You should never have shame about your academic journey. It's a journey. You're growing and learning. You're going to face challenges alone for one of the first times in your life. Shit's hard. It's ok to struggle.

I haven't had a pretty journey at all. I'm graduating with a bachelor's degree at 25. I've been in college nonstop since I was 18. I've failed a lot of classes and had to go part time. So many things have happened. But I will have the degree. And that degree is worth the exact same as someone who got it in 3 years. The knowledge I have is mine to keep.

How I got here doesn't matter. I'm here. I am going to graduate in a few months. I have won this chapter of my life. And to those who try to shame me for how I got here and how long it took, I pray that you never experience the things I have that have made it take long. May you live a life of comfort and luxury and have hands soft as silk until you die. And hopefully I will get the same grace from the universe eventually.

2024.04.10 | Day 81/100 days of productivity

Slept in today and that extra sleep seems to have made all the difference to my mood and energy levels (who knew!). I'm hoping to get done with my decision analysis final essay either today or tomorrow so I can edit and move on to my research proposal for qualitative methods (and eventually get back to the research - which I actually enjoy (no offence to my professors)).

Today's goals:

Drink water (2/3)

Finish readings for tomorrow

Finish first draft of decision analysis final essay

Have a good formal dinner :)

Do at least 1 load of laundry

Get enough sleep

spring break came and went in the blink of an eye, but it was lots of fun! met up with friends from HS, went to disneyland, and spent time with my family. I also still did some work over break that was time sensitive, but I can't really complain :)

its officially past the halfway point of the semester and i can see the finish line. ahhhh. i also realize i need to start studying more for my classes because things are getting more complex... BUT WE WILL SURVIVE

14.03.2024, thursday - happy pi day friends!

two days in a row, who is she?

i had a great class today, we spent discussing the paper i have read yesterday and it was a big relief that even the professor admitted it was a hard article to understand. sometimes i feel like i am not smart enough to get a master’s degree because of such papers, it sucks! i believe it is called “imposter syndrome”. anyway.

it was also a great day because i checked my bacteria (that are still very much in need of incubation, 5 days of growth pffff) and there was no contamination we suspected before, yay!

today’s goals:

1. reading the new article which will be presented by another classmate next week and writing the audience report

2. reviewing proteomics class

3. doing more literature research about MALDI-TOF for bacterial identification

Life update:

Hello! I took a quick break from Tumblr to focus on some big life changes. Starting off with college graduation to moving back in with my parents for the summer to a trip to the mountains with some friends! All that being said, I officially have graduated with Bachelors of Science in Accounting! But just because my official schooling is over doesn’t mean I’m done studying. Starting on Tuesday I’ll begin studying for the possibly the biggest exam of life, the certified public accountant’s exam or the CPA. It’s four parts and I’m hoping to take the first part at the end of June. I’m not expecting to pass all four parts this summer but my goal is to pass two this summer, one this fall, and one next summer. Which means I’ve got a lot more studying left in me! :)

Emailing your professors when you need to ask them something, be it deadline extensions, recommendations, accepting research proposals, etc. anything needing some sort of approval is just such a traumatizing experience?? It's the "worse she can say is no" meme but like it literally is THE WORST though??? I would just DIE!

Well, this has been an exciting week! Been meeting with people in Iceland to discuss my thesis and get some advice and perspectives.

Today, I got to look at some manuscripts up close and personal, which was a very unique experience and will help with a project I’m working on.

All in all, this has been a fantastic and beautiful trip and I’m already excited to go back!

2024.02.29 | Day 40/100 days of productivity

Happy leap day!! My day is pretty calm, with an NVIVO workshop in my class this afternoon (which I think I may already know most of) and otherwise just grinding away to get my communicable disease term paper drafted. I don't have any classes tomorrow so I'll just push all my readings for next week until then. After this term paper, the last big assignment I hjave this semester is my thesis proposal, so I should be able to get back into doing more of my research shortly.

conference is in a few days and i'm over the MOOON, ugh i can't wait to meet so many cool people and learn all the cool things. but i'm not looking forward to (probably) falling behind academically.

telling you, the day i don't have to be in classes anymore will be my saving grace

im still working on the same tasks, my sickness has become more impeding than anticipated

i really really don't like reading cell articles and this one is not an exception whatsoever, hopefully i can finish on time and present it

Yesterday I watched Cartoon Saloon’s short “Screecher’s Reach”, and thought Daal’s hair was almost exactly like how I envision Mathilde Lachance’s hair, so I decided to try and draw her. Today I stopped cleaning up the sketch after about an hour because I got bored, so it’s going here.
