taylor swift calling reputation a “goth punk movement of female rage” is absolutely hilarious to me. you know what the goth punk movement involves? politics. it involves speaking up against a genocide and using your platform and voice for shit like this. all she’s done is use her space to make more money and become times person of the year. you cannot call yourself punk when you are a billionaire. the two things do not go hand in hand, and do not convince me that ethical billionaires exist. they do not. no one accumulates that much wealth without turning a blind eye to poor labor practices, or other unfair treatment of people in their supply chain, etc.
when we say it’s time to eat the rich, she will be a part of that. when we say hold people accountable. she will be a part of that

I used to think that ALL people deserve time off, rest, relaxation, and rejuvenation. I don't think this anymore. I think that people who place themselves atop strict, traditional hierarchies, who resource & power hoard, who play mental gymnastics to justify extracting labor from many, many others so that they personally benefit, and who exploit staff for personal profit should NEVER be not-working.
THOSE kind of people should be completely accessible to their staff 24/7, day and night, to give guidance, sign off or WHATEVER to the people they are exploiting for their personal financial gain. There should be no rest of being "off" if they choose to do things like that.
If they'd like to experience "unplugging" and travel and to be able to be truly "off work," then I think they should have to restructure their entire professional lives such that they aren't in the selfish epicenter of everything. Unless/until they do, they should be beholden to being "on" every. god. damn. minute. of. the. day.

y'all are cowards for using the verses of "eat your young" for romantic dreamling fics instead of using the chorus for a fic that grapples with hob gadling being a hedonist who has always valued his own survival above anyone else.

It's official. I have been left behind by the internet.
I made the mistake of restarting my 2012 iMac that has 32bit architecture and Discord threw an error saying I have to update the operating system
Wish I could! I would have to do some computer witchcraft that I'm not comfortable with and still risk bricking the computer asdkjf

Something something
I've been thinking about @memekeymouse meta commentary then started lisening to wozwalt and how people have been still in defence of disney even though they simply don't activley make good content anymore, there is a Pearl there and there but let's be honest people making those pearls had to fight tooth and nail to even get the ideas accepted
Something something, isn't it fascinating? A company that activley does harm to YOU and all the others around you and them, yet people defend it as if it was their dear friend, it makes me think of how cartoons, ideas of cartoons, both in meta like outside ultimatley Do die in some way
But not die as in passing away, die like old versions of everyone does as there still alive, If I were to talk to myself from 5 years ago, I woudn't recognize myself, I would have nothing to talk about to them, I would be standing infront of something that's dead and unknown to me
The toon's, the ideas the media even briefly the company have changed, there not the same anymore, the idea many holds in their head is dead but, a new version looking uncannily symiliar is here and people desperatley try to act as if it was the same
There is something so incredibly human we have put in that mouse, the endless ability change

so me and Sam FINALLY watched the last season of Capaldi's Who
and tell me how, after literally over a decade and for perhaps the first time in his fucking career, Steven Moffat wrote a not just tolerable but really actually good two-parter and fully stuck the landing. like the editing and pacing were still a bit off but the storyline was original, fun, interesting and emotionally invested, and most importantly, rather than ending on a damp fart or the most furious autofellatio in history, the final part didn't fumble it and ended in a way that felt emotionally satisfying and like it made sense for the characters. like the last time he successfully wrapped up a multiparter in a way that didn't feel cheap and hollowly disappointing to me was literally The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances, and a) that was in 2005 and b) tbh The Doctor Dances is about a tenth as compelling and memorable as The Empty Child.
so after 12 years of either hackery or great ideas that fall apart in the second act, Steven Moffat writes what I would genuinely consider to be a memorable Good Doctor Who serial. it ends with bittersweet pathos, a solid closer for all the main characters, and sends Moffat's showrunning career out on a genuine high despite failing ratings and budget cuts (and the fact Doctor Who hasn't been consistently good since about 2009). good job Steve. with grudging respect I admit you pulled it out of the bag on this one.
wait what's this there's one more episode left? and it stars Mark Gatiss? and you literally spend the whole episode inexplicably just shitting all over the legacy of Doctor Who by inventing a version of the First Doctor that bears literally no resemblance to the character that William Hartnell actually played, just so you can spend the whole episode saying misogynistic things to run yourself off to how much more Totally Feminist your version was than the version you made up in your head of what Doctor Who was like in the 60s? and it added literally nothing to the season except to take all the wind out of the sails of the actually good finale you already wrote?
even when he writes a good episode this fucker still finds ways to disappoint me.
#red said#as I remembered it is by a LONG shot the best that Doctor Who has been under Moffat and I do think giving Capaldi more creative control#helped a lot. cause he's a massive nerd and also he approximately knows how to construct a story.#bill is the first female companion Moffat has ever written with an actual fucking personality#(even if being mean that personality is maybe kind of just what you'd get if you put rose Martha and Donna in a blender)#(at least she's not a blank slate with the words SASSY. SEXY. written on it)#matt Lucas is genuinely surprising bc despite hating the man it's kind of impossible to not like Nardole by the end??#michelle gomez finally gets some room to get her Anthony Ainley on and be the Master PROPERLY#i was hooting and clapping my hands at the John Sim Master's dumb disguise#like the cast is GREAT#(and while he still can't shut the fuck up about her at least Moffat isn't shoving River fucking Song down my throat 24/7)#buuuuuuuut uhhhh the politics are. incoherent and the vibes are rancid in a lot of the episode plots.#they clearly WANT to do Social Commentary but weirdly keep bringing up colonialism and capitalism and then taking the side of the baddies?#how are you doing to do a piece about the British Empire colonising Mars with a posh villain and a whole comparison to the British Raj#then come down on the side of the British state? same with the ninth legion piece? and the zombie spacesuit one is fun#but it wraps up with 'and then they complained to upper management and capitalism ended forever the end'#uhhhhh in the one with the microbot colony again we conclude the Morally Correct Answer is colonialism#don't get me started on the monks plot which is a) literally just ripping off the Year That Never Was but without the emotional impact#but also b) has some really weird and genuinely fucked up ideas about both geopolitics and uhhhh consent????#so yeah the philosophical core is either incoherent or Fucking Horrendous in almost every episode#it's frequently derivative but tbh that's often to its benefit bc it vibes like trying to figure out what actually makes episodes memorable#and the budget is clearly cut to the bone bc the visual effects look worse than 2005 and the post edits are really weird and janky#like the pacing and ordering is weirdly off and a lot of the shot to shot transitions are awkward or confusing.#plus the sound design in the first few eps is. unhinged. it sounds like offbrand versions of standard stings it's all just Slightly Wrong#but for real i liked it more than I've liked any other season of Moffat Who. it's messy incoherent and often politically INFURIATING#but it has some actual heart and energy. and it feels like doctor who. and i would say moffat is spending like 10% as much time#wanking over his own past triumphs (and Alex Kingston)#and a lot more time like. trying to write something which works. he's not like successful 100% of the time. or even 50%.#but there's a lot more warmth and creativity. mackie capaldi and lucas have actual chemistry as a core cast#and i think it helps that everyone in the core cast is SO PSYCHED TO BE THERE. like it just wasn't a slog like all Moffat's other seasons.

i hope we never discover aliens. not out of some grand notion or anything, its just that i know they would be very small and uninteresting to anyone who isnt deeply familiar with them and the popsci trying to make them interesting to a wider audience would be so fucking bad.

Ah. "Animals rights" bullshit okay. Being animals that are not obligate herbivores and eating the flesh of other animals because of it is "oppressing" non-human animals. And they called out my comparing it to anti-choicers because "murder is different than death" okay well anti-choicers think abortion is murder. I don't happen to consider a human killing an animal for food murder any more than I consider an animal killing another animal for food murder, especially when as you pointed out yourself some people can't survive without meat.
Or is it a contract killing/hit on every animal You've ever eaten to survive? Are you just not a murderer because you paid not to get your hands dirty?
Like yeah it's fucking NATURAL. Humans aren't some wondrous ascended beings that don't crawl through the dirt. We fuck and fight and survive and yes, part of that survival for many is KILLING.
And it's good that you don't think people should be forced onto veganism because that would be as bad as the people who want to force all animals to eat synthetic meat and hunt via robots or whatever but my gods can you imagine telling someone who has been a vegetarian by choice for years for animal WELFARE purposes (not rights) who is vegan for disability reasons that they are "justifying the oppression of animals" and "killing animals for food is murder" when you literally can't go vegan for health reasons yourself? Okay murderer. Guess your life matters more than those oppressed animals.
Like sorry I'm going full "you're an asshole and I despise you and I'm genuinely sorry for myself that I thought we could be friends".
Like yeah the anti-choicer metaphor wasn't perfect. But it also got you to cut right to the heart of the matter. You are so divorced from humans as part of the ecosystem and food chain you genuinely believe we have some moral duty to not kill animals (but only animals, not plants or fungi, which are also living and have some measure of sentience) and to hold ourselves separate from the biosphere to the greatest extent possible.
That's just ecofascism 101. Are we gonna do the "any form of hunting or land management, even responsibly by indigenous stewards using traditional practices is bad" next? Or are we gonna avoid that one because you hopefully know better than THAT and simply think that removing humans from ONLY one part of the consumptive chain is ✨different✨?
For reference:
Tumblr media
Also where does "choosing to die" come in to this? I wasn't talking about euthanasia, I was talking about withdrawing the life support provided by a human body if the owner of that body stops consenting to providing it, therefore depriving a fetus dependent on that life support for survival of said survival. I'm pretty sure the fetus doesn't have a choice in the matter. (Whether or not it's "alive" doesn't have much to do with anything since it's been made pretty clear that medical autonomy in terms of mandated use of your body's parts or resources is unethical at ANY point. Even if you ARE killing it, we've determined that's the most ethical option.)
Also if we're going to make bullshit oppression claims why don't we talk about transspecies people who are obligate carnivores?
#literally I'm not a fucking legalist but no I don't believe murder in the sense of nonconsensual killing is always wrong#like self defense. hello.#like maybe my moral system is just built different but to call it oppression and make me out to be some kind of bigot?#come on. that's bullshit and you know it.#we're literally not talking about rights being taken away. also this is why animal welfare is such a better concept than animal rights#stop anthropomorphizing animals!! stop treating them like furry humans that can't speak!!#literally somehow both a veganism centrist and an 'animal rights' person at once#go yell at people for literally having a moral-spiritual belief system that encompasses eating animals as neutral somewhere else#oh and btw don't EVER fucking moralize any kind of food related consumption around me again that goes for everyone#meat is neutral. sugar is neutral. artificial sweeteners are neutral. preservatives are neutral. plants are neutral. fish are neutral. etc#some of these may be unhealthy for a given individual and their production under capitalism may be fucking harmful#but conceptually they are neutral and there are ways of making them physically so by changing the harmful systems#you can keep feeling bad about your oppression of poor animals or w/e. or maybe you don't feel bad idk#I happen to find that far more harmful than humans who want or need to eat meat - doing so - will ever be#thanks for the mask off moment where you decided it was actually okay to moralize food and survival#I'm so happy to say goodbye forever#(note: if you know who this is don't fucking harass them. I have them blocked and am being a bit nasty *bc* they can't see it)#(I don't want them to suffer. I just think they're a monumental asshole. gods know I'm one too.)#(let people be assholes 2k23 lol)

The legendary Boots Riley has taken Amazon money to make one of the most vehemently anti capitalist pieces of media I’ve seen in a minute.
Tumblr media
Y’all need to watch I’m a Virgo. This lil summary here does it no Justice. It’s so much more…and above all, a scathing and effective takedown of our deeply fucked up economic system.
Don’t believe me? How about these people?
I binged the series earlier this week and really enjoyed it. One of the best parts of it is how it’s not just dealing in anti capitalist symbolism or passing implications. It’s overt OVERT. There are entire very hand-holdy explainer segments that even the most 101 level person can’t deny. There’s one character in particular, who explains in undeniable detail such issues as how capitalism REQUIRES there to be homeless/unemployed/exploited people who suffer for the profits of the mega wealthy. Or the power of collective action.
It’s not only a very interesting and unique show telling a compelling story, it’s offering like an associates degree in anti capitalist radicalization in 7, 30-some minute episodes.

Fuck every single one of you ignorant techbro fucks and you fucking deep throat bootlicking sycophants who said this would democratize art.
This has been costing people jobs and it will continue to cost people jobs. You didn't care then and I doubt you care now.
Corporate execs are celebrating this on account of how much more money they'll make, the shareholders will make, and how many more super fucking 'survive the apocalypse' yachts useless CEOs can buy.
