Over 50 cm of snow is laying in my garden, the traffic is jammed, the roads are icy to a degree that is deadly, trees are collapsing, the internet and electricity is on and off constantly and I have strained my right hand where I accidentally tore my skin open earlier which infected and hurts like hell. In other words, this is not my week.
However, despite the fact that I am in pain, I made a drawing. It's unbelievably ugly, but it was my comfort. Please, accept this humble offering of content from a person who would like to to have a normal week for once. Thank you.

Ginny Weasley from Harry Potter and Eglantine from Guardians of Ga'Hoole.
Both are younger sisters who get essentially mind-controlled by people they trusted, are betrayed by said people and put in great danger because of that.

Ok but the whole bit with the Mandos and Imps fighting in the air with their jetpacks, I just. Got a massive Owls of Ga’Hoole vibe from that.

I think you guys are paranoid about your lore being too problematic and all of this fearmongering is unhelpful. Written words are allowed to be more graphic and disturbing than pictures. Have y'all read any xenofiction in your lives? Warriors with the violence? Wings of Fire with how Queen Scarlet treated Peril? Guardians of Ga'Hoole with the fucking PURE ONES? Write your cannibalism. Write your abusive relationships. Write your cults and whatever. It's fine I promise. Go have fun.

In Helluva Boss we got the Goetia lords like Stolas, Paimon, and Andrealphus, with especially the two suppose to be these greater villains with histories of plotting, acts of evil, and intimidation, one of Lucifer's personal elite who wield great power and can do acts of cruelty all casually, very evil.
Tumblr media
And then there's THIS motherfucker! This is Metal Beak, real name Surtr, and he's from the novel series, Guardians of Ga'Hoole, though I'm going to use the context from the animated movie version since even then he is an accurate and impressive version. He is the literl owl Hitler of The Pure Ones faction, a faction made up of owls with the highest and most respected ones being of the Barn Owl (Tyto) species, and his cult is centered all around of his Tyto species being the supreme and perfect species above all owls. He has a long history of leading himself and his soldiers into civilizations to plunder and burn, making their prisoners pickers, workers who get manipulated into emotionless blank zombies to do their menial tasks, the soliers who they indoctrunate by appealing to how superior as Tytos are, or killing them. He knows how to manipulate people to do his bidding, like convincing another owl who betrayed what was essentiallie's Surtr's enemy clan, that he would get his piece of lands but he let him be killed by bats instead to take it all, and most noteably Kludd, Soren's brother (Who is the main protag) who by appealing to his insecurities and telling him how supreme he is made him betray his family and wanted to offer his younger sister into becoming part of the cult within a day! He is also known to be a very patient plan when it comes to planning, like how he dealt with the afformentioned guy claiming he'd get his own piece of the lands, as well making a giant trap consisting of thousands of minescule metal fleks to build a giant magic anti-owl trap to have them get slaughtered by his bat servants, this had been taking for many years. And honestly just look at him and Stolas in his true demon form, his mask speaks history and is way more fear inducing than Stolas, a literal demon lord, could ever be, and just look at how he died, badass! There's honestly so much to tell and to better phrase that I can't give him true justice. And yes I know the style HB has is very different than what Ga'Hoole has, you got to admit, isn't if funny how an owl from a movie meant for children is much more terrifying than all the literal demon lords in HB combined?

i've been pondering so many thoughts. owl thoughts.
i think that heaven is definitely the blue brigade and the great tree is hell
god is the striga or whatever the one blue owl was. eventually god disappears and leaves the rest of heaven
the councillors take over in the chaos and stuff gets wacky from there
imo minos and sisyphus are the joint rulers of the great tree
sisyphus is in the colliering chaw, minos is perhaps navigation or something fancy like that. they're gay and in love and Ohhhh gayass kings. minos has a bit of girl power though
eventually perhaps the council goes to gabriel, who would be a blue brigade member and likely a higherup. This is so i can give him a bit of blue in his design
anyway they're like 'kill the kings or we might have to depronoun you'
so gabriel goes and kills them and takes over the great tree
and hes like Ok at being in charge. hes chilling but hes still listening to the councillors
then v1 shows up somehow (pure ones? not sure) and beats gabriel's ass so hard he develops the most embarrassing crush of all time
i'm leaning towards robot owl v1 at the moment
i will add a bit of robots to ga'hoole as a treat
perhaps before the humans disappeared they made some little robot guys
but then that leaves the pure ones bc i havent quite Figured Them Out yet
anyway gabriel has his angel of darkness amv moment and kills the whole council
not quite sure how to fit ferryman in this whole thing though ....
perhaps she lives by herself outside of all factions

Guys, GUYS!!!
What about a loosely-inspired-by Guardians of Ga'Hoole AU?
(I have read the entire series, books 1-15, read the three lore/guide books, watched the movie I don't know how many times, played the DS game, and wrote my first fanfiction because of this franchise. I saw the movie first, not gonna lie, and I actually prefer the movie, not gonna lie there either. But, just, imagine: the Tyto Owls being mutants while every other animal/creature dislikes/hates them, we have Guardian X-Men, Pure One/St. Aggie's Brotherhood, and would have most of the X-Men Evolution plot mixed with the Guardians movie, and fun words/holidays from the books! Sorry, but this has me EXCITED! Heck, I might just watch the movie again for inspiration!)
(Are any of you Ga'Hoole fans? If so, any favorite characters? Any favorite owl species? Even favorite owl facts! Like owls have ears (earholes? I guess?) that aren't symmetrical on their heads. And they yarp up pellets because their gizzard takes what they can't digest and smashes it into a little bollus that they barf up)
(Tytos come in a surprising mix of subspecies and colors!)

Random guardians of ga'hoole post that no one asked for but i need to get this out, killing off Lutta was the worst thing ever
Long and boring ramble beneath cut
1. It seems extremely.. WRONG to imply that Lutta is beyond redemption just because she's a hagsfiend?? I get that theyre beings of pure evil or something but still i feel like there was literally nothing wrong with lutta she just had a miserable childhood. Also even it that wasn't what the author had intended to deliver, the CHARACTERS still acted like that was extremely justified and the right thing to do. Yes she impersonated emerilla but SHE WAS BEING MANIPULATED HJKNHD57B SHE IS ALSO A VICTIM!!!
2. Hoole and Emerilla had NO. CHEMISTRY TOGETHER. They killed off lutta and immediately introduce this emerilla owl that hoole instantly falls in love with? What?? *angry peridot face, spontaniously bursts into a 79 hour ted talk about why hoole and emerilla becoming mates was stupid and out of nowhere*
3. She was my favorite character why did you kill my favorite character. She had so much depth and infinite possibilities as an interesting character. And it was really tragic too poor lutta
Sidenote i hate the nyra is lutta reincarnated theory. Just. No. Get that thing AWAY from me

You Have My Attention: Guardians of Ga'Hoole First Lines
Tumblr media
Ok, so despite my not being able to undersell the hold the Guardians of Ga'Hoole series had on me in seventh grade, I do have to credit Dom Noble's Lost in Adaptation video on the series and it's film adaptation for inspiring this post. I also wish I could have taken the series photo on my bookshelf, but this series in in my book tubs in Dad's basement in Alaska. All that said though, this series was one of my favorites for literal years, and I wish they were as well-known as like...Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH or Watership Down. So how did author Kathryn Lasky catch my attention as a reader? Let's look at those first lines.
The world spiraled, the needles of the old fir tree blurred against the night sky and then there was a sickening sensation as the forest floor raced toward him. Soren madly tried to beat his stubby little wings. Useless! He thought, I am dead. A dead owlet. Three weeks out of the shell and my life ends!
-- The Capture
Soren felt the blind snake shift in the deep feathers between his shoulders as he and the three other owls flew through the buffeting winds. They had been flying for hours now, and it seemed as if in the last minutes the darkness had begun to dissolve drop by drop, and they were now passing from the full black of the night into the first light of the morning.
-- The Journey
The tail of the comet slashed the dawn and in the red light of the rising sun, for a brief instant, it seemed as if the comment was bleeding across the sky.
-- The Rescue
Sparks flow off his beak as the owl, mad with rage, careened through the night sky. "I must find water! I must find water! This mask will melt my eyes. Glaux blood on my brother's gizzard!"
-- The Siege
It was the same. That was her first thought. It looks just like the old fir tree, the one where Soren and I were hatched. And even the shape of the hollow's opening where Mum and Da made their nest, a lopsided O--wasn't that the exact shape?
-- The Shattering
"Night gathers and your time has come," intoned Barran, the large Snowy Owl and monarch of the Great Ga'Hoole Tree. In some ways it seemed like only last night that he, Gylfie, Twilight, and Digger had traveled through that blinding blizzard and had arrived at the great tree. But in other ways it felt like forever. Now they perched, ready to take the most inviolable oath of their lives: They were to become at last Guardians of Ga'Hoole.
-- The Burning
"It's the hatchling," a young owl said as the group watched Nyroc, only son of the great warrior Kludd, begin a power dive. He grasped a charred branch from the ground in his beak and in one swift movement rose seamlessly again into the air brandishing it before him.
-- The Hatchling
"You are a mask. You are nothing more! There is nothing behind your mask, not a face, nothing! I shall fly in the fullness of the night. Under the moon and the stars I shall hunt the vole, the rat, even the fox. I shall become part of owlkind, no matter where I have to go. But I shall go! And I shall never return to the Pure Ones. I defy you. I HAVE FREE WILL!"
-- The Outcast
On a branch outside a hollow of the Great Ga'Hoole Tree, three owls hunched against the first blasts of an early winter gale. One was an Elf Owl, one a Great Gray, and one a Burrowing Owl. They were known collectively as the Band, but their fourth member, the Barn Owl Soren, was in the hollow of his beloved old teacher, Ezylryb. And Ezylryb was dying.
-- The First Collier
Octavia, the pudgy, elderly, blind nest-maid snake, slithered out onto the branch outside her old master's hollow. "Look. I might be blind, but I know that you've been out there all morning. Why aren't you in your hollows sleeping?"
-- The Coming of Hoole
"Nachtmagen!" The word hung in the air treacherous, insidious. "Do you really think so, Coryn?" Gylfie asked. "Do you think that nachtmagen has seeped back into our world with the ember?"
-- To Be a King
"Look at me, look at me!" the Great Gray hooted. His primaries sparked silver in the moonlight as he carved a steep turn, then folded his wings and plunged toward a cresting wave. He swooped up, barely escaping the grip of the sea as the spume trailed behind him like a comet's tail.
-- The Golden Tree
Threading though the roar of the waterfall, the scratch of a pen on parchment could be heard. Heard, that is, if there was anyone to listen except for the writer. But there wasn't.
-- River of Wind
"All right, Otulissa, how does this sound for the lead article?" Fritha, a very diligent Pygmy Owl and one of Otulissa's best students, had become the assistant editor of The Evening Hoot, a newspaper that she and Otulissa had started shorty after Coryn came to the tree.
-- Exile
The light of the low-hanging full-shine moon slipped into the cave, making it glow like a lantern of ice above that tiny gut of sea linking the Southern Kingdoms to the Northern Kingdoms.
-- The War of the Ember

Let's start this blog with fanart of my favorite character, Surtr, aka Metal Beak (movie version). I LOVE him, even if he is evil to the bone.
The mask was a nightmare to draw, but I am kind of proud how this turned out.

Random Guardians of Ga'Hoole Headcanons I Have That I May Or May Not Have Posted Here Already
Noctus and Marella suspected that Kludd was behind the disappearance of Soren and Eglantine, but they didn't do anything because 1. they were afraid of him and his friends (the Pure Ones) who stopped by whenever they were out hunting, and 2. he was still their son and they loved him and they didn't want to believe he was capable of killing his siblings.
Kludd didn't push Eglantine out of the nest like he did to Soren. A couple of Pure Ones just stopped by one day and took her straight out of the nest. Kludd told his parents and Mrs. Plithiver that she'd fallen and probably been eaten by something.
Kludd killed Noctus and Marella, or at the very least was involved in their deaths. (This might be implied canon, I don't remember.)
The rogue smith, who was also an informant for the Great Tree, who the Band found dying in The Journey, was killed by the Pure Ones because he refused to make weapons for them. (This might also be implied canon.) He was killed before he could get word to the Great Tree about the new evil rising in the owl kingdoms.
Otulissa's parents and aunt were picked off by St. Aggie's forces, who were attempting to kill as many adult owls in the region as they could, in the hopes that when they came for the owlets and eggs the nests would be nearly undefended. Fortunately Luckily for Otulissa, a Ga'Hoole patrol found her first.
Silver and Smutty are brothers.
Eglantine was haunted for the rest of her life by the events of The Shattering; the betrayal of an owl she believed to be her best friend, the lost hope that her parents were alive, her being essentially mind-controlled. She has nightmares.
Bell was haunted for the rest of her life by the events of Exile; her father's exile, the vanity cult, the book burnings, the owl burnings, the Striga - an owl who had once saved her life and who she saw as a trusted mentor - threatening to kill her, the loss of Otulissa's eye. She blames herself for all this, since she brought the Striga to the Great Tree. She also has nightmares.
Sometimes, Bell and Eglantine talk about this.
Between Exile and the War of the Ember, Coryn and Bell had a talk about owls you trust (in her case, a trusted mentor, in his case, his own mother) betraying you.
Eglantine always wanted a mate and owlets of her own (she especially wanted to name owlets after her parents) but she never found the right owl to become mates with. She compensated for this by being the best aunt ever to her nephew and nieces.
Pelli is 401-2.
Soren and Gylfie had nightmares about St. Aggie's for the rest of their lives. To their dying day, the sight of the full moon made them uneasy.
