Crossover Bar AU crumbs ahoy!

When the Apprentice first made the bar, she was fucking with a lot of space and time bullshit, which caught a lot of attention from interdimensional beings.

So to prevent the interruption of her first solo project, she hid the bar by making it constantly moving, it jumps between dimensions, multiverses, and timelines. You can’t quite catch something that doesn’t exist where you think it is, because now it’s not and never was. Being part Cosmic Entity is fun. It was a game of keep away that the Apprentice found hilarious.

Well, once the bar was officially ready for operation, the Reader helped her find a Desmond fresh from the good ol’ Isu electric bug zapper and shoved his unassuming ass into the bar.

So yeah, the Crossover Bar is indeed an interdimensional speakeasy. That may or may not be partially alive because of the Apprentice’s cosmic magic and Desmond being the Host, but whatever.

This morning (and now), I was chilling in my office with the heater on 77, my new "water mint and eucalyptus" candle (company bought ofc, I'm not paying for office supplies out of pocket) burning and a fresh poured cup of tea steaming up to high heaven right under my lil nose. So, in short, minding my damn business. HR stopped in to drop off my paycheck, came to a dead halt upon entering, and looked very pointedly between my three enclosure enrichment pieces before finally saying, "Be honest with me here... it's 80° in here and you're wearing a hoodie. Are you physically okay? Health wise, should I be concerned?" And I would like to say I was rightfully offended, but having had some time to reflect and think about it, he's not wrong. It's still summertime weather out there even if my office looks like it's open soup season

a work-in-progress list of things that are insanely good in germany

(because, speaking as a twice over immigrant and repeated long distance mover, gentle bitching about the food in one’s new home is natural and not particularly inappropriate, but it can easily become a habitual tic and devolve into fretfulness)

pork. a gimme. i’ll just note my unending wonder that you can get a good pork steak here. steak!

eggs. insanely fresh, local organic free range etc more common than not, they don’t need refrigeration since they don’t go through a detrimental mandatory washing process like in the us, stunning deep orange yolks, handle like the platonic ideal of an egg

cucumbers. french cucumbers or similar are default, not the fat shiny dark ones, but they’re plenty juicy. also, they have so much flavor it’s ridiculous. i expect cucumbers to be mild to the point of subtlety and look to them mostly for freshness and moisture, but these guys are pulling their weight on flavor. they’re a tidge on the soft side for me, but i am an extreme cronch preferrer (soft flaccid fancy lettuces are abominable. give me bibb, romaine or redleaf) and i concede that they have a perfectly valid texture aesthetic. anyway, cucumbers here are absolutely substantively better than cucumbers in the us, and it’s not close

berries. raspberries and blackberries are nearly always delicious here. lotto in the eastern us, tasteless and sad enough of the time to form broadly pessimistic assumptions. blueberries have been great. strawberries dirt cheap in high season and most often delicious, though attractive but bitter or bleh ones are a thing here as elsewhere. other types of berry i’m not familiar with yet exist

waldmeister. entirely new flavor on me and real damn good. the ikea here was doing waldmeister jello cups for a while that were, no joke, a revelation. in the us, a bright-green-flavored sweet is either lime or “green apple” flavor (quotation marks indicate the attenuated Baudrillardian sense: shit has never met a real apple), and green apple isn’t bad. but this is better. it’s hard to convey the weird head-opening-up, horizon-expanding quality of the specific novelty experience here

Top Five…foodstuffs?

Oooh, this is a hard one... The best way to answer this is with categories:

"Dark" flavors: dark chocolate, plums, blood oranges, cherries, kale, beets, brown bread, nearly-burnt toast, burned marshmallows, soy sauce, overdone french fries, really strong tea... But not well-done beef--give me that stuff red in the middle!

Vinegar anything: cucumber pickles, salt-and-vinegar chips (I will eat these until my mouth is sore), pickled vegetables, pickled fruit (my mom makes amazing pickled peaches), even ketchup. It's almost more of a sensation than a flavor sometimes.

Cream, especially full-fat heavy cream and whipping cream, but also half-and-half and even whole milk. Ice cream too, yes, but plain cream without sugar or flavorings or anything are almost better. Grilled fruit with lots of cream--amazing.

Salt. Salt, salt, salt. Soy sauce! Umeboshi! Potato chips! Grits! Broth! Soup! Tomatoes with salt! Flaky sea salt! Gold Diamond Kosher salt! Sea salt! Salty things, my beloved.

Crunchy foods. I wrote a lot of my master's thesis fueled by dry cereal (lots of Honeycomb cereal, which is still a favorite). Cadbury mini-eggs with their crunchy shell, M&Ms with their crunchy shell. The cone of an ice cream cone is the best. Crackers and Digestive biscuits. Frozen fruits. Freeze-dried fruits and veg. Gimme the cronch!! (lol ADHD life)
