are more reality-hopping than they are time loops/time travel, but nothing else that REALLY fits into either of those categories. Which is a tragedy because I love love LOVE magical realism and god this is a genre I adore. But yeah, time loops in particular are HARD to write; you have to get the repetitive nature of them across without the WRITING being repetitive. I'd honestly love to write an OG novel with some sort of time shenanigans going on but I don't have any sort of an idea beyond that, so who knows 🤣

i can't write roleswaps because every time i think about them i get so horny i can't focus. tragic state of affairs smh

truth be told though I tend to be more interested in 'standard' roleswap stories - ie, the roles have always been swapped & we re-run the entire continuity from there - when other people are writing them. When I play with stories constructed that way I very quickly land in "well I would rather just write this as origfic" territory and wind up with a completely different situation. What really gets me going is when the roles are explicitly swapped in-story. which i have never finished writing because it makes me too horny to see straight. explicit re-establishment of positions....

eta: i was wrong, I did write one! Project Forging Chains was going to be a Decepticon-Leader!Optimus Prime and Autobot-Leader!Megatron fic but I ran out of steam and also it's not that good. Don't read it.

I think the only fic I've ever written where I killed one of the main characters -- possibly because it's the only fic that was ever long enough to manage the emotional weight of killing someone -- was L'epoux Cadavre ... although it's a slightly bizarre example since

(spoilers for a dear god nearly twenty year old fic)

I killed Erik in the first chapter, because the story absolutely required him to be dead to begin with, and then I killed him again in the third to last chapter.

Otherwise, thus far I haven't yet written a story where it made the most sense for one of the main characters to die; life has too many possibilities!

Have you ever written parentlock! that wasn't with Rosie? Like some other child/children?

No, when I was first in the Sherlock fandom in 2010-12, there was very little Parentlock. When I came back after my own hiatus in 2018, Rosie was already around.

As to how I'd do it if I did it... well, there's this bunny I had a few years ago where Sherlock has a daughter named Charlotte who meets Rosie in school and they strike up an intense friendship, and somehow their dads always just miss each other until they meet and kaboom, instant attraction, but there's John's ex-wife and Sherlock's unwillingness to let anyone into their lives because he doesn't trust anyone. I never wrote it and I never will (probably), but basically the dynamic between Charlotte and Rosie is very much like the dynamic between Sherlock and John, only they're seven and aren't hindered by a lifetime of repression. So.

Time travel? Time loops? Where a character has to solve something or do something before the loop ends and he gets back to his normal timeline?

Nope I haven't done that. And to be honest, I don't like time loops so I don't think I'd ever write a story with time loops. Too much stress

Or, never have I ever written a fic to criticize a plot or character I didn't like?

I have, with Cobra Kai - in fact the whole reason my Cobra Kai Mini Rewrites even started was because I'd gone from loving the show (though acknowledging it's flaws) to not being able to stand the show after the sharp drop in quality in S4, and it was cathartic to write 18 fix-fics for scenes that were really fucking infuriating.

Worst feeling ever is when you go to reread a fic you really like and find out it's been deleted. Even WORSE worst feeling ever is checking the author's profile and finding out they've deleted all of their fics entirely

Reading the webtoon and…

Does this imply that Kim Dokja also tried to write a questionnaire for her to fill in since she wouldn’t speak to him, that either he 1) never gave her in the end (especially if he couldn’t find her after she was released) or 2) gave it to her and she STILL refused to answer?

Because that is so so so so awful. It was already bad but if he tried so many ways to get her to speak and she still gave him no response, regardless of her reasoning… isn’t that still directly choosing to cut herself fully out of his life? Why in the hell did she lie for his sake and allow him to visit her if she wanted to never speak to him again?

I know everyone claims Kim Dokja is just like her in sacrificing himself for loved ones, but at least he tries his best to stay with them and to keep them in his life. He still chooses sacrifice, but it’s not because he intends to never return. He always returns (even if much later than planned).

The only time this differs is with 51%, when he STILL tried his best to stay with them - at least as much as he could.

I sometimes like Lee Sookyung, but I am mostly still SO mad at her for completely ignoring her child since he was 8 years old. Especially when he must have looked like shit any number of times from being mistreated and bullied by family, friends, army, employers.

But maybe that’s just the fragment in me being eternally pissed with her. She DOES love him, but like he says in the webtoon in this chapter - maybe such truths are painful enough to be false anyways, because they’re just SUCH bullshit. That’s not how affection should work, if you actually care about someone and want them to be happy.

I don't think I've ever written this, at least not in the way the trope means! I fucking LOVE a spy AU/action fic/etc but writing them terrifies me; plot is my weak point lmao. That being said, it's almost definitely going to happen at least once in the Leverage AU because how could it not 😅

If a fic author deletes their work, what’s your take on people who’ve previously downloaded the fics sharing their copies? I’m personally torn on it - I can understand both sides, but was wondering what others think.

This might be a controversial opinion, but I think it's fine to share downloaded copies of fics in certain situations. For example, if a friend mentions they have the fic and another friend asks them to email it to them. Or someone is desperately looking for their all time favourite fic that was deleted and asks for it on tumblr, I think it's okay for someone else to answer and offer to email it to them. I think, as authors, we need to accept that we give up a certain level of control when we publish a fic. Anyone can download it, even if we later delete the fic.

ALTHOUGH, I think posting it in a more public setting for other people to access (e.g., sending a link to a massive discord server) is probably a no-go?? Also, if the author has come out and explicitly asked people not to share downloads, then I'd say respect their wishes!!
