in the realm of like, rich kid problems, I want to someday read/write a fic where Nightwing is slowly establishing himself as a full-fledged JL member and everyone is relieved because finally, there's a nice Bat on the Watchtower who doesn't just shoot down their plans and deny their mission requests. but. while Nightwing is kind, and polite, and charming in all the ways the Bat isn't, he's still Dick Grayson. and Dick Grayson grew up as a very rich kid's suddenly very rich kid, which is to say while Bruce might not take it personally, Dick has been fending off people almost his entire life who were trying to use him for his Dad's money. which is to say, I think once Nightwing is on board and the relationship between him and Batman is at least somewhat well-known, there is suddenly a rush of younger, less-experienced members trying to take advantage of Nightwing, mistaking that kindness and openness for willingness to either voluntarily, or involuntarily, infringe upon and cross Batman's clear-cut boundaries. bribing Dick for a better monitor shift with Batman is one thing (it doesn't really work, Dick can't bribe Bruce with much as it is) but trying to convince Nightwing to lie to Batman? to go against him? his dad? the man who pulled him up when he had nothing and gave him meaning again? that man?? and then comes the inevitable, chilling realization, that while Nightwing might wear a different mask, might wear an open smile on the Watchtower and with friends off-shift, there are some lines he won't cross, same as Bruce. he won't, sure as the sun rises and the rot rolls off the Gotham Harbor in the morning.

Bruce can probably cry on command. I feel it in my bones that that's true. He's such a good actor, there's no way he didn't learn how to turn on the waterworks whenever he deems it necessary.

The thing is that Bruce only rarely deems it necessary tho, like probably less than once a year and never as Batman. But when he does oh boy.

Do you know the backlash you'd get for making Brucie, the beloved and golden hearted Prince of Gotham cry? He'll shed a singular tear and all of the sudden you're the social pariah. No matter how high in society you are, you'll loose all your social standing. No more invitations to galas, charities or other events. No one wants to go to whatever you celebrate and people are crossing the street when they see you.

Lex pissed off Clark at an event and to cheer him up Bruce just talks to the other billionaire before tearing up and blinking away tears when Lex says something only mildly offensive. It's caught on camera. It's reported on trashy magazines everywhere. Lex lost any chances to establish a deal in Gotham's underworld bc he ALMOST made Brucie cry. Clark is wheezing while clutching the papers and calls Bruce 'evil in the best way'.

The only thing worse than making Bruce fake cry is to actually bring him to tears. Because then it's not just the common Gothamites that are after you but his family too.

Like, there's some guy in the WE building ranting how Bruce is a disappointment to everything his parents have established and that the only thing good about Crime Alley was that it spared Martha and Thomas from seeing what their son has become.

Bruce, honestly agrees with him, his self loathing ass really would think that and do nothing but stare at the guy cussing him out. The guy's not physically violent, just loud and angry. It's only when he notices his cheeks are wet that he had started crying, unplanned. In public. It's honestly not much too, just a few stay tears silently dripping down his cheeks.

Bruce doesn't want to further show this vulnerable side of him tho and just wipes them away and calls security. He doesn't want to make it a big deal but unfortunately everyone else thinks otherwise.

The man is roughly escorted out of the building thrown outside with far too much force and Bruce never sees him again. He thinks it's bc he moved away due to the typical protecting-Brucie-backlash. It's actually due to the entire city shunning the guy, Gothamites are not crossing the street anymore but starting lecturing the man about all of Bruces charity and relieve efforts, if they aren't already pelting him with rotten food. The worse of them all are his kids tho: They've tracked the guy, stalked him, messed with his socials and then threatened him with increasingly violence in and out of costume until he fled.
