Love Is Strange (2014)

George Esteban Garea

His Role: My goodness, the tenacity and dedication between these two makes me believe that true love really can be an amazing thing!

Even after everything. George losing his teaching job at a Catholic school for finally marrying his husband of nearly forty years. Everyone knew he was gay, but oh, the Bishop saw it on Facebook, so fired effective immediately. So that means they won't be able to afford their apartment.

Thankfully, Ben's family helps out by taking him in, but George has to stay with Ted and Roberto (friends) so they can remain in the same city instead of staying two hours away. They both have good reasons: George and his piano lessons, and Ben with his galleries.

It's still difficult for the two to be apart. They haven't done so, probably for all those forty years! Seeing George being overwhelmed and lonely during another wild night was so terrible that he left in the rain to go and see Ben. As soon as he gets there, he just weeps into Ben's arms and holds him tightly, apologizing. The rest of the night was adorable, I love this scene. Joey (Ben's great nephew) sleeps on the couch while the two are in the bunk beds, and just this part is funny:

Ben: George, why don't you come down here where I can hear you better?

George: It's a bunk bed.

Ben: So?

George: You told me Joey's losing his patience with you. Can you imagine if you broke his bed trying to shag your husband?

Ben: I have missed having your body next to mine too much to have it denied to me for reasons of bad engineering.

George: *chuckles* Well, don't blame me if the whole thing falls apart.

The conversation and snuggling after is such a sweet touch to it all.

One night, during one of these parties, George meets someone who reveals that he's soon moving out of the perfect apartment. It was a bit too convenient, but I just wanted the best for them.

Scarily, after Ben continues working on his current art project and decides to turn in for the day, he falls down the stairs and tears his arm. Nothing broken, thankfully. It was all just a bit of a scare. It happens.

After all of this, George and Ben go to a bar, and Ben tells a white lie to get some free drinks. It was a cheery scene, drinking and chatting. It's a time to just breathe and unwind. Sadly, their last time together. After their last moments, the last we see of Ben, we see him just go down the subways stairs. Innocuous. Until we cut to a much later date. George got the new place all set up, and Joey is there to talk about him not going to Ben's service. He died. It's possible that he fell down the subway stairs, but it's never confirmed. I get Joey's reasoning. It's the same reason I wasn't in the room when my grandma's cat was euthanized. I didn't want that to be my last impression of him, just like Joey with Ben. He gives Ben's unfinished painting to George, and they hang it up together.

The last we see of George is looking at the painting. The last thing he has of his dear Ben. I wish it didn't have to end that way, but accidents beyond our control happen to everyone every day. It's strange like that.

The Rest of the Movie: Elliott's (Ben's nephew) family was irritating to watch. But I understand, I have grandma that really peeves me off! She constantly repeats herself, complains most of the time, and I literally can't stand being around her. But I wouldn't be an outright jack-ass like Joey (Elliott's son), I mean, there's no way she'd sleep on my bed. She can sleep on the couch she doesn't mind. But goodness, this child. Getting upset by Ben painting his friend, do you think he held him at gun point? No, he asked, and if Vlad didn't want to, then he wouldn't.

Joey's there in the background with his friend, Vlad, secretly stealing French books... because they want to know French? That's worth getting in trouble for? Stealing books from school? I guess. It was strange to focus so heavily on him at the end, watching cry about Ben's passing. I mean, before that, he talked about a girl he had a crush on with Ben, but besides that, he was rude to him. Watching him go ride his skateboard into the sunset with the girl was weird.

Kate (Elliott's wife), as I said about my grandma, I relate to having to deal with someone who keeps wanting to talk to you while you're trying to do something, she's trying to work. But the difference is that he didn't ask to be temporarily homeless. You all offered your places. Her being mad at Elliott makes sense. He's rarely ever home, so Ben will talk to her.

And Mindy... I didn't like her one bit. Just don't speak up, please? Thank you.

Ted and Roberto's way of living would be fun at first, but it would turn into an absolute nightmare for me if I were in the same situation as George. Endless nights or partying and sometimes D&D sessions. Also points docked for the couple. Cops... ACAB.

agreed Maxim has tattooes. But i have this rlly cool idea that I've got detailed here for his tattoos and sigils here, which imma add more to as another buddy and I chat abt it ( @lethalwallflower go read her series)

I like the idea of Otto having some very small, very silly tattoo he got in college when drunk one night. It's shitty, and he never got another, but it was either a heart on his arm with 'mom' (Ignoring it's not there in the movie), or a simple diagram of... I don't know, an atom? just some silly science concept

Possibly controversial, however: Harding. Either he has a simple tattoo on his inner wrist that states his blood type and i kind of like the idea he's allergic to something used in the medical field but not common. but just a simple informational tattoo in case he's in an accident

Andres. Senna's name on his heart. She doesn't know about it either, bc there'd be no reason for her to. I also kind of like the idea of something like this or this on his calf or inner arm, that he got as a reward for a team one year.

Angel. (waves vaguely at him)

George Garea. I think he got something as a way to feel young before he and Ben got married, or they went and got some silly little lavender or pansy tattoo that matched and he'd look at it when he missed Ben.

The waiter from Vice. I dont know why I believe this. I have not yet watched Vice.

Everly Campbell. You don't become an art forager without getting permanent art in your skin. I'd like to think it has something to do with like... Van Gogh but Everly doesn't think deeply enough about him to get that. Probably a brutalism piece.

Pepperidge. lost a bet and got one. He needs to stop making bets.

Jimmy Styles; he and Gene got drunk. He was yelled at. Then made fun of. Then his wife got it too, then his daughters did too when they were able to as a way to keep making fun of his drunken mistake.

Rahad Jackson. Someone tattooed a dick onto his ass. He responded with giving them a drug with smth laced, depending on who it was, to either just have a bad trip or kill them. he covered it with a snake piece that went up his back. he did get high and did the entire piece in one sitting.

Now. This is a strong start oc and we're gunna ignore state of medical care but my boy ran away from everything he knew after most of his everything being taken. Tragic etc but do you see a single person he's close to other than. His 2 henchmen? How many not open trans men only got 2 friends

2. Hugh.

This is opposite Angel's reasoning. Hugh is rich, he's alone, he's very very well educated. Hugh has the breeding and the pedigree to be able to slip from female to male in a heartbeat and everyone to just not talk about it. Notes; fluff, lime, dating, grief, (nsfw) vague description, kissing, thinking about Ben, new relationship.

- George was ready to go on the dating scene, and to start looking for love, or just a gentle touch, but it proved to be challenging even if he had grieved for almost what would be 11 months for Ben.

- Tireless nights thinking about Ben and everything he’d given him, all the moments of joy and the moments they had shared. They would all flood back to him, and just the feeling of being held by him and gentle kisses in their bed, when they had one. Their relationship had been one of the strongest. More than anything George could’ve dreamed of when he was a younger man.

- After having thought about it for so long, whether he even wanted to have a relationship after everything that had unfolded, George had concluded that Ben would have very much wanted him to find love again, and allow himself to love again.

- Dating at first was quite tricky, being a man his age. But George managed to figure out and begin to understand the workings of modern dating and so was finally ready to put himself out there, at the urging of some of his friends but mostly Ben's voice in his head.

- "Come on sweetie" he'd imagine Ben say, giving him a kiss on his neck. Ben was hugging him as he sat, cheering George on, for him to find love again.  George would then reach over to grab his hand and feel the ghost of it. Those kind of imaginings always brought a tear to George's eye.

- When George was finally beginning to go steady with a man (you/y/n), he'd made it clear from the start that he'd want to take things step by step, and rather slowly. He was happy to hear that you would for when he was ready.

- George had only shared a bit of his story to you. And you made sure not to ask too many questions, since you could tell it was sensible. You felt as though you fell almost immediately for this attentive, stern and lovely man: George Garea.

- One evening after a charming date with George at the museum, George casually invited you over for some casual diner, but you knew very much the other intention of his invitation. You'd noticed it from the way George was looking at you as you were ranting away in amazement at Robero's Holy Family. George was ready for the next step.

- During intimacy, you were enamoured and overwhelmed by how slow and gentle of a lover George was. He was paced and attentive, and very fond of kissing.

- You cuddled under his white clean sheets and eventually fell asleep in each other's arms.

- The following morning you woke up with the most fluttery butterflies. George's house was such a place of comfort, love and understanding. A lovely painting of a tan man was hanging opposite the bed. And a nude sketch to its right.

- You put on one of George's robes which were hanging on these wooden hooks, and walked over to the kitchen. George was making breakfast.

- "Well, hello, sleepy head! Sorry, didn't mean to wake you." George expressed. He looked back to the pan where he was making some delicious-smelling french toast. - "I don't mind at all, George-" you said endearingly. "

- Now I don't get to miss the show."- George leaned over to kiss you, placing his lips gently on yours, eyes closed, and felt a tingling in his heart.
