p. hayate x gn!reader g. fluff n. omg i found this at the bottom of my drafts, it’s spring now but i hope you’ll still enjoy this anon

it's a bitterly cold winter evening, and you're walking home from work, bundled up in your warmest coat and gloves. the wind is hurting your cheeks, and you can feel the cold weather through your shoes. you shiver involuntarily as you slowly walk down the street.

as you turn a corner, you suddenly see a figure approaching you. it's hayate, your friend from school. he's wearing a thick coat and a beanie, and he looks like he's been out in the cold for a while.

"hey, what are you doing out here?" he asks with a small smile on his face.

"just walking home," you reply through chattering teeth. "i'm almost there, don't worry."

hayate laughs and shakes his head. "no way, you're going to freeze to death out here. let’s go into this café.”

you hesitate for a moment, but the thought of stopping for a moment is too tempting. "okay, let’s go." you say, following him into the cafe.

as you take a seat, hayate starts to chat about the dance club he is in. you can't help but smile at his enthusiasm.

“we’d like two hot cocoa, please." he says casually, before turning back to you. you don’t even get a chance to tell him that you don’t want anything.

“i will pay for it, it’s no big deal.” hayate tells you when he sees the look on your face. you nod gratefully, sinking into the soft cushions of the chair.

a few minutes later, the waiter comes back with two mugs of steaming cocoa.

"here you go," hayate says, handing one to you. "drink up before it gets cold."

“it’s super hot,” you scrunch your face at the temperature. hayate chuckles, and apologises for making you drink it immediately.

after a little bit of chatting, hayate looks outside of the window. the sun is beginning to set and the street lights are on.

"hey, it's getting late," hayate says, glancing at the clock. "you should probably head back before it gets too late."

you nod, realizing that you've lost track of time. "yeah, i should. thanks again, hayate."

"it’s no problem" he says, standing up as well. "get inside soon before you freeze to death out there."

you laugh, feeling a warmth in your heart that has nothing to do with the hot cocoa. as you step out into the cold night once again, you know that you'll always remember this winter evening with hayate.

update: there's not enough hikaru ff and im currently cheating on gaku so I think I'll make the smau with hikaru x reader instead of gaku x reader <33 hikaru, gaku and hayate will all be involved tho!!!

dog - for the single word drabble prompt!

"A drabble is 100 words, a drabble is a hundred words" I chant to myself as I go over 500.

Thank you so much though!! As soon as I saw it I knew exactly what old scene to finally write that's been in my head since grinding Holminster Switch and getting the Black Hayate. 😂

"Can't imagine why you'd want to come back here already." Ardbert's voice emerged from the silence, a frown etched into his features as he surveyed the smoldering ruins of Holminster Switch. It was a town of ghosts now, naught but a few embers still glistening under the blanket of night. 

She can never quite know when her favorite ghost is going to chime in, but it is a surprise tonight. 

"I'm not sure, either." She replied, nudging over a broken piece of fence before continuing along the winding road. "There's so little civilization left here, I suppose I just..." Lips pursed, her brow furrowed as her gaze swept over the wreckage. "Wanted to get an idea of what it was like. Without all the fighting and screaming." 

Ardbert said nothing, but his silence was so heavy it could have been worth a thousand words. 

What broke the silence was not either of their voices but instead a tiny, distinct whimpering. Frowning, Ahru’s hand went for the hilt of her rapier, gaze scanning around her. 

“…Do sineaters typically make sounds like that?” She asked in a whisper. 

“Far be it from me to assume they couldn’t… But not any that I’m aware of.” 

The sound came again, this time accompanied by the shifting of shadows from beneath one of the half-toppled buildings. Her fingers gripped the handle as her eyes made out the form of-

Oh. A dog. A puppy, to be exact; black and white with the cutest ears and -less cute- a limp in its front paw. It gave a pathetic little wag of it’s tail, clearly exhausted but happy to see people. 

“Aww, you poor thing!” Ahru cooed, taking only a few steps forward before crouching down with her hands held out - she didn’t want to scare it. “Come here, sweetie.”

It’s tail wagged again and it limped forward, sniffing at her fingertips and licking them feebly. Grabbing some dried meat from her satchel she held it out to him and he ate it up eagerly, visibly perking up. 

“Can’t believe the little guy survived all that.” Ardbert mused, crouching down beside her. As calm and stoic as he acted, she was pretty sure from the smile on his face and the glint in his eye he very much wanted to scoop the creature up and give it a good thorough petting.

“You must be pretty clever, huh?” She asked to a response of eager yips. After a testing scratch behind his ears, she gingerly touched her hand to his injured leg, infusing it with healing magicks. Fortunately the wound wasn’t too bad, and within seconds he was bouncing around, yipping and wagging his tail like wild, licking at her hands. 

“Doesn’t look like he has a collar…”Ardbert murmured, clearly far more interested than she imagined he’d ever admit to. “He’ll need a name.”

Just as amusing was the fact they were, despite saying nothing of it, on the same page. Evidently being a Warrior of Light also indicated a habit of picking up strays, at least where they were concerned. Laughing she gave the dog ‘a good thorough petting’, before plucking him up into her arms. 

“I’ve got it. I’ll call you Ardbert!”

“What?”

The pup yipped and howled, wiggling in her arms as its tail practically spun in happy circles. 

“See? He likes it!”

Session 84: Call Lightning

Why was it ALWAYS the FUCKING HUMAN FACED DOGS.

They’d spotted a pack of them attacking a caravan behind them, and while Hayate had the initial impulse to just... Leave them...

That wasn’t an option. An agreement to help them, shots fired, attracting their attention, and they’d booked it on their bikes to the top of the mountain, setting up a near barricade to prepare for the oncoming hoard.

He was sick of these fucking things... The baying and howling of the Yeth Hounds grew louder and louder, spells and guns being readied.

Glancing up at the rolling blue and red stormy sky, Hayate felt a spark in his chest as the wind began to pick up. Putting his shotgun away, he straightened up, closing his eyes, one hand held in front of his face, two fingers extended, the other held in front of his chest as he felt more carefully for that spark.

Something primeval and ancient coiling its way round.

Guns clicking in preparation to fire.

Ba-dum. A sensation both familiar, and a stranger.

Oriz and Kirin’s vocal components entering the air as they readied their magic.

Ba-dum. Ba-dum. A breath of magic infused into his very blood resonating with that spark, once, twice, until the spark began to match his heartbeat.

The Yeth Hounds grew louder still, their voices unholy wails and screams of the demon scouts.

Ba-dum. Ba-dum. Ba-dum.

Lightning crackled, sparkling to life in time with his heartbeat, rolling around his fingers, the aberrant sky above starting to pulse in response, the rolling clouds beginning to twist and warp with static.

A voice of rolling thunder in his mind, in his soul, chuckling lowly “What spirit, Little Storm,”

Hayate scarcely had a moment to process what, or who, that was before the baying was upon them.

His eyes snapped open, lightning sparking from his pupils as he fell into a set of motions he didn’t remember ever being taught, drawing his fingers through the air, static filling the space around him.

“Shinu.” He spoke one word, lifting his fingers to the sky, lightning arcing up, the sky erupting into sparks and flashes of light, illuminating the swarm of Yeth Hounds flying in.

And in the blink of an eye later the sky crashed down with a thunderous roar as the shape of Ryuu took form in the clouds, opening his maw with lightning blazing from his throat into the bodies of over half of the approaching horrors, those struck first dropping from the sky like flies into smouldering, wailing heaps.

Hayate’s breath had been held until then, leaving him in an exhausted gasp as fatigue snapped into his muscles. But they weren’t done yet.

Guns went off, spells flew into the air, and swords gleamed as they launched forward to finish the stragglers off.

Anyways... I guess it depends on what kind of hacker Daiji is? If he's one of those ethical hackers who just exposes corrupt politicians and/or steals from sketchy businessmen to give the money to the people they scammed... he'll just kiss his forehead and let him be gay and do crimes then fuck him into the mattress because he finds Daiji taking down criminals so hot lol

If it's the not-ethical hacker though... I guess he'd be devoting his life to changing Daiji for the better... again

autumn has its ups and downs, and today was one of those bad days. the sun that had shone brightly in the morning was nowhere to be seen right now.

you worriedly look outside, grey clouds cover the sky outside. the weather app on your phone predicts no rain, but you, being unprepared for cold weather, are not relieved by this news.

your t-shirt that seemed like the perfect clothing when you stepped out of the house provided no protection for the cold autumn weather.

of course, there is always a solution. hayate, who always dresses extra warm because his mom tells him to.

not to mention your big crush on him, it was the perfect plan.

right when the bell rings, signalling your end of the day, you approach hayate. he's happily conversing with his friend behind him.

"oh, hey y/n," he greets you. his friend tells him he needs to leave and hayate waves him goodbye.

"hayate, it is super cold outside," you begin, "and i don't have anything except this with me." you point at your t-shirt.

he laughs, "you're always so smart when it comes to dressing for the weather."

you roll your eyes at his teasing, "at least i wasn't sweating in first period."

"at least i'm not the one going home while freezing in a t-shirt. what do you want me to do about it?"

"sharing is caring, give me the hoodie," the dark blue hoodie he has been wearing all day was your target.

he looks hesitant but hands you his hoodie after you shoot him a smile. how could he refuse?

now, you are walking home, hayate walking next to you. he made sure to walk you home too, "in case you're still cold." he had said.

hayate is wearing his jacket and holds his bike next to him as he peacefully walks next to you.

"hayate," you say, "you didn't have to walk me home you know, it's not that cold."

"it was getting late anyway, now that the sun sets earlier it'll be dark soon. it's too dangerous."

you avoid eye contact with him when he talks to you. this was definitely not helping you get over your crush on him.

"thank you, that's very kind of you."

"of course i'm kind, whose hoodie are you wearing right now?" he scoffs. you softly hit his shoulder.

"that's why i like you," you happily beam. you're unaware of the fact that it kind of sounds like a confession.

you suddenly stop walking, and turn to hayate. had he noticed how suspicious that had sounded?

"you know, you're too obvious when it comes to crushes." he begins, "did you really think you were slick with staring at me?"

your heart thumps in your chest. was this what rejection felt like? you hadn't mentally prepared for this moment yet.

"don't look so sad, i'm not done yet." he says, slightly panicked, "i like you too."

"hayate, that was the worst way to tell someone you like them back!" you exclaim out of relief. "i was about to cry!"

he laughs loudly, "you should've seen the look on your face!"

you begin to speed up, leaving hayate behind.

"wait up! i'm sorry! wait!"

the bickering and teasing didn't stop until you got home. hayate told you to keep the hoodie as a reminder of today, and you happily danced in your room after you made sure he left.
