So Benny *was* made aware that his last show was a super spreader, but instead of addressing it he’s just asking people to be careful for his upcoming shows. I have to laugh 😂😂😂😂
Me though that it was more of a standard girls look after yerselves when ye out and about kind of talk cuz ye know, men are monsters?
But now when ye frame it this waaaay
I mean kinda not his fault cuz it's the overall society that decided to 'live with the virus' is just to say 'this is how it is now' and hit that ignore button lol ON THE OTHER HAND this is the pop up that comes up on his venue website sooooo idk seems to me like saying take care is easier than very possibly cutting ticket sales

The Spear Cuts Through Water by Simon Jimenez decided to give me massive diaspora feelings. Just the fact that Keema is so so afraid to die, as young men are wont to do, and that the narrator who lives a "a strange life" and ordinary life who is "sometimes" proud to be of their ethnicity. And that that is who is returns the spear into the narrative, and that is what solidifies Keema's determination to save the 'Old Country' despite explicitly stating his creating the mythos of the Daware and joining the quest for personal glory. And then the narrator in turn 'saving' Jun and Keema in the moonlight theater and how that mirrors oral traditions preserve culture.

thinking abt elektra and her being doomed by the narrative. just!! the only thing that is ever fully your choice is dying and you cant even have that. you want so badly to be good but the narrative, fate, the universe, whatever never lets you be. the only good thing you can ever do is die and even that is in the service of someone elses mission!! and still, and still, you dont get to keep it. so what if its different in other universes? in this one, you will never have an ending that is yours.

i'm a bit too tired to put together an appropriately coherent argument right now, but i feel the need to speak on the 'vote blue no matter who' thing because it keeps coming up on my dash and i'm fucking tired of it.
stop trying to beg a system to get better when that system was designed to hold power over you, when it benefits from staying as is, when it wants to keep you down and on a leash. You are voting for the fucking leash man, not the person holding it. You know why negotiations for a ceasefire have been falling flat? Because Israel never cared about morals--there's no use in begging the colonial entity to have some conscience because we wouldn't fucking be here right now if they could be talked out of genocide. If there are train tracks that both go through hospitals, you don't fucking wonder which hospital has less people in it, you wonder who the fuck designed the damn tracks to go through a hospital! And then you fucking redesign them so that shit doesn't happen! You don't hire the same guy who built the tracks to do it again either because who knows if he's gonna just build them through more hospitals--you rip those rails up yourself, got it?

You are right on every account in that tiktk reblog tags, except for one thing. Putin maybe didn't veto humanitarian corridors, but he sure did shell them. Several times.
Oh. I knew he'd sabotaged them somehow but I forgot how. Hard to keep track of all his war crimes. I didn't mean to imply that he was better for allowing one, just that he knew how to play the optics better, which is what I meant by "how is Biden WORSE at spinning a narrative than Putin". I'm sorry if I gave the impression that I was giving him any credit whatsoever.
Also I started out by saying that the previous Israeli governments colluded with the US and conceded to ceasefires so that they could pick civilians off one by one while the US played up their PR by playing the mediator. I meant that context to be carried into Putin's actions too but I realize that wasn't obvious. The man only tries to look like he's playing ball if it serves his agenda better.
Imperialists are all like that tbh. If you want to know the difference between a fascist and an imperialist, it's that the fascist thinks too small.

Ok Figure Me Out is done and now I'm gonna cross-post something that I put in the comments bc it's Country Wolfwood Rights O'clock:
Being very, very close to someone grants you the ability to use possessive language about them, and it means you'd die and kill for them. Not necessarily romantic, but an indicator that they're part of your group. Like Wolfwood could say "yeah, that sounds like my needle-noggin" and it'd be understood that anything that involves one of them automatically involves the other. He kinda said that to indicate to Vash that no matter how weird things got, Vash is still "part of his group". Vash, tragically, isn't country enough to pick up on this, but if he ever said "my preacher man" Wolfwood would get the world's greatest power-up and beat Knives' ass with a cast iron skillet.

being russian is living with this constant voice in the back of your mind always telling you to explain yourself; to convince others that you're also a human just like they are, with your own wants and fears and goals in life. this was the case even before feb‘22, and it's understandably worse now. but if anything good came out of those almost two years is that I don't feel like explaining myself anymore. life always kinda sucked here and it feels like the world is about to end for the past god knows how many years — well, boo fkin hoo, so what if some internet rando doesn't like me because of the place on the map I was unfortunate enough to spawn in? I just don't understand this need to divide that so many people have, always based on some stupid prejudice. part of why I'm always wary about people like yoonie who always seem to hold some unreasonable biases towards others: like, is this really because of some valid reason, which you seem to fail to provide, or is this because they were unfortunate enough to spawn in a specific place during an unfortunate historical period? or whatever else you just don't care to understand? I don't even know what this rant is about. I guess you mentioning yourself stepping up for some russian simmer just warmed something in my cold siberian heart, lololol. sorry for mistakes if any and stay safe out there! also feel free to delete this or whatever
p.s. your posts are always so inspiring and cool to look at! definitely one of my favorite simblrs
It never felt right to me as an american to hold such a strong bias towards a entire group of people for the actions of their government, i don't blame people for feeling the way they do in that regard, especially if that government is killing them. i just don't think its my place speak on it or really anyone who isn't effected, to have an opinion like that, plus i am not demonizing an entire group of people cause of the actions of a few. its dangerous and it be dumb ass hell as someone who's lived with people having interpretation about you based on where you live, what you look like etc. i just wanted you know i here ya and appreciate the kindness!

tl;dr - my personal nightmare scenario where the free market invents new forms of human trafficking to profit off social assistance already exists
I am very much for universal basic income or negative taxation but not in the uncritical techbro utopian sense that robots are coming for all our jobs and therefore techbros ought to qualify for a pension instead of unemployment when they get laid off for good (and non-techbros can also have the pension, aren't they generous, not supporting them is illogical).
But I worry that reducing the social problem of inequality and it's solution down to "everyone gets cash money by default" and nothing else about society changes brings about all sorts of horrible foreseeable consequences where bad actors decide to profit by using people as a source of revenue.
For example: rents go up, especially the lowest rents. Housing is still scarce and landlords know even the worst-off people have access to a certain amount of cash per week, and they put the rent up accordingly. Without universal housing, the private market can simply siphon off UBI from individuals.
Perhaps then the law intervenes and rent is capped. Housing is still scarce and options are still limited at the lower end of affordability. Landlords work out how to charge for extras, lure tenants in with what seem like really good deals, then the tenants discover nothing is as promised and they're still on the hook for lease break fees and other penalties if they try to complain or move out.
The point is, UBI is just one part of the system of living standards and it can't and won't solve inequality on its own. It's not a complete solution for people who are already at a systemic disadvantage.
The nightmare scenario for UBI is that it unintentionally incentivises new forms of human trafficking. We're already seeing this in Australia with NDIS. TW: abuse, human trafficking.
Australia is a wealthy country with social support systems in place. But those systems aren't robust enough to prevent bad actors farming cash off people who suddenly have money in their budget for living expenses.
I don't think it's possible for a UBI to work in a system where basic needs are allowed to be supplied for profit. UBI ought to be one component in a broader system of guaranteed living standards that includes housing, health and personal care, education, transit, communications, energy and safety.
I am still pro-UBI but I want it to be part of a system that works as intended, to benefit people rather than making it possible to take advantage of them. Protecting NDIS participants is inherently important right now and seems like a great test case for reshaping social support systems that will be useful if/when UBI ever becomes reality.
