Steve being unable to distinguish parental love from romantic feelings because he doesn’t know what it’s like to love your parents lead to him going up to Eddie one day like, “Hey, man. I don’t think we can hang out anymore because I’m in love with your uncle.”
Eddie has a blue-screen of death moment years before he’ll even learn what that is and is just like, “What?”
Steve is just like, “yeah, sorry. It sucks because I like hanging out with you and everything.”
Then he goes on to describe how Wayne makes him feel warm and safe. One time, Wayne said he was doing a good job and that he was proud of him, “And I smiled for days after that. It was crazy.”
“Right…” Eddie says slowly. “I don’t think you’re in love with my uncle…. I think you’re just experiencing what it’s like to have a good father figure.”
Steve just blinks at him, “Oh.”
Then he turns around and yells into the back of family video, “Robin! I don’t have bi thoughts, I just have bad parents!”
Robin yells back, “You have both!”

I believe Bobby is coming back from the dead because I think we deserve to live in a world where Kenneth Choi gets to act his ass off by playing a simultaneously relieved/joyous and angry/furious Chimney, who feels like he has to thank Bobby, but also scream at him until his throat is sore because it wasn't fair to make that decision! he's going to say they should have played rock, paper, scissors and Bobby will chuckle because he thinks he's joking like silly haha Chimney, but Chimney is like "no, we should have discussed it, you died and I didn't even get to say thank you. you died and I owed you a debt I didn't even know about. you let me carry that" and he has to wrestle with the guilt of knowing that Bobby would do that for him, not just theoretically, but actual concrete proof that Bobby would die to save him. which they all know on some surface level that they'd die for one another, but it feels like such a far-off concept until it isn't. but Chimney also has to deal with the gratitude because Chimney is also so incredibly thankful that he didn't die. every step of the way he wanted Ravi, Bobby, Buck, and Athena to commit crimes, because he loves his life and he wants to keep living it. he's so overjoyed that he got to go home to his wife and kid, and that comes with its own guilt because how can he be so happy to be home when Bobby DIED. does that make him a monster? that on some level he's HAPPY that Bobby did that? and now he has to FACE Bobby. so he tries to be the Before Chimney who gets people whimsical gifts, but how do you give someone balloons about choosing your life over theirs? and he spirals because he's different now and Bobby is here and he has so so much he wants to say but all of it feels contradictory and unfair and he would normally go to Bobby for advice. so he does. he goes to Bobby and he says "what would you do, if you were in my position?" and Bobby just says "whatever you need to say or feel, I understand" and that just makes Chimney even more upset because what he needs is for none of this to have ever happened. its like they all got a re-do, but kept the memories and the feelings and now he has nowhere appropriate to put them. anyway, Bobby lives and we get Chimney angst yay <3 forever and ever.

EDDIE: I need to break something. BUCK: ... EDDIE: Or get another tattoo. BUCK: ... EDDIE: Or a new girlfriend. BUCK: Why? EDDIE: To, you know, appease the mental breakdown gods.

We moved on from Buck being the one to meet Kim at the station too fast. Way too fast.
Because hey, what would you do if the dead wife or a doppelgänger dead wife of your best friend-partner-almost love of your life showed up at your place of work with brownies? Would you ignore the date you scheduled in favor of driving over to your best friend’s place to knock urgently on his back door because you’re so afraid that something is happening to him. And you know that something is happening because the doppelgänger of his dead wife just showed up to the firehouse with brownies like it was just another Monday. You think you might have to push him to talk, but it feels more like your best friend was just waiting for someone to see him, and he is just as dumbfounded as you, and maybe even as scared for himself as you are for him. So you tell him that he needs to break it off with the doppelgänger of his dead wife, but you know that it’s more complicated than that, your best friend’s feelings, even though you trust him to do the right thing and end it with her. But you’re still not through the shock of seeing the doppelgänger of your best friend’s dead wife standing in the fire station, heart beating, lungs expanding, and so you think that maybe your best friend is still in shock too, and you don’t want to push too hard at his grief-wound. So you leave it for now, and you don’t come back to it until it blows up in your face, and your best friend’s face, and his son’s face too.
So yeah, Id say that Buck probably has a lot of regrets too about the Kim situation. He’s a fixer, no matter how hard he tries, and they lost the kid both of them love more than anything over the situation. You can’t tell me that Buck hasn’t been screaming crying throwing up about it since May. Fuck that.
It doesn’t matter that we don’t get characters’ inner thoughts (usually) on this show. Buck met Kim, and he talked about it with Eddie twice. That’s crazy. That’s certifiably insane. It’s been six months. The midseason finale is tomorrow. There is no excuse for Eddie and Christopher still not speaking. This is no excuse for Buck and Eddie still never discussing Kim or at least Chris leaving. These characters are not meant to be this horrifically repressed. It is strange. It is out of character. Kim showed up for about four episodes and disappeared into the ether. I want to know what the hell is going on with this storyline.

Now that the three-episode pilot is over, I want to take a moment and talk about the storylines set up for our characters in S8E1 and how this will likely inform the rest of the season.
With a major Bobby-Athena opening, I think we’ll see their story take a soft backseat to the other characters. Bobby will be quietly working to be restored to the 118 but I don’t think it’ll dominate our screens.
This is all wild speculation and in no particular order. Please feel free to offer feedback and theories!
Story 1: Hen and Karen’s foster licence & adoption of Mara. I suspect this will be top priority for the writers, not wanting to drag out the discomfort of misplacing a child too long. My hope is that this is resolved or eased in episode 4.
Story 2: Chimney and Maddie have taken on another child and Chimney bonded with her strongly — once Mara is at home with Hen and Karen, will they have a conversation about more kids? I think this will be a later episode — post midseason.
Story 3: Eddie and Chris — how will Eddie get his son home? (I’ve already theorized it’ll be episode 5 but that’s all wild speculation.) furthermore, once Chris is home, how will Eddie ever rebuild the trust?
Story 4: Gerard in the Captain seat — how will the team cope now that Buck is the chosen one? Will that weigh on him or impact his relationship? When will the cryptkeeper be gone? I’m betting mid-season finale for this one.
Story 5: Buck’s new beau! How will this relationship progress? I think, because it was set up in the pilot, it’ll be a major recurring theme this season. We’ll likely see cuteness and strife. Oliver has said he’s excited for Episode 5 and 6 — I think episode 5 will be an Eddie/Chris dominant episode with Episode 6 being a Buck/Tommy dominant episode.
.
I just want to add that I may be a thousand miles off base here. So if you have other theories — you might be way more right than me!!

I think it is 100% in the realm of possibility that we get a confrontation between Buck and Eddie that is similar to the grocery store fight in season 3. Only this time, it’s Buck that yells at Eddie, but Eddie still lashes out and says something hurtful and cruel - that he doesn’t mean, never in a million years, but he said anyway because he knew it would hurt - and it essentially pushes Buck away.
Eddie’s in pain, and he has been for a long time. He’s going to feel backed into a corner when people point out that what he’s doing is going to hurt a lot of people, including himself. So, he’s going to panic and push people away, and he’s going self-isolate - because healing isn’t linear, and sometimes that means regressing into old habits, like, say, dealing with his problems by himself instead of asking for help, and because he probably feels guilty, and that maybe he needs to punish himself for his mistakes. Which makes we believe that it’ll lead to another Eddie breakdown, but he’ll be okay, because even when Eddie’s self-isolating and pushing his loved ones away, there is always someone who shows up, every time, without out fail. Maybe they’ll be fighting or maybe they’ll not even be on speaking terms, but Buck will, without a doubt, drop everything to run to Eddie and Chris when they need him. Of that I am sure.

Now that I’m thinking about it. Eddie has been with Aerosol for 9 ish episodes now.
He’s explicitly said he should break up with her/leave her now at least twice. Once to her face. (Jokingly but was it really?)
He goes into work early, hides at Buck’s, comes home 12 hours late because he can’t/doesn’t want to have sex with her and knows(?) she will want to have the sex with him. And he doesn’t know how to tell her no?
Asks her to move in, immediately asks her to move out.
He took his Abuela to the wedding event of the season as his plus one instead of her.
He’s technically been (emotionally) cheating / spending excessive dating time with three whole other people who are NOT her. (The husband, the boyfriend, the dead wife lookalike.) All of whom he is more attached to and/or happier with than her.
So like. Why is she even here again?? Because wow is this just embarrassing.
Eddie baby I hate her, too but just dump the poor girl already yikes. 🤣

It's 2am and I have a thought.
What if Tommy "my attention?" Kinard, knew that he wasn't Bucks one and only because he knows who Buck was truly jealous with back in Buck, Bothered and Bewildered?
What if he knows that once Buck figures it out, he won't be able to compete against Eddie "I put you in my will" Diaz.
WHAT IF he really was protecting his heart because he knows that Bucks already belongs to someone else!!??
(I might be delulu but who isn't on this god forsaken app)

Ryan said it so well that sometimes you hold onto the memories you want to when you lose someone, and Eddie has all but blocked out the fact that he and Shannon were fraught with tension and abandonment probably for longer than they were happy (they were so young when they started), all he remembers is that he loved her and that she was Christopher's mother. All he has in his head is "if we just had more time" even though if they did, they would be getting divorced, because that's what Shannon asked for before she died. But it seems like he's made that part irrelevant all this time after her death And maybe if he'd gone through a divorce instead it would be easier to move on. Because he's grieving the loss of the woman he loved, not just the relationship he had.
We don't condone cheating around here, but Eddie's never dealt with this properly, clearly. Grief rears it's head months, years, decades after something traumatic occurs and we don't always have healthy responses to it. I hope he confides in someone soon (Bobby or Buck or even Tia Pepa) so they can talk him down before he makes mistakes that do more damage to himself and his relationships.

so, the desire thing and confession... IF they do the whole confession scene right, I can absolutely see hot priest asking for specifics on what eddie and kim actually did, like confession isn't therapy, a priest when actually focused on helping you through confession will ask and will pry until you can actually name "the sin" that's causing you to need confession... so I do see a possibility of the priest digging deep enough until eddie gets to the root of the whole situation

Just gonna take a second here to wildly speculate on this new article and Eddie’s feeling isolated next season.
Option one: Eddie is caught cheating, likely by buck, who calls in Eddie’s family. This sets in motion a storyline where Chris ends up going to stay with his grandparents and buck and Eddie have a massive blow up. (We have been seeing less of Gavin recently and I’m concerned).
Option two: We get a gay Eddie story line where he kisses Buck. However Buck is in a committed relationship and he blows up on Eddie for coming between him and Tommy. Buck sees Eddie as just a friend and now everything is awkward.
Option 3 something happens at the end of the season that alters Eddie’s life. He is injured to the point where he can’t work for some extended period and is suddenly isolated from the team. (Similar to bucks leg injury).
I’m really unsure where this storyline is going with Eddie and I fully expect that it is not going to paint him in a great light. I just hope for everyone’s sake he doesn’t get someone hurt.
Take literally all of this with a grain of salt cause it will likely be some totally unrelated situation.
