MOBILITY AIDS AREN’T BAD FOR FND PATIENTS!
Many FND patients have been told that it is unwise to use mobility aids because it will “encourage the brain to keep producing symptoms.” This is based on the idea of conversion disorder, made by Stinkmund Freud, which has been since been disproved.
Despite this idea, my experience with using mobility aids is much different than what doctors told me it would be. Personally, using mobility aids and supporting myself has actually lessened my symptoms, and, most importantly, the impact they have on my life.
My wheelchair has been the most helpful of all the mobility aids I’ve had. I started using my chair because of my paralysis, but it’s done so much more for me. It’s eliminated the worry of being stuck somewhere and not being able to walk, and prevented me from many falls.
I also used crutches and a cane once upon a time, and they helped me greatly with my needs back then. they provided support and stability, and I found that they helped me get out of flare ups easier and gave me more energy to expend on things I actually wanted to do.
Of course, what’s right for me may not be right for you. Everyone’s FND is different and will react differently to mobility aids. But I don’t want anyone to think that mobility aids are always out of the picture for usage in management of FND.
Lastly, using a mobility aid without any medical guidance can be dangerous. It’s important to get in touch with a professional who can help teach you how to use the aid. If you don’t have access, make sure you do thorough research on the topic from reliable sources.

Orm looms over her shoulder. "The gods took your weapons and gave you children."
She goes as rigid as the resting city.
Orm's clover-shaped face folds with a clatter, shuttering; the warforged is laughing. "I steal the words from Maes. Credit your surprise to them, not I."
"You are not children," Valka answers eventually. "When the warforged woke, they - you - understood violence. You understood that you were being used."
"Did we?" Orm asks. "Would children?"
some less polished warforged, D6 and Orm. these guys weren't gonna come up for a long while, in a self-governing, physically walking warforged settlement named Wanderstrand - a lifestyle only possible, with the destruction after the war, when your main population doesn't require any food or water from the land it visits.

Dear Vector Prime, where do Cybertronians that have animal auto modes or non vehicles auto modes fall in the Functionism cast system?
Dear Form Factionalist,
Unfortunately, most ‘bots with animal forms fell quite outside the bounds of Functionism! Following the disappearance of “Onyx Prime” from Cybertron at the end of the First Cybertronian Civil War, those beast-formers who had already not left the planet wound up largely excluded from the Grand Cybertronian Taxonomy, disparaged as little more than “throwbacks” from a primitive age. Initially, most beast-formers simply rejected Nova Prime’s burgeoning society and left to continue their life in the wilderness as they always had—hunting turbofoxes, foraging for natural energon deposits, and marking their territories. Elders who had lived through the reign of the Primes passed down traditional knowledge to younger ‘bots, who raised cairns and mounds to memorialize an era of peace and prosperity they’d never known.
With the passage of time, however, Cybertronian society continued to urbanize, pushing these last holdouts into smaller and smaller tracts of untamed land. When it became clear that these hardliners would not surrender their territory, Nominus Prime and the Senate passed legislation that would formally recognize a number of beast-form genera into the growing Grand Cybertronian Taxonomy—a legislative tactic that quite annoyed the Functionist Council!
Unfortunately, most beast-formers occupied a very low rank on the Functionist hierarchy. Within the bounds of “polite society”, the best that most beast-formers could hope for was a job at one of Cybertron’s many research and development firms, where beast-formers would be regularly used as test subjects for new surgical techniques, various addictive drinks, or new forms of electronic paint. A few, such as Krok, deliberately removed their transformation cogs and joined the Militant Monoform Movement in an attempt to distance themselves from their origins.
However, other beast-formers found lucrative jobs in Cybertron’s criminal underworld—some, like Scorponok, became frightening enforcers. Others operated black-market relinquishment clinics, catering to those rare Cybertronians who wanted to experience the forbidden thrill of experiencing life as a cybercat or lupinoid.

sowing: I learned how to use a handspindle with a distaff recently (like you see in historical pictures) and it's SO easy, it's literally so easy, I never really got the hang of hand spindles before but this is so easy, the yarn almost spins itself, I could go through this entire 200g braid in 3 days, I could spin enough to make a whole garment!! Bow before me! I am the king and queen of fibre crafting!!!!
reaping: ouch my hand :(

It’s so funny to me when people tell me my FND is a psychological condition.
Like, FND stands for functional NEUROLOGICAL disorder. Not functional psychological disorder.
Also, if it is a psychological condition, why can’t I move my legs? Why does my oxygen go down during my seizures, and why the hell am I a full time wheelchair user??? Make it make sense.

Non-epileptic seizure doesn't mean that the seizure is due to FND or PNES! There are much more conditions than epilepsy and PNES. Stop seeing only white and black, when there exists a gray side.

do you have any thoughts on functional neurological disorder?
it’s one of the cruelest inventions of modern medicine.
for a bit of context on my positionality i don’t currently have an fnd diagnosis but i am at huge risk of one (my rheumatologist already thinks i have a conversion disorder) & it’s one of the many reasons i’m terrified to pursue a second neurologist after my first one dumped me. fnd is, like, maybe not the pinnacle but definitely a major player in the field of doctors gaslighting us as hard as possible & being furious every time it doesn’t work.
i’m not gonna find these articles bc it gets to a point of self harm for me to (re)read some of this shit but literally doctors are like “the more convinced patients are there’s something wrong the more they’re lying,” “the more symptoms patients have the more likely it is to be fnd and not something really wrong,” etc. again just unfathomably cruel. also the fact that mainstream medicine can unironically write that people with hypermobility are “more likely to have fnd” rather than going huh maybe there’s a neurological component here is just. what the fuck are y’all doing.
a really fun (fucked up) “i told you so” moment with the social construction of the ‘real vs fake’ tics false binary was when doctors literally can’t tell the difference based on their own bullshit criteria.
i highly recommend checking out @fndportal for incredibly insightful thoughts on a lot of these issues. sociological research on post-hysteria diagnoses & the genealogy of hysteria has also been super helpful for me although it’s obviously a very difficult history.
on a peer support level i think disability community is especially vital in the face of these kinds of psychological warfare from doctors. & to anybody who’s been diagnosed with fnd or similar conditions: i believe you. something is really wrong, it is not your fault (& it would be okay, & you’d still deserve effective compassionate care, if it was), you’re not making it up.
obviously i personally want to destroy the whole thing from the ground up, but if i could change one thing about the medical field, it’d be that it needs, desperately & urgently, to create space for not knowing. to say “something is happening here but science hasn’t caught up with it yet.” …unfortunately, to do so would be to destroy medicine from the ground up, because the whole project is predicated on the manufactured authority of knowing our bodies wholly & irrevocably, of rendering our own knowledge irrelevant at best & lies at worst.
also imo cbt, especially for a physical symptom, is evil & in situations where people can ghost their doctors rather than go i wholeheartedly support that.
