as with any thing i’m obsessed with i often daydream about what i personally would do if i got the chance to remake pla and make any changes i wanted

some things include:

•better graphics of course and like just bigger areas obv

•*gestures to both of volo’s designs* Something ahout those! lol

•also i’d remove his evil laughter at the celestica ruins lol. don’t give it away boy!!!!!! or at least turn it into a simple, moderately off putting chuckle

•make a Bad Ending cutscene for if you lose to volo. or at the very least a cut to black and a concerning sound effect of some sort and a game over

•otherwise i really can’t think of how i’d top his fight lol it was soooo good

•i would. change his dialogue right beforehand to make it a little more natural and logical. maybe even have him intimidatingly approach you as if he were trying to grab the plates from you until your lead pokémon jumps out to protect you. ik it would never happen like that in this series but like please it would be so good

•this is a big one- i’d make it so you really aren’t allowed to access any base camps in the wilds during the red sky exile sequence. giving you access to most things you had in jubilife anyway, plus you being allowed underneath the banner of the galaxy team, kinda cheapened it. me personally i will always choose not to use those during that part and only do things at cogita’s place. it would be suuuuper cool if like the guys at the camps like threatened you if you tried to approach!

•i think all wild pokémon should’ve taken on an aggressive nature during the red sky part. or more alphas. or like in my fantasy if you make one of them angry you start getting Chased all the way across the map, baby!!! like you’ve got a horde going after you! like it’s actively terrifying. either that or everyone gets a timid disposition because Nature is being Abnormal and they’re scared. k but like imagine the strange lightning suddenly coming down around you at random and striking random pokémon around you and they go insane. you never know when it’s gonna happen. watch out for that level 3 bidoof man!!!

•would’ve made the frenzied nobles a lil more Frenzied outside their battles. i’d love to be just wandering around the map and see them in the distance, visibly aggressively stomping around, and oh no is that thing coming this way? oh it better not be— like i want that thang to be Violent

•i know voice acting is never going to happen bc of being able to name your character etc and i get it but also like they could do it persona style right??? change the spoken dialogue ever so slightly from the text to be more generic and just use pronouns and such. listen we deserve to hear volo go insane

•find a way to fit the distortion world into the plot. no listen i don’t care how but just do it

•also make the stone portal a whole cave system like in the original gen 4! we deserve a dramatic ascent up the mountain. with!!! the mount coronet theme playing the whole time!!!!!

•i would’ve liked to battle volo more often throughout the story! but in a casual way such as not to build up suspicion for him or anything

•just uhhh. have the overworld music play more often and get interrupted by less stuff lol. also if at all possible do it sv style and have different battle tracks for each area that don’t break the immersion. no but like i know they’ve gotta be loyal to the sinnoh wild encounter theme ik…

might think of more later. but like this is what the inside of my brain looks like. no hate to the game as it is of course the entire reason i have so many thoughts like this is because i love it way too much. these are my fantasies

My URL = one of my WOL's name because I am so very creative haha.

This was HARD, but uhhh I made it hard on myself. I approached this a little differently from the description above and built a "soundtrack" based on Keilah's story. I had several criteria for picking songs here:

Can't pick two songs from the same band or source.

The lyrics of the song, if any, have to be relevant to Keilah's personality or life somehow.

The overall vibe of the song has to fit Keilah.

No FFXIV OST, that would be too easy (but other FF titles were fair game... even though none of them made the cut, lul).

I think the criteria worked, because I was able to fish around in my library and memory for a collection of songs that I think represents Keilah well in many different ways! (Plus, new story brainworms moved in how about that??)

If you decide to do this challenge, I encourage you to find a fun way to represent your muse that makes sense for you! Song titles, songs from OSTs only, whatever :)

- When it comes to shipping I only do x reader content. I’ve never been super big on shipping, but I enjoy from the sidelines! However, I am open to doing general headcanons about canon characters! If two characters would be friends, a group of characters doing a specific activity together, etc.

- Unless otherwise specified, I only write reader as gender neutral. I’m totally open to writing reader as gendered though, just let me know in your request!

- In relation to the above point, I will happily write trans readers, and canon characters as trans as well! More than happy to even! There’s not enough of it.

- Polyamory!

- Romantic, platonic, or even queer platonic scenarios. I’m also open to found family. Best trope is character seeing a kid and being like “Is anyone gonna adopt that?” but not wait for an answer.

- I’m open to doing NSFW. I’ve never done it before, so it may take me a sec to get around to at first.

- Open to writing for heavier topics regarding mental health, or health in general, as long as I feel like I can do it justice, and it’s not gratuitous angst. I’ll probably pull from my own experiences if it’s something I struggle with as well, or will ask people I know.

Honestlyyy I cant remember </3 they just have given me brainworms for the past 5 or so years n I have to deal w/ it <3 I guess I just thot that Vision was cool n they're such an iconic pairing that you sort of have to come across them at some point

My thoughts

ONE of the premier comic book relationships. theyre iconic theyre groundbreaking theyre so special and dramatic and have my whole heart. i can't personally think of a single relationship that has the range they do. theyre ur embarrassing het parents theyre the friendship of a gay man and lesbian they are a t4t lesbian power couple they are having a fight in a car park they are star crossed lovers whos fates are entertwined and the fact that their romance happened goes against all odds. they r so special.

What makes me happy about them

the fact that they STILL love each other they still are very close friends they made a LIFE together and they remember and respect that and love each other for it and even though theyre much different now they still have so much respect for one another i love their constant growth. strangers to being so fragily in love with each other to becoming stronger + standing by one another as they become the best versions of themselves, building a life together away from the avengers, the tragedy that struck them and the fact that they managed to rebuild past that and remain good friends. they r SO. thinking about them daily. they were KIDS IN LOVE they didnt deserve this :(

What makes me sad about them

everything john byrne did </3 set the WORST prescent for them it makes me so enraged that ppl still use it as evidence they shouldn't have been together they were SO in love prior to that vision got violated against their will and thats not their fault!!! n the fact that people can't let them rest.... WEIRD WRITERS R NOT THESE FICTIONAL CHARACTERS RESPONSIBILITY PLEASE STOP ACTING LIKE IT IS! SOBBING.

Things done in fanfic that annoys me

definitely ppl who recontextualise their relationship to be manipulative or abusive on vision's part saw that kind of idea in the 616 SV tag n i was so :/ just. dont use the tag lol. anyway finding anything centered on them that isn't mcu based is ridiculously hard so. that ig. vision with binary pronouns. i struggle a lot if u couldn't tell.

Things I look for in fanfic

genderqueer vision at the TOP of that list but definitely like,,, stuff that has clear references i guess. like i like some continuity i like being able to tell which comic issue it happened during i like being Specific!! uhhhh wanda being explictly jewish in like holiday celebrations is always a plus :0000 and if the avengers r there definitely a non mcu lineup. where r jan and hank.

My wishlist

ngl not sure what this means but assuming it means like, wishes for them, i guess uhhh. polyamory. literally it is 2022 no more ship wars. they r dating everyone. my wish is that they get back together but have an open / poly relationship.

A/N: This was meant to be only a vent fic but I'm actually making it part of a series related to the events of SvS redux where Janus, Roman and Remus all visit Virgil's room for different reasons at different times. This is post-SvS redux, the prequel with Janus has already been posted. Yes, another one of those where Roman seeks comfort to Virgil. Enjoy! (All song lyrics borrowed from Virgil's playlist)

Hell no.

Roman sank up in the all too familiar corridor, marching it down with heavy steps that would have formed holes on the floor if they had been just a little more massive.

The prickling in his eyes didn't matter, as the trembling of his hands counted more.

His eyes darted from a door to another as if he'd forgotten how they had been placed, ignoring his own in favour of probably the only person who would've lent him a chance to speak in that moment.

A knock then another and he was met with an uncharacteristically smiling face cornered by the trademark patchwork hoodie.

The smile faltered as Virgil processed Roman's expression.

« What did we say about repression and bottling up emotions? » that was an unusual conversation starter.

Something went definitely wrong.

« That it's … bad? It's bad. » Virgil had never been as good with words as Logan, but he could get to the point nonetheless.

« Right. So, » Roman's body seemed to be moving at light speed, mirroring how rapidly his mind was racing, how quickly he could respond. « You'll agree with me that, to prevent that, one must turn to someone else, maybe someone capable of understanding what might be going wrong. »

« A good point, I guess. »

« Indeed. Therefore if I just- » he pushed past Virgil and entered the room, quick and short steps reached the centre of it while Roman's arms opened wide as he turned back to look at Anxiety. « If I just- » his tone higher, the need to get everything out even stronger, his voice cracked and on the verge of shattering.

Virgil's concern rose, he slowly shut the door as he followed Roman's pacing with slightly wider eyes.

« If I just fucking lose it. For once. I don't know what to do anymore! Anything I do, I say anything goes wrong. I'm wrong! I'm never- » he recollected some breath, face now wet with tears. « What am I supposed to do anymore? »

Virgil mirrored everything that was opposite of Roman: mild breathing, soothing pacing, moving slowly around the room not to strengthen the other's panic.

Roman was now leaning against furniture, so Virgil reached the office chair and pulled it towards them, sitting with his chest against the back of the seat.

He looked up at Roman, careful. « What makes you say that? »

Virgil knew that type of attitude, the way your brain has a breakdown after way too many contradictions, way too many reloads and discrepancies.

It was already too late, Roman's mind went through the scenes again, which made him sob and cry even more while hearing everything they'd told him that day and before. He fell down and his face was buried in his hands.

Virgil slowly got up, careful not to make startling sounds, and reached the other, sitting next to him, but still giving him space. He tried to maintain his own tranquility so Roman wouldn't have to be around further distressing energy.

He started off with a barely audible tune which transformed into words. « As I walk through the streets of my new city, my back feeling much better, I suppose I've reclaimed the use of my imagination. For better or for worse, I've yet to know. » he tentatively put a hand on Roman's back, paying attention to his reaction and trying to console him when he noticed it didn't bother him.

« But I always knew you'd be the one to understand me, I guess that's why it took so long to get things right. » Virgil let a small smile creep on his face, remembering how much they used to bicker in the past, even though it hurt most times. « Suddenly I'm lost on my street, on my block. Oh why, oh why- »

Roman finally joined his singing, feeling the words fit him so much to let him vent that way. « Oh why haven't you been there for me? Can't you see, I'm losing my mind this time? This time I think it's for real, I can see … »

« All the tree tops turning red. The beggars near bodegas grin at me, I think they want something. I close my eyes, I tell myself to breathe. » their tone was much softer than the original song. Virgil had taken a small pause to breathe for real. « And be … calm. Be calm. » he turned to directly look at Roman. « I know you feel like you are breaking down. Oh I know that it gets so hard sometimes. » he watched as Roman tried to progressively stop crying. « Be calm. »

« Take it from me, I've been there a thousand times. » Virgil continued, softer than in the original song. « You hate your pulse because it still thinks you're alive. And everything's wrong, it just gets so hard sometimes. Be calm. »

He heard the other's breathing ease. It was working, so Virgil kept singing to make him comfortable.

« Hey. Don't write yourself off yet. It's only in your head you feel left out or looked down on. Just try your best, try everything you can. » he was looking ahead of himself, but he was sure Roman was listening. « And don't you worry what they tell themselves when you're away. »

Roman still had his head buried in his knees, so he slightly looked up at turned to the side.

« It just takes some time, little girl, you're in the middle of the ride, everything, everything will be just fine. Everything, everything will be all right. »

Virgil was resting his arm around Roman's shoulder now, finding him much more relaxed.

« Live right now, just be yourself. It doesn't matter if that's good enough for someone else. » he sang quietly.

Roman moved an arm and suddenly Anxiety's room changed and they were sitting against a tree at night up on a hill, while they watched the silent city in the distance with its flickering lights that matched the stars.

The wind was howling so nicely that it simply turned into a gentle breeze, tickling their skin with a touch of coldness.

Virgil resonated that it could have been a safe space for Roman, so he kept singing until the other felt ready to talk or didn't need anymore reassurance.

« Tell me that you're alright, that everything is alright. »

He still had his arm around the other's shoulders.

« Please tell me that you're alright, that everything is alright. »

As he sang, he moved his hand and ran it through Roman's hair instead.

« I'm sick of the things I do when I'm nervous like cleaning the oven or checking my tires. »

Roman joined him for real this time. « Or counting the number of tiles in the ceiling ... »

« Head for the hills, the kitchen's on fire. »

Creativity let a tiny smile on his face, so Virgil carried on with confidence. « I used to rely on self-medication, I guess I still do that from time to time. But I'm getting better at fighting the future. Someday you'll be fine. »

« Yes, I'll be just fine. » Roman got closer to the other, resting his head on Virgil's shoulder for more comfort.

They started singing the chorus together and ended up in a giggling mess, but when it all died down, Roman sighed heavily and the illusion fell, taking them back to Virgil's room.

There was a beat of silence.

« In the courtroom. Remember how every single one of you kept going against me for wanting to hear that snake out? »

Anxiety nodded. There was no lie in that, but the premise already told him where that was going.

« So I made up my mind, right? I listened to all of your reasoning, I did my best to understand, to put my pride and dreams aside to please you. I tried to convince myself that it was the best for Thomas when my guts kept telling me how wrong I was. »

Roman watched the other tilt his head without losing focus.

« I brushed aside my dread during the wedding day. I changed my mind on everything I was settled on during that day. Only for what? Seeing everybody doing a big U-turn and leaving me in my own confusion. »

« A u-turn? » Virgil raised an eyebrow, clearly unaware of the events that had just occurred.

« Magically now both Patton and Thomas, and I suppose also Logan, are in favour of that slimy guy's ideals. Now. Only now that everything is all gone and lost already. Now that I can't go back in time, now that it's too late for anything! »

He had thought he was done with tears. « So it ended up my longing for the callback was a better choice and I wasn't being selfish? What do I even do with it? It's as useful as a get well soon card for when you get an indelible scar. »

« They sided with Deceit? » Virgil wasn't quite sure he had heard correctly.

Though … his conversation with him earlier …

« Blindly, almost with no opposition. And I can't believe any direction I follow, everybody turns around and leaves me walking by myself. » Roman curled up on himself more, arms around his chest. « Alone in the wrong spotlight. » he mumbled, side eyeing the drawer next to him.

Virgil fidgeted with the hem of his hoodie, considering the ever too familiar situation.

He extended an arm towards him, uncharacteristically determined. « Come here. »

A pair of eyes looked up at Virgil unsure, only to accept his help and end up sitting on the bed, opposite to him.

« I know how it feels. Deep confusion, you don't know what's right or wrong anymore and you feel like anywhere you go, you'll crash into a wall and someone will end up hurt. You, most likely. »

Virgil refrained from making eye-contact.

« And it hurts, it hurts like hell cause the ones that are going against you are the ones you love and that you believe that love you as well. That's where the doubts start and then you spiral. »

Roman found his reasoning so accurate it hit him like a sharp sudden pain in his heart.

« But you know what? »

He raised his head.

« I'm glad you didn't bottle it up this time. Because if you did … I don't know, I'm just happy you haven't fought with anyone. »

That was when he raised an eyebrow: he heard Virgil's voice shift towards the end, in a sort of understood thing, an unspoken truth Virgil didn't want to uncover.

Maybe they really were alike under all those layers of sarcasm.

« And that- that wouldn't have been nice at all. » Roman had also noticed how the conversation was stalling on that particular, as if the other weren't able to move on from that topic and now his mind was clouded by that argument only.

« You … » Roman encouraged the best he could. « Well, yeah. It's pretty obvious you had a fight with them. Right? »

Virgil shook his head to brush off the topic. « Gosh, I'm sorry. I was trying to help you and yet I made my own issues surface. »

« It's okay, we're all a bit broken. » Roman tentatively stretched his arm and put a hand on his back.

The other turned to him and showed a small smile. « See, that's what I admire of you. Even while distressed you still try to sympathize with others. » there was a pause. « I would probably yell at everyone like when someone insists on talking before an hour of being awake. »

Neither of them could escape laughter, a little heartfelt moment in a dark alley.

« Back to you, anyway. » Virgil waved his hand as if to physically brush the topic away. « I believe the reason why this mess has happened is because everyone's pretty confused. We've been touching a complicated ground and it's only logical we make mistakes. »

« The thing is, Roman, you care a lot about Thomas and it shows. You want to make sure he's going to be happy about the kind of life he pursues. » he looked him in the eyes. « You're not doing anything wrong. Rather, you're doing your best. »

Roman bit his lip and he nodded, his eyes sliding down to the floor.

« In the long run, I'm sure it's gonna be fine. And if Thomas will ever end up in the bad zone, we'll find a way to get him out of here, okay? »

Creativity exhaled deeply and felt the tangle in his stomach slowly dissipate.

« Thank you, Virgil. »

Anxiety relaxed as he watched Roman's features soften. « Don't mention it. »

Roman stood up, brushing his hands on his face like he had been washing it with imaginary water.

« I guess I'll try and let off some steam in the Imagination. » he made to head for the door, when he stopped dead in his tracks.

« Fuck. »

Virgil's heart sunk, expecting further complexes. « What's wrong? »

« I forgot to ask if you were stable enough to endure a vent moment. »

But then, of course, another smile made its way on his face. « Nah, I had been playing stupid video games until ten minutes ago. Don't worry big guy, go fight the dragon witch. »

Roman huffed as he crossed the hallway again. « I've defeated her eons ago, let me live it down! »

Snickering accompanied the echo of his voice and Virgil's smile only faltered some seconds after.

Yeah, maybe they were all a little bit broken. Maybe he was still holding grudges he thought he didn't care about anymore.

But, then again, maybe everything was going to be alright either way.

Thomas Appreciating Logan (Alternative title: Earl Grey Tea)

A/N: I...I said I was gonna start another fanfic project and I ended up not writing any fics for like a whole two years. Cheers to this drabble.

Summary/Genre: Logan- and Thomas-centric. Platonic Logan Sanders and Character!Thomas. Romantic if you squint. Some angst at the beginning but mostly fluff of Thomas and Logan hanging out bc good lord do I need some fluff after that Roman angst video. Light hurt/comfort. Set after SvS Redux

The morning after Mary Lee and Lee left, Logan, resting in his room re-reading his favorite book, felt a tug on his hair and his clothes. He was being summoned.

It wasn’t really often he was being summoned, according to the experiment he collected the previous November. Patton was summoned 22 times (usually to help Thomas cook), Roman was summoned 16 times (usually to help with Thomas’s videos), Virgil was summoned 9 times (four of which was to have a Friday group marathon with Thomas and the rest of the sides and five of which were one-on-one time with Thomas), and Logan clocked in at a whopping 4 times. The exact 4 Friday movie marathons the rest of the sides also shared with Thomas.

Logan sighed softly. He tried not to think about it too much, else it somehow gains Thomas’s attention. And besides, it was illogical to think that Thomas would want to spend one-on-one time with him. Logan was, as Roman put it, a party pooper at his best and a mood killer at his worst.

But here he was, being summoned. And it was not Friday.

Logan sunk out of his room and rose up in Thomas’s bedroom with a whoosh. “What do you need, Thomas?”

Thomas fiddled with his sweater strings. “Heya Logan...how ya doing? After this whole...fiasco?”

Logan’s eyebrow quirked. “I’m quite alright, Thomas. You don’t need to ask me; I was not important this video.” At this statement, Thomas winced. “In fact, the more impertinent task would be asking Roman how he is doing. As far as I know, he left with his ego figuratively bruised.”

“Doesn’t he get literally bruised?” Thomas asked.

“No...” Logan tilted his head a little bit. “That’s when your ego is bruised, both literally and figuratively.” 

“Anyway, I figured Roman could use some time to cool down.”

“Why would Roman need to cool down? Unless he is in the Imagination, he shouldn’t have a different body temperature than yours, Thomas.” It dawned on Logan that it was another expression that he misinterpreted, so Logan shook his head to figuratively clear it. “Why did you summon me here, Thomas? I know you wouldn’t simply summon me for an apology.” Thomas opened his mouth to say something, but Logan continued. “Do you need help editing the footage of the video perhaps?”

Thomas scoffed. “I don’t only summon you when I need help with something.”

Logan adjusted his glasses. “That is technically correct. According to the data I gathered in November of 2019, the only times you have summoned me were when we had Friday night movie marathons with the other sides.”

“That’s impossible…” Thomas’s voice became slightly higher pitched as he tried to remember the last time he summoned Logan for some one-on-one time.

“Well, if you don’t need me, I’ll take my leave.” Logan began to sink out until Thomas cried out.

“Wait!”

Logan rose up again and stared expectantly at Thomas.

Thomas bit his lip, and Logan couldn’t help but glance at. At a glance, the sides might seem identical to Thomas, but a closer look would make one notice Roman’s tanned skin and muscles, or Patton’s dad bod, or Virgil’s different colored eyes. They also had subtly different facial features. Logan, for example, had a sharper jaw and higher cheekbones. Logan was sharper, angular, awkward. Not like Virgil’s charmingly boyish awkwardness.

Thomas finally spoke, which brought Logan out of his thought. “We could...hang out right now if you want. Are you free? Of course, you’re free, you’re a part of me. I don’t know why I, uh, said that. Oh boy, is it getting hot in here?”

Logan softly smiled. “I would love that, Thomas. For the sake of clarity, will it just be us?”

“Just us,” Thomas confirmed.

Logan whispered, “yes!” Going back to his usual voice, Logan said, “what will we be doing?”

“Oh, I thought you would want to choose…”

Logan’s eyes sparkled with excitement, and Thomas felt himself smile giddily in response. “Would you like to play Monopoly with me?”

“Of course!”

Logan half-ran to find the Monopoly board as Thomas prepared some tea. He held a hand to his heart, which was light in a way that was...pleasant. “Huh.” In his kitchen, Thomas was struck by the fact that he didn’t even know how or even if Logan liked tea. By the time Thomas poured some steaming Earl Grey tea into two mugs, Logan had already set up the Monopoly board.

“I hope you like Earl Grey tea,” Thomas said in a light tone.

“Oh, I dislike the taste,” Logan said flatly as Thomas’s heart skipped a beat. “However, I appreciate you making tea for me in the first place, so I’ll drink it.”

“Oh, no, you don’t have to--” Thomas stammered.

“It’s rather like me, in a figurative sense of course. You might not enjoy my presence or what I represent--” 

“Logan…”

“--but I believe you appreciate my work regardless of me being a…party pooper.” 

“Logan… I don’t see you as just a party pooper,” Thomas said. Then Logan felt two very warm arms wrap around him. Thomas was hugging him. “I do appreciate you. You. I’m sorry I made you feel like that.”

Logan sunk into the hug. “Apology accepted, though I don’t think it was necessary…. So, which of us will have a turn first?”

“And did you know that Artemis had a lover despite being a virgin goddess?” Logan recounted as Thomas counted the Monopoly money out to give to Logan as a fine for landing on his property. “Oh! And on that note, I find it simply fascinating that Artemis contrasted so much with the previous Greek moon goddess, Selene. Especially since Selene’s most memorable myth was about her being figuratively head over heels for a man...” Logan cleared his throat and readjusted his tie in embarrassment. “Pardon me, I got carried away on a boring rant.”

“No, no, you don’t have to apologize!” Thomas laid a hand on Logan’s shoulder and smiled. At the beginning of the Monopoly game, they had been on opposite sides of the coffee table, but eventually, they wound up right next to each other. “I think it’s really cool.”

Logan paused, staring at Thomas. He knew, intellectually, that Thomas wasn’t lying, but… “You think it’s cool?”

“I think you’re cool!” Thomas booped Logan’s nose. “You little nerdy bean.”

Logan pinked and simply leaned his head on Thomas’s shoulder. “I...I think you’re cool too, Thomas. Also, I’m only two inches shorter than you.”

“Two inches is a lot, Lo.”

Silence.

“Lo, what’s wrong?”

“I ran out of tea.”

uhhh shit let me think. should reiterate, this isnt a huge bash on the team or anything because doin this kinda stuff is hard, and honestly this might not even be that unpopular of an opinion, but im not a fan of the whole virgil being a part of the Others(tm) and then that never being addressed as of posting this. it was mentioned in DWIT (dealing with intrusive thoughts) but never really said again i dont think?

please correct me if im wrong, and i know virgil definitely represses the guilt and his previous status as one of the Others, but it may have been mentioned like once and just never processed. and ik SvS Redux had a whole Thing behind it but i would TOTALLY accept a comment from janus or smth about virgil “finally telling the truth” or some sly comment by him! cuz this sorta thing is something that should maybe be its own video.

Hi, I'm the anon who asked about u!Patton in the tsactorau. Just wanted to clear things up: a lot of people in the fandom (especially after SvS and POF) took Patton's strict stance on morality and portrayed him as someone cruel and uncaring (which I believe is extreme compared to canon), and that just really bothers me... I just went from his description in the original au post and started to worry... Though you said that he isn't a jerk or something... I hope I managed to explain myself well...

Uhhh well he’s definitely not uncaring, how he could be if all he does is in his idea of making Thomas a better person. I don’t think he’s doing the bad things on purpose, just like Janus said “I don’t think the little guy is capable of that sort of thing”. It’s just the values he has been raised with. Are they good? Not always, I recognize that as a person who was raised in heavily religious village.

The only thing I wrote about Patrick is “very stoic and kinda old-fashioned guy” that doesn’t mean he holds any harmful ideologies. Just because somebody is old-fashioned doesn’t automatically means they hold exclusively traditional views, that’s the only thing I caught that might have been misconstrued, but still kinda a stretch if you ask me?

As I said I do not do sym/unsym sides. Do people like to color characters in certain ways to express themselves artistically? Sure, but then they should tag those stuff as “manipulation” or such. Hope it cleared stuff from my perspective.

so my biggest thing, is with the MXTX antis/MDZS wank/MXTX wank. is like....god it FRUSTRATES me so fckn much lmfao in so many ways and on so many levels.  like listen. I’m not saying there isn’t stuff to critique in MDZS. But there’s people who are first off: critiquing the writing quality, when I’m like “there’s like a 90% chance you’re reading the EN translation, and probably from ExR, and honestly I know it’s not fandom etiquette to critique fan content bc we’re all doing this for free out of passion, BUT I do, in fact, have some major issues with ExR’s translation quality, and also I lowkey feel like they have a strong traditional yaoi bias and sometimes it leaks through in how they handle certain things.” Big mood of this twitter thread about how when you’re reading in TL you can’t be criticizing the writing bc you’re already reading it filtered and like. you gotta consider things like the TL’s own personal biases or takes, etc. Which I feel like some people don’t in their critique, or at least they don’t take the time to acknowledge it and instead start spinning off into more and more impassioned reactions to perceived slights or faults.

The other thing is like. I admit when I first read MDZS - which I did while simultaneously watching bc I was kind of using CQL as a vehicle to get into MDZS, I had the HARDEST time trying to read ExR’s translation when I was going into it cold many many many moods ago rip - I was also squicked out by the explicit scenes shown. It did remind me a lot of traditional yaoi tropes, and I wasn’t into it. HOWEVER I was also a psych major, and I want to point out that the T/N’s do read to me as having a strong yaoi bias, and also before ExR redid their site they had large “SERVING YAOI AND BL” banners on EVERY page lol. And I think that also primes people to see things a certain way. (I just. am :/ about ExR also bc like... their whole vibe as a “yaoi scanlator” and also I. can’t be sure the TL wasn’t 17 when they were tl’ing it lmfao,,  and they did the whole rant - which fine they apologized for, but I think sort of reflects on a general attitude still w/ the team - about how some other TL had bad quality or something, but their existing TL has a lot of clunky English phrasing and actually a lot of editing issues, too, I was creating myself a back-up copy from their site and like google docs was already catching a bunch of typos and tense issues and such :’) and that’s beyond clunky EN translation phrasing. I just am like. they have a patreon lol, so I can’t say ExR is doing it wholly not-for-profit/dollars, and also like... it’s not like they’re licensed? I get that within scanlation circles, there’s an etiquette of “first come first serve,” but with translation, I think fans are only served with more translations? but I also care about the original work lol, I mean I get the vanity of “I want MINE to be the AUTHORITATIVE tl” bc I feel that mood too, but also I’m like. fam you didn’t bid for a license lmao.)

But yeah like. My petty gripes with ExR aside lmfao, I think when you look at WangXian, the whole “it’s yaoi tropes” gets really strawman. Like from a Watsonian perspective, I mean like... both WWX and LWJ really ARE useless virgins, lol, WWX’s first kiss was stolen by LWJ and his whole idea of sex comes from porn; LWJ is GusuLan and like. yeah. Who is teaching them about lube? certainly not porn. (but this also gets into the whole. like people saying explicit material is “problematic” because it doesn’t show “realistic” sex and I’m like. fam it’s smut, not a sex manual.) And like... they’re both kinky and WWX has a pregnancy kink, and like... good for them I guess?

From a more Doylist perspective..... I think for me, I’m like. well why not? gay media doesn’t have to be uwu to be “Valid,” and like, the people who start attacking mxtx personally because of the way she chose to write WangXian, or saying she’s homophobic because of WangXian or she doesn’t have the range... I already Know they didn’t read TGCF or SV lol. (and yeah SV is more “problematic” but I also think it’s VERY genre aware and both satirizes and also plays with and subverts some of the typical genre “problematic” things. not everything, but like. again the whole idea that non-mainstream media needs to be held to a higher standard to not be cancelled? I don’t hold by that). [But more on the Doylist thing: it’s dumb to me that people react like it’s a moral failing of non-straight works if they don’t fit EXACTLY their personal idea of what a thing should be. And this comes up EVERY time there’s some new thing. hell it’s not even just lgbt-related stuff; Hamilton, Crazy Rich Asians, etc all had nitpicking. Which again, isn’t invalid! but also like. :/ because we DON’T have enough representation right now to pick, and my take is always: the solution is to get to the point where we can pick and choose and can afford to have bad media just like the straights/whites do :’)]

The thing about WWX and LWJ is neither of them, as they’re written in canon, fit within “traditional yaoi” seme/uke stereotypes. The kiss I see people rail against as “dubcon” and also their sex scenes but I’m like. yeah I think it’s fine to say it’s not your cup of tea but to say that that makes them traditional yaoi rapey tropes I’m like. Fam that’s not it lol. LWJ is shown as being SO incredibly responsive and attentive to WWX’s wishes and desires. I mean that’s examples of his passion exploding out, but we consistently see LWJ being respectful of WWX’s wishes and autonomy even when it like. fucks him/them over :’) like when WWX was so hell-bent on hurtling down the mo’dao route :’)

plus also WWX literally fantasizes about them retiring as farmers and he’s the one out working the fields and LWJ is staying at home weaving lol, like c’mon, ya wanna talk gender roles, let’s talk about this.

the other thing is the whole mxtx anti stuff about “she’s homophobic” and “she’s a filthy fujo” and I think there’s issues that people aren’t considering, which I don’t know as much about but I feel like it informs my consideration of mxtx - such as like... not everyone’s internet is as wide open as, like, the West. I don’t know so much about Chinese censorship other than it exists, but I’m like. I think this would affect people’s access to resources which would inform them about how things work/where people are with LGBT thought? It reminds me of when young tumblr kids trash talk older queer people for using terms they see as “problematic” now, and I’m like “you really gotta pause a moment of (1) have some empathy (2) consider the person’s individual personal and cultural context.” MDZS wasn’t made for a Western audience in mind lol, it’s not going to reflect Western values! And China has a different history with its LGBT progression and it’s m/m media, which I don’t know enough about to comment specifically, but I think it’s incredibly disingenuous to judge it based on Western standards. A lot of people probably don’t realize they are! in that it doesn’t even occur to them, which is why they feel so free with their judgment! But also I’m like. lowkey THAT’s a problem for me bc of like. cultural imperialism lmfao. and also reflective of EN-language imperialism, when people are judging EN tl’s they’re seeing on face value without realizing or considering that they’re...reading... a translation... and that translations are NOT in fact direct one-for-one and that there’s a LOT of considerations that go into both translating and reading a translation of a work.

I think the points antis pull up against MXTX is like... stuff she’s said before in interviews - and I don’t know from when, but I imagine years ago at this point - where she was asked about shipping the other characters in MDZS, and she said something I think about how to her, she wants to write in a way that “preserves realism” or maybe she believes in (I only read a TL of it, so I hold the exact phrasing with a grain of salt), and for her, not everyone is gay so she doesn’t write all of her named characters gay. and I’m like. whatever that’s her prerogative as the author. And I think there’s also something that I don’t know if it’s an official “rules”/”guidelines” she wrote bc again I’ve only seen secondhand/thirdhand sources, but it’s something mxtx-antis also quote, where she said to not break up the main couples and also don’t “reverse” them. but again when we’re getting into the shou/gong dynamics, that’s where I don’t feel comfortable commenting because I don’t know enough about the sociopolitical implications of these terms and how they interact within that fandom/community subset. But I do think people need to be taking the stuff they read - ESPECIALLY if they’re only reading it in EN - with a grain of salt. or like a big ol pinch of it. 

edit: I know more about this now lmao and I know exactly which question people use piecemeal of vilify her. Here’s a recent-ish translation someone did. Read it through - the WHOLE thing, and think about the wider context.

Personally, I think the entirety of Scum Villain was uhhhh a little rushed idk? The ending didn’t quite strike me as fulfilling??? I pretty much just agree because I feel like I never had that AH-HA moment of like omg they’re totally in love with each other. Idk if it’s just because there was a lot more effort put into making it funny, so MXTX skipped that romance shit???

I don’t doubt for a second that he has amiable feelings for BingHe since he does seem to really care for him, but I never really got that “I see why Shizun has fallen for Binghe” moment? Do you guys know what I mean? Because it’s my very favorite part of romance anything!!! I get why BingHe loves Shizun (one of the first people to be v kind to him uhhh after the transmigration of course). Shizun really treasured BingHe, but it didn’t feel romantic. I feel that. I feel like the extras were much cuter than the actual story line. Again, I think there was just more effort into the funny HAHA NOW THE MC IS GAY THANKS TO STUPID SHIZUN than uhhh justifying Shizun actually loving BingHe haha.

Idk I really like MDZS and TGCF because they’re slowburn and you get all these small moments that slowly build up until the characters (pretty much just the MCs in this case) are like wooooahhhh I love that person!!!

Somehow the 6 chapters of MoShang made me believe they were v cute and could end up loving each other better than the 80+ chapters of BingBing chasing Shizun over and over and over again haha

Anyways jay ends up joining a dream website because he wanted to see if anyone else had been to deadland and was playing it off and also maybe just cos he needed to cope with some of the shit, we decided alex was also on there and found it and was like “well the habit thing ripping out ur heart is you being afraid to love” he’s under the user GunsForHands and doesn’t kno it’s jay and jay doesn’t know it’s alexjay starts using it kinda as a coping mechanism for all the shit they’re going thru like hey today i dreamed i went back to that house and uhhh masky? from my deadland dream? tackled me it’s also a jay lives au because he gets shot and immediately goes to the website to be like “what’s up the dreams were real i’m dying” and then in a thread of comments under it he’s like “i’m in a gross abandoned college someone get som help for me please there’s a gun boy out in the halls” “benedict hall? left wing i think” “buy marble hornets on dvd” “see ya in deadland” and then 2 seconds later “WAIT IM POSTING THIS FROM MY PHONR” and alex gets arrested and jay and tim and brian live happily ever after the end also @ ppl who like musicals go listen to jid on youtube most of the music is good and deadland is an amalgamation of mythologies interpretations of the afterlife and it’s wonderful

the l.is au is shorter bcos el and i kinda made it in one day, she also mostly made the plot and it was really fucking good, basc tim sees jay get shot and reaches his hand out and what the fuck time powers (much like max did when chloe got shot) tim keeps trying to save him bcos he goes back to the beginning of entry 80 every time, but jay keeps dying, like it’s already a hassle to get him to be quiet and follow him out of the building but even when he does he ends up falling and dying anywaystims done this like. A Lot at this point and he’s just really broken down from seeing jay die over and over again and he pulls out his little flip phone and looks at a picture he took with brian and jay when they were filming and they all look so happy and he’s remembering every detail from that day, and he’s remembering how they were all so happy and he’s crying and suddenly he’s there, he’s back in time, nose bloody and concerned friends and he’s been given a second chance we didn’t get any further than that but i really Really like it so i might bother el so we can expand on it more :}
