Today was one of the biggest games, if not the biggest game of the season.

As an Arsenal player, playing Chelsea has to be the most fustrating game to play. More importantly as a defender, you have the task of keeping Sam Kerr quiet. Even with Leah by your side, it can be extremely difficult. Despite being your rival, you have the upmost respect for the Chelsea team and all of there players, they are a talented side but that means they bring out the best in you. But it's got to the point where everyone almost expects Arsenal to lose, like we don't even put up a fight against them.

You've played Chelsea many times over the 3 years you have been at Arsenal, your win ratio isn't exactly ideal. You can count on one hand how many times you've actually beat them.

However, Arsenal have made some big changes and improvements this season. With the new signings and players returning from injury, you were hopefull, really hopefull that you could win,

One of the new signings just happened to be your fiance. You and Alessia had known each other since you were about 13 through the England youth teams.

When you were 18, you had made the venture to move to America to go to University and play for North Carolina Tar Heels. Alessia had also made the move, meaning the two of you became a lot closer. Eventually that lead to a relationship when your were both 19.

In 2020, you signed for Arsenal and Alessia had signed for Manchester United. The distance was difficult for the both of you, it definatly challenged your strength as a couple. But it mad you cherish the time you did have together even more.

You had proposed to Alessia in the iddle of Wembley stadium when you had just won the Euros, you couldn'y have thought of a better time to do it. Thankfully, she said yes.

You were over the moon when your soon to be wife decided to join Arsenal. Obviously, you knew that the choice was difficult for Alessia and you knew how much she loved her United. But you couldn't be happier knowing that for both club and country, you get to play alongside the love of your life. You had the hope that Alessia was exactly what Arsenal needed to beat Chelsea.

Anyways, the Arsenal coach had just arrived at Emirates Stadium.

Before your warm up, you had chance to go onto the field to do the pitch check, to speak with some of the Chelsea players and have time with your own teammates.

After talking to Millie and Lauren, two of your fellow Lionesses, you and Alessia began walking around the pitch looking for your families in the quickly filling stadium.

"How you feeling, love?" You asked Alessia as she began tracing patterns on your hand whilst you were walking along, somethin she usually did when she was nervous.

"I'm good." She told you, her voice not at all convincing.

"C'mon Less, you know you don't have to lie to me."

"I'm just a bit nervous, that's all. It's a big game, there's so much pressure."

"Forget about the nerves, the pressures. I have no doubt that you'll be amazing because you always are. My stargirl."

By now, the two of you had stopped walking around. You had pulled Alessia into a hug, lightly kissing her temple, her head resting in your neck.

"I love you"

"I love you too"

Before long, you were stood in the tunnel waiting for both teams to walk out. You always were last in the line, it became an almost ritual for you now. You and Katie were messing around as usual, laughing at something one of the mascots had said.

The game was fairly even at both ends. You and Leah had an amzing partnership at the back which the Chelsea frontline were currently struggling to get by.

At the other end of the pitch, our fowards were doing a really good job of testing Musovic in goal but nothing had managed to get past her.

Until…

45+2' Alessia Russo Goal (A: Y/N Y/LN)

You had sent a long ball from the halfway line, which managed to go ever the Chelsea back line and reach Alessia who kicked it into the back of the net.

She ran over too you and jumped, wrapping her arms around your neck and her legs around your waist.

In the second half, Chelsea brought a tougher energy. The players were acting way harsher towards the Arsenal players, way harsher than they were in the first half. Their tackles were higher, the shoulder barges were stronger and the shirt pulls were far more occurent.

However, even by the 80th minute, you still were in the lead. You and Leah had made no mistakes at the back, the Chelsea frontline couldn't even get a proper shot off without one of you making the crucial tackle or block.

Leading to this moment. Chelsea had a corner in the 83rd minute due to you blocking a Sam Kerr shot.

At Chelsea, you knew that they either aimed for Sam's head or Millie's. They would always aim for one of them two.

You were currently in the main mix of people in the box. You were glued to Millie's side, doing your upmost to mean that the ball didn't go in the back of the Arsenal net.

Guro's delivery was impeccable, the ball heading straight fo the mix of blue and red in the box.

You jumped up to try and deter the ball when you felt something a lot harder than the ball in the side of your head.

Everyone in the stadium watched as Sam Kerr's Boot connected with the side of your head, sending you limp on the floor.

The Arsenal players in shock when you didn't get back up like you usually did. Play was immediatly stopped when you were face down on the ground, not moving.

Your teamates headed in multiple different directions. Some members of both teams gathered round your unmoving state to give you privacy whilst waiting for the medics. Alessia and Katie headed stright for Sam's direction in an angrily manor, whereas Leah and Steph wher among some wsho where straight by your side.

Leah, slowly and carefully began to roll you over so you were on your back. Players faces screwed up in horror as your face was covered in blood, which was now all over your shirt.

"C'mon Y/N, I need you to wake up now." Leah said, whilst scanning your face to see if there was any sort of response.

Alessia's fustration towards Sam had took her attention, her mind thinking you would be up by now. In the midst of it all, she hadn't noticed how you were still on the ground.

Your eyes slowly flickered open, shocked at the amount of light you were faced with. The pain in the side of your head was unlike anything you had ever felt with.

"Less?" Your voice barely scraped a whisper as all you needed was your lover by your side.

"Give us a minute, love. She's on her way."

Leah darted her eyes to Alessia's direction, to see her still going at Sam, emphisizing her fustrations and anger.

Katie had now noticed your state, realising it was way more serious than anyone had anticipated. And was now trying to help Beth steer Alessia away from Sam. Alessia wasn't ever the type to get in shouting matches but everyone knew that you were each others weak spot.

"Less, stop! You've had your say, now leave it!" Beth's unexpectedly firm voice slightly startled Alessia. Meaning her and Katie could pull her away.

"Alessia, she needs you." Katie's words made her turn around to realise that you were still on the floor, blood dripping from your head, with Leah and the medics by your side.

Alessia made little time in rushing over to your side, guilt swarming her as she let her anger overwhelm her.

"Baby, i'm sorry. I'm here now." Alessia said, taking your hand in hers. Watching on as you drifted in and out of conciousness.

The medics were quick to get you on the stretcher and off the pitch to get you properly treated.

The players and stadium erupted in claps as you were took off the pitch and down into the tunnel, towards the medical room.

There was a significant amount of extra time in the match due to your injury, but the players concentration wasn't on the match anymore. It was on whether or not you were okay.

Alessia couldn't even think straight, let alone play a match. As soon as the final whistle went, Alessia disregarded all the usual expectations of post-match and ran down the tunnel to find where you were.

The confusion flooded Alessia as she approached the medical room. Your laugh could be heard from the outside of the room.

Alessia quickly swung the door open to be met with sight of you on the medical bed with pading and bandages covering the side of your head.

"Oh my, Babe your awake." Alessia said as she saw you, her body instantly relaxed a bit.

"Babe?" Your face crumpled up in confusion and so did Alessia's as your reaction to her wasn't what she expected.

She quickly directed her look to the staff on the room who were fast to reassure her that you were quite dosed up on medication.

"I have a wife, you know." You told her factually, crossing your arms over your chest.

"Ohh do you now?" Alessia had to hold in her laugh, but her eyes also softened at what you had just said.

"Yeah, she's so beautiful. The most beautifulest girl ever."

Alessia did now actually laugh at the word you had just created.

"Can you tell me what your name is? Just so I can go and get your wife, I'm sure she would want to know that your okay." Alessia tried to go along with your words, hoping you'd eventually realise that your fiance was stood in front of you.

"Y/N Russo." You told Alessia confidently.

Alessia eyes watered at your confession but she soon thought that the best thing was to just turn around and show you the back of her shirt.

"So you stole her shirt and now your trying to steal her wife."

"Right, love, listen. I am Alessia. Your my fiance, we're not married yet."

"Ohhhhh." You said, the realisation of your confusion finally hitting you.

Alessia came and sat on the bed next to you. You moved over so she could lay down meaning you could rest your head on her chest. Your hands wrapping tightly around her waist as hers lightly rubbed your back.

"I quite like the sound of Y/N Russo, though."

As the morning sun peeked through the curtains, casting a warm glow over your hotel room, you couldn't help but feel a mix of excitement and nerves bubbling inside you. Today was the day of the Semi Final of Euro 2022, and you were going to represent the England women's football team in a crucial match. But despite your skills and experience, the pressure was getting to you.

You knew just the person who could calm your nerves—your husband, who was currently on tour in Argentina. With a deep breath, you picked up your phone and dialled his number. As the FaceTime call connected, your heart skipped a beat, and you eagerly waited for him to answer.

After what felt like an eternity, he finally picked up after the fourth ring. His familiar face appeared on the screen, and you couldn't help but smile despite your jitters.

"Hey, m’heart. Is everything alright?" he asked, concern evident in his voice as he noticed the nerves etched on your face.

You took a deep breath, trying to find the right words. "I'm just... really nervous, H. It's the Semi Final today, and the pressure is getting to me."

Harry's comforting smile spread across his face as he leaned closer to the camera. "You've got this, baby. You've worked so hard f’this moment, and you're an incredible player. I have no doubt that y’and the team will do great today."

You couldn't help but feel reassured by his words, the sound of his voice calming your anxious heart. "I know, but what if something goes wrong? What if I make a mistake that costs us the game?"

Harry's eyes softened as he spoke, "Listen, even the best players make mistakes sometimes. It's a part of the game, and it doesn't define y’as a player or a person. What matters is that y’give it your all, and I know y’will. Just remember why y’play this beautiful game in the first place—because y’love it and y’passionate about it."

Taking a deep breath, you nodded. "You're right. I do love football, and I've dreamed of playing at this level since I was a kid."

Harry's smile widened, and he nodded encouragingly. "Exactly. Hold onto that passion, and remember that no matter what happens out there, I'm proud of you. We all are—y’team, y’family, and y’fans. You're a champion, and nothing can take that away from you."

A surge of warmth and love filled your heart as you gazed into his eyes through the screen. "Thank you, H. I needed to hear that."

You laughed, feeling the nerves starting to fade away. "Deal. Thank you for being my rock, Harry."

Today was the day.

It was the euro 2022 final.

In the back of the taxi that was cruising along the streets of London to Wembley, Harry sat quietly, his mind seemingly occupied with thoughts.

His mother, Anne, noticed his unease and gently placed a hand on his arm. "Harry, darling, is everything alright?" she asked, concern etched on her face.

When England made it to the final, there was no doubt that Anne was missing you play, you were like a daughter to her so she knew she had to be there.

Gemma would have been there as well but she was currently on holiday with her boyfriend, Michal.

Harry hesitated for a moment, contemplating whether to share his worries with his mother. Finally, he decided to open up.

“M’just feeling a bit nervous, Mum," he admitted. "Today's game means s’much to (Y/N), and I can't help but worry about how she'll handle it if the team don't win."

Anne smiled reassuringly, understanding her son's concern for his partner.

“Love, I know how much (Y/N) means to you, and I'm sure she knows it too," she said comfortingly. "She's a strong and resilient person. Win or lose, she'll be alright, and you'll be there to support her."

Harry nodded, appreciating his mother's words of wisdom.

“Y’right, Mum. I just want this victory f’her so badly. She's worked so hard, and I don't want her t’feel disheartened if they don't make it," he said, sincerity in his voice.

Anne patted his hand softly. "I understand your feelings, dear. But remember, it's a team effort, and they’ve all put there best into getting to this final. Focus on playing your best and enjoying the game. The outcome is not entirely in your hands, and that's okay."

As the taxi continued its journey to the stadium, Harry and Anne talked more about the match, memories of their own experiences flooding their minds. As the Women's Euro 2022 final reached its intense 62nd minute, the tension on the field was palpable. The score was zero-zero and both teams were in a tight battle, and you could feel the weight of the moment as you received the ball in the midfield.

With determination in your eyes, you spotted your teammate Ella Toone making a daring run towards the German opposition goal.

You swiftly passed the ball to her, watching as she skillfully controlled it, dribbling past defenders with finesse. The German goalkeeper, sensing the threat, came out of her goal to narrow the angle. In that heartbeat, you knew Ella had an opportunity to make something special happen.

As the goalkeeper advanced, Ella made a split-second decision and skillfully chipped the ball over her head. The crowd gasped as they saw the ball floating towards the net. Time seemed to slow as everyone's eyes followed its trajectory

And then, the stadium erupted in cheers as the ball gracefully sailed into the net, scoring a remarkable goal. You couldn't help but burst with pride as you saw Ella celebrating her incredible achievement. Running towards her, you joined the team in congratulating her.

"Holy moly, Ella! That was absolutely brilliant!" you exclaimed, beaming with excitement.

Ella's face lit up with a mix of joy and disbelief as You pulled her into a tight hug.

Tears of happiness glistened in Ella's eyes as she embraced you back.

The team's celebration continued as you all rallied around Ella, knowing that her goal had put you one step closer to becoming champions. The remaining minutes of the match were intense, with both teams giving their all to secure victory.

In the 79th minute, the unthinkable happened. Despite your best efforts as a defender, the German team managed to break through England's defensive line and score a goal. As they celebrated, a heavy feeling of disappointment settled within you, and you couldn't help but feel responsible for not preventing the goal.

Feeling crestfallen, you stood near your position, replaying the moment in your mind, questioning if there was something more you could have done. That's when your teammate and fellow defender, Millie Bright, approached you with a reassuring smile.

The game was in full swing when the the next ever occurred. As you skillfully controlled the ball, a German player launched a hard tackle, taking out your legs from under you. You fell to the ground, clutching your shin in pain, wincing at the impact.

Your teammates rushed over to check on you, concern etched on their faces.

“Are you okay? Can you stand up?" Georgia Stanway asked, reaching out to offer support.

You took a moment to catch your breath, trying to assess the extent of the injury.

"It hurts, but I think I can stand," you replied, gritting your teeth through the discomfort.

The referee, witnessing the tackle, quickly ushered the medics over to assess the situation. The medics approached you, kneeling beside you to examine your leg carefully.

"Can you tell us where it hurts the most?" they asked gently.

You pointed to your shin, wincing as they touched the affected area. "Right here, it's quite sore," you explained, trying to keep a brave face.

After a thorough assessment, the medics gave you some encouraging news.

“Luckily, there doesn't seem to be any major injury. It might be painful, but you're still able to play," they said, offering a reassuring smile.

In the private box overlooking the pitch, Harry sat with his mother Anne and your parents, engrossed in the Women's Euro 2022 final. As the game reached its intense moments, he couldn't help but feel the tension rising in the air.

And then, it happened. His eyes widened in shock as he saw the brutal tackle unfold on the field. From where he sat, he witnessed the German player taking out your legs, causing you to fall to the ground in agony, clutching your shin.

"What the hell?" Harry exclaimed, jumping up from his seat in reaction to the rough challenge. His heart raced with concern for you, seeing you in pain from the tackle.

Anne, equally worried, reached out and put a hand on his arm.

“Take a deep breath, love. Let's hope the medics can assess the situation quickly," she said soothingly, sharing his concern for your well-being.

Your parents also watched with anxious expressions, their hearts going out to you on the field.

"I hope she's okay. She's a tough one, but that looked harsh," your dad said, his voice reflecting the worry in his eyes.

As the referee and medics rushed to your side, Harry's gaze remained fixed on the field, anxious for any signs of improvement. He wanted to jump down and rush to your aid, but he knew the medics were well-equipped to handle the situation.

"Y’think she'll be alright?" Harry asked, his voice trembling slightly with concern.

Anne squeezed his hand reassuringly. "Let's trust the medics to take care of her. She's a strong player, and I'm sure she'll do her best to get back on her feet," she said, trying to comfort her son.

Amidst the tension in the box, the medics gave their assessment, and it was a relief to hear that the injury wasn't too severe.

“She can still play," Your dad informed the group, echoing the news from the medics.

As the ball nestled into the back of the net, she let out a mix of joy and relief, starting to celebrate. However, amidst the chaos, she wasn't entirely sure if the goal was inside or not.

RWBY: Arrowfell review - An autopsy of an overpriced dissapointment.

RWBY as an IP has not had a good run with their video games since the show inception. While some games definitely gained popularity amongst the FNDM like Amity Arena. None of them have stayed for long, either being discontinued in the case of the online games or simply, not being played in the case of the single player ones. RWBY: Arrowfell is no exception, despite the game being produced by another studio. With this review i would like to talk about it more in-depth after playing it and talk about why it failed.

Did it fail?

First things first. I have to answer the simple question of "Did RWBY: Arrowfell actually fail?". Yeah. It did. While no EXACT data can be gathered due to it not being publically shared, one only needs to look at places like achievement tracking websites of Xbox, Playstation and Steam one can find that only around 500 people in each of these got an achievement for opening up a chest, something that you can do in the first 5 minutes of the game. Even if we agree to be generous and say that 5k people bought the game (Which is more than double the people that got the erliest achievement in game).

That ammounts to 5000 x 30 - 150 000 - Euro earnings.

The game was first teased in 2021-07-09. But considering that the footage of it was already presented it most likely was already being developed for around maybe half a year to 3 months. So let us be generous and say that it was started to get produced in 2021-04-09. It was released in 2022-11-15. Around 19 months of production.

Some of you might ask, why is that important? Well, because with estimating the time of production we can try to estimate how much money was spent making the game, at least at the lower end. By using employee wages. I live in Lithuania, mandated minimum here is 800 Euros per month.

For 1 employee to be paid wages for the entire production period costs around - 15k Euros.

WayForward has a studio of over 50 people. Even if all of them were not working on the game the entirety of the time. If even 10 people did. Which is a low estimate. That alone would suck up all of the earnings the game made.

All of this is guesswork of course. And NO company will share information on whether or not their game did badly (They will only share good news). But even with doubling the numbers that we can see, well. It aint looking good. Of course, its always possible that Way Forward locked a single person in a shed till they made the entire game.

So yeah. As far as i can see. It failed. And at best MAYBE made small profit if RT game them additional funding or money and ArcSystems did not pay for the entire thing themselves.

Price sets expectations

So, now that we are done examining the cadaver, let us speak on what killed it. And what killed it... Is first of all. The price. The quality of a game matters, but at the end of the day, expectations for that quality are set by the price.

Arrowfell costs 30 Euros. For a sidescroller that is an above average price. Most modern sidescrollers the type of Arrowfell cost between 20-25 Euros. Blasphemous - 25 Euros. Hollowknight 15 Euros. Shovel Knight - 15 Euros. Dead Cells - 25 Euros.

The reason i listed these games is for comparison. A 5-10 Euro increase in price might not seem like much, until one considers the differences between these games. The games i listed are considered to be the BEST of the best of modern sidescrollers. They were part of the sidescroller rennesaince that the video games industry experienced not a long time ago, and each of them boasted MANY welcome features. Be it amazing storytelling and boss battles or massive replayability.

Arrowfell cost more than them. And yet... It broke no new ground. In fact, it broke no ground at all. It released as quiet as a whisper with only really RWBY fans knowing and talking about it. As far as the sidescrolling genre goes, Arrowfell gave nothing to it.

It would be one thing if Arrowfell was comparable to the games i listed before. But it simply isnt. Which of course, leads me to the next point.

Simplistic Gameplay

Arrowfells gameplay is not worth 30 Euros. The games i listed before have very responsive combat systems, different weapons, characters, various upgrades that change the way that the game is played etc. The combat in them feels crisp, and the boss battles can even come close to those of Dark Souls in terms of both difficulty and spectacle.

Arrowfells combat is simply... Its Boring. There are basically no differences between the playable characters besides their special abilities. They all feel like the same character. That is bad enough, but there is also another problem. The game has no dodge/block button. Something that MOST combat games have figured out long ago. The only character that has a dodge is Ruby, and thus, for the most part, she is the only truly playable character in the game.

An enemy only has to TOUCH your hitbox. Not with an attack. Just with their HITBOX and you will take damage. You doing damage also does NOT stagger them, so you are forced to either hit and run or hope to god that you will kill the enemy before it attacks.

Some people have complained that playing this game is difficult. I thought it was simply them being bad at the game. But that is not the case. After playing the game myself, the reason why this game is so difficult is because its combat is simply shit. It has no mechanics that would be expected of a sidescrolling game. Enemies getting staggered on hit is something that was figured out in the EIGHTIES. Most of the game also has barely any verticality to speak of except in SOME cases like boss battles. So dont expect to easily jump over most enemies either.

You also have a ranged attack. A ranged attack that drains your health and does half the damage that your melle attacks do... Think about it, in a game about RWBY, the place of the "Its also a gun meme" you are disincentivized to use your GUN attack because it activelly drains your health.

But WAIT, THERE IS MORE! Dont worry trooper, you have 3 health bars to help you deal with the shitty combat system. EXCEPT that once you lose ONE bar it does not fully regenerate and instead leaves you on LESS than half HP.

But heeeey, RWBY has an upgrade system! You can upgrade your characters! That must be exciting! It must be new powers!? Maybe new weapons!? No. Its all percentage increases. You can increase damage/health/gun/health recovery. Thats it..... Yeah... Thats it... Cookie clicker has more exciting upgrades.

Simplicity in video games CAN be a benefit. Shovel knight is a relatively simple game for example. Yes, it has its own quirks, but it gives you TOOLS to deal with your opponents.

RWBY Arrowfell is simplistic to the point of making combat not only boring, but also frustratingly bad. I have unironically seen flash games with better combat systems.

Its boring, its unimaginative. It lacks the BASICS of proper combat systems (dodge/block), and the 4 characters you can choose from might as well be one, because their ONLY difference is their specials.

Flash Graphics

The gameplay is bad. Okay, so, is the game at least pretty? No. No it is not. While the backgrounds can look pretty nice, the design of the in-game characters and platforms feels like babys first game on mario maker. Its very cartoony but not in a stylized way. Its very... Functional. You can understand what the character is, what the background is. But none of it looks good because, once again, there is no stylization to the game. Its all simply functional. And quite frankly, when this kind of game has to compete with games like Blasphemous and Hollow Knight? That just wont cut it. But words in this case simply cannot cut it. So instead, i will let pictures speak for themselves.

Can you see the difference? Where Hollowknight and Blasphemous both are stylized and look AMAZING in their own ways. Arrowfell looks like a pre-fabricated 3d mess. Its looks like plastic. Can you see just how DIFFERENT the goliath looks textured in comparison to everything else?

The RT animated cutscenes, in my opinion, while good, do not save this mess of an artstyle considering this is what you will see most of the game.

Sound Design

I like RWBY music. I truly do, at least the Early RWBY until it all became practically the same. The sound design in the game is fine. It doesnt grate on the ears. Different situations have appropriate soundtracks. Its nothing special in my opinion, its more RWBY. But thats quite frankly fine with me.

Story

I have already written a few threads about the story of Arowfell. To summarize, the story is very simplistic. It follows team RWBY first mission after they got their huntsmen licenses in V7. They go around Atlas investigating Grimm attacks and weird Grimm attracting equipment which came from a defunct Atlas military base, Arrowfell. Most of the new characters presented in the game are inconsequential and barely appear in the game. Like team BRIR. The story is functional, but no more than that.

Conclussion

RWBY Arowfell is an overpriced sidescroller game that offers nothing new to the genre at large and is of IMMENSELLY lower quality, artistically and gameplay wise than any of its cheaper contemporaries. Even for RWBY fans, i would never recommend this game. Watch the story on Youtube, and spend your money on any of the other titles i have listed in this thread, some of them are even on sale.

More amazing games this last couple of months! Mostly from crowd funds, but with a couple of birthday gifts and the first installment of Zine Club in the mix!!

Here's a breakdown with some "why I wanted to check 'em out" hype!

DCC - Sailors on a Starless Sea: I recently got a copy of Dungeon Crawl Classics, and asked folks in the Plus One Exp Discord for recommendations, because I'd seen a few of 'em talk about DCC. This had at least two people recommend it! So, I'll be skimming it.

Emerald Templars: I was initially intrigued because of the South American creators and focus of the game, and can't wait to explore it further. The art and the overall quality of the book look great, and I definitely love seeing Fantasy stuff that's not Euro-centric.

Lichoma: Billed as a "meatpunk" game, I really needed to know what that meant. It's a dark, violent and interesting game with some neat mechanics (at least per the stream I watched).

Convictor Drive: This hit crowdfunders around the same time as the Dark Souls 5e came out, and I think while the Cowboy Bebop RPG was crowdfunding. So I was on a kick of really wanting to see more Japanese games get translated and brought stateside, which this was. It's an exosuit procedural super-detective kind of game, which intrigued me, even beyond the JP angle.

Overisles, Inspirisles, and the Shaping Deck: This one I'd been aware of for a while, having gotten Overisles in a Bundle years ago. It's an RPG that uses American or British Sign Language as part of the mechanics. It's supposed to help you learn ASL or BSL, and I've always been curious about those languages. The books are gorgeous, and they came with a pin and 2 really beautiful booksmarks

The Wizards & the Wastes: Big fan of Snow's work in general, but what got me (aside from the Howl's Moving Castle touchstone) was the ability to use art you already own (books, poems, music) as a focus for your character's magical abilities. It's a really gorgeous book and I've been wanting to bring it to a table. I also really love the mechanic where you bring someone from outside the game in to solve disputes.

Crush Depth Apparition: Spooky submarine horror is a good concept on its own, but I was also excited because it just looked so stylish. Plus, another thing through Snow's store, so I was into it.

Girl by Moonlight: Sailor Moon but make it Forged in the Dark. I'm in! Partner and I have been watching the original Sailor Moon. I've been playing and enjoying Beam Saber, and I kind of love the way FitD games deal with character growth.

Wreck this Deck: The pitch is: You trap demons in a deck of cards, and actually mark the cards as you go, creating a neat artifact of play as you go. So after a few plays, you have this really ominous deck of cards, some of which are super messed up or even missing. It's a rad idea, and I'm looking forward to messing up a $3 Bicycle deck.

Guys in Chairs/Spin The Bottle: This is part of the Zine Club shipment for the month, but I'm also a big fan of Dillin's work. I heard them play Guys in Chairs on Party of One, and it's a great game.

1978 - The Night They Came Home (and a Trick-or-Treat bag with rollable tables because why not): I backed this before I ever saw Halloween, but having gotten into those movies this past spooky season, I'm really into this. 2-player game where one of you is the killer, and the other is the person trying to run.

Fox Curio's Floating Bookshop: This looks beautiful, pastoral, and I love a good spiral binding. It's a journaling RPG about someone who runs a bookshop that floats up and down the river. It's super cute and I love it.

Nasty, Brutish, and Long: Friends at the Table put me in a revolutionary action mood, but I also really like the work that Not Writing Games puts out. Also been on a bit of a FitD kick lately (as previously established). I'm also going to pass by making jokes about the name.

The Corrupted: The other half of the Zine Club shipment for the month. I've heard extremely good things about this, and zombie horror is a fantastic genre in general. So I'm hype to dig in.

Hark! Says the Frog Magus: When this was first announced, I was bummed because I'd just lost my job and wasn't sure I'd be able to justify a purchase. So, a friend preordered it as a birthday gift (same friend later got me a different gift because they're a monster). Sin's work in general is rad, and this is adorable but also a great adventure, so I needed it.

I will take a second to highlight these two!

They came from the Plus One EXP Zine Club, and the sticker did too! And it's such a rad thing. A monthly subscription that brings some zines to my door, supports indie creators, and keeps the lights on for a community I care about. All Wins all the time.

I also received the expansion for Return to Dark Tower. I haven't really played Covenant yet, but I'm excited to try it out, because it adds some rad new models and some cool new classes, and a whole bunch of new skulls for the Tower.

Craving: Time off. I've been working non-stop for the past 8 months or so (with Christmas being the only exception) and I'm feeling super drained right now. Luckily, there are a few short trips coming up in April and July, so there is that!

What are you wearing right now: Basic black jeans and a white knitted sweater. It's spring but it's still flipping cold in my apartment. Ooph!

How tall are you: 168 cm or 5'5 feet (I guess?)

Piercings: Just the two for my earrings. As I said, I'm *very* basic. :')

Tattoos: Currently I got two but I plan on getting more later this year. Gotta save up some money first.

Glasses? Contacts? I got 3 different glasses (transparent, gold and brown frames) and contacts because I like to switch things up.

Last drink: I'm currently having some coffee with oat milk aka The breakfast of Champions. Or so I keep telling myself XD

Last thing you ate: Chicken wrap with lots of cheese. It was amazing.

Favorite color: My taste in color(s) shifts constantly but I'm currently obsessed with green in various tones. I keep getting back to like a warmer green because it makes me feel very cozy. But I also adore a good color combo of orange and violet/lilac or yellow and dark blue. It depends on my mood.

Current obsession: Truth be told, because of the current state of my mental health, I have a hard time being obsessed about anything. It's not like I can't enjoy things (I know that that feels like and I don't want to get back to *those days*) but there's not hyperfixation that lives rent-free in my head. And you know what? It feels terrible! I miss the feeling of being utterly obsessed about something. I crave that level of excitement, honestly!

Unrelated Obsession: Okay, I guess this means non-fandom obsessions. I do have one of those! A short while back, I read a book by the title "Genghis Khan and the Making of the Modern World" which was fascinating. I loved that it was not Euro-centric and instead focussed on the achievements of Genghis and his successors. I've been gobbling media with the same or similiar topics – including finally playing "Ghost of Tsushima" which send me reading up on the Mongol invasion of Japan. It's been an intriguing ride!

Any pets: I'm too allergic to have cats, dogs, and other animals and I hate it. I want a little doggo so badly... 💔

Do you have a crush on anyone: IRL? Not anymore. I used to have a crush for most of last year but since he started ghosting me a few months back, I decided to focus my attention elsewhere. I'm *done* with dating and have been for the past couple of years. As for fictional characters... I have to go with Solas, although (as I mentioned) my excitement has died down somewhat. I still love that boy to death but I'm not as obsessed as I used to be.

Favorite fictional character: How dare you make me chose one?! I have a trillion fave characters and they're all precious to me ;_; No, I will not pick one because I truly can't!

The last place you traveled: I went to Cologne, my hometown, three weeks ago, but I assume that doesn't count as traveling. I think my last real vacation was in 2019 when I travelled to the Leipzig Book Fair. Oh my... 😅 (And I was wondering why I felt so drained all the time, lol. Dang... what a reality check. This hurts!).

i'm not actually that fond of Ballister being this big puppy-eyed guy? i haven't actually read the comic, but i do remember getting a distinctly different feel from his character, from the little stuff i did read. and it's not that i don't like his character, but compared to Nimona, he almost falls a bit... flat? maybe like his edges was sanded down? but i love their relationship, and their dynamic is so found family. i want them to live together in that shitty ass tower and i want them to be okay ;__;

also the Ballister/Ambrosius relationship truly did nothing for me. like! i didn't dislike it! and i think i could like it, but.. i 'unno. again- it falls a bit flat for me

but oh my god, the later half of the movie is so good. the whole Gloreth reveal is just. it's so good. and everything about Nimona's breakdown is fantastic and so well done, and i just. ARGH. i love her. i adore her. we love Nimona <3

2nd March: Before the Night

surprisingly well done little horror puzzler, with some really pretty art, and a nice atmosphere. i think i wanted to say more on this one, but i forgot to write it down so. whoops

it does remind me of the classic RPGmaker horro games, and that's meant entirely complimentary. the world building is also very funky, like i really like the role reversal of the pet dynamic. and the later reveals do very much stick

it's honestly just a fun little game, well worth a look!

26th March: Here Comes Niko!

cozy 3D platformer that's also a collectathon, with really fun art, and some nice vibes. as a platformer it's a bit flat, but it's honestly just a really nice time, and a fun way to disconnect your brain for a bit

27th March: TWWWR

a small little action game with some seriously amazing graphics and vibes. i've been meaning to buy this for years, and finally got around to it, and man. that's some tasty ass atmosphere

as an action game it's pretty fun. not overly deep (it's like, two hours) but fun and engaging enough. it can be a bit fiddly, but it's like. three euros. it's literally fine

my favourite part is, without doubt, the atmosphere. the pixel art is gorgeous, like genuinely just some of the prettiest shit i've seen. every floor is a delight, and i loved just- running around in this tower. seeing each screen, enjoying the visuals. it's got a bit of a Momodora vibe, but also plays nothing like it, in my opinion. but it's got the same energy, the same mysticism and refusal to really tell you much, and i liked it a whole lot

1. bayern 22/23 3rd kit (the blue-black and red one) - it's the concept of the design that makes me love this kit with my whole heart....that schafkopf card game elements and concepts on the kit design really indentifies the bavarian itself and it truly fascinates me the most ❤️❤️

2. bayern 21/22 3rd kit - idk why but somehow bayern's 3rd kit from these two past consecutive seasons really gave that cool concept that really indentifies bavarian elements on it....and for this kit, with the elements of bavarian alps on the design once again makes me amazed on how bayern being identifiy as <3333

3. liverpool 23/24 away kit (yup that purple kit 💜) - goddd i literally don't know how to say but it's just so beautiful and i just fell in love with that kit in a first sight....i mean the purple shade on that kit is just so pretty and personally that's my fav shade of purple if you ask me <33

4. germany nt wc2014 kit (both home and away) - it's all about the nostalgia inside 10 years ago...i mean in terms of design it really looks so good but the most meaningful thing about this kit is how gnt squad back during 2014 managed to win the world cup and it'll be remembered by time to time ❤️❤️❤️

My Thrift story

Hey there, fellow thrifties! I've been in the thrift game for a while now, and I can confidently say that about 70% of my apartment is decked out with thrifted treasures. But it wasn't always like this. In this blog post, I'm here to spill the tea on how I went from a Shein shopaholic to a thrifting girly. Get ready to dive into my thrifting story!

Chapter 1: The Shein Warrior Saga

About two years ago, I was absolutely obsessed with online shopping, and when I say obsessed, I mean OBSESSED! I was ordering clothes left and right, I practically lived among the cardboard towers. My delivery guy probably wanted to fight me , and honestly, I can't blame him. Living with my boyfriend at the time meant enduring his constant eye rolls, especially when my oders were from Shein.

Chapter 2: Berlin Thrift Adventure

My boyfriend and I used to make regular trips to Berlin, and on one trip, we stumbled upon a thrift store. It was the first thrift store I found genuinely nice. You see, most of the thrift stores I knew felt like they sold clothes straight out of grandma's closet. But this one, oh, it was different. Looking back yes it was overpriced and yes it was commercialized but still, it was cool enough to get me hooked. I think what pulled me in the most was that there were pieces that were really unique and that you couldn't get online.

So for me that meant: Goodbye, basic bitch fashion!

Chapter 3: The Thrift Lifestyle

As I got deeper into the thrift game I learned new perks:

Quality Over Quantity:

Vintage clothes are made from natural materials, not mass-produced synthetics like Shein clothes. Also, I doubt that Shein items can least a decade.

Pushing Boundaries:

You never know what you'll find, and when you fall in love with a piece, it challenges you to get creative and incorporate it into your wardrobe. This has pushed me out of my comfort zone often.

Saving Money:

Thrifting might have gained popularity, leading to people having the audacity to charge 90 euros for a shirt that somebody wore in the 70s, but there are still hidden gems out there. Where you can get a good deal.

Chapter 4: My Thrifting Evolution

I initially started thrifting for clothes, but it didn't stop there. Now, I've embraced thrifting for furniture too. Since moving this summer, a whopping 70% of my furniture is thrifted. Thrifting has evolved into a full thing in my life. Even when I'm on vacation, I can't resist checking out thrift stores in other countries. It's amazing how my mindset about spending money, quality, and the environment has transformed.

One-To-None Re-makes/masters

It's no secret that Remakes never live up to their original counterparts, and while they offer a similar experience in the end the original offered more in terms of content or even detail. Remasters while being a Modern Port still finds a way to strip something from the game, allow me to explain.

REMASTERS

Remasters again while provide players with a Modern Port of their favorite game and usually in a collection (Devil may cry, Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill, Dragon Ball Z, etc.) and marked with a lower than norm price. However if we take Metal Gear Solid 3 HD you'll see that while it Mimics the Euro/Subsistance release, you'll see that the entire 2nd disc is missing aside from the Duel Mode which IIRC was on disc 1 as a completion reward. then lets take a look at The Last of Us Part I the "Remake" of the first game but we all know that its a glorified Remaster of the Remaster for PS4 and what happened to it? The entire MP aspect was cut in favor to have people buy Part II in order to play against people when the Remaster offered it. But not all Remasters have the MP portion in them. Other titles that have had a remaster with their Multiplayer modes cut are followed but not limited to;

Uncharted 4 (PC release)

Mass Effect 3

Crysis Remastered Trilogy (co-op and MP)

REMAKES

Remakes are a whole different bag as they try to incapsulate the nostalgic feeling while implementing new or improved features to make it feel Modern. Resident Evil 2 is one of those games that look amazing in terms of graphical quality, however the lack of the zapping system featured in the original 1998 release back on the PS1 that allowed any actions taken by Leon or Claire and having that decision effect the other in their B game (If Claire A uses a shutter to block zombies then in Leon B those same shutters will open after short circuiting bringing those zombies into the RPD). This is instead replaced with an altered path of the same exact set of events only having the starting point, puzzle solutions, Item Locations, and final boss being changed, other than that 1st Run and 2nd Run are the same between the two characters and yet the game unlocks the other characters 2nd run when completing the 1st run of the other character.

Now with Remakes I get that at times they're more reimagining's than anything but another offender In the case of piss poor remakes is Resident Evil 3. What makes this Soulless to the original 1999 release is a lot when compared to RE2, RE3 in this regard drops the Live Selection system (timed choices), altering paths depending on where you go like going to the Restaurant to meet Carlos and finding one of the gems in the press office where if met in the press office then the gem would be in the basement of the restaurant, an actual randomly encountered nemesis, and the lack of a subtle lab. The Lab was merely located under the hospital as oppose to it being hidden within a factory.

Another remake that seek to improve everything visually and implement features from later games would be the Yakuza Kiwami remakes, while not bad like other remakes there's mainly some level of detail that was better represented in the PS2 release. The scene that comes to mind is in Kiwami 2 when fighting the Go-Ryu Clan at the Tojo HQ with cars blocking the entrance rather than what they did in Kiwami 2 and just have the AR restricted area field pop up. That said the Kiwami games are still good for those looking to get into the series although if you plan to play them i strongly recommend you play through 0 first as both Kiwami games do have call backs to that game. I wont dwell anymore on this game series as Cvit covered this in more detail addressing a plethora of issues the remakes have when compared to the PS2 releases.

About Uncoven...

I said I would not make posts about Uncoven (other than replying to asks) and I didn’t. But the game is now out and I gave it a chance so that I could make an informed opinion. Because yes, I’m the first to admit to have been biased from the beginning due to the whole Priya/Koori misandry situation, but I tried to be fair and take an actual look before making my final judgement on it. Here are my thoughts:

The MC

The main complain about Nyx the MC so far is that they are of male sex and non-binary gender, so then usual Beemoov fanbase has not been able to relate. Also customisation is non-existent and you can only choose between three avatars which are identical except for their clothes and haircut. I personally don’t care too much about this because I don’t self-insert (although I do prefer having a female MC). I can look past this, the problem is just that I don’t like the design at all. Personal taste. I also dislike the fact that their personality is very meek, all their friends are overpowered, and we keep hearing about how cool and perfect their are, while Nyx is the poor lost soul who doesn’t know what they want from life etc etc same old story.

The Characters

Other than Nyx, there are 6 friends. Again, personal taste but I don’t like the art style, as mentioned before they are all presented as perfect with no faults, I don’t know how many times I read how amazing each of them is in the half chapter I played. 

They are also VERY stereotyped. Like Silas, for example, is the black fat guy who only talks about food, drinks and partying. Will, the ‘crush’, is the most basic white popular rich boy all the girls swoon for but with nothing really interesting going on for him (apparently). Kristen is the always cheerful extrovert gay best friend. Basically, I’m bored. Oh and there’s also Mavka, the pretty, feminine girl, is clearly one of the writer’s self insert (she even gave her her same birthday), and we keep complimenting her. I don’t like self-insertion, but it feels so icky to me that a writer would make the player compliment and swoon for a character that represents her? Feels like a creepy power move. 

Nyx: “Mavka, her musical laugh, her eyes that shine with joy. Her fragile beauty almost makes me want to cry.”

She also seems to be into the only LI, constantly touching and complimenting him, so this looks like a love-rival situation.

The Cost

During the beta, people could get 100 free APs per day meaning reading 50 lines of dialogue for free every day. They must have thought it was too generous because we now get only 70 making up 35 lines (plus you can get 12 additional APs by watching ads). This is worse than Moonlight Lovers where you can read 50 lines per day. I didn’t play the whole episode, but checking with beta testers and other people, it seems that if one were to buy APs, one episode costs between 10-20 euros, the whole game is made up of 7 main chapters + 3 endings, meaning that the monetary equivalent of this game is around 150 euros. (+/- 20 euros I’d say).

Art and Music

I already mentioned I don’t like the characters design, however I absolutely love the backgrounds, I think they are very well made and give charm to a setting that had basically already been recycled from Moonlight Lovers (spooky manor in the woods). Also, the music is beautiful and, together with the animations, really sets the mood. My only issue is that it’s barely at the beginning of the chapter and had no sound other than some effects throughout the game, but maybe it’s a bug that will be fixed, I don’t know.

Gameplay and Writing

This is the part that upsets me the most and ultimately will prevent me from playing this game. Despite Beemoov advertising the game as an otome, this isn’t one, there is only one crush, and the 3 different routes/endings available are: 1 romantic, 1 friendship, 1 solo/personal-power. There are many choices throughout the game, each option leading to one of the endings, it’s exactly the same system as Moonlight Lovers. The problem is... that it’s INCREDIBLY easy, but easy in a really childish way. There is no complexity in this writing, no ambiguity, nothing that makes you pause for a minute wondering oh dang what am I going to pick? I have spent the past two years testing ML and literally LOSING MY MIND trying to figure out the routes. Yes, it was difficult, and frustrating, but entertaining as hell, and at the end of each route you feel like you have accomplished something. Uncoven is basically the child version of that. Example:

There is no need of guides in this game because there is zero doubt on which path each choice is leading to.

Now, second point about the writing: the romance route is written in a way where Nyx has zero thoughts in their mind other than Will and falling in love. They seem to be completely blind about anything else. And I’ve seen this before, albeit with much better writing: this is Raphael’s bad ending. Eloise used to act exactly in the same way there, with Raphael being her only interest and believing him about everything and following like a puppy. The difference is that was a bad ending for a romance that had 3 options, including a good one where Eloise could be more independent and call out his bullshit. Here there’s no such option unless you want to renounce the romance completely. This is a cautionary tale: there’s gonna be no happy ending with Will as this is a toxic relationship. If you are jumping into this game for romance don’t do it, pick the power route instead, Nyx may end up betraying everyone and taking power for themselves. Much more entertaining than being lectured.

And this brings me to the final point. Yes, again, the blatant misandry: romance = bad, white cis men = bad. I have been showed this rhetoric twice in half chapter already. First, when Will buys groceries for everyone and is mocked for it instead:

and the second is when Rose is telling Nyx that she broke up with her boyfriend with this random assertion out of nowhere

So, here we go, these are my thoughts. I have heard people complaining about other things like the description of magic and wicca (of which I know nothing so I am not in a position to comment on it), or bad representation of poc and queer characters (again, I can’t exactly comment on this, so I’ll leave it to people better informed than me).

All in all, I think the game could’ve had potential if it weren’t for these factors, but I can’t even comment on the plot because between complimenting all the friends, the only thing that happened in half a chapter was a broken mirror. I guess spookier things are going to happen in the future but I won’t see them because my journey with this game ends here. If anyone is going to keep playing please let me know your impressions :)

Ghosts watch the Euros?

Am I about to write 1000 words of cringe about dead fictional characters watching a football tournament?? yes I am and I'm thrilled!! XD

This primarily focusses on Pat btw but most of the ghosts feature a bit too.

So basically Alison didn’t really care that much about the Euros before they started, Mike however was decently optimistic regarding Engliand’s chances but isn’t the world’s biggest sport fan. But one evening they’re all watching TV and stuff and then there’s one of those animated ads that play before any major sports competition starts and Pat sees it and gets incredibly excited.

He hasn’t been able to watch a major football tournatment (live) since he was alive because Heather never had sport on at all. He begs Alison that he gets control of the TV during England matches and after using the whole “pleasseeeee I’m no trouble, I don’t usually ask for much!” Alison agrees to adjust the TV rota, much to the others ghosts disgust (the Captain is peeved about his afternoon day time TV History Channel documentaries being overwritten, and Fanny’s evening period dramas often get pushed aside but Alison eventually manages to use the Sky Box to rearrange everything for them).

For most of the group stages it’s just Pat watching, Mike will occassionally sit in but is genrally on his phone. Julian will also offer the occassional comment which Pat just rolls his eyes at and tells him to go back to his computer games. Also Pat is amazed just quite how young the team is but I digress.

So once it becomes apparent that England are doing surprisingly well (and Mike’s mates stop talking about anything else at the pub) Mike starts paying attention and by extension Alison sits in bringing multiple ghosts in her wake.

Kitty doesn’t like the idea of competition much and just wants people to have fun, she gets upset when people get kicked out but congratulats them for doing their very best. Thomas however, stands behind the sofa muttering about how it’s a barbaric sport and the lowest form of entertainment (“Polo!! Now that takes real skill!!)

The Captain wasn’t much of a football fan in life (cricket was much more his bag) but he’ll gladly sit and enjoy some friendly competition, anything he can get these days to be proud of his country. Robin doesn’t understand organised competition much but he quite like the idea of playing a game like that, he kinda misses running around and burning of energy, physical performance was super important for hunting when he was alive.

Anyway, once England makes it into the quarters (and Mike claims to have been totally invested from the beginning) Mike and Alison both start to get more and more involved, they decide to buy England flags and bunting to put across the front of the house - much to the Captain’s pleasure cause it reminds him a bit of VE Day.

Alison does actually manage to convince everyone to gather round for the final - even Fanny who literally couldn’t care less is overwhelmed with patriotism and hovers in a nearby armchair. Pat parks himself on the floor right in front of the TV so he can hear the commentary even when the others are rambling on about their analysis of the game (their analysis is incredibly poor given they’ve been dead for centuries - Kitty announces that the strikers should “use thier hips more” and no one is quite sure what that means but Thomas does suggest sending correspondence to Southgate to give him that advice.)

Anyway (I keep going off on tangents) the final obviously begins with England scoring mad quick which erupts the TV room into cheers. Mike jumps up to celebrate and puts his foot into where Pat is also sat cheering - Alison has to catch him around the waist to pull him back towards the sofa to stop Pat from gagging.

Pat then starts going on about how, with a start like that, there’s no way England can lose now. Julian rains on his parade very quickly and tells him worse things have happened and Alison jokes about what a show off Julian will be if he’s right and England lose… (Julian is obviously incredibly patriotic and wants England to win but he wants to be right much more).

Thomas quickly begins to think of himself as an expert at this “pauper’s sport” and starts to shout the generic “I know nothing about football but don’t want people to question me” phrases (“they had better begin playing it forward more, they shan’t achieve anything with cowardice like this!!)

They remain kinda optimistic going into the second half apart from Pat who is potentially the only one who recognises England slolwy losing control - but, much like with his scouts, his puts on his usual optimistic front to stop the team from becoming deflated (the team can’t hear him becuase a) he’s not at Wembley and b) he’s been dead four decades but it’s just his natural reaction).

As soon as Italy score, that’s when the deflation starts to set in. They all become slightly quieter until England start mounting an attack and then the shouting begins again.

Pat tries to explain the concept of extra time to the others but few understand and begin suggesting their own tie break ideas. Kitty suggests a draw would be better, everybody wins. Fanny suggests someone should concede (she doesn;t specifiy who but it’s very much implied). Robin’s idea is to continue with extra time then release a bear onto the pitch at a random point “for the drama” (I would watch that though).

But no, Pat and Mike are both very quiet throughout extra time. Thomas is thrilled because he believes Southgate has listened to his ongoing generic advice to “bring on Grealish” - realistically he’s peeved Love Island isn’t on, he likes to make fun of it and announce repeatedly how “the modern world has no concept of love!!”

Once it gets to penalties Kitty is off. She can’t stand the tension and covers her eyes to avoid having to watch somebody lose in this way. Mary sits beside her on the sofa petting her hair like “ooh cry not, ’tis but a game child” which really doesn’t help the mood. After every single shot, there’s just a little burst of gasps and strangled noises from everyone except Pat who is just waiting and praying that his first tournament in 40 years is going to be a dramatic win.

When England (spoilers from over a month ago) lose, silence falls across the room before Julian finally breaks it: “I don’t mean to say I told you so but…” he is interrupted VERY quickly by shouting from everyone else. Eyes quickly fall on Pat who hasn’t said anything since the penalties began, he hadn;t even turned to look at anyone else yet. He slowly stood up and said with a very fake smile “well it was a deserved win… if you’ll excuse me” and then he fazes through the wall behind him never to be seen again.

“Julian, that really was uncalled for,” Alison tells him. Pat seems normal for the next few days but most people can tell he’s very disappointed, especially as Mike has to get the ladder out again to do the really sad “flag taking down ceremony” everyone did the day after.

Pat’s finally brought out of his slump by Kitty who asks him what he would do if his scouts failed at something - he says he’d tell them they did really well for trying their best and give them some tips to improve. “Exactly,” Kitty says. “You’d still be proud of what they achieved, right?” All the ghosts are pretty excited by the prospect of a world cup next year.

So there we go,, cheers for the ask!! I apologise for this being cringe as fuck and I really hope it gets to the right people XD I’m having a day of trying to finish as many projects as I can over the next few days before series 3 so I can essentially start afresh after the new episodes are out - I know I’m going to have a lot of ideas and inspiration.

The Budget Garden 3: Seven Seas (V-Premium)

Hello Cardfighters. So this post might be quite unique in the aspect that I don’t really have anything to really “teach” or that much to discuss either to be honest. The Seven Seas archetype has been a mainstay of the Granblue Clan, as a powerful sub-clan that initially dominated the G-era meta during late 2016 up until early-to-mid 2017, where it was hit and left to die as G was entering a new format.  People are only familiarized with them due to their very boysterous and loud presence in the G-meta game, but when the time came for them to be rebooted in the new V-series format, which, at the time, didn’t really have any truly cheap budget decks, their aggro playstyle was pushed to the limit in order to create a cheap deck that could steal games from the otherwise very slow and methodical meta of Nightrose and Scharhrot Vampir.  The formatting for this instalment is going to be quite unique as we are required, maybe, in a way, even FORCED to run every single card that includes “Seven Seas” in the card name. Therefore, there won’t be much in terms of options for tech choices, as about 90% of the deck is already decided for us. 

Let’s begin with our grade 3 line-up… which also just so happens to be the ONLY grade 3 unit that we are going to be playing in our deck, Lord of the Seven Seas, Nightmist.

To the majority of people that are having a full on Aneurysm reading this skill, I don’t blame you. The Treasure Markers are just that, markers that are placed on your circles, and that give off specific skills and unique abilities depending on the unit that is in top of them. Think of them as an indicator to know when your cards have their unique abilities and skills, instead of having to keep track of them yourself. Spoiler alert for every single card incoming, every single memeber of the Seven Seas archetype have the skill that allows you to obtain a treasure marker on one of your circles when they perform a successful attack.

Nightmist, apart from having really great artwork, is the main unit of our strategy, and the only real “payoff” for us actually obtaining these force markers. Do not be fooled by the shiny “protect” sumbol on the upper-leftmost corner, this is an insanely fast and loose Aggro deck, aiming to obtain 6 Treasure markers in order to perform 11 attacks in a single turn. This is perfectly reflected in Nightmist’s skill. The first skill allows for your backrow to attack your opponent’s units, just like a test-run version of Magnolia, as well as allowing them to intercept from the backrow, which seems very random but it will become obvious in a second. 

The second skill gives your entire board a very nice boost. With 6 Seven Seas units on your circles, it gives your board an overall surplus of 30k power, while also allowing your grade 1 units to hit force numbers, effectively allowing you to rush against all 3 gifts. 

The third skill is awesome, but really hard to pull off. If you have laid 6 successful attacks on your opponent and their units, Nightmist gets an effect that allows your ENTIRE board to restand, effectively giving you 5 bonus attacks.

Sound awesome, right? In the 25-30 games I have played to playtest for this very blog, I have managed to resolve this final skill on about 5 or 6 of them, either because at that point of the match I had either won the game or lost the game. It pops up SO LATE into the game that you might as well have already won, but when you do get to pull it off, it feels amazing … just don’t expect it to come up that often.

Nightmist is a hilariously bloated card, clearly being designed to fix holes that existed with this strategy before he even got printed. Nightmist is also the most expensive part of the deck, as a playset will set you back about 5-10 euros. 

Moving forward to the grade 2 line-up, the units in this segment arent nearly as complicated or long-winded as Nightmist, as the grade 2 line up does an excellent job of adding some much needed consistency and raw power. 

Our Grade 2 line-up consists of three units, Nightspinel, Negrolazy and Slash Shade.

[AUTO](VC/RC):When placed, COST [Counter Blast (1) & put two cards from the top of your deck into the drop zone], and call up to one card with "Seven Seas" in its card name not named "Seven Seas Pillager, Nightspinel" from your drop zone to (RC).

[AUTO](VC/RC):When its attack hits, choose one of your (VC) or (RC) without any Treasures markers, and put a Treasures marker. [CONT](RC):During your turn, if there is a marker on this unit's circle, this unit gets [Power]+15000.

[AUTO](VC/RC):When placed, you may call a grade 0 from your drop zone to (RC).

  There really isn’t a lot to say, Cardfighters, these are the two types of skills that were really needed for some added consistency and power. Nightspinel not only fulfills the role of the “waifu" card in this archetype, she’s also a very nice way of setting your drop zone up for certain ressurection effects, but she is a single card that can provide more board advantage in a deck that calls a lot of its hand onto the board. Also, she’s very cute, which is also a plus. And in the category of “not so cute, but much more playable” comes Slash Shade, a card with a very simple, yet powerful effect. He can make himself a 24k attacker by just existing on a circle with a marker on it, key word being ANY marker. A protect II gift, which manifests itself as a marker on a circle also works with this skill, so a protect II market makes Slash Shade, even while unboosted, a 29k attacker. Couple that with Nightmist’s second skill, 3-4 of your circles are most likely going to be attacking from the backrow for 29k-34k.  Slash Shade is, in a complete turn of events, the true boss monster for the Seven Seas, as he is by himself an attacker that requires a 20k or more shield from your opponent per attack, making him the unofficial win condition for this deck.  Negrolazy seems like an odd addition, as getting a trigger back onto your board seems rather useless. It is. However, Negrolazy has great synergy with a grade 0 unit that we will be discussing in a little bit.  While the grade 2 line-up is quite great for what it does, the most important aspect to any Blitz/Aggro strategy lies within the Grade 1 line-up, as it needs to provide some sort of value/recursion to offset the early hand loss. The grade 1 units that we will be using are the following: Witch Doctor of the Seven Seas, Raistutor Seven Seas Helmsman, Nightcrow Skeleton Sea Navigator Witch Doctor of Powdered Bone, Negrobone

[AUTO](VC/RC):When its attack hits, choose one of your (VC) or (RC) without any Treasures markers, and put a Treasures marker. [CONT](RC):If there is a marker on this unit's circle, this unit gets "Intercept".

[AUTO](VC/RC):When its attack hits, choose one of your (VC) or (RC) without any Treasures markers, and put a Treasures marker. [ACT](Drop zone):If you have a vanguard with "Seven Seas" in its card name, COST [Soul Blast (1) & retire a rear-guard not named "Seven Seas Helmsman, Nightcrow"], and call this card to (RC).

[ACT](RC):COST [[Rest] two rear-guards], and put five cards from the top of your deck into your drop zone.

[ACT](Drop zone):COST [Discard a card from your hand & put this card on the bottom of your deck], and call a grade 1 from your drop zone to (RC). If your drop zone has ten or more cards, you may call any grade instead. As you can see, all of the cards in our grade 1 line-up offer some form of utility, and it is as basic as it is good. Raistutor gives herself the ability to intercept, which works really well in conjunction with the Nightmist’s skill, as well as letting herself become a 20k backrow interceptor if there is a protect II marker on her circle. Nightcrow works really well while he is in the drop zone, as he can turn any unit on our board into a copy of himself for a soulblast. Also blasting the cards from our soul means more options in our drop zone, so he’s a fun addition that works well with the rest of the archetype. Skeleton Sea Navigator is our mill engine. Granblue decks love to put cards from the top of their deck in the drop zone to fulfill certain conditions or allow for more options. Since we cannot afford to put many cards that mill our own deck, as space is very tight, the Navigator allows up to mill ourselves for no cost at all. Negrobone is a powerful payoff for milling ourselves. Reviving a grade 1 unit isn’t awful since they provide us with value or more Seven Seas units for attacks, but his ability to be able to revive a unit regardless of grade means that we have another way to get our Slash Shades back onto the board. So these are our options for the grade 1 units, but don’t touch that dial, we have a consistency boosting grade 0 unit that helps us find the right Seven Seas units at the right time. (I’m too lazy to make a grade 0 introductory section for a single card)

[ACT](RC):COST [Bind this unit & put two cards from the top of your deck into the drop zone], and return a card with "Seven Seas" in its card name not named "Seven Seas Apprentice, Nightrunner" from your drop zone to your hand. He mills our deck, he reccurs cards, he gets revived from Negrolazy, he mops the floor, Nightrunner does it all. He is an excellent addition for our deck as he does pretty much everything that our deck wants to do, with an added layer of consistency.

It’s a deck that provides a very unique and interesting take on what a “protect” deck should be, and it allows for some of the most hectic and fun board states compared to the majority of decks in general, not just budget decks. However, time has not been kind to this beauty, as it has been powercrept quite a bit compared to the other budget decks descussed previously. However, if you want a deck that, from the moment that you flip your vanguard over, is chaotic and hectic fun, as well as a very unique take on an aggro deck, look no further than Nightmist and his treasure-loving posse. I. Getting started

It seems like there's a whole bunch of people who'd like to learn how to make their own CC – so, without further ado, let's jump right into it! Thank you everyone for your feedback; I hope what you'll find here will meet your expectations.

This tutorial is intended for people who are at the absolute beginner level and the only thing they know about CC making is that they'd like to learn it. Of course you're not forbidden to use it if you've already got some experience, but just to warn you, I'll start with the very basics. Also, it'll be divided into many parts and I can't predict how quick I'll be with adding new ones, so please don't get too impatient!

It's intended to work as a complete, step-by step course, so in the later parts I'll assume that you're familiar with the previous ones. In case something isn't clear to you, please check first if that topic wasn't already explained before you say you don't understand what's going on.

So, let's start with the basic questions: what do you even need to get started and how much is it going to cost you?

Just to immediately calm you down: the answer to the 2nd question is 'almost nothing'.

What you need:

A 3-button-mouse

And that's the only thing you'll have to pay for, assuming you don't have one yet.

Blender 2.79

Blender is a 'free and open 3D creation software', as its slogan says. It's the place where the magic happens, where you mold your clay into whichever shape you want, in other words – where you mesh. A very important thing: you MUST download version 2.79, not 2.8. Why? Because only meshes created in pre-2.8 Blender can be read by S4S (see below). Why? No idea, we just have to accept it. Follow THIS link and download the version meant for your operating system. EDIT: Make sure you're really on version 2.79! It seems S4S will try to automatically download an even earlier version (2.70) for you, which doesn't have some options you'll need later.

Sims 4 Studio

Sims 4 Studio (aka S4S) is a fan-made program which enables you to import your mesh (and a bunch of other information, like textures, bump maps etc.) and change it into a nicely packaged .package file. You can download it HERE (again, choose your op system and scroll down a bit for a direct download link)

Free image editing software (unless you have Photoshop)

Yes, I know it sounds unbelievable, but you can actually make decent textures without Photoshop! You will need the following:

Paint.net

A very user-friendly program where 99% of your job can be done. Download HERE.

A set of custom plugins for paint.net

Useful for many things, absolutely necessary for making specular maps (we'll come back to it waaaaaay later). Download HERE.

A 'Normal Map Plus' custom plugin for paint.net

Necessary for making more detailed bump maps (again, we'll come back to it later). Download HERE.

GIMP

A not-so-user-friendly program that I'm still struggling with, so I try to avoid using it more often than necessary. However, it is necessary for turning those bump maps I mentioned earlier into normal maps, which can be read by your game. Download HERE (choose the 'download directly' option!).

Enough disc space for your creations

Your final package is one thing, but all the half-made meshes and textures you're going to create on the way are a completely different story. Trust me, your creations folder will grow very quickly. If you don't have much space on your PC, you should get yourself an external disc.

LOTS of patience

Getting your first creation ready is going to be a long and painful process. I've already mentioned it a couple of times, but making my very first dress work took me TWO MONTHS. Hopefully the whole experience will be less frustrating for you (because you'll have me :) ), but nevertheless, be prepared. Read everything carefully, pay attention to details, don't give up too easily and don't be too hard on yourself. It gets easier, I promise.

What you don't need:

Marvellous Designer

Another meshing software, used mostly by alpha CC creators, which looks cool, but has one big downside: it's horrendously overpriced. If you treat meshing as a hobby, then you probably don't feel like spending 50 euro/dollar per month on necessary software, therefore... Nope.

Photoshop

No hate to Photoshop; if you have it then cool, stick to it. But you don't need it, so we're going to go for free software instead.

A gaming PC with amazing specs

Let's just put it that way: if your computer can run TS4, it can run Blender and S4S. Till last month I was meshing on a laptop. I could have problems with TS4, but Blender? Never. So don't worry about it, you're fine.
