The fact that Star Trek: Discovery has a mycologist character who is named after a real, actual, currently living mycologist who could at any point in time sit down and watch an episode of Star Trek: Discovery is so funny. They didn't even lift like just his first or last name, Paul Stamets the spore drive engineer is named after Paul Stamets the guy on the cover of the Fungi Perfecti catalog we just got in the mail today.
And like. The Star Trek universe is literally just our universe in the future. So this implies that either 1) totally by coincidence, there just so happened to be two guys named Paul Stamets who both decided to become prominent mycologists or 2) the 23rd century Paul Stamets was influenced by the knowledge that he had an ancestor (?) that was also really into mushrooms. Either way the future Paul Stamets could have read books written by the actual present Paul Stamets.
It's chaos. I think more fictional characters should be named after mildly prominent academics (or adjacent) for no explicable reason. A space ecologist named Robin Kimmerer. Mechanic who repairs cyborg implants on a distant spaceport name Donna Haraway. Second mushroom scientist who argues with future Paul Stamets at space academic conferences named Merlin Sheldrake. Make future academics' citation sections a nightmare.

“Mobilizing Mushrooms against AIDS Several mushroom species—oyster, shiitake, maitake, turkey tails, and other polypores—have shown anti-HIV activity under certain circumstances. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded a small clinical study using oyster mushrooms in conjunction with protease inhibitors. The application, entitled “Anti-Hyperlipidemic Effects of Oyster Mushrooms in the CAM Therapy in the Treatment of HIV/AIDS,” was approved in late 2003 with trials scheduled to start in mid-2005 and to be supervised by the School of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (Abrams 2004). Our mushroom farm, Fungi Perfecti, grew a strain of oyster mushrooms for these trials that were frozen, freeze-dried, and powdered for consumption. This may be the first clinical trial funded by the NIH to study the medicinal effects of ingesting mushrooms. Updates will be posted at www.fungi.com. Protease inhibitors, commonly prescribed to combat HIV, interfere with lipid metabolism in the liver, causing an accumulation of “bad” cholesterol, LDL. From the hyperaccumulation of LDL, many patients suffer from arteriolosclerosis, endocrine disruption, and heart disease. Oyster mushrooms contain a natural isomer of lovastatin (an inhibitor of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase), an FDA-approved cholesterol-lowering[…]” Excerpt From: Paul Stamets. “Mycelium Running: How Mushrooms Can Help Save the World."

Hey, corporations, here’s a model for how to respond to pandemics:
Tumblr media
If you tell your employees to stay home when sick - an OBVIOUS and NECESSARY move - you also need to pay them for sick time. Or else, guess what? They’ll come to work sick. Because if they don’t get paid, many (especially low-wage workers) can’t afford to stay home.
We’ve all gotten a bunch of emails from companies explaining that they’re telling sick employees to stay home. Fungi Perfecti (a mushroom supplier) is the first I’ve seen to offer increased sick time to ensure that they do. Time for everyone else to step up.
This plague is a huge exclamation point on why we need Universal Healthcare, so workers don’t rely on profit-driven corporations and profit-driven insurance companies to stay alive and healthy.

What is Fungi? Definition, Classification, Examples
What is Fungi? Definition, Classification, Examples
In this tutorial, we have defined ‘What is Fungi?‘ and explored ‘Classification of fungi‘, ‘Economic Importance of fungi’, ‘Affinities‘ etc.  — Fungi Definition: Fungi (singular, fungus) are achlorophyllous, heterotrophic, spore-forming, non-vascular, eucaryotic organisms or plants, which reproduce both sexually and asexually and whose generally filamentous and much branched plant body (mycelium)…

Organic Rice - The Healthy Option
In 2017, Paul Stamets and his group in Fungi Perfecti, LLC (FP) have partnered with Organic Immune Systems, Inc. (NIS) to clarify the immune-enhancing consequences of different mushroom ingredients. where to buy organic rice?NIS Labs specializes in bio-relevant assays, integrating their laboratory and clinical centers to assess how natural products affect human anatomy. Collectively, NIS Labs and FP are uncovering some remarkable truths about mushroom ingredients used in the supplement industry. To test for activation of various immune factors, three Host Defense® new products were put to the test:Testing by NIS Labs confirmed that these 3 mycelium-centered products:increase inherent immune cells for protection*activate white blood cells for immune power *regulate immune cell substances for a balanced immune reaction.
As mushroom mycelium develops through brown rice, it creates a near-inseparable matrix of mycelium and enzymatically-converted substance. Using a costly and time-consuming laboratory procedure, researchers were able to distinguish pure Turkey Tail mycelium in the cultured rice substrate. Testing verified both the mycelium and the cultured rice substrate as immunologically active. * Furthermore, the mycelium and the cultured rice substrate are busy in different ways, every conferring unique and complimentary immune benefits. *By comparison, the exact same immune assays were performed on organic brown rice substrate that wasn't cultured by mushroom mycelium. With all the plain, uncultured rice, no significant immune activity was detected.
This information definitively demonstrates that cultured mycelium on organic brown rice is extremely active in supporting immunity. *Consumers must remember it is not possible to separate mushroom mycelium from its grain substrate under normal circumstances. Comparable to yogurt, in which beneficial bacteria such as Lactobacillus cultures milk, both of these nutrient sources exist as a living, interconnected matrix. Alongside the pure mycelium, the cultured rice substrate becomes a new, where to buy organic brown rice?integrated operational food supplying complete and effectual support for immune function. *Some sellers from the mushroom supplement space deceptively assert that mycelium grown on a grain substrate isn't helpful for customers and that just mushroom fruitbodies are valuable in supporting health.
These claims contradict countless articles published in the scientific literature demonstrating the health-enhancing worthiness of mushroom mycelium grown on grain substrates like best organic red rice suppliers in us, such as a NIH funded study confirming that the immunologically supporting action of Host Defense Turkey Tail mycelium capsules. *Paul Stamets notes"In my scientific opinion, mushroom products not incorporating mycelium are at a decided disadvantage, provided the results of current study ." Ongoing research efforts by Fungi Perfecti and NIS Labs are further demonstrating the deep significance of mushroom mycelium. Several papers are in preparation for publication from peer-reviewed immunological journals. Paul Stamets & Fungi Perfecti, LLC:Founder, owner and Director of Research of Fungi Perfecti, Paul Stamets, D.Sc. Has been known for decades as a leading innovator in the field of mycology, with a focus on showing the health-supporting qualities of mushrooms. As a renowned researcher and author of six novels, Stamets' Host Defense mushroom formulations have been the very sought-after and highly valued within the dietary supplement market.

Do You Believe in Magic? Psychedelic Mushrooms Shown to Have Lasting Health Effects
Tumblr media
Humans do not use the word 'magic' gently-- at the very least when it pertains to just what we consume (' large' or 'additional' ... well that's an additional story). We understand magic to be otherworldly-- drifting to our tedious lives from worlds envisioned-- conjured by our wishing for something extra. Answers, or a minimum of, possibilities, to describe this mysterious human condition. Perhaps.
One such otherworldly substance that may offer us a peek right into something beyond is that of the fungus. Mushrooms use us a panoply of advantages, from versatile culinary applications to the medical restoratives admired for thousands of uses, to the typically disregarded by mainstream culture psycho-spiritual impacts of the psilocybin aka the Magic Mushroom. Its advantages might really be the most considerable of the mycelium family members, as new study points to long-term advantages to human wellness ... yes, from a mushroom trip.
Ethnobotanist Terence McKenna is maybe the most well known proponent of psychedelic mushrooms. His study in the 1960s and '70s is recorded in a number of publications including True Hallucinations and The Archaic Revival. McKenna discovered psilocybin an especially powerful spiritual overview, wrapping up that psychedelic experiences had a profoundly liberating and beneficial impact on human consciousness. He claimed that a life lived 'in the lack of the psychedelic experience that primitive shamanism is based on is life trivialized, life refuted, life confined to the ego.'
Mushroom specialist, writer and also owner of Fungi Perfecti, Paul Stamets states that mushrooms are more than simply windows into the spirit world, however an intellingence with an understanding all its very own.' [M] ycelium is a revealed sentient membrane, conscious and responsive to adjustments in its environment,' states Stamets. 'These membrane layers understand, react to change, and collectively have the long-term health of the host atmosphere in mind. The mycelium remains in consistent molecular communication with its setting, developing diverse chemical and also chemical reactions to complicated difficulties."
Now, a recent study coming out of the psychiatry as well as neuroscience department at Johns Hopkins College Institution of Medication in Baltimore further suggests that ingesting psychedelic mushrooms might additionally have lasting as well as profoundly favorable character changes in just one dose, as observed in nearly 60 percent of the patients who took part in the study.
What the research team discovered was that the impacts-- sometimes lasting a year or even more-- left clients feeling a deeper feeling of 'openness' as well as a change in crucial personality aspects including the capability for creative imagination, much deeper connection to one's feelings and also a raised capability for grasping abstract and also theoretical suggestions. Some people mentioned it as one of the most significant spiritual experiences in their lives, seeing benefits in personal as well as specialist connections as well as boosted ability in dealing with difficult issues such as a significant disease or the loss of a loved one.
Study author, teacher Roland R. Griffiths, sees a possibility for healing usages for the mushrooms, citing the resilient advantages experienced by the research individuals that displayed boosted joy as well as expanded ability for imagination and openness caused by the hallucinatory nature of their psilocybin mushroom 'trip.'
MAPS (Multidisciplinary Organization for Psychedelic Studies) has been conducting comparable study with medications like MDMA (commonly referred to as the road medication Euphoria) as an efficient tool in treating post-traumatic stress problem specifically in returning soldiers, with outstanding results additionally coming as a result of a solitary session.
Unlike anti-depressants and other mood-altering drugs, psychedelics are not taken daily, and also the side impacts are dramatically less compared to those of lasting medication programs, if whatsoever, using another benefit to users. More research is still required on the results of psilocybin, states Griffith, that includes that people ought to not experiment with mushrooms at residence. These examinations were strictly managed in a risk-free, professional environment.

Mushrooms have taught me the interconnectedness of all life-forms and the molecular matrix that we share. I no longer feel that I am in this envelope of a human life called Paul Stamets. I am part of the stream of molecules that are flowing through nature. I am given a voice, given consciousness for a time, but I feel that I am part of this continuum of stardust into which I am born and to which I will return at the end of this life.
