Tolkien100 Drabble Community

Tolkien100 is a long-running drabble community that originated on LiveJournal and is currently maintained on both LiveJournal and Dreamwidth (the first link in this announcement goes to the Dreamwidth community; the Livejournal community is here). The community focusses on fixed-length or "perfect" drabbles (100 words) inspired by any fictional works by J.R.R. Tolkien, including their movie adaptations.

In its current incarnation (since 2018) there are also regular writing prompts. The current prompt is "Green Leaves".

Look outside AU idea that I like to call Time Travel Fix-It/Role-Swap AU But Only Kind Of And Actually Its Worse(Probably).

Sam gets sent back after one of the bad endings (Fractal Sam has reasonable potential to gain time bending powers imo but Truth sam could also be fun) the problem is he remembers the Visitor just well enough just enough to be on a time limit as he starts slowly re-mutating and losing his mind.

He stops Sybil and Jasper from getting mutated but whoops!!! Doomed from the start!! Sam's memory of the Visitor is enough to bring it to earth anyway!! The world isnt even saved, sad! But it does give humanity another chance since Sam bungled it so bad the first time.

And so Sybil, Jasper and the other astronomers deal with the apocalypse as Sam slowly falls apart in the background. Other changes also probably happen but I havent gotten that far.

my personal headcanon is the vees were unremarkable nobodies when they were alive. i just love it as a thematic throughline for them. they love to let the public of hell speculate on them being famed and acclaimed since before death, but the the truth is they were a d-list failed influencer that got by on cheap controversey and scamming, a broke junkie who burned every shaky bridge he ever had, and a worn-out broadcast production assistant with more rejected auditions and tossed out script pitches than he could count. nobody missed them when they were gone, nobody cared who they were until they were dead.

Hair is such an important part of the story but I really don’t think it gets talked about or utilized as much as it should be. Like the fact they all carry around combs, greaser hair is high maintenance! Constantly fixing it is a bit of a stereotype but it’s also true, oil and gel are much more of a flexible product, it hardens a little but it’s still malleable! Especially when it’s a more complicated hairstyle.

He folded the map and made to drop it over the side of the ship. Drawn up by the best cartographer in Numenor, it was useless now, all geography irrevocably altered. All those books that would have to be rewritten, because they were no longer true! Those that lay not drowned deep, library shelves among the corals.

‘Don’t’ said the first mate sharply. ‘Fold it carefully. We need to keep that one for the historians—not that many left, and it is nearly falling apart.’

She herself was already busy sketching altered coastlines and new islands, recording distances, triangulations, stars.

thanks for tagging me @buckevantommy!! you made me actually write for the first time in like. two weeks? and im eternally indebted to you!!! this is a snippet from migraine tommy that actually builds up to a moment mentioned in the one that's already published, which i am truly stoked about hehehe

“Are you going to get home okay?” she asks instead, and this one he can side step more easily, because it’s what he’s been trying to figure out in his mind as well. If this goes the way he fears and anticipates, it wouldn't be responsible to be driving. His reaction slows down and his vision stops working all the way sometimes; it’s all in all not that different from being drunk, from the driving-a-car perspective. He could probably manage home well enough, since he lives close, but that’s not where he’s going.

A part of him protests that he could just cancel, but the thing is, he doesn't want to. He hasn't seen Evan in almost a week thanks to the way their schedules have lined up; and the terrible, frightening truth is that he misses him. (That doesn't bode well for future Tommy, but he’ll cross that bridge when he gets to it.) 

Also, anything sounds better than going to his empty house, all alone, and waiting for this thing to pass. He can actually imagine very few scenarios that make him feel worse. 

“I’ll just get an Uber,” he explains, shooting for casual and missing just barely, “I don’t want to risk anything in case it gets worse.”

Lucy looks him over again, examining him top to bottom, and then nods. “Yeah, that’s smart,” she says, “Let me know if you need anything.” 

He won’t, and judging by the look on her face, she knows it as well. Tommy nods and thanks her regardless, and with that, the conversation seems to be over.

Summary: A night-hunt goes wrong, and Wei Wuxian is scapegoated for the death of the Jiang Sect Leader and the destroyed core of the Jiang Sect Heir. As punishment, his core is taken and given to Jiang Cheng, and he is stripped of his cultivation credentials and expelled from the sect. What everyone forgot was that Wei Wuxian was wearing the standard issue body camera that each cultivator wore on training missions and high-risk night-hunts. Struggling to make ends meet, Wei Wuxian finds his way to Caiyi Town with the doctor who performed the surgery, a partial core still secretly in place. His application to work at Cloud Recesses is summarily rejected by the hard-edged Second Jade of Lan after an unfortunate initial encounter. But things change when someone hacks into the Jiang systems and releases the footage of what happened. Kay's comments: The series is still a WIP, but the main story is complete! I am so weak for Kizu's modern AUs with cultivation, they are great. Especially the world building and how the cultivation society might function in a modern AU shines in this story. Definitely not a story for fans of the Jiang family, but a story for everyone who wants to see some retribution for the things Wei Wuxian went through. Here, Jiang Fengmian dies during a night-hunt accident where Jiang Cheng's golden core gets destroyed and Madam Yu makes Wei Wuxian give his golden core to him, unfortunately for her, his body-cam is still filming everything. Wei Wuxian finds himself taken in by Wen Qing and her family and we get the sweetest found family and Dadxian vibes here and then meets Lan Wangji as well, who's highly judgemental at first but soon finds himself drawn to Wei Wuxian as well. This story really got it all, the drama, the horny, the softness, the restitution & humor. Excerpt: Still Wei Wuxian forced himself to at least try one last time. “You could also interview me. Have me talk to your best talisman experts,” Wei Wuxian said, forcing himself to keep the desperation out of his voice. “Interviews are scheduled based on receipt of proper credentials and references.” “I don’t have any, at least not right now. But that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t be a great teacher.” “No references, no interview.” “Come on. Look, ask me anything about talismans. You’re an experienced cultivator, right? So you must know enough to at least interview me to see if I know what I’m talking about.” “Simply ‘knowing about something’ is not sufficient. Our lecturers are renown cultivators, and masters in their fields. No references, no interview.” Wei Wuxian felt frustration well up in him, especially at the reminder that Lan Wangji didn’t see him as a cultivator. No one would, in his current condition. Why would they? He didn’t have a functional core, which was the main scale against which all cultivation efforts were measured. He thought he had done a good job of not getting his hopes up about the teaching position, but the suffocating feeling constricting his chest was calling him out for being a liar. He should have known better. Why did he never learn? Some people had luck on their said, but Wei Wuxian had never been one of them. “Right. Of course. Because it would be impossible for someone who wasn’t born to the fucking clan nobility to ever actually be good at something, and the cost of taking the mastery test makes sure that other people can’t do it!” Lan Wangji’s lips parted slightly, like he might say something, but his expression was as opaque and emotionless as before. Wei Wuxian didn’t need to sit around and listen to him defend the clan system. “Good to know that the Lan are just the same as all the other sects,” Wei Wuxian continued, his lips twisting into a sarcastic smile. “Thanks for making that clear.”

arthur and john will bicker about whether or not they're going to see a movie and arthur will refuse to take him to one and john will grump about it and you're like ok this seems pretty normal. a little unfortunate for john maybe but that's a pretty familiar dispute. and then john will go "YES FINE i tried to murder that man. he was too friendly to you and it made me feel bad :( so i tried to kill him. through you. with an axe." and arthur will respond "okay sorry. i'll never speak to him again? is that ok? will that make you happy? sorry" without hesitation and with 100% sincerity and you go oh okay nvm
