I was thinking it'd kind of be nice sitting on the couch with someone, maybe watching a movie or just cuddling, close & comfy.. they start growing slowly, and it takes them a bit to notice, but they just keep growing. Being already so close and snuggled... I think it could be special.

No, but you're so right and you should say it. Casual, comfortable growth is an absolute champion and it should be celebrated more.

It's a movie the both of you have seen a dozen times, but you still laugh at the jokes and mouth key lines along with the actors. They lean their head against your shoulder, settling in under the blanket across both of your laps, a bowl of popcorn nestled comfortably between the two of you. It's a place the two of you have been so many times before and yet it's still so nice to come back to.

About half an hour into the movie, they start to shift. Something just feels a little off. The discomfort isn't bad enough to pause the movie or even get out from under the blanket, but it still warrants a little adjustment. They sit up and adjust their shirt, tugging it down where it's ridden up, their brow furrowed as it seems a bit tighter than it did when they sat down. Their belt, too, seems a little constricting, but it's at least easier to blame that on the now mostly empty bowl of popcorn. You glance out of the corner of your eye and maybe you recognize that their chest looks a bit softer, a bit fuller than it did earlier. Could just be the light of the TV, though. You brush it off as they settle back in for the rest of the movie.

Another thirty minutes and the growth is getting harder to ignore. On two separate occasions, their head has bumped into your chin and they've had to shift their hips to remain in the same spot. But the blanket is so comfy and the movie isn't even half over. The two of you share a knowing glance, eyes meeting as you glance to the side, and their lips curl into a charming smirk. They yawn, stretching their arms above their head, arching their back. The seam of their shirt audibly creaks and the anime characters on the front warp as the fabric stretches over their swollen breasts. They reach down and undo the button of their jeans, their hips surging out to the side as they're no longer contained.

But the end of the movie, the two of you are still cuddled up together, just in a slightly different way. Instead of them leaning against you, you're now perched on their lap, soft thigh and wide hips supporting you from underneath. Their enormous breasts make for slightly embarrassing but incredibly comfortable pillows as you lean back into them, feeling their chest rise and fall with each breath. After the credits roll, you tilt your head up to look at them, meeting their gaze as they look down at you. A tension fills the room, a question lingering in the air: which one of you will broach the subject first? Which one of you will acknowledge what's changed in the last two hours? They do have an easier solution, though:

"...You wanna watch another one?"

Steve buries his face in his pillow and lets out a muffled scream.

He regrets everything. Wants to find a dark hole to crawl into and disappear. Better yet, a block of ice. Maybe by the time he unfreezes, everyone will have forgotten this ever happened.

"You are aware of his record, though, aren't you?" Natasha asks.

Steve nods, gripping the pillow tighter.

"He's pretty dangerous..." Clint mumbles.

"So am I," Steve growls into the pillow.

Laughter.

Steve lifts his head from the pillow and glares at everyone.

"Steve..." Natasha says, smiling at him. "Everyone here can and will attest to the fact that you're an unbelievably skilled fighter, next to unmatched, and incredibly intelligent. Nobody can doubt that." She says, rubbing his shoulder. "But you wouldn't hurt a fly."

"Really," Clint says, "You wouldn't let us kill that bug last week. You had us realise it outside in a bush. We found it on the 87th floor. It was a bug, Steve."

"Point is," Natasha says, continuing. "You are a dangerous guy to go up against in a fight, but-"

"You're not Mr. Murder," Tony finishes.

"M'not naive," Steve says.

"We know you're not," Natasha says, "But we just don't know if the world's most feared assassin is really the best choice for your first romance out of the ice."

Steve drops his burning face back into the pillow.

Bruce, who'd been mostly silent, takes advantage of a lap in the conversation to speak. "This is really good, actually," he says, voice soft.

Everyone goes silent.

Steve looks up.

Everyone's staring at Bruce, shocked.

Clearing his throat, Bruce continues. "I'm glad Steve's reached a point in his recovery that he feels safe enough to feel these things."

Steve smiles at Bruce.

Bruce grins back. "So, bad boys?"

Steve groans.

Every so often my players make fun of me (the dm) for pronouncing paladin "puh-lah-din" while they all pronounce it "pal-uh-din" and to this day I don't know which pronunciation is correct but maybe I just know too many languages and have forgotten the language of origin to say paladin properly.

Oh I have so many thoughts on aroace Curly, I think it brings so much on the table when analyzing the game's story.

Amanormativity ties in with the reoccurring mentions of the nuclear family, from Wrong Organ making 1950s mock advert posters, to Swansea talking about how getting a wife and kids didn't bring him any fulfillment in life.

In the cake cutting nightmare sequence, where Jimmy talks with Dream Curly about the mediocre cake, Dream Curly begins to talk about how sometimes you can only get the subpar stuff in live. Sometimes he'll get promoted, buy a house, fall in love. But other times he'll just have some awful fucking cake with his friend.

I think there is that subtle implication that Jimmy does buy into Amanormativity, with him projecting his beliefs on Dream Curly that a platonic relationship is lesser then a romantic one. But we never see Curly suggesting that he wants such a thing in the pre-crash.

With Jimmy thinking that Curly has everything in life, except for the desire (although I think Jimmy would view it as Curly not having the skills for it) to get a romantic partner, he would heavily lean into getting the one thing that Curly couldn't get in life to one up him.

THATS EXACTLY WHAT IM THINKING!!! AMATONORMATIVITY BE DAMNED!!!!

Looking at Mouthwashing through an aroace lens is interesting

"Jimmy thinking that Curly has everything in life, except for the desire", well said, well said! And references to the nuclear family fit in very cleanly thematically for Mouthwashing.

Jimmy leaning into amatonormativity is a smart observation. Jim internalizes all the social norms and standards on what you have to do to have a normal and desirable life, who sees everything Curly has and what Jimmy wishes he had, and is offended that Curly isn't satisfied, that he has the "audacity" to be unhappy. Curly meanwhile only wishes for his life to be something he doesn't have to run from, because by all means, he has already reached a point where he should feel accomplished, but isn't. Curly doesn't want to be a freighter captain his whole life, he doesn't want to settle with his sustainable position, he just wants to be happy. Like Swansea who has reached the "ideal" outcome of his life, having a wife, kids and a good career, it will never feel as good as embracing all what society deems undesirable yet right for you.

Jimmy does imply to seeing himself as lesser as a friend, "fall in love" being a goal and a "cake with a friend" being something he "has to settle for", it's all in the subtleties with underlying themes of "what you're "supposed to want" by society's expectations" against "what feels right for you". Jimmy is frustrated that Curly is going to "leave the dirt behind him", when in actuality, letting the crew and him go is the last thing Curly wants. Curly wants to be with his friends, he deeply cares about his crew, and about his close friend.

Mouthwashing as a whole reads to me as platonic through and through. Swansea and Daisuke having such a meaningful familial bond, Curly and Anya being sweet, playful and caring without romance, Anya and Daisuke having something of a siblings dynamic are dear to me. Also it's really rare to get to see representations of "toxic friendship" in media. Its always toxic romance this, toxic yaoi that, toxic family there, however in reality, friendships aren't excluded from being as rotten and abusive as the others, yet they're often overlooked. Jim and Curly are especially unique in this way. It's very impressive how they managed to showcase Jimmy's mistreatment of Curly in such a platonic way (at least that how I read it). Jim too, like Curly, in general avoids hints at romance and attraction explicitly related to him during his gameplay, not with Curly, nor with Anya (dear god thanks for that at least). It's all spite, annoyance and parasitizing off of these two. (That man's dry and lowkey hates everyone and everything) No attraction attached, no desires except hoping it hurts.

Curly to me is very much aroace, or at least on the spectrum. Like, the trivia fact that one of Curly's fondest memories is that of his friends putting in effort to make a shitty awful cake, tells us all we need to know on how dear his friends are to him. Platonic relationships mean so much to Curly, even when it's Jimmy fucking Mouthwashing, the worst friend ever imaginable.

His is pretty, popular, well-known, and well-liked. He has gotten more confessions then he can count, been asked out more then he can count, been hit on and flirted with more then he can count. He knows hows to handle that. With a smirk, some teasing words, feeding into the flirting slightly but not getting anyone's hopes up. He knows how to handle it when someone saddles up next to him at a bar and makes their intentions clear, how to respond in carefully crafted and coy responses. Being chased is easy. He, however, does not know how to handle being the chaser. You are so attractive, so close with him, so unbelievably interesting. And he's an awkward mess. He doesn't know how to flirt with you even though he's carefully flirted back with people chasing him since he first grew into his pretty boy features. He doesn't know how to ask you out, let alone voice his feelings. He can't stop his breath from catching when you respond to his teasing with a response on the line of flirting, even though people have done that to him before. He seems to forget everything around you, how to speak, how to breathe. Any time he thinks he's worked himself up enough to say something to you, he can't and all the sudden he's awkward and unprepared, as if he's in middle school with his first crush. He doesn't know what to do or how to act and he suddenly feels a new resigned respect for all the people who have confessed to him and flirted with him who he never payed attention to. Because if there's one things you've made him realize, it's that being chased is easy and being the chaser might be impossible.

I was pleased when he started putting on weight. I’ve always associated weight gain with good health and happiness, so naturally I took it as a good thing.
