a bunch of my computer parts came with super bright gamer RGBs all over them (not by choice - the models with lights just happened to be better deals) and my case has a glass side panel, so when I first brought it home and set it up, I had to spend like 2 hours downloading and configuring several different programs to turn them all off (because no single app seemed to be able to control all the components at once).

in the end, the only light I left on was on the side of my GPU, and I set it to be a soft dark purple that would slide across the length of the GPU like a marquee every few seconds - nothing that'd disturb my sleep if my computer happened to wake itself up in a dark room, but enough to look cool and give me a visual indicator that the PC was turned on.

anyways sometimes I guess the driver that controls that specific component's RGBs just... crashes? for absolutely no reason? and the result is that it defaults to an intense, solid red that harshly illuminates my whole case and the area around it. every time this happens I cannot shake the immediate, instinctive fear that my computer has turned evil and is going to kill me. like oh god oh fuck it knows I ""fixed"" one of its CPU cooler fans by scotch-taping it in place so it would stop spinning unevenly and screeching at me, and now it's waiting for its chance to strike and claim ultimate revenge

Reader chugs the rest of their drink. “Yeah, I don’t think that’s changing anytime soon.”

A week later, reader ends up at the same staircase they always do, they rang the doorbell and waited.

Jasper opened the door and sighed once they saw reader, “I see you’ve made your decision then?” Reader nodded.

“Do you want to change your clothes beforehand so you’re more comfortable?” Jasper asked

“Yes, please,” the reader murmured, not even looking at them.

“Alright, tell me when you're ready, I’ll be waiting.”

They come back from the bathroom fully changed. “Come here, dear. I’ll take care of you now,” Reader is hugged to their chest. “Remember, love, you can change your decision at any point. But for now, just relax and listen to my voice,” Jasper advised.

Reader melted into the arms, sinking deeper until they were fully laying in Jas's chest, their heartbeat a calming rhythm beneath them. “Would you like to stay there doll?”

“Mhmm,” came the muffled reply

“Ok, hun,” they cooed in response.

So soft, they just wanted to slip away more than they already were.

“Is this what you wanted? To be a simple little thing?” Jasper smirked, their voice playful, “Of course, doll, don’t exert yourself with such big words. Are we only mumbling now?”

“Wow, should I praise you for answering? It seems that’s what you want,” Jasper teased.

The reader blushed deeper, the warmth of Jasper’s words.

Days turn into months that reader enjoys themselves, the constant praise they get for just existing, let alone what would happen if they actually tried to do something.

All they really need to do is sit still and look presentable, and Jasper just takes care of them anyways so honestly they just have to sit.

Sit and listen to their voice, being pet, fed, and...

"What’s my doll of the day? Oh, that’s a very good question! I got them quite a while ago, but I’m just now showing them off."

I must admit that it took me a few of years how to figure, and I consider that the coloring and color theory are tricky.

Before explain how do I color, I must clarify I only use Krita. This art program is [FREE!]!!!

The secret is that I use the following tools to make the colors more beautiful.

You should experiment with these tools!

Specific Color Selector

For some reasons, I avoid using color wheel because I don't get always colors that combine well. I only use the color wheel to guide myself to see the color schemes.

Like in this case, if you want to try make yellow turning dark red, sometimes it doesn't look "fluid". Like we only can trust in our eyes, so it can take us more time to figure out how to make the colors appearing well.

Without the specific color selector, using the color wheel.

To activate this tool (Specific Color selector), you can go to settings -> dockers -> Specific Color Selector, as you can see.

According to the RGB theory, red, green and blue are primary colors.

Magenta is a secondary color made by combining red and blue.

Cyan is a secondary color made by combining green and blue.

Yellow is a secondary color made by combining red and green.

So if you want to make it more red, you have to lower the green. As you can see in this screenshot.

With the specific color selector, I only have to move a little backward. To make it reddish, you have lower the green or blue of RGB.

To make darker, you may have to lower the red.

It combines well with colors, right? Yaya!

You can apply similarly, but always be sure to remind how colors work in the RGB theory. Or you can use another model color, and you may learn how the colors model works!

I love so much filter mask, I may use these to have quick fix of 'bad combination of colors' or 'too far off colors'.

Inside the filter mask tool, I use mostly Color adjustment, HSV/HSL Adjustment, ASC-CDL.

Well, I mostly use the color adjustment to balance some colors, if you want to make it more warm, you may play with curves of Red, and lower the part of blue/green!

Different types of layers:

You can check out the guide of "Blending modes" on Krita, and you may use some of these modes.

I use Hard light, overlay, multiply, Color dodge depending of what I would like to.

Hard light to shade or light.

Multiply to shade.

Color dodge to give it lighting

Overlay to give it a bit balance color

I suggest you to experiment with these blending modes or different types of layers! And you will understand a bit. Of course, I also suggest you to play with the opacity of the layer with the blending mode!

You may combine some layers to reach the desired result!

This video teaches you how to use blending mode for some specific parts, like lighting, shading, rendering, etc.

I recommend you to watch some good videos that helped me to understand better the confusing color theory

Stupidest of stupid questions: So humans are trichromatic, right? We basically have RGB eyes. How inefficient would it be to have CMYK eyes? Is it even possible?

You could absolutely do CMY eyes, but the K (being black) is a little more difficult because black isn't a wavelength of light so much as the absence of light. I suppose you could call the K your rods, which are best used in low light and convey things like "shadows" and "movement" particularly effectively. As a human, the most sensitive part of your retina, the part you're using when you directly look at things, is called the fovea. It is PACKED with cones, which are good for color and also tight spatial resolution; rods are found outside along the periphery of both the retinal and visual field. So we're just going to set the K aside now and think about those cones.

Honestly, tetrachromat eyes are technically pretty easy to achieve: all you need is four versions of cone-rhodopsin genes getting translated into different kinds of cone-rhodopsin cells in your retina. Old World primates evolved our trichromat eyes from dichromat mammalian ancestors exactly this way: with a gene duplication in one core cone-rhodopsin gene that allowed one of the copies to accumulate mutations until a sufficiently divergent copy fixed in the population.

So to have CMY eyes, you'd need three cone-rhodopsins with different wavelength sensitivities: one that is most sensitive to cerulean, one most sensitive to maroon, and one most sensitive to yellow. You might or might not have better color resolution than a regular old RGB human, though: color resolution is partly a function of the sensory information hitting your retinas, but it's also partly a function of how much brain space you dedicate to processing that information.

I mentioned my blind cat Arthur the other day--here's a photo:

Arthur is what we call cortically blind. As a kitten, he had an intact pupillary reflex and could probably see light vs dark, but he also had severe nystagmus, so his pupils jittered uncontrollably all the time and he probably didn't get a whole lot of useful visual input. Without the visual experience of seeing things and learning how to organize and process visual information, his brain as he developed went "you know what? fuck this" and stopped dedicating any processing power to whatever visual input he was getting.

Basically, he lost visual acuity because the information he was able to pipe to his brain was fragmented and poor-quality enough that his brain stopped bothering to process it. If I pulled his current eyeballs out and magically hooked up new totally functional ones, he wouldn't be able to do anything with them: his brain has given up sorting out the information.

So the question of whether theoretical CMY humans could distinguish colors better than RGB humans is driven by two things: one, whether having two highly-overlapping cones helps you distinguish between slightly variant light types better than very different cones, and two, whether we're extending the total visual range by moving the cones at the external ends of the range (B and R) farther apart. Overlapping but unique sensory information can be really helpful for localizing and distinguishing similar-but-not-identical inputs--that's one of the reasons owls are good at localizing quiet noises, actually, their ears are wildly asymmetrical and they can computer where a noise is made based on how loudly it can be heard with each ear, especially if the owl is on the move as it listens. Like the Doppler effect, but faster with a lot more processing power on it.

I have no idea which would be more effective, but it's a fun thing to think about!

Lance keeps everything professional but behind closed doors or when nobody is watching he is an absolute menace, regularly spars hand-to-paw/claw with his pokemon (yes even his Hydregon and it thinks its funny whenever it fakes him out) this man also has the tendancy to seemingly teleport behind people especially during his G-Man work (ie Rocket Grunt thinks their safe and the next minute they know theyre being german suplexed by a red haired man in a cape like he's Batman or something)

Drake is an enigma being the oldest acting Hoenn League member but nobody really knows much about him (the man barely makes any live appearances and any League challengers over the past 20 years havent even gotten past his Flygon except for Steven of course) nobody knows where he lives or where he even came from (they ask and every single time they get a different awnser with the strangest being Poni Island, nobody knows how old he is and speculates that he is immortal) Briney knows everything about him and refuses to tell because its both hilarious and also just a straight up cognito hazard and will not elaborate

Draydon is relatively normal until back when he and Alder were young Alder saw him deadlifting a boulder with zero effort (the guy is insanely strong) people do speculate that he and Drake might be related and he refuses to dispute or prove it, the beard however is just gravity defying and what makes it worse is that he doesnt use gel or anything its just like that with no explanation (funnily enough he holds back in all of his battles and if he didnt he could easily become champion, Iris took after that energy and evicerated everything in her path while wearing her magical girl champion costume)

Drasna generally keeps to herself but she likes to piss off Seibold on occasion and sics him on paparazzi when she gets bored (usually in the form of 'oh dear it looks like youre getting review bombed again' followed by very angry mega blastoise noises and the loudest Kalosian swearing you can imagine) she was at one point a poison specialist with her Dragalge but partially moved away from it (she still has an insanely overpowered Naganadel that nobody knows where or when she got it)

Raihan knows just about anything you could ask for, need to know the history of the Turffield Rock Formations? He knows it at the top of his head, where to find a super specific type of phone charger? Drasna is totally scheming when it comes to Seibold. There’s always a little prank she’s writing down on scrap papers during long meeting or waiting for challengers to come through the elite four. Picking on her coworker and getting away with it is her favorite pass time.

Raihan is a walking encyclopedia on almost anything and everything. He gets text messages not only from the other dragon trainers in the leagues but also almost everyone else, including Clemont on the rare occasion, and he always takes time to respond back with either a link to a website with proper information or to craft a well knowledge text message.

Just to give you a sense of what I was talking about yesterday...

This is just a very rough (like, very rough) example of how a few simple changes could have made the logo much more successful. And this is just crude Photoshopping. I've no doubt that the illustrator who did the design could do an amazing job if they'd had the right perspective. It still isn't great, but it's a few notches better in my opinion.

Like it or hate it, at the very least this example shines a huge light on the terrible error with the number 5 being obscured enough to be misread as a 9.

I also noticed that the designer doesn't seem to have converted their illustration to RGB from CMYK for outputting an image for the web, which is why the blacks look washed out and grey on that logo. Even just fixing that simple thing (that's frankly a fairly common, but very foolish mistake) would have made a big difference in the impact of the logo (all other glaring issues aside).

Anyway, like I said, I'm happy for him anyway, and excited to see more from Racer Yibo.

More Cyberpunk au details + details of the RGB desings + earlier concept drawing

(Before that please let me know if you want more info on the au because I have a couple drawings planned but with school and stuff I can't draw much and Idk if I can stay motivated that long. So my next posts could be mostly au lore with maybe some sketches, tell me if you'd like that)

In general terms, to give the Cyberpunk aesthetic to all of their designs I try to avoid symmetry by adding belts or patterns to break it. And for the colors, I focused on darker hues and neon tones. This way, the designs have a “punk”/dystopian-ish vibe while representing the high-tech elements of their society (which is like Cyberpunk in a nutshell).

As for the young versions of RGB, each one has their own color palette: Kai's is Red and orange with shades of black; Nya's is Blue, pinkish red and light shades of gray; and Lloyd's is light Green and also dark blueish green. Kai and Nya get a few details (shoes, arm or jacket) of each other’s main color as a wink ;).

Kai's outfit is meant for moving around comfortably both in the city and outside, Nya's is like a mechanic uniform for tinkering, and Lloyd's is for running as fast as possible; he also has a puffy sleeve similar to Kai's (le wink again). All three of them have a letter of RGB in some part of their outfit and share a tech pattern, each positioned differently (Kai in his inside shirt, Lloyd in his sweatshirt and Nya in her leggins)

As for Kai's eye:

One day, when they were exploring around the danger zone of the outskirts of the city, Kai accidentally activated a trap set by one of the last survivors of the Outside that unexpectedly still lived there (a paranoid rancid sociopath). The violent trap had become infested with Red plants with time and made Kai get in contact with it too: it instantly dug its roots deep within his right eye socket and Kai was unable to pull it off. Since it was such a sensitive spot where the plant was sucking all the nutrients out of him, he was so weak that Nya had to slowly and painstakingly carry him back through the ruined suburbs to get help inside the city walls. After getting around the border control with the plant still stuck to Kai’s eye, all thanks to Echo’s help (who also carried the kid the rest of the way), they got to the doctor’s. Luckily, he was able to cure Kai, but he was forced to remove the affected area, which were his eye and part of the skin of his face; however, if he had waited any longer the plant's roots would have reached his brain and killed him.

Nya then started looking for a biomechanic while Kai rested with little Lloyd, who’d followed his sister all throughout the loaded trip back but could do nothing but keep her company due to his size. However, when the girl finally found one who agreed to make the prosthetic eye for them, a fellow demon named Ronin, he set them the condition to seek out a strange artifact for him as payment, giving them a total of eight years to find it. With no money and no choice, they were forced to accept, but Nya managed to get a picture of the prosthetic’s plans; this ensured that she’d be able to fix it and not depend on the guy too much, but four years later they were found out and their deadline was cut down to only another year.

In the end, Ronin will be Ronin, and the mysterious artifact was in fact a collectionist piece of

Garbage.

Apart from that incident though, as kids they don’t really spend that much time in the city, and they generally only come there to visit their friends/acquaintances and sell stuff Nya finds. For example, they do both of those things in Ed and Edna’s junkyard, where Nya trades her scraps for their more useful scraps while visiting their friend Jay. She and her siblings (who always need to stick together inside the city walls just in case) like telling stories about their adventures in the Outside to the oblivious inhabitants, so obviously Jay is no exception. The girl is very energetic and much more of a little unhinged rascal in this au, so her stories are usually really exciting and filled with funny acting for the little boy. Additionally, as they are both mechanics in the making, whenever the siblings come around his parent’s workshop, Nya and him show each other their latest creations and sometimes they even discuss how they could improve on their work.

But the one who most often talks to people, especially strangers, is Kai. Because even though they are feared as demons, the boy is much more chill and charismatic than his siblings, and is usually in charge of being the friendlier face (although he does like staring at the people who get scared of his dragon ears a little too hard hehe). In fact, they use that awkward fear to their own advantage: due to Lloyd’s much more obvious demon features (his ears are even pointier than the other two’s and his eyes are straight up red), he is often the distraction whenever they need to steal food, either in times of need or if they just wanna cause trouble. People just cannot stop staring nervously at the little boy, who is great at drawing the wrong kind of attention, and when the act is up, he’s so fast following his siblings that no one can ever catch him.

Overall, they don’t really give a single damn about society and think too many of them are just as parasitic as the plants in the Outside, so they don’t often bother as kids to get into the city. That, paired with the fact that they are just three tiny outcasts who somehow miraculously keep coming back from the “deadly” Outside, means that people in the city just tolerate and more or less respect them (out of being kinda spooked by them), so they tend to get away with their shenanigans without much repercussion.

But in the future, they do change their habits a little bit.

When it comes to their designs, they do keep the same purpose but with variations in their shapes. Kai still uses casual comfortable wear but his color palette changes a bit, with a more pinkish Red with blue highlights instead of orange, but he does keep the shades of black. His outfit now consists of a thin bodysuit cut at the chest and hips to make sort of a hexagonal fishnet pattern, trousers and boots, along with a ton of new accessories (more slutty in general).

Nya keeps the mechanic vibe but with more of the gray and blue colors and barely any red. She has huge trousers with bigger pockets and her tools attached under her belt, a sports bra (for the ladies ;)) and mech gloves. She keeps her goggles, which are a different color now.

Lloyd has a sports outfit similar to the previous one in the shorts and leggings. He keeps the puffy sleeve on his left arm, although it is now a standalone piece, and has bigger trainers. His color palette is black and white with neon/bright greens. He lost his arm in an accident with plants too: the affected area was on his upper arm so they had to remove the entire thing, and Jay made his prosthesis.

They all have more small details of their other siblings’ colors (for example Lloyd has the pins on his casual vest); also, and instead of having their respective RGB letters on a random part of their outfits they are now matching at the back of the three jackets. Some other details on them are the fire symbol in blue on Kai's bomber jacket and on Nya's military jacket, the label on the chest that reads "samurai", complete with its X on the arm sleeve.

Their more mature personalities make them live around more in the city, although practically nobody knows their true names still, while also not leaving behind the Outside or Echo (in fact, their expeditions tend to be longer now that they have more experience and overall strength and abilities).

Nya (still just known as “Blue”) actually works in her own workshop now, selling her works on her own. However, her stubborn, energetic and blunt personality has now matured into pure badass and she’s constantly looking for a fight, but nobody can touch her or at least seriously hurt her because she’s insanely strong.

Also, even if they do manage to actually harm her she has her brother Kai (“Red”) looking out for her, who can basically destroy anyone’s private life if they mess with any of their siblings through blackmail :). In fact, he’s usually seen hanging around in the Red district (they even mistake him for a prostitute sometimes lmao), which is where most of the juicy information is flung around, so he has no trouble getting sensitive information about anyone and anything in the city. In addition, he’s developed a calm and charismatic personality that lures people into their manipulative tactics to take advantage of virtually anyone he wants, but his temper can be frail sometimes, especially when his siblings are hurt in any way. But, when it comes to them, even though he is more protective of them as the older brother and can explode if they are treated badly, he still fully trusts them and their abilities and they all rely on and fiercely fight for each other like a team whenever necessary.

In contrast to his siblings, though, Lloyd tends to avoid conflict as much as he can: despite looking like a human neon sign with his jacket on, he always manages to scurry out of sight whenever he’s in trouble as the speedy, witty little monke he is. And the reason he gets caught up in so much drama is because he is extremely curious and, as they aren’t kids anymore, people now care about the demon trio’s meddling in their business quite a bit more.

In conclusion, as they grow, Kai, Nya and Lloyd become more intelligent and fleshed out in their own ways, and even though they still have no respect for society as a whole, they do keep some friends close to them. They love each other and Echo as the unique family they are, and always make sure they have each other’s backs no matter the situation.

December was a hell of a month for Andy and I, so much so that it continued into January. It's a long story, but I'll give you the short version below the read more.

If you're not interested in reading all that, I'll give you this piece of advice: BACK YOUR FILES UP. Get an external hard drive or USB stick and back up your files.

A lot of things were going on at the same time, leaving little time for us to breathe, but let's start with the biggest crisis: my computer. With my tower in need of an upgrade, over the last year, I've been assembling the parts for a new machine. I'd purchased the guts months ago and finally obtained the case and lovely RGB LED fans for my new fancy machine. After a few weeks of ADHD distraction, we finally assembled my machine and installed the OS. At this point, I started installing programs and testing things out before taking the final plunge to move my hard drive to the new machine. Now during this process, my machine started making an odd low whine that Andy and I thought was weird, but we were both so mentally exhausted that neither of us clocked it as concerning. This was a mistake.

After days of fiddling, I was ready to move my hard drive! Remove drive from old machine, stick into new one, plug in, turn on machine. A process we've both done countless times before.

Machine doesn't register drive. Restart. Machine doesn't register drive. Check connections. Everything's fine. Machine still doesn't register drive. Maybe cable is bad? Plug fans back in, turn machine on. SNAP! Fans go dark. Okay, definitely problem with power supply cable.

Fine. Put drive back in old machine. Machine doesn't register drive. Oh fuck.

No. No. Nonononono. This is my drive that has EVERYTHING. Art, music, writing, photos. Everything.

Andy gets a drive reader. Drive can't be read. I'm having a breakdown in the other room. Yay.

Andy takes it to a specialist. Literally the only guys in town that deal with this level of problem. Good news! Drive's board is likely fried, but a simple fix IF that's the only part that's damaged. Bad news: my hard drive has to go to Ohio. I live in Missouri. Yay.

(These guys do forensic data recovery, as well as personal and commercial. So honestly one of the best places my drive could possibly have gone.)

While my drive is off on its adventure, I set about replacing my power supply and the 4 fans (w/light controller) that were cooked. Everything we removed, including my hard drive, smelled of burnt electronics. Yay, fire hazard.

Drive actually gets there pretty quick. Takes them about a week to get back to us. Good news! There appears to be recoverable data! Bad news: The board and the read arm mechanism are fried. They'll have to take my drive apart in a clean room to recover the data. Why is this bad news? The price tag. Which we don't have to pay if the data they recover isn't to our liking. A few days later, we're given a file tree of everything they can recover.

We sign off on it, and $3,400 later, they mail us two copies of my files. This whole situation was bad, but could have been so much worse. That damn power supply could have set my machine on fire. It was brand-new and from a highly rated brand, just unfortunately factory defective.

TLDR: A defective power supply fried my hard drive and 4 rgb case fans. It cost almost $4,000 for the drive recovery and replacement parts.

The biggest and longest "event" has been getting Andy's parents taken care of. They've been dealing with health issues, and he's been running himself ragged, getting them the help they need so they can stay at their home. Additionally, he's been worried about someone trying to trick his dad into signing over finances or property. Cue months of paperwork, phone calls, and in-person meetings to get everything sorted out.

In short, Andy now has power of attorney for the bulk his parents' finances and medical care. Now he can deal directly with contractors and companies to get his parents home and health cared for.

Now my parents are in fairly good health, but of course in the midst of all this, multiple medical procedures all lined up in such a way that I was the only person available to sit at the hospital each time. Why are hospital waiting rooms designed to blow air on you no matter where you sit?

And as a final kick in the ass, halfway through January I caught the flu. (I haven't been sick like this since school. ) I got so sick, I was out from work for an entire week. Matter of fact, I'm still coughing up crud.

They tested me for Covid, Influenza A & B, RSV, and strep. Whatever I had, it wasn't any of those. And of course, since I was steadily improving and no longer had a fever, I just had to continue to recover on my own. AND because they finally got me in a doctor's office, I've now got a host of pending appointments for standard health check ups that I kept forgetting to schedule. Wheeeeeee.

Quick Mabinogi rant

It's an older game so of course there's limitations to what they can do, but the new cosmetic items have improved greatly and I'll always be happy for that. (And with the eventual jump to the Unreal Engine 5 they're working on I have no doubt these issues will be a thing of the past.)

We went from having oven mitten hands to having individual fingers

Very cool! Can actually have glove items that'll let you have fingernails and rings.

Even feet get a minor upgrade. They've found a way to change the shape of the feet to something more natural looking. (Shoes look better and the feet are less blocky)

But with NEWER items they have to finagle the new feet and hands items, so they have a more appealing style. So instead of just putting on a glove or ring, they basically give you a second pair of hands (or feet), to put over your default hands so they have the new refined look to them.

And thanks to Dye Ampoules, a consumable item that lets you either pick a fixed color or do a mini game and randomly get a color from a limited palette you can customize MOST outfits/weapons/hair/accessories. There's fixed dye ampoules with certain colors #000000 or #FFFFFF being the most popular. (Also ones with flashy colors that can change through a variety of colors) You can get them from gachapons, events, from the item shop or hope someone on the player market is selling a color that appeals to you. You have a decent chance of getting the exact color you're looking for through these methods.

There have been 2 events where you can input the RGB to get the exact color you want but in my 10+ years of playing, only 2 events and one of them is linked to a non-repeatable quest the other a time exclusive event.

So getting exact colors is very hard. But. Not impossible. Now my issues comes up with the new cosmetic changes and the current dye system.

Yes you can get new cosmetics that change the shape of your feet or hands. BUT...

They are ALWAYS going to be in the "default" skin tone. I believe it's "Peach" but... Mabinogi has a lot of skin tones. A good variety too. Pale with golden undertones, a variety of brown to dark brown skin tones, and even fantasy skin tones.

Now. When these items are distributed either through gachapons, events, or the player market. They're ALWAYS this peachy skin tone. Always. And it makes me soooooo annoyed. There's more than 1 skin tone. Even if there were only the 12 they had at launch. Why do all the items come in that one color? I'll say if the character is on the pale side they'll have an easier time getting away with a color mismatch than the others, where it looks jarring on anything beyond the second half of the 2nd row.

And like I said earlier, trying to find a specific color? GOOD LUCK! The struggle to find a brown that matches my character's skin tone has been nothing short of frustrating. So I know it has to be just as frustrating to the other players who're trying to color coordinate.

And I know you can dye them a non skin tone color, and they'll just look like very odd gloves, BUT! It's kinda unfair? Like these items especially the rarer drops from gacha are already hard to get but finding a skin tone match is kinda harder, unless you're Mabinogi's default skin tone. A whole option of dressing up is cut off from you until (or IF) you find the correct dye. Not to mention the game's real time lighting that makes color dropping your skin tone kinda useless? Different fabrics and material will skew the color a bit and it won't be as seamless of a match.

I love to complain but I also want to offer solutions!

The fucked up option: Sell skin tone dyes in the item shop. I think its STUPID characters not wearing the peachy skin tone have to pay for dyes to match when other characters can get it off rip, but whatever. Offer it and people will take it.

The Fair options: Randomize the colors. No two items are the same color, and they should rotate through all 64 skin tones. That way there's a fairer chance for people to come across their character's skin tone either through the gachapon or the player's market.

I know (or REALLY hope) that when the game is updated to the unreal engine these problems won't exist. Currently they flip flop between the method of requiring a skin tone on the item, or allowing the item to naturally match the skin tone (I think it depends on the shape of the shoe. Higher heels will always have a skin tone section to dye, while the kitten heel shoes won't?) While gloves seem to mostly been resolved with the update to the hand model.

I'd just like this game I play to be considerate of its player's base, and I have multiple complaints on the fashion & dress up side of mabinogi this has been my least favorite thing I've noticed since coming back.

"no is no and I mean it kiddo" norm was huffing as he shoves the last things in the car. Norm Spellman, a scientist who had finished his avatar training not to long ago, is to be sent to pandora. But he is a father as well to a sparky kid with a taste for music.

He cant leave his child on earth, in the hands of the government, so with special permission, he was allowed to take his daughter with him. Which is a sigh of relief.

But also a slight pain in the ass.

His little muse, the sparkle in his eye, his scource of happiness...

Refuses to leave the planet unless she gets her hands of the DJ mixer AV-9400. Apparently its the "mixer of all mixer's". And way too expensive.

Rolling his eyes, he grabs his child like a sack of potato's. "Dad come on!! let me have this!!" sparky moved and thrashed as she was being shoved in the car. All her begging's and pleas landed in deaf ears. "The RDA stationary" norm commands the ai in his rental car, it obeys and begins the car.

His kid rolls her eyes and pouts in the back seat. "We are leaving this metal planet for who knows how long and I cant keep the only good thing, music!" she dramatically falls to her side. Norm huffs at her act, "don't worry, you can make plenty of music when we get to pandora" he says.

Unknowns to him, the little muse was tucking an item safely into her bag.

"dad if I die-"

"You are not going to die, we will just be asleep for a good while" norm reassured his daughter as she was being settled for the hyper sleep. "But still! let me just say this!" she urged before the specialist was setting the bed. Norm had his full attention on her. "What is it?" he urges.

Grinning, she says "I stole the AV-9400 mixer".

"oh you little-"

Life on pandora was going wonderful. Well, after all the hell that happened between humans and na'vi. Pandora became the girl's forever home. Not that she doesn't mind. But one thing she does miss, is listening to earth music. Ever since hell's gate was destroyed, all communication with planet earth was gone. Meaning she couldn't get space signal to collect more music.

So, using her well trusted mixer, all the music she has gathered, she made remixes. From all her time with technology and engineering, sparky had quiet the magical hands in fixing and creating music type technology. She even updated her mixer and added more!

But with all the tools to create music and replay music, who is willing to hear them?

"what are those big things?"

"ooooh! so many buttons!"

"LO'AK NO!"

lo'ak was one inch away from pressing a random button in the mixer. Looking at his friends deathly glare, he backed away. Good choice. The sully kids and spider went to visit the human's one and only musician.

Neteyam looks at all the fancy technology he hasn't seen before. "All of this...to make music?" he asks. The instruments his people use were made of natural materials from the forest. But for humans? Odd devices.

Sparky extends her arms wide, gesturing her equipment's, smiling happily, "yup, with the tools and my magical hands I can create anything! watch this!".

The girl climbs up to her little stage where her main mixer is at, turns it on with shinning lights and begins to work her magic. Tunning up the volume and playing around with other buttons, interesting sounds were released from the speakers.

"DJ IN THE HOUUUUUUUUUSE~!!" she shouts and puts a remix on high blast. Tuk was all for it and began to dance silly with spider. Lo'ak was getting into the rhythm and dance in the most weird movements ever. Kiri was smiling and just bobbing her head to the beat.

Neteyam? He was slightly confused how such odd sounds are created. He carefully observes his friends hands as she moves some circular things and moving small slides to increase the volume or shinny buttons to add a new beat. It was so odd yet...so interesting.

After a few minutes, the "music" ended, with the kids clapping at sparky's performance. She does a playful bow and hops down. Lo'ak gasped and snapped his fingers. "I know what we should do! we can invite many of our friends and others around our age and make a awesome night!" he suggests. The others thought about it and liked the idea, a party just for the kids and no adults around? Heck yeah!

Neteyam agreed to the idea, while he wasn't so fully invested in human stuff, music is an exception. "I think lo'ak is right. This might actually be fun" he adds, tuk and spider were jumping in excitement already chatting about what would they do. Kiri looks at her big brother is some.....skepticism. Not always does neteyam do anything fun without reason.

Word spread fast among the young na'vi, a little party with a human as the performer? Sounds very interesting and exciting. Where the party will be held is in a cave of one of the floating mountains. Chose by sparky as it echo's well and big enough for many to go in and not feel squished.

Setting up her equipment as the others prepare the area to make it inviting with lights and cute festive items. Neteyam stood by and simply observe the human musician. Really there wasn't much for him to do aside from offering assistance but everyone seem to have everything under control.

Getting closer, he peaks over to see what the girl is doing. As though feeling his gaze, she turns and smiles. "Hey, need something neteyam?" she asks.

Nodding slightly, he asks "I still don't understand, How do you make music with so many buttons..?". With a wide grin, she grabs his bigger hand and guides to her equipment. "Lets see if what I will say make sense to you. Ya see, almost all of the sounds I make are recorded from music from Earth. I gathered as many as I could when hells gate was operating. With ease song and beat earth music had, I would take it apart and make something new from it. So far understanding?" she explains.

Neteyam nods slowly, lo'ak or his other siblings would have better understanding at this. Sparky continues, "each button is for a specific sound or rhythm. I just press some to make a nice beat, it is like cooking. Using special items to make the blend perfect. The lights help with the mood and energy that matches with the music". She looks at the sully's boys eyes, seems he understands a bit. Perhaps hands on experience will do better.

"hey, why not try it?" she offers. Quickly neteyam holds his hands up. "No thank you, I rather not touch anything. I could break something" neteyam hesitates. Sparky cackles a bit and shrugs it, "its fine, these things have been through a lot of my rages. A heavy tap wont do much c'mon!". Taking his hands and guides them to her mixer, she begins to explain what each thing does in detail.

"See here is the volumes, that is for the bass and that one is...."

It was amazing! All na'vi teens surprisingly LOVE DJ music. From EDM, funk, techno, and hip hop! Even they have given her the name DJ'otxang! It was a fitting title and will stick by it.

Many shouted, danced and were having the time of their young lives. Lo'ak was a part animal and would brag that he "made most of music". Otxang would roll her eyes but let him be. Letting the vibration of her music flow from her hands to the cave. Everyone feeling the waves of the beat and getting into the mood and matching energy.

This was what she wanted, to share her creativity with those willing to hear. What she dreamed of now achieved. And it is glorious! Oh how she wanted to keep at this. To show the na'vi not everything that is human is evil. To show there is common ground, and what is better than with music?

After the party, everyone left, neteyam stayed with Otxang up at the top of the mountain. Taking a moment between themselves. "Everyone loved you..." neteyam comments. Otxang was playing with a smaller holographic mixer as the both enjoyed the nightly breeze.

She turns to look at neteyam who seemed tired but struggling to sleep. "Hey, you know...not all music is loud. There is some soothing ones too" Otxang says. Neteyam turns to look at her, interested to hear more. "oh yeah? like that?" he asks.

"like this" otxang plays some keys and a soft lovely melody was playing. It wasn't fast pace nor noisy, it was sweet and simple. Almost makes neteyam want to sleep. "Get some rest big boy, we got nothing but time right now" otxang coos as neteyam slowly places his hand on the soft grass, listening to the soft music his dear friend is playing. Sleep at last taking over.

Perhaps Earth music isn't so bad after all.

Otxang = musical instrument (generic term)

funny thing with retro PC hardware is how the further back in history you go, the less you can really expect the mainboard to do for you.

you take a modern mainboard and it'll likely have most functions and features you're likely to need already integrated by default, be it sound, network, WiFi... there's usually even going to be video out from whatever barebones GPU is very likely integrated into the CPU by default, as well as a plethora of USB ports for whatever peripherals or other devices you might possibly want. It's basically almost a complete system in and of itself - just add a CPU, RAM, and some kind of storage medium and off you go. Plenty of boards of today will even have built-in support for plugging in fancy chassis RGB lighting straight into the mainboard itself.

Not so with older mainboards - the one I'm looking at using for my retro build project supports basically the typical two channels of IDE/Parallel ATA for a total of four main drives of whatever combination of hard- and optical, a single floppy drive, two PS/2 ports, one keyboard one mouse, a parallel LPT port, a few serial COM ports, an old AT DIN-5 keyboard port, and - shockingly - two USB ports that I'm guessing are ancient 1.0 standard. And that's it. There's no sound, no graphics, no networking - that's all stuff you have to add via expansion cards. You basically cannot use this computer at all without adding at least a graphics card - the Power On Self Test (or POST) will fail and straight up refuse to boot the system if no graphics card is detected. You go back far enough in history to the original IBM PC and it won't even have integrated hard drive support, necessitating an expansion card just to add fixed storage space.

And this is basically why the PC is such an inherently flexible platform - it was and is built pretty much grounds up to be extensible, providing the option to add just about whatever functions and features you might require via expansion slots built on open standards, allowing pretty much anyone with the prerequisite know-how and manufacturing capabilities to build their own. With the relative ease and low cost of circuit board manufacture of today combined with the ready access to powerful microcontrollers like the Raspberry Pi Pico, there's a good number of hobbyists making expansion cards that can more or less be programmed to do pretty much whatever.

Though this is technically still possible to do on modern PCs, the relative speed and complexity involved with modern PCI Express interfaces makes it far less accessible than making your own ISA expansion cards.
