Symmetry: The beauty of Mathematics
Listen, symmetry isn’t just aesthetic. It’s the backbone of mathematics, the reason your equations behave, and honestly, the only thing keeping some functions from spiraling into utter chaos. And here’s the truth: symmetry isn’t just about looking pretty; it’s about mathematical harmony, balance, and the deeply satisfying moment when everything aligns perfectly, just as it should.

3. Group Theory Symmetry : the reason your Rubik's Cube works and why physicists don’t spiral into existential despair when studying quantum particles.
Cyclic groups, Dihedral groups and Lie groups
4. Polar Coordinates—aka the Art Students of Math
Polar graphs SCREAM symmetry. Roses? Circles? LEMNISCATES?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the bottom line : Symmetry is how we recognize order in chaos. And symmetry isn’t just confined to math. You see it in biology (DNA), art (da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man), and even in the way we naturally find faces with symmetry more attractive. It's everywhere, from the humble parabola to the complex eigenfunctions of quantum systems. So next time you plot a graph, take a second to appreciate the sheer elegance of its symmetry. Or lack of symmetry—because asymmetry can be just as hot.

I wonder if the number of lives a player on the realm has corresponds to the way corruption effects them?
we only have 3 case studies but going off of that -- Pangi, who got nulled with 2 lives, came back with no personality or memory changes, but allegedly is displaying some physical changes -- Ros, who had 1 life when she got nulled, came back without memories and personality changes but with no visible signs of corruption (obviously she's already ourple but. aside from the paleness theres no noticeable change) -- Pili, who died fully (and was presumably also sent to the null?), came back with both physical (madness induced corruption) and personality changes, as well as memory loss. Therefore maybe a player's lives correspond to how deeply the madness effects them? and maybe that's tied to the keeper's control over giving and taking lives? (i.e. giving Ros a life in the past)
also it should maybe be noted that Pili has complete amnesia, Ros has retrograde amnesia but only for things before the null and not the null itself, and Pangi seems to have no amnesia?

I'm starting to think that if you're good at math and you like the way math makes sense and it doesn't crush your soul to learn it, you might should maybe probably see how far you can get learning math and see if you can do a career with it.
If you'd told me ten years ago as senior in college (hey what the fuck) that one day I would be sitting at my desk at home furiously scribbling equations and getting dopamine from correctly solving them - and not only that, but not being frustrated by the little mistakes but just learning to watch out for them...
I feel like the standard finish there is "I would've laughed at you." but like. I had such a good college algebra teacher that I was in fact briefly a math major. I was inspired. It all made sense. But I was at college on a full ride scholarship and if I made below a B in any class, I would be put on probation and if it happened again I would lose that scholarship.
Is it any fucking wonder that I hedged my bets and stuck with English? It's the same reason I stopped learning German even though I didn't mind the idea of retaking a class to be sure I understood it. I was somewhat trapped and afraid to use my one single second chance. And now I'm freshly 31 looking back and going... Okay but I CAN do this. I've always been able to do this. I just have lived my life for so long by the belief that I am not allowed to fail, ever, and that doing so will be catastrophic - something that has in fact been reinforced through things like conditional scholarships and lifelong anxiety that if I am not the best and if I am not intelligent then I am nothing, because it's the only thing people praised me for (til I left school and found out that among people in the real world, outside of academia, just being a decent human is pretty great actually).
So I'm on Khan academy and I walked it all the way back to college algebra so I can refresh what I remember, and I want to see how far I can go on my own time and how confident I am that I could in fact go into a science (I'm thinking meteorology or geology) and handle the math that comes with that. It's all just formulas. If there is one thing I'm good at, it's memorization. And I did not fully appreciate in school how often math comes with its own proofing system. The Adhd tells me I don't need to check my work - it has always been an issue. But the fact that I can is huge, actually.
Formulas are actually how I look at the world. Essays were easy because each type followed a formula. All you had to do was plug in examples to prove your conclusions. Even fanfiction tropes are, almost by definition, formulaic. The problem is that this thinking won't get you very far interpersonally/outside of math. But like... If there's a way this thinking COULD get me far, then why not? Why not at least try?
I think senior me would be glad to hear we're giving it a go again in a world and a headspace where we get to set our own pace and learn for fun, with the prospect of going back to school and taking whatever time we need. Failure is okay, actually. Taking longer to achieve a degree, making school fit around your life instead of the other way around is just fine. The time will pass anyway.

Auto Racing Analytics is my new favorite account, because who doesn't love a spider graph?? I love a spider graph:
Tumblr media
I initially found this account through a post that had that blue line and was like, "guess whose stats these are." And I was immediately like, that is the most 5-coded blue line. Operating at such a high level! So well-rounded! Except for the giant chomp taken out of it where DNFs and crash avoidance are concerned, hahaha...ha!
Going into Indy, I was talking to @the-kings-tail-fin about how, on any given day, the 5 could not be trusted in the way that the 9 could, and that the 24 was seasonally trustworthy (one of those seasons not being summer). I'd wanted to make a post about my thoughts on Kyle Larson's driving style, but chickened out of it because it's not as though I had any actual data aside from anecdotal evidence of having watched more of his Cup races than I haven't. But look, a spider graph! That affirms my personal impressions!
So let's talk about Kyle Larson and the 5. Kyle Larson is known for being good, which in racing generally means fast. HMS can put together some fast cars. But the fastest car isn't always the winning car. So what've we got? Here are my novice takes:
fast -- yes
loose -- he prefers a loose racecar (as opposed to tight)--understeer in the corners, where the back tends to swing out. If you can control it, you can find speed this way. Con? The if, I guess. And tire management, because a tire that's sliding isn't rolling.
aggressive -- Larson's self-descriptor, which in his context means shoving a car in places it does not seem like a car can fit (and often finding that it does not, in fact, fit there).
Case in point:
Tumblr media
That was re: late braking/brake lockup, but when other cars are involved, aggression looks like shoving a car in places that dare the other guy to wreck them both or lift. This is why the "terminal avoidance" and "crash avoidance" stats take such a nosedive--because sometimes when you're playing with fire like that, you mess up. Or the other guy doesn't lift. But it makes for fantastic spectating, especially when coupled with the daring required to pass and come up the field (when you have the speed to do so). That kind of run can also be hard on tires, as well as fuel, though fuel is not typically as big a storyline as it has been in 2024. And I will say that KL has gotten a lot better at tire management than he has been in the past.
creative -- Adaptability to an ever-changing track and, again, the daring to try new lines and search around for whatever works, which Jeff Gordon describes as a dirt race thing, in that it's the bread and butter of that form of racing, given that a dirt track is different every lap.
clean -- It doesn't seem like "clean" and "aggressive" would go hand in hand, since being aggressive can result in wrecks and also means you're a pain in the bum to anyone you're racing, but there's lots of flavors to "aggressive" and KL is not a "rattle his cage" kind of guy. Which isn't to say the racing won't get phyisical--it just probably won't be retaliatory.
For example, my biggest kink is Kyle Larson getting eaten alive by JGR, and KyBu and Denny Hamlin have, historically, done this a lot, because their form of aggression is a lot more toothy, if you will. But KL's bit back sometimes, too. (MTJ has gotten in on this action by beating KL on restarts for years straight. But as you'll see in the graph, restarts have improved!)
I'll also note that I've definitely seen KL punt a backrunner out of his way, so he's not above such things entirely. But he's a terrible person to pick a fight with outside of the car, because he won't fight back.
--
He's just great to watch, on TV and live. Even if this style of racing is exceptionally make-or-break in a playoffs format, because when it's good it's so, so good and when it's bad it's real bad. But such are the tradeoffs, and it's really cool to look back and recognize the level of excellence that's happening in the car.
I'll caveat that by saying that I've watched Kyle Larson miss pit road in an Xfinity race because he... forgot?? to pay attention??? and have seen him wheel hop his way around a road course and tear the tires of a racecar overdriving it and push extremely badly in the draft and whiff a restart to the point of no return, and that realistically I've probably also seen him do... most of those things... in 2024, too... I saw someone say once that for someone so talented KL sure does a lot of things that are incredibly, gobsmackingly dumb, and I probably wouldn't argue against that.

Hello! I just completed the 5some scene witb Halsin and Astarion and I dont really have anyone to comment this with I hope you dont mind me dropping here real quick to say [SPOILERS]
So... he just dissociates no matter what? I completed Astarion's quest and I could swear that meant he wouldnt dissociate in the scene. But I think what bothers me the most isnt even the dissociating itself but the lack of response from the Player Character. I just LET him?? I dont comfort him, I dont stop the whole thing in its tracks??
And its the only way to get Halsin's backstory?? Am I doing something wrong? I feel so conflicted about the whole thing. Opinions? Thanks for reading this far if you have, sorry for any inconvenience!
I don't claim to be the best source on Astarion lore or on his storyline consistencies/inconsistencies since we're like a bitter divorced couple, I can't talk about him without getting slightly annoyed. But,
I got that exact same scene (5some) after Astarion's story conclusion. To me it makes sense that he's still distant - we fixed his Cazador situation but we didnt fix his sexual abuse issue because he never brought up the trauma. I'm assuming you didnt romance Astarion ang got this scene? For me, a non-Astarionmancer it made sense, since he never told me about his intimacy issues in the first place. But if that happened to you, and you romanced him, then I can still understand him being distant in that moment. He's not that into sex with other people and you just asked him to perform in front of 4 others. I can see how he would default to an auto-pilot. But that's assuming you did romance him. If you didn't then there's not much to be surprised about. He's tired of performing seduction.
To me, it's not that big of a deal that the PlayerCharacter doesn't respond to catching Astarion drift away. Without romancing him and learning about his baggage PC at best can only assume that Astarion is not into sex due to his past of sleeping with his victims and that possibly bringing up bad memories. Since the narraror line about him being distant during the encounter was only a brief mention (narrator mentions PC and Astarion catching eyes for a moment, any further descriptions of his performative behaviour are a general description of the scene since nothing is visible, not necessarly describing what the PC is seeing).
What! I! Fully! Agree! With! You! Is how Halsin's mega traumatic backstory is only ever accessible through a hidden option (i wouldn't even call it a mission, just a random NPC conversation) in Act 3. That conversation could have been naturally implemented into the (currently bare-bone) Halsin romance route. This is why I'm still screaming about letting the players have access to Halsin as a companion in Act 1 already, so that he can go with the PC to the Underdark. That could lead to him having some flashbacks to his time there, and perhaps slipping in some titbits during idk the exploration of the wizard tower in the underdark and him seeing the chain mounted to a wall and that bringing up some nasty memories?? Like the story writes itself, it's all there but I'm guessing the devs had better things to do then flesh out their fanservice and fan demands. Like adding Halsin as a romance options SHOULD HAVE BEEN a post release thing !!!
My opinions are more or less summed up here. It's ass that an abuse victim such as Astarion gets all the special treatment and a catharsis while Halsin, who also went through a traumatic experience doesn't. He actually laughs it off. But that's okay, people cope differently. So why not have us explore his backstory more? Well, it's crunch of course. The devs had no time to put love and care into Halsin even tho him being a romance option/companion (so those conversations about his past wouldn't come up) wasn't even on their initial goal list, just something a few discord people suggested.
I feel like the writers had too much on their plates and too little time to make sure inconsistencies in character motivations/ reactions, backstories don't occur. But we should all be happy Astarion got all the attention he deserved. Oh, you're saying there are other companions in this game too? Since when?

Tumblr media
Full Legal Name code • hi
#speculation nation#title 'code' email is just 'hi'. with the .c file attached of course#honestly i had a very productive day in lab today. i got the core structure of the program down and made sure it all worked#testing it with One of the sorting algorithms. and it worked!!#the lab is to code functions for different kinds of sorts. like bubble sort selection sort and uhh. some other shit idr rn#and have the functions take timestamps from before and after they run the sorts to calculate the elapsed time#and we have to run this for array sizes of like. 10 50 500 etc etc up to like 50000 or smth? if i remember right.#and then once all that's done we take the output and graph the time elapsed for each type of sort/search per array sizes#so today at lab i made the random array generator function. a swap function. the execution function. bubble sort. and main.#main calls the execution function passing in the array sizes. execution(10); execution(50); etc#execution defines the array of that size. then calls the random number generator to populate the array. then passes it to the sort functions#tested with my one bubble sort function. which finished in like 0.00003 seconds or smth for array size 10#BUT taking the time stamps was tricky. there are a lot of ways to do that. and time(); in c is in full seconds#i ended up asking the TA if he had a recommendation for what to use bc theres a LOT of time functions out there#and full seconds isnt precise enough for this purpose. & he recommended clock()!!#records number of clock ticks which is NOT the same as seconds. but when u divide it by uh. forgetting it rn but it's a constant#that will turn it into actual seconds. clock tics per sec?? smth like that.#so anyways very productive 👍 i just need to set main up to call execution function for all the different array sizes#and then write all the functions for the different sorts/searches. but i have the core structure down with the bubble sort function#(specifically with the time stamps and the print function after) that i will copy-paste for all the other functions#and then inside them i put the basic code. none of it's complicated. all can be found on the internet easy.#SO!!!!! honestly i think itd take me less than an hour to finish. tho plotting out that graph is going to be annoying#something like 6 sizes per 5 sort/search functions. painstakingly copy pasting each one into excel or smth lol#but yea im content with how much ive gotten done. yippee!!!!#now i just need to finish my web programming lab before sunday night. blehhhhh

Romance & Relationship Headcanons
3. has your muse been mainly attracted to men, women, non-binary people, another identity not specified, or an even split (between two, many, or all of the options specified)?
Uhm... just to preface: I don't really think Chiyori distinguishes between gender like that. She doesn't care if a person identifies as man or woman, or whatever. As long as she feels safe around them, and theyre genuienly nice and fun to be around, and are able to take decently care of themselves, she's not going to be picky.
Though, to answer the question using normative gender terms: So far, Chiyori has mostly been attracted to people identifying as men, but she's also had fleeting crushes on women in the past. To be honest though, some women could make it to the list very soon!
But basically, gender is not an important factor for Chiyori to be attracted to someone. In fact, in her world it's not a factor at all, because a human is a human, you know? What matters to her is whether or not that person is nice. Most likely Chiyori would just reciprocate whatever efforts are made towards her.
4. does your muse find any specific features particularly attractive?
In terms of physical attributes, probably hands and forearms, because those would be the main body parts someone would use to display their affections towards her. She'd likely observe the manner of which that person uses their hands. Are they gentle, are they rough? Are their movements attentive, playful, unpredictable? A mix? Depending?
For personal traits, Chiyori is attracted to people able to display mastery of gentle assertiveness. While capable of handling herself most of the time, Chiyori definitely do experience moments of doubt, so she’d need someone able to both ground and believe in her. Someone to give her a gentle nudge forward when they notice that she's about to get lost in her own head.
5. what is your muse's ideal first date?
Mhmm… for Chiyori, it’s more about the execution, I think. As long as it's an activity that doesn’t hinder the opportunity to start interesting conversations, or prevent her from randomly share what's on her mind, then it should be good.
For example bungee jumping, or swimming with sharks would be too wild, lol, and going to the cinema is just awkward, because they wouldn't be able to talk during the movies.
Though, depending on her mood, and the other person, a first date at a café/restaurant can be just as enjoyable as a date at an amusement park, or an aquarium. Basically, something relatively chill and low-profile.
13. what traits does your muse value in a romantic partner?
Open-mindedness, attentiveness and playfulness. Maybe someone willing to challenge her and indulge her in her curiosities.
16. what is/are your muse's love language(s)?
Chiyori values quality time. Everything else shares a solid second place spot.
