It’s so fascinating how Raphaniel Charlock is a bard/rogue and not a cleric.
I think he believes moreso in the soft power of song and stories and faith on social constructs, than the hard power of magic and dieties and worship.
Like, the Bulb is a source of magic but so are a lot of other things. There are after all, stranger things in heaven and earth, than are dreamt in our philosophy.
But the story of the Bulbian Church — the scriptures, the tenets, the history, the saints, the catechism, the pedagogy — these things have an influence on people’s lives in ways that maybe even the clerics and paladins don’t fully appreciate.

observing holidays that you don't actually observe is a thing I still haven't managed to wrap my head around. like I was really into Christmas for a bit but then I realised I was actually just really into Santa Claus (😏) and Trans-Siberian Orchestra and, idk, pine trees with snow on them. unfortunately, those are all inextricably wrapped up in a Christian holiday, but I still can't truly say I "celebrate Christmas" because I don't. people celebrate it around me and I'm just along for the ride (because it's actually harder to not go along for the ride, and I don't have a real reason to be that obstinate about it, especially since I'm enjoying the tertiary trappings)
I guess that's the problem with cultural Christianity. you can't really just take and leave things, not cleanly. it's all bound up together, because that's how culture works. Easter's kind of weird, though. I can put together how all those disparate elements got folded into Christianity but where the fuck did the bunny rabbits come from.* can I just take the bunny rabbits and springtime-flower arrangements and run 🤔 or are they too Jesus-flavoured by association now
but ultimately I just think it's weird to be like "we're doing xyz for Easter" and none of those things are going to church or doing anything actually related to the Christianity of it all. in that case you might as well just be saying "we're doing xyz for the last Sunday in March" because that's about the same amount of significance. but I guess when your entire society is overbearingly pushing this holiday upon you, it's easier to just go along, like I just said about Christmas. blargh
