The HSA, HRA and FSA – which is right for you?
Navigating the differences between Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), Health Reimbursement Accounts (HRAs), and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) can be challenging, but each offers unique ta x advantages for managing healthcare costs. HSAs are individually owned and must be paired with high-deductible health plans, allowing tax-free growth and rollover of unused funds. HRAs are employer-funded and reimburse employees for qualifying medical expenses, while FSAs let employees set aside pre-tax money for healthcare expenses but may have a "use it or lose it" policy.

How to Rollover Your Health Savings Account
Health savings accounts (HSAs) are powerful financial tools that make planning for future medical expenses much easier. With personal and employer HSA contributions, this account can grow substantially throughout your life. The result is a sizeable nest egg with several tax advantages.
The great thing about an HSA is that it sticks with you. Unlike a flexible spending account (FSA), it's not tied to your employer. Therefore, you can roll over your HSA from one provider to the next. But how do you do it?
HSA Rollover Basics
To roll over an HSA is to move your funds between providers. There are many reasons to consider doing this.
One of the most common is to take advantage of lower expense ratios and maintenance fees. Expense ratios refer to the operating costs paid to invest your contributions. A higher expense ratio means you pay more fees for your HSA to grow. These fees are outside of additional custodial fees you might pay.
Many people also roll over their HSA to consolidate several accounts into one to simplify management. Whatever the case, you can do a rollover once every 12 months. However, there are some rules to follow.
How to Rollover Your HSA
Rolling over an HSA requires communicating with your new and existing HSA.
Contact your existing HSA and request a check or direct deposit of the funds in your HSA. After this request, your old provider will send you a lump sum including all your contributions, your employer HSA contributions and any growth up to that point. Then, you must set up another HSA with a new provider.
Here's something important to remember: You only have 60 days to deposit the funds you receive from your old HSA provider into your new HSA. If you go beyond the 60-day limit, you will face steep penalties. The IRS will levy income tax on the amount you roll over and charge a 20 percent penalty!
Fortunately, those penalties don't apply if you roll over the money within 60 days.
Another option is to request a trustee-to-trustee transfer. Many HSA providers allow you to do that online. With a trustee-to-trustee transfer, you don't have to worry about receiving a deposit or check.

Hi, I was wondering if I could get some input. I work at a pretty large company- mostly construction related stuff, but me and my friends work on the accounting side. The higher ups have been laying off a lot of the white collar workers and offering them a deal to remain employed, but in positions where their skills are considered more valuable. Issue is, I haven't been able to get in touch with my friend since he took the offer. In fact, whenever I text him, I just get selfies of a guy I've never seen before on a construction site and lewd comments. I don't know what's going on and I'm worried. I just got a notice that my contract is up, but they have a deal for me. I don't know if I should take it- something seems really off.
I don't know about you, but I think the offer is fair. Two years job guarantee. Accident, health and pension insurance. The costs of retraining and the associated loss of working hours are reimbursed in full. And you are to be deployed together with your friend. Okay, there is a little less salary. But you are assured that the work will be much less mentally demanding. You said yourself that you are constantly on the verge of burnout. This might be a great opportunity! And you even get the rest of the day off! Loss, do it!
You sign. The boss from HR shakes your hand and says that you won't regret it. Your first assignment will be external, please be at the company's depot at 06:00 tomorrow morning. What the hell? Well, you've been given a day's vacation for that. And what are you going to do with it? Down in front of the company you stand in the sun. Beside you the box with your private things. You search in your jacket pocket for cigarettes. But you've already given up smoking in college. Fuck, man! You need a smoke now. And actually a beer, too. Dude, you're really out of it. Smokes are always in your sleeve pocket of your work jacket. The Zippo is in your pants pocket. Actually, you should quit smoking, you think to yourself. Or at least roll your own cigarettes. That shit is really too expensive. You grab your duffel bag and look for a bar. The one up ahead looks good. Sure, pretty empty at this time. But a couple of guys in Hi Viz clothes are standing in front of screens, watching sports news and drinking a beer. Probably on breakfast break. You order a beer, open the bottle with your lighter, empty it in one go and order the next one. Hey, your break is short, you have to use it. Shit, why break, today is your day off. Your buddy asks if you can stop by the construction site. If you want to finish today, they need every hand. Shit, in this company you never get off work. But if you're supposed to go to the new construction site tomorrow, you have to finish today, that's clear. So what? You're wearing the clothes anyway. And you've already got your stuff for tomorrow. Then let's go for a night shift!
Tumblr media
By the time the bus comes to take you to the next construction site, you've been sleeping on the floor of the depot for maybe two hours. Anyway, the extra shift brought good money. And on the bus, you two can crash for another round. It's a tough job. But you don't know any different!

Open call for top surgery support!!
Hi friends! I am in need of help with my upcoming top surgery in London on October 1st 2024. If you might be able to help me out, please please drop me a message on discord, ideally, as I'm more likely to see it there! My username is definitivelywicked, but if that doesn't work for you, you can message me here or on any of my other socials!! Details below!!
I am getting a double mastectomy and need to be at the hospital in London at 7am and then stay in the area for a couple of days as I need to return to the hospital a few days later to have the surgical drains removed.
I am required to have somebody to take me home/to accommodation after the surgery and to stay with me for at least 24 hours. Ideally I need somebody to take me to the surgery and then stay with me and take me home a few days later. I am based in Shropshire at the moment.
I cannot drive and public transport is not a viable option. I do not have family support, I don't have friends in the UK, and both my partners live in the US so they are not able to help physically. I am currently living in supported housing and have asked the charity that I am under the care of but they are not able to help me. I have also asked somebody from a group I go to but she is not able to help and I don't know the others in the group well enough to feel comfortable approaching them. I have reached out to my local LGBT+ group but they are not active online, I haven't heard back from them, and I don't have high hopes for getting anything back from them. I have also reached out to Switchboard (an LGBT+ helpline) who had no further suggestions, and put out an appeal on both my personal and art IG accounts but nobody was able to help. I have looked into grants but there is nothing available at the moment.
I am currently on Universal Credit as I am unable to work for health reasons, I owe my housing charity money, am 2k in overdraft (university financially destoryed me), have no savings (thank you uni), and cannot take out a loan as I won't be able to pay it back. If anyone is able to help, I am not in a position to reimburse immediately but can do so in installments when I get my next UC payments.
I don't know what to do. I have exhausted all of my options. I really don't want to have to postpone the surgery because I've been waiting for this for years now and this will be life saving care.
If anyone can help me, please please message me, I will be so grateful. If you can't help physically but might be able to contribute something to help with the costs associated with the surgery, I have lots of available traditional art (you can see it all in the 'available' highlights on my Instagram (@/vesselsart)), and I have prints listed on my ko-fi store, as well as the option to just leave me a tip. Any and all tips get a thank you sketch and my eternal gratitude in return.

Thinking about how people think retail work is "easy", the idea that "unskilled labor is a myth", and some discussion/discourse I've seen about workers preferring to do sex work over retail. And I think many people just don't realize that retail work has a physical danger to it – and no, not just from other people.
Exactly what people do in their jobs will vary depending on the business, but as for me? I work with sharp metal and plastic at high speeds. Heavy objects could be dropped directly onto my head if I'm not extremely careful, and even then, all it takes is a slip of the hand. Due to our refrigerators and freezers, I am jumping between temperatures several hundred times a day, which leaves my body suffering from the whiplash. I am thankful to have a manager that enforces breaks, but my job takes a toll on me even on the mildest of work days. I could get seriously hurt, and a lot is already being asked of me.
"Retail/fast food/etc. is unskilled labor –" okay but I am not selling expert labor to you, I am selling my well-being. I am being paid to do not just the things you don't or can't do, but to damage and risk my body and overall health in these specific ways so that your day might be a little better.
And honestly, I'd be fine with that, if I got some recognition for it (in both pay and general attitude). I am fine with a little risk and damage so long as it's for proper compensation – I don't view this work as demeaning by nature, and I take pride in my skill at doing it. It's just that I wished others around me cared more about this side of my job.
On a similar note, restaurant/fast food/etc. workers are not just being paid to make and bring out your food. They are being paid to risk oil burns, regular burns, scaldings, being stabbed or sliced, their hands being mangled by equipment, their fingers being crushed by machinery, any number of diseases that food can carry before it's prepared, and death if something goes wrong with the gas. All for your convenience.
It doesn't matter if it's unskilled, or if "anyone can do it". A good salary is one that takes into account what one is sacrificing and risking to complete this job. It takes into account the damage to one's body and the everyday dangers they are in. Salary is, as people know, payment for energy and time, but it is also a reimbursement for the expense of putting oneself in harm's way, and a person's salary should reflect that.
This isn't meant to shame customers. I think it'd be a little silly to shame people for taking on my services when I am well aware of the risks in them (although I acknowledge that gets complicated when people have to take these kinds of jobs regardless of the risks, due to desperately needing money). It's more of a perspective I don't see others talk about often. Even before factoring in shitty bosses, crappy work environments, and the like, these sorts of jobs have dangers and cause damages that should be acknowledged. And people should be properly compensated for taking them on.

I need your help...
If you don't know me, hello, I'm Accalia, I go by Tali Sidekick online on Youtube, Instagram, and on the rarest of occasions Twitch. I'm a 29 year old transgender woman from Canada, who came out and began socially and medically transitioning in 2021. I stream largely on Youtube and on the rare occasion I make videos (it's been over a year since I last did that).
I could use your help affording my legal name change. I've been trying to afford it myself but I'm unable to for reasons I'll get into below. The link is in my blog description, but I'll post it here:
Recently, while walking home from work (I don't make enough to afford public transit or my own vehicle or a bicycle) I got attacked by a middle-aged man in a dimly lit residential neighbourhood. I got away, and thankfully I didn't give him enough time to do more than grab me by the arm. However, I had to file a police report, which gave me two options: use my legal name which at current is my deadname (ie. a name I no longer wish to use) which would be distressing to say the least, or submit it anonymously. I chose the latter which unfortunately does little besides let the public know that someone dangerous with a vague description is in their area. I wish I could have put my name on that report but using my legal name as it stands now is ... I can't.
To add to this, I was saving up, but unfortunately the student loans I owe decided to charge me during an appeal process (they weren't supposed to) and when the charge partially bounced they denied my appeal (which isn't supposed to happen under the contract agreement I signed) because of "outstanding payments". The appeal process also only looked at my gross income for one month, specifically the month I got paid 3 times in (it happens only once a year) and decided to combine all three payments into an equal 2 and evaluated my paycheck at around 25/hr when I only make 16/hr and has thus denied me reduced loans payment (I'm working on this but it's adding to my stress). So at current, the $300 I had extra got eaten by the National Student Loans Services Centre (NSLSC) again and from previous experience even though I should be reimbursed once this is cleared up, I won't be.
I would have also had more (remember that extra third paycheck?) but my health insurance stopped covering me because despite being signed up to a provincial pharmacy program they decided I wasn't, and forced me to buy my hormones and ADHD meds out of pocket. They only -just- reinstated coverage, but getting reimbursed will take over a month possibly 2.
As such, I have exactly $48 in savings and $7 in my basic checking account.
I want to get my name changed, I've been trying for over 2 years, and it's been impossible. Every time I have the money to spare, the NSLSC eats it and doesn't give it back, some medical thing comes up, or some unforseen cost rears its head and consumes my meager savings. The cost averages out to about $450 because it requires Finger Printing for a background check, Notary Fees, Processing Fees, and Reprinting Fees for my Birth Certificate, Drivers License, and Marriage License.
And if the $450 goal is exceeded, any excess getsput towards affording the $6000 surgery cost of getting SRS/GRS (Sex Reassignment Surgery/Gender Reassignment Surgery). I have until December next year before my government will no longer cover the cost of the surgery supposedly.
If I can get help here, I really want all my legal doccuments to read "Llorelei Accalia [Lastname]". I'm so tired of having to explain to people that I'm transgender because the name, face, and (somehow) voice don't match.
Currently at:
$50/$450

The WoP EU/UK merge
Merging one WoX server into another within the same fandom and language might sound simple enough, but it's really not. Especially not two sites that are essentially two different versions of the same fictional universe. There's two of almost everything, but after the merge there will only be room for one. So how do you decide which professor of Muggle Studies will remain the professor of Muggle Studies, and which one will be fired? For the one that is fired, can they still claim to have worked as a professor of Muggle Studies up until that point, although the still hired professor will claim the same thing?
There are a thousand questions and only so many answers, which leaves people feeling confused and worried about the future.
Uncertainty can do a lot of harm, but it's harm that can be prevented by thorough planning, transparency and taking care to make the users feel seen and heard in the process.
_ _ _
The answers so far are as follows:
§ The merge will, if everything goes to plan, take place on 15-16th June.
§ EU staff members keep their positions, UK staff members lose their jobs in the transfer. The exception is the MoM and HM positions, where the UK site leaders will take over on EU and the current EU site leaders will step down.
§ UK accounts are transferred with their current stats (age, year, house, XP/level) and PT/BS, but will lose their inventory and homework history. Inventory will be reimbursed with IG currency. Pets are separate from inventory and will transfer automatically. Special items can be "transferred" on request (or more likely be manually replaced by MoM/HM)
§ Topics and wallposts from UK will be transferred to EU.
§ All lessons, library books and notice board history from UK will be lost in the transfer.
_ _ _
And then there are the questions yet to be answered...
... and a lack of answers is not a good look. In a community with a significant percentage of neurodivergents and/or mental health issues, a lack of answers causes uncertainty, stress and worry. This in turn causes frustration, which combined with all the losses makes for users who feel dismissed and unvalued. For those who have previously had negative experiences with WoX, this might be the thing that makes them quit for good. A lot of people will choose to just leave rather than figure out how to make things work on EU, that's almost certain.
This merge will inevitably cause upset. UK staff lose their jobs, EU staff lose their site leaders, UK users will lose their community and it's a stressful situation for everyone involved. A lot of that can't be helped, it just has to be done. All we can do is try to soften the blows and minimise the damage where we can by providing support, answers and information.

What's actually in the Ukraine bill-a breakdown
Military Assistance
Military Personnel(no, this does not mean troops are being deployed) to respond to the situation in Ukraine and for related expenses: $238,190,000, subdivided into
Army: $207,158,000
Marine Corps:$3,538,000
Air Force: $23, 302,000
Space Force: $4,192,000
This is literally what it sounds like: paying for people to do things, as opposed to the next item...
Operations and Maintenance: $34,243,729,000, subdivided into
Army:$4,877,581,000
Navy:$976,405,000
Marine Corps$69(nice),045,000
Air Force: $371,475,000
Space Force:$8,443,000
Defense-wide(bolded for being important): $27,930,780,000. Of this, $13,772,460,000 is directly for aid to Ukraine, and $13, 414,432,000 is for replacement and reimbursement for both physical aid and service aid(ie training) given to Ukraine. In other words, only the first half is actually going to Ukraine(mostly in the form of physical things like vehicles, guns, ammo and equipment and not just money) while the second half never leaves America.
Procurement:$13,276,910,000, subdivided into
Missile Procurement, Army:$2,742,757,000
Ammunition Procurement, Army:$5,612,900,000,
Other Procurement, Army: $308,991,000
Weapons Procurement, Navy:$706,976,000
Other Procurement, Navy:$26,000,000
Marine Corps:$212,443,000,
Missile Procurement, Air Force:$366,001,000
Other Procurement, Air Force:$3,284,072,000
Defense-wide:$46,780,000,
Research Programs
Research and Development:$633,387,000, subdivided into
Army:$18,594,000
Navy:$13,825,000
Air Force:$406,834,000
Defense-wide:$194,125,000
Other Military Aid
Office of the Inspector General(this is funds for oversight): $8,00,000.
Related Agencies
Intelligence Community Management Account:$2,00,000
Energy Programs
Science for the production of medical, stable, and radioactive isotopes(no idea why this is here): $98,000,000
Atomic Energy Defense Activities
Defense Nuclear Nonproliferation for etc etc:$143,915,000
Federal Salaries and Expenses for etc etc: $5,540,000
Health and Human Services
Refugee and Entrant Assistance: $481,000,000. This provision specifically allows the relevant agencies to use this money for grants or contracts with nonprofits, which imo means it's likely that most of this will go towards aiding Ukrainian refugees in Europe, and thus that this isn't just money for moving Ukrainians to America.
Department of State
Diplomatic Programs to respond to the situation in Ukraine and countries affected by said situation: $60,000,000
United States Agency for International Development
USAID operating expenses appropriated to the President for response to etc etc: $39,000,000
USAID Office of Inspector General: $10,000,000
Bilateral Economic Assistance
Transition Initiatives(meaning transition to democracy): $25,000,000
Economic Support Fund(for Ukraine's government): $7,899,000,000. A provision states that none of this money may be used for pensions(as an anti-corruption measure) and that at least $50,000,000 of this amount must be used to respond to food insecurity caused by the war.
Assistance for Europe, Eurasia, and Central Asia(for Ukraine's private sector):$1,575,000,000
International Security Assistance
International Narcotics Control and Law Enforcement(for Ukraine and other countries affected by the invasion):$300,000,000
Nonproliferation, Antiterrorism, Demining and Related Programs(for Ukraine and other countries affected by the invasion): $100,000,000
Foreign Military Financing Program(for Ukraine and other countries affected by the invasion): $1,600,000,000
Some of the more impactful general provisions of the act:
The transfer of long-range ATACMS to Ukraine was required by the act, and that appears to have already happened. The President was given the option to not do so if he determined it would be detrimental to America's national security interests, but it appears he didn't.
The Secretary of State was directed to insure as much in-person monitoring as possible for funds appropriated for Economic Support, Assistance for Europe, Eurasia and Central Asia, International Narcotics Control and Law Enforcement, and Nonproliferation, Anti-terrorism, Demining and Related Programs
The amount of money spent out of the total amounts budgeted for Economic Support and Assistance for etc etc may not exceed half the total amount of funds given by all donors to Ukraine. This basically means that, in terms of economic assistance, Europe has to do at least as much spending as we do.
The two headings for economic assistance mentioned above(totaling to $9,474,000,000) are loans that the President may only forgive in the following circumstances: up to 50% of the debts incurred by these loans may be cancelled by the President at any time after November 15th, 2024, while the remaining 50% may be cancelled at any time after January 1st, 2026. Both cancellations would be subject to Congressional approval.

Hi! Your last post really got me curious about the builders of the pyramids. Do you have any readings or sources to learn more about who built them? If you don't mind that is!
Sure thing! If you either Google or search my blog for "Giza workmen's village", you should get a ton of info on the subject, including an account by Zahi Hawass, who was in charge of the excavations there. There should also be an addition to Controversial Truths on it in the FAQ. Also Google "Merer's diary" to get an account of the journal of an official who worked on the pyramids. @booksclayandcatherine actually worked on the excavations herself, so if you ask her nicely she might be willing to talk a bit about how that was.
Long story short: the pyramids were built by workmen who were conscripted largely from, but not limited to, the peasant class. Of course also scribes, overseers, architects and other officials would be working on these builds. They were reimbursed in bread, beer and grain, like everyone in Egypt eligible for wages because it was a non-monetary market economy, and received on-site housing, food, and health care. It would have still been hard work of course, but no bullwhips ever came into it (because ancient Egypt didn't know bullwhips).

*radio announcer voice* last week we left sisyphus complaining about the bureaucratic nature of his dental insurance plan, having, along the way, discovered that he has a health savings account card, as we watched our protagonist make a note on his to do list about trying to find it, when, if you recall, it dropped into his hands from a pile of unopened mail, a place he would have never thought to look, while checking off another item on the list, shred mail. unfortunately, the card was not activated, and likely several months too old to activate, despite the balance on the card being approximately the same as the cost of the dental work now looming on this week's coming tuesday. *hammond organ* will he be able to get a receipt and submit a claim to apply for reimbursement? or, will he be able to use the card despite having never set a personal identification number? can't he just take it to one of the embossing machine operators at the credit card factory where he works to have them fix it? will the rock roll down the hill again? tune in next week
