MCU: Loki and Midgardian clothes

So, I’ve seen some fans wondering how could Loki fix Mobius’ tie since Asgardians clearly do not wear ties…

…and it made me wonder ‘is this a mistake or Loki was actually familiar with Midgardians clothes?’

So let’s start with the sources at our disposition to answer this question.

Okay, now we can start.

So, as weird as it might seem at first, the second answer, which is that Loki is familiar with Midgardian modern attires, might be the intended one, right from “Thor”.

Let’s go back to that movie.

Thor is clearly unfamiliar with present day Midgard as a whole, and so are his friends.

We’ve various moments in which Thor shows he’s unaware of present day Midgardians customs, like when he can’t realize he’s in doctors’ care and thinks they’re attacking him (in a deleted bit, when they tell him they’re trying to help him, he demands they bring him healing stones, showing he has no idea how Earth’s healing system work), or when he breaks a glass asking another believing he’s showing appreciation for the drink, or when he enters in a pet shop, demands a horse and when they tell him they’ve only dogs, cats, birds, demands one of them big enough to ride.

It doesn’t mean he never went to Midgard, in the movie there’s the implication he had been on Midgard before...

Thor: We're going to Jotunheim. Fandral: What? This isn't like a journey to Earth where you summon a little lightning and thunder, and the mortals worship you as a god. This is Jotunheim.

...and there was a cut scene in which he recognized being on Midgard and even calling it ‘Earth’.

Thor: Blue sky... one sun... This is Earth, isn't it?

And there’s another cut scene that says that yes, Sif and the Warriors Three had been on Earth… but a thousand years ago.

Volstagg: Is it just me, or does Earth look a little different to you? Sif: It has been a thousand years... Volstagg: Things change so fast here. You leave for a millennium, and it's like the whole neighborhood's gone.

Now, Loki was a babe in 965 AD and “Thor” takes place in 2011. Sif likely doesn’t mean exactly 1000 years but, what’s more, we don’t know how exactly Asgardians age in the MCU.

Does their childhood last as much as ours and then their aging process slow down so as to allow them to live 5000 years? Or their aging process is proportionately all slowed down and they remains babes for years?

I tend to think their childhood is fast and then they have a slower aging process once they reach a certain age, but anyway this is irrelevant. Even if Loki visited Midgard 1000 years before and was familiar with its customs back then, well, things, as Volstagg points out, are changed a lot.

So… where do we can get an idea if Loki is familiar with Midgard or not?

When Loki goes to see Thor, he shows up dressed up in 21st century Midgardian attire.

In “The Art of Thor” is said:

Said Craig Kyle, “Loki wants to look good, he’s a man of style… Loki actually has three looks, Thor has one.” In addition to the three costumes he wears in the otherworldy realm of Asgard, Loki also makes a brief appearance in a suit and tie. Said Tom Hiddleston, “When he turns up on Earth in the movie, [he’s] very GQ.”

(For who, like me, is not familiar with the term GQ, it is used to describe a guy who is dressed nicely, very sleek, or very sexy to the ladies, The term comes from the men's fashion magazine named GQ (=Gentlemen's Quarterly).)

They don’t really explains why Loki decided to dress up like that, but the fact he chose to is meaningful.

Loki was going to see Thor, and he only let Thor see him.

He appears in the room Thor was, presumably after waiting for a while inside it but invisible since he complains about how he thought Coulson would never leave. When Coulson is back, Loki has magically disappeared again.

People doesn’t see Loki, not even when he tries to lift up Mjolnir.

Long story short, Loki’s attire is not to disguise himself as a human among humans and walk among them unnoticed, as he just doesn’t let them see him at all, and if he were, his very fashionable outfit would likely draw more gazes than anything else (compare it with Coulson’s plain suit), especially when he tries to lift Mjolnir while all around it there are scientists dresses in scientist garbs and guards dressed in guard uniforms.

So we can see Loki didn’t need to dress as a human to see Thor, he could have very well gone there in his normal Asgardians clothes, like he does when he goes to visit Laufey...

...though he could have forsaken the armour when visiting Thor, and just show up in his normal attire.

Instead Loki picked up a stylish Midgardian outfit to go meet his brother. Be it an illusion (more likely) or real clothes, Loki knew how a fashionable 21st century Midgardian would dress and decided to dress as such even though there was no need for it. This implies a familiarity with Midgard, or at least with its dressing style, which I genuinely doubt could have been a topic of study for Asgardians... even though Odin too was familiar with Midgardians attires as, when he bans Thor to Earth, he changes his clothes into modern, ordinary, definitely not fashionable Midgardian ones.

Loki knows the secret paths between words, it can be he travelled to Midgard and, once there, grew to like the elegant style we have.

But yes, this doesn’t necessarily mean he could learn how to fix a tie, as his clothes might be an illusion.

The final bit of “Thor” is a bit of a confusing thing as it shows Loki (dressed in Asgardian clothes) invisible to other people’s eyes controlling Selvig...

...which is confirmed by “Marvel Studios: All your questions answered” which describes that scene as:

Loki controls Selvig as he examines the Tesseract.

If Loki had controlled Selvig for an extensive period he might have learnt to tie ties as Selvig wears one.

However, although this scene was created and directed by Joss Whedon, this scene is kind of forgotten when “The Avengers” rolls around.

In it Selvig is free from Loki’s control until Loki uses the sceptre with the mind stone to turn him into his servant.

Now… “The Avengers”.

The story starts by night, with Loki arriving in the S.H.I.E.L.D. research center in which Selvig is studying the Tesseract.

Natasha Romanov, Bruce Banner, Steve Roger and Tony Stark are all warned during night. It’s possible it’s the same night, maybe it’s the night after.

It’s full day when Steve Roger travels with Coulson. The following scene shows Loki remembering his talk with the Other and then we’ve Steve reaching the Helicarrier and meeting up with Natasha and Bruce.

Then Loki shows up at Stuttgart Museum again dressed up in 21st Century attire with his sceptre disguised as a cane. This time Loki is sort of disguising himself, as he’s actually planning to draw attention on himself but, at first, in a subtle manner so it makes sense he dressed up as a Midgardian to move among Midgardians so as not to alert common people but end up being tracked by SHIELD because they can see him on monitors and recognize him… something they wouldn’t be able to do had he been invisible.

Loki drops his disguise only later, after he has sent a holographic image of Dr. Heinrich Schafer’s eye to Barton. He confront with Steve and Tony and vanish his armour… remaining in Asgardian clothes. He’s short after taken by Thor, who then argues with Steve and Tony until Thor decides to get along with them and Loki is carried on the Helicarrier all in the same night.

Natasha takes care to inform us Loki killed 80 people in 2 days. This should mean Loki is on Midgard by two days.

Why all this is relevant?

Again Loki dressed up as a stylish Midgardian,

...his clothes similar to the ones he had in “Thor” yet vaguely different (in “Thor” the coat is green, in “The Avengers” black and the scarf motive is slightly different) and even knew that, in order to disguise the sceptre, he can’t mask it as, let’s say, a pitchfork but a cane. It’s true, since he’s been on Earth by 2 days, this time he could have gotten that knowledge by Barton or Selvig.

“The art of The Avengers” again doesn’t tell us much apart that:

“Joss and Kevin both wanted a different look for Loki in The Avengers, in part for the fans and in part to serve the story,” Visual Development Supervisor Charlie Wen said.” For Loki, his costumes evolved from the super-clean look of the Asgard from Thor to a much grittier and more lived-in look to show the changes he’s gone through since then.” “For Thor and Loki, much of our inspiration came from Jack Kirby’s original character designs,” Wen said. “Loki represent mischief. He is a cultured traveller.”

But, if we put clothes aside, Loki is also aware of how:

Loki: The humans slaughter each other in droves, while you idly threat. I mean to rule them. And why should I not?

It’s something Thor didn’t seem to know/realize.

This seems to imply Loki knows about Earth’s history or, at least, of its present situation. Yes, he might have had a crash course in history of Earth courtesy by Clint or Selvig, but he might have also learnt it by himself in trips on Earth since Odin didn’t seem interested in Earth beyond protecting it from some attacks from creatures from other realms (he helps against the Frost Giants, however he doesn’t seem aware of the Skrulls and Krees walking on its surface nor he cares to check what humans do with the Tesseract doing nothing when Red Skull uses it to produce weapons) so he might not have bothered having his son learning about Midgard’s history and situation.

The last time we see Loki dressed as a human is in “Thor: Ragnarok”.

In it his clothes are much more simple than usual as he only wears a black suit, no scarf, no coat.

In “The Art of Thor: Ragnarok” there’s actually not one but 2 arts for more elaborate suits with coat but they were clearly discharged as Loki never wears them in the movie.

“Thor: Ragnarok The Junior novel” which is based on an earlier script says:

They were dressed in regular Earth street wear – shirt and slacks – and Thor carried an umbrella. His hair was swept back into a ponytail. Loki’s magic was projecting an illusion onto the duo.

...which seems to imply the scriptwriter originally didn’t even think dressing Loki stylish… and anyway mostly focused on Thor... so it’s possible Loki’s attire in the movie is a compromise between the scriptwriter, who though to dress Loki in shirt and slacks, and "Thor: Ragnarok” Visual Development Supervisor Andy Park who wanted to put him in an elegant and stylish suit as the other Visual Development Supervisors had done.

Still, the scriptwriter too thinks Loki is aware of how, if Thor wants to keep an object in his hands, it has to look like something ordinary and how an umbrella can fit the bill. As it didn’t rain during Loki’s short permanence on Earth, the fact he knows umbrellas exist and is acceptable to carry them around seems to imply Loki has an idea of how Earth works.

So all this to say… yes, Loki might be more familiar with Earth than it looked like and he might have learnt how to make a tie or, at least, how to fix it since this is more what he seems to do in that scene in “Marvel Studios' Loki | Official Trailer | Disney+”

We can only wait and see if “Loki” will give us more explanations about this scene or it will just toss it in and not bother to explain it at all.

Meanwhile I’ll have fun thinking before things went wrong Loki used to come on Earth and look up on fashion magazines and love the idea of how good he would look in such clothes that he began to dress up according to Midgard fashion style each time he got to set a feet on it.

Actually, that last one was a really good question, so: for TLC Golds, how would you rate fanfic getting them right? I'm curious!

I don’t read as much TLC fanfics, mostly because a lot of them are pairing-based and those pairings are not my cup of tea, by I did read enough to have a couple opinions. Maybe not as thorough and complete as the one for the classic Golds, so excuse me if I’ll miss some characters. Also, same disclaimer: I might have read different stuff from other people. My opinion could sound wrong to you if you read something I didn’t and viceversa. With some of them I’m not familiar enough with the canon version at this point in time to have a 100% good answer. I forgot at least half the manga because art history replaced all my knowledge, and I have no free time to read it again.

Shion 7/10 I mostly saw good depictions of him, with a fairly good respect for his canon characteristics. Though, some stuff was... questionable. I won’t go into details, because this particular post has to stay sfw, but there’s some things out there were Shion is definitely not in character. Plus, I’ve seen him depicted with a somewhat dull personality more than once, and people apparently (even if it’s a running joke) like to think he’s not as skinny as he actually is. It’d be totally fine either way, obviously, but it conflicts so much that it automatically triggers me. You ever looked at a bulky armor, guys?

Alebaran/Rasgado ?/10 I never read actual fan fiction with him as a character, other than one that was basically just comedy and no character accuracy. So I can’t have an opinion on him. I have a couple posts to use as reference, but they’re not enough to pinpoint what people do with him.

Aspros 10/10 This score is mostly due to the fact that I’ve only read a couple works with him in them. And he was perfect, really to close to his canon counterpart. Since I’ve nothing to expose, I’ll move on.

Defteros ?/10 Same as Aldebaran, I never read a proper fan fiction, just posts here and there tackling him. I don’t even know if my representation of him is actually good or not, I am not familiar with Defteros enough at this particular time.

Manigoldo 10/10 Never seen a bad representation of him in fan fiction. Then again, this man is not that difficult to get right, once you understand his mentality. Bonus for him actually flirting during a battle, pretty sure writers have a blast with this Saint.

Regulus ?/10 The only fan fiction I read with him properly in it was pure comedy. I have no idea how people depict him outside canon, unfortunately. He’s never been one of my go-to characters when searching for stuff to read, so I have almost nothing to use as a comparison. I read some other works, but he was mainly a secondary character with the task of being adorable, so I don’t know.

Asmita 10/10 I only read one single work with him as the protagonist, and it was good. So damn good. I don’t remember the title or where I read it, or I would have definitely linked it to you all. So... kind of a biased score, but it’s all I have. The rest is just random posts, and he’s cool in those as well, so I guess Asmita got lucky.

Dohko Same as the previous, is literally impossible to get him wrong, unless you’re doing something purposefully ooc.

Kardia 10/10 I love every single work I’ve read with Kardia in it. It’s always spot on. His personality is not that easy to handle, being who he is, but so far I’ve only seen good depictions of him, as close to his canon behavior as they can possibly be. Honestly speaking, I almost exclusively read fan fictions with him and Degel as a couple, but still! Those authors never betrayed Kardia. Good job, everybody. The one and only complain I have is the depiction of him that one artist has (not going to say the name, I’m not a snitch and their art is still pretty darn good), but since it’s such a little drop in the ocean I’ll completely let it slide. For now.

Sisyphus 5/10 They either get him right, or he’s the way too overprotective uncle with one too many issues to deal with. I get it, you people want Sisyphus to care for Regulus, but don’t you think that making him act exactly like my mother is a bit much? I’ve seen some very impressive depictions of him, some works where his personality was absolutely amazing, but others... eh, I still wish I didn’t read them.

El Cid 8/10 Most of the time he’s perfect. People nailed his personality and behavior, it’s so close to the canon version that the whole thing is actually scary. But, sometimes, authors tend to exaggerate his traits too much, and then the story becomes unpleasant to read. Perfectionism can be dangerous if not used in the right amount, after all.

Degel 9/10 As far as I’m aware, and I’m only aware of works with him and Kardia as a couple (I’m hopeless, I know), he’s pretty good. His personality is not easy to grasp, and I’ve seen people making him too stuck up or too obsessed with his god-forsaken library, but if you get it right... well, you get it right. And it’s beautiful.

Albafica ?/10 I’m unsure about him. I grasped his whole character myself, because I stuck my head so far into the lore I’m actually still unable to get it out, but even with this I’m not sure how to relate with Albafica in fiction. There’s so many versions of is personality and a lot of them seem good, while at the same time some of those feel weird. To me, obviously, not in general. The fact I mostly read stuff with him in different pairings doesn’t help the confusion I have in my head, because it’s a different behavior with every person. I think that most authors are able to fully understand him, and they wrote Alba with justice for him in mind, but I’m so unsure I don’t feel like giving him a score.

Benny x Ethan Idol AU

it was sometime in the afternoon I was in a hotel one of the 5 star ones that have a pool on the balcony. i was chilling out just kind of laying on the ground next to the pool listening to a podcast a old paranormal case some were in Mexico. my love for the paranormal never went away even after my song blew up back when I was 13. the day i left my grandma back in New York to travel with my agent was the day i left my true self. and now I'm some kind of teenage heart-throb. Benny the biggest music artist since Harry Styles.

“Boss?” i looked over to see Erica holding a clip bored and some papers. “How many times must i say this. Call me Benny or Ben.” she looked flustered “Ah yes sorry si- Benny.” she looked like she was fumbling with her phone “what’s up? is it another Fan meet and greet?” she scrolled on her phone for a second before answering:

“something like that.. See a old friend of mine from another side of state reached out to me about a artist she knows. the artist goes by ‘Morgan’ and they are a realistic abstract artist. They are apparently a fan of your music and she was asking me if you had a plan for your next album cover.” i looked at Erica as if i was unsure of what to think. “well can i see this artists work???” She searched through her phone once again pulling up a painting of a boy with blond hair. the painting was huge and had a abstract feel as it was covered in bright colors almost splattered all over the canvas. “I- i love it i would love to meet this artist!”

Erica beamed “oh thank god you said yes because if you didn't i would have to have brought up the fact that there was a lot of different paranormal experiences in the town they live in.” i looked at her with a spark in my eye. “WAIT DO THEY LIVE IN WHITE CHAPLE!?!?!” Erica smiled “yes they do” i felt the smile grow on my face.

the town of White Chapple is a huge paranormal hot spot that only a few paranormal investigators dare to go. there are mentions of werewolves, undead animals, odd sicknesses, grave robbers, living dolls made of plastic, and the thing that the town is truly known for Vampires. i almost couldn't contain my excitement. “you will have to stay in the only hotel there unless your willing to stay with my friend and me.” i looked at Erica and gave her a smile “that's ok! do you have the artists number? “I can ask Sarah if she has there number.”

a few hours after I talked to Erica about the artist i got a text attached to a number. with the message attached to said “this is Morgan's number they know who you are and apparently they promised Sarah they wouldn't completely freak out.” I smiled at the text and added the number to my contacts before heading to bed.

i rolled out of the huge bed. it was way to big for just me. it actually kind of made me feel alone. i stood up rubbing my eyes as i looked at my phone. a text from “Morgan” i looked at my phone.

Morgan: So is this the real thing or is Sarah trying troll me to make me cry again?

Benny: No this is the real thing Haha.. how often dose she do that?

i replied like a hour later and i kind of felt bad but i got text back actually really fast as if They were just looking at there phone this whole time. Erica did say that they were a fan.

Morgan: Way to often.

Benny: Well yes it is really me! and i absolutely love your artwork its absolutely stunning.

Morgan: gdjkskbgjdsg THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

I don't know why this reaction made me so happy it was just adorable... i found myself really wanting to get to know this person. maybe i just haven't found very many real people in my life or maybe there was just something pulling me toward this one person.

days went by and we were talking non stop over text. they have a little sister that is a big inspiration to the different flowers present in there art work. other then my music they listen to a lot of punk rock and some softer music. they were real and i felt like i had known them for ever.

i let myself smile and walk onto stage for my last show in this city. I've done this show over 100 times at this point but this one seemed so incredibly long and when i finally got of the stage the first thing i wanted to do was call Morgan. this was our first time on a face time call infact this was my first time seeing there face. for a split second i thought of what they might look like. i didn't settle on anything as to not get my hopes up. and as soon as i walked into my hotel room i wiped out my phone and texted them.

Benny: ok i can call right now i just got out of my show.

Morgan: oh yeah ok give me a second!

i gave it a few mins and then i saw my phone ring. my heart skipped a beat as i saw the face time call show up on my phone screen i almost felt like a little kid who just got a new game for no reason at all. and when i answered the phone i was greeted with soft brown eyes and a extremely handsome smile. “its you its really you!” his voice was soft and sounded almost loving. “Yeah I'm the real thing silly”

he seemed stunned to be talking to me and Honestly there have been a lot of times that i forgot i was some kind of star myself. we talked all night and made a plan about when i come to stay. it was gonna be a bit of a vacation for me and he was gonna let me stay in his apartment with his sister so i wouldn't have to stay in the shit hotel. he told me his full name was Ethan Morgan and uses his last name as his artist name. he told me about his plans for his life and a big dream that he has always had.

we shared interests in the paranormal and he happed to know his fair share of vampire facts. we are both huge dorks at heart and it was a instant connection that we had. and the days leading up to meeting him felt like years.

when the day came that we jumped on the road Erica seemed so much happier then normal. “Thank you so much Ben! its been so long since I've seen her” Erica smiled all big at me in a dorky kind of way and i smiled back Ethan taking over my thoughts. I wasn’t even thinking about how hungry I was or how long the drive will be. After about a hour on the road we stopped at a truck stop. i of cores could not leave the car for the god forsaken fam that had been place apon my head like a crown years ago.

i feel asleep in the car and woke up to Erica shaking me awake. we had just entered the town of white chapel. it was underwhelming as Ethan said it would be. But i tell you what it was cute unlike a lot of the big city's that i had been in before.

we went to meet Ethan and Sahara at the small coffee shop that i think just happened to be the only one in the town. We sat down and i was shaking i think Erica could tell because she taped my shoulder when the small boy walked in. this was no fan meet and great, he made me way to happy.

i stood up and darted across the room to take the smaller boy into my arms. my heart pounding out of my chest when the small painter wrapped his arms around me. at that moment i felt somethin.. it was a feeling of being complete even if it was just for a second i could tell that it was warm and it felt safe... i felt safe with him in my arms.

i pulled away from the hug i truly never wanted it to end. his hand rested on my hips and my arms rested on his shoulders. Time truly did stop at that moment. I looked into his eyes and I saw my happiness. I saw the other half that I have been missing for my entire life.

And I think he saw the same thing. Because the soon soon as I pulled away from that hug I naturally started to lean in. It was not expected to me and I don’t think it was expected to him. But for a moment we shared a kiss one that truly completed me. And I don’t understand why.

This is the final version of my discussed Tiamat Fan Servant Idea. As such, several skills may be differently that previously imagined. Under a read more for length.

Alignment: True Neutral (Returned to as she was pre-Beasthood through the events that led to her Foreigner Class, she now exists simply to create and mother. She fights for Chaldea simply because you fight things that would prevent her from doing that. Though that said, by Bond 5 she’s enamored with you and Chaldea as some of the best of her “descendants”)

Attribute: Beast (Tiamat was always meant to be a Beast, Shub-Niggurath’s power won’t change that.)

Star Absorption: 140 (Low for a Foreigner, to partially help others use them, but Arts crits certainly help her spam her NP so she still has a pretty decent Star Absorb rate)

NP Charge DEF: 4% (Same as Kiara, another Beast turned Playable, and Kingprotea, her technically Moon Cell descendant)

Traits: Divine, Dragon, Large, Threat To Humanity, Weak to Enuma Elish. (Dragon and Large are still there even though she’s in her Femme Fatale form because A: If Summer BB can have the Large trait so can Tiamat, and B: Dragons are cool.)

Active Skills:

Independent Manifestation (Eldritch) B+: Remove all buffs from all enemies, remove all buffs and debuffs from the party except Tiamat, remove all debuffs from self. For every buff removed from allies apply an ATK Up Buff to all allies (20% per buff removed at Level 10) for 3 turns, for every debuff removed restore HP (1000 per debuff at Level 10) to all allies. 5 turn cooldown at Level 10.

Black Star’s Eyes A: Chance (125% base chance at Level 10) to apply random debuffs to the enemy when attacking for 3 turns (Apply one debuff per hit, random debuffs are as follows: ATK Down (-5%), DEF Down (-5%), Debuff Resistance Down (-10%), Quick Down (-5%), Arts Down (-5%), Buster Down (-5%), Poison (-250 HP per turn), Curse (-250 HP per turn), NP Damage Down (-15%), Critical Chance Down (10%), Critical Damage Down (10%). Debuffs last 5 turns). 5 turn cooldown at Level 10.

Sea of Mother’s Milk EX: Charges all allies NP gauge (120% at Level 10), Applies a NP Damage Up buff that cannot be removed once applied (it can be blocked however, +50% at Level 10) for 1 turn, 75% chance to apply Buster Up, Quick Up, and/or Arts Up (+120% each at Level 10, each buff’s chance calculated individually) to all allies for 3 turns, 25% chance to instead apply Buster Down, Quick Down, and/or Arts Down (99% each, only two can be a debuff (i.e. if Buster Down and Quick Down are applied, Arts Up must be applied) for 3 turns.) 7 turn cooldown at Level 10.

Passive Skills

Core of the Foreign Mother Goddess EX: Increases Debuff Resistance by 35%, increases all damage by 350, grants 3 Critical Stars per turn. (Normally this should be two skills, Core of the Goddess EX and Entity of the Outer Realm EX, but Shub-Nigguraths power synchronizes so well with Tiamats (that is, they are both Mother Goddesses) that the skills have not only fused, but had their effects enhanced)

Unlimited Mana Supply (Sea) B: Increase all allies NP gauge by 4% each turn. (Tiamat can make the Sea of Life surge to give energy even outside her Foreigner Form, but with Shub-Niggurath’s power as a Foreigner, mana flows out of the Sea and is easily absorbed.)

Territory Creation (False) D+: Increase own Arts performance by 5%. (Tiamat is using her Sea of Life to simulate the effects of Territory Creation)

BB: Hm? That A.I., from a realm not our own. Does she believe we will let her continue to act as a nuisance? No. Creation of our children or not, we disown her. As she is no longer family, we expect proper respect shown towards us and Humanity proper next the sun arrives. Failure on her part shall be... unpleasant.

Minamoto-No-Raikou: Ah, we meet another mother! It is a joy to know her! ...Hm. Her personality and overbearing nature... Was that me in that forsaken time...? No. What is done is done. We cannot change that.

Hmm, here are a few questions I can think of: (1) What's your favorite attraction in YTTD? (2) Do you have any songs you associate with the game? (3) Are there any games/media you also love and want to recommend at all?

JIOQSUWIO sorry this took a while to get through. NaNo has me in my homestretch ( i have 500 left to go at this point so aaaa)

1) My first ever favourite attraction was probably memory dance, but I also like the card game. I find one incredibly hard and it had me reeling for two god forsaken hours the first time I played. I can now do it on my first try normally with Reko and the easy ticket so it has grown on me. The card game on the other hand is just strategy strategy strategy and its always a struggle that I always pull through so it makes me feel accomplished lmao.

2: Two birds and Honey I’m home both spring to mind as having heavy YTTD vibes lyric wise.

Two birds because well, Sou and Shin, just Shin, Sara and Joe, Sara and Keiji? Sara and Ranmaru? The dummies on a whole. I feel it.

Honey I’m home is a lot weirder lmao, it’s actually about religion? I think Sara could easily be Norman, the floormasters God and Charon Keiji? The Father as ASUNARO. The moth Shin. Taking away the religious plot I can visualise it. The floormasters having Shin all wrapped up, Sara being forced into by ASUNARO with the promise of something better only for it all to be a lie (assuming winning the death game is a good thing, Sara obviously doesnt know ehueuif). Keiji helping Sara while imo he’s probably betraying her to survive and eventually win.

Also the line : So with advice of the dead, and a halo over my head, At last honey I’m home, three voices come all alone

And I like Elsa with her hair down and all, but I would like to see Helsa is some Arandelle-ish attires (btw, I love the Green coat you drew for Hans before). I'm feeling like breaking down this nice message. So if I may:

Some melancholic, sad, even brutal ideas have popped up in my head when thinking about things to draw. But I rather work on the happy stuff for these two. They went through so much in life and the fans of this ship, the ship itself, and Hans get so much unnecessary and undeserving cr*p that I definitely want to put a stop to all that (even if for a little while) with my happy Helsa fan art. That’s one of my goals and reasons to draw what I draw.

When you say you want Helsa in some Arandelle-ish attires I have some questions. I can draw something like that for Hans. I still have to draw my concept or reference sheets for Hans’ outfits in Frozen 2 and two or three of those are Arendelle style (if you want to count sleepwear. Also glad you love the green coat. That would be Hans’ travel outfit and yes; it’s one of the Arendelle style outfits) But what do you want for Elsa? I always have trouble with her hair down and ice dresses. I don’t know if it looks like I pull it off well or not in my pictures but it’s not the easiest for me to draw her magic clothes lol If I were to draw Elsa for this request, do you want me to draw Elsa with her hair in a braid, a ponytail, down? And what kind of clothes do you want me to draw for her? Normal clothes or ice? What am I getting myself into? I have zero knowledge in fashion XD I can’t believe I’m actually willing to take a request! Long ago I said I wouldn’t take those anymore lol But I guess this is because your request sounds very reasonable to me.

I do think Elsa doesn’t belong in the EF. I don’t care the excuses some make about the tribe being Elsa’s mother’s people or whatever. They are still strangers. I have relatives from Spain and that doesn’t mean I’d be ok with moving over there with a bunch of people I don’t know and to a place I’m not familiar with. I have a life and family where I am. And so does Elsa in Arendelle.

And if that’s the excuse some want to use, guess what? Anna should go live there as well then. It’s her mother too. And much like I’ve said before, if they wanted to have the sisters separated (which sucks for this franchise) and have one live in the forest, Anna made the most sense since she’s the one that wanted to meet strangers, get out, has a committed partner that also has lived outdoors, and is a reindeer fanatic much like the Northuldra XD Anna and Kristoff would fit right in instead of Elsa lol And don’t get me wrong, Anna can make a good Queen? Maybe. But I don’t see being married to Queen Anna as the best life for Kristoff. I feel like in order to stay with her Kristoff would put himself through anything, even royal life. Which it doesn't sound like a bad thing per se. But Anna is not the only one that matters in the relationship, or does she? I guess Anna and Elsa’s mother did the same when she married their father. But it looks like she had no other options and I don’t care about those two anyway. However, is that really a good thing for Kristoff? He can’t spend more than an hour in formal clothes and I presume things will be demanded from him now that he is the Queen’s fiance and has literally nothing to offer to a kingdom. Disney really didn't think this sequel and all their nonsense through...

I think is clear no one in this movie is doing things they want to do but things they have to or were told or taught by someone else to do. Anna becomes Queen because Elsa said so and in consequence Kristoff is bound to a life style that might not agree with his characteristics. There’s no evidence that this is what neither Anna nor Kristoff want, they just roll with it because the movie says so. This is your life now so deal with it. Elsa was born to be Queen and her father thrust her with nothing but bad advice and is one of the catalysts for Elsa’s disorders. We don’t know if she ever had problems with being Queen. Her problems came from not controlling her powers because of the fear of hurting others. Nothing of which has to do with her not being happy in Aredelle or not being comfortable with her role as Queen. That’s the life she knew all her life. Some may want a different life after some time if they’re not happy with it, but if that were the case for every royal in the world, then there wouldn’t be Queen of England or Kings and Queens of Spain, and other countries that still live under monarchies. The people who made Frozen have zero respect for the role of a monarch. If Elsa wants to take some time off (which she deserves) she can count with advisors and even her sister. Anna as Princess should hold some responsibility as well and help her sister. But the title of Queen isn’t something that sisters should be throwing onto each other as if playing a game of hot potato. The reign over a country or community is something serious, is important, and those behind these movies are taking it as a joke or nothing but a babysitter job. And on top of all this Elsa now has to deal with being a “fifth spirit” (whatever that entails) because her DEAD mother basically says so...

If Elsa wants to visit the Northuldra to get acquaintance with her mother’s birth culture, that’s cool. Also is fine to some extend if she wants to spend some time over there to atone for the crimes committed by her grandfather. But Anna should go through that stuff as well. It’s her freaking family and legacy too, damn it. And this is something I believe the entire fandom is taking for granted or ignoring altogether. But leaving her life in Arendelle to go live in the forest? Yeah, that’s not the answer to anything.

Now going back to my fan art. I only depict Helsa in the "wild and free" life style because that’s what Frozen 2 gave me to work with. And this is also my way to cope with this forsaken sequel. But I have alternate universes of my own invention to allow myself the exploration of several different outcomes. Some include:

Creating Good Childhood Memories AU. Hans met Elsa and Anna as kids. In this one Elsa and Anna’s parents aren’t a$$holes and everyone in the royal family of Arendelle welcomes Hans with open arms. The boy lives an awful life in the Southern Isles but deals with it a little better because now he is friends with the Arendelle Princesses; he goes to visit and spend time with them often. In their early teens Elsa and Hans develop a crush on each other (Anna roots for them but won’t help doing some occasional teasing embarrassing the awkward pair) that evolves into their late teen years with Hans asking the Arendelle King and Queen for their blessing to court Elsa.

Aunt Elsa and Uncle Hans AU. In this one Frozen 2 doesn’t happen. Elsa keeps being Queen (and is happy that way), Hans is her consort and they live happily balancing the duty of governing over Arendelle and spoiling Anna and Kristoff’s kids (courtesy of frozenmusings) The kids spoil them as much in return since they love them as a second set of parents as well.

Into the Unknown AU. One I haven’t put much thought into and is my excuse for playing more with a fantasy theme. I came up with it a couple of days ago. Elsa and Hans stay for some time with the Northuldra little by little getting comfortable with an outdoors life style and they get deeply in touch with nature; Elsa’s specialize in the elemental spirits while Hans thrives with animal life and living from the earth. In this AU they leave the tribe to establish their “home base” in Ahtohallan. They have evolved into something different and kind of leave the mundane life behind. Maybe they are true mythic figures.

I just want you to know that I support you in whatever you decide to do. You need to take care of yourself and cope with the troubles that come your way. I understand anxiety. I can appreciate what you are going through. I hope you will be able to find the courage and methods you need in order to whip that anxiety into its place. You deserve a lot more positivity. It really is the worst thing in the world to enjoy something so much, and then have it stripped away due to negativity. Back when I was first in the fandom during 2011 it was wonderful, I remember thinking back then it was the best thing I ever did for myself by coming out as a ZADR fan. I was a bit late to the show but I actually got into it after seeing ‘The Frycook What Came From All That Mess’ on Nick one night after being recommended to watch it. But then slowly over the year I started getting a lot of hateful comments. I actually put a bunch of them together recently and screenshotted it to show other friends. I got people telling me my designs were weird, or my art was just outright gross. People weren’t afraid to be terrible. I remember one particular person - GPleader - called me a retard because I didn’t support the idea of OC’s and they had told me people that shipped ZADR/ZATR/ZAGR ruined the spirit of the fandom. Another individual called Kitsunexen actually posted hate art about me because I didn’t want to be critiqued on my work, telling me to grow up and another user also bitched about me on facebook repeatedly, saying they hated me and mocking me about not wanting critique on my work and people stealing my art. I’d never spoken to these people other than just brief comments where they had actually complimented me on my work! So many people were two-faced like this. There was also one individual that was extremely popular in the fandom that sent white knights after me after a minor spat that was resolved. I had people threaten me on my front page after she called me a bitch in her journal well after it was resolved. Sometimes I see that users work on here and it brings those memories back because people don’t know what that person is really like. I even had people steal my artwork numerous times and block me or called me derogatory terms when called out on it or asked to remove it. Amazingly enough, even at DoomCON this treatment continued. I remember standing with my two friends talking, and one girl actually had the nerve to fully turn her back into my face to talk to them, pushing me back. Despite travelling out from Australia alone, I’d felt so down after that and actually just wanted to leave. My friends felt down as well after it. Thankfully, it picked up later in the day in the best way possible.I got so many insults/flames and nastiness directed towards me from the fandom back then to the point I was forced to leave. I got so fed up that I started snapping back at people in anger. People just ruined both the show and fandom for me. I’d had enough of feeling like shit for simply sharing my ideas and artwork. And even though now my experience mostly been positive since returning, I’ve had a few antis to deal with. One idiot called me a pedophile for drawing adult Zim and Dib. Thankfully I’m much more resilient than I was before, so I can shut these people down without being hurt, but it’s just been the non-stop harassment and doxxing I’ve seen that has at this point, just made me want to quit again even after all these years.I love the ZADR community so much and I’m sick to death of seeing innocent people being targeted and having their accounts removed. I’ve seen people decline from it and want nothing more to do with the fandom. I’ve seen how bad it’s got for some people, especially recapkid for example, and it’s getting to that point for me as well. My good friend even left the fandom due to bullying/harassment and is sick to death of the show itself thanks to that. I’m fortunate that I’ve been able to get help and have been able to start taking on my anxiety through the help of my psychologist over 2019 - but seeing how nasty people in this fandom can be, and even worse now than it was before with these god forsaken purists (the ones that wish death upon zadr fans), has led to the fandom being a source of stress and negativity yet again. I am grateful for the support I have got from people since reconnecting with the fandom. Like I met apocalypticwaffles who has been an amazing friend over last year and a reason to reconsider staying in the fandom. The positivity from other ZADR fans has been what has kept me here and the only reason I would consider staying. And as I mentioned, I really do hope the spark comes back to me because Zim has been such a huge part of my life for such a long time. I have so many good memories associated with it I don’t want to let go of. I don’t want to be pushed away again thanks to people that just can’t be decent human beings.I just want to be able to be happy online. It’s a safe space for me to be here because even though I have close friends outside of internet life, I rarely get to see them because of how far away they live. I love being part of a community that so deeply resonates with each other. I hate feeling scared to be able to post because of fear of being mass reported for doing literally nothing wrong except enjoying a ship that makes me happy. The Kickstarter for They Came From Beyond the Grave! finished up last week with a massive surge of pledges in the last three days. This enabled us to achieve several more Stretch Goals than we expected, which is definitely the best way to end up with a Kickstarter!

Thanks to everyone who backed and spread the word about the project!

Looking at the number of backers, in addition to the pledge amount, we are absolutely thrilled to see that this second game in the series surpassed our first game, They Came From Beneath the Sea!. We kind of thought going in that the subject matter might line up with the interests of large portions of our community, so if that’s why TCFBtG! did so well, that works for us!

It certainly looks like a third game in the series might come moseying down the trail…

But before we get to that new game, whatever it is, and its inevitable Kickstarter, here’s a reminder that next week on Thursday the 3rd we are starting the Kickstarter for Scion: Demigod! More on that next week as I give you the rundown on this latest core book for Scion and how its Kickstarter is going to be verrrry different than the KS for Scion: Origin and Scion: Hero!

I’m really thrilled to be able to reveal today that on Wednesday, in addition to our releases for sale, our Scarred Lands adventure The Gauntlet of Spiragos will go live as an offering on the Astral TableTop virtual tabletop venue!

This is thrilling for me for a couple of reasons.

First, as long-time MMN Blog readers know, I’ve been beating the drum for us to make more of our worlds available on the various VTT venues that folks use to play online with their friends for years.

Now that the idea of playing TTRPGs online has really caught on, and the tools to do so are getting better and better every day, it’s satisfying to see that my impulse to push in that direction is more and more considered a viable direction for us to put effort towards.

It’s also thrilling for me because Gauntlet of Spiragos is an adventure I wrote because I had to do something creative in the TTRPG space while I was working on the late, lamented, WoD MMO.

Many a weekend I spent crouched over my laptop wresting with the writing and bouncing ideas off my housemates and my good buddy Aaron Voss. In fact, it was started during the onset of 4th Edition D&D, and edited into 5th Edition thanks to the keen eye and gaming knowledge of editor Scott Holden.

This was before Stewart Wieck and I bought the Scarred Lands IP from White Wolf, even. I just needed to create something that I could pull together without endless meetings and huge teams and giant budgets like the WoDMMO.

To see it now being reconfigured to work not as a book but as a VTT adventure is just amazing and I’m hoping that folks enjoy playing through it!

Speaking of creating games, last Friday’s Onyx Pathcast featured Dixie, Eddy, and Matthew spinning the “wheel of game concepts” and creating game pitches on the fly. The birth of new game ideas, with the three of them rocking the cradle. I think they managed to pull together nine of them, and honestly, each one could make for a viable game – and some are real gems!

anyway by now ive told basically everyone i care about but i had a life changing experience over the weekend. n it sounds dumb as shit but i met a real life dude who was basically a clone of nick from franz. weird hours. guess this is a thread

before we start i want to say i havent thought about franz in weeks. theyve gone away on their own finally but really i think my old obsessions just get replaced every few years and maybe it was my hard work in therapy or my new obsession with rap or

maybe it was just a realization or me growing up and maturing or something but i dont even want to work on my favorite fanfics anymore or anything. it’s just odd. i think im changing

and i don’t think about how my former favorite band members are doing or worry about them or check their socials n it feels really good. but i know there probably is or probably will be a replacement

ok that was a tangent. if they were replaced by anything they were replaced by new friends and the NBA. so there’s the exposition of this story sorted

anyway back to the weekend. the sleeper agent invited me to lunch. and that was the catalyst. god people are being so loud in here let me go to the art library

anyway i just kind of realized "huh i guess there's more out there." i went to lunch n shit. WE went to lunch n shit. stopped caring so much about my math homework. let myself be dumb and in love

that’s a very human thing. lunch. he spilled his stupid chipotle burrito all over his stupid bright green celtics jacket

he’s from italy. never even stepped foot in a chipotle. immediately clowned himself. some world we live in

we hung out all weekend. we went to lunch like two more times and we went to dinner. there was this big threat of leaving looming over my head the whole time. i made him walk like a mile on crutches and i feel very bad about it

i don’t know what’s wrong with him. it’s somewhere between a basketball injury and a chronic disability. either way that just made me feel even more emotionally attached to him. i never saw him without the celtics jacket

it was so cold that weekend. or maybe i just didn’t bring the right jacket. if he were a gentleman he would have offered me the celtics jacket. i didnt even hug him goodbye

and then of course he went back home. theres a million girls all over his instagram comments all the time. theres nothing special about me. he doesn't want to talk. i wrote my ap psych notes in green yesterday bc i was so in love with that stupid celtics jacket

im a sixers fan. the sixers and the celtics have been rivals forever. it was about to be war, except i want to move to boston. but really i want to move to dc. i wish the whole world was philly. things would be less complicated

im in love with a celtics jacket. a celtics jacket. of all teams. and i cant even talk to my basketball friends about it because they think im dumb shit for falling for some celtics fan with a million girls all over his instagram comments all the time

im not like those girls. i don’t think im like those girls. but i definitely exactly am

i have an economics test in fifteen minutes. i think one day ill drown in the atlantic ocean.

the test wasnt that bad. i thought about writing this the entire time. i would just zone out and stare and think about the phrase ‘al horford sleeper agent’

because he has to be. why else would someone put a diehard sixers fan right in front of a diehard celtics fan who looks exactly like the guitarist of their middle school favorite band

in reality i should be calling him a celtics sleeper agent because the whole point is that al horford is a sleeper agent for the celtics. but i hate al horford so i guess it’s more funny to include him in the title

i mean how can one player change so drastically like that? al horford was benched for the first time since his rookie season, like, two weeks ago after being traded to the sixers. how does that happen? why *wouldn’t* he be playing badly so his old friends win the title?

al horford’s gotta be retiring in like, three years, tops. he’s working for the celtics, i know it. and my sleeper agent is trying to convert me to a celtics fan

i understand why people make jokes, though. it’s a very human thing to want to go home. al horford just wants to go home. he lived in boston for however many years let me look it up

god whatever it was only three years i thought it was like eleven that just ruined my point

back to the matter at hand though that’s all we’re trying to do. we all just want to feel at home. we’re all just these little things trying to connect somehow. sometimes we are more desperate than others

i think im pretty desperate right now. sometimes i sit in my bedroom and im like damn when do i get to go home? but im home

i didn’t even want to leave dc. it was all star break and there wasn’t even basketball on. so there i was, in basketball purgatory, wizards territory for some god forsaken reason, losing sleep over a celtics fan and not wanting to go home

and when i say i was losing sleep you better believe me. i was so excited to wake up in the morning that i didn’t want to fall asleep. i wanted to be awake forever, endless, running through the city

i’ll get there soon enough. it’ll be with different people. college, yknow. all that. but sometimes i feel like certain things can’t be replaced.

and im acting like a different person lately. im using my phone at red lights just so i can check for a message from the sleeper agent. it’s always one word responses

and then, INEVITABLY, i send something stupid back, a photo of my hand on the wheel or something, and i get left on read

I want to feel like someone out there cares about me that isn’t obligated to, yknow? my mom can say she loves me all she wants but it doesn’t feel as good as some italian celtics fan saying it

Preface

RWBY is the breakthrough anime web series created by the late Monty Oum of Rooster Teeth. Originally teased on November 5th, 2012, and officially debuted July 18th, 2013, the series follows the journeys of four young women enrolled in an academy that trains monster-slaying warriors known as Huntsmen. Set in the fictional world of Remnant, the story initially focuses on the surface-level plot of fighting against humanity’s ancient adversary, the ever-present Creatures of Grimm; over time, it becomes apparent that things aren’t what they seem, as the cast slowly begins to connect a string of heists committed by a criminal syndicate with the violent acts of a terrorist cell. The series is aired weekly on Rooster Teeth’s website, with its main arcs spanning 12 – 16 episodes per volume. In the years following the show’s initial release, RWBY has spawned numerous merchandise and related media, including two spin-off shows, multiple side-stories published as mangas, two standalone books, three mobile games, a behind-the-scenes artbook, and OSTs for every volume to date.

As of Volume 7 there are 98 episodes in total with a collective runtime of 18:52:00, or approximately 1,132 minutes, with more episodes and side content underway.

At best, they’re visually interesting; at worst, they’re disappointing.

Let me take a second to backtrack before the lynch mob starts to sharpen its pitchforks. The series deserves much of the praise that it’s gotten. RWBY was the first American-produced anime to be released in Japan (and if you’re a fan of anime, you know how insane those words sound). The 3D models and animation from Volume 4 onward are breathtakingly stunning, and even before the show made the leap from Poser to Maya, the fight sequences managed to be equally creative and entertaining. The show was nominated for and received multiple Streamy Awards, and was awarded Best Animated Series by the International Academy of Web Television. The Volume 1 soundtrack reached number one on iTunes, beating out the soundtrack for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Such is RWBY’s (and Rooster Teeth’s) reputation that it managed to attract the attention of, and later bring on, industry veterans and vocal legends such as Jen Taylor, Josh Grelle, and Aaron Dismuke.

That’s to say nothing of the fandom this franchise has amassed, of kids, teenagers, and young adults alike. RWBY has generated dozens of forums dedicated to fanfiction, fanart, and roleplaying. Thousands of people the world over have bonded over this show, fans from all walks of life. They’re passionate about this series. The fact that I’m writing this post is a testimony of that. If I didn’t care about RWBY, I wouldn’t be sitting on my couch at 3 AM, hunched over my laptop in my pajamas.

If RWBY is so good (or occasionally threatens to become good), you might be wondering, why, then, does this blog exist?

Well, because…when you stop and look at it critically, it actually kind of sucks.

Despite initially being written by a three-man team, the series is full of inconsistencies and an underdeveloped cast. The characters, especially from Volumes 1 — 3, are full of one-dimensional stereotypes whose contributions to the story amount to a three-word summary: “The School Bully,” “The Wacky Professors,” “The Racist Cop,” “The Cutthroat Bitch,” “The Anime Waifu,” “The Audience Surrogate,” “Discount Elle Woods,” and so on. Fundamental elements of the story, like Aura, Semblance, and Dust, are either poorly-explained or not explained at all, and the limitations of those core concepts can change at a moment’s notice to suit the needs of the plot. The primary antagonist of the first three volumes is universally hated by the fandom for having no discernible motivations beyond being “ambitious and power-hungry,” and having a personality that consists exclusively of irritating smug. The show-writers, despite repeatedly promising queer representation, have failed to make even one of their ten central protagonists queer. This isn’t touching upon the fact that the first openly-gay character on the show was an antagonist, or that the next two were side-characters who were relevant to the plot for all of seven episodes, before vanishing from the story entirely. The two leads that are currently being hyped as our first queer main-cast members have only been repeatedly teased, with said characters never once uttering the words, “I’m bi,” “I date women,” “I’m not straight”—nothing but narrative subtext and playful winks from the VAs whenever a fan asks if they’re queer. Subplots end up having no pay-off or get entirely forgotten mid-volume. The story is so protagonist-biased that the heroes are frequently able to get away with being hypocritical, or committing criminal acts because “it was the right thing to do,” with their POV framed as an infallible “fuck you, got mine” verbal gut-punch to the audience (while other characters in the show, who often make the exact same calls as the heroes, are ridiculed by the show and the fandom). Whenever the story isn’t spray-painting stolen cars and selling them to their original owners, it manages to clumsily handle allegories for real-world issues such as systemic racism, mental illness, abuse dynamics/victim survivorship, and gray morality. The worldbuilding is absent from the main show and has to be supplemented through RWBY’s spin-off series World of Remnant. The story’s setting feels flat and lifeless at times because the “cultures” of this world are never established.

The list goes on and on.

So if this show has so many flaws, why are we still having this conversation?

Because I’m captivated by the untapped potential of this world. When you brush away all of the detritus, you can see the wealth of raw material buried beneath. This is a world where the gods have forsaken their creations, with one having even deliberately created the monsters that hunt humanity. The two characters who are central to the history of this world are tragic figures, one cursed with immortality as a punishment for demanding that the gods revise the first draft, and do away with needless death; and the other, cursed to ceaselessly reincarnate into the minds and bodies of like-minded souls, waging a war of attrition against a person warped beyond recognition by the capricious spite of the gods. This is a world of forgotten magic, of shifting allegiances, of characters embarking on personal journeys and unearthing deadly secrets. It’s a story of people from all walks of life learning to cooperate and work together, forging friendships and alliances in order to face the challenges that lie ahead.

It could easily have the bones of an epic fantasy series as long as it remembers to drink its milk.

RWBY’s issues aren’t insurmountable. Most of them are the byproduct of the series’ blind adherence to “rule of cool,” the motto that practically codified the beginning of the show. From Volume 4 onward, the series took a radical shift in tone that tried to be “more mature,” and only succeeded in making the earlier episodes absurd in hindsight. Why, in Volume 6, are the characters concerned about civilian endangerment, when in Volume 2 they happily pursued a giant mech in a highway car-chase scene that would’ve caused untold collateral damage and civilian death? This change in storytelling created a thematic disparity that reoccurs time and time again, retroactively emphasizing just how inconsistent the worldbuilding and storytelling are.

It tried to be Avatar: The Last Airbender, and what we’re left with instead is Game of Thrones Season 8.

Now, I’m not using this blog as a platform to damn Monty Oum (or claim to be a better creator than him). But it’s important to address the flaws in his story, and to acknowledge that his passing doesn’t make RWBY somehow sacrosanct or immune to constructive criticism. RWBY has flaws, ranging from nitpicky to potentially capable of causing real-world harm (in the case of the aforementioned queerbaiting and racism analogies). I’m a firm believer that art doesn’t exist in a vacuum; art is informed by our beliefs just as much as art informs our beliefs. We can still respect and admire the potential RWBY has to offer, while being mindful of where it needs to improve.

That’s where this blog comes in.

At the end of the day, the RWBY Redux exists as a thought experiment. I’m writing it chiefly to entertain worldbuilding ideas and headcanons I’ve spent years musing on. I’m not asking readers to agree with any of my numerous stances, nor am I going to shy away from other fans’ criticism as I hammer this project out. With a little TLC, perhaps I’ll manage to create something that manages to be more complex than its source material. And if you choose to follow along with my endeavors, hopefully you’ll find this project equal parts engaging and entertaining.
