“My stomach does weird things when I’m around him. Acrobatic things.” Flash admits as he shuffles his decathlon flashcards. “Like, I feel like I’m going to throw up every time I look at his face.” 

“And you’re telling me this, why?” Michelle asks. Her expression hasn’t changed from her usual deadpan look, though there is a sliver of curiosity to her question that encourages him to press on. 

“Your friends with him.” he says. “And you’re like... really good at figuring stuff out like this.” 

He takes another glances up at her. Her eyebrow is raised slightly, though she overall looks unimpressed. “So he makes you want to throw up?” 

“Yes. No.” Flash exhales heavily as he sinks into his chair. He keeps shuffling the cards, though his mind is far beyond decathlon practice. “I don’t know. He just makes me feel weird. Like I’m sick or something.” 

“Maybe you just like him.” 

Flash balks. “Huh?? What, no way!” he sits up a little straighter. “There’s no way in hell I’d like someone like Peter Parker. He’s such a screw up! And he’s always wearing those dumb pun shirts and making stupid jokes. And do you notice how often he shows up late to meetings? And he’s always covered in bruises, I mean what does the guy even do? How can a guy like him even get beat up anymore, have you seen his muscles? And-” Flash stops talking as he catches her gaze. Michelle stares at him, her lips pulled up in a little smirk like she knows some kind of secret, something she’s holding over Flash’s head. 

Oh. 

Oh.

“Oh my God.” Flash sits back, flashcards long forgotten. The entire world has changed. Who even cares about practice right now when he’s in the midst of this crisis. “I have a crush on Parker.”

Man. No one likes admitting that Peter Parker has some anger issues, huh? Everyone wants Spider-Man to be the sweet, joke-cracking superhero who always stays on the positive and hates having to hurt people. Innocent little cinnamon roll who’s hard to anger and would feel bad if he lashed out. 

Like LMAO as if he ain’t 100% a little shit with anger and control issues just waiting to bust out.

Not MCU Peter, obviously, though he might now, all things considered. But like. Other iterations of Peter Parker? With Flash Thompson? I could write an entire essay on shipping that dynamic and why Peter would be the dom, Flash would be the sub, and why it would benefit both of them way more than the reverse would, and I could site canon evidence for it.

“We’ll have to jump.” 

“What?!” Flash squawks, eyes going wide as he tears his eyes from the dark ravine before them to stare at Peter. “Are you out of your fucking mind? We can’t jump! I can’t even see the bottom!” 

“Do you have any other ideas?” Peter retorts. Both teens turn their heads as the yips and barks of dogs grow louder and closer. 

Desperate, Flash looks in all directions. Everywhere but the chasm of unforeseeable death. They could make a run for it. Follow the edge of the fissure until they find some other way to cross it. But they’re both exhausted. His bare feet ache and bleed. Peter’s too, and his limp as gotten worse since their escape. With despair, he knows neither of them will make it further than this.

“Flash.” Peter’s voice is calmer, enough for Flash to bring himself back into focus. He looks down to see Peter hand with fingers splayed. It’s trembling. 

“You’ll be fine.” he says and it’s then Flash realizes despite everything, despite all Peter has been through, that Peter is still trying to comfort him. “I promise, you’ll be all right.” 

Peter made a similar promise when they were both captured. Kept it even after his secret was revealed, when it became clear no one would be rescuing them. When their captors tried hurting Flash, it was Peter who taunted them and redirected their fury onto him. 

“I don’t need saving, Parker.” Flash replies. He takes Peter’s hand, squeezing it tightly. “We’re in this together.”

Peter flashes a tight smile and they both turn to look down into the abyss. 

The dogs are closer. 

Shouts echo in the dark forest. 

Flash takes a breath and closes his eyes.

And jumps.

Rubs my hands together. These are both pretty fun.

Flash/Peter: Flash's longtime celebrity mancrush on Spidey is cute. It might not work well long-term (Flash has Spidey on a bit of a pedestal, and the very literal Pete tends to take Flash's affectionate joshing as hostility) but hey, those are things they could work out if they tried. They have a lot in common. They've seen each other grow up. Men of simple, selfless philosophies and strong emotions.

I also just want to say that their relationship is really funny from the perspective of Gwen & Harry, who only met them in college. By that time they're pretty evenly physically matched, but they still talk to each other like smug jock vs angry defensive nerd.

"Show some backbone, Puny Parker," Flash says to someone who can lift him with one hand. "Why are they like this?" wonders Harry to himself, probably.

Harry/Flash: I am REALLY ATTACHED to this one and am slowly realizing it seems to be Just Me who cares, but, listen. I have no idea why this is a rarepair. They're seen together all the time. They're friends before they met Pete and they keep being friends even when Peter drifts away. Flash is consistently there for Harry when Peter leaves him in the lurch, at least whenever he's not off in 'Nam. Also roller disco.

On a more serious level, this could have been genuinely narratively satisfying. They've had messy relationships with masculinity due to abusive fathers. They want to settle down, but have had little luck. Flash likes having a mission, something to protect. Harry is stressed out by those head-of-household expectations. Let him be a malewife for someone who will put in the time and attention for him, Marvel. LET THEM FIND PEACE, MARVEL.

And—here we get to my secret HarryFlash Dads agenda—I really want to get to see Flash be a dad to Normie. If anyone could help Normie find a healthy outlet for his little gremlin thirst for Violence and Importance, it would be Flash Thompson, military man and #1 Spidey fan. Normie would love him, and I think it could be healing for Flash to get a chance to be a good father to a kid who looks up to him.

Flashpeter for the ask game

I ship it in the comics but only in the comics. This shit sucks in every adaption (except maybe tasm) because they never let Flash go beyond the bully character

What made you ship it?

I didn't really get into this until really recently. Like I've always been on the fence about it but then I read Dreaming till you hit the truth by softgrungeprophet and then I read the whole series and I was like OH Okay I get it! Like Flash is a million times more interesting when you realize his bully thing is a trauma response and that he's beloved by Peter and the rest of the whole gang, but every adaption misses that!

What are your favorite things about the ship?

Flash is a really interesting character and more often than not that's missed by adaptions and it's only dedicated Spider-Man comic fans that ship it so the Peter that's paired with Flash is always so deep. And this is the ship that has the most compelling unpacking of toxic masculinity and internalized homophobia because that's the core of Flash's character struggle. And don't even get me started on the daddy issues!

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

In order to have an unpopular opinion there needs to be a popular opinion but not a lot of people ship this so there's really nothing controversial to say. So more people should look into it! Or here's my hot take, I hate the mcu Flash, he's an interesting character but he's not Flash Thompson

Hmm... You know, I've been wanting to write more of them! If you have any prompt ideas I might take a stab at it. I'll be honest, I find writing Peter kind of really intimidating. 😅 He's just such an old and established character I worry about doing him justice! But I love him and Flash so much... and I love them TOGETHER.....
