A/N: idk how I wrote three imagines for Ethan in just one sitting... like I got school work to do 😭

You were almost starting to hate it how your best friend was an actual heartthrob. He went on so many dates than you can count but always came back alone, most of them just wanting fame.

"Do you think I should wear this shirt or this one?" Ethan held up two shirts in front of you.

You were scrolling on your phone, unamused.

"Aren't they the same shirt?" You asked, annoyed.

"What, no! Completely two different ones." Ethan argued. "This one has a completely different logo."

"And their both merchandise of our school." You replied. "Why do you care so much about this date anyway?"

"Because she's super cool." Ethan said like it was obvious.

"A lot of people are super cool." You joked.

"But she's... she's different. And she actually kind of looks like you." Ethan explained.

"You think I'm her twin or something?" You asked.

Ethan hit you on the arm. "Believe me, if you two were twins, I'd think I would know. Now which shirt?"

"The navy blue one." You answered honestly.

"Knew you'd pick that one." Ethan mumbles as he puts it on in front of you.

"A sight I'll never get tired of seeing." You mutter as you look up at his upper body.

Ethan chuckles. "You flatter me."

"I try too." You laugh.

"Well, you're very good at it, you know. Give yourself some credit." Ethan reassures you.

Your face flushed at Ethan's words, but you cleared your throat not letting it show.

"Yeah, thanks." You smiled softly. "It's cause of the rom-coms we've been watching."

"Oh yeah, they've been good so far. What's next on the list." Ethan asked.

"Hmm ten things I hate about you?" You suggested.

Ethan's eyes lit up. "I never watched that one when I get back definitely."

You gasped. "You never watched the iconic Shakespeare adaptation? Have you been living under a rock?"

"Well, I lived in Canada my whole life." Ethan chuckles. "Maybe that's why."

You shook your head. "No, it's clearly because you're uncultured and hang out with too many boys. Do you even know what Twilight is?"

"Twilight?" Ethan looked at you.

You groaned. "I'm gonna have to make a list of movies for to watch."

Ethan's eyes widened. "You wouldn't."

"I would." Your voice was stern.

You turned your attention back to your phone. Unaware of the audience you were currently having.

"What are you looking at?" You looked at him with a questionable look.

"You." He says instantly. "The lighting makes you look like a greek god or something."

"Well, are you gonna be specific and tell me which one or?" You chuckled.

Ethan laughed alongside you. "I would but... I don't know any of them."

"Hmm looks like Percy Jackson watch party is in order." You teased before checking the clock. "What time was your date again?"

"4 o'clock why?" Ethan asked.

"It's 4:15 Ethan." You told him.

Ethan got up immediately to your words and rushed his jacket on.

"Go on your date. Have fun, but remember -" You started.

"Not too much fun." Ethan finishes your sentence with a wink.

Ethan heads for the door. "I'll be back!"

"Okay!" You yelled back.

Three hours have passed since Ethan left. You couldn't help but think he went to first base so quickly. You were about to go to bed when you heard a knock on the door.

You were confused. Who would come to your dorm this late in the night?

You opened the door and found Ethan standing there, breathless.

"Ethan? What- what are you doing-" You cut off by Ethan aggressively kissing you.

You broke the kiss, in shock. "Ethan?"

"I realized something... I-I have feelings for you Y/N... today during my date all I could think about was you." Ethan confessed.

You opened the door wider to let him in and then shut it.

"You don't have to say anything or do anything for that matter, but you let me in your dorm, so I'm taking that as a good sign." Ethan talks to himself.

"I have feelings for you too." You blurted out.

Ethan was quick to look back at you and moved closer. You leaned in and kissed him, more softer than he had done minutes prior.

The kiss became more heated the more desperate the two of you became.

"I know we said tonight, but... can we continue the movie marathon tomorrow?" Ethan kisses your neck.

You nodded almost instantly. "Oh yeah definitely, this is way more important."

Ethan grinned at your words. "Way more important." He repeated your words as he took off his shirt.

" Where are we? "

The sun is almost completely gone. What's left of the light faintly lights up the inside of the van from the front windows.

" We're-" Eddie begins before Steve interrupts him.

" We can't tell you that. Not yet. "

I get the feeling he doesn't like me very much.

Eddie looks over at the man, letting out a small sigh in the process. " And I thought I was the dramatic one. What the fuck dude, just tell them. "

Steve lets out an annoyed huff. " Think, dude. What if they've got a group? What if they bring back an army that wipes everyone out at our base? "

" I don't have a group. " I try to reassure the man.

Steve doesn't budge. " I'm sorry, I just don't trust you yet. "

" Don't worry, mister Sunshine isn't always this friendly. " Eddie tries to break the tension with humor. " You should see him on poker night. "

" We're here. Eddie, bring 'em in. " Steve orders while the van pulls to a halt.

A faint buzz of noise fills my ears from outside of the van. Where are we?

Steve gets out of the van, leaving me and Eddie inside. Eddie helps me stand up and we patiently wait by the van doors.

The van doors swing open revealing Steve and an older man.

I think I recognize him...

" Sherriff? "

The man's brows furrow. " Are you from Hawkins? "

I nod. " Y-yeah. "

Sherriff Hopper nods at Eddie who leads me out of the van. " Bring 'em inside. "

We follow the sheriff down the road and I'm finally able to take in my surroundings.

Old businesses and buildings make up a long row eventually stopping at a large wall. People watch us as we pass, muttering amongst themselves curiously. Dogs roam the streets, some with collars and some without. Children run through the streets, loud laughter following behind them.

It's a community. God I missed this. I didn't think I'd ever see this again.

I'm led to a tall building, something I assume is the makeshift town hall. Multiple horses tied to the buildings railings stand around outside.

As we step inside I'm hit with a gust of cold wing. AC.

" Fuck, I missed air conditioning. " I let out a sigh of contentment. I close my eyes in and try to soak in the feeling.

Eddie chuckles. " AC is just the tip of the ice berg. "

What do they have here?

The sheriff leads us to an office. He sits behind a desk, folding his hands while he waits for us to close the door. " Who are you? "

Ouch. I thought he'd remember me. So much for small-town life.

" Y/N L/N. " I reply. I shift my hands slightly, uncomfortable under his scrutinizing gaze.

" Do you have a group? "

I shake my head. I hope they let me stay here. I fucking hate it out there alone. " No. I've been on my own for years. "

" How are you alive? " Eddie asks curiously. " We thought Hawkins was completely wiped out by the virus. How did you make it? "

" I hid in a house until I ran out of supplies. I went out to look for stuff, maybe make my way out of the state to see if I could find anyone else. I didn't know there were so many hordes on Main Street or I would've never done down there. "

" How many people have you killed? " Steve's voice is cold, distrusting. His gaze is sharp. It sends shivers down my spine.

" W-what? I've never killed anyone. I swear, I don't even know how to use a fucking gun! " I turn back to the sheriff. " Besides, I've been alone. Who the fuck would I kill? "

" Did you search 'em for weapons? " Sherriff Hopper asks Eddie and Steve.

" Just found this. " Steve sets my knife on Sherriff Hoppers' desk. " Otherwise, they're clean. "

" What is this place? " I ask.

" This is our community. It's called The Quarry. " Eddie informs as he takes a seat in one of the chairs across from the Sherriff.

" How do you guys have electricity? I thought everything went down when the virus hit. " I ask, very confused to how everything is working.

" We were able to turn on a power plant nearby thanks to some of the engineers who survived. " Hopper pulls out a knife. He cuts the zip tie around my wrist. " You can stay here on the condition that you pull your weight. We have multiple jobs that need positions filled if you're interested. If not, I'll have my boys here take you out a few miles from here and let you go. Your choice. "

" I want to stay here. " I say immediately. " I'll work. I don't care what I do. I just...I can't be out there alone anymore. " I tenderly touch the red lines that popped up from the zip ties on my wrist.

" Hop, I don't know- " Steve begins.

Sherriff Hopper shakes his head. " Steve, have they done anything to make you suspicious of them? "

Steve doesn't respond.

yesterday i was recovering from Exhausting Funeral Trip. so it makes sense that i was slow.

and i did:

- make my bed

- get groceries

- do my laundry

BIG tuesday

i skipped last tuesday because i was working on a take-home exam and simply did not have the time nor the inclination, so: beefy tuesdaypost today!

listening: my brother recommended 'dead magic' by anna von hausswolff and boy what an album. gothic, punchy, very vibey. the kind of album you let wash over you like an ocean wave.

pulled 'mostly kosher' from my to-listen list. fun, funky, very jewish, good vibes. ikh hob dikh tsufil lib

i've continued to mainline borodin symphonies 1 & 2. idk they're just hitting right.

and the new pieces for the orchestra i'm in - very french this time round: debussy's fêtes: kinda spooky and ominous and also fluid in a fun way! lots of buildup that seems to resolve into nothingness. horn parts for this are pretty good, not too difficult but are definitely Heard. chabrier's españa: really bumpin horn parts. fun bouncy motifs. what's not to like.

pocasting-wise, i'm up to partizan 38. 10 episodes left!!! the home stretch!!!!! it's so good but things are definitely amping up in the end-of-fatt-season way.

i've also listened to my friend b's gotham tv show podcast 'jim gordon must die'. very good and funny. i laughed out loud at some of the episode 3 descriptions.

reading: i was stuck in Bad Airport Times this past saturday (flight delayed 3 hours, then sat for an hour on the tarmac, arrived at 10pm when i was originally supposed to arrive at like 630) so i blasted through all ~150k words of 'freefall' by Kunoichi21 and xoTsundoku. bog-standard mafia au, but with a fun little circus arts twist; fun background fengqing; i do not like that they made beefleaf wholesome. give me my toxic beefleaf god damn it. but otherwise it was a fun read, sappy romcom-style. the fic itself isn't quite done but it's in endgame. the author notes have peak fanfic culture energy of "hey guys! sorry i didn't update, i started nursing school and my dad died" bro .... ;___; goddamn. please take care of urselves

watching: we are almost done with kill la kill! last two eps!!! so tonight we're doing that and also watching last week's dunmeshi together.

friend and i finished comrade detective. incredible. no notes. so funny. we started 'endeavour' which is a detective morse prequel thing and goddd the british-isms, and also started serial experiments lain. i don't know what i was expecting but god it was not this. i literally thought this was a cute fun hacker mystery show in the energy of cowboy bebop. it is Not That. not even close. it's good though i'm enjoying it. currently staggering through life going uhhhhh like lain does in the first few eps.

playing: fallow. i am re-installing disco elysium on my computer though. ive been wondering if i should try to keep going on the save file from last year or if i should just start over because i barely got in there at all.

making: many things. pottery!! some good some not as good.

so this design came out SO nice but the underglaze is so gd streaky! i hate it !!! i don't think it's really fixable either, i tried the hairspray trick to put new solid glaze over top the inside so at least that would look less like shit but i could not get it to work. maybe sanding it down? idk. it's ugly. it was supposed to be a bright teal but the woman who runs the studio mixed the batch up wrong so it's like. a really drab gray and not in a fun or intentional way. idk.

some new bisque:

teacups came out! still mismatched but cute nonetheless! gonna do them in a sort of celadon-type color with white flowers to match the teapot that my SO has :)

i don't feel like adding more photos for these lol they're very boring. the pot for my mom came out fine i think. gonna go in with normal white glaze over top to paint in some trees or other botanical designs. i sponged the underglaze on so hopefully the final result won't be streaky. sponged red on my seder plate to hopefully accomplish the same thing. mugs came through the bisque with no issues but i didn't do anything fun with underglaze on one of them so no new pics of that, but the other i did this tree thing again:

i KNOW it'll be streaky as hell. i just know. so i'm considering how i want to do it. perhaps putting some slightly transparent green over the top of it all to meld it together? unsure.

some new stuff: made a citrus juicer, this was attempt number 2 and just barely got it to work, attempt 1 was a total disaster. also made another mug type object, hopefully it'll still be wet enough this weekend to slap a handle on.

two mugs with red clay, i really loved the lascaux mugs that jessica bartram put up for sale last year but i didnt snag one in time so i was like. fuck it. i will make my own. gonna let them dry to leather hard before going in with black underglaze.

i've been trying to draw again but. idk. i just feel very uninspired. i start drawing and it's like :| :| :|

eating: i was on my own food-wise for much of the last week because my roommate was babysitting for the rabbi, so i did not eat nearly as extravagantly as i normally do, LOL. i made a lo mein recipe that was kinda just a stir fry. this could have been my fault because i added a bunch of extra shit like bok choy and mushrooms. i also didn't use the correct type of noodle, and i didnt have oyster sauce so i used worcestershire, etc. many substitutions so it's probably not fair for me to say it was Just Fine. will have to try again at some later date actually following the recipe. herb and radish salad with feta and walnuts: delicious. 10/10. i tossed in some extra arugula and that was also good. and i made the tofu brussel sprouts tahini/hoisin sauce thing again because it's easy and tasty.

at the time being, what is your goal with art creation, or even, what is your goal with reblagging art that you like?

the answer i used to give was "so i can represent myself before god".

god is an infinite reservoir into which we can displace our impossible and inchoate wants. to succeed at art is to sharpen and refine our capacity to want. i am sad, and i represent the sadness honestly in a comic, indulge it and give testimony to it; i do this loudly and boldly in hopes that somebody up there notices. in this way the story of my life becomes about, rather than the person who made me sad, the way my sadness looks before the ultimate audience the LORD.

there is a lot that this framing omits, though, a world of objects, mediums, people. art is a social practice, with other selves and hurt feelings resulting from their friction. i have spent maybe most of my early 20s writing about and obsessing over lofty ideas in part to hide from this fact. i think it is maybe about time i take a closer look at the Things of This World.

here is a list of 9 depraved and carnal sub-motives to art-as-performance-before-god... Number 9 Will Shock You!

(sorry i tried making this short but it got very long and pretentious and edgy again)

1. pride in my own genius, in seeing myself AS someone who is driven to create art, someone whose soul has been imbued into many art objects. i have felt this lately looking back on 2017 me: they are a strange and messy creature with sculpey dolls and drugs in the mail and posters of neolithic sculptures on their wall. it feels exhilarating to create while you are riding a wave of inspiration; it feels almost as nice to look back years later and recognize yourself in it. maybe if I make something good enough I would be beautiful forever and never have to make art again?

2. the sympathy of others in seeing my sadness decorated. it felt nice when k told me he cried reading my mahavidya comic. it felt nice for s to appreciate my cat comic. william godfrey said mary wollstonecraft's book was perfectly designed to make him fall in love with her--i have badly wished this to be said about me and the way i externalize myself. I do not like very much how I truly am. someone who loves my art and writing loves me for how i wish to be seen.

3. transmutation of my ugly bits into something powerful and sharp, capable of doing damage, of alienating. i make art to feel like a well-crafted weapon. i feel an immense amount of anger. i hate people when they like me and i hate them when they don't. i hate myself that i care. i don't know what i want but i know who i am. could they ever understand? but i understand, and i make so few concessions for them—watch me not care! are you impressed?

but it's also the opposite of all these things. as drunk as I might get on self-mythologizing, 4. i would still like to always be improving my craft. I would like to prioritize the production and product above the romance of Being The Artist.

and i want sympathy, but not at the expense of honesty; 5. i am trying to get closer to truth undecorated, to a purer and less sensationalized story of my life, one that i can separate from my art and draw from less compulsively.

and 6. please, please, please notice me! i care so much what you think!

so i think in the end it's confusing and i don't know. maybe it's like this--do you know karen horney's 10 neurotic needs? i see a place for art in each of these--

but maybe this isn't really honest either, and it's a lot simpler. all of these things come out when i create art, but when i pull up a page it is just because 7. my friend wants me to draw a picture of her as a skuncc. or 8. i was bored in church and fascinated by the shape of a cat's head. or 9. a ferret is very cute, and so i must draw.

i don't think you should trust very much what i have to say about why i make art.

3. Shi Qingxuan/Jun Wu I did NOT expect Jun Wu to be on this list but I started writing my fic and I kind of fell in love with his character. He's an awful person who loves causing misery but at the same time there's something so painfully human about wanting so desperately to be understood by someone, anyone. I don't condone his actions but I'm here to watch. I love Shi Qingxuan for being genderfluid, brave and kind, and just so much fun. She brings unmatched energy into every scene she's in and I just love her.

2. Hua Cheng This one should be pretty obvious considering I made him my pfp on my art blog and refuse to stfu about him but god DAMN I just can't stop thinking about him. I love everything about him. His amazing fits. His incredibly powerful imagery. The way he's just so insane. His butterflies. The color red. The gender. Everything.

1. Xie Lian He's the one I draw the most for a reason. I have a thing for characters who choose kindness whenever they can, and I love Xie Lian for being able to ultimately decide that he does in fact want to use his godly powers to protect his believers and not to dominate them. He doesn't make that decision lightly—he knows what it's like to abuse his power for the sake of vengeance and he's seen what it's like when gods abuse their power for greed—he decides that being kind and benevolent is the path he wants to take because ultimately, it's love that keeps the world intact. Xie Lian is love, and I love him.

Honorable mentions: Mu Qing, Shi Wudu, He Xuan, Yushi Huang

top 3 svsss characters (bear with me because I am not super familiar with SVSSS)

3. Shang Qinghua I want to throw him against a wall (affectionate). I hate him. I love him but on a deeper level I hate him but on an even deeper level I love him. Just,, such a little shit

2. Zhuzi Lang He's a pathetic little meow meow with a fucked up sense of morality and objectively too many snakes. Someone get this guy a therapist and maybe a snack

1. Liu Qingge He's a hater through and through. I, too, find Bingqiu irritating. His "no Luo Binghes allowed" rule is perfection imo. And the way Shen Qingqiu can just call out his name and Liu Qingge will come out of literally nowhere with a flying kick?? Love that.

I honestly can't rank my top 3 moments from SVSSS because I don't remember it that well. Here are mine from TGCF though!

3. Jealous Xie Lian during the Blackwater arc Hua Cheng is like "my beloved is a noble, gracious special someone" and Xie Lian is like "ugh i hope they fucking die I MEAN I HOPE YOU THEY MAKE YOU SMILE." We don't really see jealous Xie Lian that often and it was really funny to see just how petty he got. He's usually really calm and collected and neutral about things but he was so intense here. Possibly because he was a bit hangry.

2. The Hualian confession Everything about it is just. hrmnksgnsf. I love it. I love the way they're kinda awkward after it but then they clear the air a bit and continue onwards while holding hands. I love the way Xie Lian confesses with a hug.

1. The bamboo hat/Xie Lian telling Bai Wuxiang to fuck off The moment where Xie Lian's faith in humanity is restored. And then Bai Wuxiang appears and tries to be all evil and Xie Lian just goes "fuck off you ugly mf you're blocking my sun" to the guy who's been haunting him nonstop for months on end. And Bai Wuxiang is so stunned that he gets a little desperate—so desperate that he starts a fight just so he can have an excuse to be "defeated" by Jun Wu. Man, I love that scene.

Top 10 of 2023 -- Theatrical Releases

Started using letterboxd as a journal two years ago, mostly so I could remember just how recently I'd watched Big Trouble in Little China or Hot Fuzz, but also to hit 'em with of the moment reviews and ratings fresh from the theatre. Which is to say, I'm a little nervous to see what'll come up at the top, but let's take a trip.

10- The Boogeyman (**1/2) - Technically in theatres for a week or two. Buried otherwise, a low stakes King adaptation/remake/reboot that makes the list so I don't have to say anything about AntMan, Elemental, Renfield, or, god forbid, Mario. Effective horror, kind of a neat creature at the center of it, pleasantly surprised that I didn't hate it.

9- Asteroid City (***) - Did lead to a minor personal epiphany, so not all bad. The amount of meta-fictional artifice (lest we for a second want to empathize or consider Wes' paper doll characters in his paper doll theatre as being recognizably human) has gone well-beyond the 'as Royal Tenenbaum' and 'let me tell you about my boat,' past the authorial frame of the Grand Budapest and as of The French Dispatch, Mssr Anderson is now almost entirely preoccupied with stories within stories and it is actually very annoying. (The minor epiphany is that I have also been doing this, as metafiction delights me too, Wes, but why should anyone else care?) Anyway, highlight here is the usual meticulous design, the ridiculous stop-motion sequence, some crackerjack dialogue (muted because now every character has the same blunted affect and without subtitles I sorta glazed over in parts) and these movies remain quite funny.

8- Barbie (***1/2) - Watched a lot of pablum this year, most of it with very naked corporate ambition. Barbie's central trick is to critique itself and the very cynical context in which it critiques itself and hopefully contain within it the entire discourse (good luck to you.) Wish I hadn't had to listen to people earnestly tell me how brilliant and resonant certain 'pause for applause' moments were, but the humour may well stand the test of time, and people were rightly hyped on Ryan Gosling's over-delivery on what once was seen as an unlikely bit of casting.

7- Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 (***1/2) - Not too proud to admit I was, in 2023, still kind of excited to see this one (1) marvel movie. Crisp Rat aside, the Guardians deliver best on the comic-to-screen vibe and rarely seem embarrassed with their source, leading to the intense emotional journey of a CGI mutant raccoon bounty hunter reckoning with his maker, no winking involved. Rocket Raccoon is my fucking guy, anyway, no more of these, please and thanks.

6- Dungeons and Dragons, Honor Among Thieves (***1/2) - Yeah, okay, more popcorn flick pablum. Hasbro hoping to further capitalize on the pop culture rise of and monetize and micro-transaction-atize and thereby enshitiffy one of my dearest hobbies (I am diversifying away from D&D TM) looming large in the background here, given the whole OGL blowback it was briefly reasonable large portions of diehards might boycott this thing. Anyway, saw it, liked it, succeeded wildly in the goal of effectively conveying what it's actually like to play a fantasy ttrpg, all the weird in-jokes, wild variations in tone, hand-waving and quirks of 'the rules' there for snorts of recognition. Cannot imagine this was much fun for non-players, but maybe.

5- Across the Spider-Verse (****) - Extremely hyped, but hopefully not the zenith of the trilogy, a lot is riding on part 3, which is thankfully due, uhhh, sometime next year? Dragged out its ending laying more groundwork, but before then, another ceiling breaking exercise in contemporary animation, an almost non-stop kinetic kaleidoscope of visual creativity that augurs well for animation's continued evolution.

4- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in Mutant Mayhem (****) - Speaking of. Now, I've loved the Turtles since I was 4 years old, so my personal belief has always been, even though I love the 1990 rubber-suited cash grab, that the central premise is something that in the right hands can actually be objectively good, as opposed to personally delightful to me. This is that movie, the good Ninja Turtles movie. 'Teenage' -- to the point of being endearingly, obnoxiously immature, 'Mutant' -- to the point that the world around them is just as grody and fucked up looking as they are, 'Ninja' -- with sly handheld camera angles and satisfyingly fluid motion to rival Spiderverse, and uh, 'Turtles' -- they sure fucking are. I loved this. Jackie Chan forever.More, please.

3- Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person (****) - Exceedingly Quebecois take on the contemporary hipster vampire movie, Can-con for my list. Canadian Indies in 2023 are strikingly similar to American Indies from 2008, if that at all recommends. Ranks high for efficient self-contained everything, very charming, funny, just bizarre enough.

2- The Boy and the Heron (****1/2) - Easy to feel like this is a Ghibli greatest hits compilation, easier to remember that's what we all kinda want-- cute and unsettling creatures, delicious looking food, spirit worlds, quiet moments of reflection, arcane rules for how any and everything works... yet also maybe the truest return to the titanic achievements of Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away (especially.) Story forms a suitably esoteric thesis about grief and creation and, ultimately, endings. I think Miyazaki might actually be done this time.

1- Godzilla Minus One (*****) - An entirely different movie than Shin Godzilla, very possibly even better. It's tense (Godzilla hasn't felt creepy like this for a while.) It's emotional (rivals Godzilla vs Biollante in its human story.) It's very naked in its message (ah, the guilt.) The action is superb. I do not know where Godzilla goes from here. (Mothra!)

So I convinced my friend Arrow to watch Naruto with me because I was super obssessed with it back in grade school and was surprised I never managed to make them watch it before. Naruto is a big part of my life and is a hyperfixation I go back to every so often, like right now, and I desperately want to talk to my best friend about it without them just slow blinking at me every time I drop the sand siblings names lol.

Anyways, they have agreed to watch a bit of it and I know I can't start at the beginning with episode 1 because I have a feeling we won't make it to the Chunin exams. They also told me while they never watched it they know about "eyebrows" and that he's their favorite character. Took me a good few minutes to stop laughing at the fact Arrow called Rock Lee eyebrows to answer with my own questions about what they knew tbh. With that I started to research different episodes we could start from.

So my plan is to start at the Chunin exams and have them be introduced to Rock Lee and the Sand Siblings (who are my favorite characters). Issue is I don't know if the Chunin Exams would still be too long of a watch for them with also me wanting them to watch the fight between Naruto and Gaara (mainly because that fight gets me sobbing and I need them to understand why I identified with this boy as a kid.) With that in mind I'm trying to curate a list of some episodes for them to watch and ho boy I'm not sure if I should try to bulk up the list or dwindle it down even more. Should probably ask them if there's a cap of how many episodes they're willing to watch lmao.

If anyone has any suggestions on what episodes should we watch, we're definitely doing the Rock Lee vs Gaara fight, I'd appreciate it. Especially if the episodes show how cool either Rock Lee or the Sand Siblings are so I can maybe convince them to watch more lol!

(another entry i forgot to post) It is 2am. Today my uncle came over again and we watched the last episodes of ROTTMNT. We are gonna watch the movie the day after tomorrow and then we will be finished with the series in its entirety. Which honestly makes me sad because I wish the series was longer, it deserved better than a season and a half… But anyway I’m also almost finished watching Vinland Saga, I’m on the 18th episode of season 2. Keep slacking on finishing it though.

I’m learning how to do my eyeliner and am currently typing this with a fricked up face after doing it for the second time ever. It’s so DIFFICULT but also much easier than I expected. I’ll get better with time and all that. Yada yada.

I want to get better with procrastination, I have so many things I want to do that I can right now but I never do them or I haven’t even started yet. I Also just remembered as I’m typing this I was supposed to make my list of every single thing I need/want to do… I don’t think I finished that ahh.

Anyway. I’ve been thinking maybe I should find a hobby I can do that doesn’t require much effort to start, like a video game. My main issue with doing things is actually getting myself to start, it takes a significant amount of time for me to summon the will, but once I’m actually doing the task I’m fine. And you don’t have to set up or do anything to start playing a video game, you just click on it and play. Much easier than a physical hobby. Doesn’t require money for many games also which means don’t need to ask my parents for supplies or get a job.

The other thing is though, I get addicted to video games very easily, I get addicted to basically anything that is even slightly addictive actually. I’m quite prone to addiction. And that’s why I usually avoid playing games.

It is now 6AM. And I can’t decide whether to sleep or stay up. I want to sleep cause I feel bad, like I don’t know what to do at all and I don’t want to exist, and sleeping will fix that because it’s the same as not existing for a little while, AND I only feel like that because I’m sleep deprived. But I think that sleeping is the more unhealthy of the two options because if I sleep I’ll sleep all day and stay up again tomorrow which’ll just repeat the cycle. While staying up for the rest of the day would help get my sleep back in check. I don’t know. I’ll probably give into just wanting to not exist and sleep. Sleep is good. I like not existing for a little bit. Also my arm is so itchy and it wont go away I think something bit me.

I feel like people are watching me again. I always feel like people are watching me. I want to sleep so that I can stop feeling like people are watching me. People are not watching me but I can never convince myself of that because I am psychotic. Ugh I wanna die. Not really but y’know. It’s like, ew. Stop everything. Ever.

I’m gonna go to sleep. I am going to give in and repeat the unhealthy cycle because I can’t deal with thiiiissss. Throws up. Dies. Kills myself. Also side note I have a really bad fear that any time I say “I want to (insert some bad situation happening to me)” that god will make it happen as punishment for me saying that. But that is illogical. If I say “I hope I die” I won’t actually die just because of it. The other day when I was in really bad pain because of the plane landing I texted my friend, “I HOPE WE CRASH” and we didn’t crash. But maybe that’s just because the plane crashing would hurt other innocent people as well.

But me dying would also hurt my parents and siblings and friends. And just generally everyone in my life. So my death really cannot be used as punishment. Sigh.

I hate religion and society why can’t we just exist. But no we can’t. Everything has to be so fucking complicated and stupid with unnecessary shit attached and the highest stakes imaginable, so much so that you can’t even comprehend the punishment for doing it wrong. It worse beyond your imagination!!

It’s 1:59PM now. I got woken up like 20 minutes ago. I have to do the dishes now. Unload, reload. I already finished unloading before typing this and now I’m just sitting in the bathroom not actually doing anything to avoid reloading the dishwasher for a minute more. I’m gonna go do that now.

Nevermind mama did that while I was in the bathroom. She’s also making pizza out of focaccia bread. I switched over the laundry instead. Nothing else to talk about right now.

It’s 3:57PM. I just got out of the shower. I regret not putting a hair mask on. And I’m eating the pizza. It’s very soft and quite salty because mama had added salt after mozzarella not thinking about the fact that the mozzarella already has salt in it.

I’ve still been slacking on my Japanese, it’s been like 3 months since I started and I still don’t even know half of the kana I was supposed to memorize all of in a couple days. T^T I’m gonna do my kana today though. Try to make it a habit.

The Fault In Our Stars (from the clouds)

I can NOT sleep on planes.. I've tried everything - skimping on sleep the night before, Ambien and other sleep inducing drug, melatonin, bendaryl and wine, just copious amounts of wine. Nothing works. Ok, maybe on thing works... getting upgraded to business first with lay down seats. Well on my trip from Milan to Newark I was not upgraded so I had a plan to keep myself occupied - watch a movie, get some work done (thank god for those power adapters between the seats), watch another movie and finish off the wonderful book I started earlier this week (The Fault in our Stars) Started off with Anchorman 2... don't waste your time. It was even worse than Anchroman (yes, I'm one of THOSE people that hated that movie - don't get it). Work, work, work, feel accomplished enough to focus my attention on another film. This time I chose much wiser - Enough Said. Nice flick with Julia Louis Dreyfuss, James Galdophini and Catherine Keener. Bit of a tearjerker but I thought it addressed being at an age when you don't have the faintest clue how to deal with your love life. In other words, I completely understood it. Well that would assume that I have a love life... but that is for another post and another time. I tend to get quite anxious at the end of any international flight so I figured what a better way to pass the time then to finish the book. I started reading it earlier in the week and it grabbed me right from the beginning. My sleep was suffering so I had to finish this book! It's very well written - I found myself highlighting passages simply because they really spoke to me (not something I do often even when I'm reading an actual book versus reading on my iPad) and rereading complete sections because they were simply amazing. The last 1/4 of the book is a roller coaster of emotions which left me weeping for most of the last hour of my flight. I've gotten to the point in my life where I could care a less if the person sitting next to me sees me crying but when I closed my iPad and finished the book I found myself curled up in a ball in my seat staring out the window at the clouds and I realized I was calm and quite comfortable! (not an easy feat in an economy minus seat for 8 hours). The question tha remains is... where do I find another book like this? What should be next on my list?

That night in the park stuck like glue to both of their minds, she was different then what Vance had heard. y/n had the same thoughts in her mind, she was right, he wasn’t as scary as he thought, though she’d never tell him that.

y/n skin was still painted in colourful bruises by mondays time, having spent her weekend alone in her room she held no desire for seeing anyone that day. She was no longer seen as the harmless quiet girl, the world around her changed their thoughts of her demeanour, i guess that’s what happens when you break a girls nose.

Pushing the heavy metal doors open, people watched her every step. Once flying under the radar of everyone to being in the spotlight wasn’t something y/n was fond of.

Hours felt like decades sitting through her classes, eyes burning holes through her skin. God all the fucking eyes, watching her, looking at her like she was some kind of display drove her mind crazy. Her skin burned hot like it would melt off at any given moment.

Her pace was quicker walking from one class to the next, sure she liked attention but not like this. Dirty looks and side eyes followed her everywhere she went, her veins pumped ice cold rage through her body, feeling like she could explode any minute.

y/n walked with her head down, colliding with another body. “fucking watch out dipshit” clenching her jaw as she looked up ‘fucking great’ she thought.

Bruce Yamada, she hated him right now. there he was standing directly infront of her. “watch out, might run into the wrong person” Bruce’s eyes shifted to Vance and his goons at the end of the hall, god he made her insides boil.

“At least he doesn’t get his dreams and reality confused” y/n intended to play her favourite game, gathering ever last calm nerve in her body, her lips dropped into an innocent smile. Bruce looked at the girl confused.

Lifting a piece of her hair, twirling it between her fingers. “I can’t even imagine how hard it must be for you, having to constantly come up with lies to keep yourself interesting to others” her voice was steady and soft, fake pout resting on her lips hand dropping back down to her books “poor boy, must be so exhausting being that boring” slightly shrugging her shoulders offering up a half smile and a small wave, y/n turned away leaving him there.

Bruce was bewildered over the words spoken to him, was she right? Did he lie to people about what he did? Well yeah, but didn’t everyone? y/n words slowly sunk deeper into him the more he recalled them.

y/n wore an entertained smirk the remainder of that day, mind tricks where her favourite way of getting back at people. Sure it didn’t have an immediate impact like fighting did, but it lasted longer.

Making people question themselves, overthink the way they did things was just how she got revenge. Nobody expects the sweet girl from their math class to mentally fuck them with a few sentences.

She took pride in the way she challenged peoples thoughts, maybe it wasn’t something she should have been so proud of, but then again if people could physically attack each other, why couldn’t she  psychologically do it?

Like any other night the girl found herself sitting in the park again, alone in the dark was when her mind spoke the most. Toxic air filling and leaving her lungs, whisked away by gentle winds.

Vance found himself drawn to walk the paths though the park again, he wanted to see her again. Never would he admit that, not to himself let alone speak it out loud. Without second thoughts that’s where he headed.

There she was, sat in a different place this time. the swings. Her back was turned to him but he knew it was her. It could have been her hair, it often fell messy down her back. Maybe it was the shoes, laces stretched and tightened endless times they reached the ground even when tied. Perhaps it was the steady steam of smoke that came from her hand.

she lived in solitary, he found that captivating.

Vance carried himself soundlessly towards the long haired girl, placing himself left of her. y/n sensed his presence before he was visible to her.

he was fervent, she found it admiring.

Without a word y/n reached in her pocket holding a now slightly squished pack of camels towards the boy. Vance’s fingertips brushed her cold fingers, pulling a dart and her lighter offered to him.

Eyes lingering to the left, y/n observed. Small sparks flickering off the flame, lighting the end of his cigarette. Fire illuminated his features.

He felt her gaze, he didn’t mind her eyes watching him. Vance didn’t smoke much but enjoyed how it felt with her. He felt at ease, silence was comforting when she sat next to him.

The world moved slower, both could breath.

“You could say hi you know” y/n spoke in a hushed tone rocking on her swing. He smiled whispering out a hello.

Smiles where strange, nobody smiled at him and he certainly didn’t smile at anyone.

y/n hummed, his fingers fiddled with the chains. Soon y/n finished her smoke standing from her seat, turning facing the blonded boy. Fingers shuffling through her pocket pulling out a crunched up piece of paper, Vance watched her confused when it was placed in his hand.

Without another word, y/n was off. vance watched her walk away till she was no longer in his sight.

Vance didn’t unfold that note right away, he waited till he was home. Sat in his bed watching his ceiling, humming coming from the stereo across the room.

His fingers once again fiddled, only this time unfolding the paper. He sat up smoothing out the crinkles the best he could.

He was confused why she gave him a note instead of just talking. Sure he understood why most people didn’t talk to him, but you were different. It was like you challenged him.

Vance sighed, his hair fell when he looked down at the piece of paper. She has pretty writing.

“words loud, actions louder, but feelings loudest. i feel sane with you”

Infatuated over simple words that held deeper meanings Vance read the lines over and over. He didn’t fully understand what y/n had meant but something inside his mind told him he felt the same.

Emily was back the next day meaning everyone was now focused on her and her bandaged nose. y/n really didn’t know how much damage she did that day. Emily’s face was bruised pretty bad.

She deserved it.

The brown haired girl often blew things out of proportion. Expanding the truth to the point it was almost a lie.

y/n was just grateful all the attention was finally off her.

y/n stood at her locker changing her books and gathering her homework.

Her body was shoved by strong shoulders into her locker, she turned to say something stopping herself seeing it was Vance.

He looked down at something on the floor then back to her as he kept walking. y/n looked down spotting a crinkled up paper of his own.

She picked up the ball unraveling it as she stood back up.

“you’re not that bad. park tonight.”

y/n smiled folding the note up neatly placing it in her pocket. She was always at that park, he just didn’t know that yet.

She got to the park at her usual time, Vance a few minutes later. They took place on the swings again. “Hey” y/n smiled softly at the curly haired boy “Weather man said it’s gonna rain soon”

Vance nodded “Yeah i saw that” y/n shrugged handing him one of the two cigarettes left in her pack, he took it waiting his turn with the lighter.

y/n watched the cloud rolling in above, Vance watched her. Oblivious to his stare she smiled “I love the rain” he’d remember that. who liked the rain? “Why? It makes everything wet and gross”

She looked at him questioningly “I find it lovely, rain makes me happy” y/n took a deep breath “It’s like the world is washing away all the bad things.” He never thought like that.

“I guess that makes sense” he shrugged, both of them falling silent. It stayed like that till it was time for them to part. y/n stood first. “I like the silence” she smiled down to him “Until next time” and with that she left and the rain came.

Vance walked home, recalling how she thought of the rain. Maybe it really wasn’t that bad, maybe he liked the rain too.

Vance became a staple in her nightly routine.

Often times the pair sat in silence, listening to how the earth talked at night. Glancing at one another through the few minutes they shared each night. Eyes fell into eyes, like souls spoke to each other. Small innocent touches, pinkies linked with one another. The time they spent together started getting longer and longer and yet only a hello was spoken each time.

Vance dropped a note into y/n’s palm one night before he left. It wasn’t uncommon for him to do that, it was their way of speaking to each other.

“let’s talk”

y/n braced herself for that night, not having spoken but a few sentences to each other over the past few weeks they’d know one another. She sometimes wondered how he’d speak to her. his notes where often short, she kept each one in the top drawer of her bed side table.

She wouldn’t expect it but he too kept each one of her notes, safely hidden away in his closet.

y/n made him feel warm, Vance made her feel understood. Things neither of them had felt before.

Vance was there in his usual spot, the left swing, when she arrived that night. y/n took her place, following their routine offering him a stick from her pack in which he took.

y/n noticed his knuckles bruised and split, she looked at her own hand, hers where scared from when she’d used violence.

Over the weeks they noticed the ways the other dealt with those who pissed them off.

y/n wasn’t always quiet, matter of fact she really wasn’t. If you knew her well she could talk for hours. she also wasn’t as nice as people believed. Like Vance she had things that sent her into a spiral. Only well vance physical hurt, y/n did it mentally. She stuck more, biting at peoples souls rather then making them bleed.

Vance didn’t understand why she chose words over pounding someone’s face in, while y/n didn’t understand why he chose momentary pain over a lasting mark.

The two of them where the same but so different, Vance made people panic, y/n made fear slowly creep into their minds.

Though not understand why one another chose different poisons, they admired eachothers effects on others.

Slowly Vance realized words would cut deeper and y/n found force would work faster.

“Your bruises are pretty” her voice hummed smoothly with sounds of the night, he turned looking at her then his hand. He found it odd to complement the result of his violent tendencies, he appreciated it.

Reaching out he linked his pinky with hers, hands falling between two swings was comforting. “There for you” y/n looked at him brows knitting together. “How so?” Vance shrugged, eyes lifting off his hand meeting with hers “I didn’t like the way someone was talking about you”

y/n gave him eyes of awe, she’d never look at him like that. “Vance ‘pinball’ Hopper” he liked the way his name left her lips “That is the most romantic thing i’ve ever heard”

The way she admired his violence made him feel better, it wasn’t something he always had control over.

“I saw some make that girl cry earlier, what was that about?” he asked, she squeezed her pinky around his dropping her gaze. “A similar situation”

She didn’t see the way his eyes sparked. Someone speaking up for him? Vance never expected that, definitely not from you at that.

So I’ve been listening to lots of podcasts at work lately to break up the monotony of my office job. Mainly they’re horror, suspense/thriller, drama, that kind of thing. Trying to give ratings without spoilers~

The Left Right Game (a journalist investigating an urban legend that gets increasingly more dangerous as they go): 5/5, this being one of the first ones I listened to set the bar really high tbh, it was great, immersive sound design, genuinely suspenseful and creepy moments, interesting plot, my only gripe is that I didn’t love the ending but I couldn’t dock a star just for that, highly recommend, maybe I’ll retire to Wintry Bay someday 

Alice Isn’t Dead (delivery trucker goes searching for her believed dead wife, comes across supernatural towns and creatures and a conspiracy that goes way deeper than one missing woman): 5/5, so so good, enjoyed a lot, I loved learning the truth about the Thistle men, still don’t completely understand oracles but that’s okay, some delightfully creepy moments, this will be high on my recommendation list (also it’s by the Welcome to Night Vale people, which I actually haven’t listened to lmao)

Harley Quinn and the Joker: Sound Mind (it’s a Harley Quinn origin story basically): 5/5, very enjoyable, sound design great, plot was fun, I don’t know how accurate this story is to the original Harley Quinn origin story but I liked this a lot

The Burned Photo (two women try to fight a familial curse haunting their bloodlines): 4/5, not bad at all, I thought the sound design was great and immersive but I thought the monster’s voice was a bit goofy idk, the plot wasn’t bad though ofc it was pretty bittersweet and sad in the end, tho I think it was never going to be happy for everyone involved

Blackwood (group of teens investigate the town urban legend and uncover more than they bargained for): I can’t decide…3.5 maybe? It was okay. I didn’t love it or hate it, I’m pretty neutral about it. It was interesting enough

Gaslight (girl goes missing and then reappears to her best friend years later with little explanation): 3/5, feels like there should be another season, wasn’t as dramatic/suspenseful as I thought it would be (maybe that’s my own fault tho, from the description and stuff I thought there would be more to it)

Ice-Cream (teens suspect the friendly neighborhood ice cream man of abducting little kids and uncover a dark secret): 4.5/5, interesting and a lil creepy, there’s something oddly funny about hearing someone scream “fuck you Beelzebub” even in context, sound design is pretty good and voice acting is great, finale was also pretty good but I’m docking half a star bc of that very last bit and bc I said so, overall short n’ sweet, no pun intendo (I’m kinda glad that it’s only the one season and not super long, gives the feeling of not overstaying its welcome. Also in awe that they made it within like a month, gonna go listen to their other podcast Cascadia too)

Cascadia (submarine expedition to uncharted waters, gone wrong, we almost died!?): 5/5, by the Ice-Cream people so I expected great sound design and voice acting and said expectations were met tbh, yes god love the drama, ocean depths are inherently scary to me so this is top tier horror, season one was chef’s kiss beautiful and I heard season 2 is coming so I’ll be waiting eagerly for that

Within the Wires (season 1 is relaxation cassette tapes from another world, season 2 is a guided museum tour I think): also by the WTNV people, interesting so far, the plot that unfolded in the first season was cool to watch as it played out, but also I am so sad. I like it so far

Rabbits (girl goes searching for her friend who disappeared because of this mysterious Rabbits game): feels like a really slow start after a few episodes, I kinda wanna get to more action soon please

Wake of Corrosion (apocalypse where characters are trying to find other survivors and also answers): mild shrug, not sure what to make of it just yet. Only like 2 episodes in so I think I need to give it a bit

Ars Paradoxica (scientist accidentally invents time travel and is thrown back to the 1940s): pretty interesting so far, science is fun 

Spoiler comment for Cascadia under the cut bc it's the one I just finished and I have Thoughts

As much as I enjoyed Cascadia, when I think about the expedition for more than 2 seconds I get confused. Not the whole alien thing, that’s fine, it’s Badger and Maria and their ulterior motives. Why in the world did Badger spend millions of dollars to make a submarine that’s faulty on purpose? And there was so much media coverage around it so the second something went wrong reporters were practically beating him over the head with microphones, so why risk so much bad press? Plus sacrificing three other talented divers who trusted him with their lives??? That’s the most confusing to me. There’s no way Badger foresaw them getting attacked underwater and losing Declan alone, so he must have been fully prepared to lose captain AND crew. Holden said that he saw Badger as a father, and yet he chose Holden to die? He said he handpicked them, so what did Holden, Alia, or Iris ever do to him to deserve being sent on a suicide mission? Doing all this just to get rid of Declan and be with Maria doesn’t feel right. Feels like there should be something more there. Tldr: surely Badger had another reason for conducting the suicide mission, right? Also since season 2 starts with Lila all grown up, a diver just like her father, I wanna know her opinions of her mother and of Badger. Did she learn about her mother’s betrayal? Is Badger still involved in funding deep sea diving or did the FBI take him out of that? Omg who’s the father of her little sibling…I’m so curious…

62. One criticism of Moishe I totally agree with is how horrible it was for him to take back the apartment. His grandchildren were growing up in that apartment. Their safety and security should have come first. Not that Midge didn’t have anywhere to take them, Abe and Rose’s place is perfectly fine, and they spend plenty of time in Queens, once the Maisels move, but still. Those kids didn’t desserve to be jerked around that way, no matter how Midge and Joel (mostly Joel) were acting.

But again, it’s an interesting contrast between Lenny doing some light emotional lifting for Midge (The cab, the sympathy over her busted marriage, the joint, the parting joke to make her laugh) and Joel (letting Midge take care of him as usual).

123. I love this episode. It is an al-time favorite. It establishes Midge and Lenny as friends with a new, but solid bond. It has some great Susie moments, and a great Midge set. Great stuff with Abe and Rose and Abe and Moishe. It’s so solid. I think it might be my favorite season 1 episode. <3
