Alright, so lemme just hop on here to scream about the reveal that Izzy was about to give the ring to someone and about what, after some discussion, seem to be the likely possibilities:

1. The obvious thing. He was going to give it to Ed but never worked up the nerve (“Izzy never let himself fall in love”) and then Stede came along.

2. He was going to give it to Fang. He and Fang were shown to be very close. The knee-sitting theory has been marinating in my bones now. And Fang was going to wear a veil at the funeral.

3. Ouizzy, baby. Supported by the crumbs we’ve all been feasting on, the fact that Frenchie handled the neck tie at the funeral, the emerald is his color, Con himself has said if he could pick anyone for Izzy, he’d have Frenchie, Frenchie becomes Captain, AND Con’s words were apparently that he was “about to” give it to someone. Which can mean he was going to in his headcanon and was stopped short by what happened in the finale, OR… he was going to be back in s3, Ouizzy was going to be canon and maybe they were even going to retire together (the last part is just what I want to see, personally, but 🫠)

Anyway, there are so many possibilities and all of them are making my gums bleed and my brain turn to jelly.

theorizing that the ship is now frenchie’s revenge because izzy’s death was the one thing he couldn’t lock away in his mental box.

you can’t tell me frenchie didn’t love izzy when he kept him alive behind ed’s back, knowing what kind of punishment he was putting himself at risk for. he took the chances anyways to save is. the box won’t close for frenchie until he gets revenge for his late love ):

At least there’s a part of him down there with Lucius, keeping him company. The other part, is lying with the rest of the old crew, as still as they are. He wonders if he’ll keep fragmenting until there’s absolutely nothing of him here, now. Good. If he isn’t there at all, Blackbeard can’t hurt him. It’s quite a solid plan.

Thinking about Frenchie holding Izzy’s hand as the crew talk sense into him about his toxic relationship with Blackbeard. How Frenchie knew he needed all the comfort he could get, even though he was being held by Fang. Even though Frenchie has all his trauma locked up in a box in his brain.

Thinking about Frenchie saving and hiding Izzy at great risk to himself. About Jim and Archie helping Izzy after getting shot by Blackbeard. About Frenchie using Izzy’s thigh as a pillow when they’re in prison awaiting death. They’re a crew. A family. They love each other.

i’d like to believe frenchie kept oluwande’s room after ed deserted half of the crew. frenchie was probably really keen on having his own room (probably sad and missing wee john) for a while.

but, he didn’t want izzy to sleep by himself, so frenchie sacrificed his own privacy in attempts to protect iz from ed. they probably enjoyed each other’s silence. they probably shared stories about their lives before. they might have even let an occasional ‘goodnight’ slip out after a long night of quietly giggling and chatting away. frenchie was always there when things went south, he would comfort iz after a long day. allowing the hard shelled first-mate to lay in his lap.

and that’s probably what frenchie misses the most. not his room, not his previous captain. but looking at izzy’s face and being able to gently brush his fingers through his hair, humming the song iz would request so often, la vie en rose.
