💥FUNCTIONAL💥As an Occupational Therapist this is one of my favorite words! How does this (movement, exercise, posture or tool) improve a person's function? How do the elements of yoga practice impact how a person is able to FUNCTION in the rest of their day? In a world where social media is pushing asana toward the realm of contortion I constantly come back to the question of WHY? 👉 WHY are we doing this posture? What function does it serve...will they be able to get up off the floor more effectively, will this prevent falls, does this improve body awareness...? THE YOGA WHITE BOARD: we are moving into a new series in #yogafocus to build on our exploration of the foundations of mindfulness...we are now looking at the difference between EXTERNAL & INTERNAL mindfulness & how this creates the foundation for self-study, self-awareness and self-regulation. 💥we spend a ton of time in yoga talking about alignment, anatomy and the physical body...but i really see the invisible skills of the practice as the MOST relevant & applicable to our real life. An 'Active Recovery' is one of the best solution for muscle soreness!! You know one of those mornings when u feel ur elements collapsing 😂😂😅 in Modern Vinyasa system of yoga too much emphasis has been paid to pushing movement, not considering most of our strength comes from muscles which are primarily for pulling. Also engaging the type2 fibre in the muscle responsible for dynamic strength & power far efficiently!! Try incorporate pulling movements wih the help of #TRX & other such tools or well we always got the good ol' strap 👌😊 don't tell me, u've only been using it to touch ur toes or stretch ur shoulders 😅 #functionalYoga
