tw nonhuman whumpee, framed for murder, death threat, held at knifepoint (swordpoint?)
"Okay– okay, let's not– let's not get carried away here," Whumpee forced out, pressing their back into the wall even more. They had been running from the hunter for weeks, and just when they thought they were finally in the clear...
"Do you think that's an appropriate request to make?" They dug the point of their silver-covered sword into Whumpee's neck, and they hissed when it started burning. Great. There was no way to explain that, even in their human form. "You've been murdering innocents everywhere you went, terrorising entire villages."
"I wasn't! I wasn't, please, that wasn't me–"
"Wasn't it?"
Whumpee was very aware of just how cornered they were. They could barely think with the scent of their own burnt flesh filling their nose, but they tried anyway, because there had to have been a reason the hunter hadn't chopped their head clean off. Yet.
"I only ever take livestock," they said sincerely. "I'd never hurt a human. I was human once! Before the bite! And I know it's still terrible, I'm still a thief, but I'm not a murderer."
The hunter's face was unreadable. The only reason Whumpee knew they were even considering their words was because they still weren't dead. "Someone has been murdering people. And the victims line up perfectly with sightings of a werewolf."
"I don't know who it is... I don't know. Someone, someone's following me, trying to get away with murders by using me as–"
"Do you expect me to believe that?"
Whumpee swallowed. It was the truth. How were they supposed to prove that? "Why am I still alive if you don't believe me?" they asked quietly. "You must have at least some doubts. I mean, surely, you don't want to make a fatal mistake like punishing the innocent, right? So take me captive, then! Take me and see whether the murders continue. If they don't– if they don't, then..."
"Then I'll kill you," they finished coldly, and Whumpee knew they meant it. If the copycat were to suddenly stop, they would be murdered in cold blood.
"Th-then you'll kill me."

It had me on the edge of my seat!
The kid stakes, 1927, Australia
Tumblr media
"Fatty and his goat Hector challenge rival Bruiser Murphy and his goat Stonker to compete in a billycart race - 'The Kid Stakes'. ... Beautifully filmed around the inner-city streets of Woolloomooloo, (...) and Rockhampton in central Queensland for the goat race scenes, The Kid Stakes is one of the real gems of Australian silent era cinema, with wide appeal to all ages and a charm that continues to this day." I love how they keep referencing that movie!

Framed?
Michelle raised her hands to her lustrous black hair in horror. The swimsuit clad beauty had finally persuaded her husband’s best friend, Jim, to come clean about the numbers racket he had got mixed up in and had even implicated her own poor dim Don. On a solitary boat trip on Lake Eagle, Michelle had utilised all her considerable powers of female persuasion to get Jim to confess everything and had even got the guilt-wracked man to agree to speak to the cops. Soon the pair were back at the small quay. “I’m sorry to have to do this, Jim,” the resourceful woman had told her miserable-looking boating companion as she then tied his hands behind his back with some the vessel’s rope, “but I just need to make sure you don’t change your mind while I go back to the cabin and call the police.” Her captive had nodded sadly, seemingly relieved at having finally told the truth and willing to face justice.
That had been just thirty short minutes ago and now Michelle stood looking aghast at the slumped form of the Jim, his hands still bound behind him, but fallen face first onto the moored boat’s storage hatch. “J-Ji…” the woman began, but she knew calling her erstwhile prisoner’s name was pointless: Jim was very clearly dead. As confused and frightening thoughts crowded into Michelle’s mind, an overwhelming sense of dread nearly overcame her. The police were on their way and the last person to see Jim alive was herself! Had someone just put the innocent Michelle in the frame for murder?
My interpretation of the story behind the cover to True Detective magazine (August 1961).

Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries ("Framed for Murder") / Essie Davis as Phryne Fisher
Appropriately enough, Miss Fisher wears this jacket and jodhpurs combo to a movie set. The whole outfit is pretty clearly based on menswear, but she gives it a feminine twist with the fit and the color coordination.
The jacket seems to be a light celery green in the publicity shots, but it takes on a darker, more mossy tone in the screencaps. My favorite part has got to be those lovely green gloves!
I've also included a closeup of the boots showing the unusual combination of laces and straps.

Tonight then from the series Cannon - Blood Money (S03E20) from 1974. Cast: William Conrad as Frank Cannon Peter Haskell as Tom Brannon Perry King as Dr. Stephen Danver Russell Johnson as DA John Romano Diana Muldaur as Ava Brannigan John Milford as Leroy Vincent Kathleen Miller as Julie Danver William (Bill) Joyce as E.T. Brannigan and many more
Story: A young doctor arrives at a prison to examine a prisoner. During the examination the prisoner reaches into the doctor's bag and removes a pistol. Cannon is hired to prove the doctor was an unwitting participant in the attempted jailbreak. (from IMDB again) Speaking of tv baddies, such as the legendary Jack Cassidy, Peter Haskall had his fair share of nasty moments. Here he's the best of worst playing a cad (in a three piece suit) who is after a fortune in missing money that turns out to be sequestered coins. The plot is quite similar to a MANNIX story as there are a lot of twists and turns and a good shootout as Cannon goes up against a sniper (wearing thick glasses!) on a hill. The beautiful Diana Muldaur, who appeared in just about every crime show on tv, is on Cannon's side, caught in between the mystery and honorable mention to Russell Johnson (also in a three piece suit), best known as the professor on GILLIGAN'S ISLAND. Johnson was actually an accomplished dramatic actor and had some good roles come his way over the years. The story is in two parts, as it all begins with an attempted prison escape and the gun in question hidden in a doctor's bag. This may have been taken from real life headlines, too. A very good script, which returns to the day when writers may have been more creative, or at least conjured up some diabolical bad guys. Watching slimy Haskell get his due, without giving too much away, is fun stuff. SEASON 3 CBS dvd box set. - by tcchelsey on IMDB A guy in prison is shot while trying to make a ridiculously impossible escape. It seems he got a gun out of a doctor's bag and tried to shoot his way out! Now the doctor is in trouble because he's accused of trying to facilitate the escape and Cannon's job is to determine if he was involved or not. The case later evolves a bit and becomes a search for missing money which, it turns out, is hidden in valuable coins. This is a modestly interesting episode of "Cannon" and in some ways reminded me of "The Fugitive". After all, the guy trying to escape might be innocent AND William Conrad (Cannon) was the narrator for this excellent 1960s series. Do yourself a favor and try it...the show is a bit better than "Cannon". - by planktonrules on IMDB Thoughts: The doctor (King) doesn't seem to notice that he's set up or better framed behind his back, and Brannon (Haskell) uses everyone to his own play, like he can - with money, which he's after in reality. So he and Cannon play a bit cat and mouse and see who's quicker and better but as usual, Cannon wins and even finds the hidden money.
Can be found on Youtube if interested, even in HD quality.

You're one of the ardent believers, a good American, or the millions like you. People that plod along without asking questions. I hate to use the word "stupid", but it seems to be the only one that applies. The great masses, the moron millions.

Whumptober Day 3: Solitary Confinement
Undertale Fanfic
Sans was served food again. He wasn't showing it, but mentally he was going insane. He's been alone behind these bars for months, at least six, he thinks. It's not like you can keep track of time in here.
The guards were under strict instructions to not talk to him, which sucked for him as he needed to have a conversation with someone, anyone. He wasn't used to not being able to talk to anyone.
That damn human never reset, and what did they do this reset? They decided to steal one of his gaster blasters and frame him for genocide. What kind of sicko does that? And how did that brute know how to use a magical object that required training.
At least no one cared when he slept in here, though some visitors would be nice. Just his brother. Sans wondered how Papyrus was doing alone, he would write, but he wasn't allowed letters.
"Damn human, reset already." The problem with solitary confinement is eventually you run out of things to do. And you only get a notebook once in a while. All Sans wanted was some interaction, please. He could feel himself going insane without it. He wasn't made for this.
This is why he hates humans. The power goes to their head, and they are a near unstoppable force in the underground, always getting what they want.
