17. Do you have a writing routine?

oughghgh i guess that depends on what you define as a routine? but usually i like to have some form of caffeine to drink, something on the tv in the background that i've seen a million times before/music on a playlist for the fic itself, and i am almost always on the couch (though i do occasionally move to the office in our house for Serious Writing lmaogjskdh) as for routine meaning "do you have a scheduled routine when you write" then no i write whenever the good lord decides to give me time and energy

25. What’s your favorite part of the writing process (worldbuilding, brainstorming/outlining, writing, editing, etc)?

god, i truly DO love editing so much, you would not believe how many changes there are between when i first write it and when i post it. i also LOOOOVE to write foreshadowing and reread value!!!! knowing that someone who's finished the fic will go back and realize something that happened was actually being alluded to CHAPTERS BEFORE makes me grin

What fic are you proudest of?

the true answer is [REDACTED 120K+ FIC FROM THAT ONE UNSPECIFIED FANDOM I WAS IN DURING 2017-2018] but also the kind of kid that can't let anything go from saw and pull the trigger without thinking from pacrim!

In March of last year, I had been on the library waitlist for A Marvellous Light for monnnnnths and then my hold was finally available—exactly one week after I had top surgery! AML was such a perfect, warm, beautiful thing to read while I recovered. Thank you for sending me Robin and Edwin to keep me company as I entered a new and joyful phase of my life. They’ll always have a special place in my heart for being my companions in that moment. (also as someone with an early November birthday, I’m loving these unintentional birthday gifts last year and this year—genuinely I’m 10x more excited for APU than I am for my own birthday! Hawthorn gave me Potential Fave vibes in AML and he sealed the deal in ART and I’m so ready for him and Alan to wreck me emotionally) 

Your books seem to have impeccable timing in my life, which maybe isn’t all that surprising because they’re impeccable in every other way too! Neither AML or ART has an assigned spot on my bookshelf—there wouldn’t be any point in putting them away, because of how often I pick them up, turn to a random point, and read a section or chapter just to savor it. I’ve never done this with a book before, but I love reading them out loud to myself. Your prose is so beautiful and melodic, and it’s so satisfying to read it aloud and feel the rhythm of it. There’s something so tangible and sensory-rich. I love the characters and the story with my whole heart, but god my little literary analysis brain gets an Edwin-level of joy from examining how you’re weaving such beauty with each sentence 

I can't decide which is the most affecting, lovely part of this: the fact that my books & characters can be part of such an important time in your life (congrats on the top surgery!), or the fact that you appreciate the rhythm of the prose. I am always writing with an ear to the rhythm of my paragraphs and it means so much to me when other people connect with it on that level.

wip meme: weave me a web!

This is a conman AU where Mal and Alina make a living scamming and seducing rich people. They eventually meet Aleksander Morozova, who is filthy rich, and decide to seduce him together, given his interest in them both. The con, of course, rapidly spirals out of control when they find out more about who he is and what he does, and just why exactly he's so incredibly wealthy.

Thank you so much for this! I'm so sorry it has taken me a while to get to it; I've just returned to university and am living in for the very first time! It's been a lot of fun so far, and I'm both excited and nervous for what's to come.

Anyway, here goes...

Studio Ghibli music - On Friday evening I was in London seeing Joe Hisaishi conducting the BBC Concert Orchestra playing music which he composed for the films of Hayao Miyazaki. The concert had been postponed three times due to Covid, and I was beginning to fear that it would be cancelled all together. But it finally went ahead! It was such a beautiful and emotional experience!

2. Museums and art galleries - On Saturday my friend and I had a lot of time before our train back home in the evening so we went to the V&A. I could honestly spend all day in there; the building alone is so beautiful and it houses the most incredible collection of art and artefacts. It's my dream to have an entire museum or art gallery all to myself for a day so I can wander around at my leisure (and perhaps even pick up my sketchbook for the first time in years!).

3. My new college neighbours - Because I was in London, I missed the official move-in on Saturday. When I arrived on Sunday all of the other people in my corridor had moved in and done the ice-breaker task that all new students are encouraged to do: work as a group to create signs for each door on the corridor with the occupant's name and drawings depicting their hobbies/interests/major. Today I left my room to find one stuck to my door! They had worked together to make one for me too, and had even written my name in Japanese IN THE CORRECT SCRIPT! I was really impressed as none of them are studying Japanese, and really touched that they made sure I was included.

4. Only Murders in the Building - the current show I'm watching obsessively together with my Mam. It's so upbeat and funny, the characters are terrific, and the mysteries are so well written! Next week is the series finale and I'll be so sad and forlorn!

5. My best friend - she never fails to make brighten my day. She's the best person I know and I truly don't know if I'd be around if I didn't have her. I love her dearly.

I am apparently very bad at judging what’s mundane, because even though I have a big list of things, I’m like... I have no idea if other people would consider some of these mundane?

Technically I've already experienced it, but I really wish I could go out dancing again. Unfortunately due to Current Events that's unlikely to happen.

I had to ask what it meant by an ‘on repeat’ playlist, and I have now learned it’s something Spotify does. However, I don’t tend to use those playlists so I’m just going to pick one I know I’ve been listening to a lot recently.

What I Want by MUNA (warning: video has flashing lights throughout) - I got it from @areyougonnabe‘s awesome Terror Camp 2022 playlist, and it’s just the sort of song that’s great for audio stimming. Also kind of related to the previous answer!

“Comfortable, your lordship?” Alan mocked, coat-muffled, as Jack’s cheek rested against the rough wool of his cap. 

“Hardly. I’m liable to develop a wretched crick in my neck.”
