You’d volunteered to deal with the docking fees for the Going Merry, locking up the pirate ship as the rest of the crew entered Baratie. You were just five or so minutes late entering after the restaurant the rest of the Straw Hats had gone into. You’d never seen anything like it before—an eatery right in the middle of the ocean, in the shape of a giant fish.
You stepped into the building cautiously, glancing around the wide expanse of the main room to try and catch a glimpse of your friends. The restaurant was big, with a mezzanine that you’d entered in and stairs leading down to the first floor. The host, a fishman who was standing at the reservation desk, glanced up to take a look at you.
“Ah, you must be with the pirates,” he said pleasantly. “Right this way, miss.”
You nodded, wondering how Luffy was intending on paying for the bill of such a place as you scoped out the area. It was far nicer than anything you would’ve expected—but then again, he’d somehow managed to score the Going Merry from Kaya back in Syrup Village, so you figured he’d work something out.
Finally, you caught a glimpse of the rest of your crew, tucked away in a circular side booth that the fishman led you to. Luffy brightened upon seeing you, waving you over with a hand so excitedly you feared it was about to flop around like rubber. Considering his powers, that was a more than likely situation, actually.
“Thank you,” you told the host, then turned towards your friends. “No food yet?”
“You didn’t miss much,” Usopp said, a little snicker in his voice. “Just the waiter getting our drink orders. He was flirting the heck outta Nami.”
“Oh?” you asked, a smile flickering up your lips. The only open space in the table was between Zoro and Nami—you gave Zoro a confused look, and he gestured down to his swords, which were caught in the ledge between the chair and the wall. You snickered. “Ro. You’re such a loser.”
“Shut up,” Zoro muttered, hand on your waist as you climbed over him to get to the empty seat. It stayed there for a moment longer, even after you’d arranged yourself in the seat, before he finally dropped his hand. Usopp made a face that you pointedly ignored.
“What’d you guys order?” you asked instead. If there’d been a menu available, the waiter had probably taken it away; still, there wasn’t much variety in the East Blue, so you could expect there’d be a lot of seafood and not much else.
“One of everything,” Luffy responded brightly. “So we’ll be able to try the whole menu!”
“You sure that’s a good idea, Cap?” you asked, brows raised. Luffy shrugged.
“I don’t see why not.”
“Quit it with the nickname,” Zoro muttered. Neither him or Nami had gotten any more receptive to it since you’d first started calling Luffy it. Usopp didn’t seem so keen on it either—if only because he fancied himself Captain Usopp. Luffy liked it, though, and that pleased you enough to keep using it.
“I’ll get you to start saying it eventually,” you teased, nudging Zoro in the arm. He shook his head, but there was a suggestion of a smile on his lips as he glanced away. “Just you wait.” You turned to Nami, eyes sparkling. “What about the waiter, though? Was he cute?”
Usopp laughed at that, and Nami gave you a disparaging look. “Come on,” she started. “Not you too. Zoro was all—”
The sound of footsteps cut off her speech, and you glanced up to find a lean, blond man pausing by the lip of your table. He held a silver plate, upon which perched a variety of different drinks—beers, milk, water. “Here are your drinks,” he said, voice lifting with an accent you couldn’t quite place. “And appetizers.”
He had just finished placing the last of the drinks balancing on his forearm on the table when the waiter glanced up and registered you sitting there. His expression instantly changed, the crease of his mouth softening into a pleasant smile, his previously-dull blue eyes bright and sparkling. “Well, hello there. An addition?”
“Yeah, sorry I’m late,” you said. The waiter flashed a grin, white ivories shining under the fluorescents.
“Oh, absolutely no problem. They say those who are late are fashionable, and you, madam, certainly fit the bill,” the waiter said. Your eyes widened, glancing over to Nami to find her shaking her head, but the waiter didn’t stop there. “I’m Sanji. What can I get for you to drink? We’ve got a wide selection of fine wines that might suit your taste.”
“Oh, um—” you started, glancing at the rest of your crew again. Usopp was hiding his snicker, and Nami was giving you a tired look. Assumedly this had been the man who’d tried it on her, too—to unfortunate ends, probably, considering how Nami was. Not that this would be any more effective on you. Your eye was already captured by a particular green-haired swordsman, after all. “I don’t really have anything in mind.”
Sanji looked pleased about that, clasping his hands together around his platter. “Ah, let me guess, then. A bayberry or red currant wine, perhaps? Fruity, tart, full of flavor.” he winked. “A feisty drink for a feisty girl.”
“Can’t say I’ve tried it, but sure,” you said, the faintest smile on your lips. “I’ll let you know how I like it.”
Sanji grinned, looking rather satisfied with that, a delighted little smile on his lips. “One red currant wine, then. I’ll have it right out. And would you also like to order a meal, or…” He glanced over at Luffy, presumably referencing your captain’s more-than-outrageous order. “Are you all set?”
“I think we’re set, thanks,” you assured, and Sanji nodded. He flashed you another bright smile before turning on his heel back off to the kitchen.
Usopp finally let out the laughter he’d been keeping in, choked sounds emitting from his throat as he thudded his chest with a fist. You rolled your eyes, but it was good-natured, letting Usopp laugh.
“Well, at least I’m not being singled out,” Nami said with a sigh, and you exchanged a sympathetic glance with her. She patted your hand comfortingly, then scrutinized the water Sanji had gotten her. “At least he didn’t put it in a flute.”
“Zoro, you’ve got competition!” Usopp called, still laughing from the entire ordeal. You glanced to your side, to where the swordsman sat. Zoro had stiffened sometime during the conversation, jaw clenched and arms wound tightly across his chest. He hadn’t even touched the beer that Sanji had set in front of him, eyes fixed carefully to a spot beside Luffy’s head and refusing to look over at you.
“He’s a waiter,” Zoro said crisply. “He buses tables for a living.” With that, he grabbed his bottle, popping the tab and taking a swig.
“I don’t know, man, did you see the way he took down those pirates?” Usopp turned to you, all excited again. “Oh, you missed this whole thing! Two pirates were fighting over a seat or something, and Sanji just demolished both of them! You would’ve loved it.”
“He is a really good fighter,” Luffy agreed. Their words did nothing but seem to annoy Zoro further.
“Can we not talk about the restaurant personnel? Surely you can think of more interesting topics of conversation.” His tone was sharp, and all icy, and you inched your hand closer to his leg to tap his thigh in question. He glanced down at your touch, but didn’t deign to say anything else. He just picked up his beer again, nursing it while the rest of the crew continued on with their conversation.
Despite Luffy changing the subject, Zoro didn’t speak, and you kept peeking glances over at him in concern. Your feelings for him had just continued developing ever since Syrup Village, although neither of you had reasonably talked about the closet incident since it’d happened. What with the reveal of Kuro and the escape from the marines and all, there hadn’t exactly been time to. But you’d been on good terms, and the actions he made around you—pressing a hand to your waist as you moved past him, turning towards you first mid-conversation, shoving you down when the marines had fired their first cannon at the Going Merry.
Before you could whisper to him and question what his silence was about, though, Sanji reappeared, carrying two platters filled to the brim with plates. They were laden with different types of meat and vegetables, sauces glinting under the light and hot steam still billowing.
He set the dishes on the table, somehow managing to arrange them so they all fit on the countertop. Sanji set down the last plate then turned to you, placing a glass and a bottle of dark crimson wine on the table in front of you. He had to lean over Zoro to reach, and Zoro flinched, but still didn’t say anything as Sanji uncorked the bottle and poured you a glass.
“Tell me what you think,” he said, all smiles again. “I’ll be embarrassed if it isn’t to your liking.”
You picked the glass up, swirling it carefully inside the glass before leaning down into the cup to take in a full sniff. You tilted your head back to take a small sip, moving the liquid around your mouth to fully savor the flavor before finally swallowing. The wine was sweet, light rather than rich with a delicate tartness that burst on your tongue. You glanced up just to see a giant grin had stretched up Sanji’s mouth, brightening his face up considerably.
“What?” you asked.
“Not often do I see a patron who knows how to taste wine properly,” Sanji answered with a little duck of his head. “A lady of class, I see. How do you like it?”
“Not too strong. I like the tartness,” you answered. “A good recommendation. Thank you.”
Sanji gave you a little bow, hand flourishing to the side as he dipped his head. “I live to serve.”
“Yeah, well, why don’t you serve me another beer?” Zoro said abruptly. Usopp coughed, and you could see Nami elbow him out of your peripheral vision. Luffy just looked confused.
Sanji’s face fell almost immediately after Zoro had spoken, his eyes flickering away from yours. “Of course. I’ll be right back,” he said, a tight smile at his lips. He ducked out of the booth, and Zoro let out an irritated noise, tongue flicking against from the roof of his mouth.
Usopp snorted, fully this time, and you turned to glance over at him—he and Nami were both hiding their gazes, though you could see smiles cracked along their lips.
Zoro glared at them. “Shut it.”
“Not saying anything!” Usopp said, though he half-hid behind Luffy like Zoro was going to lunge over the table to get to him. That didn’t seem… entirely unlikely, actually; Zoro’s right hand rested firmly on the handle of one of his swords, fingers ready to pull the blade at any second. You watched him out of the corner of your eye, wanting to say something. But not in front of everyone else. It wouldn’t be appropriate, you decided.
Eventually your meal wound down to an end. Zoro got less and less tense throughout it, though you were fairly certain that was due to the drinks he was having rather than any actual reassurance. Sanji, thankfully, came back with the bill in the middle of a conversation you really didn’t want to think about—Luffy and his marine grandfather was not something your mind wanted to dwell on—only for him to disappear again.
Just moments later, a man with a braided mustache came storming out of the kitchen. Luffy did some more of his Luffy nonsense, and, honestly—you were getting too tired about all of this to pay any close attention. You spared a glance over at Zoro again. His face was as blank as ever.
“Okay,” Usopp said slowly, a few delayed seconds after who’d undoubtedly been the head chef yanked Luffy out of his seat. “I’m ready to check out whatever’s outside. Let’s go.”
“What about Luffy?” you asked, perplexed.
“He’ll find his way out of that,” Nami said with a sigh. She stood up, knocking back the rest of her drink. Since she wasn’t exactly wrong, you got up, glancing over your shoulder at the last of the group that remained seated. “Zoro?”
Zoro was staring into his now-empty bottle of beer. He still seemed off, the line of his mouth creased downwards, jaw set tight. “Yeah,” he said finally, standing to his full height and slipping out of the booth. He offered you a hand, helping you down from your seat, but said nothing more.
The four of you headed out to the mouth of the Baratie fish, which boasted a bar decorated with neon lights. You found a place to sit by the fish’s bottom lip, and you turned in your seat, staring out at the sea. The water was dark with the night, peaceful ripples moving across the water that sent shimmering waves across the blue.
“I’m gonna get a drink,” Usopp said. “Come, Nami?”
“Huh?” Nami glanced up, and you turned to watch the exchange. “Oh, I’m okay, Usopp. Thanks, though.”
“No,” Usopp insisted, a smile still pasted on his face as he jerked his head, not very discreetly, in your and Zoro’s direction. Nami seemed to realize, then, eyes going wide before she got up from her seat.
“Actually, on second thought, I’ll join you,” she said, far smoother than Usopp had been. “God knows you don’t have any money to pay for a drink.”
She breezed past him, ignoring the offended gape Usopp left in her wake before he was scrambling to follow her. You turned your attention towards Zoro—he was lounging in the seat across from you, one hand on his swords with his legs crossed. “Hi,” you said carefully.
He stiffened. “Hey.”
You pursed your lips, mulling over the ways to go about the conversation before ultimately deciding to spit it out. “What’s wrong?” At his raised brow, you were prompted to continue— “During dinner. You were acting weird.”
Zoro shook his head, dropping his gaze from yours. You could see the faintest trace of freckles spattered along his cheeks, the yellow glow from the lanterns reflecting off his skin. “Nothing’s wrong. Just… the waiter.”
“The waiter,” you repeated. Zoro shifted, legs uncrossing and hand tightening around his swords again. His voice was low the next time he spoke, and you could barely hear him, having to lean forward to catch all of his words.
“He was flirting with you.”
Your breath hitched, but you tried to keep your tone casual. “He was flirting with Nami too,” you said, glancing up to meet his eyes. Zoro still wouldn’t meet your gaze, staring out into the East Blue behind you.
“That’s different.” Zoro’s eyes finally lifted, long eyelashes casting shadows on his cheeks as you met eyes. You shivered, gooseflesh suddenly prickling up everywhere on your skin—the back of your neck, up your spine, down your arms and legs. “I don’t like Nami.”
You tilted your head to the side, meeting his gaze. The words sent a little rush through you; a rush you got practically every time Zoro looked in your direction, actually, which was only a little bit annoying. The amount of influence a man you’d known for, comparatively, not that long had over you had you rolling your eyes all the time, but… you trusted Zoro at this point, as uncooperative as he and Nami had been throughout your entire journey.
“You’re jealous of a waiter.”
“Don’t—” Zoro sighed. “Don’t put it like that.”
“But it’s true. You’re jealous of a waiter,” you said, unblinking. Zoro rolled his eyes, teeth resting along his lower lip in an almost-bite. You snickered, tone sloping upwards to become more teasing, almost sarcastic. “How the mighty have fallen. From me practically begging you to say I looked nice in a dress to this.”
“Okay, that’s enough,” Zoro said, uncrossing his legs to lean over and press his hand over your mouth. You laughed, surprised, as he leaned over you, eyes sparkling at the reaction. “Not another word.”
He removed his hand, giving you a look. You betrayed his trust almost immediately. “Of a waiter.”
“Do you want me to put the hand back?” Zoro threatened, but you were full-on laughing by now, and he couldn’t do anything but watch. The sounds escaped from your mouth, ringing out in soft, lively hiccups. He shook his head, hand falling to his side as he watched you, a ghost of a smile tugging up the side of his mouth.
“Sorry, Ro,” you said, unable to suppress your grin even as your laughter died off. “It’s a little funny, you have to admit.”
“I’d like to hear you talk if someone was flirting with me,” Zoro muttered, so quiet you could barely hear. You had to stifle another laugh.
“Okay, well, unlike you, I don’t get territorial over people I haven’t even talked about my relationship with, but I appreciate it.” You nudged him. “It’s kinda cute.”
Zoro seemed lost in the first half of your sentence, and you could practically see the cogs whirring in his head. For a moment, you were worried that the closet had been a one-time thing—but no, he’d mentioned just earlier that he liked you, so clearly something else was the matter.
Your worries were answered in just another moment. “...We’re supposed to talk about our relationship?”
“Zoro.” You gave him a look of disbelief, forced to suppress another laugh, though this time it was out of incredulity. “Yes. Have you ever dated anyone before?”
Zoro made a face at that. “Keeping that to myself, thanks.” He dropped his chin, glancing down at where you were, still leaning over you so you were forced to crane your neck to stare up at him. He tilted his head to the side. “So what kind of talking are we supposed to be doing?”
“You know, the establishment of being exclusive; a cementation of our feelings; what the relationship entails; where we want it to go…” You paused, watching as his eyes flickered down your face. Your words were going in one ear and out the other. “You’re not listening at all, huh.”
“Not really,” Zoro said, not sounding very apologetic about it. His free hand came to cup the underside of your jaw, tilting your head up just so. “Is the talking really that necessary?”
You shrugged, trying to keep your cool. “Eventually.”
“Eventually,” he repeated, stretching out the syllables of the word as he quoted you. “So we can do it another day.”
You bit the inside of your cheek to hide your smile. “What were you thinking?”
Zoro was slotting his lips over yours before you could say another word, his fingers digging into the hinge of your jaw to allow him better access. You smiled into the kiss, lips curling upwards and open to let him lick into your mouth.
It wasn’t too risqué, but Zoro took your breath away all the same, an appreciative murmur low in his throat as he kissed you. One of your hands wrapped around his wrist, tugging him insistently downwards so you could get a better angle at his mouth, sucking gently at his lower lip. He nearly stumbled, losing his center of gravity before steadying himself, one hand coming to rest on your ribcage as the kiss deepened.
“Guys!” Usopp’s voice came somewhere from the right, high-pitched and excessively scandalized. You felt Zoro scoff into your mouth.
“You realize you’re in public, right?” Nami deadpanned, plopping down in the seat next to you. You nudged Zoro’s head away, his hand still on your jaw, half-craned over your figure. Nami looked unimpressed, eyes flickering from Zoro to you and back again. “Get a room. Go back to the Going Merry for all I care.” She extended a hand, placing a mug of beer on the table before you before handing you a matching one. “I got you drinks. You’re welcome.”
“Thanks,” you said, leaning up to press one final kiss on Zoro’s lips before turning to take the glass Nami had outstretched. Usopp groaned, covering his eyes with one hand and lifting a giant cup of something with the other. It was so big you wondered how he’d even been able to carry it. You eyed him. “You’re going to pass out drinking that.”
Usopp made a face at you. You just laughed.
“Sorted out your issues with the waiter, then?” Nami asked, turning to fix a knowing look on Zoro. He rolled his eyes, effortless as ever as he settled back down into his seat.
“Still don’t like the waiter.”
“You’re ridiculous,” you said, and Zoro scoffed, picking up the mug Nami had gotten him. You could see the smile behind the glass rim, though, even as he clearly tried to hide it, and matched it with one of your own.
Zoro ducked his head to smile into his beer. Usopp made a gagging sound. “God,” Nami muttered, but their criticisms might as well have been deaf to your ears by then.
All you could see was Zoro.

Swimming with Sharks: Arlong x F!Reader
Tags: nsfw, unhealthy relationships (Reader is delusional), Reader is kept as a "pet", masturbation, size difference, double penetration, oral sex, Arlong-typical degradation
Tumblr media
There had to have been something wrong with you.
You were enamored with a pirate, which was bad enough on its own, but the situation was even more twisted than that, as the pirate you lusted after was the man who had been holding your village captive for the past eight years.
Arlong was a horrible, terrible man.
You felt disgusted with yourself. This wasn’t normal, and it certainly wasn’t healthy. This man had killed villagers, recruited a child to join his slimy crew, and was very open about his views on the “inferior” human race. To him, you were nothing more than a piggy bank, offering your tribute as often as he requested.
But whatever god exists is cruel and loves to play jokes.
You couldn’t help but be enchanted by him. Maybe it was his power, tall stature, or something else entirely, but you wanted him more than anything.
To be his was all you ever desired since Arlong arrived years ago, awakening something inside your teenage heart. You had hoped it was just the hormones acting up or some sort of weird phase, but no, you were in your twenties now, and the fish man still made you hot and bothered.
And as much as you wanted to hate him, to loathe and despise him, you couldn’t.
So when collection day came, you were jittery in anticipation instead of shaking and cowering in fear like an average person would. It was the rare occasion where you got to see him up close, and while he wouldn’t speak with you directly, you would hear his gruff voice ordering his underlings around.
And today, you were very fortunate as Arlong would grace you with his presence once more.
When the fishmen enter the village, the place becomes a ghost town, everyone making themselves scarce as they wait for the pirates to bang on their door.
You peek out the window, your heart racing and your head spinning as you watch them approach your neighbor’s house. You observe in interest, your eyes raking over each man before your eyes finally catch on Arlong, who seems to be conversing with one of his men.
When they head for your door, you’re on the porch before they even get the chance to knock. On the porch are several fishmen, but Arlong seems to be missing. Your face falls in disappointment.
“Well, you’re eager for us to drain your pockets,” one of his crewmates laughs, leaning in to sneer down at you, “Just make sure you hand it all over, or else we’ll have to sic our Captain on you.”
Your ears twitch at that.
You knew what you were thinking was dumb, reckless, and really dangerous, but this was an opportunity to get his attention, and it couldn’t be thrown away.
“Ah, I don’t have any money this month-“you smile nervously, “But maybe I could talk things over with your Captain and-“
As you try to talk your way into meeting with Arlong personally, the fishman you’re speaking to glances over your shoulder, seeing your purse lying on your kitchen table.
“You have nothing, you say?” He asks, clearly not believing a word, “Then what’s this over here?”
He shoves you aside roughly, and you hiss in pain, rubbing the area where he pushed you.
The man starts digging around in your handbag, retrieving enough berries for his month’s payment and then some.
You grow hot in embarrassment as he waves the cash in the air before walking towards the door, “Looks like humans are just as dumb as I thought! They can’t even count properly.”
Shit. There goes the money for food.
As the fishman passes the threshold, you hear him call out, “Hey, Arlong! This human was trying to get out of handing over our money!”
And when he emerges from the rabble of men, your heart races in your chest.
“What’s this now?” His low voice inquires, talking more to you than to his subordinate.
You try to muster the courage to speak, but nothing comes out. Arlong steps forward, crowding your space, and your heartbeat grows louder.
“And why would you ever think of doing that, little human?” The question is definitely more of a threat, and because you are clearly some sort of masochist, your insides throb excitedly.
You answer honestly, “I-I wanted to get your attention-“
His crew bursts out laughing.
“His attention?”
“It’s like a child!”
“What a strange wish!”
Arlong lets his men laugh for a while, but eventually, he raises a hand, making them quiet down.
“And why do you want my attention, pitiful little creature?” He smirks, “Maybe you plan to distract me while your fellow humans attempt to attack my men, is that it?”
“N-No sir, I would never!” You exclaim, “I-I just- well-“
Your stammering wears Arlong’s patience thin, “Out with it already.”
“I-I am entranced by you-“you confess, “A-And I- um-“
Your sentence trails off as he begins pacing around you in circles, his eyes never leaving you for a moment as if he were appraising you, which, in all fairness, he probably was.
“So,” he takes some of your hair, allowing it to fall between his fingers as he assesses you closely, “You’re entranced by me, are you? A human that desires a fishman- now that is something I have never seen before…”
Arlong hums, and you squeal as he hooks a finger under your camisole straps, sliding it past your shoulder as if examining the skin underneath. But clearly, he wasn’t; he was just hoping to get into your head.
And it was working, but in a different way than he anticipated.
“For a human,” he starts, “you’re not terrible looking… I’d even say that you are somewhat attractive.”
“T-Thank you,” your voice quivers, “It’s such great praise to hear you say that, sir.”
“Tell me,” he’s behind you now, leaning down to whisper in your ear, “Do you fear me?”
“Y-Yes sir,” you choke out, “Very much-“
“And yet you are aroused by me. Your logical mind tells you to stay away from me, but you listen to your body instead. Humans are such foolish, primitive creatures.” He chuckles darkly before pulling away from your ear and pacing again so he’s in front of you, his dark eyes glued to your face.
Without taking his eyes off you, he speaks to his crew, “We’ll take this one back with us. I’ve always wanted a pet.”
He wickedly smiles at his words and motions for you to follow when he turns on his heels. You hear several fellow villagers sob when they see you leaving your house with the pirates. They must believe that you are about to be killed, and for all you know, their beliefs could be correct, but in your heart, you don’t believe Arlong will slaughter you.
You hope and pray that your instincts are correct.
The walk to Arlong Park isn’t long, and soon you’re in front of the towering structure. You’ve never seen it up close before, and the building’s intense aura washes over you; the once faraway symbol of your oppression was now directly suffocating you.
“Come,” Arlong orders, and you scurry to his side, “This will be your new place of residence. You will eat when I say so and sleep only where I allow.”
“Y-Yes, sir.”
He laughs, “Finally, a human that knows their place.”
He enters the pagoda, and you try to keep up, walking briskly to keep time with his long strides. Arlong leads you upstairs to a rather large bedroom, a bed built for a man of his stature sitting in the middle.
He sits at the edge of the bed and beckons you to come close. You obey without question, standing before him, your hands placed timidly in front of you.
“Remove your clothing,” he commands suddenly, “Make it quick.”
You scramble to remove your top and slide your shorts off your thighs, kicking them to the side. You’re left only in your underwear, your bra never touching your chest today. You hesitate momentarily when your fingers brush over your underwear’s waistband.
“S-Sorry, I’m a bit nervous-“you confess, “No one’s ever seen me naked before-“
“I don’t care about your sentimentality. Although,” Arlong smirks, his eyes raking over your body, “the knowledge that I am the first to lay eyes on you is quite amusing...”
His tone’s clear hunger flusters you, and you slip your panties off, stepping out of them and tossing them aside with your other clothes.
He stands up, towering before you as he looks you over. Without warning, he roughly grabs one of your breasts, causing you to gasp.
“Your breasts barely fill my hand,” he scoffs, squeezing the flesh almost painfully tight, “but what else did I expect? Your body is so pitifully small.”
He huffs and releases you, kneeling before you to examine your exposed pussy. You’re about to cover it up, but Arlong beats you to the punch, using his webbed fingers to spread your lips instead.
“But because you’re so small, I imagine you’ll feel much better around me.”
Your face burns with embarrassment yet anticipation as he slides a finger over your slit. You let out a soft gasp, jolting upright at the touch. He lets out a booming laugh.
“How sensitive!” He mocks you, “I barely graze you, and you jump like a scared cat!”
He removes his hand from your body and stands up, humming to himself, “Yes, I think I’ll make quite good use of you.”
That’s all he says before he walks past you, approaching the door.
You stutter out, “I-Is that all?”
“For now, yes.” Looking over his shoulder, he simply states, “I have more important things that need my attention at the moment.”
And with that, he leaves, slamming the door shut behind him.
You were now left alone in what you assumed were his personal quarters.
And the reality of the situation finally sets in: you were taken as Arlong’s plaything. You would probably never get to go back to your regular life ever again. You had signed yourself, body and soul, over to him.
The thought both terrified and excited you.
___
Days pass, and you slowly adjust to your situation, if only slightly. You don’t see Arlong often, and when you do, he barely acknowledges your presence. You figured the unspoken rule was that only Arlong could treat you poorly if desired and that anyone else injuring or degrading you would end in disaster.
And while you enjoyed their kind treatment, you were still chasing after Arlong’s approval and attention.
You wanted him to want you, desire you, maybe even love you. You felt stupid for even falling for a man like him in the first place, and yet here you were, throwing yourself at his feet like a dog.
You sighed as you thought this over in your bed; life wasn’t terrible here, but you wished things could be different. You had your own room but wished you could sleep in his. He wasn’t abusing you, but you wished you had his praise.
The night drags on, and you lay awake in bed, the sounds of the fishmen drinking and laughing rising from outside to your window. You didn’t attend the party tonight, the smell of alcohol and loud conversations not sounding appealing to you today.
You tried closing your eyes to get some rest, but you weren’t tired.
And your mind suddenly remembers that day.
You remember how he touched you the day he took you in, how he grabbed your breast. Your hand slides up to your chest, squeezing harshly to recreate the feeling. It’s not the same, but the sensation reminds you of that moment.
Your body grows excited at the memory.
You bite your lip as your other hand slips between your legs, teasingly sliding over your clothed slit. A moan bubbles up in your throat, and you don’t bother quieting yourself; everyone is outside at the party, so certainly, they wouldn’t hear you.
You rub slow circles into your clit, your back arching slightly as pleasure runs through your body.
Tired of the teasing, you pull your pajama shorts off your body, your underwear following soon behind, and spread your legs eagerly. As your fingers slide over your slit, you imagine Arlong above you, his fingers teasing your most intimate area.
You slide a finger inside but quickly opt for two, trying to replicate how full his fingers would make you feel.
You finger yourself, curling your fingers upwards to stimulate your g-spot. Your mind goes crazy imagining the dirty things he would say to you, and you move your fingers even faster, mashing your sensitive spot the way you imagined he would.
It doesn’t take long to cum, and you’re embarrassed when you realize the thought of him made you orgasm so quickly.
You pull out your fingers, your cum coating them completely. You go to your personal bathroom and prepare to wash your hands and clean your slit.
But for some reason, you feel as though you’re being watched.
You timidly walk back into your bedroom to check things out and jump as you see Arlong sliding open your bedroom door, inviting himself into your space.
You scramble to cover your exposed lower half with still dirty hands, your cum smearing over your pubic mound as you shield yourself, “A-Arlong- sir! I didn’t know you were back-”
“I heard you made yourself scarce,” Arlong hums in an uncharacteristically soft tone, “Everyone was asking about you.”
“About me?” You point to yourself in disbelief.
“Yes, but…” his eyes rake over you, “now I can see you were occupied…”
You shake your head, “W-What? No-“
“Don’t deny it; I could smell the filthy scent of your arousal before I even entered the room.”
His words send a jolt down your spine. You look away in embarrassment, refusing to look him in the eyes.
Arlong smirks, approaching you slowly, his fingers finding their way around your chin and jerking your head upwards so you would look at him.
His voice lowers, his eyes boring into your soul, “And just what were you imagining that aroused you?”
You stutter, unable to answer him, but Arlong expected that you wouldn’t respond in the first place.
He takes your hand, lifting it up to see the mess you had made moments prior. You want to hide it, but fighting him would only test his patience.
His finger swipes over the cum that covers your digits, the webbed appendage collecting the fluid.
He lifts it up to your lips, demanding, “Open.”
You obey immediately, taking his fingers into your mouth. Your tongue slides against his skin, cleaning his digits as thoroughly as possible.
“Disgusting human,” he smirks, “You’ll even lick your own cum off my fingers- absolutely revolting.”
Your face heats up at his insult, and despite his degrading words, you keep licking, sucking them clean. Hell, you keep sucking even when you know nothing is left on his fingers. And when he growls lowly, you can tell the sight affects him.
“Disgusting human indeed,” he hums, looking down at you in disdain, “Look how you react to the mere taste of my fingers… Do you desire more of me now?”
You nod eagerly, pulling his fingers from your mouth, “I-I want you more than anything. I’ve wanted you for so long-“
He growls at your words yet again and presses his body against yours; however, with his height, his crotch is pressed against your chest.
“Desperate thing. You spend all night with your hands in your panties, yet you still crave more.” Arlong tsks, “But it’s no wonder; you were left with only those small fingers of yours. There’s no way something so small can satisfy anyone, not even a human.”
You whine as his words rile you up, your pussy aching for more stimulation, “N-No, I need something more… m-maybe something that only a man your size could provide...”
“Is that right…?” He chuckles a bit at your words.
Your tongue darts over your lips quickly as you reach for the waistband of his pants. He looks down at you with a glint in his eye and a smug grin. He isn’t stopping you; you take that as a good sign.
And if that wasn’t convincing enough, he even says, “Go ahead, pitiful thing…”
You nod and pull his pants down along with his undergarments and gasp in shock.
You weren’t exactly familiar with the differences between fishmen and human anatomy. Of course, you knew they had gills or lungs that were different from yours; they might have tentacles or webbed fingers or things of that nature, but.. you never thought that something like this would be different.
Your mouth gapes in surprise as you see not one but two appendages between his legs. They’re shaped differently than you anticipated, the shafts slender with a slight curve. After he steps out from the discarded garments, you curiously reach a hand out and grab it, testing how the lengthy appendage feels in your hands.
It’s warm, and you gasp when you see the precum dripping onto your hands; its consistency is watery, and it seems to come out like a faucet. You blush at how it effortlessly lubricates your hands, allowing you to stroke even faster.
As you stroke the cock that is on top, you nearly forget the other shaft until it twitches excitedly, hitting your hand and smearing the cum over your wrist. You hurriedly grab the other cock, trying to stroke both simultaneously.
“Ah, I can barely get my hands around them…” You laugh nervously, “They’re huge-”
Arlong gives a cocky, lop-sided smirk, looking down at you as you struggle to wrap your hands around his two shafts.
“The sight of you struggling is pathetic, but…” You gasp as, in an instant, he grabs you, lifting you in the air, “I can’t deny some part of me finds it rather endearing as well.”
Your face lights up in a bright blush at the surprising praise. Your legs wrap around his waist as he sits on the bed, leaning back until his head hits the pillows. Your body is pressed against his, and you gasp as the slick appendages slide against your thigh.
“Go on and finish what you started,” He growls lowly in a seductive tone, “Prove to me just how badly you need me, and if you do well, I’ll reward you.”
You whimper as he takes your chin in hand, tilting your head so you look directly into his eyes, “Does that sound exciting, little one?”
Your heart stops at what sounds like a term of endearment.
“Y-Yes-” You breathe out, almost in a trance, “Yes, I’ll earn that reward, sir. I’ll do my best.”
“Good,” He hums, “Remove your shirt. I wish to see all of you before we begin…”
You nod and grab the bottom of your shirt, lifting it over your head and off your body.
You leave little kisses in your wake as you crawl down his body. Each kiss shows reverence as you worship his body, your lips trailing from his chest to his stomach and finally to the base of his first cock. When you reach it, you gulp as you ponder how to approach this. You’ve never pleased a man before, and definitely not a man with not one large shaft but two.
But you had to try.
You bite your lip as your hands attempt to wrap around both dicks at the same time. Now that your face is level with them, you realize they’re both larger than your head; you begin to wonder just how they’ll fit if Arlong decides to claim you. Will he be merciful and only fuck you with one?
You abandon the thought as quickly as it came; clearly, he wasn’t the merciful type.
You would have to be able to take both at once.
The idea terrifies and excites you.
Your grip is firm as you begin stroking them, glancing up at him with nervous eyes before your gaze flickers back to the task at hand. You moan softly as you watch his cocks jolt and throb under your touch, your pussy growing wet again as you imagine how they would feel stuffed inside you.
“Don’t keep me waiting,” He growls, but you’re surprised at how soft and affectionate it sounds. It almost sounds like a gentle suggestion instead of a command.
You nod and lean forward, taking one of the cocks into your mouth slowly. You take it a bit farther than you anticipated, but probably because of how tapered the tip is. You bob your head slowly, stroking the rest of the shaft with one hand while your hand continues coaxing precum out of the other.
Arlong hums in appreciation, and you melt when his hand pushes back your hair, encouraging you to keep going.
You switch to the other shaft, attempting to take as much down your throat as possible.
In your overzealous attempt, you gag around his cock, and you grow embarrassed. You pull off instantly and begin profusely apologizing: “I-I’m sorry, sir! I-I really am just as disgusting as you say I-”
He cuts you off, “That’s bound to happen. Keep going until I order you to stop.”
Your eyes widen in surprise; was gagging like that normal? He didn’t seem put off by it at all…
You bite your lip before trying again, this time sucking on the cock that rests above the other. You try pacing yourself for your second deepthroating attempt; even though he wasn’t angry about the gagging sounds, you didn’t want to actually throw up around him.
You slowly bob your head, ensuring both hands are full of him, and begin hollowing your cheeks, attempting to make a tighter hole for his pleasure. You inevitably gag again as his cock hits the back of your throat, but soon enough, it gets easier, and you’re able to take him down even further. You hit the halfway point before deciding not to push your luck, determining this was your limit. Soon enough, you find a rhythm, bobbing your head for some time before pulling off his shaft, your tongue swirling around the tapered head to coax out more precum. Eventually, you switch back and forth between the two dicks, trying your best to give both an equal amount of attention.
As you please him, you can’t help but sneak glances at his face, ensuring he’s enjoying himself.
Each time you look at him, his brows are furrowed as his eyes are shut tight, quiet grunts escaping his throat. Your pussy throbs as he gets more vocal, and you can’t help but to whine around his shaft, voicing your frustrations as your holes feel terribly empty.
Your needy sounds don’t go unnoticed.
“Oh,” he coos, clearly belittling you, “It sounds like you’re growing antsy… Was there something you wanted, little human?”
You pull off his cock with your tongue lolling out of your mouth. You breathe heavily, your eyes pleading as you beg, “Please, sir. I need you in me-”
He gives a cocky smirk, “I’m already in your mouth, and yet you want more? You’re a greedy little thing…”
“Please, I’m begging,” You whine, “I need you inside me- Please, sir, fuck me-!”
He hums, his interest clearly piqued by your desperate begging, “And why do you deserve it, hm? What have you done to deserve such an honor?”
You part your lips to answer, but your mind goes blank.
“Go on,” He puts on the pressure, “Speak.”
You finally stutter, “I don’t deserve them, but I’ll do anything to earn them. I-I’ll swallow all your cum, I-I’ll let you use my body any way you like, just please- please fill me up and fuck me until I can’t think-”
Your face radiates warmth as you realize what you just said; you hadn’t meant to sound so desperate, but god, as your slick drips onto the bed under you, you can’t lie: you really will do anything for him to take you.
Arlong makes an amused little sound; it seems your babbling has caught his interest.
You give one final push, “Please give me a purpose; please let me be useful to you, sir. I’m begging you to use my body- I want to please you- please, let me be a good girl for you-“
“Mm, what a good little human you are,” he hums, his tone patronizing as he looks down at you, “So eager to please… It would be a waste to not take advantage of your devotion and desperation…”
Your eyes light up, and your heart races, excited that he’s finally accepted you.
“Now…” He hums, “How should I take you…”
You shudder as his eyes rake over your body before he motions for you to sit on him. You straddle him and gasp when he holds your hips, his large hands encapsulating your waist. Your heart pounds as he lines one of his cocks up with your pussy, your juices dripping onto him. He laughs a bit when he feels the slick oozing onto him but doesn’t say anything, not about your arousal anyway.
“While I may be a demanding master, I am not heartless…” He says, rubbing the tip of one of his cocks against your entrance, “You’ll take just one first before I add the second…”
Your throat goes dry, but you nod, steadying yourself by planting your hands on his broad chest.
You wince and hiss in pain when he begins to lower you onto his shaft. Even though it’s barely inside you, it already feels like it’s too much to bear. But you attempt to endure it and keep your pained sounds to a minimum, not wanting Arlong to get annoyed by your discomfort.
Your thighs shake, and eventually, you feel his pelvis pressed against your mound. You whimper as you feel completely stuffed, your stomach bulging slightly as he finally sheathes himself within you. A shaky sigh leaves your lips as, for the first time, you’re filled by someone else.
You’re surprised when he doesn’t order you to move immediately, giving you a few moments to adjust.
It’s almost like he actually cares about you.
As you’re seated on top of him, his hands reach out to knead your breasts, his thumbs sliding over your hardened nipples. You whine shamelessly, rocking your hips back and forth as you grind your clit into his pelvis.
“Look at you,” He chuckles, “Rubbing your needy clit against anything you can… I’m starting to think it’s not humans as a whole that are this desperate, but just you in particular.”
Your face burns in shame as he calls out your slutty behavior, but that doesn’t stop you. In fact, it only encourages you to begin riding him, sliding maybe an inch or so upwards before slowly sinking back down. You try to move slowly and carefully as you’re stretched beyond your limits, the pain still stinging as you begin fucking yourself.
And after some time, you release that it actually feels really good-
Your mouth hangs open as you take him with deeper strokes, your hips lifting up to the halfway point before slamming down. Your loud moans and whines fill the room as you fuck him, his cock hitting all the right spots. You begin to drool as his cock slams against your cervix, making your legs feel weak. You start to melt atop him, your thrusts growing sporadic and sloppy.
Arlong tsks as he watches you fall apart, your face nuzzled in his chest as you pathetically grind and frantically slam your hips against his.
“Is this really your best effort?” He teases, “I thought you said you would please me… and yet here you are, only using me for your pleasure. How selfish, little human…”
“I-I’m sorry, sir. I promise I can be useful-” You begin to babble, “I can be a good girl- I can take whatever you give me- fuck me- please- use me-”
Arlong clicks his tongue before gripping your waist and slamming into you on his own. You gasp sharply as he hits your furthest walls and begins his relentless assault.
“You are so pathetic,” He growls, “I’ll just have to fuck into you myself as if you were an object.”
And he does precisely that, his thrusts from below causing your body to jolt and jostle above him. You feel your brain go numb, every thought you could possibly have leaving your head. Your body works purely on instinct, grabbing his shoulders as your face rests on his chest, your drool beginning to leak onto his skin. The sounds of skin smacking against itself fills the room, along with wet squelches.
“I’m so close-” You say dumbly, “Please, let me cum! Please-!”
“Good girl, asking for permission,” He grunts, “Go ahead.”
Your legs shake violently, and your back aches as your cunt squeezes him tight, attempting to milk him. But he doesn’t climax, not yet; You’re the only one reaching that beautiful high, your voice growing raspy as you cry out for him. Your nails dig into his chest and shoulders as you try to grip onto something, anything, to keep you grounded. You feel as though your soul is floating out of your body.
It’s the most intense orgasm you’ve ever had in your life, without a doubt.
As you’re left panting, attempting to recover from the intense experience, Arlong laughs at you; but to your surprise, it’s not malicious. He seems genuinely amused, even proud, at how he caused such a reaction from you.
“Look at you…” He hums, his hands raking over your body, his palms running over your hips and chest before reaching your cheeks, “You’re exhausted, and I’ve hardly begun using you…”
Your body feels limp as he lifts you up, attempting to place you on your hands and knees before him. But you can’t do it; your knees wobble, and your thighs shake as a warning before you fall forward, falling flat on your face. You try to lift yourself up, but even your arms feel boneless.
Arlong lets out an amused sound, “It seems you can no longer hold yourself up… It looks like I will have to support you myself…”
You let out a drawn-out groan as Arlong picks you up like a doll, flipping you around and holding you close to him as he stands beside the bed. Your legs dangle as your thighs are pressed to his sides, one of his shafts poking against your sopping wet entrance.
“I let you off easy earlier,” He whispers, “But you’ve proven that you can handle one, so now you will take both…. I expect that you won’t complain.”
You nodded your head; while you were exhausted, you were also more than eager to cum again. Though, as you feel them both press against your hole, a feeling of uncertainty pokes and prods at you.
But you ignore it.
Arlong is able to lift your body with one hand, balancing you in his palm as if you are weightless. With his other hand, he takes both shafts, lining them up before pressing them both inside.
At first, it isn’t difficult to accept them both; his dicks are tapered at the top, meaning the initial stretch isn’t too bad. But then he keeps pulling you down, inch by inch, penetrating you. You grit your teeth as the feeling nearly feels unbearable, your hole clinging to his shafts as you are stretched more than ever.
You throw your arms around his neck and bury your face into his shoulder, biting your lip as you whine.
Your sounds grow louder as he lifts your hips, guiding you up and down on his cocks. He thrusts into you fast, not giving you time to adjust the way you did before. You feel as though you could split in two, but there’s nowhere else you’d rather be.
You moan desperately into his shoulder, babbling and whining as you’re tossed around like an object. The whole ordeal is so humiliating, but you can’t deny that you are enjoying it all the same.
“I knew you were greedy,” He grunts, “But this is ridiculous; You’re stuffed full, and all you can do is whine and beg for more. You are the most shameless human I’ve ever known.”
Your lip quivers as you try to form words, but your vocal cords fail you; all you can do is whine and moan, clinging tight to his body.
He laughs at your desperation, “Though, it’ll be nice to have a toy so eager to be used. I’ll keep you for quite a while, I imagine..”
He continues his fast and harsh pace, bringing you closer and closer to the edge once more. Your legs quiver, and your body grows terribly hot, sweat building on your skin. You hold your breath as you ready yourself for your climax, the lack of oxygen making your head dizzy. And, in your dazed state, you lift your head and smash your lips against his.
And, to your surprise, he actually kisses you back.
With your lips pressed against his and your fingers tangled in his thick, dark hair, you finally release.
He grunts loudly into your lips, and with one final forceful thrust, you feel your insides flood with warmth. His hips slow, and with your cavern too stuffed for anything else to fit, his cum begins to dribble out of you.
Your lips part, and you stutter, “I-I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to kiss you without your permission!”
He only rolls his eyes, a smirk playing on his lips, “And yet I feel as though you’re only apologizing because you did so without permission, not because you’re actually sorry.”
You avert your eyes, and you feel yourself slowly lowered onto the bed, your back caressed by the soft sheets.
“I will say,” He begins, “I enjoyed your sudden display of boldness; it just shows how excited you were in the moment… I will allow it for now.”
Your eyes widen at his pardon, and you nod slowly, “Thank you, sir.”
“Now, rest easy, little human.” He says quietly, stepping back once you rest entirely on the bed.
“Wait,” You interject, propping yourself on your elbows, “You’re leaving?”
He laughs as if dismissing you, “Were you expecting me to stay with you?”
Your heart feels a pang of pain, and you visibly deflate, clearly disappointed. Of course, this entire thing meant nothing to him, and while you should’ve expected this, it didn’t make it hurt any less. Your eyes trail off, looking down at the edge of the bed as you fill with this indescribable loneliness.
His eyes linger on you for a moment and you can’t help but look up at him, trying to discern why he hasn’t abandoned you yet.
“Most masters don’t sleep in the same beds as their pets. But…” he hums, “I suppose for humans, it is a fairly common occurrence…”
You perk up at his words.
Is he saying what you think he is…?
“I will allow it just this once,” He insists, “But never again, do you understand?”
And that’s good enough for you because you knew owners who insisted on such things never kept their word.

Introduction
Chapter 2
Chapter 1
Evening at the Baratie was as busy as usual. The brunch rush had well started and patrons tumbled in sitting at their designated tables they more likely waited months to get. It was a bit brighter than you would have liked but the booth you're sitting in is just right. Night time was more your speed at the floating restaurant but the waiter from last night had piqued your interest. As an attempt to see him again, you came in a bit earlier.
You sit, cross-legged and slightly impatient, hoping to see a mess of slightly wavy blonde tresses but he never shows. Part of you feels silly for entertaining the idiot but you simply couldn't resist an opportunity like this.
-the night prior-
"Fancy a drink with me after this?" He asks, smiling right back at you as you remove yourself from the booth and stand before him.
Your fingertips dance across the collar of his blazer and you cant help but to flick the hair that falls in front of his face away. He watches, cheeks tinting even darker as you flatten out his attire.
"I fancy far more than a drink.”You tease, circling him as he tries to find the words to respond to your far-from-innocent comment.
The blonde only chuckles in response and tries to fight the smile that creeps over his face. Damn, did you look good walking away.
Your head snaps towards the restaurant entrance as the doors sound as if they not only swing open but are slammed into the wall behind them. The other customers didn’t seem to notice, still enjoying their meals. As a reoccurring customer, you were well aware of the ‘No fighting inside’ rule they followed seeing as you’d watched that same waiter and many others break up a fight before they could even start. You reach for your pick, seeing not one or two, but three fish men that looked far from friendly stop down to the main floor.
If the current customers were paying attention before they were now as the slightly larger one lifted the man who just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time out of his chair and threw him across the dining floor. It would be wise to leave now and you weren’t the only one with the same idea.
However, a sharp and quite threatening, “SIT DOWN” booms returning most to their seat.
Zeff, the man you’d grown quite close with as a reoccurring customer had stepped out amid the commotion, eyeing you and hovering his head a firm shake. If he knew you he knew you’d leave one way or another but this situation was different.
He was well aware of your ability to protect yourself but three against one wasn’t fair and these ‘gentlemen’ seemed far from it. You heed his advice, crossing your legs and sitting back down to sip your drink.
“If you don’t bring me that straw hat by the time I finish my meal, maybe I’ll start adding some of these nice folks to the menu.” He threatened, narrowing his eyes at your defensive frame.
How entitled did you have to be to not only ruin everyone’s meals with this nonsense but threaten to harm them as they are already cowering in fear?
It took less than a few minutes to finish you drink and once you were you had already removed yourself from the booth and was walking toward the exit. A hush falls over the hostages as your heels click against the tile.
“And where are you going?” The fishman who you’d learned was named ‘Arlong’ growls, the two lackeys eyeing you as if you spat at them.
Arlongs patients ran thin with humans if there was even any to begin with. So for you to not only NOT be afraid of who he was and what he could do to you while simultaneously ignoring his threats was enough to piss him off beyond comprehension.
“Leaving, I finished my drink. I thought that was obvious?” You speak, turning on your heel as the screech of the chair sliding on tile makes you stop again.
Reaching for your weapons would give you away too soon. The ice picks were more of a close combat weapon so until you were at the required amount of space, revealing them just to appear big and bad wasn’t wise. It was never really an option to begin with considering being flashy wasn’t your forte.
You were accurate and precise…calculated. That’s what mattered most in a fight. Sure raw talent and strength were great to have but critical thinking skills, common sense, and planning were things that weren’t quite easy to come by.
He’s towering over you now, your eyes scanning the surrounding area as well as his current physical state. If Arlong could throw a grown man damn near 30 feet away he’d surely break you in half without a second thought.
“Don’t you know who I am girl?” He growls, his fists clenched at his sides as you act as if he’s not a threat. It pisses him off more.
“Yeah, I just don’t care.”
He reaches for you, his hands going for your neck but you’re quick to duck, pulling the sliver of metal from your garter. You slice upwards, the point sliding from his ankle to mid-thigh. A hiss leaves his mouth as he tries to reach for you again but you slip between the opening of his two legs left before dragging the needles point down the left side of his back. A gasp leaves your mouth when a second pair of hands snatch you from your current position. Damn it.
Your arms flex and before Alrlong can even raise his fist your feet are off the ground and kicking firmly into his chest. It wasn't enough to fully push him back, just make his scoot maybe an inch back. You take the chance to flip out of your captor's grasp, Legs locking around his neck as you lift your pick.
Air leaves your lungs when you hit the floor of the Baratie and you feel the drink you'd previously finished rise up your throat after a swift kick to the stomach that sent you flying.
"Allow me to make an example. We all know fishermen are superior, but you just don't truly know the extent of that." Arlong growls, lifting you by your hair as you groan, pain shooting through your ribs.
His teeth sink into your shoulder as you thrash, doing anything you can to get him away despite the pain. Your flesh tears open, and the smell of your own blood fills your nose as it slides down your back and arm. A silent scream is stuck in your throat and when he finally decides to tear away a sizeable chunk he drops you, the thudd making patrons flinch.
The restaurant doors burst open for a second time and your heart almost bursts out of your chest when your blonde meets your injured frame. You managed to sit up against a pillar, pulling part of a tablecloth apart to dress your wound.
The straw hat Arlong had been looking for had stepped down, conversing with him briefly as the waiter seemed to pale just looking at you. It must be bad. You flash him a smile forcing yourself to stand as a bang sounds from beside you.
And when Arlong breaks Zeff's leg with a swift yet powerful kick, hell breaks loose.
You force yourself up, grab your picks, and sprint towards one of the two lackeys seeing as the blonde waiter was occupied with the other. You jabbed in his direction, missing by mere inches. A punch to your gut makes you gag and falter, the pain in your ribs shooting to the pain in your shoulder.
You growl, grabbing a discarded fork and jabbing it into the large-lipped fishman's calf. You stand, grabbing him by the collar before stomping your foot over the fork, diving it deeper, tearing a sizeable gash in the process. With a clenched fist, you wind up and punch as hard as your could before landing a final kick to his chest.
“BLONDIE!” You yelp, scrambling to get the waiter on his feet as he groans, his fans gripping his ribs.
Slinging his body partially over your uninjured shoulder, you also groan, limping to the kitchen the double doors whilst the straw hat boy and Arlong had moved outside. His lackeys followed. You sit the blonde down, immediately going back out to help Zeff. Pain shoots through you again as you huff, any adrenaline warns off now and you fight tears.
The kitchen is quiet, only the sound of the waiter's heavy breathing and your own filling it up as Zeff leans wearily in his chair. You whimper, touching the raw and open wound with a warm towel, the color becoming a deep red with every drop of blood it soaked up.
Hot tears slide past your cheeks as you to try and find some sort of reflective surface. The young blonde only limps after you. With steady hands he lifts you onto the counter, being mindful of the obvious injuries you’d earned in the fight.
Despite wishing you were dead instead of in excruciating pain, the action makes your heart flutter. He is much larger than you, his frame wider than you remember. His waist is a lot smaller too, it being seemingly curved and leading right to a pair of thighs you'd managed to lay your eyes on. The veins running up his arms look awfully tempting as they lead right down to a large pair of hands, one adorned with a ring.
His nails are trimmed and surprisingly clean. It's clear he takes care of himself, the smell of cigarettes and spice fills your senses. His lips are moving but you can’t hear any sound and his eyes are so concerned looking at you. Blue....so soft and so blue. His eyes crinkle at the side when he smiles...
“Hm?” You quip, cursing yourself for swooning when he gives you a faint smile.
After rolling up his sleeves, his fingers move along your torso, gently touching your sides as he repeats the question.
“What’s your name darling?”
His voice sounds so much better than you remembered. He's focused, fighting a grimace as he rinsed and rang out the cloth that's now soaked in your blood.
His hands are stained with the color, but so are yours at this point. He returned the towel to your injury, getting a fresh one soaked with warm water before brushing it over the palm of your hand oh so gently.
"Why, you wanna take me out on a date?" You tease, eyes meeting as you both share a smirk. "Well you just helped fight off 3 fishmen all of which were twice your size. I wanna know who I'm thanking for that." He speaks, the gentle caress of the towel stopping when his index finger lifts your chin.
A heavy sigh and grumble forces you to turn away. Zeff was still slumped in the chair watching this whole scene play out and quite frankly hed rather not watch his 'son' flirt with one of his more favorable patrons.
Perhaps the flirting could come to a brief pause. You open your moouth to answer and flip the question but he's already back out the door when someone come yelping for help.
Something about "Luffy" being thrown into the ocean and needing saving?

Folks, I would like to introduce you to a story that quite reminded me of Rafayel.
Nicholas Pipe
Tumblr media
It is based on a folktale called Cola Pesce that originates from Sicily. Cola Pesce has many different versions but I read the picture book by Robert D. San Souci where a half-man and a half-merman Nicholas, and a human girl Margaret fall in love.
Tumblr media
So here is how it begins. Our fishman helping people as a laborer and weather forecaster and our girl watching from afar. Then, they finally talk and...
Tumblr media
THIS!!!! THIS IS THE MOST RAFAYEL AND MC-CODED INTERACTION I HAVE EVER SEEN. I don't even know how to comment on the first sentence without giving the strange screeching sounds. And then comes the second blow: WONDER AND BEAUTY, DANGER AND CRUELTY
Tumblr media
HE SAID MISERABLY. ANGST. ANGST EVERYWHERE.
*ahem*
Then some unfortunate events occur and Nicholas comes close to death.
Tumblr media
Save this, everyone. It's the kind of crème de la crème quote you'd come across in Tumblr's books and literature tags.
Tumblr media
Of course, it has a happily-ever-after ending.
But, let me digress a little bit and remind you that some otome games have epilogues or event stories where you and your LI have children. I WANT MARVELOUS LITTLE FISH BABIES.
So... That's it. Thanks for coming to my TED talk and bearing with my ramblings.

Thank you for the suggestion! I've actually had this idea in my notes for awhile but I wanted to save it for later. PLEASE NOTE, I have not yet watched Fishmen Island so if anything about the mermaid is inaccurate or wrong, I am sorry.
Warnings/Tags:
Not really any romantic tension so you can decide if you want this to be romantic or not.
PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! The reader is a grown adult but just very curious and sheltered, I am in no way making the reader act like a child and romanticizing it! Adults can be curious and sheltered as well

Shanks POV
My crew and I had stopped at an uninhabited island to rest for awhile. Last night we feasted and drank to our hearts content and now I've got the worst hangover.
I made my way to a private and quiet part of the beach away from the crew to try and help this bloody hangover. It was quiet the only sound being the sound of the waves crashing onto the beach. I took off my shoes and sat on the sand, the water just barely touching my feet. Other than the sun, it was peaceful. The chatter of birds, the water, the wind, the pair of eyes staring at me over some rocks... Wait, a pair of eyes staring at me over some rocks!? I looked over at the rocks and yup, there were a pair of eyes peering at me. I called out to the pair of eyes and they disappeared, hiding behind the rocks. I got up to go investigate and when I looked over the rock I was confused, there was nothing, I looked back up and scanned back over the rocks and there were the eyes again, looking over another rock, I went to look over there but once again, they eyes had moved, getting a little frustrated I activated my haki and heard a thud. Whatever this creature is wasn't the strongest if my haki made them pass out. I walked over to where I heard the thud and there, now passed out in a small sea pool lay a mermaid.
My God, it's rare to see a mermaid outside of Fishmen island, especially so far. Maybe they're lost, I probably should wake them up and find out. I started shaking them, not aggressively but hard enough and it worked, they groaned and their eyes started fluttering. Once they were open our eyes met and they froze, I could see them getting ready to try and get away but I grabbed their wrist, "Wait! I'm not going to hurt you. I just wanna talk." I said, trying to sound friendly and reassuring. The mermaid calmed down and now looked at me curiously, "You're not going to attack me?" "No, I have no reason to. I just want to talk" the mermaid smiled at me and I smiled back. "Now tell me, what's a mermaid doing so far away from Fishmen island? It's dangerous for you to be out here." "I ran away. I've lived on fishmen island my whole life and I know nothing about the rest of the world, and my parents refused to tell me anything as well, so I decided that I'm going to discover the world on my own." I put my head on my hand, "You're quite a brave one. Not many mermaids like to leave Fishmen island, usually mermaids like to stay where it's safe and trust me, the ocean isn't that safe" "Well I've had nothing but an amazing time out here! The wide open sea, the fish, the freedom. Oh it's bean great! Although this is the first time I've interacted with a human.." "Oh, well I'm glad to be the first, I'll try and make a good impression~" I have them a small wink. They smiled and moved a little bit closer. They started looking at my body, curiously, looking at my hand, my neck, and any other part that's different from a fishman. I chuckled at their curiosity and let them look further. They tried reaching for my pants and that's where I stopped them, "Sorry sweetheart, that's only for when we know each other really well~" I winked at them and they pulled their hand away
They continued looking at the rest of my body and their eyes landed on my amputated arm, "How did that happen??" they asked curiously. "It was a sea beast." "Sea beast?!" "Yeah, one of my friends got taken by a pirate and I rushed to save them, when I got there, my friend was drowning and a sea beast was swimming right underneath him! I managed to get my boat to him just in time, I pulled him in and made sure he was breathing, but as soon as he woke up, the sea beast shot up out of the water and bit my arm clean off!" the mermaid gasped and clutched onto a rock, "How did you survive an encounter with a sea beast?! They're huge!!!" I chuckled again and leaned closer to them, "I turned around. I looked at the sea beast right in he eyes. And all I said was, 'Get, lost!' and the sea beast fled back into the ocean scared.." the mermaid looked at me with wide star filled eyes, amazed at my story, "No way... You just told the sea beast to get lost and it left?!" I nodded. They gasped again, "You. Are. AMAZING!!!" They shouted, "I've never met anyone that's been able to scare away a sea beast! They usually don't listen to anyone! And then you just tell it to leave and it listens?! That's so cool..." I laughed and patted their head, "Man, pirates are mean. I hope I never run into anyone like them." the mermaid said, I smirked and looked at them in the eyes, "Oh don't say that sweetheart, you hurt my feelings~" I said teasingly. Their eyes widened in shock and realization, "No way, you're a pirate?! Oh my God I'm so sorry! I just thought that... You were just so nice, and I usually hear people say that pirates are mean and evil!" "Don't worry sweetheart, there are some evil pirates, but there are good ones. I try to be one of the better ones." I I gave them a reassuring smile and they smiled back.
"Hey, have you ever thought about being a pirate?" I asked, their expression went to a thoughtful one, "I'm Not sure... Can a mermaid really be a pirate?" "Anyone can be a pirate sweetheart, you just need the spirit and the sense of adventure." the mermaid thought some more and smiled, "You'd really let me join?" "Yeah, you can swim next to our Ship while we sail, we can stop at night so you can rest, and you could even be a secret weapon when we're under attack. How about it? You join my crew and can get to see the world while being protected?" the mermaid thought some more then looked me with a bright smile, "I'd love to!" I smiled back and held out my hand, "Then from this day onwards, you are now apart of the Red Haired pirates and I am your captain, Shanks" we shook hands and it was done, I now had a mermaid on my crew.
"But let's just stay here for a while longer, I still need to work off this hangover" the mermaid giggled and started to swim around while they wait. I put my feet into the water and watched them swim for the rest of the morning.

The Show Must Go On - Pt. 1
Buggy x F!OC
Waitering at Baratie is not a bad life, but that doesn't mean life couldn't be better. That life didn't use to be better.
It's Wednesday evening, and that means entertainment is on the menu for the restaurant's late night diners. She enjoys doing so, truly, but her mood has been spiraling and she's not feeling it today. (Un)fortunately, she is not the only entertainer in the room. And the show must go on.

{PART II}
A/N: For those of you new here, coming in from the OPLA tags: I enjoy writing character driven stories - thus the OC and not a Reader-insert. I am the type of author that gleefully goes through their baggage and holds a yard sale. And Buggy has a lot of baggage.
PS. I know it's no longer the 90s, and this isn't geocities, but please listen 'Party at Baratie' with Buggy's entrance. I promise, it won't disappoint.
Tumblr media
Baratie wasn’t full yet, but it would be by the time the clock struck ten. It always was on Wednesday nights. Shivs cleared the table as the couple rose to shrug on their coats and leave. They were regulars, a fisherman and his wife who liked their baked cod with a generous helping of Zeff’s home ground mustard. More often than not, they brought the fish for their dish. She liked them. They were nice people, quiet people. Baratie’s late night diners tended not to be.
“Ah, a free table.”
Shivs didn’t like the tone of his voice, and never had. “And you are?” she said as she turned around. Even though she knew perfectly well.
“Captain Nezumi of the 16th Branch,” the marine standing behind her said with a huff that made his mouse-like whiskers twitch.
Tall, slim and pointy-faced, he always reminded her distinctly of that rodent. Where’s a cat when you need one, she thought. Shivs crooked an eyebrow, slow and deliberate. “Who?”
“I don’t have to ask who you are,” he hissed, whiskers trilling. “Goji berry red hair, missing eye: short-straw Shivs. A pirate.”
“A waiter.” Shivs wiped down the table. “Reservations go through Xavier.” She raised her hand to alert the maître d’ at the top of the stairs.
“Illegal seaters,” she said as the timid fishman approached them.
“Well, have I never!” she heard Nezumi sputter as she left. Making her way to another table in need of clearing, she was stopped by other regulars — louder regulars. Toby and his crew. Four in all, they were about her own age. She looked at the hand on her elbow, old bruises around the knuckles.
“What is it?” she said as she turned to them and shook it.
“Will there be a show tonight?” Toby grinned, showing off a silver canine through black bangs.
“No, I don’t think so. Can I get you boys anything?”
“It’s Wednesday!” Toby spread his hands in mock disbelief. “There cannot not be a show! We put in real effort to stay sober this long.” The way his grin was lopsided suggested otherwise.
“Tough luck,” Shivs said as she stacked their pint glasses.
A hand around her wrist, the one steadying the glassware. She followed it up his arm and to his face. He’d plastered a preposterous pout on it. “I don’t need luck.”
She considered tugging her wrist, letting him smash the glasses as he pulled her back. And stabbing him in the face with one. “Does that grimace ever work for you?”
Sanji appeared at her side, a tray on his fingertips. “Leave madam alone or I’ll have you lot banned permanently this time.”
Making the smart choice, Toby let go.
“Your drinks, gentlemen,” Sanji said as he took pints from his tray and put them in front of the four pirates. Shivs left while they were distracted. There was not going to be a show tonight, she decided. Fuck them.
At the sudden shouting, followed by a deafening roar and a cackle, Shivs abruptly turned to look behind her. Yet the commotion was up the steps and near the restaurant entrance, where Xavier attempted to calm the motley crowd roused before him. Which included a lion. A large lion with a lilac coat and mane, and red face paint daubed on his snout. Customers seated below had risen to look, too. A woman screamed when the lion roared once more, the sound reverberating through the wooden beams of Baratie’s hull.
“Animals are not allowed inside, good sirs.” Xavier’s nervous voice rose only just above the ruckus.
“Animal? Richie is no mere animal —.”
Shivs squinted, her jaw jutting a little forward. Is that a clown?
“—he is a founding member of my troupe!”
“Richie?” Xavier’s voice pitched as he leafed through his register book. “Oh, ah, he’s on the list. I see. That makes, um, how many?”
“Thirteen.”
“Why yes, of course.” Xavier pushed his glasses up his nose and closed his book. He turned towards the dining room at the bottom of the stairs and caught Shivs’ gaze, motioning her towards the long table in front of the hall’s modest stage.
Taking the hint, Shiv shook out her cloth and went to it.
Xavier coughed for attention, and the few diners that hadn’t been staring up yet turned to do so now. “Captain Buggy,” he announced with sober dignity. “And, hrm. Crew.”
“No. No-no-nono. That is no good!” The blue-haired captain shooed Xavier out of his spot. In red stripes, baggy pants and schmink, he did look like a clown. One that had slept the past week in the bilge. Shivs wondered if he’d reek.
“Spotlight!” He said with a wave of his gloved hand. Benji, the techie that worked the stage lights and curtains during shows, obliged with a nice bright beam, sparkling off the captain’s wide grin. Where the jaunty music came from, Shivs had no idea.
“I am Buggy,” he announced, and it animated his whole face. “Buggy, the Star Clown. Buggy, the Flashy Fool. Buggy, the—.”
“Pirate.”
The music scratched to a stop as Buggy turned on his boot heel to the speaker. It was Nezumi, standing prim with his unit beside the table he’d been denied.
“And your name is?” Buggy pulled a grimace as if he’d found three-day-old cotton candy stuck to his glove. Then it became a grin again, though this time it didn’t reach his eyes. “Nooo, let me guess: Captain Obvious?”
Shivs snorted as a woman in a glittery leotard held up a sign that read ‘laugh’ in gaudy calligraphy, and the diners did.
“My sincere apologies, captain Nezumi,” Xavier said as he ushered the marines away. “But you have no reservation and I must therefore ask you to leave.”
“Toodles!” Buggy said with a little wave.
The spotlight trailed after the marines slinking away, but Buggy snapped his fingers and it promptly returned to him.
“Now, where was I?” He straightened to his full height and adjusted his hat. “Ah yes, I am Buggy!” The music restarted as he flicked out his coat tails behind him and sashayed down the steps, his timing to the tune and his own words impeccable. “Buggy, the Star Clown. Buggy, the Flashy Fool. Buggy, the Genius Jester!” He spread his arms wide as his grin. “Has come to your magnificent establishment with his fabulously flashy troupe!”
Acrobats spilled from behind him, flanking his descent with handstands down the steps and sliding along the curving railings. There was a fire-breather too, causing many ohs and ahs. And the lion, of course, roaring once more.
Shivs gave the table a quick wipe down as they came towards her, spotlight and lion and wide smiles and all. Buggy paused beside her, head cocked, bicorne comically askew.
“What?” she said.
He pouted and pointed at the table. “Missed a spot, candy cane.”
She realised her mistake the moment she leaned forward to look, but he’d already flicked her nose with a cackle. At least the laughter around her sounded forced.
She was going to say something about polishing someone’s overly large nose but didn’t. Up close, she wasn’t so sure it wasn’t real. And she’d glimpsed half a dozen stilettos lining the inside of that tacky fur coat when he bend towards her. No one carried that many unless they knew how to throw them.
Instead, she pulled out the chair at the head of the table for him, and he seemed properly surprised for a moment.
“Such service,” he said as he crossed his long legs and sat down, his grin broad and toothy. She moved her gaze up and narrowly avoided it lingering on his nose. His eyes were as blue as clear ocean skies and framed by impressively long lashes for a man. They batted up at her and that did something. She wondered if the red lipstick covering half his face would smear even further if she kissed him. Wondered if Zeff might actually fire her for it. She had a suspicion this was the ‘special guest’ the old cook had alluded to.
He certainly looked special.
The lion’s grumbled roar drew both their attention.
“There are only twelve seats,” Buggy observed with a note of displeasure.
Xavier all but appeared at his elbow out of nowhere. “Apologies, truly. Perhaps, a divan for the noble beast?”
Buggy glanced at Richie, who sat down with a plop like an overly large dog. He motioned between his own and the seat of a man in a poorly done bear costume. Or was that meant to be a lion also?
“Put it here,” he said, then turned to Shivs, an edge of teeth peeking through his red smile. “Honey cake, the menu?”
“I’ll fetch the chef,” she said. “Would you like something to wet your tongue, in the mean time?”
“North Blue gin?”
She’d somehow expected him to order a cocktail. “Not something sweet?”
His grin managed to split wider yet as his blue eyes flicked down and up. “Are you ‘something sweet’?”
“No.”
He winked and clicked his tongue for emphasis. “Then no.”
“A’right,” Shivs said and made her way back to the galley at the rear of the restaurant. She spotted Zeff by the stove, tasting a creamy-looking soup.
“Needs more oregano,” the old chef muttered under his breath.
“A whole damn circus just arrived,” she said as she walked up to him.
“Ah, good, I was expecting him.” Zeff put the soup ladle down and he turned to her. “Pirate captain. His name is Buggy—.”
“—the clown,” Shivs finished with a chortle. “The face paint gave the surprise away. You know him?”
“We met, briefly. Long time ago,” he brushed her question aside as he wiped his hands on a dishcloth.
“Haven’t seen his mug on paper?” she said. Though that in and of itself wasn’t so strange. Zeff kept Baratie free of that sort of tacky wallpaper. Those who knew, knew. Those who didn’t, dined none the wiser. And she hadn’t left Baratie in… some time.
“It graces a few towns and forts, I imagine,” he said with a smile. “Though probably not as many as he’d like.”
Yes, that ego had been hard to miss. Shivs tilted her head. “How much is his bounty?”
“Twelve million, last print I saw? Probably gone up since then.”
“That’s not bad for the East Blue,” she said, actually surprised. He must have some tricks up his sleeves. It made her think of the knives. And those cheeky blue eyes batting up at her. “Xavier seated them at the oval table. Asked for the menu, told him I’d fetch the chef.”
“Is that so?” Zeff chuckled. “I best get to them then.”
“Zeff.”
The chef paused halfway moving past her.
“I am not performing,” Shivs said. “Not tonight.”
He turned back to her, a frown drawing his bushy eyebrows down. “You like doing it?”
She set her jaw. “If you want a show, ask the clown. I’m sure, if you ask plenty nicely, he’ll have his whole freakshow up on the tables in no time.”
Zeff gave her a fond look. “Our Wednesday guests come for you.”
“No doubt he has some in his troupe as well, if that’s what they want to see.”
“If you want to become better at it, you’ll have to practice.” Humour sparkled in the old pirate chef’s eyes. “Maybe you can get some professional critique, huh?”
From a clown? Her thoughts scoffed. Although, he did have all those knives. People weren’t always 'one act' wonders.
She pursed her lips. “Fine.”
“Atta girl.” He gave her shoulder a good squeeze and a little shake. “Can you start on the dishes until then?”
“Sure.”
By the time ten o’clock came around, Baratie was packed. It always was on Wednesday nights. Shivs had taken off the blouse she wore under her waiter’s vest. This way, she had better freedom of movement. She removed the scarf she wore around her throat and tied up her red hair in a bun. Then adjusted the diving knife in her left boot, concealing it from view.
Coming out of the employee’s toilet and left around the stage from the back, she saw Xavier already stood upon the planks limed in the light of Benji’s spotlight.
“Dear ladies, honoured gentlemen,” Xavier said with solemn dignity. The diners quieted as the lights in the hall dimmed and the spotlight brightened, setting a shimmer to the maître d’s well-manicured scales. “May I introduce to you—.”
“BoooOOOooo!”
Buggy, hands touted beside his mouth like a megaphone as he rose from his seat.
“Sir!” Xavier admonished at the blatant breach of proper etiquette.
The spotlight jumped to the clown, who stood in it like a flower turning towards the sun.
You really love yourself limed in stage lights, don’t you? Shivs thought, standing in the shadows off-stage.
“This is not a show,” Buggy said in a tone as if a great offence had been committed. He spread his arms wide. “This is a farce!”
Before anyone could stop him, he’d hopped on stage, the spotlight kissing his heels. He blatantly stepped in front of Xavier and turned to the diners.
“Grand folk! Welcome, welcome!” he proclaimed with animated gestures — he talked with his whole body. “Tonight, you will have the rare pleasure, the absolute singular privilege, of being the very first to witness Buggy’s Astoundingly Flashy Impromptu Diner Show!”
The lights did a little colour switching dance at his last words. Benji was having fun, at least.
The dinner guests applauded even before the woman held up her sign. Visibly delighted, Buggy turned to Shivs. “You need an introducing act, caramel popsicle.” He beckoned in the direction of his crew without breaking his gaze away. “Cabaji!”
A lanky young adult rose, followed by several fellows. Acrobats and jugglers, turned out. The diners liked it well enough, but the applause was notably less than before. Shivs frowned at the flicker of irritation flitting under the surface of Buggy’s expression the split second before his perpetual grin reasserted itself.
“Next, all the way from the deep, dark South Blue,” Buggy announced, his tone low and dangerous. “A true wild beast, a known man-eater!”
The audience gasped unprompted as the lion came onto the stage with a great roar, the man in the poorly made suit in its wake. Its handler, Shivs supposed.
An elderly lady at a front table, attired in a fabulously expensive appearing gown, waved her fan all but on the brink of fainting.
“Fear not, sweetest of candied apples,” Buggy said, leaning forward from the stage to take her hand and allow for a dramatic pause. He kissed the air just above her silken glove. “Fear not. For the monster is no more.” He rose, spreading his arms as he turned towards the lion while addressing the diners: “He is now Richie, the dancing lion!”
And, sure enough, at a prompt of his handler, the lion rose on its hind legs and danced. It stepped from one paw unto the other, side step here, side step there, turning in a circle and pawing with a front leg punctuated by a much sweeter roar.
The applause was genuine and excellent as the lion sat down with a plop and yawned.
“And now~,” Buggy started.
“FuCk oFF!”
Toby, from somewhere in the rear. Shivs saw Buggy’s hand twitch at his interruption and knew what that meant. Short fuse.
“I am here to see my girl!” Toby added, supported by the hoots of his friends.
Buggy glanced at her and she made a puking face that returned a grin to his. He beckoned her and as she climbed on stage; she resisted the urge to ask if his act was throwing knives, perhaps? But only just. She had about reached his side when Toby opened his mouth again.
“Nobody is here to see your ugly mug, you red-nosed freak!”
Buggy froze.
His crew shrank away.
And those were all the tells Shivs needed, really.
“What did you say…?” Buggy said as he turned slowly towards the audience, a wink of spotlight along concealed blades as his coat shifted with his movement.
“Captain Buggy!” His blue eyes snapped unto her and she held them. “It is time for my act now, isn’t it? It’s been such a wait, is it my turn finally?”
“It is!” he said and his grin split to show teeth again. “It is time!” Buggy spread his arms in sweeping gestures towards her. “For the one, and only, fabulously flashy~!”
He leaned towards her, his tone and mime overacted confusion. “I didn’t catch your name, popcorn pop?”
The audience laughed.
“Shivs,” Shivs said.
He made a comically stabby gesture, and she chuckled despite herself, and the audience with her. “Yes, just like those.”
“The Superbly Spectacular Shivs!” Buggy concluded with a sweeping arch of his arms. The spotlight jumped on her as gold foil poppers showered her in glimmering sparkles and the audience clapped.
He turned to her, his smile all tooth and wide as an oar. “What is your act?”
Not what you think, she thought at the sparkle of cheek in his blue eyes. Instead of an answer, Shivs lifted her left foot slowly, and drew the arm length diving knife from her boot. She flipped and caught it midair, holding it now by the hilt, the blade tip down. Stretching her arm, she lifted it above her head, never breaking their gaze until she had to.
Shivs stretched, straightened and tipped her head back, aligning her esophagus with her spine. She took a deep breath, then let it escape as she slid the blade down her throat. Unblinking, she held her breath and watched the hilt approach. When she felt the short crossguard rest on both corners of her mouth, she let go of the hilt and spread her hands.
Applause exploded from the audience as she turned a full circle, showing a bare neck all around.
She retrieved the blade with care and bowed.
Rising, Shivs glanced at Buggy and saw his eyes were positively gleaming. He clapped no less excitedly than the diners.
“Encore!” an elderly man called as he rose while vigorously clapping, and the call was taken up by the others.
“The audience wants more,” Buggy said, chuffed as if he’d done it himself.
“This is all I can do.”
“No no, that’s no good,” he said with a click of his tongue. “The show must go on.”
Buggy turned to the audience. “Do you want to see the Stunningly Flashy Shivs swallow another blade?” he asked, and the response was unfortunately deafening. “Or two?!”
“Are you insane?” she hissed, grabbing his sleeve.
Buggy turned to her, smiling wide as ever.
And out came the knives.
Four stilettos, similar in type if not in make, precisely. He held the hilts clenched between the fingers of one fist.
“Pick any two.”
This was a terrible idea. She hadn’t done double blades before. His knives were shorter and thinner than her own blade, sure. But multiple meant more insertion time, a longer breath.
Sword-swallowers fucked up only once.
She picked the two that seemed most similar, digging the hilts from between his fingers. She weighed them, one in each hand, gauging their balance.
Then held them up to the audience, eliciting a few encouraging cheers.
She flinched at the twin ‘thunk’ of Buggy throwing the remaining two into the stage’s floorboard. “No foldables here,” he assured the diners, who held onto his every word with baited breaths.
There were many people. Familiar, unfamiliar. Sitting, shifting, fidgeting. She turned to Buggy, training her gaze on him. No distractions. Easier to focus on one face than on a crowd. His expression was eager, his mouth a fraction open. She could see an edge of teeth, the tip of his tongue.
This better not be the image I am taking with me to the grave, she thought as she tilted her head and rolled her eyes at the ceiling. She flipped one stiletto, then the other, bringing the tips up above her head.
She closed her eyes.
Banished that look on his face.
Focus.
She steadied herself, breathing in time with her heartbeat. One deep breath. Two deep breaths. On the third, she blew out and let one stiletto slide down her throat.
4… 5… 6… So far, so good. No new trick, this. But now for the second one, and no deflation to aid the ease of passage.
9…10… She guided it along the blade of the first, counting her heartbeats since breathing out.
15…16…17… The slow heat of suffocation started its ascend from within her chest.
24…25… The second crossguard joined the first. Sweat beaded on her forehead. The applause came from miles away as she spread her trembling hands.
28…29…30… She turned on her heels for an eternity.
32…33…34… Her vision tunnelled as she grabbed their hilts. Her throat shifted, her tongue twitching backward.
And then they were out, and she drew in the breath of the drowning, great gulps of it as she blinked stars from her eyes.
They focussed on Buggy.
His eyebrows had drawn up into a pout, but cotton candy clouds drifted past his wide blue eyes. Her gaze dodged his nose and landed on his mouth. He was biting his bottom lip. Her eyes flicked down, but his baggy pants and sash revealed nothing, or hid everything.
She flipped the stilettos and held them hilt first out to him. “These are yours.”
He snapped out of it with a smile, taking them off her hands and bending down to fetch the ones sunk into the floorboards.
Shivs pursed her lips, watching his butt shift. It was only fair, that look on his face had been a whole lot of something. Stupid clown.
He farewelled the show with the same flourish and drama he’d initiated it. The spotlight dimmed, the curtains closed, and the audience applauded one final time.
“That was more than perfect cherry tootsie,” Buggy beamed as they walked off-stage.
“I regret everything,” Shivs said. A slow, pulsing headache whined at the back of her neck. Her throat was sore. She hoped she hadn’t nicked anything.
Buggy’s face fell faster than the curtains at her words. “You are a talent, a natural, unique,” he said, all hands and exaggerated encouragements as he spoke. “You will be great one day, the greatest! Famous! Performing on the Grand Line, in the New World!”
He was right in front of her now, all but nose to nose. “You are a class act. You are one of a kind. You are—.”
“—in pain.”
“Chocolate toffee you must rest,” he said in a tone people usually got before launching into a hug or some other type of physical reassurance. It never came. He just looked at her with a concerned pout and held his own hands.
She smiled weakly. “I’ll live.”
“You must,” he grinned, then produced a shimmering golden ticket from an inside pocket of his coat. He held it between two fingers and out to her. “You should join my crew.”
“I’ll think about it,” Shivs said as she took the card without really looking at it, and out of politeness more than anything. Short fuse.
She watched him leave with a spring in his step.
It was a long while before the last diners had left, and longer still until the gold confetti had been cleaned up. Shivs sat at the bar, broom leaned against the stool beside her. Baratie was presentable once more. There was a pile of dishes, but those could wait till tomorrow. The ticket Buggy had given her laid on the bar beside her glass of water. It was a gaudy, gold foil iteration of an old-timey circus entrance pass. The front was graced by a red-nosed Jolly Roger, and the back told her on which slip the ship was docked and when they’d leave. Big Top, slip 9. Tomorrow, at 07:00. She’d smiled at the name, wondering if it would look as ridiculous as its captain. Probably.
“Saw you talk,” Zeff said.
Shivs spooked out of her thoughts at his words, not having heard him approach. He stood beside her, drying the last of the pint glasses.
“Any good feedback?”
She pinned the ticket with her middle finger and slid it towards him across the bar. Zeff put the glass down, the dish cloth across his shoulder, and wiped his hands before picking it up.
“Asked you to join his crew?” he said as he read the ticket.
“Hah. Told me to join his crew, more like.”
Zeff handed it back to her. “Will you?”
Shivs wound the ticket around her finger, making the foil crinkle and crackle in the silence. She ran her tongue past her teeth.
“No.”
The short word sounded dry and definitive.
“No,” she repeated as she shook her head and let the ticket unfurl from her finger and fall onto the bar. “He’s weird and pushy.”
“He’s an odd one.” Zeff set the broom aside and sat on the barstool beside her. “Though all pirate captains are, this old cook included.” There was humour in his tone. “The sea gets peculiar with you, you know this.”
She bit the inside of her cheek. It’d been years since she had sailed. She’d thought it would have been different, that last time. That their bond would have mattered. She pulled a stray bang free and watched the red strands slip through her fingers. You pushed your will with smiles, but pushed it all the same.
Zeff gave her a gentle nudge. “He asked you to join his crew, not to marry him.”
Privately, she wasn’t so sure all of them understood the distinction. She did miss the ocean. Baratie was ever at sea, but it was not the same. She realised, she’d held out hope he’d come back. Even though he had told her — 'I am not coming back.'
It made her angry. Angry with him, for leaving. Angry with herself, for. For what? Defaulting to existing instead of living?
Zeff observed her in silence.
“I like my life,” she said. “Here, with you and Sanji. The restaurant, our guests. It’s nice.” And it was, and she refused to be ungrateful. To just… leave.
“Your dream is not becoming a cook,” Zeff said as he tried to catch her gaze. “You’re young yet. You enjoyed being a pirate.”
Shivs looked at the ticket, wrinkled but shining no less for it.
“What is your dream?” he asked gently.
To not be miserable, she thought, then shrugged, half-heartedly. “Swallow the biggest sword on the Grand Line, I guess.”
That drew a chuckle from the old cook. “You are still a pirate, and you want to become the best sword-swallower across the Blue.” His gaze flicked from her to the ticket and back. “Sounds to me, this is the crew to be.”
12 million, she thought. It was not nothing, but. “I don’t want to tie myself to an anchor thrown into the East Blue.”
“You know, I once met a captain along the Grand Line while searching for the All Blue.” Amusement tugged at the corner of Zeff's lips. “Decent fellow, solid crew. Though I distinctly remember being mouthed off by someone with a red nose.”
Shivs cocked her head. “He’s sailed the Grand Line? Under whom?”
“A good captain. Went before his time, really.” Zeff’s face clouded with sorrow. “Famous now only for his last words and lost treasure.”
Shivs speared the ticket with a finger. “That’s a former Roger pirate?” Impossible. “He can’t be that old.” He was maybe a few years older than her, tops. “He’d have been—.”
Zeff smiled. “—half as tall as he is now.”
Shivs sat back, crossing her arms. Thinking.
“Why would he leave the Grand Line?”
Now it was Zeff who shrugged. “Ask him?”
“That’ll go over well, I am sure,” Shivs huffed, amused despite herself. Hi, why did you tail it out of the Grand Line? Oh, it was embarrassing? Oops. No, not bloody likely that she’d ask.
Zeff observed her for a moment, then said: “Will you be skipping breakfast, tomorrow?”
Shivs glanced at the ticket. The ship, the slip, the time. She smoothed the creases out of the jolly Roger, running a finger right across its big red nose.
“I’ll think about it.”
Zeff patted her shoulder and rose. “You do that, girl.”
Shivs watched him leave, listened to the tap of his peg-leg receding. Then rose, crumpled the ticket and threw it on the ground.

-
They were two days at sea chasing the fleet that held Doflamingo, and they were having trouble gaining ground. There was time to intercept them– it was no brief journey, but the weather hadn't been good and it delayed their ship more than it delayed the marines.
Sitting in the sparely stocked galley of the ship, Trebol leaned toward Violet in his chair. "Have you heard them talking about stopping at the G5 before continuing to Impel Down?"
Violet’s eyes were staring somewhere far, far away as she held her fingers to them. Despite their delays, the Marine ships were still within her range…a small blessing given the repeated setbacks.
“There’s a debate about it among the admiral and his subordinates. There’s concerns of it being a security risk being weighed against the need for rations and supplies to cross back towards Impel Down.”
He tapped his fingers on his knees, his mouth a thin line as he concentrated. "If they are going to stop– which seems likely– we'll cut time if we adjust our course before they do. But if we do so and they head straight for Mary Geoise…."
“Then they’ll be able to slip past while we waste precious time trying to get through Fishman Island.” Violet lowered her fingers to look him in the eyes with a pensive frown.
The odds of them catching up if the Marines took their easy high road through Mary Geoise were low. They had too many shortcuts that were now very much unavailable to her now that the outcry had risen in her homeland as yet another of their princesses went ‘missing’.
Sneaking through Mary Geoise would be a suicide mission. “It’s a gamble, Tre.”
"Not one I'm looking forward to putting my chips down on, I'm afraid," he drawled, nervously adjusting the lapels of his heavy coat. "But any decision is better than no decision with time at a premium. I'll get Vergo's opinion, and then we'll make our play."
“Sounds good.” She nodded. “I’ll be keeping an eye on the marines. If the stalemate’s broken in our favor, you’ll be the first to know. They can’t float in indecision forever.”
It was familiar, these sorts of back and forths. Trebol was a man who knew the strengths of her power and how to use them. During their days in Dressrosa, there were many times just like this where she’d scry with her eyes and help the Donquixote’s resident strategist conjure plans of attack and subterfuge.
Trebol was a man who knew how to assess and understand data, and collate it from many sources into a coherent structure. To say that he was the real power behind Doflamingo would not be strictly true, but to remove him would be like cutting out Doffy's remaining eye.
She was about to continue when the door slammed open to a high and cheerful voice sing-songing out through the galley.
“Tre-tre~ Vi-Vi~~~” Derringer , the deadly fighting fish, cried out as he clacked his way into the room on spiked heels. “Guess who’s got news!”
Trebol raised his head, turning to give a questioning look to Derriger as he made his way into the galley. "I think the smart money's on you, Derringer, mmm?"
The effeminate young man placed his hand on his hip as he leaned forward with a sharp-toothed grin. “Ding ding! You win!”
Violet leaned on her hand with a tilt of her head “well? What did we win?”
“In-for-ma-tion~ Something I bet you haven’t even gotten yet, Violet!” he pointed “another ship’s been sighted in the vicinity of the marine ship, barrelling down on Mary Geoise!”
This got Trebol's attention, and he sat yet further forward in his chair, stroking his beard.
"Another ship? Do you have any details?"
This could certainly be good news or bad. But given how excited Derringer sounded, it probably at least wasn't another marine ship. Probably, anyway. Derringer was pretty excitable.
“The news must not have filtered up to the Admiral yet,” Violet mused almost to herself.
“Well yeah, this is hot, breaking news.” Derringer giggled again. “if the reports from their scouts are to be believed, it’s the old alligator’s ship!”
“A…” Viola’s brow furrowed “Alligator? You don’t mean..”
"Sir Crocodile?" Trebol's pince-nez slid down his nose and he pushed them back up. "You're not joking, are you?"
“Awww, you don’t believe me?” Derringer pouted before pressing his hand up and into the golden locks of his hair. “Geeze, Tre, you’re so hard to please.”
Violet circled her fingers and activated her power again, peering in the direction of the marine ship as quick as she could. “Sir Crocodile is headed to Mary Geoise? But why??”
"I do believe you, Derringer, it's simply quite surprising news. And possibly in our favor," Trebol mused. "I can imagine only two reasons he'd appear to be heading to Mary Geoise."
Her vision projected outwards…both here in the room with them, and leagues away over the sea. “One is to wage some sort of attack….and the other is to intercept the prison ship. Right Trebol?”
Derringer puffed his cheeks, something she was only dimly aware of. “So did I do good?”
"You did very good, Derringer," Trebol promised. He reached out and patted the young, flashy member of the family on the head. "Thank you."
Violet was only dimly aware of the interaction as her senses went elsewhere, to the deck of another ship.
Sir Crocodile looked pensive, checking and double checking an eternal pose. He looked up, and for a moment, before Violet adjusted her vision, it was like he was staring right at her.
But then she saw who he was really looking at. A rather beautiful looking man with sharp cheekbones and defined makeup.
"I don't ask you to walk back in there lightly, Bentham," Crocodile growled around his cigar. "But if we don't catch up to them in time, you're the back up plan."As she listened, she relayed the information to Trebol, her concentration otherwise locked on the scene far away.
“Sir Crocodile is talking with someone named Bentham. He says if ‘we can’t catch up to them in time’ that he’s the back up plan to break into somewhere.”
Trebol stroked his beard, listening as she relayed the information.
"Croc, baby, darling, I'm not excited for another stroll into Impel Down, but if your Doffy is as impressive as his reputation, I can see why you'd want him at large instead of shut up by the government."“He’s attempting to rescue Doffy,” Violet’s heart skipped a beat as her eyes widened and for a moment sent her vision on the deck out of focus before she snapped back into the scene between the former Warlord and the man. “If he can’t intercept the ship, he’s sending this Bentham guy into Impel Down to break him out.”
She heard Derringer whistle, impressed “I didn’t know Alligator cared! That’s big news for us, right?”
Trebol broke out into a toothy grin, and slapped his knee. "It's big news for us, yes. Fantastic news. We'll divert to G5 and cut them off there– and if they head straight for Mary Geoise then Crocodile can wrestle with them. I don't trust the man as far as I could throw him but it'll be easier to get Doffy back from him than from Impel Down if it comes to it."
Violet nodded firmly as she felt a grin spread across her own face. “Aye aye. We’ll have our helmsman set course for G5! I have a feeling we’ll win this gamble, Tre. A hunch.”
“Oooh~” Derringer perked up. “Scary! Will I get to kill some marines?”
Trebol laughed.
"Perhaps you will. If not, I'm sure we can scrounge some up for you to play with in celebration. We're no longer bending the knee to the government after all." He turned his head to her. "You look almost as excited as Derringer, Vi."
Her vision snapped back to the here and now, and she turned to face him with lidded eyes and the grin she didn’t even try to repress.
“Can you blame me, Trebol?”
"Oh no, not at all," he purred with a rather smug smile. "I know you're just as eager as the rest of us."
She had the good grace to feel a little flustered about that, folding her hands under her chin and leaning on them with a wink. “you know better than most how well I took to the life..I–”
Suddenly she was rocked forward by the weight of Derringer as he tackle-hugged her from behind.
“Awwww! Vi-vi~ You’re a natural born killer just like the rest of us! Of course you’re all excited by the smell of blood in the water!” It was punctuated by his tittering little giggle once again.
Trebol smiled slyly at the scene. "Always nice to see the family getting along so well. Now– let's get into action."
000
Baby 5’s talent for assassination and penchant for violence weren’t useless on the current mission. Far from it, once they caught up to the bastards hauling Doffy away she’d get her chance to blow them all right back to Mary Geoice in a bunch of tiny little pieces.
But that was when they arrived. So until then she had to make do with the skills that were useful. As good as she was at killing, she wasn’t a half bad cook either. In fact, when it came to cooking and cleaning, she considered herself the best the Family had to frickin’ offer.
She’d taken the galley of the ship for her own, starting up a stew with the few supplies they’d managed to haul onto the ship before their madcap flight out of Dressrosa. She didn’t stop (she couldn’t stop) putting her all into it if it meant giving the crew the strength they needed to save Doffy from the navy’s filthy hands.
She couldn’t believe that they were actually doing it, chasing down the navy itself to save him after their world fell to pieces around them. She’d liked Dressrosa. It suited her temperament, even if Dofy kept killing anyone who tried sliding into her life with a request or marriage proposal. But all good things had to come to an end, right? Dressrosa went up in smoke for the Donquixote Pirates, stabbed in the back by two of their own. Law…Law was not going to be forgiven any time soon.
Her brother, her peer, welcomed into the family right alongside her only to push her aside as if she meant nothing while he tore the young master’s life to shreds.
And Violet. Violet who she had hated in the flaring moment of emotion when she turned her back on them for her jackass birth family– but who had come back despite her victory and offered to save them all.
When she thought about it, she found herself cutting vegetables even faster with her transformed arm.
"How small you planning to cut those, Baby 5?" a familiar voice drawled behind her.
“Until they frickin’ disappear in the broth.” She grumbled sharply before looking over her shoulder, her dark hair fallen in her face. “hey Di.”
He put his hand heavily on her shoulder, looking at her with a tense expression. "You look like you've been at that a while. I'm gonna need you to take a break with me, alright?"
“Ghhh…” She felt the old urge welling within her. He’d made a pretty firm request after all– it’d make him happy if she complied…
She shook her hand as it transformed back to its human state and sighed “alright, alright…you need me to, right?”
He squeezed her shoulder. "I'm getting tired just looking at you chopping those veggies," he chuckled. "I need you to take a break."
It was like a lance through her. He needs me. He needs me to take a break so I don’t overwork. She gripped the side of the counter before she turned and snapped a salute to him with a wide grin. “You know I’m always happy to help, Di! I’ll take a little break. The stew needs to simmer a while anyway!”
He slapped her companionably on the back, and took out his cigarettes. "Good girl. Pull up a chair. Wanna share a smoke with me?"
“You’re speaking my language!” She laughed as she kicked a chair over towards him, and went to grab one herself. “I’ve been trying not to chain through mine too fast. Dunno how long we’re gonna be on the sea.”
He grabbed the back of the chair as it spun toward him and stepped over it to sit down. "Probably smart. I got a bag of tobacco with me so I can roll em if we get desperate but," he shook his head. "I hope it ain't gonna be too long."
He pulled a cigarette out and offered it to her.
“Me neither…” She grabbed the cigarette and stuck it between her lips. It was one of her earliest vices…and absolutely her favorite of the bunch.
“You don’t think it’ll be too long till we catch up to Doffy, right?”
"Doesn't look like it." He leaned forward and lit her up with a flick of his lighter. "Apparently, we've got some unexpected help. Well. More unexpected help."
“You’re talking about Violet, right?” Baby 5 asked. “or…is there something else I’m missing?”
"Violet's unexpected help," he said. "But she's already accounted for. The more unexpected help is apparently Crocodile's coming after Doffy too."
Baby’s dark eyes widened as she took a puff of her cigarette. “you’re shittin’ me! Sir Crocodile of the Warlords? Mr. ‘Alabasta’s Dark Hero’? He’s on his way to save Doffy??”
Diamante grinned, cupping his hand around his own cigarette as he lit it. "Yep. Derringer caught it on the radio chatter, and Vi confirmed it."
She whistled low under her breath.
“Oh that’s useful to know…he’s gonna be a big help if he’s really after the young master…” She rolled her cigarette between her fingers before she asked. “Is he hot? Sir Crocodile, I mean. I’ve seen the wanted poster and all but…”
Diamante choked on his cigarette and pulled it out of his mouth, coughing into his hand. "Sir Crocodile? Is he hot? Uh…"
Baby 5 couldn't help but notice he'd gotten a bit red. Maybe it was all the coughing.
Her smile crept over her face. “So that’s a yes, right?”
Di rubbed the back of his neck. "I mean, I wouldn't say he's exactly my type, but I guess he's pretty good looking, yeah."
Baby 5 took a long drag off her cigarette before she said. “Good to know. If he helps us save the young master, I might just see if he ‘needs me’ for a night. As thanks.”
"Glllh…. Baby 5, you can't just–" he dragged his hand down his face with exasperation for a moment before realization started to dawn. "You're just trying to work me up, aren't you?"
She laughed loudly as her hand slapped against the arm of the chair. “Gotcha, Di!” She giggled with a broad grin, leaning on her hand. “worked, didn’t it?”
He waved his hand, grinning bashfully now. "Yeah, yeah it worked, it worked."
Baby 5 chuckled as she took a slow drag off her cigarette and tipped her chair back on its legs to look at the ceiling. “I’m just trying to have some fun. It’s been…it’s been emotional, hasn’t it? Losing Dressrosa, losing the young master…Violet betraying us and comin’ back.”
"It's had its ups and downs, that's for sure," he rasped, shaking his head. "I sure didn't see… any of it. I guess it could have gone worse, but not by much."
“You think she’s really gonna stay with us?” Baby 5 asked, not caring that she could be listening in from anywhere. “...I don’t think I could stand it if she left again.”
He sighed, and took a puff off his cigarette. "Yeah, me neither. Don't think any of us could. There'd be bloodshed, one way or another."
The door creaked open, drawing Baby’s attention instantly as her reply froze on her lips “There sure would be, but I’ll be real I’m ti—”
Violet herself peeked her head in. “...I came to see what smelt so good now that I’m out of my meeting with Tre.”
"Hey Vi," Diamante nodded, toward her. He gestured toward Baby 5 with his cigarette. "Baby's cookin."
Baby 5 snorted softly as she tapped her cigarette over the edge of her chair’s arm. “right now I’m resting, actually.”
Violet slipped inside, and Baby couldn’t help but stare. Violet was one of her closest friends in the organization, right up there with Buffalo and Sugar. She’d shared great times and bad with the family…Baby thought she’d needed them as much as they needed her.
It stung when she seemed to prove them wrong– she went crawling back to the Rikus, proving that maybe she never needed them at all.
The dancer– the assassin– .pulled up a chair and took a seat. “Whatever you’re doing, it’s making me hungry.”
"Me too," Diamante nodded. He glanced over Baby 5's way, perhaps recognizing her discomfort. "Haven't had a big family meal in a while, and probably can't have one now. But Baby's stews smells pretty good, eh?"
But she still came back, didn’t she? She should have been walking on air, living that perfect princess life that people talked about even in the dregs of the world they’d all grown up in. But when she came back to them she looked more miserable than ever…and even genuinely relieved when she was welcomed back into the family.
It was enough to make Baby’s head spin.
“It smells delicious.” Violet leaned on her hand with a smile, her intense eyes seeming to see right through Baby to her deepest thoughts. “I always did love your cooking, Baby. If we’ve got you as the ship cook for this little adventure I don’t need to worry.”
Baby smiled, almost timid with the praise, and rubbed the back of her neck “awwww, don’t butter me up. It’s just a stew. You could do it easy!”
“Not really.” Violet chuckled. “...I wasn’t exactly taught.”
"Could always learn now, ya think?" Di offered, and Baby followed up on with a grin.
“Come on, Vi! It’ll be thanks for that time you taught me to dance.”
It was a good memory, one of the many she’d had with her fellow assassin. It’d been after one of the family’s big celebratory parties, years ago now. It was the first time that Baby had seen Violet open up and smile, instead of curl ever further inwards during those early months with the family.
Violet shifted to watch her with a strange smile for a moment. “As thanks, hm? Well how could I say no to that?”
"Wouldn't be very polite to, now would it?" Di chuckled.
“And I’ve had enough being impolite to my family here,” Violet purred in her warm, low voice. “So Baby 5…give it your all. I’m ready to learn.”
Baby blinked before she nearly tumbled out of her chair, catching herself on a large tripod that sprung from her elbow and straightening herself up with a lopsided grin. “I mean, hell yeah. Maybe if we can get another cook trained up I can get some of this ‘rest’ Trebol keeps harping on about!”
"Don't forget me, I'm harping on about it too." Diamante crossed his arms, grinning.
“W-well yeah…” Baby poked her fingers together. “but I wouldn’t complain about it right in front of you, Di! I mean, you said you needed me, right? So why would I complain about it?”
Violet chuckled softly. “Can I join in to help? She does need to rest more. There’s only so much you can do in a day, right?”
She got up, and leaned against the counter with an expectant tilt of her head.
"See, Baby 5? Vi agrees with me," Di nodded. "Why don't you show her what you need done and she can help you out."
“Damn you guys!” Baby 5 huffed before the grin broke through and she grabbed Violet by the arm “alright. So the first thing is to figure out whatcha gonna put in it…”
000
The stew came out fine– honestly, better than fine. It was fantastic with the guiding hand of Baby 5 and everyone’s efforts. Together with Di and Baby, Violet had put the rest of the meal together over a conversation that never trailed back to betrayal, heartache, and the nightmare of Dressrosa.
Instead, they shared a meal, just like old times. A hearty and heavily spiced beef stew between them, and things almost seemed to be going back to normal. Violet had seen the turmoil in Baby 5’s mind when she’d first walked in…the hurt and anger of the last few days not quite simmered away, but mingled with the genuine joy to see her again.
A complicated opinion even more complicated by Baby 5’s volatile emotions. It was clear as they talked and ate that Baby was desperately looking for an ‘in’ for forgiveness. That she was hoping with all her heart that Violet could explain everything and once more be welcomed as a member of her family. The world had hurt Baby 5, leaving her eager to please and easily wounded by the loss of those she loved, and Violet regretted having twisted the knife back on the island.
By the time they were washing the bowls together, it seemed like she’d found her in– the turmoil quieted into Baby’s usual raucous laughter and big grin as she and Diamante flanked her on either side.
During that lull however, she’d checked in on Admiral Fujitora and his crew with the reach of her powers. The stalemate had been broken, and the Admiral got his way. Their warship was headed towards Mary Geoise.
She’d excused herself quickly and made for Trebol deeper into the ship to alert him to the change in destination.
He found him in a small, more private section of the quarters area talking with Giolla. The woman, often known as "Auntie" or "Gigi" had escaped the fighting mostly unscathed, thankfully and Violet walked into a discussion about art.
Namely, Giolla talking about one of her old ‘mainstays’ from back when the gang was still gaining strength and capital.
“Of course I’ll only do it so long as it takes for the young master to come up with a plan! You know I absolutely loathe realism, tre-tre! But for the family, of course I’ll produce as many fakes as you damn well need!”
"You're a kindly soul, Giolla," Trebol chuckled roughly, shaking his head. "Your forgeries are masterworks really– ah– Violet?"
He turned his head, noticing as she approached.
Giolla glanced up at her, the light catching her cats-eye glasses. “Oh my my, sweetheart! I’d heard you’d come back to us, but didn’t quite believe it until I saw it with my own eyes!”
The older woman had always treated her well , even in the early days of her time among the pirates. Her affable, gossipy demeanor and doting, motherly concern had almost made it feel normal in the days when she was still forcing down the part of herself that would later turn it’s back on her birth family.
Violet ducked her head with a sheepish smile. “Hello Gigi. I know, it’s a miracle isn’t it? But I’m here, I promise.”
"A real miracle," Trebol said with a thin smile. "Did you come just to join the gossip?"
“In a manner of speaking.” Violet said as she took a seat nearby. “May I? I know the wound’s still fresh.”
‘Auntie’ Giolla waved her hand with a laugh, her freckled shoulders shaking as she grinned her broad and infectious smile. “Enough of that! You know I’ve always loved your gossip, Vi-vi.”
Derringer had absolutely picked up his love of cutesy nicknames from Giolla, Violet didn’t even have to guess for that one.
“Admiral Fujitora’s managed to win the argument over the G-5 supply run. The Navy Warship is headed straight to Mary Geoise.”
Trebol exhaled with tight frustration. "I was worried that would happen. Hang it all. Well. At least we have our backup plan, considering. Unless you have more bad news."
Giolla twisted a lock of her thick hair around her clever artist’s fingers, the sharp and painted tip sparkling in the light as she pursed her lips. “Did the big croccy have a change of heart?”
“Not as far as I’m aware.” Violet shook her head, pressing her hand to her forehead with a weary smile. “I think we’re still on track there. We should point towards Mary Geoise…if there’s a chance we can catch up, we should take it.”
"Indeed." Trebol nodded, grumbling and clearing his throat. "We'll change course immediately, then. If nothing else, we'll want to catch up to Crocodile after he catches up with them. I'll have to see if we have any way of contacting him in the meantime…"
“Oh, if only I knew the code to his transponder snail!” Giolla bemoaned. “you know, I’ve heard a little of his exploits recently! Did you know he’s got a resident artist as well? They were all over the newspaper after they got accused of kidnapping that Princess Vivi girl!”
Violet raised her eyebrow.
“I didn’t know that…” she paused for a moment before the idea struck. She smiled thinly. “Oh! Tre!!” “...I’m going to scout his ship more effectively. Maybe the code’s written down somewhere, or maybe I’ll overhear it.”
"Hah!" Trebol clapped his hands with a wider smile. "Clever girl, I was just about to suggest that."
Giolla cooed, and reached over to rustle Violet’s hair– something so familiar that it made Violet laugh with a tinge of a flush. “You’re such a smart girl, Vi-vi~. I don’t even want to imagine what we’d really do without you!”
Violet leaned on her hand with a lopsided smile. “We’re on the same page again. I’m thinking if I can get it we can relay a message to them within a few hours when we get into range.”
She grinned at Giolla “I could say the same…the royal family doesn’t know how to use my talents.”
"Wonderful, wonderful. Let's head up to the deck then and get this ship on course, shall we?" He held a hand out. "Violet, be a dear and help me up?"
Violet stood immediately and walked over to take his hand and help him up as she’d often done during family meetings over the last ten years of her life.
“Absolutely, Tre.” she steadied him with a hand on his back. “Once we’re on course, we’re one step closer to getting Doffy back.”

two fights for freedom ~ chapter two: wrong place, right time
Tumblr media
“C-Cora…” Law kept his voice at a low hush. They weren’t really in hearing range, but it was worth the extra precaution. “That guy, he’s, he’s got six arms.”
Rosinante adjusted his shades. “Yeah, looks like a fishman.”
“Fishman…” Law looked up at him in wild fear. “I thought you said they only lived in the Grand Line.”
“I said they can be found in the Grand Line.” Rosinante corrected, using his deep voice to keep the conversation private. Law could still hear the wind and waves. No Silent field, not yet. “Nothing to be worried about.” He assured, “They’re people, Law, just like us.”
The kid still looked dubious. Especially as the fishman catapulted himself from the sea and landed right before them. Cora still towered over this guy, but he was huge. Bulky, menacing, with suckers on each arm. Looked more like a squid than a fish.
“Hey…thanks for…waiting for me…” The fishman huffed out, swiping imaginary sweat from his tattooed forehead. “Most of the time when I call out to people that far away, they just run off!”
Rosinante chuckled amicably, but Law could sense some tension in tone. He was on-guard. Nothing to be worried about my ass. “We wouldn’t do that, right bud?” He patted Law’s hat. “How can we help you?”
“How can you help?” The octopus man dropped the giant pot. It smacked into the rocky soil with a heavy, wet, splat. Then, he pointed at himself with all six arms. “Well, I don’t really need much help with anything at the moment. Actually, I just saw these two guys I didn’t recognize, I was going to ask what they were doing here.”

Either Namor or Attuma fic ideas. Pls tag me if you write or get inspired by any of these. Like always, there are no rules. (Warning: Some of these may possibly have Dark! Fic leanings/potential and will be marked with 🥀. If Dark! Fics aren’t your thing, that’s okay. Just ignore those prompts. Please don’t harass me or others or start arguments in the comments. Thank you.)
1. While scuba diving in an underwater cave system full of beautiful stones and underwater plants, you get lost. Trying to escape, you find a trident. Upon touching this trident, millions of voices ring out, "The Princess/Queen has returned." (up to you if familial or romantic story).
2. The Blue Lagoon AU where you and Attuma/Namor are just humans who get shipwrecked and stranded on an island. You fall in love as you build a home there over the years. Possibly takes place in the Victorian era.
3. You work as a mermaid performer for an aquarium, and on your day off you take your tail out to the beach to play in the ocean. You're soon surprised by a group of Wakandans, who, having mistaken you for an actual mermaid, are begging you to help them rescue their kidnapped princess from Talokan. Wait, what? You’re struggling to process any of what was just said. You can hold your breath for a long time by human standards, but not that long.
4. Ponyo AU where either Namor or Attuma have a very small daughter who’s curious and in love with the surface to the point she slips away from the sea and befriends a human child. Namor or Attuma tries to bring his child back to Talokan, but the girl is like 😠 because she likes this human!! The human is her best friend now!! “Daddy go away can’t you see we’re sailing in a boat, eating ham sandwiches, making sand castles and other fun kid stuff!!”
🥀5. You're a deep sea welder. You've noticed a hatch on the seabed through which a light flickers for a while. One day, you check it out. To your surprise, you see the panicked face of your friend who went missing, through the hatch glass. They’ve been kept prisoner in Talokan all this time and you offer to take their place. Beauty and the Beast AU
6. A woman gives birth to a girl who's been cursed to slowly transform into a “sea monster”. She tries desperately to make her child normal, to the detriment of her daughter. As reader grows into an adult and continues to change, her mother fears the day that she will leave her for the ocean, especially when she goes off to college and meets a man who claims to be from the sea. Sort of Hades/Persephone AU.
7. Ever After “a bird may love a fish, but where would they live?” AU
Tumblr media
8. Period drama AUs. Bridgerton, Jane Austen, victorian AU, regency AU, gimme that good stuff but with Namor or Attuma.
9. After getting shipwrecked on an island you’ve never heard about, you meet a princess who asks you to help her take back her kingdom. She mistook you for a warrior, and misunderstood everything you said. You have never fought a battle in your life. You just wanna go home. You’re far too tired and hungry for this.
10. Creature from the Black Lagoon AU. During an expedition, reader is noticed by Namor or Attuma, who admires her beauty and falls in love with her from afar over the course of however many months. I just want to fall in love with and be carried away bridal style by a fishman to his underwater home, my dudes.
11. Shape of Water AU where Attuma/Namor is held captive in a facility and over time forms a special bond with reader, eventually falling in love with her. They bridge their language barrier and when reader helps him escape, oh fuck turns out he is a god.
12. When you were a child, you had an imaginary friend around your age who lived in the sea. You used to go on adventures with him. The last time you saw him was when you were teenagers, when you shared in a strange personal ceremony where you joined hands. Now, after all these years, a hooded Attuma/Namor arrives on your doorstep claiming to be your betrothed and tells you that you must come to Talokan with him at once. It’s not safe here. (Could take place in a different time period/timeline. Either way, let’s pretend reader and Namor/Attuma were either born around the same time or age at about the same rate/speed so the age gap isn’t weird and we divert the creepy “adult Namor meets reader when she’s a child” thing. Maybe reader isn’t exactly human. Maybe she’s a mutant too. Idk. Don’t think too hard about it.)
🥀13. A scuba diver was in the middle of exploring a shipwreck when they discover a body. It’s the body of a young woman and it looks oddly intact. Like she just fell asleep. But the ship’s been down here for years. The diver is in the middle of contemplating this when the body’s eyes open. The woman is you, and Attuma/Namor is furious that someone dare disturb his love while you were resting. Why are you in this situation? Who knows. Maybe you were dying from an incurable disease, maybe Namor/Attuma was faced with your mortality after a near death experience. The why and the how is up to you. Sort of Sleeping Beauty AU.
14. You kayak every day, and over time some of the dolphins in the bay have started swimming along with you as you kayak. One day, the dolphins are acting oddly. After much chattering, and bumping into your boat, three of them push you and your kayak out to sea, as if commanded to by an unseen presence. Suddenly you’re surrounded by blue skinned people and they all have weapons pointed at you. A man with wings on his ankles hovers above you. Well, damn. This was not in your summer getaway plans.
Tumblr media
15. You are stranded on a gloomy beach after a shipwreck. The only other survivor is your loyal dog after you saved it from the burning ship. The full moon shines on the dark water, where debris of the wreckage are floating. Suddenly, you hear something in the woods. You turn around and see someone walking towards you... (Possibly Little Mermaid AU? Idk. I just love that scene when Eric stays on the burning ship to save his dog, Max.)
16. Pirate AU? You were born with special eyes. The sea is as clear as glass to you. By the time you’re old enough to join a ship’s crew, you’re smart enough not to tell them about everything you’ve seen below the waves.
17. The red string is tied around your finger and lets it lead you to your soulmate, someone who understands you. You’re a navigator and a cartographer, so when your string leads you to an unexplored part of the sea not marked on your maps, you think it must be a mistake. It’s not.
🥀18. You and your parents are labeled eccentric. You’ve all avoided the ocean, yet when they’re killed, you arrange a sea burial for them. As their bodies sink, you watch the rest of your family swim up from the murky depths below to take them home, and some of them pause to wave at you. How is this happening. Is this a vivid nightmare or a haunting reality? Are you in the twilight zone?
19. You're a novice shipwreck treasure hunter. One day you dig up a map that seems very old, all of the continents and islands are correct, but the map ends at places with waterfalls or hidden underwater cave tunnels. You see an X that reads "only way out". Only way out of where? What’s down there?
20. You are riding your boat through a fog. Suddenly, you come upon an island ringed by shipwrecks. On closer inspection, the entire island is an overgrown pile of ships, all from different cultures and eras. As you near the shore, you see a bunch of blue skinned people and a man flying above them. They seem to be burning something. They spot you. Oh no.
21. You’ve just survived a shipwreck and pull yourself onto a small island. From the shade of a palm tree a man steps out and says “Well well well. We meet again. But this time the advantage is mine!” You have no idea who this guy is or what he’s talking about.
Tumblr media
22. You’re a young Aztec woman. Your canoe gets caught in a torrent and you black out and wake up alone on an unknown beach, where you see a golden glow in the distance. Describe the first year of your life in Talokan. Could take place centuries in the past before the canon timeline.
🥀23. You’ve just inherited a mysterious Aztec looking, revolving puzzle box from your late grandfather. In the note that came with it, it states, “this puzzle box will reset every hour, each time to a new sequence, but the prize inside will change your life forever. Good luck.” Sort of Hellraiser inspired.
24. You’re an archaeologist studying the Aztec and you’ve just uncovered an artifact with your newborn child’s name and birthdate on it.
25. You love building sand sculptures on the beach, but recently someone has been changing your sculptures, moving them, or making copies. This time, you are going to hide and watch, to see what is happening.
26. After you finished college, you went on what you thought would be a dream cruise vacation. Instead you were the sole survivor of a sunken ship. Despite many difficulties and challenges, you managed to find some comfort and joy on a deserted island. Fish and crabs seemed to wash up on shore daily, providing you with food and you kept finding useful items you could create clothing or other supplies with. On the tenth anniversary of your life on the island, you find the following words written on the sand on the beach: “I’m a friend. I think It is time we finally meet.”
🥀27. Your dad always said that putting your ear to a conch shell sounded like the ocean. While walking along the beach, you come across one such seashell. You decide to relive childhood memories of listening to the sound of ocean waves, but are frightened by what you hear. “Help me!” A distressed voice calls. “Help me! Please!”
28. Iron Giant inspired AU. The “Hey Dean, watch this!” scene except it’s Reader who’s swimming in the water and being like, “Come in, the water’s great!” While failing miserably at hiding the fact it’s freezing. Meanwhile Namor is sitting smugly in the sand, just trying to relax like “Haha no thanks,” until a HUGE wave crashes over him, leaving him totally soaked and dampening his mood (no pun intended) 😂
OR reader is a single mother and waitress and Namor is an artist who comes into the diner and over time falls in love with reader and bonds with the kid, becoming their dad. Possibly modern AU.

things your muse will notice about mine
Tumblr media
what they look like
pizi is a fishman. their teeth are sharper than a humans, their hands and feet are webbed. if someone were to look really close at their skin in certain like, they'll see that their skin is covered in colorful tinted scales. their hair is an unnatural light pink with a yellowish undertone (similar to the type of fish they're similar to). they wear a lot of bright colors and outfits that most people find unusual. they really don't dress like a stereotypical pirate, much less someone that's sailing constantly.
what they smell like
very sweet perfume, like sickeningly sweet. they wear quite a bit of it. underneath the perfume, they smell similar to algae, a sort of earthy brine that comes from them being in the ocean so frequently. they do smell like a fish when they're wet, but it doesn't stick to their body once they're dry.
what they taste like
seawater, salty. they take good care of their teeth, especially since they can't grow them back like some other fishmen can. their body is better adapted for salt water rather than freshwater. they can drink plain water just fine, they have to brush their teeth with slightly salted water. unless they ate something with a strong scent or taste recently, they'll be a little salty.
what they sound like
high pitched, slightly nasally. they have a slight vocal fry and a lot of their sentences end up pitching up like they're asking a question. their emotions are very strong and it often shows in their tone, and it is very obvious. if they don't like you, you will know. they speak loudly and sometimes very quickly without realizing it.
what they feel like
smooth! considering they're covering in small scales, it makes their skin feel almost velvety. they're very soft, very plush. parts of their body are chubby, but also if they move in a certain way it's clear that there's muscle underneath the fat. their hair feels like hair but much, much softer and a bit smoother if someone were to run their hands through it.
