Because of that dream I had (mentioned in this post), I headcanon that og!Cale's only fear that applies to himself are teachers. All his other fears implies other people being the one who suffers, but he's deeply scared of teachers.
He's teacher-phobic like some people are clown-phobic and like some little animals are afraid of humans. (Or I to spiders)
In my mind, that's the actual reason he abandoned his studies. He had a whole conversation prepared to convince his father that he could do self-study and have Ron or Hans test him every some months. He was so ready to have to present a whole list of arguments when he ditched his classes.
Instead, Deruth just agreed to it almost immediately. Cale was so shocked that he forgot to tell him about the self-study part.
A few days later, he heard some people talk about how "the young master's behaviour got worse and worse" and how "he refused to have any education at all". Then they mentioned how Bassen was so dedicated in comparison.
So he decided that this misunderstanding was quite useful and let it be.
Anyways, I headcanon this so strongly that sometimes I forget it's not canon.
Everytime I read a highschool AU where og!Cale is skipping classes, I'm like "yeah, I would do that too if I were him". Then I remember that that's not canon, not even in the fic. He's just keeping with his "trashy" persona.
(Although, if the fic doesn't contradict it, sometimes I keep going with my reason instead).

I do think that referring to Essek as irredeemable for regretting his actions only because he was caught and risked losing his friends is both kind of reductive to him as a character and a misunderstanding of the concept of redemption arcs in media.
A person generally isn't changed because you sit them down and hand them a bunch of political theory to read. They change because their circumstances and relationships do. It's like that guy who was deradicalized because he got a bunch of shrimp and started to care for them. It’s our relationships that change us, because they give us not a logical but an emotional reason to do so.
Caleb explicitly says "these people will change you" (or something along that line; I don’t remember the exact quote). Essek, before the m9, didn’t genuinely care about anyone. The people who would die if a war started because of his actions were irrelevant and abstract to him. Caleb, similarly, also started c2 not really caring about others. He had no interest in taking on Ikithon or the Assembly to save others from going through what he did, too preoccupied with his own trauma and his own goals to care. In that sense, he started the campaign in a similar place as Essek post ep. 97: regretful, but too busy wallowing in his own self-loathing to productively do anything to prevent future harm due to his previous actions.
Being with the m9, being reminded of the importance of other people and realizing that they’re capable of caring for them, is what changes Caleb and Essek both. Of course Essek starts out more concerned with losing the nein than with strangers killed in a war. They’re his starting step, the opening through which he realizes that the people hurt by his actions are real, that he cares, that he has the ability to, if not undo his harm, help stop furthering of it.

had a dream that I escaped a resident evil research lab and my escape uber driver was Wesker, who kept fully turning his head to glare at me instead of looking at the road
I think he wanted to kill us both

I simply do not vibe with the idea that Louis begging Lestat to make Claudia a vampire was the single worst thing that ever happened to her, and that her fate was sealed from that moment. I just cannot imagine spending two whole seasons getting to know and love Claudia and thinking, maybe it would have been better and less tragic for her if she had just died in that fire at the age of 14. Because in spite of everything there is never any indication that Claudia doesn't still have an immense will and curiosity and desire to live!
And (possibly controversial opinion) I also can't imagine seeing the flashback in 2.07 of Louis on his knees sobbing and begging Lestat to save Claudia and being like "oh wow Louis is more selfish and horrifying than I realized" instead of recognizing that this is Louis at absolute rock bottom and thoroughly out of his mind

People don't like Snape because he's the most realistic person in the book. There, I said it.
Specifically, people who don't like Snape and think he deserved his bullying and claim that he's a completely evil man.
They don't like the fact that their worst behaviour is mirrored at them. That this is actually how they would be if they went through this sort of bullshit.
Humans aren't as good as we think we are. We all think we'd be the sassy, funny, ultimately good Harry Potter. We think 'Oh, I'd never be like Snape, I'm better than that'.
But truly? Humans can be serious assholes.
Hurt people hurt people. Even without trying.
Snape's not evil. He's a broken human, and if you don't understand that, then you probably don't understand humans

there is a difference between being born to a throne, maliciously vying for a throne, stealing a throne, and having a throne thrust upon you when you are already in the midst of an identity crisis. And I fear Loki's place in the line of succession has people unable to differentiate between any of these

I don't know how people can say they think Luis is super dirty/smelly/whatever. I'm being sarcastic, obviously it's the racism but. Leon is clearly the dirtiest stinkiest motherfucker in the game. This guy has dirt and grime in every crevice. He swam through literal poo water, several times. Leon has enough blood all over his body for a transfusion. He was sweating buckets the moment he arrived in his fancy leather jacket and he didn't stop sweating once. He ate fish and snakes raw and didn't even drink water after. Meanwhile Luis's hair is soft and shampooed to hell. His beard is perfectly trimmed and even. His hands are always clean. There's a sharp scent of spearmint beneath the tabacco in his breath. I know because I made out with him
