a brief post regarding KOSA.

KOSA (also known as Kids Online Safety Act) alongside others like it (such as the Online Safety Act in the UK, RESTRICT-IT, COPPA 2.0, etc.) Are planning to censor the internet. In particular, KOSA and Online Safety Act are very close to being passed through and made law.

Now, what do I mean when I say "censor the internet"? Well...

Under the guise of "Protecting children", these bigots trying to push the bill through congress want to censor LGBTQ+/queer content (including advice for trans and gay teenagers), abortion, gun violence, gore and violence, sexual/18+ content, suicide and depression help, and many more.

This bill also plans to effectively destroy free speech online, with the removal of end-to-end encryption. Furthermore, it also wants an ID for online posting and will reveal what kids are doing to their parents regardless. This would be extremely harmful especially for queer minors in the closet, or minors with abusive parents.

but what can YOU do to stop these bills?

You can Phone your senators, sign petitions, send emails, or spread the word through social media. We CANNOT let laws like KOSA and Online Safety Act censor queer people and destroy our queer cultures online. 2 senators have already disagreed with KOSA, one of them because of the phonecalls and feedback from people like US, which is proof that it's still worth fighting. the fight is far from over, but even the smallest of actions is one step closer to shutting this bill down. Both KOSA and Online Safety are in recess until September, so make this month count.

I made 3 phonecalls today to my representatives in order to oppose censorship of the internet. It's my Constitutional right as a USAmerican to yell really loud about government policy I don't approve of.

I do not approve of internet censorship, criminalization of anything LGBT+, or criminalization of Sex Work. I don't agree that censorship or destroying end-to-end encryption will protect children online, and in fact I think it will make online spaces worse for them.

I also don't agree that telecommunications policies should be centered around children in the first place, since adults use the internet too.

To those reading this, you're probably aware of the KOSA bill. If not, then to put it into simpler terms: It's basically a bill that is supposed to "protect children" on the Internet when it absolutely does not, it actually hurts people, especially the LGBTQ+ community, which the bill sees the community as "groomers".

So please, to prevent this god-awful bill from passing; please call and email some senators and tell them to not let that bill pass, please DON'T LET THAT BILL PASS, I REPEAT, DON'T LET THAT BILL PASS, AND I'LL REPEAT AGAIN: DON'T LET THAT MOTHERFUCKING BILL PASS!

For me and a lot of others, social media and the internet in general was one of the best things that has ever happened to our lives. Many people think that the reason the mental health of so many minors is awful is because of the internet. I’m absolutely confident that it is not. In fact, the internet is more like an escape, because most of the causes for declining mental health happen in real life.

I’ll admit, my mental health isn’t the best. It’s far from the best. but NONE of it was caused by being online. It was caused by years of bullying and abuse, (with not a single bit of it being through the internet) and seeing people like the ones in Congress doing everything in their power to ensure that people like me and the many people I’ve grown to love and care about these past few years will never be able to have a happy future.

I’m not completely denying that some people have developed stuff like depression through the internet. It has happened before. But a pretty large majority of the internet agrees that a law like the Earn It Act, COPPA 2.0, and KOSA aren’t gonna help with that in the slightest. There’s plenty of ways to protect kids online, but this is not the solution.

The government shouldn’t be parenting people’s children. The internet shouldn’t be parenting people’s children.

I know this is all I’ve been posting/reblogging recently, but that’s because this is an extremely important thing going on that could ruin and end so many lives!!! I swear to god guys, please call, please sign petitions, because our voices are being heard. Multiple senators have voiced their concerns on this bill because we’ve been calling.

Yes, they are going to try to forcibly pass KOSA this week, but we only need ONE senator to oppose it for it not to become an official law.

I don’t know how much time we have left exactly, but I know it’s not a lot. So please call, text, sign petitions, make sure your voice is heard, or else the #1 support for minorities, and the #1 way people communicate in general, will be GONE.

I hate the world we live in. It’s hard to be hopeful in a world that is so hellbent on destruction and control. Humanity will always strive for a better future, a better world but there will always be people who are so consumed by greed & power that they’ll do just about anything to get what they want, leaving a trail of unspeakable horror and destruction in their wake for the eyes of all generations young and old to bare witness. What’s happening in Palestine is barbaric, it’s genocide, it's murdering thousands of innocent men, women & children. Rishi Sunak does not speak for me nor the United Kingdom as a whole, he speaks only for himself and those that support the destruction & slaughtering of the Palestinians. This is a humanitarian crisis. How can anyone support the brutal killing of human beings? I cannot imagine the heartbreak, the suffering that the people of Palestine, those that are living in other countries watching those risking their life to bring us news of Palestine hearing the news of their families, their people being killed & slaughtered. All i know is that I am deeply saddened, enraged that this is happening. There is so much going on in the world. It's hard to be hopeful when corrupt people are in power. Have the means & access to funds to fuel their actions. It's hard to be hopeful, but we have to be hopeful. They will try to silence them, they will try to silence us, they've already done so by cutting off their energy supply, their power, their water we have to keep fighting, keep screaming, keep protesting, keep screaming at the top of our lungs for them to stop. Keep spreading awareness. We have to come together & stand with Palestine because it's the right thing to do, the human thing to do. We can't let corrupt politicians, win & get away with their actions. We need to hold them accountable & everyone else that supports Israel, boycott companies that actively support Israel. We can't let monsters win. We have to keep fighting for humanity.
