You’ve probably answered this before but I am kind of new here so I’ll ask again: how and when did you become a fan of Rammstein?

For me it was my best friends mom, she has an entire dedicated to the band and she took us with her to see a tribute band, which was cool and all, then I got my first mp3 player and asked the mom for audio files of the cds (ripping was a possibility then) because I liked rock and metal, I had my dads old Iron Maiden, Nirvana, Roling Stones cd’s etc already on it :) Plus is German class at the same time in high school, Sonne was played as an example of German music, which was very cool. Since then I am a listener. Was unfortunately too expensive at the time to go the MIG tour, my first time was festival tour 2016! And since then I have been every time they were in the ‘area’. And when Paul announced the break this year, I felt lost because aside from 2018 and the covid years I have seen them each year and was wondering how to survive without and started looking for the online fandom! And now I am here!🖤

I mentioned my own story here and there briefly, but this asks gives me the opportunity to delve a little deeper 🙂‍↕️

Growing up as a kid in 90's and early 2000's Germany, it was almost impossible to avoid the band. Rammstein was a name that was always present, and while "Du hast" was the band's flagship song worldwide, "Engel" was THE Rammstein song that everyone in Germany knew (and still knows). I can remember hearing that song on the radio as far back as I can think.

Now things are about to get random: When I was around 11/12 years old, I was already neck deep in my fantasy/vampire phase, and I desperately wanted to watch something truly scary, like the cool kids. My mother didn’t allow me to watch horror movies, but she had another idea and showed me the video for "Du riechst so gut." I instantly fell head over heels for the song and had it on my MP3 player since I was 12 😊. However, I found the video so creepy, and as a child, I was terrified of Paul with his red eyes for ages 🫢

My third Rammstein song was "Stripped," which my father showed me. I was also introduced to the music video, kind of as an educational tool for Leni Riefenstahl, as my parents explained to me that while her film footage is very controversial due to her ideology (rightfully so), they were once considered highly aesthetic.

I saw Rammstein live for the first time in 2013 at the Southside Festival. I wasn’t a full fan yet, but I was incredibly excited to hear "Du riechst so gut" live. And I remember that all the Rammstein fans around me were incredibly kind and friendly, giving each other plenty of space to dance 😊.

Here comes another random but vital moment: I used to cosplay a lot and attend various conventions, one of them being Gamescom in Cologne. In 2015, after a particularly exhausting convention day, a friend and I came home in the evening and spent the night vegetating on the couch, clicking through YouTube, until we came across a video titled "Ich will" by Rammstein. Since I was somewhat familiar with the band by then, I was curious, so we clicked on it. And well:

That guy comes on screen and that was it for me.

Since then, Rammstein has become an inseparable part of my life. I’ve seen them live several times in 2017, 2023, and 2024, made wonderful friends through the fandom, and kind of met my husband with the help of this band (the first conversation we ever had was about Till's newly released album "Skills in Pills" in 2015 🤭)

This band has given me so much, brought me a lot of joy and distraction, pushed me to educate myself on various topics, and simply feels like a musical home for me.

Sometimes it’s not easy being a Rammstein fan (for various reasons), but I can’t imagine my life without them anymore 🤍

Summary:

Dota 2 is a free-to-play high fantasy action real-time strategy game developed and released digitally by Valve for the PC, Mac and Linux on July 9, 2013.

Built on the studio's Source engine, Dota 2 is the official sequel to Defense of the Ancients, a series of custom scenarios for the 2002 game Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos that originally popularized the "Multiplayer Online Battle Arena" sub-genre. Development of the game is led by the original mod's final lead designer, IceFrog.

Similar to the original mod, the main gameplay pits two five-player teams (the Radiant and the Dire) against each-other as they work to escort their three endless waves of AI-controlled monsters (or "creeps") to the fortified enemy base in order to destroy the enemy "Ancient". Each player controls an individual Hero character and, throughout the match, earn experience (to level up their stats and abilities) and gold (for purchasing items and equipment) by eliminating enemies.

Rather than using a weekly free-to-play character rotation system (similar to other MOBA games at the time, namely League of Legends), the game makes all characters playable from the start and features cosmetic microtransactions (such as alternate appearances for each Hero's armor and weapons, alternate announcers, and custom UI enhancements) using the Steam Inventory and Steam Market systems.

The game received numerous updates since its original release, adding new Heroes, game modes (including support for custom modes), and features while revising certain gameplay mechanics. New features include better support for both new players (with integrated community-made guide support, coaching, and improved training modes) and competitive players (with improved replay and spectator support), as well as VR headset support (for spectating and viewing cosmetics). It also received a reworked client update in June 2015 (named "Dota 2 Reborn" for a short time), porting the game to Valve's Source 2 engine (the first game released with it), and received a complete map revamp on April 2023.

Dota 2 originally received an invite-only beta in November 2011, during Gamescom 2011. It was formally launched July 9, 2013, but access was gated via a queue system until December 16, 2013. It was also distributed as a standalone game in some regions, with Perfect World publishing the game in China, and Nexon publishing the game in both Japan and South Korea. The game also received spin-offs, including the 2018 digital card game Artifact, the 2020 "auto-battler" game Dota Underlords, and the 2021 animated series Dota: Dragon's Blood.

As of April 2024, Discord has reached over 600 million users with the leading Discord gaming servers being “the community for Roblox game Blox Fruit and the one for Chinese-developed Genshin Impact, with 1.75 and 1.61 million users, respectively” (Statista, 2024).

Another major platform for the communities is Reddit. As of January 2024, Reddit has reached 1.2 billion users worldwide, making it one of the most-used platforms (Statista, 2024). The platform's daily active users surged by 47% year-over-year, reaching 97.2 million, with occasional peaks surpassing 100 million daily users in 2024 (Roth, 2024). Reddit utilizes a similar function to Discord, which allows users to create and organize posts into communities called "subreddits". The submitted content is then voted up or down ("upvoted" or "downvoted") by other members to drive engagement in communities. 

In terms of live streaming, Twitch continues to dominate this sector with its catering to gaming video content and online entertainment. The platform attracts over 240 million unique visitors each month as of November 2023 (Statista, 2023). In 2022, the number of minutes watched on Twitch reached 1.35 trillion minutes (Statista, 2023). 

Each of these platforms caters to a unique function for the gaming communities. Discord serves as a communication platform between gamers both in-game and out-of-game. Reddit remains the social hub for online discussions and information sharing for players. While Twitch serves as the platform for streaming and viewing gaming video content.

How Gaming Functions As Digital Communities

With features promoting social interaction, such as multiplayer modes, in-game chat functions, and collaborative missions, modern games have connected its player base into numerous digital communities. For instance, massively multiplayer online games (MMOs) like League of Legends or Counter Strike enable real-time cooperation and competition. Such environments encourage the formation of communities in the form of guilds, clans, or teams, fostering a sense of belonging and community among participants. In addition, to complete each game, communities are often based on expertise, in which players collaborate, share tips, and create content together. This nature of gaming has allowed digital communities to be formed between players. 

These gaming communities are further amplified through large-scale events that unite players worldwide.​ One instance is esports tournament. Events like The International, League of Legends World Championship, and Honors of King offer multi-million-dollar prize pools and attract teams from across the globe (Esports Earnings, 2025). In addition, the Global Esports Federation consists of 172 member federations, showcasing the scale of the communities (Global Esports Federation, 2025). Similarly, gaming conventions like the Game Developers Conference (GDC), Gamescom, and Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) also contribute to community growth.

The Influence of Gaming on Activism and Social Change

The role of the gaming community is more than just its entertainment purpose but also its impact on social change. One notable of this is the community's use of live-streaming platforms for philanthropic purposes. For instance, Seán McLoughlin, widely known as Jacksepticeye, has raised over 26 million dollars through his annual "Thankmas" charity livestreams, supporting various important causes (Tiltify, Crisis Text Line, 2024). Similarly, Connor Marc Colquhoun, known as CDawgVA, raised over 1.5 million dollars through his annual charity auction to support the Immune Deficiency Foundation (CDawgVA Charity Auction, 2024).

Nintendo Says It Will Reveal Switch Successor By March 2025, But Not At The Direct Next Month

Nintendo will reveal the Switch successor within the current fiscal year, which ends March 31, 2025. However, the company says there will be no mention of this successor during a Nintendo Direct it is holding in June; this Direct will instead be focused on the games coming to Switch in the second half of 2024. 

While this isn’t the first hint of a Switch successor from the company, it is the most direct and comes from the same financial results where we learned the Switch has sold an additional 1.96 million units since the last one, bringing its total up to 141.32 million. Software has reached 1.235 billion units.

“This is Furukawa, President of Nintendo,” the company’s announcement reads on X (formerly Twitter). “We will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year. It will have been over nine years since we announced the existence of Nintendo Switch back in March 2015. We will be holding a Nintendo Direct this June regarding the Nintendo Switch software lineup for the latter half of 2024, but please be aware that there will be no mention of the Nintendo Switch successor during that presentation.”

This announcement follows industry reports from earlier this year stating the Switch successor was targeting a March 2025 release date. That could still be the case given Furukawa’s reveal, but given the timeline, Nintendo could also announce the successor that month, meaning we likely wouldn’t have it in our hands until later that year. Only time will, though, but at least we now officially know that by this time next year, we’ll know what the successor to the Switch is.

O que ninguém esperaria é que este jogo não apenas marcasse um antes e um depois dentro do estúdio, mas também o primeiro passo na nova era moderna dos jogos AA. Hoje decidimos partir para uma história um tanto curiosa que sabemos que mais de um não levou em conta, como o destino de um est[udio pode dar uma volta de 180 graus ao tentar explorar novos caminhos.

2014, revelado exclusivamente para PS4, Hellblade

Em 2014, durante a Gamescom na Alemanha, a Ninja Theory revelou seu próximo projeto, uma aventura single-player focada em uma guerreira celta, aproveitando o renovado Unreal Engine 4, inicialmente, todas as informações sobre o lançamento indicavam disponíveis apenas para consoles PS4, algo isso não pareceu estranho a ninguém depois do que se viu com Heavenly Sword sendo exclusivo para PS3, deixando um precedente para a relação entre PlayStation e Ninja Theory.

Durante o início de 2015, após diversas entrevistas e novas informações sobre o título, os desenvolvedores da Ninja Theory confirmaram que Hellblade também seria lançado para PC através da loja Steam. Durante o The Game Awards do mesmo ano, a Microsoft pegoy todos de surpresa e chocou a todos no evento, sendo revelado Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II e o Xbox Series. Ninja Theory faz atualmente parte da Xbox Game Studios, com um novo orçamento da Microsoft e uma excelente relação com a Epic Games, o que os coloca como um dos melhores estúdios de referência em termos de progresso gráfico e técnico na utilização do Unreal Engine 5. Todos os seus esforços, nos últimos anos, foram direcionados para o desenvolvimento da Saga de Senua: Hellblade II, que será lançado em breve em 21 de maio de 2024.

【Final Fantasy XV】 Dawn Trailer -Japanese Version-

The Dawn Trailer, released 04 August 2015, is a trailer released at GamesCom 2015. A second, updated version of the trailer—labeled Dawn 2.0—was released on 17 September 2015 at the Tokyo Game Show.

The original Dawn Trailer takes place fifteen years before the main game. It represents the unbreakable bond that five-year-old Noctis has with his father, King Regis. Regis must face difficult decisions surrounding the growing war between Lucis, the Niflheim Empire, and the coming darkness.

CHECKING OUT THE MURDER HOTEL!

It’s very fitting to us that after seeing the first in this collection of horrifying, interactive drama survival games make its debut at Gamescom 2018 with Man of Medan, we then got to experience hands-on the final chapter in Part One of the Anthology with The Devil In Me at Gamescom 2022!

From the moment we felt the fear on deck way back when, to last week’s short stay at The Murder Hotel, we knew we’d be hooked on this range of offerings from Supermassive Games. The team of course behind 2015 horror classic ‘Until Dawn’ were never going to let any of us down when it came to choice-based terror... And true to form with the previous 3 releases in Part One, The Devil In Me ticks the boxes in eerily strong fashion.

Firstly we’d like to thank our friends at Bandai Namco Entertainment for providing us with the fast pass to play the game! We’d also like to extend an apology to the (many) disgruntled fans of the series that we walked past to get to the front of the queue. A special mention to the guy that said “yeah, you’re really sorry”... Honestly, we were!

Now that our apologies are out of the way, let us get down to the nitty gritty and tell you about our experience in-game...

If you’re familiar with The Dark Pictures titles then you need no introduction to how they play. This sounds like we’re saying “it’s just more of the same” and whilst that may be true, that is by no means a negative slant! The consistently strong pacing is unshakable, and the life or death (sometimes death or death) choices that leave you feeling genuinely responsible for a friend’s untimely demise, is as raw a feeling now as it was in 2018.

I found myself playing as Jamie, one of a group of documentary film makers that have been invited to a modern replica of H.H. Holmes’ infamous Murder Hotel. A real-life serial killer from the 1800s and a wild one at that. If you’ve seen the initial trailer for this release then you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about when I say the story feels scarily like a SAW movie! From the off I felt like I was indeed playing a game in which there are no rules, only death... And that quickly became apparent.

Wandering the abandoned halls, climbing over strewn objects, shimmying across tiny ledges and jumping gaps with nothing but a torch for guidance, all felt like a familiar yet shuddering experience. Cut-scenes playing in between my movements showed a dark figure in the shadows, watching my every decision and revealing the evil behind this whole gruesome setup... Again I revert back to my SAW link and how it felt influential in this story.

True to form, jump scares are never far away! I found myself stepping backwards in a painfully uncool manner when a mannequin in front of me was sharply pulled into a vent by chains. The headset I was wearing really played it’s role of scaring me half to death brilliantly. Nice one, headset. I’d have thrown you if you were mine.

(I wasn’t allowed to take photos in here so this is the only one I managed to get! Sorry, Bandai!)

Continuing my move through this not-so-fun house of fun, examining clues, getting separated from other characters by collapsing floors, finding keys, and shuffling bravely in the dark, all lead me to the climax of this gameplay demo. Two compressed chambers with my friends, Erin and Kate, stuck inside side-by-side... Of course, the oxygen supply began to seize. Of course, I had to choose. Sorry, Erin. It wasn’t personal. Truth be told I didn’t even mean to choose you to die. But as she spluttered, coughed her guts up and faded away in front of my eyes, she wrote a clue in her own blood on the window:

“NOT PENNY’S BOAT”

If you’re not a LOST fan then this will instead be lost on you. It’s also of course NOT what she wrote, but we won’t spoil things for you too much!

Here is a *SPOILER ALERT* however... My colleague who played at the station behind me later informed that he chose to save Kate instead. This in turn saved Erin too... I say it again... Sorry, Erin. I barely even knew you.
